ततस्ते यक्षवचनादुदतिष्ठन्त पाण्डवाः। क्षुत्पिपासे च सर्वेषां क्षणे तस्मिन्व्यगच्छताम् ॥०३-२९८-१॥
tataste yakṣavacanādudatiṣṭhanta pāṇḍavāḥ। kṣutpipāse ca sarveṣāṃ kṣaṇe tasmin vyagacchatām ॥03-298-1॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; ते (te) - they; यक्षवचनात् (yakṣavacanāt) - from the words of the Yakṣa; उदतिष्ठन्त (udatiṣṭhanta) - rose up; पाण्डवाः (pāṇḍavāḥ) - the Pāṇḍavas; क्षुत्पिपासे (kṣutpipāse) - hunger and thirst; च (ca) - and; सर्वेषां (sarveṣāṃ) - of all; क्षणे (kṣaṇe) - in an instant; तस्मिन् (tasmin) - in that; व्यगच्छताम् (vyagacchatām) - disappeared;]
(Then they, from the words of the Yakṣa, the Pāṇḍavas rose up. Hunger and thirst also of all in that instant disappeared.)
Then, following the Yakṣa's words, the Pāṇḍavas rose up, and in that very moment, everyone's hunger and thirst disappeared. (03-298-1)

(Standing unconquered in the lake with one foot, I ask: who are you, O revered one? God you are, not by me is yaksha thought you (to be).)

वसूनां वा भवानेको रुद्राणामथ वा भवान्। अथ वा मरुतां श्रेष्ठो वज्री वा त्रिदशेश्वरः ॥०३-२९८-३॥

मम हि भ्रातर इमे सहस्रशतयोधिनः। न तं योगं प्रपश्यामि येन स्युर्विनिपातिताः ॥०३-२९८-४॥
mama hi bhrātara ime sahasraśatayodhinaḥ। na taṃ yogaṃ prapaśyāmi yena syurvinipātitāḥ॥03-298-4॥
[मम (mama) - of me; हि (hi) - indeed; भ्रातर (bhrātara) - brothers; इमे (ime) - these; सहस्रशतयोधिनः (sahasraśatayodhinaḥ) - warriors in hundreds and thousands; न (na) - not; तं (taṃ) - that; योगं (yogaṃ) - means; प्रपश्यामि (prapaśyāmi) - I see; येन (yena) - by which; स्युः (syuḥ) - they would be; विनिपातिताः (vinipātitāḥ) - struck down;]
(Of me indeed brothers these warriors in hundreds and thousands; not that means I see by which they would be struck down.)
Indeed, I do not see any means by which these brothers of mine, warriors in their hundreds and thousands, would be struck down. (03-298-4)
सुखं प्रतिविबुद्धानामिन्द्रियाण्युपलक्षये। स भवान्सुहृदस्माकमथ वा नः पिता भवान् ॥०३-२९८-५॥
sukhaṁ prativibuddhānām indriyāṇi upalakṣaye। sa bhavān suhṛd asmākam atha vā naḥ pitā bhavān ॥03-298-5॥
[सुखं (sukhaṁ) - happiness; प्रतिविबुद्धानाम् (prativibuddhānām) - of those who are especially awakened; इन्द्रियाणि (indriyāṇi) - senses; उपलक्षये (upalakṣaye) - I perceive; स (sa) - he; भवान् (bhavān) - You; सुहृत् (suhṛd) - friend; अस्माकम् (asmākam) - of us; अथ (atha) - or; वा (vā) - or; नः (naḥ) - of us; पिता (pitā) - father; भवान् (bhavān) - You;]
(Happiness of those especially awakened, the senses I perceive. He You, friend of us, or or of us father You.)
I perceive happiness in the senses of those who are especially awakened. You are our friend, or rather, You are our father. (03-298-5)

ahaṃ te janakastāta dharmo mṛduparākrama। tvāṃ didṛkṣuranuprāpto viddhi māṃ bharatarṣabha ॥03-298-6॥

