अस्मानभिगतांस्तात भयार्ताञ्शरणैषिणः। कौरवान्विषमप्राप्तान्कथं ब्रूयास्त्वमीदृशम् ॥०३-२३२-१॥
asmān abhigatāṁs tāta bhayārtāñ śaraṇaiṣiṇaḥ। kauravān viṣama-prāptān kathaṁ brūyās tvam īdṛśam॥03-232-1॥
[अस्मान् (asmān) - us; अभिगतान् (abhigatān) - who have approached; तात (tāta) - O dear one; भयार्तान् (bhayārtān) - afflicted by fear; शरणैषिणः (śaraṇaiṣiṇaḥ) - seeking refuge; कौरवान् (kauravān) - the Kauravas; विषमप्राप्तान् (viṣama-prāptān) - who have come to difficulty; कथम् (katham) - how; ब्रूयाः (brūyāḥ) - could you say; त्वम् (tvam) - you; ईदृशम् (īdṛśam) - such;]
(Us, who have approached, O dear one, afflicted by fear, seeking refuge, the Kauravas, who have come to difficulty, how could you say such (things)?)
O dear one, how could you say such things to us Kauravas, who have approached you, afflicted by fear and seeking refuge, being in difficulty? (03-232-1)
भवन्ति भेदा ज्ञातीनां कलहाश्च वृकोदर। प्रसक्तानि च वैराणि ज्ञातिधर्मो न नश्यति ॥०३-२३२-२॥
bhavanti bhedā jñātīnāṃ kalahāś ca vṛkodara. prasaktāni ca vairāṇi jñātidharmo na naśyati ॥03-232-2॥
[भवन्ति (bhavanti) - arise; happen; भेदा (bhedā) - divisions; dissensions; ज्ञातीनां (jñātīnāṃ) - of relatives; कलहाः (kalahāḥ) - quarrels; conflicts; च (ca) - and; वृकोदर (vṛkodara) - O Vṛkodara; प्रसक्तानि (prasaktāni) - attached; clinging; च (ca) - and; वैराणि (vairāṇi) - enmities; hostilities; ज्ञातिधर्मः (jñātidharmaḥ) - the nature of kin; न (na) - not; नश्यति (naśyati) - perishes; is lost;]
(Arise divisions of relatives, quarrels also, O Vṛkodara; attached and enmities; the nature of kin does not perish.)
Divisions and quarrels arise among relatives, O Vṛkodara; and even when enmities persist, the bond of kinship does not disappear. (03-232-2)
यदा तु कश्चिज्ज्ञातीनां बाह्यः प्रार्थयते कुलम्। न मर्षयन्ति तत्सन्तो बाह्येनाभिप्रमर्षणम् ॥०३-२३२-३॥
yadā tu kaścid jñātīnāṃ bāhyaḥ prārthayate kulam। na marṣayanti tat santo bāhyenābhipramarṣaṇam ॥03-232-3॥
[यदा (yadā) - when; तु (tu) - but; कश्चित् (kaścit) - someone; ज्ञातीनाम् (jñātīnām) - of the kinsmen; बाह्यः (bāhyaḥ) - an outsider; प्रार्थयते (prārthayate) - requests; कुलम् (kulam) - the family; न (na) - not; मर्षयन्ति (marṣayanti) - they tolerate; तत् (tat) - that; सन्तः (santaḥ) - the virtuous; बाह्येन (bāhyena) - by an outsider; अभिप्रमर्षणम् (abhipramarṣaṇam) - an act of offence;]
(When but someone of the kinsmen an outsider requests the family, not tolerate that the virtuous, by an outsider, an act of offence.)
But when an outsider seeks the family of the kinsmen, the virtuous do not tolerate that offence caused by an outsider. (03-232-3)
जानाति ह्येष दुर्बुद्धिरस्मानिह चिरोषितान्। स एष परिभूयास्मानकार्षीदिदमप्रियम् ॥०३-२३२-४॥
jānāti hyeṣa durbuddhir asmāniha ciroṣitān। sa eṣa paribhūyāsmān akārṣīd idam apriyam॥03-232-4॥
[जानाति (jānāti) - knows; हि (hi) - indeed; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this (he); दुर्बुद्धिः (durbuddhiḥ) - evil-minded; अस्मान् (asmān) - us; इह (iha) - here; चिरोषितान् (ciroṣitān) - dwelt a long time; सः (saḥ) - he; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this (he); परिभूय (paribhūya) - having disregarded; अस्मान् (asmān) - us; अकार्षीत् (akārṣīt) - did (he did); इदम् (idam) - this; अप्रियम् (apriyam) - unpleasant (act);]
(Knows indeed this evil-minded (one) us here long-dwelling; he this having disregarded us did this unpleasant (act).)
