ततः प्रहस्तः सहसा समभ्येत्य विभीषणम्। गदया ताडयामास विनद्य रणकर्कशः ॥०३-२७०-१॥
tataḥ prahastaḥ sahasā samabhyetya vibhīṣaṇam। gadayā tāḍayām āsa vinadya raṇakarkaśaḥ ॥03-270-1॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; प्रहस्तः (prahastaḥ) - Prahasta (proper noun); सहसा (sahasā) - suddenly; समभ्येत्य (samabhyetya) - approaching closely; विभीषणम् (vibhīṣaṇam) - Vibhīṣaṇa (proper noun, accusative); गदया (gadayā) - with a mace; ताडयामास (tāḍayām āsa) - struck; विनद्य (vinadya) - roaring; रणकर्कशः (raṇakarkaśaḥ) - harsh (or fierce) in battle;]
(Then Prahasta, suddenly approaching Vibhīṣaṇa, with a mace struck, roaring, fierce in battle.)
Then Prahasta, fierce in battle, suddenly approached Vibhīṣaṇa, roaring, and struck him with a mace. (03-270-1)
स तयाभिहतो धीमान्गदया भीमवेगया। नाकम्पत महाबाहुर्हिमवानिव सुस्थिरः ॥०३-२७०-२॥
sa tayābhihato dhīmān gadayā bhīmavegayā। nākampata mahābāhur himavān iva susthiraḥ॥03-270-2॥
[स (sa) - he; तया (tayā) - by her; अभिहतः (abhihataḥ) - struck; धीमान् (dhīmān) - wise; गदया (gadayā) - with the mace; भीमवेगया (bhīmavegayā) - of terrible force; न अ-कम्पत (na akampata) - did not tremble; महाबाहुः (mahābāhuḥ) - mighty-armed; हिमवान् इव (himavān iva) - like the Himavat (Himalaya); सुस्थिरः (susthiraḥ) - very steady;]
(He, struck by her, the wise one, with the mace of terrible force, did not tremble, the mighty-armed, like the Himavat, very steady.)
Though struck by her with a mace of terrible force, the wise and mighty-armed hero did not waver, remaining as firm as the Himavat mountain. (03-270-2)
ततः प्रगृह्य विपुलां शतघण्टां विभीषणः। अभिमन्त्र्य महाशक्तिं चिक्षेपास्य शिरः प्रति ॥०३-२७०-३॥
tataḥ pragṛhya vipulāṁ śataghāṇṭāṁ vibhīṣaṇaḥ. abhimantr̥ya mahāśaktiṁ cikṣepāsya śiraḥ prati ॥03-270-3॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; प्रगृह्य (pragṛhya) - having seized; विपुलां (vipulām) - great; शतघण्टां (śataghāṇṭām) - with a hundred bells; विभीषणः (vibhīṣaṇaḥ) - Vibhīṣaṇa; अभिमन्त्र्य (abhimantr̥ya) - having consecrated with mantras; महाशक्तिं (mahāśaktim) - great weapon; चिक्षेप (cikṣepa) - hurled; अस्य (asya) - his; शिरः (śiraḥ) - head; प्रति (prati) - towards;]
(Then having seized the great (weapon) with a hundred bells, Vibhīṣaṇa, having consecrated (it) with mantras, hurled the great weapon towards his head.)
Then Vibhīṣaṇa, having taken the massive weapon adorned with a hundred bells and having consecrated it with mantras, hurled the great weapon at his head. (03-270-3)
पतन्त्या स तया वेगाद्राक्षसोऽशनिनादया। हृतोत्तमाङ्गो ददृशे वातरुग्ण इव द्रुमः ॥०३-२७०-४॥
patantyā sa tayā vegādrākṣaso'śaninādayā। hṛtottamāṅgo dadṛśe vātarugṇa iva drumaḥ ॥03-270-4॥
[पतन्त्या (patantyā) - by the (female) falling; स (sa) - he; तया (tayā) - with her; वेगात् (vegāt) - from speed; राक्षसः (rākṣasaḥ) - the rakshasa; अशनिनादया (aśaninādayā) - with thunderous sound; हृत (hṛta) - deprived; उत्तमाङ्गः (uttamāṅgaḥ) - of the head; ददृशे (dadṛśe) - appeared; वातरुग्ण (vātarugṇa) - broken by wind; इव (iva) - like; द्रुमः (drumaḥ) - tree;]
(By the (female) falling, he, with her, from speed, the rakshasa, with thunderous sound, deprived of head, appeared like a tree broken by wind.)