(I your father, dear child, righteousness, gentle in effort; you, desiring to see, has come; know me, O best of the Bharatas;)
O best of the Bharatas, know me to be your father, dear child—Dharma, gentle in effort—who has come desiring to see you. (03-298-6)
यशः सत्यं दमः शौचमार्जवं ह्रीरचापलम्। दानं तपो ब्रह्मचर्यमित्येतास्तनवो मम ॥०३-२९८-७॥
yaśaḥ satyaṃ damaḥ śaucam ārjavaṃ hrīḥ acāpalam । dānaṃ tapaḥ brahmacaryam iti etāḥ tanavaḥ mama ॥03-298-7॥

अहिंसा समता शान्तिस्तपः शौचममत्सरः। द्वाराण्येतानि मे विद्धि प्रियो ह्यसि सदा मम ॥०३-२९८-८॥
ahiṁsā samatā śāntis tapaḥ śaucam amatsaraḥ। dvārāṇi etāni me viddhi priyo hi asi sadā mama॥03-298-8॥

दिष्ट्या पञ्चसु रक्तोऽसि दिष्ट्या ते षट्पदी जिता। द्वे पूर्वे मध्यमे द्वे च द्वे चान्ते साम्परायिके ॥०३-२९८-९॥
diṣṭyā pañcasu rakto'si diṣṭyā te ṣaṭpadī jitā। dve pūrve madhyame dve ca dve cānte sāmparāyike ॥03-298-9॥
[दिष्ट्या (diṣṭyā) - by fortune; by auspiciousness; पञ्चसु (pañcasu) - in the five; among five; रक्तः (raktaḥ) - reddened; bloodied; attached; असि (asi) - you are; दिष्ट्या (diṣṭyā) - by fortune; by auspiciousness; ते (te) - by you; षट्पदी (ṣaṭpadī) - six-stepped (die); a throw yielding six; bee (but here: die); जिता (jitā) - is won; has been conquered; द्वे (dve) - two; पूर्वे (pūrve) - at first; former; earlier; मध्यमे (madhyame) - in the middle; द्वे (dve) - two; च (ca) - and; द्वे (dve) - two; च (ca) - and; अन्ते (ante) - at the end; साम्परायिके (sāmparāyike) - concerning fate; relating to a contest (game);]
(By fortune, in five you are reddened; by fortune, by you the six-stepped die is won. Two at first, two in the middle, and two also at the end in the contest.)
By good fortune, you have become victorious in all five stages; by good fortune, you have won the game of six-staked dice. Two at the beginning, two in the middle, and two at the end in this contest. (03-298-9)
धर्मोऽहमस्मि भद्रं ते जिज्ञासुस्त्वामिहागतः। आनृशंस्येन तुष्टोऽस्मि वरं दास्यामि तेऽनघ ॥०३-२९८-१०॥
dharmo'hamasmi bhadraṁ te jijñāsustvāmihāgataḥ. ānṛśaṁsyena tuṣṭo'smi varaṁ dāsyāmi te'nagha ॥03-298-10॥
[धर्मः (dharmaḥ) - righteousness; virtue; अहम् (aham) - I; अस्मि (asmi) - am; भद्रं (bhadraṁ) - good fortune; well-being; ते (te) - to you; for you; जिज्ञासुः (jijñāsuḥ) - one who seeks to know; inquirer; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; इह (iha) - here; आगतः (āgataḥ) - has come; आनृशंस्येन (ānṛśaṁsyena) - by compassion; by non-cruelty; तुष्टः (tuṣṭaḥ) - pleased; अस्मि (asmi) - am; वरं (varaṁ) - boon; gift; दास्यामि (dāsyāmi) - I shall give; ते (te) - to you; अनघ (anagha) - O sinless one;]
(Righteousness I am; good fortune to you; one who seeks to know, you here have come. By compassion pleased am I; boon I shall give to you, O sinless one.)
I am righteousness; good fortune to you! You have come here, seeking knowledge. Because of your compassion I am pleased; I shall grant you a boon, O sinless one. (03-298-10)
वरं वृणीष्व राजेन्द्र दाता ह्यस्मि तवानघ। ये हि मे पुरुषा भक्ता न तेषामस्ति दुर्गतिः ॥०३-२९८-११॥
varaṃ vṛṇīṣva rājendra dātā hyasmi tavānagha। ye hi me puruṣā bhaktā na teṣāmasti durgatiḥ॥03-298-11॥
[वरम् (varam) - boon; वृणीष्व (vṛṇīṣva) - choose; राजेन्द्र (rājendra) - O king; दाता (dātā) - giver; हि (hi) - indeed; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; तव (tava) - your; अनघ (anagha) - O sinless one; ये (ye) - who; हि (hi) - indeed; मे (me) - of me; पुरुषाः (puruṣāḥ) - men; भक्ताः (bhaktāḥ) - devoted; न (na) - not; तेषाम् (teṣām) - for them; अस्ति (asti) - is; दुर्गतिः (durgatiḥ) - misfortune;]
(Boon choose O king giver indeed I am your O sinless one. Who indeed of me men devoted not for them is misfortune.)
O king, choose a boon. I am indeed your giver, O sinless one. For those men devoted to me, there is no misfortune for them. (03-298-11)

