tataḥ keśānsamutkṣipya vellitāgrānaninditān। jugūha dakṣiṇe pārśve mṛdūnasitalocanā ॥04-8-1॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; केशान् (keśān) - the hair; समुत्क्षिप्य (samutkṣipya) - having lifted up together; वेल्लिताग्रान् (vellitāgrān) - with curled tips; अनिन्दितान् (aninditān) - blameless; जुगूह (jugūha) - she concealed; दक्षिणे (dakṣiṇe) - on the right; पार्श्वे (pārśve) - side; मृदून (mṛdūn) - soft; सितलोचना (sitalocanā) - the fair-eyed (woman);]
(Then, having lifted the blameless hair with curled tips, the fair-eyed (woman) concealed the soft (hair) on the right side.)
Then, the fair-eyed woman took her blameless, curled-tipped hair, lifted it up, and concealed the soft locks on her right side. (04-8-1)
वासश्च परिधायैकं कृष्णं सुमलिनं महत्। कृत्वा वेषं च सैरन्ध्र्याः कृष्णा व्यचरदार्तवत् ॥०४-८-२॥

(And having put on one dark, very dusty, great garment, and having assumed the appearance of Sairandhri, Kṛṣṇā moved about afflicted.)

तां नराः परिधावन्तीं स्त्रियश्च समुपाद्रवन्। अपृच्छंश्चैव तां दृष्ट्वा का त्वं किं च चिकीर्षसि ॥०४-८-३॥

(Her men running around, women and approached closely, asked indeed her, having seen, who (are) you, what and do you intend (to do).)
Men running around and women also approached her closely, and having seen her, they indeed asked: "Who are you? What do you intend to do?" (04-8-3)
सा तानुवाच राजेन्द्र सैरन्ध्र्यहमुपागता। कर्म चेच्छामि वै कर्तुं तस्य यो मां पुपुक्षति ॥०४-८-४॥

तस्या रूपेण वेषेण श्लक्ष्णया च तथा गिरा। नाश्रद्दधत तां दासीमन्नहेतोरुपस्थिताम् ॥०४-८-५॥
tasyā rūpeṇa veṣeṇa ślakṣṇayā ca tathā girā। nāśraddadhata tāṃ dāsīmamnahetorupasthitām॥04-8-5॥

विराटस्य तु कैकेयी भार्या परमसंमता। अवलोकयन्ती ददृशे प्रासादाद्द्रुपदात्मजाम् ॥०४-८-६॥
virāṭasya tu kaikeyī bhāryā parama-saṁmatā। avalokayantī dadṛśe prāsādād drupadātmajām ॥04-8-6॥

सा समीक्ष्य तथारूपामनाथामेकवाससम्। समाहूयाब्रवीद्भद्रे का त्वं किं च चिकीर्षसि ॥०४-८-७॥
sā samīkṣya tathārūpām anāthām ekavāsasam। samāhūyābravīd bhadre kā tvaṁ kiṁ ca cikīrṣasi ॥04-8-7॥

(She, having observed (her) of such a form, helpless, wearing a single garment, having called (her), spoke: 'O auspicious one, who are you and what do you wish to do?')
She, seeing her in such a state—helpless and wearing a single garment—called her and said: 'O auspicious one, who are you, and what do you wish to do?' (04-8-7)
सा तामुवाच राजेन्द्र सैरन्ध्र्यहमुपागता। कर्म चेच्छाम्यहं कर्तुं तस्य यो मां पुपुक्षति ॥०४-८-८॥