Struck by her as she fell at speed, the rakshasa, with a thunderous sound and his head torn away, looked like a tree shattered by the wind. (03-270-4)
तं दृष्ट्वा निहतं सङ्ख्ये प्रहस्तं क्षणदाचरम्। अभिदुद्राव धूम्राक्षो वेगेन महता कपीन् ॥०३-२७०-५॥
taṃ dṛṣṭvā nihataṃ saṅkhye prahastaṃ kṣaṇadācaram। abhidudrāva dhūmrākṣo vegena mahatā kapīn ॥03-270-5॥

(Him having seen slain in battle Prahasta night-wanderer, rushed towards (them) Dhūmrākṣa with great speed (towards the) monkeys.)
When he saw Prahasta, the night-wanderer, slain in battle, Dhūmrākṣa rushed at the monkeys with great speed. (03-270-5)
तस्य मेघोपमं सैन्यमापतद्भीमदर्शनम्। दृष्ट्वैव सहसा दीर्णा रणे वानरपुङ्गवाः ॥०३-२७०-६॥
tasya meghopamaṃ sainyam āpatadb hīmadarśanam| dṛṣṭvaiva sahasā dīrṇā raṇe vānarapuṅgavāḥ ॥03-270-6॥
[तस्य (tasya) - of him; मेघोपमं (meghopamam) - cloud-like; सैन्यम् (sainyam) - army; आपतत् (āpatat) - approaching; भीमदर्शनम् (bhīmadarśanam) - terrible in appearance; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; एव (eva) - just; सहसा (sahasā) - suddenly; दीर्णाः (dīrṇāḥ) - scattered; रणे (raṇe) - in battle; वानरपुङ्गवाः (vānarapuṅgavāḥ) - the foremost monkeys;]
(Of him, cloud-like army, approaching, terrible in appearance, having seen just, suddenly scattered in battle the foremost monkeys.)
Seeing his army, cloud-like and terrible in appearance, approaching, the foremost of the monkeys suddenly scattered in the battle. (03-270-6)
ततस्तान्सहसा दीर्णान्दृष्ट्वा वानरपुङ्गवान्। निर्याय कपिशार्दूलो हनूमान्पर्यवस्थितः ॥०३-२७०-७॥
tatas tān sahasā dīrṇān dṛṣṭvā vānarapuṅgavān। niryāya kapiśārdūlo hanūmān paryavasthitaḥ॥03-270-7॥

(Then, those best of monkeys suddenly torn, having seen, having come out, the tiger among monkeys Hanuman stood firmly.)
Then Hanuman, the tiger among monkeys, having come out and having seen those best of monkeys suddenly torn, stood firmly. (03-270-7)
तं दृष्ट्वावस्थितं सङ्ख्ये हरयः पवनात्मजम्। वेगेन महता राजन्संन्यवर्तन्त सर्वशः ॥०३-२७०-८॥
taṃ dṛṣṭvāvasthitaṃ saṅkhye harayaḥ pavanātmajam। vegena mahatā rājansaṃnyavartanta sarvaśaḥ ॥03-270-8॥
[तं (taṃ) - him; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; अवस्थितं (avasthitam) - stood; सङ्ख्ये (saṅkhye) - in battle; हरयः (harayaḥ) - the monkeys; पवनात्मजम् (pavanātmajam) - the son of wind; वेगेन (vegena) - with speed; महत् (mahatā) - great; राजन् (rājan) - O king; संन्यवर्तन्त (saṃnyavartanta) - turned back; सर्वशः (sarvaśaḥ) - entirely;]
(Him having seen stood in battle the monkeys the son of wind with speed great O king turned back entirely.)
