गन्धर्वैस्तु महाराज भग्ने कर्णे महारथे। सम्प्राद्रवच्चमूः सर्वा धार्तराष्ट्रस्य पश्यतः ॥०३-२३१-१॥
gandharvaistu mahārāja bhagne karṇe mahārathe। samprādravaccamūḥ sarvā dhārtarāṣṭrasya paśyataḥ॥03-231-1॥
[गन्धर्वैः (gandharvaiḥ) - by Gandharvas; तु (tu) - but; महाराज (mahārāja) - O great king; भग्ने (bhagne) - when was defeated; कर्णे (karṇe) - Karna; महारथे (mahārathe) - the great chariot warrior; सम्प्राद्रवत् (samprādravat) - fled away; चमूः (camūḥ) - the army; सर्वा (sarvā) - entire; धार्तराष्ट्रस्य (dhārtarāṣṭrasya) - of Dhritarashtra's (son); पश्यतः (paśyataḥ) - while he was watching;]
(By Gandharvas but, O great king, when Karna, the great chariot warrior, was defeated, the entire army of Dhritarashtra fled away while he was watching.)
But, O great king, when Karna—the mighty chariot warrior—was defeated by the Gandharvas, the whole army of Dhritarashtra fled while he looked on. (03-231-1)
तान्दृष्ट्वा द्रवतः सर्वान्धार्तराष्ट्रान्पराङ्मुखान्। दुर्योधनो महाराज नासीत्तत्र पराङ्मुखः ॥०३-२३१-२॥
tāndṛṣṭvā dravataḥ sarvāndhārtarāṣṭrānparāṅmukhān। duryodhano mahārāja nāsīttatra parāṅmukhaḥ ॥03-231-2॥

(Having seen them, fleeing, all sons of Dhritarashtra, turned away, Duryodhana the great king was not there turned away.)
Having seen all the sons of Dhritarashtra fleeing and turned away, Duryodhana, the great king, was not turned away there. (03-231-2)
तामापतन्तीं सम्प्रेक्ष्य गन्धर्वाणां महाचमूम्। महता शरवर्षेण सोऽभ्यवर्षदरिंदमः ॥०३-२३१-३॥
tām āpatantīṃ samprekṣya gandharvāṇāṃ mahā-camūm। mahatā śara-varṣeṇa saḥ abhyavarṣat ariṃ-damaḥ॥03-231-3॥
[ताम् (tām) - her; आपतन्तीं (āpatantīṃ) - attacking; approaching; सम्प्रेक्ष्य (samprekṣya) - having seen; observing; गन्धर्वाणाम् (gandharvāṇām) - of the gandharvas; महाचमूम् (mahā-camūm) - great army; महताशरवर्षेण (mahatā śara-varṣeṇa) - with a great shower of arrows; सः (saḥ) - he; अभ्यवर्षत् (abhyavarṣat) - attacked with (rained upon); अरिंदमः (ariṃ-damaḥ) - the subduer of enemies;]
(Her attacking, having seen the gandharvas' great army, with a great shower of arrows, he (the subduer of enemies) attacked (rained upon).)
Seeing her advancing and the great army of the gandharvas, the subduer of enemies attacked them with a great shower of arrows. (03-231-3)
अचिन्त्य शरवर्षं तु गन्धर्वास्तस्य तं रथम्। दुर्योधनं जिघांसन्तः समन्तात्पर्यवारयन् ॥०३-२३१-४॥
acintya śaravarṣaṃ tu gandharvāstasya taṃ ratham। duryodhanaṃ jighāṃsantaḥ samantāt paryavārayan ॥03-231-4॥
[अचिन्त्य (acintya) - inconceivable; शरवर्षं (śaravarṣam) - arrow-rain; तु (tu) - but; गन्धर्वाः (gandharvāḥ) - the Gandharvas; तस्य (tasya) - his; तं (tam) - that; रथम् (ratham) - chariot; दुर्योधनं (duryodhanam) - Duryodhana; जिघांसन्तः (jighāṃsantaḥ) - wishing to kill; समन्तात् (samantāt) - from all sides; पर्यवारयन् (paryavārayan) - they surrounded;]
(Inconceivable arrow-rain but the Gandharvas his that chariot, Duryodhana, wishing to kill, from all sides they surrounded.)
