ततो विराटं प्रथमं युधिष्ठिरो; राजा सभायामुपविष्टमाव्रजत्। वैडूर्यरूपान्प्रतिमुच्य काञ्चना; नक्षान्स कक्षे परिगृह्य वाससा ॥०४-६-१॥
tato virāṭaṃ prathamaṃ yudhiṣṭhiro; rājā sabhāyām upaviṣṭam āvrajat। vaiḍūrya-rūpān pratimucya kāñcanā; nakṣān sa kakṣe parigṛhya vāsasā ॥04-6-1॥

(Then Virāṭa first, Yudhiṣṭhira the king in the assembly, having approached the seated (one), having adorned golden ornaments of the form of beryl, he having placed (them) at his side with his garment.)
Then King Yudhiṣṭhira, in the assembly, was the first to approach Virāṭa, who sat there, having adorned himself with golden ornaments like beryl, and having placed them at his side with his garment. (4-6-1)
नराधिपो राष्ट्रपतिं यशस्विनं; महायशाः कौरववंशवर्धनः। महानुभावो नरराजसत्कृतो; दुरासदस्तीक्ष्णविषो यथोरगः ॥०४-६-२॥
narādhipo rāṣṭrapatiṁ yaśasvinaṁ; mahāyaśāḥ kauravavaṁśavardhanaḥ. mahānubhāvo nararājasatkṛto; durāsadastīkṣṇaviṣo yathoragaḥ ॥04-6-2॥
[नराधिपः (narādhipaḥ) - king of men; राष्ट्रपतिम् (rāṣṭrapatim) - protector of the kingdom; यशस्विनम् (yaśasvinam) - illustrious; महायशाः (mahāyaśāḥ) - of great fame; कौरववंशवर्धनः (kauravavaṁśavardhanaḥ) - increaser of the Kaurava lineage; महानुभावः (mahānubhāvaḥ) - of great dignity; नरराजसत्कृतः (nararājasatkṛtaḥ) - honored by kings of men; दुरासदः (durāsadaḥ) - difficult to approach; तीक्ष्णविषः (tīkṣṇaviṣaḥ) - having sharp venom; यथा (yathā) - as; उरगः (uragaḥ) - serpent;]
(The king of men, protector of the kingdom, illustrious; of great fame, increaser of the Kaurava lineage. Of great dignity, honored by kings of men; difficult to approach, having sharp venom, like a serpent. (04-6-2))
The king of men, a glorious protector of his realm and great in fame, who advanced the Kaurava line, possessed great dignity and was honored by all monarchs; he was as unapproachable and as fiercely poisonous as a serpent. (04-6-2)
बालेन रूपेण नरर्षभो महा; नथार्चिरूपेण यथामरस्तथा। महाभ्रजालैरिव संवृतो रवि; र्यथानलो भस्मवृतश्च वीर्यवान् ॥०४-६-३॥
bālena rūpeṇa naraṛṣabho mahā; nathārcirūpeṇa yathāmarastathā। mahābhrajālairiva saṃvṛto ravi; ryathānalo bhasmavṛtaśca vīryavān ॥04-6-3॥
[बालेन (bālena) - by the form of a youth; रूपेण (rūpeṇa) - by form; नरर्षभः (naraṛṣabhaḥ) - the bull among men; महा (mahā) - great; नथार्चिरूपेण (nathārcirūpeṇa) - by the form of blazing flame; यथा (yathā) - just as; अमरः (amaraḥ) - immortal (god); तथा (tathā) - so, in that way; महाभ्रजालैः (mahābhrajālaiḥ) - by great arrays of clouds; इव (iva) - like; संवृतः (saṃvṛtaḥ) - enveloped; रवि (ravi) - sun; यथा (yathā) - as; अनलः (analaḥ) - fire; भस्मवृतः (bhasmavṛtaḥ) - enveloped by ashes; च (ca) - and; वीर्यवान् (vīryavān) - full of energy (the powerful one);]
(By the form of a youth, the bull among men, great; just as by the form of blazing flame, like the immortal so; by great arrays of clouds like enveloped the sun; as fire enveloped by ashes and powerful.)