O king, seeing the son of the wind standing (firm) in battle, the monkeys, with great speed, all turned back. (03-270-8)
ततः शब्दो महानासीत्तुमुलो लोमहर्षणः। रामरावणसैन्यानामन्योन्यमभिधावताम् ॥०३-२७०-९॥
tataḥ śabdo mahān āsīt tumulo lomaharṣaṇaḥ। rāma-rāvaṇa-sainyānām anyonyam abhidhāvatām ॥03-270-9॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - thereafter; शब्दः (śabdaḥ) - sound; महान् (mahān) - great; आसीत् (āsīt) - there was; तुमुलः (tumulaḥ) - loud; लोमहर्षणः (lomaharṣaṇaḥ) - hair-raising; रामरावणसैन्यानाम् (rāma-rāvaṇa-sainyānām) - of the armies of Rāma and Rāvaṇa; अन्योन्यम् (anyonyam) - to one another; अभिधावताम् (abhidhāvatām) - rushing against;]
(Thereafter, a great, loud, hair-raising sound was (heard) of the armies of Rāma and Rāvaṇa, rushing against one another.)
Then there arose a great, tumultuous, hair-raising sound from the armies of Rāma and Rāvaṇa as they charged against each other. (03-270-9)
तस्मिन्प्रवृत्ते सङ्ग्रामे घोरे रुधिरकर्दमे। धूम्राक्षः कपिसैन्यं तद्द्रावयामास पत्रिभिः ॥०३-२७०-१०॥
tasmin pravṛtte saṅgrāme ghore rudhirakardame। dhūmrākṣaḥ kapisainyaṃ tad drāvayāmāsa patribhiḥ ॥03-270-10॥
[तस्मिन् (tasmin) - in that; in that (time or place); प्रवृत्ते (pravṛtte) - engaged; commenced; सङ्ग्रामे (saṅgrāme) - battle; घोरे (ghore) - terrible; dreadful; रुधिरकर्दमे (rudhirakardame) - blood-mud; muddy with blood; धूम्राक्षः (dhūmrākṣaḥ) - Dhūmrākṣa; (proper noun; name of a demon); कपिसैन्यं (kapisainyam) - monkey army; तत् (tad) - that; द्रावयामास (drāvayāmāsa) - drove away; dispersed; पत्रिभिः (patribhiḥ) - with arrows;]
(In that engaged battle, terrible and muddy with blood, Dhūmrākṣa drove away that monkey army with arrows.)
During that terrible, blood-muddied battle, Dhūmrākṣa routed the monkey army with arrows. (03-270-10)
तं राक्षसमहामात्रमापतन्तं सपत्नजित्। तरसा प्रतिजग्राह हनूमान्पवनात्मजः ॥०३-२७०-११॥
taṃ rākṣasa-mahāmātram āpatantaṃ sapatnajit. tarasā pratijagrāha hanūmān pavana-ātmajaḥ ॥03-270-11॥
[तं (taṃ) - him; राक्षस-महामात्रम् (rākṣasa-mahāmātram) - the great minister of the rākṣasas; आपतन्तम् (āpatantam) - rushing (at); सपत्नजित् (sapatnajit) - conqueror of enemies; तरसा (tarasā) - with force; प्रतिजग्राह (pratijagrāha) - seized; हनूमान् (hanūmān) - Hanuman; पवनात्मजः (pavana-ātmajaḥ) - the son of the wind;]
(Hanuman, the son of the wind, the conqueror of enemies, seized with force him, the great minister of the rākṣasas, as he was rushing (at him).)
Hanuman, son of the wind, who conquers his foes, seized with force the great minister of the rākṣasas as he was rushing forward. (03-270-11)
तयोर्युद्धमभूद्घोरं हरिराक्षसवीरयोः। जिगीषतोर्युधान्योन्यमिन्द्रप्रह्लादयोरिव ॥०३-२७०-१२॥
tayor yuddham abhūd ghoram hari-rākṣasa-vīrayoḥ। jigīṣator yudhan anyonyam indra-prahlāda-yor iva ॥03-270-12॥
[तयोः (tayor) - of those two; युद्धम् (yuddham) - battle; अभूत् (abhūt) - became; घोरम् (ghoram) - terrible; हरि-राक्षस-वीरयोः (hari-rākṣasa-vīrayoḥ) - of the hero Hari and the rakshasa; जिगीषतोः (jigīṣatoḥ) - of the two desiring to conquer; युधन् (yudhan) - fighting; अन्योन्यम् (anyonyaṃ) - each other; इन्द्र-प्रह्लादयोः (indra-prahlādayoḥ) - of Indra and Prahlada; इव (iva) - like;]
(Of those two, the battle became terrible, of the hero Hari and the rakshasa, of the two desiring to conquer, fighting each other, like Indra and Prahlada.)