But the Gandharvas, wishing to kill Duryodhana, surrounded his chariot with an inconceivable shower of arrows from all sides. (03-231-4)
युगमीषां वरूथं च तथैव ध्वजसारथी। अश्वांस्त्रिवेणुं तल्पं च तिलशोऽभ्यहनन्रथम् ॥०३-२३१-५॥
yugam īṣām varūthaṃ ca tathaiva dhvaja-sārathī | aśvāṃś tri-veṇuṃ talpaṃ ca tilaśo 'bhyahanan ratham ॥03-231-5॥
[युगम् (yugam) - yoke; ईषाम् (īṣām) - reins; वरूथम् (varūtham) - fender; च (ca) - and; तथैव (tathaiva) - just so; ध्वजसारथी (dhvaja-sārathī) - the driver of the banner (charioteer); अश्वान् (aśvān) - horses; त्रिवेणुम् (tri-veṇum) - the three axle-poles; तल्पम् (talpam) - floor (of the chariot); च (ca) - and; तिलशः (tilaśaḥ) - like sesame seeds (into minute particles); अभ्यहनन् (abhyahanan) - they struck; रथम् (ratham) - chariot; । (।) - ॥०३-२३१-५॥ (॥03-231-5॥) -;]
(Yoke, reins, fender and just so the banner-charioteer; horses, three axle-poles, the floor and, like sesame seeds, they struck the chariot.)
They shattered the yoke, reins, fender, and in the same way the charioteer bearing the banner; the horses, the axle-poles, the floor, and pounded the chariot into particles like sesame seeds. (03-231-5)
दुर्योधनं चित्रसेनो विरथं पतितं भुवि। अभिद्रुत्य महाबाहुर्जीवग्राहमथाग्रहीत् ॥०३-२३१-६॥
duryodhanaṁ citraseno virathaṁ patitaṁ bhuvi। abhidrutya mahābāhur jīvagrāham athāgrahīt ॥03-231-6॥
[दुर्योधनं (duryodhanaṁ) - Duryodhana (accusative); चित्रसेनः (citrasenaḥ) - Citraseṇa (nominative); विरथं (virathaṁ) - bereft of chariot; पतितं (patitaṁ) - fallen; भुवि (bhuvi) - on the ground; अभिद्रुत्य (abhidrutya) - having rushed towards; महाबाहुः (mahābāhuḥ) - the mighty-armed one (nominative singular); जीवग्राहम् (jīvagrāham) - alive (for capturing alive); अथ (atha) - then; अग्रहीत् (agrahīt) - seized (he took hold of);]
(Duryodhana, Citraseṇa, bereft of chariot, fallen, on the ground—having rushed towards (him), the mighty-armed one then seized alive.)
Citraseṇa, the mighty-armed one, rushed towards Duryodhana, who had fallen on the ground bereft of his chariot, and then seized him alive. (03-231-6)
तस्मिन्गृहीते राजेन्द्र स्थितं दुःशासनं रथे। पर्यगृह्णन्त गन्धर्वाः परिवार्य समन्ततः ॥०३-२३१-७॥
tasmin gṛhīte rājendra sthitaṃ duḥśāsanaṃ rathe। paryagṛhṇanta gandharvāḥ parivārya samantataḥ ॥03-231-7॥
[तस्मिन् (tasmin) - in that; गृहीते (gṛhīte) - being seized; राजेन्द्र (rājendra) - O king; स्थितं (sthitaṃ) - standing; दुःशासनं (duḥśāsanam) - Duḥśāsana; रथे (rathe) - on the chariot; पर्यगृह्णन्त (paryagṛhṇanta) - they surrounded; गन्धर्वाः (gandharvāḥ) - the Gandharvas; परिवार्य (parivārya) - surrounding; समन्ततः (samantataḥ) - on all sides;]
(In that being seized, O king, standing Duḥśāsana on the chariot, the Gandharvas surrounded (him), surrounding on all sides.)
O king, when he was thus seized, the Gandharvas surrounded Duḥśāsana as he stood on the chariot, encircling him on all sides. (03-231-7)
विविंशतिं चित्रसेनमादायान्ये प्रदुद्रुवुः। विन्दानुविन्दावपरे राजदारांश्च सर्वशः ॥०३-२३१-८॥
viviṁśatiṁ citrasenam ādāyānye pradudruvuḥ। vindānuvindāv apare rājadārāṁś ca sarvaśaḥ॥03-231-8॥
[विविंशतिं (viviṁśatim) - twenty; चित्रसेनम् (citrasenam) - Citrasena; आदाय (ādāya) - having taken; अन्ये (anye) - others; प्रदुद्रुवुः (pradudruvuḥ) - ran away; विन्दानुविन्दौ (vindānuvindau) - Vinda and Anuvinda; अपरे (apare) - others; राजदारान् (rājadārān) - wives of the king; च (ca) - and; सर्वशः (sarvaśaḥ) - entirely;]
(Twenty having taken Citrasena, others ran away. Vinda and Anuvinda, others, and the wives of the king also entirely.)
