praviśantaṃ mahārāja sūtāstuṣṭuvuracyutam। janāścāpi maheṣvāsaṃ tuṣṭuvū rajasattamam ॥03-243-1॥
[प्रविशन्तं (praviśantam) - entering; महाराज (mahārāja) - O great king; सूताः (sūtāḥ) - charioteers; तुष्टुवुः (tuṣṭuvuḥ) - praised; अच्युतम् (acyutam) - Acyuta (the infallible one, i.e., Krishna); जनाः (janāḥ) - people; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; महेष्वासम् (maheṣvāsam) - the mighty archer; तुष्टुवुः (tuṣṭuvuḥ) - praised; राजसत्तमम् (rajasattamam) - the best among kings;]
(Entering, O great king, the charioteers praised Acyuta. The people also praised the mighty archer, the best among kings.)
As he was entering, O great king, the charioteers praised Acyuta, and the people also praised the mighty archer, the foremost among kings. (03-243-1)
लाजैश्चन्दनचूर्णैश्चाप्यवकीर्य जनास्तदा। ऊचुर्दिष्ट्या नृपाविघ्नात्समाप्तोऽयं क्रतुस्तव ॥०३-२४३-२॥
lājaiś candanacūrṇaiś cāpy avakīrya janās tadā। ūcur diṣṭyā nṛpa avighnāt samāptaḥ ayaṁ kratuḥ tava॥03-243-2॥
[लाजैः (lājaiḥ) - with parched grains; चन्दनचूर्णैः (candanacūrṇaiḥ) - with sandalwood powders; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; अवकीर्य (avakīrya) - having sprinkled; जनाः (janāḥ) - people; तदा (tadā) - then; ऊचुः (ūcuḥ) - said; दिष्ट्या (diṣṭyā) - by fortune; नृप (nṛpa) - O king; अविघ्नात् (avighnāt) - without obstacle; समाप्तः (samāptaḥ) - completed; अयम् (ayam) - this; क्रतुः (kratuḥ) - sacrifice; तव (tava) - of yours;]
(With parched grains and sandalwood powders and also having sprinkled, the people then said, 'By fortune, O king, without obstacle, completed this sacrifice of yours.')
Having sprinkled parched grains and sandalwood powders, the people then said, 'O king, by good fortune, this sacrifice of yours is completed without obstacle.' (03-243-2)
अपरे त्वब्रुवंस्तत्र वातिकास्तं महीपतिम्। युधिष्ठिरस्य यज्ञेन न समो ह्येष तु क्रतुः ॥ नैव तस्य क्रतोरेष कलामर्हति षोडशीम् ॥०३-२४३-३॥
apare tv abruvaṁs tatra vātikās taṁ mahīpatim। yudhiṣṭhirasya yajñena na samo hyeṣa tu kratuḥ॥ naiva tasya krator eṣa kalām arhati ṣoḍaśīm॥03-243-3॥
[अपरे (apare) - others; त्व (tv) - but; indeed; अब्रुवंस् (abruvaṁs) - said; तत्र (tatra) - there; वातिकाः (vātikāḥ) - Brahmins of the Vāta lineage; तम् (tam) - to him; महीपतिम् (mahīpatim) - the king; युधिष्ठिरस्य (yudhiṣṭhirasya) - of Yudhiṣṭhira; यज्ञेन (yajñena) - with the sacrifice; न (na) - not; समः (samaḥ) - equal; हि (hi) - indeed; एष (eṣa) - this; तु (tu) - but; क्रतुः (kratuḥ) - sacrifice; नैव (naiva) - not even; तस्य (tasya) - of that; क्रतुः (kratuḥ) - sacrifice; एष (eṣa) - this; कलाम् (kalām) - a sixteenth part; अर्हति (arhati) - deserves; षोडशीम् (ṣoḍaśīm) - the sixteenth; ०३-२४३-३ (03-243-3) - (3-243-3);]
(Others, but, said there, the Vātika Brahmins to that king: 'To Yudhiṣṭhira's sacrifice, not equal indeed is this sacrifice. Not even of that sacrifice does this one deserve the sixteenth part.' (03-243-3))
However, others—the Vātika Brahmins—said to the king there: 'This sacrifice is in no way equal to the sacrifice of Yudhiṣṭhira. Truly, this sacrifice does not even deserve the sixteenth part of his.' (03-243-3)
एवं तत्राब्रुवन्केचिद्वातिकास्तं नरेश्वरम्। सुहृदस्त्वब्रुवंस्तत्र अति सर्वानयं क्रतुः ॥०३-२४३-४॥
evaṁ tatrābruvanke cid vātikās taṁ nareśvaram। suhṛdas tv abruvaṁs tatra ati sarvān ayaṁ kratuḥ ॥03-243-4॥
[एवं (evaṁ) - thus; तत्र (tatra) - there; अब्रुवन् (abruvan) - spoke; केचित् (kecit) - some; वातिकाः (vātikāḥ) - those opposed; तम् (tam) - to him; नरेश्वरम् (nareśvaram) - king of men; सुहृदः (suhṛdaḥ) - friends; तु (tu) - but; अब्रुवन्स् (abruvans) - spoke; तत्र (tatra) - there; अति (ati) - exceeds; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; अयम् (ayam) - this; क्रतुः (kratuḥ) - sacrifice;]
(Thus there some opposed spoke to the king of men. The friends but spoke there: this sacrifice exceeds all.)
Thus, there some of the opposed spoke to the king of men. But the friends said there, "This sacrifice surpasses all others." (03-243-4)
ययातिर्नहुषश्चापि मान्धाता भरतस्तथा। क्रतुमेनं समाहृत्य पूताः सर्वे दिवं गताः ॥०३-२४३-५॥
yayātir-nahuṣaś-cāpi mândhātā bharatas-tathā। kratum-enam samāhṛtya pūtāḥ sarve divaṃ gatāḥ ॥03-243-5॥