naivaṁ-rūpā bhavanty-evaṁ yathā vadasi bhāmini। preṣayanti ca vai dāsīr dāsāṁś-caivaṁ-vidhān bahūn ॥04-8-9॥
[नैवंरूपा (naivaṁ-rūpā) - not of this form; not so in form; भवन्ति (bhavanti) - are; become; एवं (evaṁ) - thus; in this way; यथा (yathā) - as; just as; वदसि (vadasi) - you say; भामिनि (bhāmini) - O beautiful lady; प्रेषयन्ति (preṣayanti) - they send forth; they dispatch; च (ca) - and; वै (vai) - indeed; दासीः (dāsīḥ) - female servants; दासान् (dāsān) - male servants; च (ca) - and; एवंविधान् (evaṁ-vidhān) - such as these; of this sort; बहून् (bahūn) - many;]
(Not of this form are thus as you say, O beautiful lady. They indeed send forth female servants and male servants of this sort, many.)
They are not of such a form as you say, O beautiful lady. Indeed, they send forth many female and male servants of this kind. (04-8-9)
गूढगुल्फा संहतोरुस्त्रिगम्भीरा षडुन्नता। रक्ता पञ्चसु रक्तेषु हंसगद्गदभाषिणी ॥०४-८-१०॥
gūḍhagulpḥā saṃhatorustrigambhīrā ṣaḍunnatā। raktā pañcasu rakteṣu haṃsagadgadabhāṣiṇī ॥04-8-10॥
[गूढगुल्फा (gūḍhagulpḥā) - with hidden ankles; संहतोरु (saṃhatoru) - with joined thighs; स्त्रिगम्भीरा (strigambhīrā) - with three deep (lines/marks); षडुन्नता (ṣaḍunnatā) - having six elevations; रक्ता (raktā) - reddish; पञ्चसु (pañcasu) - in five; रक्तेषु (rakteṣu) - among red (parts); हंसगद्गदभाषिणी (haṃsagadgadabhāṣiṇī) - speaking in a broken voice like a swan;]

सुकेशी सुस्तनी श्यामा पीनश्रोणिपयोधरा। तेन तेनैव सम्पन्ना काश्मीरीव तुरङ्गमा ॥०४-८-११॥
sukeśī sustanī śyāmā pīnaśroṇipayodharā। tena tenaiva sampannā kāśmīrīva turaṅgamā ॥04-8-11॥
[सुकेशी (sukeśī) - having beautiful hair; सुस्तनी (sustanī) - having beautiful breasts; श्यामा (śyāmā) - dark-complexioned; पीनश्रोणिपयोधरा (pīnaśroṇipayodharā) - having large hips and breasts; तेन (tena) - by that (feature); तेनैव (tenaiva) - by that very (quality); सम्पन्ना (sampannā) - possessed; endowed; काश्मीरीव (kāśmīrīva) - like a Kasmiri mare; तुरङ्गमा (turaṅgamā) - mare; ॥०४-८-११॥ (॥04-8-11॥) -;]
(Having beautiful hair, having beautiful breasts, dark-complexioned, having large hips and breasts, possessed by that, by that very (quality), like a Kasmiri mare.)

स्वरालपक्ष्मनयना बिम्बोष्ठी तनुमध्यमा। कम्बुग्रीवा गूढसिरा पूर्णचन्द्रनिभानना ॥०४-८-१२॥
svarālapakṣmanayanā bimboṣṭhī tanumadhyamā। kambugrīvā gūḍhasirā pūrṇacandranibhānanā ॥04-8-12॥

का त्वं ब्रूहि यथा भद्रे नासि दासी कथञ्चन। यक्षी वा यदि वा देवी गन्धर्वी यदि वाप्सराः ॥०४-८-१३॥
kā tvaṃ brūhi yathā bhadre nāsi dāsī kathaṃcana. yakṣī vā yadi vā devī gandharvī yadi vāpsarāḥ ॥04-8-13॥

अलम्बुसा मिश्रकेशी पुण्डरीकाथ मालिनी। इन्द्राणी वारुणी वा त्वं त्वष्टुर्धातुः प्रजापतेः ॥ देव्यो देवेषु विख्यातास्तासां त्वं कतमा शुभे ॥०४-८-१४॥
alambusā miśrakeśī puṇḍarīkātha mālinī। indrāṇī vāruṇī vā tvaṃ tvaṣṭurdhātuḥ prajāpateḥ ॥ devyo deveṣu vikhyātāstāsaṃ tvaṃ katamā śubhe ॥04-8-14॥