A terrible battle arose between those two—the hero Hari and the rakshasa—both eager to conquer each other, just like that between Indra and Prahlada. (03-270-12)
गदाभिः परिघैश्चैव राक्षसो जघ्निवान्कपिम्। कपिश्च जघ्निवान्रक्षः सस्कन्धविटपैर्द्रुमैः ॥०३-२७०-१३॥
gadābhiḥ parighaiś caiva rākṣaso jaghnivān kapim। kapiś ca jaghnivān rakṣaḥ sa-skandha-viṭapair drumaiḥ॥03-270-13॥
[गदाभिः (gadābhiḥ) - with maces; परिघैः (parighaiḥ) - with iron clubs; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - also; राक्षसः (rākṣasaḥ) - the demon; जघ्निवान् (jaghnivān) - struck; कपिम् (kapim) - the monkey; कपि (kapi) - the monkey; च (ca) - and; जघ्निवान् (jaghnivān) - struck; रक्षः (rakṣaḥ) - the demon; सस्कन्धविटपैः (sa-skandha-viṭapaiḥ) - with branches having trunks; द्रुमैः (drumaiḥ) - with trees;]
(With maces and with iron clubs also, the demon struck the monkey. The monkey also struck the demon with trees with branches and trunks.)
The demon struck the monkey with maces and iron clubs, while the monkey in turn struck the demon with trees bearing branches and trunks. (03-270-13)
ततस्तमतिकायेन साश्वं सरथसारथिम्। धूम्राक्षमवधीद्धीमान्हनूमान्मारुतात्मजः ॥०३-२७०-१४॥
tatas tam atikāyena sa-aśvam sa-ratha-sārathim | dhūmrākṣam avadhīt dhīmān hanumān mārutātmajaḥ ॥03-270-14॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; तम् (tam) - him; अतिकायेन (atikāyena) - by Atikāya; साश्वम् (sa-aśvam) - with horses; सरथसारथिम् (sa-ratha-sārathim) - with chariot and charioteer; धूम्राक्षम् (dhūmrākṣam) - Dhūmrākṣa; अवधीद् (avadhīt) - killed; धीमान् (dhīmān) - the intelligent; हनूमान् (hanumān) - Hanūmān; मारुतात्मजः (mārutātmajaḥ) - the son of the Wind-god;]
(Then him (who was) with horses, with chariot and charioteer, Dhūmrākṣa, killed the intelligent Hanūmān, son of the Wind-god.)
Then, Hanūmān, the intelligent son of the Wind-god, killed Dhūmrākṣa along with his horses, chariot, and charioteer. (03-270-14)
ततस्तं निहतं दृष्ट्वा धूम्राक्षं राक्षसोत्तमम्। हरयो जातविस्रम्भा जघ्नुरभ्येत्य सैनिकान् ॥०३-२७०-१५॥
tatas taṃ nihataṃ dṛṣṭvā dhūmrākṣaṃ rākṣasottamam। harayo jātavisrambhā jaghnur abhyetya sainikān ॥03-270-15॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; तं (taṃ) - him; निहतम् (nihatam) - slain; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; धूम्राक्षम् (dhūmrākṣam) - Dhūmrākṣa; राक्षस-उत्तमम् (rākṣasa-uttamam) - the foremost among rākṣasas; हरयः (harayaḥ) - the monkeys; जात-विस्रम्भाः (jāta-visrambhāḥ) - having become confident; जघ्नु: (jaghnuḥ) - they killed; अभ्येत्य (abhyetya) - having approached; सैनिकान् (sainikān) - the soldiers;]
(Then him slain having seen Dhūmrākṣa, the foremost among rākṣasas, the monkeys having become confident, having approached, killed the soldiers.)
Then, seeing Dhūmrākṣa, the foremost among the rākṣasas, slain, the monkeys, gaining confidence, approached and killed the soldiers. (03-270-15)
ते वध्यमाना बलिभिर्हरिभिर्जितकाशिभिः। राक्षसा भग्नसङ्कल्पा लङ्कामभ्यपतन्भयात् ॥०३-२७०-१६॥
te vadyamānā balibhir haribhir jitakāśibhiḥ। rākṣasā bhagnasaṅkalpā laṅkām abhyapatan bhayāt॥03-270-16॥
[ते (te) - they; वध्यमाना (vadhyamānā) - being slain; बलिभिः (balibhiḥ) - by the strong; हरिभिः (haribhiḥ) - by the monkeys; जितकाशिभिः (jitakāśibhiḥ) - with subdued radiance; राक्षसा (rākṣasāḥ) - rākṣasas; भग्नसङ्कल्पा (bhagnasaṅkalpāḥ) - with broken resolve; लङ्काम् (laṅkām) - to Laṅkā; अभ्यपतन् (abhyapatan) - they fled towards; भयात् (bhayāt) - out of fear;]
(They being slain by the strong monkeys with subdued radiance, the rākṣasas with broken resolve to Laṅkā fled out of fear.)
