prāyopaviṣṭaṃ rājānaṃ duryodhanam amarṣaṇam। uvāca sāntvayan rājañ śakuniḥ saubalas tadā ॥03-239-1॥

सम्यगुक्तं हि कर्णेन तच्छ्रुतं कौरव त्वया। मयाहृतां श्रियं स्फीतां मोहात्समपहाय किम् ॥ त्वमबुद्ध्या नृपवर प्राणानुत्स्रष्टुमिच्छसि ॥०३-२३९-२॥
samyaguktaṃ hi karṇena tacchrutaṃ kaurava tvayā। mayāhṛtāṃ śriyaṃ sphītāṃ mohātsamapahāya kim॥ tvamabuddhyā nṛpavara prāṇānutsraṣṭumicchasi॥03-239-2॥

(Appropriately spoken indeed by Karṇa, that has been heard by you, O Kaurava. Why, having completely abandoned the abundant prosperity brought by me, out of delusion, you, out of ignorance, best of kings, wish to abandon your life-breaths? (03-239-2))
What Karṇa said is indeed appropriate, and you have heard it, O Kaurava. Why do you, deluded, completely abandon the abundant prosperity I have won for you? Out of ignorance, O best of kings, do you wish to give up your life? (03-239-2)
अद्य चाप्यवगच्छामि न वृद्धाः सेवितास्त्वया। यः समुत्पतितं हर्षं दैन्यं वा न नियच्छति ॥ स नश्यति श्रियं प्राप्य पात्रमाममिवाम्भसि ॥०३-२३९-३॥
adya cāpyavagacchāmi na vṛddhāḥ sevitāstvayā। yaḥ samutpatitaṃ harṣaṃ dainyaṃ vā na niyacchati॥ sa naśyati śriyaṃ prāpya pātram āmam ivāmbhasi॥03-239-3॥

(Today and also I understand, not elders attended by you. He who arisen joy or distress not restrains, he perishes, wealth obtaining, like an unburnt pot in water. (03-239-3))
Today I also perceive that you have not attended to elders. He who does not restrain the joy or distress that arises perishes, even after obtaining wealth, like an unburnt pot in water. (03-239-3)
अतिभीरुमतिक्लीबं दीर्घसूत्रं प्रमादिनम्। व्यसनाद्विषयाक्रान्तं न भजन्ति नृपं श्रियः ॥०३-२३९-४॥
atibhīrumatiklībaṃ dīrghasūtraṃ pramādinam। vyasanādviṣayākrāntaṃ na bhajanti nṛpaṃ śriyaḥ॥03-239-4॥

