ततो निविशमानांस्तान्सैनिकान्रावणानुगाः। अभिजग्मुर्गणानेके पिशाचक्षुद्ररक्षसाम् ॥०३-२६९-१॥
tato niviśamānāṁs tān sainikān rāvaṇānugāḥ। abhijagmur gaṇān eke piśāca-kṣudra-rakṣasām ॥03-269-1॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; निविशमानान् (niviśamānān) - taking their positions; तान् (tān) - those; सैनिकान् (sainikān) - soldiers; रावणानुगाः (rāvaṇānugāḥ) - followers of Rāvaṇa; अभिजग्मुः (abhijagmūḥ) - approached; गणान् (gaṇān) - groups; एके (eke) - certain; पिशाचक्षुद्ररक्षसाम् (piśāca-kṣudra-rakṣasām) - of piśācas and low rakṣasas;]
(Then, the followers of Rāvaṇa approached those soldiers taking positions, (and) certain groups of piśācas and lesser rakṣasas.)
Then, Rāvaṇa's followers approached those soldiers taking their positions, along with certain groups of piśācas and lesser rakṣasas. (03-269-1)
पर्वणः पूतनो जम्भः खरः क्रोधवशो हरिः। प्ररुजश्चारुजश्चैव प्रघसश्चैवमादयः ॥०३-२६९-२॥

ततोऽभिपततां तेषामदृश्यानां दुरात्मनाम्। अन्तर्धानवधं तज्ज्ञश्चकार स विभीषणः ॥०३-२६९-३॥
tato'bhipatatāṃ teṣāmadṛśyānāṃ durātmanām। antardhānavadhaṃ tajjñaścakāra sa vibhīṣaṇaḥ ॥03-269-3॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; अभिपतताम् (abhipatatām) - of those attacking; तेषाम् (teṣām) - of them; अदृश्यानाम् (adṛśyānām) - invisible; दुरात्मनाम् (durātmanām) - wicked-souled; अन्तर्धानवधम् (antardhānavadham) - slaying (of those in) invisibility; तज्ज्ञः (tajjñaḥ) - knower of that; चकार (cakāra) - performed; स (sa) - he; विभीषणः (vibhīṣaṇaḥ) - Vibhīṣaṇa;]
(Then, of those attacking, of them, invisible, wicked-souled, slaying (of those in) invisibility, knower of that, performed, he, Vibhīṣaṇa.)
Then Vibhīṣaṇa, who was knowledgeable about such things, carried out the destruction of those wicked-souled, invisible attackers. (03-269-3)
ते दृश्यमाना हरिभिर्बलिभिर्दूरपातिभिः। निहताः सर्वशो राजन्महीं जग्मुर्गतासवः ॥०३-२६९-४॥
te dṛśyamānā haribhirbalibhirdūrapātibhiḥ। nihatāḥ sarvaśo rājanmahīṃ jagmurgatāsavaḥ॥03-269-4॥
[ते (te) - they; दृश्यमाना (dṛśyamānāḥ) - visible; appearing; हरिभिः (haribhiḥ) - by monkeys; बलिभिः (balibhiḥ) - by the strong; by the powerful; दूरपातिभिः (dūrapātibhiḥ) - by those who hurl (throw) far; far-throwing; निहताः (nihatāḥ) - struck down; killed; सर्वशः (sarvaśaḥ) - completely; in every way; राजन् (rājan) - O king; महीं (mahīm) - earth; ground; जग्मुः (jagmuḥ) - went; proceeded; गतासवः (gatāsavaḥ) - whose life-force had departed; lifeless;]
(They, being visible, by the monkeys, by the strong, by those who hurl far, having been killed completely, O king, the earth went, lifeless.)