This evil-minded one knows indeed that we have long dwelt here; he, having disregarded us, has done this unpleasant deed. (03-232-4)
दुर्योधनस्य ग्रहणाद्गन्धर्वेण बलाद्रणे। स्त्रीणां बाह्याभिमर्शाच्च हतं भवति नः कुलम् ॥०३-२३२-५॥
duryodhanasya grahaṇādgandharveṇa balādraṇe। strīṇāṃ bāhyābhimarśācca hataṃ bhavati naḥ kulam॥03-232-5॥
[दुर्योधनस्य (duryodhanasya) - of Duryodhana; ग्रहणात् (grahaṇāt) - from the capture; गन्धर्वेण (gandharveṇa) - by a Gandharva; बलात् (balāt) - by force; रणे (raṇe) - in battle; स्त्रीणां (strīṇāṃ) - of women; बाह्याभिमर्शात् (bāhyābhimarśāt) - from outer contact; च (ca) - and; हतम् (hatam) - destroyed; भवति (bhavati) - becomes; नः (naḥ) - our; कुलम् (kulam) - family;]
(From the capture of Duryodhana by a Gandharva by force in battle, and from the outer contact of women, our family becomes destroyed.)
Our family is destroyed due to Duryodhana being forcefully captured by a Gandharva in battle, and also due to the external contact with women. (03-232-5)
शरणं च प्रपन्नानां त्राणार्थं च कुलस्य नः। उत्तिष्ठध्वं नरव्याघ्राः सज्जीभवत माचिरम् ॥०३-२३२-६॥
śaraṇaṁ ca prapannānāṁ trāṇārthaṁ ca kulasya naḥ। uttiṣṭhadhvaṁ naravyāghrāḥ sajjībhavata māciram ॥03-232-6॥
[शरणम् (śaraṇam) - refuge; च (ca) - and; प्रपन्नानाम् (prapannānām) - of those who have taken shelter; त्राणार्थम् (trāṇārtham) - for the protection; च (ca) - and; कुलस्य (kulasya) - of the family; नः (naḥ) - our; उत्तिष्ठध्वम् (uttiṣṭhadhvam) - you (all) arise; नरव्याघ्राः (naravyāghrāḥ) - tiger-like men; सज्जीभवत (sajjībhavata) - prepare yourselves; मा (mā) - not; अचिरम् (aciram) - delay;]
(Refuge and of those who have taken shelter, for the protection and of our family; you (all) arise, tiger-like men, prepare yourselves, do not delay.)
Be the refuge of those who have sought protection and for the sake of our family; arise, tiger-like men, get ready without delay. (03-232-6)
अर्जुनश्च यमौ चैव त्वं च भीमापराजितः। मोक्षयध्वं धार्तराष्ट्रं ह्रियमाणं सुयोधनम् ॥०३-२३२-७॥
arjunaś ca yamau caiva tvaṃ ca bhīmāparājitaḥ। mokṣayadhvaṃ dhārtarāṣṭraṃ hriyamāṇaṃ suyodhanam ॥03-232-7॥
[अर्जुनः (arjunaḥ) - Arjuna; च (ca) - and; यमौ (yamau) - the two sons of Yama; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; च (ca) - and; भीमापराजितः (bhīmāparājitaḥ) - invincible by Bhīma; मोक्षयध्वं (mokṣayadhvam) - release (imperative, you all); धार्तराष्ट्रं (dhārtarāṣṭram) - the son of Dhritarashtra; ह्रियमाणं (hriyamāṇam) - being carried away; सुयोधनम् (suyodhanam) - Suyodhana (another name for Duryodhana);]
(Arjuna and the two sons of Yama, and you also invincible by Bhīma—release the son of Dhritarashtra, Suyodhana, being carried away.)
