tatastu śilpinaḥ sarve amātyapravarāś ca ha। viduraś ca mahāprājño dhārtarāṣṭre nyavedayat॥03-242-1॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; तु (tu) - but; शिल्पिनः (śilpinaḥ) - artisans; सर्वे (sarve) - all; अमात्यप्रवराः (amātyapravarāḥ) - chief ministers; च (ca) - and; ह (ha) - indeed; विदुरः (viduraḥ) - Vidura; च (ca) - and; महाप्राज्ञः (mahāprājñaḥ) - very wise one; धार्तराष्ट्रे (dhārtarāṣṭre) - to Dhritarashtra's son; न्यवेदयत् (nyavedayat) - informed;]
(Then but all artisans, chief ministers and indeed Vidura, the very wise one, informed Dhritarashtra's son.)
Then, however, all the artisans and chief ministers, together with Vidura, the most wise, informed the son of Dhritarashtra. (03-242-1)
सज्जं क्रतुवरं राजन्कालप्राप्तं च भारत। सौवर्णं च कृतं दिव्यं लाङ्गलं सुमहाधनम् ॥०३-२४२-२॥

[सज्जं (sajjam) - prepared; ready; क्रतुवरं (kratuvaram) - the best of sacrifices; राजन् (rājan) - O king; कालप्राप्तं (kālaprāptam) - arrived at its time; timely; च (ca) - and; भारत (bhārata) - O descendant of Bharata; सौवर्णं (sauvarṇam) - golden; च (ca) - and; कृतं (kṛtam) - made; दिव्यं (divyam) - divine; लाङ्गलं (lāṅgalam) - plough; सुमहाधनम् (sumahādhanam) - very great in wealth;]
(Prepared the best of sacrifices, O king, arrived at its time also, O Bhārata. And a golden, made, divine plough, very greatly wealthy.)
O king, the best of sacrifices is prepared and has arrived at the proper time, O Bhārata. And a divine plough made of gold, endowed with great wealth, (was present). (03-242-2)
एतच्छ्रुत्वा नृपश्रेष्ठो धार्तराष्ट्रो विशां पते। आज्ञापयामास नृपः क्रतुराजप्रवर्तनम् ॥०३-२४२-३॥

(Having heard this, the best of kings, the son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, O lord of people, the king ordered the initiation of the king of sacrifices.)
O lord of people, the son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, the foremost among kings, having heard this, ordered the performance of the great sacrifice. (03-242-3)
ततः प्रववृते यज्ञः प्रभूतान्नः सुसंस्कृतः। दीक्षितश्चापि गान्धारिर्यथाशास्त्रं यथाक्रमम् ॥०३-२४२-४॥

(Then the sacrifice, abundant in food, well-performed, was commenced. And Gandhari also was consecrated according to scripture, in order.)