(Yayāti, Nahuṣa and also Māndhātā, Bharata likewise, this sacrifice having performed, purified, all, heaven went.)
Yayāti, Nahuṣa, Māndhātā, and likewise Bharata—all of them, having performed this sacrifice and thus purified, went to heaven. (03-243-5)
एता वाचः शुभाः शृण्वन्सुहृदां भरतर्षभ। प्रविवेश पुरं हृष्टः स्ववेश्म च नराधिपः ॥०३-२४३-६॥
etā vācaḥ śubhāḥ śṛṇvan suhṛdāṃ bharatarṣabha. praviveśa puraṃ hṛṣṭaḥ svaveśma ca narādhipaḥ ॥03-243-6॥

Hearing these auspicious words of his friends, O bull among the Bharatas, the king gladly entered the city and his own house. (03-243-6)
अभिवाद्य ततः पादौ मातापित्रोर्विशां पते। भीष्मद्रोणकृपाणां च विदुरस्य च धीमतः ॥०३-२४३-७॥
abhivādya tataḥ pādau mātāpitror viśāṃ pate। bhīṣma-droṇa-kṛpāṇāṃ ca vidurasya ca dhīmataḥ ॥03-243-7॥

अभिवादितः कनीयोभिर्भ्रातृभिर्भ्रातृवत्सलः। निषसादासने मुख्ये भ्रातृभिः परिवारितः ॥०३-२४३-८॥
abhivāditaḥ kanīyobhīrbhrātṛbhirbhrātṛvatsalaḥ। niṣasādāsane mukhye bhrātṛbhiḥ parivāritaḥ॥03-243-8॥

(Having been saluted by the younger brothers, the one loving brothers sat down on the principal seat, surrounded by brothers.)