O king, those (enemies), made visible and killed completely by the powerful monkeys capable of hurling far, fell lifeless upon the earth. (03-269-4)
अमृष्यमाणः सबलो रावणो निर्ययावथ। व्यूह्य चौशनसं व्यूहं हरीन्सर्वानहारयत् ॥०३-२६९-५॥
amṛṣyamāṇaḥ sabalo rāvaṇo niryayāvatha। vyūhya cauśanasaṃ vyūhaṃ harīnsarvānahārayat ॥03-269-5॥
[अमृष्यमाणः (amṛṣyamāṇaḥ) - not able to bear; unable to endure; सबलः (sabalaḥ) - with his army; powerful; रावणः (rāvaṇaḥ) - Rāvaṇa; निर्ययौ (niryayau) - departed; marched out; अथ (atha) - then; व्यूह्य (vyūhya) - having drawn up; arranging (in battle array); च (ca) - and; औशनसं (auśanasaṃ) - the army (of) the descendant of Uśanas (i.e. army guided by Śukra or counselor Śukra); व्यूहं (vyūham) - battle array; formation; हरीन् (harīn) - Vanaras; monkeys; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; अहारयत् (ahārayat) - made (them) approach; led (them forward);]
(Not able to bear, with his army Rāvaṇa then marched out; having arranged the army formation of Uśanas, and led all the monkeys forward.)
Unable to endure, Rāvaṇa, with his full army, came out; after arranging the battle formation as taught by Uśanas, he called all the monkeys forward. (03-269-5)
राघवस्त्वभिनिर्याय व्यूढानीकं दशाननम्। बार्हस्पत्यं विधिं कृत्वा प्रत्यव्यूहन्निशाचरम् ॥०३-२६९-६॥
rāghavas tv abhiniryāya vyūḍhānīkaṃ daśānanam। bārhaspatyaṃ vidhiṃ kṛtvā pratyavyūhann-işācaram ॥03-269-6॥
[राघवः (rāghavaḥ) - descendant of Raghu (Rāma); तु (tu) - but; अभिनिर्याय (abhiniryāya) - having come forth; व्यूढानीकम् (vyūḍhānīkam) - arrayed troops; दशाननम् (daśānanam) - Daśānana (Rāvaṇa); बार्हस्पत्यं (bārhaspatyam) - of Bṛhaspati; विधिम् (vidhim) - method; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having done; प्रत्यव्यूहत् (pratyavyūhat) - counter-arrayed; निशाचरम् (niśācaram) - the night-wanderer (demon);]
(Rāghava but having come forth, having arrayed the troops, Daśānana, having employed the method of Bṛhaspati, counter-arrayed the night-wanderer.)
But Rāghava, having come forth, arrayed his troops, and then, employing the strategy of Bṛhaspati, counter-arrayed them against Daśānana, the night-wanderer. (03-269-6)
समेत्य युयुधे तत्र ततो रामेण रावणः। युयुधे लक्ष्मणश्चैव तथैवेन्द्रजिता सह ॥०३-२६९-७॥
sametya yuyudhe tatra tato rāmeṇa rāvaṇaḥ। yuyudhe lakṣmaṇaś caiva tathaivendrajitā saha ॥03-269-7॥
[समेत्य (sametya) - having come together; युयुधे (yuyudhe) - fought; तत्र (tatra) - there; ततः (tataḥ) - then; रामेण (rāmeṇa) - with Rāma; रावणः (rāvaṇaḥ) - Rāvaṇa; युयुधे (yuyudhe) - fought; लक्ष्मणः (lakṣmaṇaḥ) - Lakṣmaṇa; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - certainly; तथैव (tathaiva) - in the same way; इन्द्रजिता (indrajitā) - with Indrajit; सह (saha) - together;]
(Having come together, there then Rāvaṇa fought with Rāma. Lakṣmaṇa also, in the same way, fought together with Indrajit.)
