शिवा भार्या त्वङ्गिरसः शीलरूपगुणान्विता। तस्याः सा प्रथमं रूपं कृत्वा देवी जनाधिप ॥ जगाम पावकाभ्याशं तं चोवाच वराङ्गना ॥०३-२१४-१॥
śivā bhāryā tvaṅg irasaḥ śīla-rūpa-guṇānvitā। tasyāḥ sā prathamaṃ rūpaṃ kṛtvā devī janādhipa ॥ jagāma pāvakābhyāśaṃ taṃ covāca varāṅganā ॥03-214-1॥

मामग्ने कामसन्तप्तां त्वं कामयितुमर्हसि। करिष्यसि न चेदेवं मृतां मामुपधारय ॥०३-२१४-२॥
mām agne kāmasantaptāṃ tvaṃ kāmayitum arhasi। kariṣyasi na ced evaṃ mṛtāṃ mām upadhāraya॥03-214-2॥

(Me, O Agni, tormented by desire, you are worthy to desire; you will do not if thus, dead me bear.)
O Agni, you should desire me who am tormented by desire; if you do not do so, then bear me away as dead. (03-214-2)
अहमङ्गिरसो भार्या शिवा नाम हुताशन। सखीभिः सहिता प्राप्ता मन्त्रयित्वा विनिश्चयम् ॥०३-२१४-३॥

O Fire, I am Śivā, the wife of Aṅgiras by name, who, together with friends, after consultation, have arrived at a decision. (03-214-3)
अग्निरुवाच॥

कथं मां त्वं विजानीषे कामार्तमितराः कथम्। यास्त्वया कीर्तिताः सर्वाः सप्तर्षीणां प्रियाः स्त्रियः ॥०३-२१४-४॥
kathaṁ māṁ tvaṁ vijānīṣe kāmārtamitarāḥ katham। yāstvayā kīrtitāḥ sarvāḥ saptarṣīṇāṁ priyāḥ striyaḥ ॥03-214-4॥
[कथं (kathaṁ) - how; मां (māṁ) - me; त्वं (tvaṁ) - you; विजानीषे (vijānīṣe) - know (2nd person, present); कामार्तम् (kāmārtam) - afflicted by desire; इतराः (itarāḥ) - others; कथम् (katham) - how; याः (yāḥ) - who; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; कीर्तिताः (kīrtitāḥ) - mentioned; सर्वाः (sarvāḥ) - all; सप्तर्षीणां (saptarṣīṇāṁ) - of the seven sages; प्रियाः (priyāḥ) - beloved; स्त्रियः (striyaḥ) - women;]
(How me you know afflicted by desire; others how; who by you mentioned all of the seven sages beloved women.)
How do you consider me, who am afflicted by desire? How about the others? All those women, beloved of the seven sages, whom you have mentioned.

अस्माकं त्वं प्रियो नित्यं बिभीमस्तु वयं तव। त्वच्चित्तमिङ्गितैर्ज्ञात्वा प्रेषितास्मि तवान्तिकम् ॥०३-२१४-५॥
asmākaṃ tvaṃ priyo nityaṃ bibhīmas tu vayaṃ tava। tvac-cittam-iṅgitair jñātvā preṣitāsmi tavāntikam॥03-214-5॥
[अस्माकं (asmākaṃ) - of us; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; प्रियः (priyaḥ) - dear; नित्यम् (nityam) - always; बिभीमः (bibhīmaḥ) - we fear; तु (tu) - but; वयम् (vayam) - we; तव (tava) - of you; त्वच्चित्तम् (tvac-cittam) - your mind; इङ्गितैः (iṅgitaiḥ) - by the gestures; ज्ञात्वा (jñātvā) - having known; प्रेषितास्मि (preṣitāsmi) - I am sent; तव (tava) - to you; अन्तिकम् (antikam) - near;]
(Of us you (are) dear always; but we fear you. Your mind, by (its) gestures, having known, I am sent near to you.)