तमुत्थाय महाराज सूतपुत्रोऽब्रवीद्वचः। दिष्ट्या ते भरतश्रेष्ठ समाप्तोऽयं महाक्रतुः ॥०३-२४३-९॥
tam utthāya mahārāja sūtaputro 'bravīd vacaḥ। diṣṭyā te bharataśreṣṭha samāpto 'yaṃ mahākratuḥ ॥03-243-9॥
[तम् (tam) - him; उत्थाय (utthāya) - having risen; महाराज (mahārāja) - O great king; सूतपुत्रः (sūtaputraḥ) - the son of the charioteer; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke; वचः (vacaḥ) - words; दिष्ट्या (diṣṭyā) - by fortune; ते (te) - your; भरतश्रेष्ठ (bharataśreṣṭha) - O best of the Bharatas; समाप्तः (samāptaḥ) - completed; अयम् (ayam) - this; महाक्रतुः (mahākratuḥ) - great sacrifice;]
(Him having risen, O great king, the son of the charioteer spoke words: "By fortune, your, O best of the Bharatas, this great sacrifice is completed." (03-243-9))
Having risen, O great king, the son of the charioteer said: "Fortunately, O best of the Bharatas, this great sacrifice of yours has been completed." (03-243-9)
हतेषु युधि पार्थेषु राजसूये तथा त्वया। आहृतेऽहं नरश्रेष्ठ त्वां सभाजयिता पुनः ॥०३-२४३-१०॥
hateṣu yudhi pārtheṣu rājasūye tathā tvayā. āhṛte'haṃ naraśreṣṭha tvāṃ sabhājayitā punaḥ ॥03-243-10॥
[हतेषु (hateṣu) - when slain; (in reference to being destroyed); युधि (yudhi) - in battle; पार्थेषु (pārtheṣu) - among the sons of Pṛthā (Pāṇḍavas); राजसूये (rājasūye) - at the rājasūya sacrifice; तथा (tathā) - so; in that way; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; आहृते (āhṛte) - when brought; (to here); अहम् (aham) - I; नरश्रेष्ठ (naraśreṣṭha) - best of men; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; सभाजयिता (sabhājayitā) - (will) honor; पुनः (punaḥ) - again;]
(When the sons of Pṛthā were slain in battle, at the rājasūya, so by you when brought, I, O best of men, shall honor you again.)
O best of men, when the sons of Pṛthā were slain in battle and at the rājasūya sacrifice, and when I am brought again by you, I shall honor you once more. (03-243-10)
तमब्रवीन्महाराजो धार्तराष्ट्रो महायशाः। सत्यमेतत्त्वया वीर पाण्डवेषु दुरात्मसु ॥०३-२४३-११॥
tam abravīn mahārājo dhārtarāṣṭro mahāyaśāḥ। satyam etat tvayā vīra pāṇḍaveṣu durātmasu ॥03-243-11॥
[तम् (tam) - him; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke; महाराजः (mahārājaḥ) - great king; धार्तराष्ट्रः (dhārtarāṣṭraḥ) - son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra; महायशाः (mahāyaśāḥ) - greatly renowned; सत्यं (satyam) - truth; एतत् (etat) - this; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; वीर (vīra) - hero; पाण्डवेषु (pāṇḍaveṣu) - in the Pāṇḍavas; दुरात्मसु (durātmasu) - in the evil-minded;]
(Him spoke the great king, the son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, greatly renowned: "Truth, this by you, hero, in the Pāṇḍavas, in the evil-minded." (03-243-11))
The greatly renowned king, son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, spoke to him: "O hero, what you say about the Pāṇḍavas being evil-minded is true." (03-243-11)
निहतेषु नरश्रेष्ठ प्राप्ते चापि महाक्रतौ। राजसूये पुनर्वीर त्वं मां संवर्धयिष्यसि ॥०३-२४३-१२॥
nihateṣu naraśreṣṭha prāpte cāpi mahākratau। rājasūye punarvīra tvaṃ māṃ saṃvardhayiṣyasi॥03-243-12॥
[निहतेषु (nihateṣu) - when (they are) slain; नरश्रेष्ठ (naraśreṣṭha) - best of men; प्राप्ते (prāpte) - when (it is) attained; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; महाक्रतौ (mahākratau) - at the great sacrifice; राजसूये (rājasūye) - at the Rājasūya (sacrifice); पुनः (punar) - again; वीर (vīra) - hero; त्वम् (tvaṃ) - you; माम् (mām) - me; संवर्धयिष्यसि (saṃvardhayiṣyasi) - you will honor;]
(When (they are) slain, O best of men, and when the great sacrifice is attained, and also at the Rājasūya, again, O hero, you will honor me.)
O best among men, when they have been slain and the great sacrifice is accomplished, at the Rājasūya, again, O hero, you will honor me. (03-243-12)
एवमुक्त्वा महाप्राज्ञः कर्णमाश्लिष्य भारत। राजसूयं क्रतुश्रेष्ठं चिन्तयामास कौरवः ॥०३-२४३-१३॥
evam uktvā mahāprājñaḥ karṇam āśliṣya bhārata। rājasūyaṃ kratuśreṣṭhaṃ cintayām āsa kauravaḥ॥03-243-13॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having spoken; महाप्राज्ञः (mahāprājñaḥ) - the very wise one; कर्णम् (karṇam) - Karna (proper noun, accusative singular); आश्लिष्य (āśliṣya) - having embraced; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata; राजसूयम् (rājasūyam) - the rājasūya (royal consecration); क्रतुश्रेष्ठम् (kratuśreṣṭham) - best of sacrifices; चिन्तयामास (cintayām āsa) - began to think; कौरवः (kauravaḥ) - the Kaurava (Duryodhana);]