Arjuna, the twins (the sons of Yama), you, and the invincible Bhīma—release Suyodhana, the son of Dhritarashtra, who is being carried away. (03-232-7)
एते रथा नरव्याघ्राः सर्वशस्त्रसमन्विताः। इन्द्रसेनादिभिः सूतैः संयताः कनकध्वजाः ॥०३-२३२-८॥
ete rathā naravyāghrāḥ sarvaśastrasamanvitāḥ। indrasenādibhiḥ sūtaiḥ saṃyatāḥ kanakadhvajāḥ॥03-232-8॥
[एते (ete) - these; रथाः (rathāḥ) - chariots; नरव्याघ्राः (naravyāghrāḥ) - tiger-like men; सर्वशस्त्रसमन्विताः (sarvaśastrasamanvitāḥ) - endowed with all weapons; इन्द्रसेनादिभिः (indrasenādibhiḥ) - with Indrasena and others; सूतैः (sūtaiḥ) - by charioteers; संयताः (saṃyatāḥ) - controlled; कनकध्वजाः (kanakadhvajāḥ) - bearing golden banners;]
(These chariots, tiger-like men, endowed with all weapons, by Indrasena and others, by charioteers, controlled, bearing golden banners.)
These chariots, bearing golden banners, manned and controlled by charioteers such as Indrasena, are filled with tiger-like heroes fully equipped with every weapon. (03-232-8)
एतानास्थाय वै तात गन्धर्वान्योद्धुमाहवे। सुयोधनस्य मोक्षाय प्रयतध्वमतन्द्रिताः ॥०३-२३२-९॥
etān āsthāya vai tāta gandharvān yoddhum āhave. suyodhanasya mokṣāya prayatadhvam atandritāḥ ॥03-232-9॥
[एतान् (etān) - these (ones); आस्थाय (āsthāya) - having relied upon; वै (vai) - indeed; तात (tāta) - O dear (one); गन्धर्वान् (gandharvān) - Gandharvas; युद्धुम् (yoddhum) - to fight; आहवे (āhave) - in battle; सुयोधनस्य (suyodhanasya) - of Suyodhana; मोक्षाय (mokṣāya) - for liberation; प्रयतध्वम् (prayatadhvam) - make effort; अतन्द्रिताः (atandritāḥ) - without laziness;]
(Having relied upon these indeed, O dear one, to fight the Gandharvas in battle, for the liberation of Suyodhana, make effort without laziness.)
O dear one, depending on these, strive without sloth to fight the Gandharvas in battle for the release of Suyodhana. (03-232-9)
य एव कश्चिद्राजन्यः शरणार्थमिहागतम्। परं शक्त्याभिरक्षेत किं पुनस्त्वं वृकोदर ॥०३-२३२-१०॥
ya eva kaścid rājanyaḥ śaraṇārtham ihāgatam। paraṁ śaktyā abhirakṣet kiṁ punas tvaṁ vṛkodara ॥03-232-10॥
[य (ya) - who; एव (eva) - indeed; कश्चित् (kaścit) - someone; राजण्यः (rājanyaḥ) - a kṣatriya (warrior); शरणार्थम् (śaraṇārtham) - for refuge; इह (iha) - here; आगतम् (āgatam) - having come; परम् (param) - other; शक्त्या (śaktyā) - with ability; अभिरक्षेत् (abhirakṣet) - should protect; किं (kiṁ) - what; पुनः (punas) - again; त्वम् (tvam) - you; वृकोदर (vṛkodara) - Vṛkodara (Bhīma);]
(Who indeed some kṣatriya for refuge here having come, other should with ability protect; what again you, Vṛkodara?)
Indeed, whoever is a kṣatriya who has come here for refuge, another should protect him to the best of his ability; how much more so you, Vṛkodara? (03-232-10)
क इहान्यो भवेत्त्राणमभिधावेति चोदितः। प्राञ्जलिं शरणापन्नं दृष्ट्वा शत्रुमपि ध्रुवम् ॥०३-२३२-११॥
ka ihānyaḥ bhavet trāṇam abhi-dhāvati ca uditaḥ। prāñjalim śaraṇa-āpannam dṛṣṭvā śatrum api dhruvam॥03-232-11॥
[क (ka) - who; इह (iha) - here; अन्यः (anyaḥ) - another; भवेत् (bhavet) - would be; त्राणम् (trāṇam) - protection; अभिधावेति (abhi-dhāvati) - runs towards; च (ca) - and; उदितः (uditaḥ) - having been invoked; प्राञ्जलिं (prāñjalim) - with joined palms; शरणापन्नम् (śaraṇa-āpannam) - one who has sought refuge; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; शत्रुम् (śatrum) - enemy; अपि (api) - even; ध्रुवम् (dhruvam) - certainly;]
(Who here else would be protection, runs towards when invoked, having seen one with joined palms, who has sought refuge, even if an enemy, certainly.)