मैथुनायेह सम्प्राप्ता कामं प्राप्तं द्रुतं चर। मातरो मां प्रतीक्षन्ते गमिष्यामि हुताशन ॥०३-२१४-६॥
maithunāyeha samprāptā kāmaṁ prāptaṁ drutaṁ cara। mātaro māṁ pratīkṣante gamiṣyāmi hutāśana ॥03-214-6॥
[मैथुनाय (maithunāya) - for union; इह (iha) - here; सम्प्राप्ता (samprāptā) - arrived; कामं (kāmaṁ) - desire; प्राप्तं (prāptaṁ) - obtained; द्रुतं (drutaṁ) - quickly; चर (cara) - act; मातरः (mātaraḥ) - mothers; माम् (mām) - me; प्रतीक्षन्ते (pratīkṣante) - are waiting; गमिष्यामि (gamiṣyāmi) - I shall go; हुताशन (hutāśana) - O Agni (Fire);]
(For union here (I) arrived, desire obtained, quickly act. Mothers me are waiting, I shall go, O Agni.)
I have come here for union, my desire is fulfilled, act quickly. My mothers are waiting for me; I shall go, O Agni. (03-214-6)

ततोऽग्निरुपयेमे तां शिवां प्रीतिमुदायुतः। प्रीत्या देवी च संयुक्ता शुक्रं जग्राह पाणिना ॥०३-२१४-७॥
tato'gnirupayeme tāṃ śivāṃ prītimudāyutaḥ। prītyā devī ca saṃyuktā śukraṃ jagrāha pāṇinā॥03-214-7॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; अग्निः (agniḥ) - Agni; उपयेमे (upayeme) - approached; ताम् (tām) - her; शिवाम् (śivām) - auspicious; प्रीतिम् (prītim) - joy; उदायुतः (udāyutaḥ) - filled with gladness; प्रीत्या (prītyā) - with affection; देवी (devī) - the goddess; च (ca) - and; संयुक्ता (saṃyuktā) - united; शुक्रम् (śukram) - semen; जग्राह (jagrāha) - received; पाणिना (pāṇinā) - with (her) hand;]
(Then Agni approached her, the auspicious one, filled with gladness and joy. With affection, the Goddess, being united, received the semen with her hand.)