Twenty men, taking Citrasena, fled; others—Vinda and Anuvinda—completely fled, along with all the wives of the king. (03-231-8)
सैन्यास्तु धार्तराष्ट्रस्य गन्धर्वैः समभिद्रुताः। पूर्वं प्रभग्नैः सहिताः पाण्डवानभ्ययुस्तदा ॥०३-२३१-९॥
sainyās tu dhārtarāṣṭrasya gandharvaiḥ samabhidrutāḥ। pūrvaṃ prabhagnaiḥ sahitāḥ pāṇḍavān abhyayus tadā॥03-231-9॥
[सैन्याः (sainyāḥ) - armies;, तु (tu) - but;, धार्तराष्ट्रस्य (dhārtarāṣṭrasya) - of Dhritarashtra's (sons');, गन्धर्वैः (gandharvaiḥ) - by the Gandharvas;, समभिद्रुताः (samabhidrutāḥ) - thoroughly attacked;, पूर्वं (pūrvam) - before;, प्रभग्नैः (prabhagnaiḥ) - by those who were routed;, सहिताः (sahitāḥ) - together (with);, पाण्डवान् (pāṇḍavān) - (to) the Pāṇḍavas;, अभ्ययुः (abhyayus) - approached;, तदा (tadā) - then;]
(Armies but of Dhritarashtra (sons') by the Gandharvas thoroughly attacked, before by those who were routed, together (with), (to) the Pandavas approached then.)
But the armies of Dhritarashtra, having been thoroughly attacked by the Gandharvas, and previously routed, together then approached the Pandavas. (03-231-9)
शकटापणवेश्याश्च यानयुग्यं च सर्वशः। शरणं पाण्डवाञ्जग्मुर्ह्रियमाणे महीपतौ ॥०३-२३१-१०॥
śakaṭāpaṇaveśyāś ca yānayugyaṃ ca sarvaśaḥ| śaraṇaṃ pāṇḍavāñ jagmur hriyamāṇe mahīpatau॥03-231-10॥
[शकटापणवेश्याः (śakaṭāpaṇaveśyāḥ) - the cart-drivers, the traders, and the courtesans; च (ca) - and; यानयुग्यम् (yānayugyam) - vehicles (fit) for harnessing; च (ca) - and; सर्वशः (sarvaśaḥ) - entirely; all together; शरणम् (śaraṇam) - refuge; पाण्डवान् (pāṇḍavān) - the Pāṇḍavas; जग्मुः (jagmuḥ) - went; ह्रियमाणे (hriyamāṇe) - being carried away; महीपतौ (mahīpatau) - king;]
(The cart-drivers, traders, and courtesans, and all vehicles (fit) for harnessing, entirely, went for refuge to the Pāṇḍavas, as the king was being carried away.)
When the king was being carried away, the cart-drivers, traders, courtesans, and all the vehicles for harnessing went to the Pāṇḍavas for refuge. (03-231-10)
प्रियदर्शनो महाबाहुर्धार्तराष्ट्रो महाबलः। गन्धर्वैर्ह्रियते राजा पार्थास्तमनुधावत ॥०३-२३१-११॥
priyadarśano mahābāhur dhārtarāṣṭro mahābalaḥ। gandharvair hriyate rājā pārthās tam anudhāvata ॥03-231-11॥
[प्रियदर्शनः (priyadarśanaḥ) - having a pleasant appearance; pleasant-looking; महाबाहुः (mahābāhuḥ) - mighty-armed; धार्तराष्ट्रः (dhārtarāṣṭraḥ) - son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra; महाबलः (mahābalaḥ) - of great strength; गन्धर्वैः (gandharvaiḥ) - by the gandharvas; ह्रियते (hriyate) - is being carried away; राजा (rājā) - the king; पार्थाः (pārthāḥ) - the sons of Pārtha (the Pāṇḍavas); तम् (tam) - him; अनुधावन्ति (anudhāvanti) - are running after;]
(The pleasant-looking, mighty-armed, great-strength son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, the king, is being carried away by the gandharvas; the Pārthas are running after him.)