araṇī-sahitaṃ yasya mṛga ādāya gacchati। tasyāgnayo na lupyeran prathamo'stu varo mama॥03-298-12॥
[अरणीसहितं (araṇī-sahitaṃ) - together with the fire-sticks; यस्य (yasya) - of whom; मृगः (mṛgaḥ) - the deer; आदाय (ādāya) - having taken; गच्छति (gacchati) - goes; तस्य (tasya) - of him; अग्नयः (agnayaḥ) - the fires; न (na) - not; लुप्येरन् (lupyeran) - should be lost; प्रथमः (prathamaḥ) - first; अस्तु (astu) - let it be; वरः (varaḥ) - boon; मम (mama) - my;]
(Together with the fire-sticks, of whom the deer, having taken, goes; of him the fires should not be lost; let this be the first boon of mine.)
May the fires belonging to him from whom the deer goes carrying the fire-sticks not be lost; let this be my first boon. (03-298-12)

(Together with the fire-sticks, of that brāhmaṇa, taken by me. In the form of a deer, O son of Kunti, for the sake of enquiry, of you, O master.)
The fire-sticks of that brāhmaṇa were taken by me together, in the form of a deer, O son of Kunti, for the purpose of testing you, O lord. (03-298-13)

[ददानीति (dadānīti) - ‘I shall give’ thus; एव (eva) - indeed; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the Lord; उत्तरं (uttaraṃ) - reply; प्रत्यपद्यत (pratyapadyata) - accepted; अन्यं (anyaṃ) - another; वरय (varaya) - choose; भद्रं (bhadraṃ) - good; ते (te) - to you; वरं (varaṃ) - boon; त्वम् (tvam) - you; अमर-उपमम् (amara-upamam) - equal to the immortals;]
(‘I shall give’, indeed, the Lord accepted the reply. Choose another boon, good to you, a boon you (already received is) equal to the immortals.)
‘I shall give’, thus indeed, the Lord accepted the reply. Choose another boon which will be auspicious for you, for the boon you have chosen is already equal to that of the immortals. (03-298-14)

varṣāṇi dvādaśāraṇye trayodaśamupasthitam। tatra no nābhijānīyurvasato manujāḥ kvacit ॥03-298-15॥
[वर्षाणि (varṣāṇi) - years; द्वादश (dvādaśa) - twelve; अरण्ये (araṇye) - in the forest; त्रयोदशम् (trayodaśam) - the thirteenth; उपस्थितम् (upasthitam) - has arrived; तत्र (tatra) - there; नः (naḥ) - us; न (na) - not; अभिजानीयुः (abhijānīyuḥ) - should recognize; वसतः (vasataḥ) - dwelling; मनुजाः (manujāḥ) - men; क्वचित् (kvacit) - at any time;]
(years twelve in the forest the thirteenth has arrived; there us not should recognize dwelling men at any time.)
After twelve years in the forest, the thirteenth has arrived. There, no men should recognize us at any time while dwelling. (03-298-15)