Great was the bull among men, in the form of a youth; just as the immortal shines with the form of blazing flame. He was enveloped by great arrays of clouds like the sun is, and was as powerful as fire covered with ashes. (04-6-3)
तमापतन्तं प्रसमीक्ष्य पाण्डवं; विराटराडिन्दुमिवाभ्रसंवृतम्। मन्त्रिद्विजान्सूतमुखान्विशस्तथा; ये चापि केचित्परिषत्समासते ॥ पप्रच्छ कोऽयं प्रथमं समेयिवा; ननेन योऽयं प्रसमीक्षते सभाम् ॥०४-६-४॥
tam āpatantaṃ prasamīkṣya pāṇḍavaṃ; virāṭarāḍ indum ivābhra-saṃvṛtam। mantri-dvijān sūta-mukhān viśas tathā; ye ca api kecit pariṣat samāsate ॥ papraccha ko'yaṃ prathamaṃ sameyivā; na nena yo'yaṃ prasamīkṣate sabhām ॥04-6-4॥
[तम् (tam) - him; आपतन्तम् (āpatantam) - approaching; प्रसमीक्ष्य (prasamīkṣya) - having closely observed; पाण्डवम् (pāṇḍavam) - the Pāṇḍava; विराट-राट् (virāṭarāṭ) - King Virāṭa; इन्दुम् (indum) - the moon; इव (iva) - like; आभ्र-संवृतम् (ābhra-saṃvṛtam) - covered by clouds; मन्त्रि-द्विजान् (mantri-dvijān) - ministers and Brāhmaṇas; सूत-मुखान् (sūta-mukhān) - heralds and others (sūta chiefs); विशः (viśaḥ) - other people; तथा (tathā) - also; ये (ye) - those who; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - even; केचित् (kecit) - some; परिषद्-समासते (pariṣat-samāsate) - were seated in the assembly; पप्रच्छ (papraccha) - asked; कः (kaḥ) - who; अयम् (ayam) - this; प्रथमम् (prathamam) - first; समेयिवा (sameyivā) - has arrived; न (na) - not; नेन (nena) - by him; यः (yaḥ) - who; अयम् (ayam) - this; प्रसमीक्षते (prasamīkṣate) - regards attentively; सभाम् (sabhām) - assembly;]
(Him approaching having closely observed the Pāṇḍava, King Virāṭa like the moon covered by clouds, (to) ministers and Brāhmaṇas, heralds and other people also, those who and even some who were seated in the assembly, asked: Who is this who first has arrived? Not by him, this one attentively regards the assembly.)
Observing the approaching Pāṇḍava, King Virāṭa—like the moon covered by clouds—asked the ministers, Brāhmaṇas, heralds, and others present in the assembly (as well as some gentlemen): 'Who is this who has come first? By him, why does this one gaze intently at the assembly?' (04-6-4)
न तु द्विजोऽयं भविता नरोत्तमः; पतिः पृथिव्या इति मे मनोगतम्। न चास्य दासो न रथो न कुण्डले; समीपतो भ्राजति चायमिन्द्रवत् ॥०४-६-५॥
na tu dvijo'yaṁ bhavitā narottamaḥ; patiḥ pṛthivyā iti me manogatam। na cāsya dāso na ratho na kuṇḍale; samīpato bhrājati cāyam indravat ॥04-6-5॥
[न (na) - not; तु (tu) - but; द्विजः (dvijaḥ) - twice-born; अयं (ayaṁ) - this; भविता (bhavitā) - will be; नर-उत्तमः (nara-uttamaḥ) - best of men; पतिः (patiḥ) - lord; पृथिव्या (pṛthivyāḥ) - of the earth; इति (iti) - thus; मे (me) - to me; मनः-गतम् (manaḥ-gatam) - occurred in mind; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; अस्य (asya) - of him; दासः (dāsaḥ) - servant; न (na) - not; रथः (rathaḥ) - chariot; न (na) - not; कुण्डले (kuṇḍale) - ear-rings; समीपतः (samīpataḥ) - from near; भ्राजति (bhrājati) - shines; च (ca) - and; अयम् (ayam) - this; इन्द्रवत् (indravat) - like Indra;]
(Not but twice-born this will be, best of men; lord of the earth thus to me occurred in mind. Not and of him servant, not chariot, not ear-rings; from near shines and this like Indra.)