प्रहृष्टो धृतराष्ट्रोऽभूद्विदुरश्च महायशाः। भीष्मो द्रोणः कृपः कर्णो गान्धारी च यशस्विनी ॥०३-२४२-५॥

Dhṛtarāṣṭra became gladdened; Vidura, the illustrious, and Bhīṣma, Droṇa, Kṛpa, Karṇa, and Gāndhārī, the renowned, also rejoiced. (03-242-5)
निमन्त्रणार्थं दूतांश्च प्रेषयामास शीघ्रगान्। पार्थिवानां च राजेन्द्र ब्राह्मणानां तथैव च ॥ ते प्रयाता यथोद्दिष्टं दूतास्त्वरितवाहनाः ॥०३-२४२-६॥
nimantraṇārthaṃ dūtāṃś ca preṣayāmāsa śīghragān। pārthivānāṃ ca rājendra brāhmaṇānāṃ tathaiva ca॥ te prayātā yathoddiṣṭaṃ dūtās tvaritavāhanāḥ॥03-242-6॥

(For the purpose of invitation, messengers and were sent quick-going; of kings and, O king of kings, of brāhmaṇas likewise and. They departed as assigned, messengers, having swift vehicles. (03-242-6))
For the purpose of invitation, quick messengers were sent to the kings and brāhmaṇas, O king of kings. Those messengers, with swift vehicles, set out as directed. (03-242-6)
तत्र कञ्चित्प्रयातं तु दूतं दुःशासनोऽब्रवीत्। गच्छ द्वैतवनं शीघ्रं पाण्डवान्पापपूरुषान् ॥ निमन्त्रय यथान्यायं विप्रांस्तस्मिन्महावने ॥०३-२४२-७॥
tatra kañcit-prayātaṃ tu dūtaṃ duḥśāsano'bravīt। gaccha dvaitavanaṃ śīghraṃ pāṇḍavān pāpapūruṣān ॥ nimantraya yathā-nyāyaṃ viprāṃs tasmin mahāvane ॥03-242-7॥
[तत्र (tatra) - there; कञ्चित् (kañcit) - a certain; प्रयातम् (prayātam) - departed; तु (tu) - but; दूतम् (dūtam) - messenger; दुःशासनः (duḥśāsanaḥ) - Duḥśāsana (proper name); अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; गच्छ (gaccha) - go; द्वैतवनम् (dvaitavanam) - Dvaītavana (the Dvaītavana forest); शीघ्रम् (śīghram) - quickly; पाण्डवान् (pāṇḍavān) - Pāṇḍavas (descendants of Pāṇḍu); पापपूरुषान् (pāpapūruṣān) - wicked men; निमन्त्रय (nimantraya) - invite; यथा (yathā) - according to; न्यायम् (nyāyam) - proper manner; विप्रान् (viprān) - Brāhmaṇas; तस्मिन् (tasmin) - in that; महावने (mahāvane) - great forest;]
(There a certain departed but messenger Duḥśāsana said; Go to Dvaītavana quickly (to) the Pāṇḍavas, the wicked men. Invite (them and) the Brāhmaṇas in that great forest according to proper manner.)
There, Duḥśāsana said to a certain departed messenger, "Go quickly to the Dvaītavana forest to the Pāṇḍavas, the wicked men. Invite them as is proper, along with the Brāhmaṇas, in that great forest." (03-242-7)
स गत्वा पाण्डवावासमुवाचाभिप्रणम्य तान्। दुर्योधनो महाराज यजते नृपसत्तमः ॥०३-२४२-८॥
sa gatvā pāṇḍavāvāsam uvāca abhipraṇamya tān। duryodhanaḥ mahārāja yajate nṛpasattamaḥ॥03-242-8॥
[स (sa) - he; गत्वा (gatvā) - having gone; पाण्डवावासम् (pāṇḍavāvāsam) - to the abode of the Pāṇḍavas; उवाच (uvāca) - spoke; अभिप्रणम्य (abhipraṇamya) - having bowed respectfully; तान् (tān) - to them; दुर्योधनः (duryodhanaḥ) - Duryodhana; महाराज (mahārāja) - great king; यजते (yajate) - performs sacrifice; नृपसत्तमः (nṛpasattamaḥ) - best among kings;]
(He, having gone to the abode of the Pāṇḍavas, having bowed respectfully to them, spoke: "Duryodhana, the great king, the best among kings, performs a sacrifice." (03-242-8))
Having gone to the abode of the Pāṇḍavas and having bowed to them, he said: "Duryodhana, the great king and best among kings, is performing a sacrifice." (03-242-8)
स्ववीर्यार्जितमर्थौघमवाप्य कुरुनन्दनः। तत्र गच्छन्ति राजानो ब्राह्मणाश्च ततस्ततः ॥०३-२४२-९॥
svavīryārjitamarthaughamavāpya kurunandanaḥ। tatra gacchanti rājāno brāhmaṇāś ca tatastataḥ॥03-242-9॥
[स्ववीर्य (svavīrya) - by one's own strength; अर्जितम् (arjitam) - obtained; अर्थौघम् (arthaugham) - mass of wealth; अवाप्य (avāpya) - having attained; कुरुनन्दनः (kurunandanaḥ) - O joy of the Kurus; (i.e. Arjuna or a Kuru prince;) तत्र (tatra) - there; गच्छन्ति (gacchanti) - go; राजानः (rājānaḥ) - kings; ब्राह्मणाश्च (brāhmaṇāś ca) - and brāhmaṇas; ततः ततः (tatastataḥ) - from here and there;]
(O Kurunandana, having attained the mass of wealth obtained by one's own strength, there go kings and brāhmaṇas from here and there.)