केशाञ्जानाम्यहं कर्तुं पिंषे साधु विलेपनम्। ग्रथयिष्ये विचित्राश्च स्रजः परमशोभनाः ॥०४-८-१६॥
keśāñjānāmyahaṃ kartuṃ piṃṣe sādhu vilepanam। grathayiṣye vicitrāśca srajaḥ paramaśobhanāḥ॥04-8-16॥
[केशान् (keśān) - hairs (accusative plural); जानामि (jānāmi) - I know; अहम् (aham) - I; कर्तुम् (kartum) - to do; पिंषे (piṃṣe) - I grind; साधु (sādhu) - well; विलेपनम् (vilepanam) - unguent; ग्रथयिष्ये (grathayiṣye) - I shall string; विचित्राः (vicitrāḥ) - varied; च (ca) - and; स्रजः (srajaḥ) - garlands (accusative plural); परमशोभनाः (paramaśobhanāḥ) - most beautiful;]

आराधयं सत्यभामां कृष्णस्य महिषीं प्रियाम्। कृष्णां च भार्यां पाण्डूनां कुरूणामेकसुन्दरीम् ॥०४-८-१७॥
ārādhayaṃ satyabhāmāṃ kṛṣṇasya mahiṣīṃ priyām। kṛṣṇāṃ ca bhāryāṃ pāṇḍūnāṃ kurūṇām ekasundarīm॥04-8-17॥

तत्र तत्र चराम्येवं लभमाना सुशोभनम्। वासांसि यावच्च लभे तावत्तावद्रमे तथा ॥०४-८-१८॥
tatra tatra carāmyevaṃ labhamānā suśobhanam। vāsāṃsi yāvatca labhe tāvattāvadrame tathā ॥04-8-18॥
[तत्र तत्र (tatra tatra) - here and there; चरामि (carāmi) - I move; एवं (evaṃ) - thus; लभमाना (labhamānā) - obtaining; सुशोभनम् (suśobhanam) - excellent; वासांसि (vāsāṃsi) - garments; यावत् च (yāvat ca) - so long as; लभे (labhe) - I obtain; तावत् तावत् (tāvat tāvat) - that much, so much; रमे (rame) - I delight; तथा (tathā) - in that way;]
(Here and there I move thus, obtaining excellent garments; as long as I obtain, so much I delight in that way.)
I wander here and there in this way, acquiring beautiful garments; as long as I can obtain them, to that extent I take pleasure in them in this way. (4-8-18)
मालिनीत्येव मे नाम स्वयं देवी चकार सा। साहमभ्यागता देवि सुदेष्णे त्वन्निवेशनम् ॥०४-८-१९॥
mālinītyeva me nāma svayaṁ devī cakāra sā। sāhamabhyāgatā devi sudeṣṇe tvanniveśanam ॥04-8-19॥

"Mālinī" is the name she herself has given me; I have come, O lady, O Sudeṣṇā, to your house. (04-8-19)