(Thus having spoken, the very wise one, having embraced Karna, O Bhārata, the Kaurava began to think about the rājasūya, the best of sacrifices.)
Having said this, the wise Kaurava embraced Karna, O Bhārata, and began to contemplate the rājasūya, the foremost of sacrifices. (03-243-13)
सोऽब्रवीत्सुहृदश्चापि पार्श्वस्थान्नृपसत्तमः। कदा तु तं क्रतुवरं राजसूयं महाधनम् ॥ निहत्य पाण्डवान्सर्वानाहरिष्यामि कौरवाः ॥०३-२४३-१४॥
so'bravītsuhṛdaścāpi pārśvasthānnṛpasattamaḥ। kadā tu taṃ kratuvaraṃ rājasūyaṃ mahādhanam ॥ nihatya pāṇḍavānsarvānāhariṣyāmi kauravāḥ ॥03-243-14॥
[सः (saḥ) - he; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; सुहृदः (suhṛdaḥ) - to friends; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; पार्श्वस्थान् (pārśvasthān) - standing nearby; नृपसत्तमः (nṛpasattamaḥ) - excellent among kings; कदा (kadā) - when; तु (tu) - but; तम् (tam) - that; क्रतुवरम् (kratuvaram) - excellent sacrifice; राजसूयम् (rājasūyam) - Rājasūya (royal sacrifice); महाधनम् (mahādhanam) - great wealth; निहत्य (nihatya) - having slain; पाण्डवान् (pāṇḍavān) - the Pāṇḍavas; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; आहरिष्यामि (āhariṣyāmi) - I shall fetch; कौरवाः (kauravāḥ) - Kauravas;]
(He said also to the friends standing nearby, the excellent king: When but that excellent sacrifice, the Rājasūya, replete with great wealth—having slain all the Pāṇḍavas, I shall bring (it), O Kauravas.)
He, the best of kings, also said to the friends standing nearby: 'When, after having slain all the Pāṇḍavas, will I bring that Rājasūya sacrifice, full of great wealth, O Kauravas?' (03-243-14)
तमब्रवीत्तदा कर्णः शृणु मे राजकुञ्जर। पादौ न धावये तावद्यावन्न निहतोऽर्जुनः ॥०३-२४३-१५॥
tam abravīt tadā karṇaḥ śṛṇu me rāja-kuñjara। pādau na dhāvaye tāvad yāvann nihato 'rjunaḥ ॥03-243-15॥
[तम् (tam) - to him; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke; तदा (tadā) - then; कर्णः (karṇaḥ) - Karṇa; शृणु (śṛṇu) - listen; मे (me) - to me; राजकुञ्जर (rāja-kuñjara) - O royal elephant (epithet addressing a king); पादौ (pādau) - feet; न (na) - not; धावये (dhāvaye) - I shall move; तावत् (tāvat) - until then; यावत् (yāvat) - as long as; न (na) - not; निहतः (nihataḥ) - struck down (killed); अर्जुनः (arjunaḥ) - Arjuna;]
(To him then spoke Karṇa: "Listen to me, O royal elephant. I shall not move my feet until Arjuna is struck down." (03-243-15))
Then Karṇa said to him: "Listen to me, O king. I shall not move my feet until Arjuna has been slain." (03-243-15)
अथोत्क्रुष्टं महेष्वासैर्धार्तराष्ट्रैर्महारथैः। प्रतिज्ञाते फल्गुनस्य वधे कर्णेन संयुगे ॥ विजितांश्चाप्यमन्यन्त पाण्डवान्धृतराष्ट्रजाः ॥०३-२४३-१६॥
athotkruṣṭaṃ maheṣvāsaīrdhātrarāṣṭrairmahārathaiḥ। pratijñāte phalgunasya vadhe karṇena saṃyuge॥ vijitāṃścāpyamanyanta pāṇḍavāndhṛtarāṣṭrajāḥ॥03-243-16॥
[अथ (atha) - then; उत्क्रुष्टम् (utkruṣṭam) - shouted aloud; महेष्वासैः (maheṣvāsaiḥ) - by great archers; धार्तराष्ट्रैः (dhātrarāṣṭraiḥ) - by the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra; महारथैः (mahārathaiḥ) - by mighty chariot-warriors; प्रतिज्ञाते (pratijñāte) - having been vowed; फल्गुनस्य (phalgunasya) - of Phalguna (Arjuna); वधे (vadhe) - for the slaying; कर्णेन (karṇena) - by Karṇa; संयुगे (saṃyuge) - in battle; विजितान् (vijitān) - to be conquered; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; अमन्यन्त (amanyanta) - they thought; पाण्डवान् (pāṇḍavān) - the Pāṇḍavas; धृतराष्ट्रजाः (dhṛtarāṣṭrajāḥ) - the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra;]
(Then a great shout was raised by the great archers, the mighty chariot-warriors, the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra. When Karṇa vowed in battle to slay Phalguna, the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra also thought the Pāṇḍavas to be conquered.)
Then, the great archers, the mighty chariot-warriors, the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, raised a shout. When Karṇa vowed in battle to slay Arjuna, the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra also believed that the Pāṇḍavas were vanquished. (3-243-16)
दुर्योधनोऽपि राजेन्द्र विसृज्य नरपुङ्गवान्। प्रविवेश गृहं श्रीमान्यथा चैत्ररथं प्रभुः ॥ तेऽपि सर्वे महेष्वासा जग्मुर्वेश्मानि भारत ॥०३-२४३-१७॥
duryodhanō'pi rājendra visṛjya narapuṅgavān। praviveśa gṛhaṃ śrīmānyathā caitrarathaṃ prabhuḥ॥ tē'pi sarvē maheṣvāsā jagmurveśmāni bhārata॥03-243-17॥