The pleasant-looking, mighty-armed, and powerful son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, the king, is being carried away by the gandharvas; the Pāṇḍavas are running after him. (03-231-11)
दुःशासनो दुर्विषहो दुर्मुखो दुर्जयस्तथा। बद्ध्वा ह्रियन्ते गन्धर्वै राजदाराश्च सर्वशः ॥०३-२३१-१२॥
duḥśāsano durviṣaho durmukho durjayastathā। baddhvā hriyante gandharvai rājadārāś ca sarvaśaḥ॥03-231-12॥

(Duḥśāsana, Durviṣaha, Durmukha, and Durjaya likewise—having bound, are carried off by Gandharvas, and the king's wives, altogether.)
Duḥśāsana, Durviṣaha, Durmukha, and Durjaya, after being bound, are all carried away by the Gandharvas, together with the king's wives. (03-231-12)
इति दुर्योधनामात्याः क्रोशन्तो राजगृद्धिनः। आर्ता दीनस्वराः सर्वे युधिष्ठिरमुपागमन् ॥०३-२३१-१३॥
iti duryodhanāmātyāḥ krośanto rājagṛddhinaḥ. ārtā dīnasvarāḥ sarve yudhiṣṭhiramupāgaman ॥03-231-13॥
[इति (iti) - thus; दुर्योधनामात्याः (duryodhanāmātyāḥ) - Duryodhana's ministers; क्रोशन्तः (krośantaḥ) - crying out; राजगृद्धिनः (rājagṛddhinaḥ) - desiring the kingdom; आर्ताः (ārtāḥ) - afflicted; दीनस्वराः (dīnasvarāḥ) - with pitiful voices; सर्वे (sarve) - all; युधिष्ठिरम् (yudhiṣṭhiram) - to Yudhishthira; उपागमन् (upāgaman) - approached;]
(Thus Duryodhana's ministers, crying out, desiring the kingdom, afflicted, with pitiful voices, all approached Yudhishthira.)
Thus all Duryodhana's ministers, crying out for the kingdom in affliction and with pitiful voices, approached Yudhishthira. (03-231-13)
तांस्तथा व्यथितान्दीनान्भिक्षमाणान्युधिष्ठिरम्। वृद्धान्दुर्योधनामात्यान्भीमसेनोऽभ्यभाषत ॥०३-२३१-१४॥
tāṃs tathā vyathitān dīnān bhikṣamāṇān yudhiṣṭhiram। vṛddhān duryodhanāmātyān bhīmaseno'bhyabhāṣata ॥03-231-14॥
[ताँस् (tāṃs) - them; तथा (tathā) - thus; व्यथितान् (vyathitān) - afflicted; दीनान् (dīnān) - miserable; भिक्षमाणान् (bhikṣamāṇān) - begging; युधिष्ठिरम् (yudhiṣṭhiram) - Yudhiṣṭhira; वृद्धान् (vṛddhān) - old; दुर्योधन-अमात्यान् (duryodhana-amātyān) - Duryodhana's ministers; भीमसेनः (bhīmasenaḥ) - Bhīmasena; अभ्यभाषत (abhyabhāṣata) - addressed;]
(Them thus afflicted, miserable, begging, Yudhiṣṭhira, the old, Duryodhana's ministers, Bhīmasena addressed.)
Bhīmasena addressed Yudhiṣṭhira, the old and miserable men, those who were begging, and Duryodhana's ministers, seeing them in such an afflicted state. (03-231-14)
अन्यथा वर्तमानानामर्थो जातोऽयमन्यथा। अस्माभिर्यदनुष्ठेयं गन्धर्वैस्तदनुष्ठितम् ॥०३-२३१-१५॥
anyathā vartamānānām artho jāto' yam anyathā। asmābhir yad anuṣṭheyaṃ gandharvais tad anuṣṭhitam ॥03-231-15॥
[अन्यथा (anyathā) - otherwise; वर्तमानानाम् (vartamānānām) - of those who are present; अर्थः (arthaḥ) - meaning; purpose; जातः (jātaḥ) - has arisen; is produced; अयम् (ayam) - this; अन्यथा (anyathā) - in another way; अस्माभिः (asmābhiḥ) - by us; यत् (yat) - what; that which; अनुष्ठेयं (anuṣṭheyam) - ought to be performed; should be done; गन्धर्वैः (gandharvaiḥ) - by the Gandharvas; तत् (tat) - that; अनुष्ठितम् (anuṣṭhitam) - has been performed; ॥०३-२३१-१५॥ (॥03-231-15॥) - ;]
(Otherwise, the meaning of those present has arisen in another way. That which ought to be performed by us has been performed by the Gandharvas.)