मूर्ध्नि त्वां वासयेयं वै संशयो मे न विद्यते। नो चेदिह तु राजा त्वां गच्छेत्सर्वेण चेतसा ॥०४-८-२०॥
mūrdhni tvāṃ vāsayeyam vai saṃśayo me na vidyate. no ced iha tu rājā tvāṃ gacchet sarveṇa cetasā ॥04-8-20॥
[मूर्ध्नि (mūrdhni) - upon (my) head; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; वासयेयम् (vāsayeyam) - would cause (to) dwell; वै (vai) - indeed; संशयः (saṃśayaḥ) - doubt; मे (me) - to me; न (na) - not; विद्यते (vidyate) - exists; नु (nu) - certainly; चेत् (cet) - if; इह (iha) - here; तु (tu) - but; राजा (rājā) - the king; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; गच्छेत् (gacchet) - should go; सर्वेण (sarveṇa) - with all; चेतसा (cetasā) - with (his) mind;]
(Upon (my) head you I would cause to dwell, indeed, doubt to me not exists. If here but the king you should go with all (his) mind.)
I would indeed place you upon my head; I have no doubt about it. But if the king, here, should go with all his heart, (then it is so). (04-8-20)
स्त्रियो राजकुले पश्य याश्चेमा मम वेश्मनि। प्रसक्तास्त्वां निरीक्षन्ते पुमांसं कं न मोहयेः ॥०४-८-२१॥
striyo rājakule paśya yāś cemā mama veśmani। prasaktās tvāṃ nirīkṣante pumāṃsaṃ kaṃ na mohayeh ॥04-8-21॥
[स्त्रियः (striyaḥ) - women; राजकुले (rājakule) - in the royal family; पश्य (paśya) - see; याः (yāḥ) - who; च (ca) - and; इमा (imā) - these; मम (mama) - my; वेश्मनि (veśmani) - in the house; प्रसक्ताः (prasaktāḥ) - attached; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; निरीक्षन्ते (nirīkṣante) - gaze at; पुमांसम् (pumāṃsam) - man; कम् (kam) - whom; न (na) - not; मोहयेः (mohayeh) - would you not delude;]
(Women in the royal family see, and these women in my house attached gaze at you; man whom would you not delude?)
See the women of the royal family, and these here in my house, who are attached, gaze at you; what man would you not cause to be deluded? (04-8-21)
वृक्षांश्चावस्थितान्पश्य य इमे मम वेश्मनि। तेऽपि त्वां संनमन्तीव पुमांसं कं न मोहयेः ॥०४-८-२२॥
vṛkṣāṁś cāvasthitān paśya ya ime mama veśmani। te'pi tvāṁ saṁnamantīva pumāṁsaṁ kaṁ na mohayeḥ ॥04-8-22॥
[वृक्षान् (vṛkṣān) - trees; च (ca) - and; आवस्थितान् (avasthitān) - standing, present; पश्य (paśya) - see; य (ya) - who; इमे (ime) - these; मम (mama) - my; वेश्मनि (veśmani) - in the house; ते (te) - they; अपि (api) - also; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; संनमन्ति (saṁnamanti) - bow down; इव (iva) - as if; पुमांसम् (pumāṁsam) - a man; कं (kaṁ) - whom; न (na) - not; मोहयेः (mohayeḥ) - would you not delude;]
(And see the trees standing, who these in my house; they also, to you, bow down as if, a man, whom would you not delude?)
See also the trees standing here in my house; even they seem to bow down to you. What man would you not delude? (04-8-22)
राजा विराटः सुश्रोणि दृष्ट्वा वपुरमानुषम्। विहाय मां वरारोहे त्वां गच्छेत्सर्वचेतसा ॥०४-८-२३॥
rājā virāṭaḥ suśroṇi dṛṣṭvā vapuramānuṣam। vihāya māṃ varārohe tvāṃ gacchet sarvacetasā ॥04-8-23॥
[राजा (rājā) - king; विराटः (virāṭaḥ) - Virāṭa; सुश्रोणि (suśroṇi) - O beautiful-thighed one; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; वपुर्मानुषम् (vapurmānuṣam) - human form; विहाय (vihāya) - abandoning; माम् (mām) - me; वरारोहे (varārohe) - O best among women; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; गच्छेत् (gacchet) - may go; सर्वचेतसा (sarvacetasā) - with all his mind;]