अचिन्तयन्ममेदं ये रूपं द्रक्ष्यन्ति कानने। ते ब्राह्मणीनामनृतं दोषं वक्ष्यन्ति पावके ॥०३-२१४-८॥
acintayan mamedam ye rūpaṃ drakṣyanti kānane। te brāhmaṇīnām anṛtaṃ doṣaṃ vakṣyanti pāvake ॥03-214-8॥
[अचिन्तयन् (acintayan) - reflecting; considering; मम (mama) - my; इदं (idaṃ) - this; ये (ye) - who; रूपं (rūpaṃ) - form; द्रक्ष्यन्ति (drakṣyanti) - will see; कानने (kānane) - in the forest; ते (te) - they; ब्राह्मणीनाम् (brāhmaṇīnām) - of the wives of brāhmaṇas; अनृतं (anṛtam) - falsehood; दोषं (doṣaṃ) - fault; वक्ष्यन्ति (vakṣyanti) - will speak; पावके (pāvake) - at the (sacred) fire;]
(Reflecting, my this form who will see in the forest, they of the wives of brāhmaṇas falsehood fault will speak at the fire.)
Reflecting, those who see this form of mine in the forest will declare the false charge against the wives of brāhmaṇas at the (sacred) fire. (03-214-8)
तस्मादेतद्रक्ष्यमाणा गरुडी सम्भवाम्यहम्। वनान्निर्गमनं चैव सुखं मम भविष्यति ॥०३-२१४-९॥
tasmādetadrakṣyamāṇā garuḍī sambhavāmyaham। vanānnirgamanaṃ caiva sukhaṃ mama bhaviṣyati॥03-214-9॥
[तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; एतत् (etat) - this; रक्ष्यमाणा (rakṣyamāṇā) - protecting; गरुडी (garuḍī) - Garudi (the female of Garuda, or one belonging to the Garuda line); सम्भवामि (sambhavāmi) - I shall become; अहम् (aham) - I; वनात् (vanāt) - from the forest; निर्गमनम् (nirgamanam) - the act of going out; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; सुखम् (sukham) - happiness; मम (mama) - for me; भविष्यति (bhaviṣyati) - will be;]
(Therefore, protecting this, as a Garudi, I shall become; from the forest, going out also indeed, happiness for me will be.)
Therefore, as a Garudi protecting this, I will make myself manifest; and from the forest, going out will indeed be happiness for me. (03-214-9)
सुपर्णी सा तदा भूत्वा निर्जगाम महावनात्। अपश्यत्पर्वतं श्वेतं शरस्तम्बैः सुसंवृतम् ॥०३-२१४-१०॥
suparṇī sā tadā bhūtvā nirjagāma mahāvanāt। apaśyat parvataṃ śvetaṃ śarastambhaiḥ susaṃvṛtam ॥03-214-10॥
[सुपर्णी (suparṇī) - the winged one (female); सा (sā) - she; तदा (tadā) - then; भूत्वा (bhūtvā) - having become; निर्जगाम (nirjagāma) - departed; महावनात् (mahāvanāt) - from the great forest; अपश्यत् (apaśyat) - she saw; पर्वतं (parvataṃ) - a mountain; श्वेतं (śvetaṃ) - white; शरस्तम्बैः (śarastambhaiḥ) - with arrow-pillars; सुसंवृतम् (susaṃvṛtam) - well-covered;]
(The winged one, she, then, having become, departed from the great forest. She saw a white mountain well-covered with arrow-pillars.)

दृष्टीविषैः सप्तशीर्षैर्गुप्तं भोगिभिरद्भुतैः। रक्षोभिश्च पिशाचैश्च रौद्रैर्भूतगणैस्तथा ॥ राक्षसीभिश्च सम्पूर्णमनेकैश्च मृगद्विजैः ॥०३-२१४-११॥
dṛṣṭiviṣaiḥ saptaśīrṣairguptaṃ bhogibhiradbhutaiḥ। rakṣobhiśca piśācaiśca raudrairbhūtaganaistathā॥ rākṣasībhiśca sampūrṇamanekaiśca mṛgadvijaiḥ॥03-214-11॥
[दृष्टीविषैः (dṛṣṭi-viṣaiḥ) - with eyesight (dṛṣṭi) and poison (viṣa); सप्तशीर्षैः (sapta-śīrṣaiḥ) - with seven heads; गुप्तं (guptam) - protected; भोगिभिः (bhogibhiḥ) - by serpents; अद्भुतैः (adbhutaiḥ) - marvelous; रक्षोभिः (rakṣobhiḥ) - by rākṣasas; च (ca) - and; पिशाचैः (piśācaiḥ) - by piśācas; च (ca) - and; रौद्रैः (raudraiḥ) - by fierce ones; भूतगणैः (bhūta-gaṇaiḥ) - by hosts of spirits; तथा (tathā) - as well; राक्षसीभिः (rākṣasībhiḥ) - by rākṣasīs; च (ca) - and; सम्पूर्णम् (sampūrṇam) - completely filled; अनेकैः (anekaiḥ) - by many; च (ca) - and; मृगद्विजैः (mṛga-dvijaiḥ) - by beasts and birds;]
(Protected by serpents marvelous, with eyesight and poison, with seven heads, and by rākṣasas and piśācas, as well by fierce hosts of spirits; and by rākṣasīs, completely filled by many beasts and birds.)