(Duryodhana also, O king, having dismissed the foremost of men, entered the house, the fortunate lord as into Chaitraratha. They also, all the great archers, went to their houses, O Bhārata. (03-243-17))
Duryodhana also, O king, after sending away the foremost of men, entered his house, the prosperous lord as into Chaitraratha. The others, all the great archers, also went to their own houses, O Bhārata. (03-243-17)
पाण्डवाश्च महेष्वासा दूतवाक्यप्रचोदिताः। चिन्तयन्तस्तमेवार्थं नालभन्त सुखं क्वचित् ॥०३-२४३-१८॥
pāṇḍavāś ca maheṣvāsā dūta-vākya-pracoditāḥ। cintayantaḥ tam eva arthaṃ na alabhan̄ta sukham kvacit ॥03-243-18॥

(The sons of Pāṇḍu, and great archers, impelled by the messenger's words, thinking over that very meaning, did not obtain happiness anywhere.)
The Pāṇḍavas, great archers, urged by the messenger's words, kept pondering that very matter and did not find happiness anywhere. (03-243-18)
भूयश्च चारै राजेन्द्र प्रवृत्तिरुपपादिता। प्रतिज्ञा सूतपुत्रस्य विजयस्य वधं प्रति ॥०३-२४३-१९॥
bhūyaś ca cārai rājendra pravṛttir upapāditā। pratijñā sūtaputrasya vijayasya vadhaṃ prati ॥03-243-19॥

(Again and by spies, O king, news has been established: the vow of the charioteer's son, regarding the destruction of Vijaya.)
O king, again spies have confirmed the news: the charioteer's son has vowed to destroy Vijaya. (03-243-19)
एतच्छ्रुत्वा धर्मसुतः समुद्विग्नो नराधिप। अभेद्यकवचं मत्वा कर्णमद्भुतविक्रमम् ॥ अनुस्मरंश्च सङ्क्लेशान्न शान्तिमुपयाति सः ॥०३-२४३-२०॥
etat śrutvā dharmasutaḥ samudvigno narādhipa। abhedyakavacaṃ matvā karṇam adbhutavikramam॥ anusmaraṃś ca saṅkleśān na śāntim upayāti saḥ॥03-243-20॥