(King Virāṭa, O beautiful-thighed one, having seen human form, abandoning me, O best among women, may go to you with all his mind.)
King Virāṭa, O beautiful-thighed one, upon seeing your human form, may abandon me and turn to you with all his heart, O best among women. (04-8-23)
यं हि त्वमनवद्याङ्गि नरमायतलोचने। प्रसक्तमभिवीक्षेथाः स कामवशगो भवेत् ॥०४-८-२४॥
yaṃ hi tvam anavadya-aṅgi nara māyata-locane। prasaktam abhivīkṣethāḥ sa kāma-vaśago bhavet॥04-8-24॥
[यं (yaṃ) - whom; हि (hi) - indeed; त्वम् (tvam) - you; अनवद्याङ्गि (anavadya-aṅgi) - faultless-limbed one; नरम् (naram) - man; आयतलोचने (āyata-locane) - wide-eyed lady; प्रसक्तम् (prasaktam) - attached; अभिवीक्षेथाः (abhivīkṣethāḥ) - you look upon; स (sa) - he; कामवशगः (kāma-vaśagaḥ) - subject to desire; भवेत् (bhavet) - becomes;]
(Whom indeed you, faultless-limbed one, wide-eyed lady, man attached (to you), look upon, he becomes subject to desire.)
O wide-eyed and faultless-limbed one, any man whom you look upon with attachment indeed becomes subject to desire. (04-8-24)
यश्च त्वां सततं पश्येत्पुरुषश्चारुहासिनि। एवं सर्वानवद्याङ्गि स चानङ्गवशो भवेत् ॥०४-८-२५॥
yaś ca tvāṁ satataṁ paśyet puruṣaś cāruhāsini. evaṁ sarvān avadyāṅgi sa cānaṅgavaśo bhavet ॥04-8-25॥
[यः (yaḥ) - who; च (ca) - and; त्वां (tvām) - you; सततम् (satatam) - always; पश्येत् (paśyet) - might see; पुरुषः (puruṣaḥ) - man; च (ca) - and; आरुहासिनि (āruhāsini) - O one with a charming smile; एवम् (evam) - in this manner; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; अवद्याङ्गि (avadyāṅgi) - O one with faultless limbs; सः (saḥ) - he; च (ca) - and; अनङ्गवशः (anaṅgavaśaḥ) - under the control of Kāma (the god of love); भवेत् (bhavet) - would become;]
(Who and you always might see man and O one with a charming smile, in this manner all O one with faultless limbs, he and under the control of Kāma would become.)
And the man who always looks at you, O one with a charming smile, in this way, O one with faultless limbs, he too becomes subject to the sway of Kāma (the god of love). (04-8-25)
यथा कर्कटकी गर्भमाधत्ते मृत्युमात्मनः। तथाविधमहं मन्ये वासं तव शुचिस्मिते ॥०४-८-२६॥
yathā karkaṭakī garbham-ādhattē mṛtyum-ātmanaḥ। tathā-vidham-ahaṁ manyē vāsaṁ tava śuci-smite ॥04-8-26॥
[यथा (yathā) - just as; कर्कटकी (karkaṭakī) - the female crab; गर्भम् (garbham) - offspring; embryo; आधत्ते (ādhattē) - conceives; holds; मृत्युम् (mṛtyum) - death; आत्मनः (ātmanaḥ) - of herself; of her own (body); तथा (tathā) - so; in that way; विधम् (vidham) - sort; kind (of); अहं (ahaṁ) - I; मन्ये (manyē) - consider; think; वासम् (vāsaṁ) - dwelling; residing (with); तव (tava) - your; शुचिस्मिते (śuci-smite) - O pure-smiling one; O one with pure smile;]
(Just as the female crab conceives offspring, her own death, so of such kind I consider the dwelling with you, O pure-smiling one.)
Just as the female crab bears within herself the cause of her own death, so too I consider living with you, O pure-smiling one. (04-8-26)