As they were being slain by the strong monkeys whose brilliance was unconquered, the rākṣasas, their resolve broken, fled to Laṅkā out of fear. (03-270-16)
तेऽभिपत्य पुरं भग्ना हतशेषा निशाचराः। सर्वं राज्ञे यथावृत्तं रावणाय न्यवेदयन् ॥०३-२७०-१७॥
te'bhipatya puraṃ bhagnā hataśeṣā niśācarāḥ। sarvaṃ rājñe yathāvṛttaṃ rāvaṇāya nyavedayan॥03-270-17॥
[ते (te) - they; (those) अभिपत्य (abhipatya) - having approached; reaching upon; पुरम् (puram) - the city; भग्नाः (bhagnāḥ) - defeated; broken; हतशेषाः (hataśeṣāḥ) - remaining after being slain; निशाचराः (niśācarāḥ) - night-dwellers; (rākṣasas; demons); सर्वम् (sarvam) - everything; all; राज्ञे (rājñe) - to the king; यथावृत्तम् (yathāvṛttam) - as had occurred; as happened; रावणाय (rāvaṇāya) - to Rāvaṇa; न्यवेदयन् (nyavedayan) - they reported; conveyed;]
(They, having approached the city, defeated, remaining after being slain, the night-dwellers, all (that had) occurred, to the king, to Rāvaṇa, they reported.)
Defeated and those rākṣasas who survived after being slain, having returned to the city, reported everything as it had happened to King Rāvaṇa. (03-270-17)
श्रुत्वा तु रावणस्तेभ्यः प्रहस्तं निहतं युधि। धूम्राक्षं च महेष्वासं ससैन्यं वानरर्षभैः ॥०३-२७०-१८॥
śrutvā tu rāvaṇas tebhyaḥ prahastaṃ nihataṃ yudhi। dhūmrākṣaṃ ca maheṣvāsaṃ sasainyaṃ vānararṣabhaiḥ ॥03-270-18॥
[श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; तु (tu) - but; रावणः (rāvaṇaḥ) - Rāvaṇa; तेभ्यः (tebhyaḥ) - from them; प्रहस्तं (prahastaṃ) - Prahasta; निहतं (nihataṃ) - slain; युधि (yudhi) - in battle; धूम्राक्षं (dhūmrākṣaṃ) - Dhūmrākṣa; च (ca) - and; महेष्वासं (maheṣvāsaṃ) - the mighty archer; ससैन्यं (sasainyaṃ) - with army; वानरर्षभैः (vānararṣabhaiḥ) - by the bull-like (chief) monkeys;]
(Having heard, but, Rāvaṇa from them Prahasta slain in battle, Dhūmrākṣa and the mighty archer with army by the chief monkeys.)