But this best of men will not become a twice-born; lord of the earth—so it has occurred in my mind. Nor has he a servant, nor a chariot, nor ear-rings; yet from nearby, he shines like Indra. (04-6-5)
शरीरलिङ्गैरुपसूचितो ह्ययं; मूर्धाभिषिक्तोऽयमितीव मानसम्। समीपमायाति च मे गतव्यथो; यथा गजस्तामरसीं मदोत्कटः ॥०४-६-६॥
śarīra-liṅgair upasūcito hy ayaṃ; mūrdhābhiṣikto' yam itīva mānasam। samīpam āyāti ca me gata-vyathaḥ; yathā gajas tāmarasīṃ madotkaṭaḥ ॥04-6-6॥
[शरीरलिङ्गैः (śarīra-liṅgaiḥ) - by bodily characteristics; उपसूचितः (upasūcitaḥ) - indicated; hinted; हि (hi) - indeed; अयम् (ayam) - this (one); मूर्धाभिषिक्तः (mūrdhābhiṣiktaḥ) - anointed on the head; अयम् (ayam) - this (one); इति (iti) - thus; इव (iva) - as if; मानसम् (mānasam) - the mind; समीपम् (samīpam) - near; आयाति (āyāti) - approaches; comes; च (ca) - and; मे (me) - my; गतव्यथः (gata-vyathaḥ) - free from pain; यथा (yathā) - just as; गजः (gajaḥ) - elephant; तामरसीम् (tāmarasīm) - lotus pond; मदोत्कटः (madotkaṭaḥ) - intoxicated (by rut);]
(By bodily characteristics indeed this (one) is indicated; anointed on the head, this (one)—thus as if the mind; near approaches and my free-from-pain, just as an elephant (to) a lotus-pond intoxicated.)
By bodily marks, indeed, this one is indicated; crowned on the head, this very one—as if so, my mind, free from pain, draws near, just as an elephant filled with rut approaches the lotus pond. (04-6-6)
वितर्कयन्तं तु नरर्षभस्तदा; युधिष्ठिरोऽभ्येत्य विराटमब्रवीत्। सम्राड्विजानात्विह जीवितार्थिनं; विनष्टसर्वस्वमुपागतं द्विजम् ॥०४-६-७॥
vitarkayantaṃ tu naraṛṣabhas tadā; yudhiṣṭhiro'bhyetya virāṭam abravīt. samrāḍ vijānāt viha jīvitārthinaṃ; vinaṣṭasarvasvam upāgataṃ dvijam ॥04-6-7॥
[वितर्कयन्तं (vitarkayantaṃ) - deliberating; considering; तु (tu) - but; नरर्षभः (naraṛṣabhaḥ) - bull among men; तदा (tadā) - then; युधिष्ठिरः (yudhiṣṭhiraḥ) - Yudhiṣṭhira; अभ्येत्य (abhyetya) - having approached; विराटम् (virāṭam) - Virāṭa (the king); अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke; सम्राट् (samrāṭ) - O emperor; विजानातु (vijānātu) - let (him) know; इह (iha) - here; जीवितार्थिनम् (jīvitārthinam) - one seeking livelihood; विनष्टसर्वस्वम् (vinaṣṭasarvasvam) - whose all is lost; उपागतम् (upāgatam) - arrived; द्विजम् (dvijam) - brāhmaṇa;]
(Considering but, bull among men then, Yudhiṣṭhira having approached Virāṭa spoke: 'O emperor, let (him) know here, one seeking livelihood, whose all is lost, (has) arrived, the brāhmaṇa.' (04-6-7))