सा तत्र सहसा गत्वा शैलपृष्ठं सुदुर्गमम्। प्राक्षिपत्काञ्चने कुण्डे शुक्रं सा त्वरिता सती ॥०३-२१४-१२॥
sā tatra sahasā gatvā śailapṛṣṭhaṃ sudurgamam। prākṣipat kāñcane kuṇḍe śukraṃ sā tvaritā satī ॥03-214-12॥
[सा (sā) - she; तत्र (tatra) - there; सहसा (sahasā) - suddenly; गत्वा (gatvā) - having gone; शैलपृष्ठं (śailapṛṣṭham) - mountain top; सुदुर्गमम् (sudurgamam) - very difficult (to access); प्राक्षिपत् (prākṣipat) - she cast; काञ्चने (kāñcane) - golden; कुण्डे (kuṇḍe) - vessel; शुक्रं (śukram) - semen; सा (sā) - she; त्वरिता (tvaritā) - hurried; सती (satī) - chaste;]
(She there suddenly having gone to the mountain top very difficult (to access), she cast the semen in a golden vessel, she hurried, chaste.)
She, hurried and chaste, suddenly went there to the mountain top which was very difficult to access, and cast the semen into a golden vessel. (03-214-12)
शिष्टानामपि सा देवी सप्तर्षीणां महात्मनाम्। पत्नीसरूपतां कृत्वा कामयामास पावकम् ॥०३-२१४-१३॥
śiṣṭānām api sā devī saptarṣīṇāṃ mahātmanām। patnīsarūpatāṃ kṛtvā kāmayāmāsa pāvakam ॥03-214-13॥
[शिष्टानाम् (śiṣṭānām) - of the virtuous; of the worthy; अपि (api) - even; also; सा (sā) - she; देवी (devī) - goddess; revered lady; सप्तर्षीणाम् (saptarṣīṇām) - of the seven sages; महात्मनाम् (mahātmanām) - of the great-souled; पत्नीसरूपताम् (patnīsarūpatām) - state of likeness to the wives; form of the spouse; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having assumed; having made; कामयामास (kāmayāmāsa) - desired; wished for; पावकम् (pāvakam) - Agni; fire;]
(Of the virtuous even, she the goddess of the seven sages, of the great-souled, having assumed the form of their wives, desired Agni.)