But when Rāvaṇa heard from them that Prahasta and Dhūmrākṣa, the mighty archer, along with their army, were slain in battle by the chief monkeys, (03-270-18)
सुदीर्घमिव निःश्वस्य समुत्पत्य वरासनात्। उवाच कुम्भकर्णस्य कर्मकालोऽयमागतः ॥०३-२७०-१९॥
sudīrgham iva niḥśvasya samutpatya varāsanāt। uvāca kumbhakarṇasya karmakālo' yam āgataḥ ॥03-270-19॥
[सुदीर्घम् (sudīrgham) - very long (breath); इव (iva) - as if; निःश्वस्य (niḥśvasya) - having exhaled; समुत्पत्य (samutpatya) - having arisen; वरासनात् (varāsanāt) - from the excellent seat; उवाच (uvāca) - he/she/it said; कुम्भकर्णस्य (kumbhakarṇasya) - of Kumbhakarna; कर्मकालः (karmakālaḥ) - the time for action; अयम् (ayam) - this; आगतः (āgataḥ) - has come;]
(Having exhaled as if very long, having arisen from the excellent seat, he said, "The time for action for Kumbhakarna has come." (03-270-19))
He exhaled as if with a very deep breath, rose from his excellent seat, and said, "The time for action for Kumbhakarna has arrived." (03-270-19)
इत्येवमुक्त्वा विविधैर्वादित्रैः सुमहास्वनैः। शयानमतिनिद्रालुं कुम्भकर्णमबोधयत् ॥०३-२७०-२०॥
ityevam uktvā vividhair vāditraiḥ sumahāsvanaiḥ। śayānam atinidrāluṃ kumbhakarṇam abodhayat॥03-270-20॥
[इति एवम् (iti evam) - thus; in this way; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having spoken; विविधैः (vividhaiḥ) - by various; वादित्रैः (vāditraiḥ) - musical instruments; सुमहास्वनैः (sumahāsvanaiḥ) - with very great sounds; शयानम् (śayānam) - lying down; अतिनिद्रालुं (atinidrāluṃ) - very much asleep; कुम्भकर्णम् (kumbhakarṇam) - Kumbhakarna; अबोधयत् (abodhayat) - (he/they) awoke;]
(Thus having spoken, by various musical instruments with very great sounds, lying down, very much asleep, Kumbhakarna (they) awoke.)
Thus, having said so, they awoke Kumbhakarna, who was lying down in deep sleep, using various musical instruments of great sound. (03-270-20)
प्रबोध्य महता चैनं यत्नेनागतसाध्वसः। स्वस्थमासीनमव्यग्रं विनिद्रं राक्षसाधिपः ॥ ततोऽब्रवीद्दशग्रीवः कुम्भकर्णं महाबलम् ॥०३-२७०-२१॥
prabodhya mahatā ca enaṁ yatnenāgatasādhvasaḥ। svastham āsīnam avyagraṁ vinidraṁ rākṣasādhipaḥ॥ tato'bravīd daśagrīvaḥ kumbhakarṇaṁ mahābalam॥03-270-21॥
[प्रबोध्य (prabodhya) - having awakened; महता (mahatā) - by great; च (ca) - and; एनम् (enam) - him; यत्नेन (yatnena) - with effort; आगतसाध्वसः (āgatasādhvasaḥ) - having arrived at fear; स्वस्थम् (svastham) - healthy; आसीनम् (āsīnam) - seated; अव्यग्रम् (avyagram) - unperturbed; विनिद्रम् (vinidram) - fully awake; राक्षसाधिपः (rākṣasādhipaḥ) - the king of rākṣasas; ततः (tataḥ) - then; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; दशग्रीवः (daśagrīvaḥ) - the ten-headed (Rāvaṇa); कुम्भकर्णम् (kumbhakarṇam) - Kumbhakarṇa; महाबलम् (mahābalam) - greatly powerful;]
(Having awakened him with great effort, having come to fear, the king of rākṣasas saw him healthy, seated, unperturbed, and fully awake. Then the ten-headed one (Rāvaṇa) said to the greatly powerful Kumbhakarṇa. (03-270-21))
After awakening Kumbhakarṇa with great effort, though anxious with fear, the king of the rākṣasas saw him sitting healthy, calm and fully awake. Then the ten-headed Rāvaṇa addressed the mighty Kumbhakarṇa. (03-270-21)
धन्योऽसि यस्य ते निद्रा कुम्भकर्णेयमीदृशी। य इमं दारुणं कालं न जानीषे महाभयम् ॥०३-२७०-२२॥
dhanyo'si yasya te nidrā kumbhakarṇeyam īdṛśī। ya imaṃ dāruṇaṃ kālaṃ na jānīṣe mahābhayam ॥03-270-22॥
[धन्यः (dhanyaḥ) - fortunate; असि (asi) - you are; यस्य (yasya) - of whom; ते (te) - your; निद्रा (nidrā) - sleep; कुम्भकर्णे (kumbhakarṇe) - in Kumbhakarṇa; इयम् (iyam) - this; ईदृशी (īdṛśī) - such as this; यः (yaḥ) - who; इमम् (imam) - this; दारुणम् (dāruṇam) - terrible; कालम् (kālam) - time; न (na) - not; जानीषे (jānīṣe) - you know; महाभयम् (mahābhayam) - great danger;]
(Fortunate you are of whom your sleep in Kumbhakarṇa such as this; who this terrible time does not know, great danger.)