O Kurunandana, when the mass of wealth acquired by one's own strength is attained, kings and brāhmaṇas gather there, coming from all directions. (03-242-9)
अहं तु प्रेषितो राजन्कौरवेण महात्मना। आमन्त्रयति वो राजा धार्तराष्ट्रो जनेश्वरः ॥ मनोऽभिलषितं राज्ञस्तं क्रतुं द्रष्टुमर्हथ ॥०३-२४२-१०॥
ahaṃ tu preṣito rājan kauraveṇa mahātmanā। āmantrayati vo rājā dhārtarāṣṭro janeśvaraḥ॥ mano'bhilaṣitaṃ rājñas taṃ kratuṃ draṣṭum arhatha॥03-242-10॥
[अहं (ahaṃ) - I; तु (tu) - but; प्रेषितः (preṣitaḥ) - sent; राजन् (rājan) - O king; कौरवेण (kauraveṇa) - by the Kaurava; महात्मना (mahātmanā) - by the great-souled (one); आमन्त्रयति (āmantrayati) - invites; वः (vaḥ) - you (plural); राजा (rājā) - the king; धार्तराष्ट्रः (dhārtarāṣṭraḥ) - the son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra; जनेश्वरः (janeśvaraḥ) - lord of people; मनोऽभिलषितं (mano'bhilaṣitaṃ) - desired by the mind; राज्ञः (rājñaḥ) - by the king; तं (taṃ) - that; क्रतुम् (kratum) - sacrifice; द्रष्टुम् (draṣṭum) - to see; अर्हथ (arhatha) - you ought (to);]
(I but sent O king by the Kaurava by the great-souled (one). Invites you the king, the son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, lord of people. Desired by the mind by the king, that sacrifice to see you ought.)
But I, O king, have been sent by the great-souled Kaurava. King Dhṛtarāṣṭra's son, the lord of people, invites you. You ought to come and see that sacrifice, which is the king's heartfelt desire. (03-242-10)
ततो युधिष्ठिरो राजा तच्छ्रुत्वा दूतभाषितम्। अब्रवीन्नृपशार्दूलो दिष्ट्या राजा सुयोधनः ॥ यजते क्रतुमुख्येन पूर्वेषां कीर्तिवर्धनः ॥०३-२४२-११॥
tato yudhiṣṭhiro rājā tacchrutvā dūtabhāṣitam। abravīn nṛpaśārdūlo diṣṭyā rājā suyodhanaḥ ॥ yajate kratumukhyena pūrveṣāṃ kīrtivardhanaḥ ॥03-242-11॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; युधिष्ठिरः (yudhiṣṭhiraḥ) - Yudhiṣṭhira; राजा (rājā) - king; तत् (tat) - that; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; दूतभाषितम् (dūtabhāṣitam) - the messenger's speech; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; नृपशार्दूलः (nṛpaśārdūlaḥ) - tiger among kings; दिष्ट्या (diṣṭyā) - by fortune; राजा (rājā) - king; सुयोधनः (suyodhanaḥ) - Suyodhana; यजते (yajate) - sacrifices; क्रतुमुख्येन (kratumukhyena) - by the foremost sacrifice; पूर्वेषाम् (pūrveṣām) - of the ancestors; कीर्तिवर्धनः (kīrtivardhanaḥ) - one increasing fame;]
(Then Yudhiṣṭhira the king, having heard that speech of the messenger, the tiger among kings said: "By fortune, king Suyodhana, one increasing the fame of the ancestors, sacrifices by the foremost sacrifice." (03-242-11))