But then, the bull among men Yudhiṣṭhira, having approached King Virāṭa, spoke: 'O emperor, let it be known here that a Brāhmaṇa, who has lost everything and is seeking a means to live, has arrived.' (04-6-7)
इहाहमिच्छामि तवानघान्तिके; वस्तुं यथा कामचरस्तथा विभो। तमब्रवीत्स्वागतमित्यनन्तरं; राजा प्रहृष्टः प्रतिसङ्गृहाण च ॥०४-६-८॥
ihāham icchāmi tavānaghāntike; vastuṃ yathā kāmacaras tathā vibho. tam abravīt svāgatam ity anantaraṃ; rājā prahṛṣṭaḥ pratisaṅgṛhāṇa ca ॥04-6-8॥
[इह (iha) - here; अहम् (aham) - I; इच्छामि (icchāmi) - wish; तव (tava) - to you; अनघ (anagha) - O sinless one; अन्तिके (antike) - near; वस्तुम् (vastum) - to dwell; यथा (yathā) - as; कामचरः (kāmacaraḥ) - moving (living) as I please; तथा (tathā) - so; विभो (vibho) - O lord; तम् (tam) - to him; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - he said; स्वागतम् (svāgatam) - welcome; इति (iti) - thus; अनन्तरं (anantaram) - immediately; राजा (rājā) - the king; प्रहृष्टः (prahṛṣṭaḥ) - glad; प्रतिसङ्गृहाण (pratisaṅgṛhāṇa) - accept (my hospitality); च (ca) - and;]
(Here I wish to dwell near you, O sinless one, as one who moves as he pleases, so, O lord. To him, the king, glad, immediately said, "Welcome," and "Please accept (my hospitality)." (04-6-8))
I wish to stay here near you, O sinless one, and live as I please, O lord. The king, overjoyed, immediately said to him, "Welcome!" and "Please accept my hospitality." (04-6-8)
कामेन ताताभिवदाम्यहं त्वां; कस्यासि राज्ञो विषयादिहागतः। गोत्रं च नामापि च शंस तत्त्वतः; किं चापि शिल्पं तव विद्यते कृतम् ॥०४-६-९॥
kāmena tātābhivadāmyahaṃ tvāṃ; kasyāsi rājño viṣayādihāgataḥ. gotraṃ ca nāmāpi ca śaṃsa tattvataḥ; kiṃ cāpi śilpaṃ tava vidyate kṛtam ॥04-6-9॥
[कामेन (kāmena) - with desire; or due to desire; तात (tāta) - O dear (term of affection); अभिवदामि (abhivadāmi) - I greet; अहं (ahaṃ) - I; त्वां (tvāṃ) - you; कस्य (kasya) - whose; असि (asi) - are you; राज्ञः (rājñaḥ) - of a king; विषयात् (viṣayāt) - from the territory; इह (iha) - here; आगतः (āgataḥ) - come; गोत्रं (gotraṃ) - clan; च (ca) - and; नाम (nāma) - name; अपि (api) - also; च (ca) - and; शंस (śaṃsa) - tell; तत्त्वतः (tattvataḥ) - truly; किं (kiṃ) - what; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; शिल्पं (śilpaṃ) - art; craft; skill; तव (tava) - your; विद्यते (vidyate) - exists; कृतम् (kṛtam) - done; accomplished;]
(With desire, O dear, I greet you; whose king's territory have you come here from? Clan and also name, truly tell; what art also is accomplished by you?)