You are indeed fortunate, whose sleep, O Kumbhakarṇa, is such as this; for you do not know of this terrible time, this great danger. (03-270-22)
एष तीर्त्वार्णवं रामः सेतुना हरिभिः सह। अवमन्येह नः सर्वान्करोति कदनं महत् ॥०३-२७०-२३॥
eṣa tīrtvā arṇavam rāmaḥ setunā haribhiḥ saha। avamany eha naḥ sarvān karoti kadanaṃ mahat॥03-270-23॥
[एष (eṣa) - this one; तीर्त्वा (tīrtvā) - having crossed; अर्णवम् (arṇavam) - the ocean; रामः (rāmaḥ) - Rama; सेतुना (setunā) - by the bridge; हरिभिः (haribhiḥ) - with the monkeys; सह (saha) - together with; अवमन् (avamanya) - disregarding; इह (iha) - here; नः (naḥ) - us; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; करोति (karoti) - does; कदनम् (kadanaṃ) - slaughter; महत् (mahat) - great;]
(This one, having crossed the ocean, Rama, by the bridge together with the monkeys, disregarding here us all, does a great slaughter.)
This Rama, having crossed the ocean by the bridge together with the monkeys, disregards all of us here and is causing great destruction. (03-270-23)
मया ह्यपहृता भार्या सीता नामास्य जानकी। तां मोक्षयिषुरायातो बद्ध्वा सेतुं महार्णवे ॥०३-२७०-२४॥
mayā hy apahṛtā bhāryā sītā nāmāsya jānaki. tāṃ mokṣayiṣur āyāto baddhvā setuṃ mahārṇave ॥03-270-24॥
[मया (mayā) - by me; हि (hi) - indeed; अपहृता (apahṛtā) - carried away; भार्या (bhāryā) - wife; सीता (sītā) - Sita; नाम (nāma) - named; अस्य (asya) - his; जानकी (jānakī) - daughter of Janaka; ताम् (tām) - her; मोक्षयिषुः (mokṣayiṣuḥ) - wishing to release; आयातः (āyataḥ) - has come; बद्ध्वा (baddhvā) - having built; सेतुम् (setum) - a bridge; महार्णवे (mahārṇave) - over the great ocean;]
(By me indeed the wife Sita, named the daughter of Janaka, has been carried away. To release her, he has come, having built a bridge over the great ocean.)
Indeed, I have carried away Sita, the wife of this man, named the daughter of Janaka. In order to release her, he has come, having built a bridge across the great ocean. (03-270-24)
तेन चैव प्रहस्तादिर्महान्नः स्वजनो हतः। तस्य नान्यो निहन्तास्ति त्वदृते शत्रुकर्शन ॥०३-२७०-२५॥
tena caiva prahastādirmahānnaḥ swajano hataḥ। tasya nānyo nihantāsti tvadṛte śatrukarśana ॥03-270-25॥
[तेन (tena) - by him; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; प्रहस्तादि: (prahastādiḥ) - Prahasta and others; महान् (mahān) - great; नः (naḥ) - our; स्वजनः (svajanaḥ) - kinsman; हतः (hataḥ) - has been slain; तस्य (tasya) - of him; न (na) - not; अन्यः (anyaḥ) - other; निहन्ता (nihantā) - slayer; अस्ति (asti) - exists; त्वदृते (tvadṛte) - except you; शत्रुकर्शन (śatrukarśana) - destroyer of foes;]
(By him indeed Prahasta and others, our great kinsman, has been slain. Of him, no other slayer exists except you, O destroyer of foes.)
It was by him that Prahasta and other great kinsmen of ours were killed. For him, there is no other slayer but you, O destroyer of enemies. (03-270-25)
स दंशितोऽभिनिर्याय त्वमद्य बलिनां वर। रामादीन्समरे सर्वाञ्जहि शत्रूनरिंदम ॥०३-२७०-२६॥
sa daṃśito'bhinir yāya tvam adya balināṃ vara। rāmādīn samare sarvān jahi śatrūn ariṃdama ॥03-270-26॥
[स (sa) - he; pace; दंशितः (daṃśitaḥ) - bitten; injured; अभिनिर्याय (abhiniryāya) - having gone forth; having departed out; त्वम् (tvam) - you; अद्य (adya) - today; बलिनाम् (balinām) - of the strong ones; वर (vara) - best; chief; रामादीन् (rāmādīn) - Rāma and others; समरे (samare) - in battle; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; जहि (jahi) - slay; शत्रून् (śatrūn) - enemies; अरिंदम (ariṃdama) - destroyer of enemies;]
(He, being bitten, having gone forth—today you, O chief of the strong, Rāma and others in battle, all enemies slay, O destroyer of foes.)