(Very fearful-minded, impotent, procrastinating, heedless, afflicted by misfortune, overcome by sense-objects, not attend king prosperities.)
Prosperity does not abide with a king who is very fearful-minded, impotent, procrastinating, heedless, afflicted by misfortune, and overcome by sense-objects. (03-239-4)
सत्कृतस्य हि ते शोको विपरीते कथं भवेत्। मा कृतं शोभनं पार्थैः शोकमालम्ब्य नाशय ॥०३-२३९-५॥
satkṛtasya hi te śoko viparīte kathaṃ bhavet। mā kṛtaṃ śobhanaṃ pārthaiḥ śokamālambya nāśaya ॥03-239-5॥
[सत्कृतस्य (satkṛtasya) - of the one who is honored; हि (hi) - indeed; ते (te) - your; शोकः (śokaḥ) - grief; विपरीते (viparīte) - in the opposite case; कथम् (katham) - how; भवेत् (bhavet) - would arise; मा (mā) - do not; कृतं (kṛtaṃ) - done; शोभनं (śobhanaṃ) - good; पार्थैः (pārthaiḥ) - by the Pārthas; शोकमालम्ब्य (śokam ālambya) - taking hold of grief; नाशय (nāśaya) - cause to be destroyed;]
(Of the honored indeed your grief, in the opposite case how would arise? Do not let the good done by the Pārthas, by taking hold of grief, cause to be destroyed.)
Indeed, grief is for one who is honored—how could it arise in the contrary case? Do not let the noble deeds of the Pārthas be destroyed by clinging to grief. (03-239-5)
यत्र हर्षस्त्वया कार्यः सत्कर्तव्याश्च पाण्डवाः। तत्र शोचसि राजेन्द्र विपरीतमिदं तव ॥०३-२३९-६॥
yatra harṣas tvayā kāryaḥ satkartavyāś ca pāṇḍavāḥ। tatra śocasi rājendra viparītam idaṃ tava ॥03-239-6॥
[यत्र (yatra) - where; हर्षः (harṣaḥ) - delight; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; कार्यः (kāryaḥ) - should be done; सत्कर्तव्याः (satkartavyāḥ) - ought to be honored; च (ca) - and; पाण्डवाः (pāṇḍavāḥ) - the Pāṇḍavas; तत्र (tatra) - there; शोचसि (śocasi) - you grieve; राजेन्द्र (rājendra) - O king; विपरीतम् (viparītam) - the opposite; इदं (idaṃ) - this; तव (tava) - your;]
(Where delight by you should be done and the Pāṇḍavas ought to be honored, there you grieve, O king; this is the opposite of your (duty).)
In the very situation where you should show delight and honor the Pāṇḍavas, O king, you grieve instead; this is contrary to what is expected of you. (03-239-6)
प्रसीद मा त्यजात्मानं तुष्टश्च सुकृतं स्मर। प्रयच्छ राज्यं पार्थानां यशो धर्ममवाप्नुहि ॥०३-२३९-७॥
prasīda mā tyajātmānaṃ tuṣṭaś ca sukṛtaṃ smara। prayaccha rājyaṃ pārthānāṃ yaśo dharmam avāpnuhi॥03-239-7॥
[प्रसीद (prasīda) - be gracious; मा (mā) - do not; त्यजात्मानं (tyaja-ātmānam) - abandon (your) self; तुष्टश्च (tuṣṭaḥ ca) - contented and; सुकृतं (sukṛtam) - good deed; स्मर (smara) - remember; प्रयच्छ (prayaccha) - bestow; राज्यं (rājyam) - kingdom; पार्थानां (pārthānām) - of the sons of Pṛthā (the Pāṇḍavas); यशः (yaśaḥ) - fame; धर्मम् (dharmam) - righteousness; अवाप्नुहि (avāpnuhu) - attain;]
(Be gracious; do not abandon yourself; contented also remember the good deed; bestow the kingdom to the sons of Pṛthā; attain fame and righteousness.)
Be gracious, do not lose heart; remain content and remember your good deeds; bestow the kingdom upon the sons of Pṛthā; attain both fame and righteousness. (03-239-7)
क्रियामेतां समाज्ञाय कृतघ्नो न भविष्यसि। सौभ्रात्रं पाण्डवैः कृत्वा समवस्थाप्य चैव तान् ॥ पित्र्यं राज्यं प्रयच्छैषां ततः सुखमवाप्नुहि ॥०३-२३९-८॥
kriyāmetāṃ samājñāya kṛtaghno na bhaviṣyasi। saubhrātraṃ pāṇḍavaiḥ kṛtvā samavasthāpya caiva tān ॥ pitryaṃ rājyaṃ prayacchaiṣāṃ tataḥ sukham avāpnuhi ॥03-239-8॥
[क्रियाम् (kriyām) - action; एताम् (etām) - this; समाज्ञाय (samājñāya) - having understood; कृतघ्नः (kṛtaghnaḥ) - ungrateful; न (na) - not; भविष्यसि (bhaviṣyasi) - you will be; सौभ्रात्रम् (saubhrātram) - brotherly relation; पाण्डवैः (pāṇḍavaiḥ) - with the Pāṇḍavas; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having done; समवस्थाप्य (samavasthāpya) - having established equally; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; तान् (tān) - them; पित्र्यम् (pitryam) - ancestral; राज्यम् (rājyam) - kingdom; प्रयच्छ (prayaccha) - bestow; एषाम् (eṣām) - to these; ततः (tataḥ) - then; सुखम् (sukham) - happiness; अवाप्नुहि (avāpnuhi) - attain;]
(Having understood this action, you will not be ungrateful. Having made brotherly relation with the Pāṇḍavas and having equally established them, bestow their ancestral kingdom to these; then attain happiness.)
Understanding this course of action, you will not become ungrateful. Establish brotherly relations with the Pāṇḍavas, restore them to an equal position, and give them their ancestral kingdom; then you will attain happiness. (03-239-8)
शकुनेस्तु वचः श्रुत्वा दुःशासनमवेक्ष्य च। पादयोः पतितं वीरं विक्लवं भ्रातृसौहृदात् ॥०३-२३९-९॥
śakunes tu vacaḥ śrutvā duḥśāsanam avekṣya ca। pādayoḥ patitaṃ vīraṃ viklavaṃ bhrātṛ-sauhṛdāt ॥03-239-9॥
[शकुनेः (śakuneḥ) - of Śakuni; (possessive/genitive of Śakuni); तु (tu) - but; however; वचः (vacaḥ) - word; speech; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; दुःशासनम् (duḥśāsanam) - Duḥśāsana; (proper noun, accusative singular); अवेक्ष्य (avekṣya) - having looked (at); च (ca) - and; पादयोः (pādayoḥ) - at the feet; (locative dual); पतितं (patitaṃ) - having fallen; वीरं (vīraṃ) - hero; (accusative singular); विक्लवं (viklavaṃ) - distressed; agitated; भ्रातृसौहृदात् (bhrātṛ-sauhṛdāt) - out of brotherly affection;]
(But having heard the words of Śakuni and having seen Duḥśāsana, at the feet, having fallen, the distressed hero, out of brotherly affection.)
But when he heard Śakuni's words and saw Duḥśāsana, the hero, out of brotherly affection, fell at his feet in distress. (03-239-9)
बाहुभ्यां साधुजाताभ्यां दुःशासनमरिंदमम्। उत्थाप्य सम्परिष्वज्य प्रीत्याजिघ्रत मूर्धनि ॥०३-२३९-१०॥
bāhubhyāṃ sādhujātābhyāṃ duḥśāsanam ariṃ-damam। utthāpya sampariṣvajya prītyā ājighrata mūrdhani ॥03-239-10॥