Otherwise, for those present, the purpose has turned out differently. What we ought to have done was performed by the Gandharvas. (03-231-15)
दुर्मन्त्रितमिदं तात राज्ञो दुर्द्यूतदेविनः। द्वेष्टारमन्ये क्लीबस्य पातयन्तीति नः श्रुतम् ॥०३-२३१-१६॥
durmantritam idaṃ tāta rājño durdyūta-devinaḥ। dveṣṭāram anye klibasya pātayantīti naḥ śrutam॥03-231-16॥
[दुर्मन्त्रितम् (durmantritam) - ill-advised; इदं (idaṃ) - this; तात (tāta) - dear (addressing term, O father/son); राज्ञः (rājñaḥ) - of the king; दुर्द्यूत (durdyūta) - of bad dice-play; देविनः (devinaḥ) - gambling (possessing gambling skill/activity); द्वेष्टारम् (dveṣṭāram) - the enemy; अन्ये (anye) - others; क्लीबस्य (klibasya) - of the weak/impotent; पातयन्ति (pātayanti) - cause to fall; इति (iti) - thus; नः (naḥ) - to us; श्रुतम् (śrutam) - has been heard;]
(Ill-advised this, O dear, of the king, of evil dice-gambling; the enemy others of the weak cause to fall thus to us has been heard.)
This is ill-advised, dear one; it is said that through the king's reckless gambling, others, enemies of the weak, bring them down—we have heard thus. (03-231-16)
तदिदं कृतं नः प्रत्यक्षं गन्धर्वैरतिमानुषम्। दिष्ट्या लोके पुमानस्ति कश्चिदस्मत्प्रिये स्थितः ॥ येनास्माकं हृतो भार आसीनानां सुखावहः ॥०३-२३१-१७॥
tad idaṁ kṛtaṁ naḥ pratyakṣaṁ gandharvair atimānuṣam। diṣṭyā loke pumān asti kaścid asmat-priye sthitaḥ ॥ yena asmākaṁ hṛto bhāra āsīnānāṁ sukhāvahaḥ ॥03-231-17॥
[तत् (tad) (tad) - that; इदं (idaṁ) (idaṁ) - this; कृतं (kṛtaṁ) (kṛtaṁ) - done; नः (naḥ) (naḥ) - by us; for us; प्रत्यक्षं (pratyakṣaṁ) (pratyakṣaṁ) - before our eyes; manifestly; गन्धर्वैः (gandharvaiḥ) (gandharvaiḥ) - by the Gandharvas; अतिमानुषम् (atimānuṣam) (atimānuṣam) - superhuman; दिष्ट्या (diṣṭyā) (diṣṭyā) - fortunately; by fate; लोके (loke) (loke) - in the world; पुमान् (pumān) (pumān) - man; अस्ति (asti) (asti) - is; कश्चित् (kaścit) (kaścit) - someone; अस्मत्प्रिये (asmat-priye) (asmat-priye) - among our dear; to our beloved; स्थितः (sthitaḥ) (sthitaḥ) - has abided; has appeared; येन (yena) (yena) - by whom; अस्माकं (asmākaṁ) (asmākaṁ) - our; हृतः (hṛtaḥ) (hṛtaḥ) - removed; taken away; भारः (bhāraḥ) (bhāra) - burden; आसीनानाम् (āsīnānām) (āsīnānām) - of those sitting; सुखावहः (sukhāvahaḥ) (sukhāvahaḥ) - giver of happiness;]
(That this superhuman act was done for us directly by the Gandharvas; fortunately, in the world, some man has remained among our dear ones, by whom our burden, for those sitting, the giver of happiness, has been removed.)