Then king Yudhiṣṭhira, having heard the messenger's words, the tiger among kings said: "It is by fortune that king Suyodhana, increasing the fame of his ancestors, performs the foremost of sacrifices." (03-242-11)
वयमप्युपयास्यामो न त्विदानीं कथञ्चन। समयः परिपाल्यो नो यावद्वर्षं त्रयोदशम् ॥०३-२४२-१२॥
vayam apy upayāsyāmo na tv idānīṁ kathaṁcana। samayaḥ paripālyo no yāvad varṣaṁ trayodaśam ॥03-242-12॥
[वयम् (vayam) - we; अपि (api) - also; उपयास्यामः (upayāsyāmaḥ) - we shall go near; we shall approach; न (na) - not; त्वि (tvi) - indeed; इदानीम् (idānīm) - now; कथञ्चन (kathaṁcana) - in any way; समयः (samayaḥ) - agreement; or specified period; परिपाल्यः (paripālyaḥ) - must be observed; नः (naḥ) - by us; यावत् (yāvat) - as long as; until; वर्षम् (varṣam) - year; त्रयोदशम् (trayodaśam) - thirteenth;]
(We also shall approach, but not now in any way. The agreement must be observed by us until the thirteenth year.)
We too will approach, but not at this time in any way. The agreement must be kept by us until the thirteenth year. (03-242-12)
श्रुत्वैतद्धर्मराजस्य भीमो वचनमब्रवीत्। तदा तु नृपतिर्गन्ता धर्मराजो युधिष्ठिरः ॥०३-२४२-१३॥
śrutvaitaddharmarājasya bhīmo vacanamabravīt. tadā tu nṛpatirgantā dharmarājo yudhiṣṭhiraḥ ॥03-242-13॥
[श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; एतत् (etat) - this; धर्मराजस्य (dharmarājasya) - of Dharmarāja; भीमः (bhīmaḥ) - Bhīma; वचनम् (vacanam) - word; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; तदा (tadā) - then; तु (tu) - but; नृपतः (nṛpatiḥ) - the king; गन्ता (gantā) - will go; धर्मराजः (dharmarājaḥ) - Dharmarāja; युधिष्ठिरः (yudhiṣṭhiraḥ) - Yudhiṣṭhira;]
(Having heard this of Dharmarāja, Bhīma said the word. Then but the king will go, Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira.)
Bhīma, having heard this from Dharmarāja, spoke these words: "Now the king, Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira, will go." (03-242-13)
अस्त्रशस्त्रप्रदीप्तेऽग्नौ यदा तं पातयिष्यति। वर्षात्त्रयोदशादूर्ध्वं रणसत्रे नराधिपः ॥०३-२४२-१४॥
astraśastrapradīpte'gnau yadā taṁ pātayiṣyati। varṣāttrayodaśādūrdhvaṁ raṇasatre narādhipaḥ ॥03-242-14॥
[अस्त्रशस्त्रप्रदीप्ते (astraśastra-pradīpte) - inflamed by weapons and missiles; अग्नौ (agnau) - in fire; यदा (yadā) - when; तम् (tam) - him; पातयिष्यति (pātayiṣyati) - will cause to fall; वर्षात् (varṣāt) - from the (thirteenth) year; त्रयोदशात् (trayodaśāt) - from the thirteenth; ऊर्ध्वम् (ūrdhvam) - after; रणसत्रे (raṇasatre) - in the battle-sacrifice; नराधिपः (narādhipaḥ) - the king;]
(In fire inflamed by weapons and missiles, when he will cause him to fall; after the thirteenth year, in the battle-sacrifice, the king.)