कर्णसौबलयोश्चापि संस्मृत्य वचनान्यसौ। निर्वेदं परमं गत्वा राजा दुर्योधनस्तदा ॥ व्रीडयाभिपरीतात्मा नैराश्यमगमत्परम् ॥०३-२३९-११॥
karṇasaubalayoścāpi saṁsmṛtya vacanānyasau। nirvedaṁ paramaṁ gatvā rājā duryodhanastadā ॥ vrīḍayābhiparītātmā nairāśyamagamatt param ॥03-239-11॥

सुहृदां चैव तच्छ्रुत्वा समन्युरिदमब्रवीत्। न धर्मधनसौख्येन नैश्वर्येण न चाज्ञया ॥ नैव भोगैश्च मे कार्यं मा विहन्यत गच्छत ॥०३-२३९-१२॥
suhṛdāṃ caiva tacchrutvā saman yuridam abravīt। na dharmadhanasaukh yena naiśvaryeṇa na cājñayā ॥ naiva bhogaiś ca me kāryaṃ mā vihanyata gacchata ॥03-239-12॥

(Of the friends and indeed that having heard, with anger this he said. Not by righteousness, wealth, happiness, not by sovereignty, not by command. Not indeed with enjoyments and for me business; do not be destroyed; go.)
Having heard that even from the friends, he, being angry, said this: "Neither for righteousness, wealth, happiness, nor for sovereignty, nor by command, nor for enjoyments, do I have any work. Do not obstruct—go." (03-239-12)
निश्चितेयं मम मतिः स्थिता प्रायोपवेशने। गच्छध्वं नगरं सर्वे पूज्याश्च गुरवो मम ॥०३-२३९-१३॥
niściteyaṁ mama matiḥ sthitā prāyopaveśane। gacchadhvaṁ nagaraṁ sarve pūjyāś ca guravo mama ॥03-239-13॥
[निश्चितेयं (niścitā iyam) - determined this; मम (mama) - my; मतिः (matiḥ) - resolve; स्थिताः (sthitā) - established; प्रायोपवेशने (prāyopaveśane) - in fasting unto death; गच्छध्वं (gacchadhvam) - go (you all); नगरं (nagaram) - city; सर्वे (sarve) - all; पूज्याः (pūjyāḥ) - revered ones; च (ca) - and; गुरवः (guravaḥ) - teachers; मम (mama) - my;]

त एवमुक्ताः प्रत्यूचू राजानमरिमर्दनम्। या गतिस्तव राजेन्द्र सास्माकमपि भारत ॥ कथं वा सम्प्रवेक्ष्यामस्त्वद्विहीनाः पुरं वयम् ॥०३-२३९-१४॥
ta evam-uktāḥ pratyūcū rājānam-arimardanam। yā gatis-tava rājendra sāsmākam-api bhārata॥ kathaṁ vā sampravekṣyāmas-tvad-vihīnāḥ puraṁ vayam॥03-239-14॥