dadānītyeva bhagavān uttaraṁ pratyapadyata। bhūyaś cāśvāsayāmāsa kaunteyaṁ satyavikramam ॥03-298-16॥
[ददानीति (dadānīti) - I shall give—thus; एव (eva) - indeed; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the Lord; उत्तरं (uttaram) - the reply; प्रत्यपद्यत (pratyapadyata) - accepted; भूयः (bhūyaḥ) - again; च (ca) - and; आश्वासयामास (āśvāsayāmāsa) - encouraged; कौन्तेयम् (kaunteyam) - Kaunteya (son of Kunti); सत्यविक्रमम् (satyavikramam) - of true valor;]
(I shall give—thus indeed, the Lord accepted the reply. Again and also, encouraged Kaunteya of true valor.)
The Lord accepted the reply, "I shall give," and again encouraged Kaunteya, who was of true valor. (03-298-16)
यद्यपि स्वेन रूपेण चरिष्यथ महीमिमाम्। न वो विज्ञास्यते कश्चित्त्रिषु लोकेषु भारत ॥०३-२९८-१७॥
yadyapi svena rūpeṇa cariṣyatha mahīm imām। na vo vijñāsyate kaścit triṣu lokeṣu bhārata॥03-298-17॥
[यद्यपि (yadyapi) - although; स्वेन (svena) - by your own; रूपेण (rūpeṇa) - in form; चरिष्यथ (cariṣyatha) - you will move; महीम् (mahīm) - earth; इमाम् (imām) - this; न (na) - not; वः (vaḥ) - you (of you, plural); विज्ञास्यते (vijñāsyate) - will be recognized; कश्चित् (kaścit) - anyone; त्रिषु (triṣu) - in three; लोकेषु (lokeṣu) - worlds; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata;]
(Although by your own form you will move on this earth, not of you will anyone recognize in the three worlds, O Bhārata.)
O Bhārata, although you will move upon this earth in your own form, no one in the three worlds will recognize you. (03-298-17)
वर्षं त्रयोदशं चेदं मत्प्रसादात्कुरूद्वहाः। विराटनगरे गूढा अविज्ञाताश्चरिष्यथ ॥०३-२९८-१८॥
varṣaṃ trayodaśaṃ cedam matprasādāt kurūdvahāḥ. virāṭanagare gūḍhā avijñātāś cariṣyatha ॥03-298-18॥
[वर्षम् (varṣam) - year; त्रयोदशम् (trayodaśam) - thirteenth; च (ca) - and; इदम् (idam) - this; मत्प्रसादात् (matprasādāt) - by my grace; कुरूद्वहाः (kurūdvahāḥ) - O leaders of the Kuru (Pandavas); विराटनगरे (virāṭanagare) - in the city of Virata; गूढाः (gūḍhāḥ) - hidden; अविज्ञाताः (avijñātāḥ) - unrecognized; चरिष्यथ (cariṣyatha) - you shall live (move about);]
(Year thirteenth and this by my grace, O leaders of the Kuru, in the city of Virata, hidden, unrecognized, you shall live.)
O leaders of the Kuru, by my grace, in this thirteenth year, you will dwell hidden and unknown in the city of Virata. (03-298-18)
यद्वः सङ्कल्पितं रूपं मनसा यस्य यादृशम्। तादृशं तादृशं सर्वे छन्दतो धारयिष्यथ ॥०३-२९८-१९॥
yad vaḥ saṅkalpitaṃ rūpaṃ manasā yasya yādṛśam। tādṛśaṃ tādṛśaṃ sarve chandato dhārayiṣyatha॥03-298-19॥
[यत् (yat) - which; वः (vaḥ) - for you; सङ्कल्पितं (saṅkalpitam) - desired; conceived; रूपं (rūpam) - form; मनसा (manasā) - with the mind; यस्य (yasya) - of whom; whose; यादृशम् (yādṛśam) - such; as; तादृशं (tādṛśam) - such; of that kind; तादृशं (tādṛśam) - such; of that kind; सर्वे (sarve) - all; छन्दतः (chandataḥ) - at will; as desired; धारयिष्यथ (dhārayiṣyatha) - you will assume; you will bear;]
(Which for you form is desired with the mind, of whom as, such such all at will you will assume.)
Whatever form each of you desires in your mind, such forms, all of you will be able to assume at will. (03-298-19)
अरणीसहितं चेदं ब्राह्मणाय प्रयच्छत। जिज्ञासार्थं मया ह्येतदाहृतं मृगरूपिणा ॥०३-२९८-२०॥
araṇī-sahitaṁ ca idaṁ brāhmaṇāya prayacchata. jijñāsārthaṁ mayā hi etad āhṛtaṁ mṛga-rūpiṇā ॥03-298-20॥
[अरणीसहितं (araṇī-sahitam) - with the araṇi-sticks; च (ca) - and; इदं (idaṁ) - this; ब्राह्मणाय (brāhmaṇāya) - to the Brāhmaṇa; प्रयच्छत (prayacchata) - give; जिज्ञासार्थं (jijñāsārtham) - for the sake of inquiry; मया (mayā) - by me; हि (hi) - indeed; एतत् (etat) - this; आहृतं (āhṛtam) - was brought; मृगरूपिणा (mṛgarūpiṇā) - with the form of a deer;]
(With the araṇi-sticks, and this, to the Brāhmaṇa give. For the sake of inquiry, by me indeed, this was brought in the form of a deer.)
Give these, along with the araṇi-sticks, to the Brāhmaṇa. It was indeed brought by me in the form of a deer for the sake of inquiry. (03-298-20)
तृतीयं गृह्यतां पुत्र वरमप्रतिमं महत्। त्वं हि मत्प्रभवो राजन्विदुरश्च ममांशभाक् ॥०३-२९८-२१॥
tṛtīyaṃ gṛhyatāṃ putra varamapratimaṃ mahat। tvaṃ hi matprabhavo rājan viduraś ca mamāṃśabhāk॥03-298-21॥
[तृतीयं (tṛtīyam) - third; गृह्यताम् (gṛhyatām) - may be accepted; पुत्र (putra) - son; वरम् (varam) - boon; अप्रतिमं (apratimam) - unequalled; महत् (mahat) - great; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; हि (hi) - indeed; मत्प्रभवः (matprabhavaḥ) - of my origin; राजन् (rājan) - O king; विदुरः (viduraḥ) - Vidura; च (ca) - and; मम (mama) - my; अंशभाक् (aṃśabhāk) - partaker of (my) part;]
(Let the third, great, unequalled boon be accepted, O son. Indeed you are of my origin, O king, and Vidura is also a partaker of my part.)
O son, let the third, great and unequalled boon be accepted. For you, O king, are of my origin, and Vidura too partakes of my portion. (03-298-21)