Out of curiosity, dear, I greet you. From which king's domain have you come here? Tell me truthfully your clan and name, and also whether you possess any special skill or craft. (04-6-9)

युधिष्ठिरस्यासमहं पुरा सखा; वैयाघ्रपद्यः पुनरस्मि ब्राह्मणः। अक्षान्प्रवप्तुं कुशलोऽस्मि देविता; कङ्केति नाम्नास्मि विराट विश्रुतः ॥०४-६-१०॥
yudhiṣṭhirasya asam aham purā sakhā; vaiyāghrapadyaḥ punar asmi brāhmaṇaḥ. akṣān pravaptuṃ kuśalaḥ asmi devitā; kaṅka iti nāmnā asmi virāṭa viśrutaḥ ॥04-6-10॥

(Of Yudhiṣṭhira I was formerly friend; [named] Vaiyāghrapadyaḥ again I am Brāhmaṇa; dice to cast skilled I am by profession; Kaṅka thus by name I am Virāṭa well-known.)
I was once the friend of Yudhiṣṭhira, known as Vaiyāghrapadya. Now I am a Brāhmaṇa by profession, skilled in casting dice; as Kaṅka, I am well-known in Virāṭa. (04-6-10)

ददामि ते हन्त वरं यमिच्छसि; प्रशाधि मत्स्यान्वशगो ह्यहं तव। प्रिया हि धूर्ता मम देविनः सदा; भवांश्च देवोपम राज्यमर्हति ॥०४-६-११॥
dadāmi te hanta varaṃ yam icchasi; praśādhi matsyān vaśago hy ahaṃ tava. priyā hi dhūrtā mama devinaḥ sadā; bhavāṃś ca devopama rājyam arhati॥04-6-11॥
[ददामि (dadāmi) - I give; ते (te) - to you; हन्त (hanta) - indeed; वरं (varaṃ) - boon; यम् (yam) - which; इच्छसि (icchasi) - you wish; प्रशाधि (praśādhi) - rule over; मत्स्यान् (matsyān) - the Matsyas; वशगः (vaśagaḥ) - under (your) control; हि (hi) - indeed; अहं (ahaṃ) - I; तव (tava) - to you; प्रिया (priyā) - beloved; हि (hi) - indeed; धूर्ता (dhūrtā) - cunning women; मम (mama) - my; देविनः (devinaḥ) - wives; सदा (sadā) - always; भवान् (bhavān) - you; च (ca) - and; देवोपम (devopama) - godlike; राज्यम् (rājyam) - kingdom; अर्हति (arhati) - deserves;]
(I give to you indeed the boon which you wish; rule over the Matsyas, I indeed am under your control. Beloved are cunning women, my wives always; and you, godlike, deserve the kingdom. (04-6-11))
I grant you whatever boon you desire; rule the Matsyas, for I am truly under your control. Cunning women are always dear to my wives; and you, who are like a god, are worthy of the kingdom. (04-6-11)

आप्तो विवादः परमो विशां पते; न विद्यते किञ्चन मत्स्य हीनतः। न मे जितः कश्चन धारयेद्धनं; वरो ममैषोऽस्तु तव प्रसादतः ॥०४-६-१२॥
āpto vivādaḥ paramo viśāṃ pate; na vidyate kiñcana matsya hīnataḥ. na me jitaḥ kaścana dhārayed dhanaṃ; varo mama eṣaḥ astu tava prasādataḥ ॥04-6-12॥
[आप्तः (आप्तः) (āptaḥ) - obtained; reached; achieved; विवादः (विवादः) (vivādaḥ) - dispute; quarrel; argument; परमः (परमः) (paramaḥ) - supreme; highest; विशां (विशाम्) (viśām) - of men; of the people; of kings; पते (पते) (pate) - O lord; O ruler; न (न) (na) - not; विद्यते (विद्यते) (vidyate) - is found; exists; किञ्चन (किञ्चन) (kiñcana) - anything; मत्स्य (मत्स्य) (matsya) - fish; हीनतः (हीनतः) (hīnataḥ) - deprived; without; न (न) (na) - not; मे (मे) (me) - my; to me; जितः (जितः) (jitaḥ) - won; conquered; कश्चन (कश्चन) (kaścana) - anyone; धारयेत् (धारयेत्) (dhārayet) - should hold; bear; possess; धनम् (धनम्) (dhanam) - wealth; money; वरः (वरः) (varaḥ) - boon; favor; मम (मम) (mama) - my; एषः (एषः) (eṣaḥ) - this; अस्तु (अस्तु) (astu) - let it be; तव (तव) (tava) - your; प्रसादतः (प्रसादतः) (prasādataḥ) - by grace; by favor;]
(Obtained is the supreme dispute, O lord of men; nothing exists without fish. Not anyone conquered by me should possess wealth; this boon is mine by your grace.)