दिव्यरूपमरुन्धत्याः कर्तुं न शकितं तया। तस्यास्तपःप्रभावेण भर्तृशुश्रूषणेन च ॥०३-२१४-१४॥
divyarūpam arundhatyāḥ kartuṁ na śakitaṁ tayā। tasyās tapaḥ-prabhāveṇa bhartṛ-śuśrūṣaṇena ca ॥03-214-14॥
[दिव्यरूपम् (divyarūpam) - divine form; अरुन्धत्याः (arundhatyāḥ) - of Arundhati; कर्तुं (kartuṁ) - to accomplish; न (na) - not; शकितं (śakitaṁ) - possible; तया (tayā) - by her; तस्याः (tasyāḥ) - her; तपःप्रभावेण (tapaḥ-prabhāveṇa) - by the power of austerity; भर्तृशुश्रूषणेन (bhartṛ-śuśrūṣaṇena) - by service to husband; च (ca) - and;]
(The divine form of Arundhati to accomplish was not possible by her; by her power of austerity and by service to husband and.)
Even for Arundhati, it was not possible to attain a divine form; it was by the power of her austerity and her service to her husband (that she accomplished it). (03-214-14)
षट्कृत्वस्तत्तु निक्षिप्तमग्ने रेतः कुरूत्तम। तस्मिन्कुण्डे प्रतिपदि कामिन्या स्वाहया तदा ॥०३-२१४-१५॥
ṣaṭkṛtvastattu nikṣiptamagne retaḥ kurūttama। tasminkuṇḍe pratipadi kāminyā svāhayā tadā ॥03-214-15॥
[षट्-कृत्वस् (ṣaṭ-kṛtvas) - six times; तत् (tat) - that; तु (tu) - indeed; निक्षिप्तम् (nikṣiptam) - was placed; अग्ने (agne) - in the fire; रेतः (retaḥ) - semen; कुरूत्तम (kurūttama) - O best of the Kurus; तस्मिन् (tasmin) - in that; कुण्डे (kuṇḍe) - in the (fire)pit; प्रतिपदि (pratipadi) - on each day; कामिन्या (kāminyā) - by the desiring woman; स्वाहया (svāhayā) - with (the mantra) 'svāhā'; तदा (tadā) - then;]
(Six times indeed that semen was placed in the fire, O best of the Kurus. In that firepit, on each day, by the desiring woman, with 'svāhā' then.)
O best of the Kurus, that semen was placed in the fire six times. Then, on each day, in that firepit, the longing woman offered it with the 'svāhā' mantra. (03-214-15)
तत्स्कन्नं तेजसा तत्र सम्भृतं जनयत्सुतम्। ऋषिभिः पूजितं स्कन्नमनयत्स्कन्दतां ततः ॥०३-२१४-१६॥
tatskannaṃ tejasā tatra sambhṛtaṃ janayat-sutam. ṛṣibhiḥ pūjitaṃ skannam-anayat-skandatāṃ tataḥ ॥03-214-16॥
[तत् (tat) - that; स्कन्नं (skannaṃ) - spilled; (that which has flown/fallen down;) तेजसा (tejasā) - by the energy; तत्र (tatra) - there; सम्भृतं (sambhṛtam) - collected; gathered; जनयत् (janayat) - generating; producing; सुतम् (sutam) - son; ऋषिभिः (ṛṣibhiḥ) - by the sages; पूजितं (pūjitam) - honored; स्कन्नम् (skannam) - the spilled (substance;) अनयत् (anayat) - led; took; स्कन्दतां (skandatām) - into the state of Skanda (i.e., becoming Skanda;) ततः (tataḥ) - thereafter;]
(That which was spilled, by the energy, there collected, generating a son. By the sages honored, the spilled (substance), led into the state of Skanda thereafter.)
That which was spilled by the energy was there collected and produced a son. The sages honored it, and the spilled substance was then made to become Skanda. (03-214-16)
षट्शिरा द्विगुणश्रोत्रो द्वादशाक्षिभुजक्रमः। एकग्रीवस्त्वेककायः कुमारः समपद्यत ॥०३-२१४-१७॥
ṣaṭśirā dviguṇaśrotro dvādaśākṣibhujakramaḥ। ekagrīvastvekakāyaḥ kumāraḥ samapadyata ॥03-214-17॥
[षट्शिरा (ṣaṭ-śirā) - six-headed; द्विगुणश्रोत्रो (dviguṇa-śrotraḥ) - having double ears; द्वादशाक्षि (dvādaśa-akṣi) - twelve-eyed; भुजक्रमः (bhuja-kramaḥ) - with a series of arms; एकग्रीवः (eka-grīvaḥ) - one-necked; त्व् (tu) - however; एककायः (eka-kāyaḥ) - with one body; कुमारः (kumāraḥ) - the boy; समपद्यत (samapadyata) - became;]

द्वितीयायामभिव्यक्तस्तृतीयायां शिशुर्बभौ। अङ्गप्रत्यङ्गसम्भूतश्चतुर्थ्यामभवद्गुहः ॥०३-२१४-१८॥
dvitīyāyām abhivyaktaḥ tṛtīyāyāṃ śiśuḥ babhau। aṅga-pratyaṅga-sambhūtaḥ caturthyām abhavad Guhaḥ॥03-214-18॥

(On the second (day), manifested. On the third (day), the child was radiant. Whose limbs and sub-limbs were formed, on the fourth (day), Guha became.)
Guha was manifested on the second day; on the third day, the child became radiant; with his limbs and sub-limbs formed, on the fourth day, Guha came into being. (03-214-18)
लोहिताभ्रेण महता संवृतः सह विद्युता। लोहिताभ्रे सुमहति भाति सूर्य इवोदितः ॥०३-२१४-१९॥
lohitābhreṇa mahatā saṁvṛtaḥ saha vidyutā। lohitābhre sumahati bhāti sūrya ivoditaḥ ॥03-214-19॥