(They thus addressed, replied to the king, the enemy-subduer: "Whatever is your course, O king, that is ours also, O Bhārata. How, moreover, shall we, bereft of you, enter the city?" (03-239-14))

दर्भप्रस्तरमास्तीर्य निश्चयाद्धृतराष्ट्रजः। संस्पृश्यापः शुचिर्भूत्वा भूतलं समुपाश्रितः ॥०३-२३९-१६॥
darbha-prastaram āstīrya niścayād dhṛtarāṣṭra-jaḥ। saṃspṛśyāpaḥ śucir bhūtvā bhū-talam sam-upāśritaḥ ॥03-239-16॥

अथ तं निश्चयं तस्य बुद्ध्वा दैतेयदानवाः। पातालवासिनो रौद्राः पूर्वं देवैर्विनिर्जिताः ॥०३-२३९-१८॥
atha taṃ niścayaṃ tasya budhvā daiteya-dānavāḥ। pātāla-vāsino raudrāḥ pūrvaṃ devair vinirjitāḥ॥03-239-18॥
[अथ (atha) - then; तं (taṃ) - that; निश्चयं (niścayaṃ) - decision; तस्य (tasya) - his; बुद्ध्वा (budhvā) - having understood; दैतेयदानवाः (daiteya-dānavāḥ) - Daityas and Dānavas (descendants of Diti and Danu); पातालवासिनः (pātāla-vāsinaḥ) - inhabitants of the netherworld; रौद्राः (raudrāḥ) - fierce; पूर्वं (pūrvaṃ) - formerly; देवैः (devaiḥ) - by the gods; विनिर्जिताः (vinirjitāḥ) - conquered;]
(Then that decision his having understood Daityas and Dānavas, netherworld-inhabitants, fierce, formerly by the gods conquered.)
Then, having understood his decision, the Daityas and Dānavas—fierce inhabitants of the netherworld, who were formerly conquered by the gods—(acted thus). (03-239-18)
ते स्वपक्षक्षयं तं तु ज्ञात्वा दुर्योधनस्य वै। आह्वानाय तदा चक्रुः कर्म वैतानसम्भवम् ॥०३-२३९-१९॥
te svapakṣakṣayaṃ taṃ tu jñātvā duryodhanasya vai. āhvānāya tadā cakruḥ karma vaitānasambhavam ॥03-239-19॥
[ते (te) - they; स्वपक्षक्षयं (svapakṣakṣayam) - their-own-side destruction; तं (taṃ) - that; तु (tu) - but; ज्ञात्वा (jñātvā) - having known; दुर्योधनस्य (duryodhanasya) - of Duryodhana; वै (vai) - indeed; आह्वानाय (āhvānāya) - for summoning; तदा (tadā) - then; चक्रुः (cakruḥ) - they did; कर्म (karma) - act; वैतानसम्भवम् (vaitānasambhavam) - arising from vaitāna (Vedic ritual);]
(They, their own side's destruction that but having known of Duryodhana indeed, for summoning then did act arising from vaitāna.)
They, having known of Duryodhana's destruction of their own side, then indeed performed an act arising from the Vaitāna (Vedic) ritual for summoning. (03-239-19)
बृहस्पत्युशनोक्तैश्च मन्त्रैर्मन्त्रविशारदाः। अथर्ववेदप्रोक्तैश्च याश्चोपनिषदि क्रियाः ॥ मन्त्रजप्यसमायुक्तास्तास्तदा समवर्तयन् ॥०३-२३९-२०॥
bṛhaspatyuśanoktaiś ca mantrair mantraviśāradāḥ। atharvavedaproktaiś ca yāś copaniṣadi kriyāḥ॥ mantrajapyasamāyuktās tās tadā samavartayan॥03-239-20॥
[बृहस्पत्युशनोक्तैः (bṛhaspatyuśanoktaiḥ) - by those spoken by Bṛhaspati and Uśanas; च (ca) - and; मन्त्रैः (mantraiḥ) - by mantras; मन्त्रविशारदाः (mantraviśāradāḥ) - experts in mantras; अथर्ववेदप्रोक्तैः (atharvavedaproktaiḥ) - by those declared in the Atharvaveda; च (ca) - and; याः (yāḥ) - which; च (ca) - and; उपनिषदि (upaniṣadi) - in the Upanishad; क्रियाः (kriyāḥ) - rites; मन्त्रजप्यसमायुक्ताः (mantrajapyasamāyuktāḥ) - not accompanied by mantra-recitation; ताः (tāḥ) - those; तदा (tadā) - then; समवर्तयन् (samavartayan) - they performed;]