O lord of men, the highest dispute has been resolved; there exists nothing without fish. Let none conquered by me possess wealth; this is the boon I desire by your favour. (4-6-12)

हन्यामवध्यं यदि तेऽप्रियं चरे; त्प्रव्राजयेयं विषयाद्द्विजांस्तथा। शृण्वन्तु मे जानपदाः समागताः; कङ्को यथाहं विषये प्रभुस्तथा ॥०४-६-१३॥
hanyām avadhyaṃ yadi te 'priyaṃ care; t pravrājayeyam viṣayād dvijāṃs tathā। śṛṇvantu me jānapadāḥ samāgatāḥ; kaṅko yathāhaṃ viṣaye prabhus tathā ॥04-6-13॥
[हन्याम् (hanyām) - I might kill; अवध्यम् (avadhyam) - one not to be killed; यदि (yadi) - if; ते (te) - to you; अप्रियं (apriyaṃ) - what is disagreeable; चरे (care) - I might do; प्रव्राजयेयम् (pravrājayeyam) - I might banish; विषयात् (viṣayāt) - from the territory; द्विजान् (dvijān) - twice-born (brāhmaṇas etc.); तथा (tathā) - thus; शृण्वन्तु (śṛṇvantu) - let them hear; मे (me) - of me; जानपदाः (jānapadāḥ) - people of the country; समागताः (samāgatāḥ) - assembled; कङ्कः (kaṅkaḥ) - Kaṅka (proper name); यथा (yathā) - as; अहं (ahaṃ) - I; विषये (viṣaye) - in the territory; प्रभुः (prabhuḥ) - lord; तथा (tathā) - thus;]
(I might kill one not to be killed, if I do what is disagreeable to you; I might banish the twice-born from the territory thus. Let the people of the country assembled hear me; as Kaṅka, just as I am lord in the territory, thus.)
If I do what is disagreeable to you, I might kill even one who should not be killed, or banish the twice-born from the kingdom. Let all the people of the country who have assembled hear—just as Kaṅka, I am the lord here in this land. (04-6-13)
समानयानो भवितासि मे सखा; प्रभूतवस्त्रो बहुपानभोजनः। पश्येस्त्वमन्तश्च बहिश्च सर्वदा; कृतं च ते द्वारमपावृतं मया ॥०४-६-१४॥
samānayāno bhavitāsi me sakhā; prabhūtavastro bahupānabhojanaḥ. paśyestvam antaś ca bahiś ca sarvadā; kṛtaṃ ca te dvāram apāvṛtaṃ mayā ॥04-6-14॥
[समानयानः (samānayānaḥ) - of equal vehicle; (one who has the same means of conveyance;) भवितासि (bhavitāsi) - you will be; मे (me) - to me; सखा (sakhā) - friend; प्रभूतवस्त्रः (prabhūtavashtraḥ) - abundant in garments; बहुपानभोजनः (bahupānabhojanaḥ) - much-drinking-and-eating; (one who enjoys many drinks and meals;) पश्येत् (paśyet) - may see; त्वम् (tvam) - you; अन्तः (antaḥ) - inside; च (ca) - and; बहिः (bahiḥ) - outside; च (ca) - and; सर्वदा (sarvadā) - always; कृतम् (kṛtam) - done; च (ca) - and; ते (te) - your; द्वारम् (dvāram) - door; अपावृतम् (apāvṛtam) - opened; (unclosed;) मया (mayā) - by me;]
(You will be my friend of equal means of conveyance, abundant in clothes, much in drinking and eating. You may see, always, inside and outside; and your door has been opened by me.)