गृहीतं तु धनुस्तेन विपुलं लोमहर्षणम्। न्यस्तं यत्त्रिपुरघ्नेन सुरारिविनिकृन्तनम् ॥०३-२१४-२०॥
gṛhītaṃ tu dhanus tena vipulaṃ lomaharṣaṇam। nyastaṃ yat tripuraghnena surāri-vinikṛntanam ॥03-214-20॥
[गृहीतम् (gṛhītam) - taken; तु (tu) - however; धनुः (dhanus) - bow; तेन (tena) - by him; विपुलम् (vipulam) - great; लोमहर्षणम् (lomaharṣaṇam) - hair-raising; न्यस्तम् (nyastam) - laid down; यत् (yat) - which; त्रिपुरघ्नेन (tripuraghnena) - by the destroyer of Tripura; सुरारिविनिकृन्तनम् (surāri-vinikṛntanam) - that which cuts down the enemies of the gods;]
(The bow, however, great and hair-raising, taken by him, which was laid down by the destroyer of Tripura, which cuts down the enemies of the gods.)
The very great and fearsome bow, once wielded and then laid down by the destroyer of Tripura, who vanquishes the enemies of the gods, was taken by him. (03-214-20)
तद्गृहीत्वा धनुःश्रेष्ठं ननाद बलवांस्तदा। संमोहयन्निवेमान्स त्रीँल्लोकान्सचराचरान् ॥०३-२१४-२१॥
tad-gṛhītvā dhanuḥ-śreṣṭhaṃ nanāda balavāṃs tadā। saṃmohayann iva imān trīn lokān sa-carācarān॥03-214-21॥

(That having taken the excellent bow, the powerful one then roared, bewildering as if these three worlds with all moving and unmoving beings.)

तस्य तं निनदं श्रुत्वा महामेघौघनिस्वनम्। उत्पेततुर्महानागौ चित्रश्चैरावतश्च ह ॥०३-२१४-२२॥

(Of him that roar having heard, with a sound like a mass of great clouds, both the great elephants, Citra and Airāvata indeed, arose.)
Hearing his roar, which sounded like a great mass of clouds, the two great elephants, Citra and Airāvata, leapt up. (03-214-22)
तावापतन्तौ सम्प्रेक्ष्य स बालार्कसमद्युतिः। द्वाभ्यां गृहीत्वा पाणिभ्यां शक्तिं चान्येन पाणिना ॥ अपरेणाग्निदायादस्ताम्रचूडं भुजेन सः ॥०३-२१४-२३॥
tāvāpatantau samprekṣya sa bālārkasamadyutiḥ। dvābhyāṃ gṛhītvā pāṇibhyāṃ śaktiṃ cānyena pāṇinā ॥ apareṇāgnidāyādastāmracūḍaṃ bhujena saḥ ॥03-214-23॥

(Having seen those two falling upon (him), he of lustre like the youthful sun, having seized the spear with two hands, and with yet another hand (and) with yet another arm, the descendant of Agni (seized) the one with the coppery crest.)
Seeing those two charging at him, he—resplendent like the rising sun—grasped the spear with both hands; with another hand and with yet another arm, the descendant of Agni seized the one with the coppery crest. (03-214-23)
महाकायमुपश्लिष्टं कुक्कुटं बलिनां वरम्। गृहीत्वा व्यनदद्भीमं चिक्रीड च महाबलः ॥०३-२१४-२४॥

(Having seized the great-bodied, embraced cock, the best of the strong ones, he uttered a terrible sound and played, and the very mighty one.)
The very mighty one, having seized the great-bodied cock who was the best among the strong, embraced it, uttered a terrible sound, and then played. (03-214-24)
द्वाभ्यां भुजाभ्यां बलवान्गृहीत्वा शङ्खमुत्तमम्। प्राध्मापयत भूतानां त्रासनं बलिनामपि ॥०३-२१४-२५॥