When, after the thirteenth year, in the battle-sacrifice, the king will cause him to fall in the fire inflamed by weapons and missiles. (03-242-14)
यदा क्रोधहविर्मोक्ता धार्तराष्ट्रेषु पाण्डवः। आगन्तारस्तदा स्मेति वाच्यस्ते स सुयोधनः ॥०३-२४२-१५॥
yadā krodhahavir-moktā dhārtarāṣṭreṣu pāṇḍavaḥ। āgantāras-tadā smeti vācyas-te sa suyodhanaḥ ॥03-242-15॥
[यदा (yadā) - when; क्रोधहविः (krodhahaviḥ) - anger-offering; मोक्ता (moktā) - one who releases; धार्तराष्ट्रेषु (dhārtarāṣṭreṣu) - among the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra; पाण्डवः (pāṇḍavaḥ) - the Pāṇḍava (Yudhiṣṭhira or Arjuna); आगन्तारः (āgantāraḥ) - will come; तदा (tadā) - then; स्म (sma) - indeed; इति (iti) - thus; वाच्यः (vācyaḥ) - should be said; ते (te) - to you; स (sa) - he; सुयोधनः (suyodhanaḥ) - Suyodhana (another name for Duryodhana);]
(When the Pāṇḍava will release the offering of anger among the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, then—'He will come indeed'—thus should be said to you, that Suyodhana.)
When the Pāṇḍava releases the oblation of his anger among the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, then, O Suyodhana, let it be said to you, 'he is surely coming.' (03-242-15)
शेषास्तु पाण्डवा राजन्नैवोचुः किञ्चिदप्रियम्। दूतश्चापि यथावृत्तं धार्तराष्ट्रे न्यवेदयत् ॥०३-२४२-१६॥
śeṣāstu pāṇḍavā rājannaivocuḥ kiñcidapriyam। dūtaścāpi yathāvṛttaṃ dhārtarāṣṭre nyavedayat ॥03-242-16॥
[शेषाः (śeṣāḥ) - the rest; the remaining; the others; तु (tu) - but; however; पाण्डवाः (pāṇḍavāḥ) - the Pāṇḍavas; sons of Pāṇḍu; राजन् (rājan) - O king; न (na) - not; एव (eva) - at all; surely; ऊचुः (ūcuḥ) - spoke; said; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - anything; any; अप्रियम् (apriyam) - unpleasant; disagreeable; दूतः (dūtaḥ) - the messenger; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; यथावृत्तम् (yathāvṛttam) - as had happened; in accordance with what occurred; धार्तराष्ट्रे (dhārtarāṣṭre) - to Dhārtarāṣṭra; to the son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra; न्यवेदयत् (nyavedayat) - informed; reported;]
(But the rest of the Pāṇḍavas, O king, did not speak at all anything unpleasant. And the messenger also reported as had happened to Dhārtarāṣṭra.)
But the remaining Pāṇḍavas, O king, did not say anything unpleasant. The messenger, too, told Dhārtarāṣṭra exactly what had occurred. (03-242-16)
अथाजग्मुर्नरश्रेष्ठा नानाजनपदेश्वराः। ब्राह्मणाश्च महाभागा धार्तराष्ट्रपुरं प्रति ॥०३-२४२-१७॥
athājagmun naraśreṣṭhā nānā-janapadeśvarāḥ | brāhmaṇāś ca mahābhāgā dhārtarāṣṭra-puraṃ prati ॥03-242-17॥
[अथ (atha) - then; अजग्मुः (ajagmuḥ) - they went; नरश्रेष्ठाः (naraśreṣṭhāḥ) - best of men; नाना (nānā) - various; जनपदेश्वराः (janapadeśvarāḥ) - lords of regions; ब्राह्मणाः (brāhmaṇāḥ) - brāhmaṇas; च (ca) - and; महाभागाः (mahābhāgāḥ) - highly fortunate; धार्तराष्ट्रपुरं (dhārtarāṣṭrapuram) - city of Dhṛtarāṣṭra; प्रति (prati) - towards;]
(Then they went, best of men, various lords of regions, and highly fortunate brāhmaṇas also, towards the city of Dhṛtarāṣṭra.)