You will be my friend, sharing the same vehicle, with plenty of clothing and ample food and drink. You may always see both inside and outside; and your door has been left open by me. (04-6-14)
ये त्वानुवादेयुरवृत्तिकर्शिता; ब्रूयाश्च तेषां वचनेन मे सदा। दास्यामि सर्वं तदहं न संशयो; न ते भयं विद्यति संनिधौ मम ॥०४-६-१५॥
ye tvānuvādeyur avṛtti-karśitāḥ; brūyāś ca teṣāṃ vacanena me sadā. dāsyāmi sarvaṃ tad ahaṃ na saṃśayo; na te bhayaṃ vidyati saṃnidhau mama ॥04-6-15॥
[ये (ye) - who; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; अनुवादेयुः (anuvādeyuḥ) - would repeat (your words); अवृत्तिकर्शिताः (avṛtti-karśitāḥ) - afflicted by lack of subsistence; ब्रूयाः (brūyāḥ) - you should say; च (ca) - and; तेषाम् (teṣām) - to them; वचनेन (vacanena) - by word; मे (me) - my; सदा (sadā) - always; दास्यामि (dāsyāmi) - I shall give; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; तत् (tat) - that; अहम् (aham) - I; न (na) - not; संशयः (saṃśayaḥ) - doubt; न (na) - not; ते (te) - to you; भयम् (bhayam) - fear; विद्यति (vidyati) - exists; संनिधौ (saṃnidhau) - in (my) presence; मम (mama) - my;]
(Who would repeat you, afflicted by want of livelihood; you should say to them always by my word. I shall give all that, I—no doubt; no fear exists to you in my presence (04-6-15))
Whoever would repeat your words, being afflicted by lack of livelihood, you should always address them by my authority. I shall surely give them everything—there is no doubt. In my presence, you need not fear anything. (04-6-15)

evaṁ sa labdhvā tu varaṁ samāgamaṁ; virāṭarājena nararṣabhas tadā। uvāsa vīraḥ paramārcitaḥ sukhī; na cāpi kaścid caritaṁ bubodha tat ॥04-6-16॥
[एवं (evaṁ) - thus; स (sa) - he; लब्ध्वा (labdhvā) - having obtained; तु (tu) - but; वरं (varaṁ) - boon; समागमं (samāgamaṁ) - audience; meeting; विराटराजेन (virāṭarājena) - by King Virāṭa; नरर्षभः (nararṣabhaḥ) - bull among men; तदा (tadā) - at that time; उवास (uvāsa) - dwelt; stayed; वीरः (vīraḥ) - hero; परमार्चितः (paramārcitaḥ) - highly honored; सुखी (sukhī) - happy; with pleasure; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; कश्चित् (kaścit) - anyone; चरितं (caritaṁ) - deed; conduct; बुबोध (bubodha) - knew; perceived; तत् (tat) - that;]
(Thus he, having obtained the boon of an audience, by King Virāṭa, the bull among men at that time, stayed, the hero, highly honored, happy; and not even anyone knew that conduct.)
Thus, having gained a privileged audience from King Virāṭa, that heroic bull among men dwelled there most highly honored and happy; and no one came to know that conduct. (04-6-16)