(With both arms the strong one, having taken the excellent conch, caused (it) to be blown, (causing) terror to beings, even to the strong.)

dvābhyāṁ bhujābhyām ākāśaṁ bahuśo nijaghāna saḥ। krīḍan bhāti mahāsenas trīnlokān vadanaiḥ piban ॥ parvatāgre'prameyātmā raśmimān udaye yathā ॥03-214-26॥

स तस्य पर्वतस्याग्रे निषण्णोऽद्भुतविक्रमः। व्यलोकयदमेयात्मा मुखैर्नानाविधैर्दिशः ॥ स पश्यन्विविधान्भावांश्चकार निनदं पुनः ॥०३-२१४-२७॥
sa tasya parvatasya agre niṣaṇṇaḥ adbhuta-vikramaḥ। vyalokayat ameya-ātmā mukhaiḥ nānā-vidhaiḥ diśaḥ॥ sa paśyan vividhān bhāvān cakāra ninadam punaḥ॥03-214-27॥

(He, of wondrous valor, seated on top of that mountain, of immeasurable self, beholding the directions with various kinds of faces. He, seeing various states, made a roar again.)
He, possessing wondrous valor, sat atop that mountain; that one with immeasurable self beheld the directions with various faces. Seeing those diverse states, he let out a roar once more. (03-214-27)
तस्य तं निनदं श्रुत्वा न्यपतन्बहुधा जनाः। भीताश्चोद्विग्नमनसस्तमेव शरणं ययुः ॥०३-२१४-२८॥

(Of him that sound having heard, fell down in many ways the people; frightened and anxious-minded, to him alone for refuge they went.)
Hearing his loud roar, the people collapsed in many ways; frightened and anxious at heart, they went to him alone for refuge. (03-214-28)
ये तु तं संश्रिता देवं नानावर्णास्तदा जनाः। तानप्याहुः पारिषदान्ब्राह्मणाः सुमहाबलान् ॥०३-२१४-२९॥
ye tu taṃ saṃśritā devaṃ nānāvarṇās tadā janāḥ. tān apy āhuḥ pāriṣadān brāhmaṇāḥ sumahābalān ॥03-214-29॥
[ये (ye) - who; तु (tu) - but; तं (taṃ) - him; संश्रिता (saṃśritā) - having taken refuge; देवं (devaṃ) - the god; नाना (nānā) - various; वर्णाः (varṇāḥ) - classes; तदा (tadā) - then; जनाः (janāḥ) - people; तान् (tān) - them; अपि (api) - also; आहुः (āhuḥ) - they call; पारिषदान् (pāriṣadān) - attendants; ब्राह्मणाः (brāhmaṇāḥ) - the Brāhmaṇas; सुमहाबलान् (sumahābalān) - of great might;]
(Who but those people of various classes then, having taken refuge in that god, them also the Brāhmaṇas call attendants, of great might.)
But those people of various classes, who at that time took refuge in that god, are also called by the Brāhmaṇas the powerful attendants. (03-214-29)
स तूत्थाय महाबाहुरुपसान्त्व्य च ताञ्जनान्। धनुर्विकृष्य व्यसृजद्बाणाञ्श्वेते महागिरौ ॥०३-२१४-३०॥
sa tūtthāya mahābāhur upasāntvya ca tāñ janān. dhanur vikṛṣya vyasṛjad bāṇāñ śvete mahāgirau ॥03-214-30॥
[स (sa) - he; तूत्थाय (tūtthāya) - having risen; महाबाहुः (mahābāhuḥ) - the mighty-armed; उपसान्त्व्य (upasāntvya) - having soothed; च (ca) - and; तान् (tān) - those; जनान् (janān) - people; धनुः (dhanuḥ) - bow; विकृष्य (vikṛṣya) - having drawn; विसृजत् (visṛjat) - was releasing; बाणान् (bāṇān) - arrows; श्वेते (śvete) - on the white; महागिरौ (mahāgirau) - great mountain;]
(He having risen, the mighty-armed, having soothed and those people, bow having drawn, was releasing arrows on the white great mountain.)
Having risen, the mighty-armed one soothed those people, and drawing his bow, released arrows at the white great mountain. (03-214-30)
बिभेद स शरैः शैलं क्रौञ्चं हिमवतः सुतम्। तेन हंसाश्च गृध्राश्च मेरुं गच्छन्ति पर्वतम् ॥०३-२१४-३१॥
bibheda sa śaraiḥ śailaṃ krauñcaṃ himavataḥ sutam। tena haṃsāś ca gṛdhrāś ca meruṃ gacchanti parvatam॥03-214-31॥

