After being rejected by the princess, Kīcaka, overwhelmed by unrestrained and violent desire, spoke to Sudeṣṇā. (04-14-1)
यथा कैकेयि सैरन्ध्र्या समेयां तद्विधीयताम्। तां सुदेष्णे परीप्सस्व माहं प्राणान्प्रहासिषम् ॥०४-१४-२॥
yathā kaikeyi sairandhryā sameyāṁ tadvidhīyatām। tāṁ sudeṣṇe parīpsasva māhaṁ prāṇān prahāsiṣam ॥04-14-2॥

तस्य तां बहुशः श्रुत्वा वाचं विलपतस्तदा। विराटमहिषी देवी कृपां चक्रे मनस्विनी ॥०४-१४-३॥
tasya tāṃ bahuśaḥ śrutvā vācaṃ vilapatas tadā। virāṭmahiṣī devī kṛpāṃ cakre manasvinī ॥04-14-3॥

(His that repeatedly having heard speech lamenting then Virāṭ's queen lady compassion did noble-minded.)
When she, the noble-minded queen of Virāṭ, had repeatedly heard his lamenting words, the lady felt compassion. (04-14-3)
स्वमर्थमभिसन्धाय तस्यार्थमनुचिन्त्य च। उद्वेगं चैव कृष्णायाः सुदेष्णा सूतमब्रवीत् ॥०४-१४-४॥
svam-artham-abhisandhāya tasyārtham-anucintya ca। udvegaṃ caiva kṛṣṇāyāḥ sudeṣṇā sūtam-abravīt ॥04-14-4॥

तत्र सम्प्रेषितामेनां विजने निरवग्रहाम्। सान्त्वयेथा यथाकामं सान्त्व्यमाना रमेद्यदि ॥०४-१४-६॥

कीचकस्तु गृहं गत्वा भगिन्या वचनात्तदा। सुरामाहारयामास राजार्हां सुपरिस्रुताम् ॥०४-१४-७॥
kīcakastu gṛhaṃ gatvā bhaginyā vacanāttadā. surāmāhārayāmāsa rājārhāṃ suparisrutām ॥04-14-7॥
[कीचकस्तु (kīcakastu) - But Kīcaka; गृहम् (gṛham) - house; गत्वा (gatvā) - having gone; भगिन्या (bhaginyā) - by (his) sister; वचनात् (vacanāt) - at the word (on the order); तदा (tadā) - then; सुराम् (surām) - liquor; आहारयामास (āhārayāmāsa) - brought; राजार्हाम् (rājārhām) - fit for a king; सुपरिस्रुताम् (suparisrutām) - well-purified;]
(But Kīcaka, having gone to the house, at the word of (his) sister then brought liquor, fit for a king, (and) well-purified.)
But Kīcaka went to the house and, at his sister's request, brought liquor that was fit for a king and excellently purified. (04-14-7)
आजौरभ्रं च सुभृशं बहूंश्चोच्चावचान्मृगान्। कारयामास कुशलैरन्नपानं सुशोभनम् ॥०४-१४-८॥
ājau rabhraṃ ca subhṛśaṃ bahūṃś coccāvacān mṛgān। kārayāmāsa kuśalair annapānaṃ suśobhanam ॥04-14-8॥
[आजौ (ājau) - goats; (he-goats); अभ्रं (abhram) - sheep; (rams); च (ca) - and; सुभृशं (subhṛśam) - abundantly; बहून् (bahūn) - many; च (ca) - and; उच्चावचान् (uccāvacān) - high and low (various); मृगान् (mṛgān) - animals; कारयामास (kārayāmāsa) - caused to be prepared; कुशलैः (kuśalaiḥ) - by the skilled (ones); अन्नपानम् (annapānam) - food and drink; सुशोभनम् (suśobhanam) - excellent;]
(Goats, sheep and also abundantly many various animals; caused to be prepared by the skilled (ones) excellent food and drink.)
He had excellent food and drink prepared by skilled persons from goats, sheep, and many other kinds of animals, both great and small. (04-14-8)
तस्मिन्कृते तदा देवी कीचकेनोपमन्त्रिता। सुदेष्णा प्रेषयामास सैरन्ध्रीं कीचकालयम् ॥०४-१४-९॥
tasmin kṛte tadā devī kīcakena upamantritā। sudeṣṇā preṣayāmāsa sairandhrīṃ kīcakālayam ॥04-14-9॥
[तस्मिन् (tasmin) - in that (act); कृते (kṛte) - having been done; तदा (tadā) - then; देवी (devī) - the queen; कीचकेन (kīcakena) - by Kīcaka; उपमन्त्रिता (upamantritā) - consulted (having been instructed); सुदेष्णा (sudeṣṇā) - Sudeshna; प्रेषयामास (preṣayāmāsa) - sent; सैरन्ध्रीम् (sairandhrīm) - Sairandhri (Draupadi); कीचकालयम् (kīcakālayam) - to Kīcaka's residence;]
(In that act having been done, then the queen, having been consulted by Kīcaka, Sudeshna sent Sairandhri to Kīcaka's residence.)