देवदेवो मया दृष्टो भवान्साक्षात्सनातनः। यं ददासि वरं तुष्टस्तं ग्रहीष्याम्यहं पितः ॥०३-२९८-२२॥
devadevo mayā dṛṣṭo bhavān sākṣāt sanātanaḥ। yaṃ dadāsi varaṃ tuṣṭas taṃ grahīṣyāmy ahaṃ pitaḥ॥03-298-22॥
[देवदेवः (devadevaḥ) - O god of gods; मया (mayā) - by me; दृष्टः (dṛṣṭaḥ) - seen; भवान् (bhavān) - you; साक्षात् (sākṣāt) - directly; सनातनः (sanātanaḥ) - eternal; यं (yaṃ) - which; ददासि (dadāsi) - you give; वरं (varaṃ) - boon; तुष्टः (tuṣṭaḥ) - being pleased; तम् (tam) - that; ग्रहिष्याम् (grahīṣyām) - I shall accept; अहम् (aham) - I; पितः (pitaḥ) - O father;]
(O god of gods, by me seen you directly eternal. Which you give boon being pleased, that I shall accept, I, O father.)
O god of gods, you, the eternal one, have been seen directly by me. The boon which you offer me in your pleasure, that I shall accept, O father. (03-298-22)
जयेयं लोभमोहौ च क्रोधं चाहं सदा विभो। दाने तपसि सत्ये च मनो मे सततं भवेत् ॥०३-२९८-२३॥
jayeyaṃ lobhamohau ca krodhaṃ cāhaṃ sadā vibho. dāne tapasi satye ca mano me satataṃ bhavet ॥03-298-23॥
[जयेयम् (jayeyam) - may conquer; लोभमोहौ (lobhamohau) - greed and delusion; च (ca) - and; क्रोधम् (krodham) - anger; च (ca) - and; अहम् (aham) - I; सदा (sadā) - always; विभो (vibho) - O Lord; दाने (dāne) - in charity; तपसि (tapasi) - in austerity; सत्ये (satye) - in truth; च (ca) - and; मन् (mano) - mind; मे (me) - my; सततं (satataṃ) - always; भवेत् (bhavet) - may be;]
(May I always conquer greed and delusion and anger, O Lord; in charity, austerity, and truth, may my mind always be.)
O Lord, may I always conquer greed, delusion, and anger; may my mind ever remain in charity, austerity, and truth. (03-298-23)