(He shattered, fell down (the) rock, violently howling cries of pain. When he had fallen, but others (the) rocks greatly roared out of fear.)

स तं नादं भृशार्तानां श्रुत्वापि बलिनां वरः। न प्राव्यथदमेयात्मा शक्तिमुद्यम्य चानदत् ॥०३-२१४-३३॥

(He that sound of greatly pained (ones) having heard even, of the strong chief, not was disturbed, of immeasurable mind; spear having lifted up and roared.)
He, the chief among the strong, having heard that cry of those who were greatly anguished, was not agitated; his mind was immeasurable. Lifting up his spear, he roared. (03-214-33)
सा तदा विपुला शक्तिः क्षिप्ता तेन महात्मना। बिभेद शिखरं घोरं श्वेतस्य तरसा गिरेः ॥०३-२१४-३४॥
sā tadā vipulā śaktiḥ kṣiptā tena mahātmanā। bibheda śikharaṃ ghoraṃ śvetasya tarasā gireḥ॥03-214-34॥

(She, then, the great power, hurled by him, by the great-souled, split the terrible peak of Śveta with force of the mountain.)
At that time, that great force, hurled by the great-souled one, split the terrible peak of Mount Śveta with its strength. (03-214-34)
स तेनाभिहतो दीनो गिरिः श्वेतोऽचलैः सह। उत्पपात महीं त्यक्त्वा भीतस्तस्मान्महात्मनः ॥०३-२१४-३५॥
sa tenābhihato dīno giriḥ śveto'calaiḥ saha। utpapāta mahīṃ tyaktvā bhītas tasmān mahātmanaḥ॥03-214-35॥
[स (sa) - he; तेन (tena) - by him; अभिहतः (abhihataḥ) - struck; दीनः (dīnaḥ) - afflicted; गिरिः (giriḥ) - mountain; श्वेतः (śvetaḥ) - white; अचलैः (acalaiḥ) - with (other) mountains; सह (saha) - together; उत्पपात (utpapāta) - sprang up; महीम् (mahīm) - the earth; त्यक्त्वा (tyaktvā) - having left; भीतः (bhītaḥ) - frightened; तस्मात् (tasmāt) - from him; महात्मनः (mahātmanaḥ) - of the great-souled (one);]
(He, struck by him, afflicted, the white mountain together with (other) mountains, sprang up, having left the earth, frightened from that great-souled one.)

(Then, agitated, the earth was shattered on all sides; distressed, approaching Skanda, again powerful, shone.)

पर्वताश्च नमस्कृत्य तमेव पृथिवीं गताः। अथायमभजल्लोकः स्कन्दं शुक्लस्य पञ्चमीम् ॥०३-२१४-३७॥
parvatāś ca namaskṛtya tam eva pṛthivīṃ gatāḥ. athāyam abhajallokaḥ skandaṃ śuklasya pañcamīm ॥03-214-37॥

(Mountains and, having bowed, that indeed earth having gone. Then this world worshipped Skanda, of the bright (half of the month) fifth day.)
The mountains, having bowed to him, went back to the earth. Then, on the fifth day of the bright fortnight, this world worshipped Skanda. (03-214-37)