Having gathered, Rāvaṇa then fought with Rāma there. Similarly, Lakṣmaṇa also fought together with Indrajit. (03-269-7)
विरूपाक्षेण सुग्रीवस्तारेण च निखर्वटः। तुण्डेन च नलस्तत्र पटुशः पनसेन च ॥०३-२६९-८॥
virūpākṣeṇa sugrīvastāreṇa ca nikharvaṭaḥ। tuṇḍena ca nalas tatra paṭuśaḥ panasena ca॥03-269-8॥
[विरूपाक्षेण (virūpākṣeṇa) - by Virūpākṣa; सुग्रीवः (sugrīvaḥ) - Sugrīva; तारेण (tāreṇa) - by Tāra; च (ca) - and; निखर्वटः (nikharvaṭaḥ) - Nikharvaṭa; तुण्डेन (tuṇḍena) - by Tuṇḍa; च (ca) - and; नलः (nalaḥ) - Nala; तत्र (tatra) - there; पटुशः (paṭuśaḥ) - Paṭuśa; पनसेन (panasena) - by Panasa; च (ca) - and;]
(By Virūpākṣa, Sugrīva; by Tāra and Nikharvaṭa; by Tuṇḍa and Nala there; Paṭuśa by Panasa and.)
Sugrīva with Virūpākṣa, Nikharvaṭa with Tāra, Nala with Tuṇḍa, and Paṭuśa with Panasa were there together. (03-269-8)
विषह्यं यं हि यो मेने स स तेन समेयिवान्। युयुधे युद्धवेलायां स्वबाहुबलमाश्रितः ॥०३-२६९-९॥
viṣahyaṃ yaṃ hi yo mene sa sa tena sameyivān। yuyudhe yuddhavelāyāṃ svabāhubalamāśritaḥ ॥03-269-9॥
[विषह्यं (viṣahyam) - to be overcome; conquerable; यं (yam) - whom; हि (hi) - indeed; यः (yaḥ) - who; मेने (mene) - thought; considered; स (sa) - he; स (sa) - he; तेन (tena) - with him; समेयिवान् (sameyivān) - who has come together; met; युयुधे (yuyudhe) - fought; engaged in battle; युद्धवेलायां (yuddhavelāyāṃ) - at the time of battle; स्वबाहुबलम् (svabāhubalam) - his own arm strength; आश्रितः (āśritaḥ) - having relied upon;]
(He who indeed considered as conquerable whom, he, having come together with him, fought at the time of battle, relying on his own arm strength.)
Whoever considered someone conquerable, when he encountered him, fought relying on his own strength at the time of battle. (03-269-9)
स सम्प्रहारो ववृधे भीरूणां भयवर्धनः। लोमसंहर्षणो घोरः पुरा देवासुरे यथा ॥०३-२६९-१०॥
sa samprahāro vavṛdhe bhīrūṇāṃ bhayavardhanaḥ। lomasamharṣaṇo ghoraḥ purā devāsure yathā ॥03-269-10॥
[स (sa) - he; (or) that; सम्प्रहारः (samprahāraḥ) - attack; assault; ववृधे (vavṛdhe) - increased; grew; भीरूणां (bhīrūṇāṃ) - of the fearful; of the timid; भयवर्धनः (bhayavardhanaḥ) - causing the increase of fear; लोमसंहर्षणः (lomasamharṣaṇaḥ) - hair-raising; causing bristling of hair; घोरः (ghoraḥ) - terrible; dreadful; पुरा (purā) - formerly; long ago; देवासुरे (devāsure) - in the (battle) between devas and asuras; यथा (yathā) - just as; ॥०३-२६९-१०॥ (॥03-269-10॥) - (03-269-10);]
(He, that attack increased, for the fearful increasing fear, hair-raising, dreadful, formerly, in the battle between devas and asuras, just as.)