नास्मि लभ्या विराटेन न चान्येन कथञ्चन। गन्धर्वाः पतयो मह्यं युवानः पञ्च भामिनि ॥०४-८-२७॥
nāsmi labhyā virāṭena na cānyena kathañcana। gandharvāḥ patayo mahyaṃ yuvānaḥ pañca bhāmini ॥04-8-27॥
[नास्मि (nā asmi) - not I am; लभ्या (labhyā) - to be obtained; विराटेन (virāṭena) - by Virāṭa; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; अन्येन (anyena) - by another; कथञ्चन (kathañcana) - in any way; गन्धर्वाः (gandharvāḥ) - Gandharvas; पतयः (patayaḥ) - husbands; महम्यं (mahyaṃ) - for me; युवानः (yuvānaḥ) - young men; पञ्च (pañca) - five; भामिनि (bhāmini) - O shining one;]
(Not am I to be obtained by Virāṭa nor by another in any way. The Gandharvas (are) husbands for me, five young men, O shining one.)
I cannot be obtained by Virāṭa nor by anyone else in any way. The Gandharvas, five young men, are my husbands, O beautiful one. (04-8-27)
पुत्रा गन्धर्वराजस्य महासत्त्वस्य कस्यचित्। रक्षन्ति ते च मां नित्यं दुःखाचारा तथा न्वहम् ॥०४-८-२८॥
putrā gandharvarājasya mahāsattvasya kasyacit। rakṣanti te ca māṃ nityaṃ duḥkhācārā tathā nv aham ॥04-8-28॥
[पुत्राः (putrāḥ) - sons; गन्धर्वराजस्य (gandharvarājasya) - of the king of the Gandharvas; महासत्त्वस्य (mahāsattvasya) - of a great-souled (one); कस्यचित् (kasyacit) - of someone; रक्षन्ति (rakṣanti) - they protect; ते (te) - they; च (ca) - and; माम् (mām) - me; नित्यम् (nityam) - always; दुःखाचाराः (duḥkhācārāḥ) - practised in sorrow; तथा (tathā) - thus; नु (nu) - indeed; अहम् (aham) - I;]
(Sons of the king of the Gandharvas, of a great-souled someone, they protect me always, practised in sorrow, thus indeed I.)
The sons of a certain great-souled king of the Gandharvas always protect me and are accustomed to sorrow; thus indeed am I. (04-8-28)
यो मे न दद्यादुच्छिष्टं न च पादौ प्रधावयेत्। प्रीयेयुस्तेन वासेन गन्धर्वाः पतयो मम ॥०४-८-२९॥
yo me na dadyād ucchiṣṭaṁ na ca pādau pradhāvayet। prīyeyus tena vāsaena gandharvāḥ patayo mama॥04-8-29॥
[यो (yaḥ) - who; मे (me) - to me; न (na) - not; दद्यत् (dadyāt) - should give; उच्छिष्टं (ucchiṣṭam) - leavings (of food); न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; पादौ (pādau) - feet; प्रधावयेत् (pradhāvayet) - should cause to run (move quickly); प्रीयेयुः (prīyeyuḥ) - would be pleased; तेन (tena) - by that; वासेन (vāsaena (correct IAST: vāsena)) - by the garment (clothing); गन्धर्वाः (gandharvāḥ) - the Gandharvas; पतयः (patayaḥ) - lords; मम (mama) - my;]
(Who to me should not give leavings, and not cause the feet to run, would be pleased by that garment the Gandharvas, my lords.)
Whoever does not give me food leavings and does not make my feet hurry, the Gandharvas, my lords, would be pleased by that garment. (04-8-29)
यो हि मां पुरुषो गृध्येद्यथान्याः प्राकृतस्त्रियः। तामेव स ततो रात्रिं प्रविशेदपरां तनुम् ॥०४-८-३०॥
yo hi māṃ puruṣo gṛdhyed yathā anyāḥ prākṛtaḥ striyaḥ। tām eva sa tato rātriṃ praviśet aparāṃ tanum ॥04-8-30॥
[यो (yaḥ) - who; हि (hi) - indeed; मां (mām) - me; पुरुषः (puruṣaḥ) - man; गृध्येत् (gṛdhyet) - might desire; यथा (yathā) - just as; अन्याः (anyāḥ) - other; प्राकृतः (prākṛtaḥ) - ordinary; स्त्रियः (striyaḥ) - women; ताम् (tām) - her; एव (eva) - only; स (sa) - he; ततः (tataḥ) - from that; रात्रिं (rātriṃ) - night; प्रविशेत् (praviśet) - should enter; परां (parāṃ) - another; तनुम् (tanum) - body;]
(Who indeed me man might desire, just as other ordinary women, her only he from that night should enter another body.)
If a man should desire me as ordinary men do other women, then, from that night, he would enter another body. (04-8-30)
न चाप्यहं चालयितुं शक्या केनचिदङ्गने। दुःखशीला हि गन्धर्वास्ते च मे बलवत्तराः ॥०४-८-३१॥
na cāpyahaṃ cālayituṃ śakyā kenacid aṅgane. duḥkhaśīlā hi gandharvāste ca me balavattarāḥ ॥04-8-31॥
[न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; अहम् (aham) - I; चालयितुम् (cālayitum) - to move; शक्या (śakyā) - able; केनचित् (kenacit) - by anyone; अङ्गने (aṅgane) - O lady; दुःखशीला (duḥkhaśīlā) - having a nature of suffering; हि (hi) - indeed; गन्धर्वाः (gandharvāḥ) - Gandharvas; ते (te) - they; च (ca) - and; मे (me) - to me; बलवत्तराः (balavattarāḥ) - stronger;]
(Not and also I to move able by anyone, O lady. Having a nature of suffering indeed Gandharvas they and to me stronger.)
O lady, I too am not able to be moved by anyone. The Gandharvas indeed are of a suffering nature, and they are stronger than me. (4-8-31)