(Experts in mantras, by mantras uttered by Bṛhaspati and Uśanas and by those declared in the Atharvaveda, and the rites which are in the Upanishad, those not accompanied by mantra-recitation, those they then performed.)
The experts in mantras performed the rites described by Bṛhaspati and Uśanas, as well as those set forth in the Atharvaveda and in the Upanishad, even those not accompanied by mantra-recitation, at that time. (03-239-20)
जुह्वत्यग्नौ हविः क्षीरं मन्त्रवत्सुसमाहिताः। ब्राह्मणा वेदवेदाङ्गपारगाः सुदृढव्रताः ॥०३-२३९-२१॥
juhvaty-agnau haviḥ kṣīraṃ mantravat-susamāhitāḥ. brāhmaṇā vedavedaṅgapāragāḥ sudṛḍhavratāḥ ॥03-239-21॥
[जुह्वति (juhvati) - they offer; अग्नौ (agnau) - in the fire; हविः (haviḥ) - oblation; क्षीरं (kṣīraṃ) - milk; मन्त्रवत् (mantravat) - with mantras; सुसमाहिताः (susamāhitāḥ) - well-composed; ब्राह्मणाः (brāhmaṇāḥ) - Brāhmaṇas; वेदवेदाङ्गपारगाः (vedavedaṅgapāragāḥ) - versed in Veda and Vedāṅgas; सुदृढव्रताः (sudṛḍhavratāḥ) - of very firm vows;]
(They offer into the fire the oblation of milk with mantras, well-composed. Brāhmaṇas versed in the Veda and Vedāṅgas, of very firm vows.)
The Brāhmaṇas, well-settled in mind, steadfast in their vows and accomplished in the Veda and Vedāṅgas, offer oblations of milk into the fire with proper mantras. (03-239-21)
कर्मसिद्धौ तदा तत्र जृम्भमाणा महाद्भुता। कृत्या समुत्थिता राजन्किं करोमीति चाब्रवीत् ॥०३-२३९-२२॥
karmasiddhau tadā tatra jṛmbhamāṇā mahādbhutā. kṛtyā samutthitā rājan kiṃ karomīti cābravīt ॥03-239-22॥
[कर्मसिद्धौ (karmasiddhau) - upon completion of the act; तदा (tadā) - then; तत्र (tatra) - there; जृम्भमाणा (jṛmbhamāṇā) - expanding; महाद्भुता (mahādbhutā) - most wonderful; कृत्या (kṛtyā) - the magical being; समुत्थिता (samutthitā) - arisen; राजन् (rājan) - O king; किं (kiṃ) - what; करोमि (karomi) - shall I do; इति (iti) - thus; च (ca) - and; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - she said;]
(Upon completion of the act, then there, expanding and most wonderful, the magical being arisen, O king, "What shall I do?" thus and she said.)
O king, when the act was completed, there arose an expanding and most wonderful magical being, who said, "What shall I do?" (03-239-22)
आहुर्दैत्याश्च तां तत्र सुप्रीतेनान्तरात्मना। प्रायोपविष्टं राजानं धार्तराष्ट्रमिहानय ॥०३-२३९-२३॥
āhur daityāś ca tāṃ tatra suprītenāntarātmanā। prāyopaviṣṭaṃ rājānaṃ dhārtarāṣṭram ihānaya॥03-239-23॥
[आहुः (āhuḥ) - they said; दैत्याः (daityāḥ) - the daityas; (a class of asuras/demons); च (ca) - and; तां (tāṃ) - her; (accusative singular, feminine) तत्र (tatra) - there; सुप्रीतेन (suprītena) - with great pleasure; अन्तरात्मना (antarātmanā) - with the inner self; प्रायोपविष्टं (prāyopaviṣṭam) - who had sat for fasting unto death; राजानं (rājānam) - the king; धार्तराष्ट्रम् (dhārtarāṣṭram) - Dhritarashtra; (son of Dhritarashtra / descendent of Dhritarashtra) इह (iha) - here; अनय (ānaya) - bring;]
(They said the daityas and her there with very pleased inner self bring the king Dhritarashtra, who has undertaken a fast unto death, here.)