उपपन्नो गुणैः सर्वैः स्वभावेनासि पाण्डव। भवान्धर्मः पुनश्चैव यथोक्तं ते भविष्यति ॥०३-२९८-२४॥
upapanno guṇaiḥ sarvaiḥ svabhāvenāsi pāṇḍava। bhavān dharmaḥ punaś caiva yathoktaṃ te bhaviṣyati॥03-298-24॥
[उपपन्नः (upapannaḥ) - endowed; गुणैः (guṇaiḥ) - with qualities; सर्वैः (sarvaiḥ) - all; स्वभावेन (svabhāvena) - by nature; असि (asi) - you are; पाण्डव (pāṇḍava) - O Pāṇḍava; भवान् (bhavān) - you; धर्मः (dharmaḥ) - dharma; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; यथोक्तम् (yathoktam) - as stated; ते (te) - to you; भविष्यति (bhaviṣyati) - will be;]
(Endowed with all qualities by nature you are, O Pāṇḍava. You are dharma again indeed, as stated, to you it will be. (03-298-24))
O Pāṇḍava, you are endowed with all qualities by your nature. You are indeed dharma itself, and, as has been declared, this will come to you again. (03-298-24)
वैशम्पायन उवाच॥

इत्युक्त्वान्तर्दधे धर्मो भगवाँल्लोकभावनः। समेताः पाण्डवाश्चैव सुखसुप्ता मनस्विनः ॥०३-२९८-२५॥
ity-uktvā-antardadhe dharmo bhagavān loka-bhāvanaḥ। sametāḥ pāṇḍavāś ca eva sukha-su ptā manasvinaḥ॥03-298-25॥
[इति (iti) - thus; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having spoken; अन्तर्दधे (antardadhe) - disappeared; धर्मः (dharmaḥ) - Dharma; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the revered one; लोकभावनः (loka-bhāvanaḥ) - creator of the worlds; समेताः (sametāḥ) - gathered; पाण्डवाः (pāṇḍavāḥ) - the Pāṇḍavas; चैव (ca eva) - and indeed; सुखसुप्ताः (sukha-suptāḥ) - comfortably sleeping; मनस्विनः (manasvinaḥ) - noble-minded ones;]
(Thus having spoken, disappeared Dharma, the revered creator of the worlds. Gathered, the Pāṇḍavas indeed, comfortably sleeping, the noble-minded ones.)
Having thus spoken, Dharma, the revered creator of the worlds, disappeared. The noble-minded Pāṇḍavas, all together, slept comfortably. (03-298-25)
अभ्येत्य चाश्रमं वीराः सर्व एव गतक्लमाः। आरणेयं ददुस्तस्मै ब्राह्मणाय तपस्विने ॥०३-२९८-२६॥
abhyetya cāśramaṃ vīrāḥ sarva eva gataklamāḥ. āraṇeyaṃ dadustasmai brāhmaṇāya tapasvine ॥03-298-26॥
[अभ्येत्य (abhyetya) - having approached; च (ca) - and; आश्रमं (āśramam) - hermitage; वीराः (vīrāḥ) - heroes; सर्व एव (sarva eva) - all indeed; गतक्लमाः (gataklamāḥ) - having overcome fatigue; आरणेयं (āraṇeyam) - made by friction of sticks (sacrificial fire); ददुः (daduḥ) - gave; तस्मै (tasmai) - to him; ब्राह्मणाय (brāhmaṇāya) - to the Brahmin; तपस्विने (tapasvine) - to the ascetic;]
(Having approached and (the) hermitage, heroes, all indeed, having overcome fatigue, gave the fire (produced) by friction of sticks to him, to the Brahmin, to the ascetic.)
Having come to the hermitage, all the heroes, their fatigue gone, gave the fire produced by friction of sticks to the ascetic Brahmin. (03-298-26)