एवं त्वां वासयिष्यामि यथा त्वं नन्दिनीच्छसि। न च पादौ न चोच्छिष्टं स्प्रक्ष्यसि त्वं कथञ्चन ॥०४-८-३२॥
evaṃ tvāṃ vāsayiṣyāmi yathā tvaṃ nandin īcchasi. na ca pādau na cocchiṣṭaṃ spraakṣyasi tvaṃ kathaṃcana ॥04-8-32॥
[एवं (evaṃ) - thus; त्वाम् (tvām) - you (accusative singular); वासयिष्यामि (vāsayiṣyāmi) - I will cause to dwell; यथा (yathā) - as; त्वम् (tvam) - you; नन्दिनी (nandini) - Nandini; इच्छसि (icchasi) - desire; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; पादौ (pādau) - feet (accusative dual); न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; उच्छिष्टम् (ucchiṣṭam) - leavings (of food); स्प्रक्ष्यसि (sprakṣyasi) - you will touch; त्वम् (tvam) - you; कथञ्चन (kathaṃcana) - in any way;]
(Thus you I will cause to dwell, as you Nandini desire. Not and feet, not and leavings you will touch, you in any way.)
Thus I will make you stay as you, Nandini, wish. And you shall not touch feet nor leavings of food in any way. (04-8-32)

एवं कृष्णा विराटस्य भार्यया परिसान्त्विता। न चैनां वेद तत्रान्यस्तत्त्वेन जनमेजय ॥०४-८-३३॥
evaṃ kṛṣṇā virāṭasya bhāryayā parisāntvitā। na ca enāṃ veda tatra anyas tattvena janamejaya ॥04-8-33॥
[एवं (evaṃ) - thus; कृष्णा (kṛṣṇā) - Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī); विराटस्य (virāṭasya) - of Virāṭa; भार्यया (bhāryayā) - by the wife; परिसान्त्विता (parisāntvitā) - was soothed; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; एनाम् (enām) - her; वेद (veda) - knows; तत्र (tatra) - there; अन्यः (anyaḥ) - anyone else; तत्त्वेन (tattvena) - in reality; जनमेजय (janamejaya) - O Janamejaya;]
(Thus Kṛṣṇā, by the wife of Virāṭa, was soothed. Not anyone else knows her there in reality, O Janamejaya.)
Thus Kṛṣṇā was consoled by the wife of Virāṭa. No one else there truly recognized her, O Janamejaya. (04-8-33)