Who else here would provide protection and rush forward when invoked, surely, upon seeing someone with joined palms and seeking refuge, even if that person is an enemy? (03-232-11)
वरप्रदानं राज्यं च पुत्रजन्म च पाण्डव। शत्रोश्च मोक्षणं क्लेशात्त्रीणि चैकं च तत्समम् ॥०३-२३२-१२॥
varapradānaṁ rājyaṁ ca putrajanaṁ ca pāṇḍava। śatroś ca mokṣaṇaṁ kleśāt trīṇi ca ekaṁ ca tat samam ॥03-232-12॥
[वरप्रदानं (varapradānaṁ) - granting of a boon; राज्यं (rājyaṁ) - kingdom; च (ca) - and; पुत्रजन्म (putrajanma) - begetting of a son; च (ca) - and; पाण्डव (pāṇḍava) - O Pāṇḍava; शत्रोः (śatroḥ) - of the enemy; च (ca) - and; मोक्षणं (mokṣaṇam) - release; क्लेशात् (kleśāt) - from suffering; त्रीणि (trīṇi) - three; च (ca) - and; एकं (ekaṁ) - one; च (ca) - and; तत् (tat) - that; समम् (samam) - equal;]
(Granting of a boon, kingdom, and begetting of a son, O Pāṇḍava, and release of the enemy from suffering, three and one and that are equal.)
O Pāṇḍava, granting a boon, acquiring a kingdom, begetting a son, and releasing an enemy from suffering—these four, they are equal. (03-232-12)
किं ह्यभ्यधिकमेतस्माद्यदापन्नः सुयोधनः। त्वद्बाहुबलमाश्रित्य जीवितं परिमार्गति ॥०३-२३२-१३॥
kiṁ hy abhyadhikam etasmād yad āpannaḥ suyodhanaḥ। tvad-bāhu-balam āśritya jīvitaṁ parimārgati॥03-232-13॥
[किं (kiṁ) - what; हि (hi) - indeed; अभ्यधिकम् (abhyadhikam) - superior; एतस्मात् (etasmāt) - than this; यत् (yat) - that; आपन्नः (āpannaḥ) - fallen into (trouble); सुयोधनः (suyodhanaḥ) - Suyodhana (proper noun; another name for Duryodhana); त्वत् (tvat) - your; बाहुबलम् (bāhu-balam) - arm-strength; आश्रित्य (āśritya) - relying upon; जीवितम् (jīvitam) - life; परिमार्गति (parimārgati) - seeks;]
(What indeed is greater than this? That Suyodhana, fallen (into trouble), relying upon your arm-strength, seeks (after) life.)
What could be greater than this, that Suyodhana, having fallen into difficulty, seeks his life relying on your strength of arms? (03-232-13)
स्वयमेव प्रधावेयं यदि न स्याद्वृकोदर। विततोऽयं क्रतुर्वीर न हि मेऽत्र विचारणा ॥०३-२३२-१४॥
svayameva pradhāveyaṁ yadi na syād vṛkodara। vitato'yaṁ kratur vīra na hi me'tra vicāraṇā ॥03-232-14॥
[स्वयमेव (svayameva) - by myself alone; प्रधावेयम् (pradhāveyam) - I would run forth; यदि (yadi) - if; न (na) - not; स्यात् (syāt) - were (it) so; वृकोदर (vṛkodara) - Vṛkodara (O wolf-bellied one/Bhīma); विततः (vitataḥ) - is extended; अयम् (ayam) - this; क्रतुः (kratuḥ) - sacrifice; वीर (vīra) - O hero; न (na) - not; हि (hi) - indeed; मे (me) - to me; अत्र (atra) - here; विचारणा (vicāraṇā) - deliberation; ॥०३-२३२-१४॥ (॥03-232-14॥) -;]
(By myself alone I would run forth, if it were not so, O Vṛkodara; this sacrifice is extended, O hero, indeed for me here there is not deliberation.)