इदं समुत्थानसमागमं मह; त्पितुश्च पुत्रस्य च कीर्तिवर्धनम्। पठन्नरः स्याद्विजितेन्द्रियो वशी; सपुत्रपौत्रः शतवर्षभाग्भवेत् ॥०३-२९८-२७॥
idaṁ samutthānasamāgamaṁ maha; t pituś ca putrasya ca kīrtivardhanam। paṭhannaraḥ syād vijitendriyo vaśī; saputrapautraḥ śatavarṣabhāgbhavet ॥03-298-27॥
[इदं (idaṁ) - this; समुत्थानसमागमं (samutthānasamāgamam) - arising-together union; महत् (mahat) - great; पितुश्च (pituś ca) - of the father and; पुत्रस्य (putrasya) - of the son; च (ca) - and; कीर्तिवर्धनम् (kīrtivardhanam) - fame-increasing; पठन् (paṭhan) - reciting; नरः (naraḥ) - man; स्यात् (syāt) - might become; विजितेन्द्रियः (vijitendriyaḥ) - one whose senses are conquered; वशी (vaśī) - self-controlled; सपुत्रपौत्रः (saputrapautraḥ) - together-with-son-and-grandson; शतवर्षभाग् (śatavarṣabhāg) - one who obtains a span of a hundred years; भवेत् (bhavet) - may become;]
(This arising-together union, great, of the father and of the son also, fame-increasing; reciting, man might become one whose senses are conquered, self-controlled; with son and grandson, one who obtains a span of a hundred years may become.)
This great union of auspicious ascent, increasing the fame of both father and son—whoever recites it, being self-controlled with mastered senses, may enjoy with sons and grandsons a lifespan of a hundred years. (03-298-27)
न चाप्यधर्मे न सुहृद्विभेदने; परस्वहारे परदारमर्शने। कदर्यभावे न रमेन्मनः सदा; नृणां सदाख्यानमिदं विजानताम् ॥०३-२९८-२८॥
na cāpy adharme na suhṛd-vibhedane; parasvahāre paradāramarśane. kadaryabhāve na ramet manaḥ sadā; nṛṇāṃ sadākhyānam idaṃ vijānatām ॥03-298-28॥
[न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; अधर्मे (adharme) - in unrighteousness; न (na) - not; सुहृद्-विभेदने (suhṛd-vibhedane) - in causing division among friends; परस्वहारे (parasvahāre) - in taking another's wealth; परदारमर्शने (paradāramarśane) - in coveting another's wife; कदर्यभावे (kadaryabhāve) - in a miserly disposition; न (na) - not; रमेत् (ramet) - should delight; मनः (manaḥ) - the mind; सदा (sadā) - always; नृणां (nṛṇāṃ) - of men; सदा-akhyānam (sadākhyānam) - the constant principle; इदं (idaṃ) - this; विजानताम् (vijānatām) - of those who are wise;]
(Not and also in unrighteousness, not in causing division among friends; in taking another's wealth, in coveting another's wife. In a miserly disposition, not should the mind always delight; of men, this constant principle of those who are wise.)
Let the mind never delight in unrighteousness, in creating disputes among friends, in seizing others' wealth, in coveting others' wives, or in a miserly spirit—this is the unchanging rule for the wise among men. (03-298-28)