(Having heard this, the son of Dharma, the king, being disturbed, having considered Karṇa, who has an impenetrable armor and wonderful valor, and continuously remembering the distresses, he does not attain peace.)
Upon hearing this, the son of Dharma, the king, became disturbed; reflecting on Karṇa, possessed of impenetrable armor and marvelous valor, and dwelling on his troubles, he did not find peace. (03-243-20)
तस्य चिन्तापरीतस्य बुद्धिर्जज्ञे महात्मनः। बहुव्यालमृगाकीर्णं त्यक्तुं द्वैतवनं वनम् ॥०३-२४३-२१॥
tasya cintā-parītasya buddhiḥ jajñe mahātmanaḥ। bahu-vyāla-mṛga-ākīrṇam tyaktum dvaita-vanam vanam ॥03-243-21॥
[तस्य (tasya) - of him; चिन्तापरीतस्य (cintā-parītasya) - overwhelmed by anxiety; बुद्धिः (buddhiḥ) - intellect; जज्ञे (jajñe) - arose; महात्मनः (mahātmanaḥ) - of the great-souled (person); बहुव्यालमृगाकीर्णं (bahu-vyāla-mṛga-ākīrṇam) - filled with many serpents and wild animals; त्यक्तुं (tyaktum) - to abandon; द्वैतवनं (dvaita-vanam) - Dvaita forest; वनम् (vanam) - forest;]
(Of him overwhelmed by anxiety, intellect arose of the great-souled; filled with many serpents and wild animals to abandon Dvaita forest forest.)
In that great-souled one, overwhelmed by anxiety, the thought arose to abandon the Dvaita forest, which was filled with many serpents and wild animals. (03-243-21)
धार्तराष्ट्रोऽपि नृपतिः प्रशशास वसुन्धराम्। भ्रातृभिः सहितो वीरैर्भीष्मद्रोणकृपैस्तथा ॥०३-२४३-२२॥
dhārtarāṣṭro'pi nṛpatiḥ praśaśāsa vasundharām। bhrātṛbhiḥ sahito vīrairbhīṣmadroṇakṛpaistathā ॥03-243-22॥

saṅgamya sūtaputreṇa karṇenāhavaśobhinā। duryodhanaḥ priye nityaṃ vartamāno mahīpatiḥ ॥ pūjayāmāsa viprendrānk_ratubhirbhūridakṣiṇaiḥ ॥03-243-23॥

(Having met with the son of the charioteer, with Karṇa who shines in battle, Duryodhana, the king, being always dear, worshipped the foremost Brāhmaṇas with sacrifices and abundant gifts.)
After meeting with the son of the charioteer Karṇa, who excelled in battle, Duryodhana the king, ever affectionate, honored the foremost Brāhmaṇas with sacrifices and lavish gifts. (03-243-23)
भ्रातॄणां च प्रियं राजन्स चकार परन्तपः। निश्चित्य मनसा वीरो दत्तभुक्तफलं धनम् ॥०३-२४३-२४॥
bhrātṝṇāṃ ca priyaṃ rājans cakāra parantapaḥ। niścitya manasā vīro dattabhuktaphalaṃ dhanam ॥03-243-24॥
[भ्रातॄणां (bhrātṝṇāṃ) - of his brothers; च (ca) - and; प्रियं (priyaṃ) - pleasing; राजन् (rājan) - O king; चकार (cakāra) - he did; परन्तपः (parantapaḥ) - the vanquisher of foes; निश्चित्य (niścitya) - having determined; मनसा (manasā) - in his mind; वीरः (vīraḥ) - the hero; दत्तभुक्तफलं (dattabhuktaphalaṃ) - whose benefit (fruits) had been consumed by gifts; धनम् (dhanam) - the wealth;]
(Of his brothers and pleasing, O king, the vanquisher of foes did. Having determined in his mind, the hero (regarded as) wealth whose fruits had been consumed by gifts.)
O king, the heroic vanquisher of foes did what was pleasing for his brothers. Having resolved inwardly, he considered that wealth whose fruits had already been enjoyed through gifts. (03-243-24)