That assault intensified, dreadful and causing terror among the timid, raising their hair, just as it had once been in the ancient battle between the devas and asuras. (03-269-10)
रावणो राममानर्छच्छक्तिशूलासिवृष्टिभिः। निशितैरायसैस्तीक्ष्णै रावणं चापि राघवः ॥०३-२६९-११॥
rāvaṇo rāmam ānarca kṣaktiśūlāsivṛṣṭibhiḥ। niśitair āyasais tīkṣṇai rāvaṇaṃ cāpi rāghavaḥ ॥03-269-11॥

तथैवेन्द्रजितं यत्तं लक्ष्मणो मर्मभेदिभिः। इन्द्रजिच्चापि सौमित्रिं बिभेद बहुभिः शरैः ॥०३-२६९-१२॥
tathaiva indrajitaṃ yat taṃ lakṣmaṇo marmabhedibhiḥ। indrajit ca api saumitriṃ bibheda bahubhiḥ śaraiḥ॥03-269-12॥
[तथा एव (tathā eva) - in the same way; indeed; इन्द्रजितम् (indrajitam) - Indrajit (proper noun, accusative singular); यत्तम् (yat tam) - that (one); लक्ष्मणः (lakṣmaṇaḥ) - Lakṣmaṇa (proper noun, nominative singular); मर्मभेदिभिः (marmabhedibhiḥ) - with (arrows) penetrating the vital parts; इन्द्रजित् (indrajit) - Indrajit (proper noun, nominative singular); च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; सौमित्रिम् (saumitriṃ) - Saumitri (another name for Lakṣmaṇa, accusative singular); बिभेद (bibheda) - pierced; बहुभिः (bahubhiḥ) - with many; शरैः (śaraiḥ) - with arrows;]
(In the same way indeed Indrajit, that one, Lakṣmaṇa with arrows penetrating the vital parts; Indrajit also Saumitri pierced with many arrows.)
Just so, Lakṣmaṇa wounded Indrajit with arrows that pierced vital parts; and likewise, Indrajit also pierced Saumitri with many arrows. (03-269-12)
विभीषणः प्रहस्तं च प्रहस्तश्च विभीषणम्। खगपत्रैः शरैस्तीक्ष्णैरभ्यवर्षद्गतव्यथः ॥०३-२६९-१३॥
vibhīṣaṇaḥ prahastaṃ ca prahastaś ca vibhīṣaṇam। khagapatraiḥ śaraiḥ tīkṣṇaiḥ abhyavarṣat gatavyathaḥ ॥03-269-13॥
[विभीषणः (vibhīṣaṇaḥ) - Vibhīṣaṇa (proper noun, nominative singular masculine); प्रहस्तं (prahastaṃ) - Prahasta (proper noun, accusative singular masculine); च (ca) - and; प्रहस्तः (prahastaḥ) - Prahasta (proper noun, nominative singular masculine); च (ca) - and; विभीषणम् (vibhīṣaṇam) - Vibhīṣaṇa (proper noun, accusative singular masculine); खगपत्रैः (khagapatraiḥ) - with feathered (bird-feathered); शरैः (śaraiḥ) - with arrows; तीक्ष्णैः (tīkṣṇaiḥ) - with sharp; अभ्यवर्षत् (abhyavarṣat) - (he) showered upon; गतव्यथः (gatavyathaḥ) - free from pain;]
(Vibhīṣaṇa and Prahasta, and Prahasta (upon) Vibhīṣaṇa, with bird-feathered sharp arrows, (he) showered free from pain.)
Vibhīṣaṇa struck at Prahasta and Prahasta (in turn) struck at Vibhīṣaṇa, each showering sharp, bird-feathered arrows, both untroubled by pain. (03-269-13)
तेषां बलवतामासीन्महास्त्राणां समागमः। विव्यथुः सकला येन त्रयो लोकाश्चराचराः ॥०३-२६९-१४॥
teṣāṃ balavatām āsīn mahāstrāṇāṃ samāgamaḥ. vivyathuḥ sakalā yena trayo lokāś carācarāḥ ॥03-269-14॥
[तेषां (teṣām) - of them; बलवताम् (balavatām) - of the powerful; आसीत् (āsīt) - there was; महास्त्राणां (mahāstrāṇām) - of great weapons; समागमः (samāgamaḥ) - union; meeting; विव्यथुः (vivyathuḥ) - were agitated; सकला (sakalā) - all; entire; येन (yena) - by which; त्रयः (trayaḥ) - three; लोकाः (lokāḥ) - worlds; चराचराः (carācarāḥ) - moving and unmoving;]
(Of them, of the powerful, there was a meeting of great weapons. All, by which, the three worlds, moving and unmoving, were agitated.)
A meeting of great weapons occurred among those powerful ones, by which all the three worlds of both moving and unmoving beings were agitated. (03-269-14)