Then the best of men, various lords of regions, and the highly fortunate brāhmaṇas went towards the city of Dhṛtarāṣṭra. (03-242-17)
ते त्वर्चिता यथाशास्त्रं यथावर्णं यथाक्रमम्। मुदा परमया युक्ताः प्रीत्या चापि नरेश्वर ॥०३-२४२-१८॥

(They indeed honored according to śāstra, according to caste, according to order, with joy, engaged with supreme (devotion), also with affection, O king.)
O king, they indeed honored (the guests) according to the scriptures, according to caste, and according to the proper order, with supreme joy and affection. (03-242-18)
धृतराष्ट्रोऽपि राजेन्द्र संवृतः सर्वकौरवैः। हर्षेण महता युक्तो विदुरं प्रत्यभाषत ॥०३-२४२-१९॥
dhṛtarāṣṭro'pi rājendra saṁvṛtaḥ sarvakauravaiḥ। harṣeṇa mahatā yukto viduraṁ pratyabhāṣata ॥03-242-19॥

(Dhṛtarāṣṭra also, O king, surrounded by all the Kauravas, filled with great joy, addressed Vidura.)

यथा सुखी जनः सर्वः क्षत्तः स्यादन्नसंयुतः। तुष्येच्च यज्ञसदने तथा क्षिप्रं विधीयताम् ॥०३-२४२-२०॥
yathā sukhī janaḥ sarvaḥ kṣattaḥ syād annasaṁyutaḥ। tuṣye ca yajñasadane tathā kṣipraṁ vidhīyatām॥03-242-20॥
[यथा (yathā) - as; सुखी (sukhī) - happy; जनः (janaḥ) - person; सर्वः (sarvaḥ) - every; क्षत्तः (kṣattaḥ) - servant; स्यात् (syāt) - might be; अन्नसंयुतः (annasaṁyutaḥ) - provided with food; तुष्येत् (tuṣyet) - would be satisfied; च (ca) - and; यज्ञसदने (yajñasadane) - in the sacrificial hall; तथा (tathā) - so; क्षिप्रं (kṣipram) - quickly; विधीयताम् (vidhīyatām) - let it be arranged;]
(As a happy person, every servant, might be provided with food, and be satisfied in the sacrificial hall, so quickly let this be arranged.)
Just as every servant, when provided with food, is happy and satisfied, let it be quickly arranged so in the sacrificial hall. (03-242-20)
विदुरस्त्वेवमाज्ञप्तः सर्ववर्णानरिंदम। यथाप्रमाणतो विद्वान्पूजयामास धर्मवित् ॥०३-२४२-२१॥
viduras tvevam ājñaptaḥ sarva-varṇān ariṁdama. yathā-pramāṇato vidvān pūjayām āsa dharmavit ॥03-242-21॥
[विदुरः (viduraḥ) - Vidura; तु (tu) - but; एवम् (evam) - thus; आज्ञप्तः (ājñaptaḥ) - having been ordered; सर्ववर्णान् (sarva-varṇān) - all castes; अरिंदम (ariṁdama) - O subduer of foes; यथा (yathā) - as; प्रमाणतः (pramāṇataḥ) - according to authority; विद्वान् (vidvān) - the wise; पूजयामास (pūjayām āsa) - honored; धर्मवित् (dharmavit) - knower of dharma;]
(Vidura but thus having been ordered all castes O subduer of foes as according to the authority the wise honored the knower of dharma.)