O Vṛkodara, if it were not so, I would indeed go forth alone; this sacrifice is already commenced, O hero, for I have no further deliberation here. (03-232-14)
साम्नैव तु यथा भीम मोक्षयेथाः सुयोधनम्। तथा सर्वैरुपायैस्त्वं यतेथाः कुरुनन्दन ॥०३-२३२-१५॥
sāmnaiva tu yathā bhīma mokṣayethāḥ suyodhanam। tathā sarvairupāyaistvaṃ yatethāḥ kurunandana ॥03-232-15॥
[साम्नैव (sāmnaiva) - by conciliation alone; तु (tu) - but; यथा (yathā) - as; भीम (bhīma) - Bhīma (proper noun); मोक्षयेथाः (mokṣayethāḥ) - you might release; सुयोधनम् (suyodhanam) - Suyodhana (proper noun, accusative singular); तथा (tathā) - so; सर्वैः (sarvaiḥ) - by all; उपायैः (upāyaiḥ) - means; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; यतेथाः (yatethāḥ) - you should endeavor; कुरुनन्दन (kurunandana) - Kuru-nandana (delight of the Kurus, proper noun, vocative);]
(But, Bhīma, as by conciliation alone you might release Suyodhana, so by all means you should endeavor, O Kurunandana.)
But, Bhīma, just as you might release Suyodhana by conciliation alone, so also, O delight of the Kurus, you should strive by every possible means. (03-232-15)
न साम्ना प्रतिपद्येत यदि गन्धर्वराडसौ। पराक्रमेण मृदुना मोक्षयेथाः सुयोधनम् ॥०३-२३२-१६॥
na sāmnā pratipadyeta yadi gandharvarāḍasau. parākrameṇa mṛdunā mokṣayethāḥ suyodhanam ॥03-232-16॥
[न (na) - not; साम्ना (sāmnā) - by conciliation; प्रतिपद्येत (pratipadyeta) - should accept; यदि (yadi) - if; गन्धर्वराट् (gandharvarāṭ) - the king of the Gandharvas; असौ (asau) - he; पराक्रमेण (parākrameṇa) - by prowess; मृदुना (mṛdunā) - with gentleness; मोक्षयेथाः (mokṣayethāḥ) - you should release; सुयोधनम् (suyodhanam) - Suyodhana;]
(Not by conciliation should accept if the king of the Gandharvas he. By prowess with gentleness you should release Suyodhana.)
If the king of the Gandharvas does not yield to conciliation, then you should gently and valiantly release Suyodhana. (03-232-16)
अथासौ मृदुयुद्धेन न मुञ्चेद्भीम कौरवान्। सर्वोपायैर्विमोच्यास्ते निगृह्य परिपन्थिनः ॥०३-२३२-१७॥
athāsau mṛduyuddhena na muñcedbhīma kauravān। sarvopāyairvimocyāste nigṛhya paripaṅthinaḥ ॥03-232-17॥
[अथ (atha) - now; then; असौ (asau) - he; मृदुयुद्धेन (mṛdu-yuddhena) - with gentle fight; with mild battle; न (na) - not; मुञ्चेत् (muñcet) - should let go; should release; भीम (bhīma) - Bhīma; (proper noun); कौरवान् (kauravān) - the Kauravas; (proper noun, accusative plural); सर्वोपायैः (sarva-upāyaiḥ) - by all means; with every method; विमोच्याः (vimocyāḥ) - should be released; ought to be set free; ते (te) - they; those; निगृह्य (nigṛhya) - having seized; having restrained; परिपन्थिनः (paripaṅthinaḥ) - enemies; adversaries;]
(Now, he should not let Bhīma free the Kauravas by gentle fight. Those enemies, having been seized, should be released by all means.)
Therefore, he should not allow Bhīma to release the Kauravas by mild battle; having captured those adversaries, they should be set free only by every possible means. (03-232-17)
एतावद्धि मया शक्यं संदेष्टुं वै वृकोदर। वैताने कर्मणि तते वर्तमाने च भारत ॥०३-२३२-१८॥
etāvad dhi mayā śakyaṁ saṁdeṣṭuṁ vai vṛkodara। vaitāne karmaṇi tate vartamāne ca bhārata ॥03-232-18॥
[एतावत् (etāvat) - so much; so far; as much as this; हि (hi) - indeed; certainly; मया (mayā) - by me; शक्यं (śakyaṁ) - possible; able; संदेष्टुं (saṁdeṣṭuṁ) - to be accomplished; to be instructed; वै (vai) - indeed; truly; वृकोदर (vṛkodara) - Vṛkodara; (epithet of Bhīma;) वैताने (vaitāne) - in the sacrifice; (vaitāna = relating to sacrificial ritual;) कर्मणि (karmaṇi) - in the act; in the action; तते (tate) - in that; (locative singular of tat;) वर्तमाने (vartamāne) - while existing; ongoing; present; च (ca) - and; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata; descendant of Bharata;]
(So much indeed by me is possible to be accomplished, indeed, O Vṛkodara, in the sacrifice, in that act, while it is ongoing, and O Bhārata.)