The daityas also, with a very pleased heart, said there: "Bring here King Dhritarashtra who has undertaken a fast unto death." (03-239-23)
तथेति च प्रतिश्रुत्य सा कृत्या प्रययौ तदा। निमेषादगमच्चापि यत्र राजा सुयोधनः ॥०३-२३९-२४॥
tatheti ca pratiśrutya sā kṛtyā prayayau tadā. nimeṣād agamac cāpi yatra rājā suyodhanaḥ ॥03-239-24॥
[तथ (tath) - so; (thus;) इति (iti) - thus; (in this manner;) च (ca) - and; प्रतिश्रुत्य (pratiśrutya) - having promised; (having agreed;) सा (sā) - she; कृत्या (kṛtyā) - Kṛtyā (a supernatural being; here: the magical emissary;) प्रययौ (prayayau) - departed; (went;) तदा (tadā) - then; निमेषात् (nimeṣāt) - in the blink (of an eye); अगमच्छ (agamaccha) - she went; (she reached;) अपि (api) - also; यत्र (yatra) - where; राजा (rājā) - the king; सुयोधनः (suyodhanaḥ) - Suyodhana (proper name);]
(So, thus having promised, she, Kṛtyā, departed then. In the blink (of an eye), she also went where the king Suyodhana (was).)
Then, having thus promised, Kṛtyā departed. In the blink of an eye, she reached where King Suyodhana was. (03-239-24)
समादाय च राजानं प्रविवेश रसातलम्। दानवानां मुहूर्ताच्च तमानीतं न्यवेदयत् ॥०३-२३९-२५॥
samādāya ca rājānaṃ praviiveśa rasātalam| dānavānāṃ muhūrtācc tam ānītaṃ nyavedayat॥03-239-25॥
[समादाय (samādāya) - having taken; च (ca) - and; राजानम् (rājānam) - the king; प्रविवेश (praviiveśa) - entered; रसातलम् (rasātalam) - the netherworld; दानवानाम् (dānavānām) - of the Dānavas (demons); मुहूर्तात् (muhūrtāt) - after a moment; च (ca) - and; तम् (tam) - him; आनीतम् (ānītam) - brought; न्यवेदयत् (nyavedayat) - announced;]
(Having taken the king and entered the netherworld, and after a moment, to the Dānavas, him brought (he) announced.)
After taking the king, he entered the netherworld, and after a moment, announced to the Dānavas that he had brought him. (03-239-25)
तमानीतं नृपं दृष्ट्वा रात्रौ संहत्य दानवाः। प्रहृष्टमनसः सर्वे किञ्चिदुत्फुल्ललोचनाः ॥ साभिमानमिदं वाक्यं दुर्योधनमथाब्रुवन् ॥०३-२३९-२६॥
tamānītaṃ nṛpaṃ dṛṣṭvā rātrau saṃhatya dānavāḥ। prahṛṣṭamanasaḥ sarve kiñcidutphullalocanāḥ॥ sābhimānam idaṃ vākyaṃ duryodhanam athābruvan॥03-239-26॥
[तमानीतं (tam ānītam) - that (tam); brought (ānītam); नृपं (nṛpam) - king; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; रात्रौ (rātrau) - at night; संहत्य (saṃhatya) - having gathered; दानवाः (dānavāḥ) - the Dānavas; प्रहृष्टमनसः (prahṛṣṭamanasaḥ) - with delighted minds; सर्वे (sarve) - all; किञ्चिदुत्फुल्ललोचनाः (kiñcid utphulla-locanāḥ) - somewhat expanded eyes; साभिमानम् (sābhimānam) - with pride; इदं (idaṃ) - this; वाक्यम् (vākyam) - speech; दुर्योधनम् (duryodhanam) - to Duryodhana; अथ (atha) - then; अब्रुवन् (abravan) - they said;]
(Having seen that king brought (there) at night, having gathered, the Dānavas, all with delighted minds, with somewhat expanded eyes, with pride, this speech to Duryodhana then they said.)
Having brought that king there and seeing him at night, the Dānavas, all with delighted minds and slightly widened eyes, gathered together. Then, with pride, they spoke these words to Duryodhana. (03-239-26)