This superhuman deed was performed for us right before our eyes by the Gandharvas. Fortunately, there remains in this world a man among our beloved ones, by whom the burden that brought happiness to us who sat (here) has been removed. (03-231-17)
शीतवातातपसहांस्तपसा चैव कर्शितान्। समस्थो विषमस्थान्हि द्रष्टुमिच्छति दुर्मतिः ॥०३-२३१-१८॥
śīta-vāta-ātapa-sahāṁs tapasyā caiva karśitān। samastho viṣama-sthān hi draṣṭum icchati durmatiḥ ॥03-231-18॥
[शीत (śīta) - cold; वात (vāta) - wind; आतप (ātapa) - sun-heat; सहांस् (sahāṁs) - bearing; तपसा (tapasā) - by austerity; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; कर्शितान् (karśitān) - emaciated; समस्थः (samasthaḥ) - one who is in a comfortable condition; विषमस्थान् (viṣama-sthān) - those in a difficult state; हि (hi) - indeed; द्रष्टुम् (draṣṭum) - to see; इच्छति (icchati) - desires; दुर्मतिः (durmatiḥ) - the wicked-minded;]
(Cold, wind, sun-heat bearing, by austerity and indeed emaciated; one who is in a comfortable condition those in a difficult state indeed to see desires the wicked-minded.)
The wicked-minded person, being in a comfortable situation, indeed desires to see those who are bearing cold, wind, and sun-heat, emaciated by austerity, in their difficult state. (03-231-18)
अधर्मचारिणस्तस्य कौरव्यस्य दुरात्मनः। ये शीलमनुवर्तन्ते ते पश्यन्ति पराभवम् ॥०३-२३१-१९॥
adharma-cāriṇas tasya kauravyasya dur-ātmanaḥ। ye śīlam anuvartante te paśyanti parābhavam॥03-231-19॥
[अधर्मचारिणः (adharma-cāriṇaḥ) - followers of unrighteousness; तस्य (tasya) - of him; कौरव्यस्य (kauravyasya) - of the Kaurava; दुरात्मनः (dur-ātmanaḥ) - wicked-souled; ये (ye) - who; शीलम् (śīlam) - character; अनुवर्तन्ते (anuvartante) - follow; ते (te) - they; पश्यन्ति (paśyanti) - see; पराभवम् (parābhavam) - ruin;]
(Followers of unrighteousness, of that Kaurava, wicked-souled, who character follow, they see ruin.)
Those who follow the character of that wicked-souled Kaurava, who is unrighteous, they meet with ruin. (03-231-19)
अधर्मो हि कृतस्तेन येनैतदुपशिक्षितम्। अनृशंसास्तु कौन्तेयास्तस्याध्यक्षान्ब्रवीमि वः ॥०३-२३१-२०॥
adharmo hi kṛtas tena yena etad upaśikṣitam। anṛśaṁsās tu kaunteyās tasya adhyakṣān bravīmi vaḥ॥03-231-20॥
[अधर्मः (adharmaḥ) - unrighteousness; हि (hi) - indeed; कृतः (kṛtaḥ) - done; तेन (tena) - by him; येन (yena) - by whom; एतत् (etat) - this; उपशिक्षितम् (upaśikṣitam) - was taught; अनृशंसाः (anṛśaṁsāḥ) - compassionate ones; तु (tu) - however; कौन्तेयाः (kaunteyāḥ) - the sons of Kunti; तस्य (tasya) - of him; अध्यक्षान् (adhyakṣān) - overseers; ब्रवीमि (bravīmi) - I declare; वः (vaḥ) - to you;]
(Unrighteousness indeed was done by him by whom this was taught. The sons of Kunti, however, are compassionate; of him, the overseers, I declare to you.)
Indeed, unrighteousness was done by him who taught this; however, the sons of Kunti are compassionate—I declare to you the overseers of his case. (03-231-20)
एवं ब्रुवाणं कौन्तेयं भीमसेनममर्षणम्। न कालः परुषस्यायमिति राजाभ्यभाषत ॥०३-२३१-२१॥
evaṁ bruvāṇaṁ kaunteyaṁ bhīmasenamam arṣaṇam. na kālaḥ paruṣasyāyam iti rājābhyabhāṣata ॥03-231-21॥
[एवं (evaṁ) - thus; ब्रुवाणं (bruvāṇam) - speaking; कौन्तेयं (kaunteyam) - the son of Kuntī; भीमसेनम् (bhīmasenam) - Bhīmasena; अमर्षणम् (amarṣaṇam) - impatient; न (na) - not; कालः (kālaḥ) - time; परुषस्य (paruṣasya) - of harshness; अयम् (ayam) - this; इति (iti) - thus; राजा (rājā) - the king; अभ्यभाषत (abhyabhāṣata) - addressed;]
(Thus speaking, the son of Kuntī, Bhīmasena, (being) impatient. "Not (is) this time for harshness"—thus, the king addressed (him).)
As Bhīmasena, Kuntī's son, impatiently spoke thus, the king addressed him, saying, "This is not the time for harshness." (03-231-21)