O Vṛkodara, this much indeed can be done by me in the performance of this sacrifice while it is ongoing, O Bhārata. (03-232-18)
वैशम्पायन उवाच॥

अजातशत्रोर्वचनं तच्छ्रुत्वा तु धनञ्जयः। प्रतिजज्ञे गुरोर्वाक्यं कौरवाणां विमोक्षणम् ॥०३-२३२-१९॥
ajātaśatroḥ vacanaṁ tat śrutvā tu dhanañjayaḥ। pratijajñe guror vākyam kauravāṇāṁ vimokṣaṇam ॥03-232-19॥
[अजातशत्रोः (ajātaśatroḥ) - of Ajātaśatru (Yudhiṣṭhira); वचनं (vacanam) - word; तत् (tat) - that; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; तु (tu) - but; धनञ्जयः (dhanañjayaḥ) - Dhanañjaya (Arjuna); प्रतिजज्ञे (pratijajñe) - promised; गुरोः (guror) - of the guru (preceptor); वाक्यं (vākyam) - command; कौरवाणाम् (kauravāṇām) - of the Kauravas; विमोक्षणम् (vimokṣaṇam) - release;]
(Of Ajātaśatru (Yudhiṣṭhira), the word — that having heard, but Dhanañjaya (Arjuna) promised the guru's command, the release of the Kauravas.)
Having heard the words of Ajātaśatru (Yudhiṣṭhira), Dhanañjaya (Arjuna) promised to fulfill the guru’s command to release the Kauravas. (03-232-19)

यदि साम्ना न मोक्ष्यन्ति गन्धर्वा धृतराष्ट्रजान्। अद्य गन्धर्वराजस्य भूमिः पास्यति शोणितम् ॥०३-२३२-२०॥
yadi sāmnā na mokṣyanti gandharvā dhṛtarāṣṭrajān। adya gandharvarājasya bhūmiḥ pāsyati śoṇitam ॥03-232-20॥
[यदि (yadi) - if; साम्ना (sāmnā) - with conciliation; न (na) - not; मोक्ष्यन्ति (mokṣyanti) - will release; गन्धर्वाः (gandharvāḥ) - Gandharvas; धृतराष्ट्रजान् (dhṛtarāṣṭrajān) - the sons of Dhritarashtra; अद्य (adya) - today; गन्धर्वराजस्य (gandharvarājasya) - of the king of the Gandharvas; भूमिः (bhūmiḥ) - the ground; पास्यति (pāsyati) - will drink; शोणितम् (śoṇitam) - blood;]
(If with conciliation not will release Gandharvas the sons of Dhritarashtra, today of the king of the Gandharvas the ground will drink blood.)
If the Gandharvas do not release the sons of Dhritarashtra through conciliation, today the earth belonging to the king of the Gandharvas will drink blood. (03-232-20)
वैशम्पायन उवाच॥

अर्जुनस्य तु तां श्रुत्वा प्रतिज्ञां सत्यवादिनः। कौरवाणां तदा राजन्पुनः प्रत्यागतं मनः ॥०३-२३२-२१॥
arjunasya tu tāṃ śrutvā pratijñāṃ satyavādinaḥ। kauravāṇāṃ tadā rājan punaḥ pratyāgataṃ manaḥ॥03-232-21॥
[अर्जुनस्य (arjunasya) - of Arjuna; तु (tu) - but; तां (tāṃ) - that; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; प्रतिज्ञां (pratijñām) - vow; सत्यवादिनः (satyavādinaḥ) - of the truthful one; कौरवाणां (kauravāṇām) - of the Kauravas; तदा (tadā) - then; राजन् (rājan) - O king; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; प्रत्यागतं (pratyāgatam) - returned; मनः (manaḥ) - mind;]
(But having heard that vow of the truthful Arjuna, then, O king, the mind of the Kauravas again returned.)
But, O king, on hearing that vow of truthful Arjuna, the mind of the Kauravas was restored again. (03-232-21)