He, having been wounded, go forth now, O best among the mighty; destroy in battle all the enemies, including Rāma and the others, O destroyer of foes. (03-270-26)
दूषणावरजौ चैव वज्रवेगप्रमाथिनौ। तौ त्वां बलेन महता सहितावनुयास्यतः ॥०३-२७०-२७॥
dūṣaṇāvarjau caiva vajravegapramāthinau। tau tvāṃ balena mahatā sahitāv anuyāsyataḥ॥03-270-27॥
[दूषणावरजौ (dūṣaṇāvarjau) - Dūṣaṇa and his younger brother; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; वज्रवेगप्रमाथिनौ (vajravegapramāthinau) - having thunderbolt-like speed, mighty destroyers; तौ (tau) - the two; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; बलेन (balena) - with force; महताः (mahatā) - great; सहितौ (sahitau) - together; अनुयास्यतः (anuyāsyataḥ) - will both follow;]
(Dūṣaṇa and his younger brother, indeed, mighty destroyers with thunderbolt-like speed, the two together with great force you will both follow.)
Dūṣaṇa and his younger brother, indeed mighty and swift as a thunderbolt, will both follow you together with great force. (03-270-27)
इत्युक्त्वा राक्षसपतिः कुम्भकर्णं तरस्विनम्। संदिदेशेतिकर्तव्ये वज्रवेगप्रमाथिनौ ॥०३-२७०-२८॥
ity uktvā rāksaṣapatiḥ kumbhakarṇaṃ tarasvinam। saṃdidiśa etikartavye vajravegapramāthinau ॥03-270-28॥
[इति (iti) - thus; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having spoken; राक्षसपतिः (rākṣasapatiḥ) - the lord of the rākṣasas; कुम्भकर्णम् (kumbhakarṇam) - Kumbhakarṇa; तरस्विनम् (tarasvinam) - mighty; संदिदेश (saṃdidiśa) - he instructed; एतिकर्तव्ये (etikartavye) - regarding what should be done; वज्रवेगप्रमाथिनौ (vajravegapramāthinau) - the two who crush (the enemy) with thunderbolt-like speed;]
(Thus having spoken, the lord of the rākṣasas (addressed) mighty Kumbhakarṇa, he instructed the two who crush with thunderbolt-like speed regarding what should be done.)
Having spoken thus, the lord of the rākṣasas, addressing mighty Kumbhakarṇa, instructed the two (warriors) renowned for their thunderbolt-like speed as to what was to be done. (03-270-28)
तथेत्युक्त्वा तु तौ वीरौ रावणं दूषणानुजौ। कुम्भकर्णं पुरस्कृत्य तूर्णं निर्ययतुः पुरात् ॥०३-२७०-२९॥
tathety uktvā tu tau vīrau rāvaṇaṃ dūṣaṇānujau। kumbhakarṇaṃ puraskṛtya tūrṇaṃ niryayatuḥ purāt ॥03-270-29॥
[तथेति (tatheti) - thus; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having said; तु (tu) - but; तौ (tau) - those two; वीरौ (vīrau) - heroes; रावणं (rāvaṇam) - Rāvaṇa; दूषणानुजौ (dūṣaṇānujau) - Dūṣaṇa's younger brothers; कुम्भकर्णं (kumbhakarṇam) - Kumbhakarṇa; पुरस्कृत्य (puraskṛtya) - placing in front; तूर्णं (tūrṇam) - quickly; निर्ययतुः (niryayatuḥ) - departed; पुरात् (purāt) - from the city;]
(Thus having said, but those two heroes, Rāvaṇa, Dūṣaṇa's younger brothers, placing Kumbhakarṇa in front, quickly departed from the city.)
Having thus spoken, the two heroes, Rāvaṇa's younger brothers—Dūṣaṇa and others—quickly left the city, placing Kumbhakarṇa at the front. (03-270-29)