But Vidura, thus having been ordered, O subduer of foes, honored people of all castes—being wise and a knower of dharma—in accordance with proper authority. (03-242-21)
भक्ष्यभोज्यान्नपानेन माल्यैश्चापि सुगन्धिभिः। वासोभिर्विविधैश्चैव योजयामास हृष्टवत् ॥०३-२४२-२२॥
bhakṣyabhojyānnapānena mālyaīś cāpi sugandhibhiḥ। vāsobhir vividhaiś caiva yojayāmāsa hṛṣṭavat ॥03-242-22॥
[भक्ष्य (bhakṣya) - what is to be eaten; भोज्य (bhojya) - what is to be enjoyed/eaten as food; अन्नपानेन (annapānena) - with food and drink; माल्यैः (mālyaiḥ) - with garlands; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; सुगन्धिभिः (sugandhibhiḥ) - with fragrances; वासोभिः (vāsobhiḥ) - with garments; विविधैः (vividhaiḥ) - various; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; योजयामास (yojayāmāsa) - he/she joined/offered; हृष्टवत् (hṛṣṭavat) - with delight;]
(With (various kinds of) edibles, enjoyable foods, food and drinks, with garlands, and also with fragrances, with various garments indeed, he offered (them) with delight.)

कृत्वा ह्यवभृथं वीरो यथाशास्त्रं यथाक्रमम्। सान्त्वयित्वा च राजेन्द्रो दत्त्वा च विविधं वसु ॥ विसर्जयामास नृपान्ब्राह्मणांश्च सहस्रशः ॥०३-२४२-२३॥
kṛtvā hyavabhṛthaṃ vīro yathāśāstraṃ yathākramam. sāntvayitvā ca rājendro dattvā ca vividhaṃ vasu॥ visarjayāmāsa nṛpānbrāhmaṇāṃśca sahasraśaḥ॥03-242-23॥
[कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having performed; हि (hi) - indeed; अवभृथम् (avabhṛtham) - the avabhṛtha (concluding bath of a sacrifice); वीरः (vīraḥ) - the hero; यथा-शास्त्रम् (yathā-śāstram) - according to the injunction of the śāstras; यथा-क्रमम् (yathā-kramam) - according to the order; सान्त्वयित्वा (sāntvayitvā) - having conciliated; च (ca) - and; राजेन्द्रः (rājendraḥ) - the king; दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; च (ca) - and; विविधम् (vividham) - various; वसु (vasu) - wealth; विसर्जयामास (visarjayāmāsa) - dismissed; नृपान् (nṛpān) - kings; ब्राह्मणान् (brāhmaṇān) - Brāhmaṇas; च (ca) - and; सहस्रशः (sahasraśaḥ) - by thousands;]
(Having performed indeed the avabhṛtha (concluding bath) the hero according to the injunction of the śāstras, according to the order, having conciliated and the king, having given and various wealth, dismissed kings Brāhmaṇas and by thousands.)
Having duly completed the avabhṛtha bathing rite as prescribed by the śāstras and in due order, the heroic king, after conciliating and distributing various kinds of wealth, dismissed the kings and thousands of Brāhmaṇas. (03-242-23)
विसर्जयित्वा स नृपान्भ्रातृभिः परिवारितः। विवेश हास्तिनपुरं सहितः कर्णसौबलैः ॥०३-२४२-२४॥
visarjayitvā sa nṛpān bhrātṛbhiḥ parivāritaḥ। viveśa hāstinapuraṃ sahitaḥ karṇa-saubalaiḥ ॥03-242-24॥
[विसर्जयित्वा (visarjayitvā) - having dismissed; स (sa) - he; नृपान् (nṛpān) - kings; भ्रातृभिः (bhrātṛbhiḥ) - with brothers; परिवारितः (parivāritaḥ) - surrounded; विवेश (viveśa) - entered; हास्तिनपुरं (hāstinapuraṃ) - Hastinapura; सहितः (sahitaḥ) - together; कर्णसौबलैः (karṇa-saubalaiḥ) - with Karṇa and Saubala;]
(Having dismissed the kings, he, surrounded by (his) brothers, entered Hastinapura together with Karṇa and Saubala.)
After dismissing the kings, he, accompanied by his brothers and together with Karṇa and Saubala, entered Hastinapura. (03-242-24)