(Not I should go, I, to his, O princess, residence. You indeed, O queen, know as he shameless.)
O princess, I should not go to his residence. O queen, you alone know how shameless he is. (04-14-11)
न चाहमनवद्याङ्गि तव वेश्मनि भामिनि। कामवृत्ता भविष्यामि पतीनां व्यभिचारिणी ॥०४-१४-१२॥
na cāham anavadyāṅgi tava veśmani bhāmini। kāmavṛttā bhaviṣyāmi patīnāṃ vyabhicāriṇī ॥04-14-12॥
[न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; अहम् (aham) - I; अनवद्याङ्गि (anavadyāṅgi) - O flawless-limbed one; तव (tava) - in your; वेश्मनि (veśmani) - house; भामिनि (bhāmini) - O radiant one; कामवृत्ता (kāmavṛttā) - engaged in passions; भविष्यामि (bhaviṣyāmi) - I shall become; पतीनां (patīnāṃ) - of husbands; व्यभिचारिणी (vyabhicāriṇī) - unfaithful woman;]
(Not and I, O flawless-limbed one, in your house, O radiant one, engaged in passions, I shall become, of husbands, unfaithful woman.)
O flawless-limbed and radiant one, I will not, in your house, become an unfaithful wife to my husband by engaging in passions. (04-14-12)
त्वं चैव देवि जानासि यथा स समयः कृतः। प्रविशन्त्या मया पूर्वं तव वेश्मनि भामिनि ॥०४-१४-१३॥
tvaṃ caiva devi jānāsi yathā sa samayaḥ kṛtaḥ। praviśantyā mayā pūrvaṃ tava veśmani bhāmini॥04-14-13॥

(You indeed, O goddess, know as the agreement was made, by me entering before in your house, O beautiful one.)
You, O goddess, indeed know how that agreement was made when I previously entered your house, O beautiful one. (04-14-13)
कीचकश्च सुकेशान्ते मूढो मदनदर्पितः। सोऽवमंस्यति मां दृष्ट्वा न यास्ये तत्र शोभने ॥०४-१४-१४॥
kīcakaś ca sukeśānte mūḍho madanadarpitaḥ। so'vamaṃsyati māṃ dṛṣṭvā na yāsye tatra śobhane॥04-14-14॥

(Kīcaka and at the end of beautiful-haired, deluded, overcome with the pride of desire; he will look down upon me, having seen (me), I will not go there, O beautiful one.)
Kīcaka, deluded and intoxicated by the pride of passion at Sukeśānta, will despise me when he sees me. Therefore, O beautiful one, I will not go there. (04-14-14)
सन्ति बह्व्यस्तव प्रेष्या राजपुत्रि वशानुगाः। अन्यां प्रेषय भद्रं ते स हि मामवमंस्यते ॥०४-१४-१५॥
santi bahvyas tava preṣyā rājaputri vaśānugāḥ। anyāṃ preṣaya bhadraṃ te sa hi mām avamaṃsyate॥04-14-15॥
[सन्ति (santi) - are (they exist); बह्व्यः (bahvyaḥ) - many (feminine); तव (tava) - your; प्रेष्याः (preṣyāḥ) - female attendants; राजपुत्रि (rājaputri) - O princess; वशानुगाः (vaśānugāḥ) - obedient; अन्यां (anyāṃ) - another (one); प्रेषय (preṣaya) - send; भद्रं (bhadraṃ) - well-being; ते (te) - to you; for you; सः (saḥ) - he; हि (hi) - indeed; माम् (mām) - me; अवमंस्यते (avamaṃsyate) - will consider inferior;]
(There are many female attendants of yours, O princess, obedient; another (one) send, well-being to you; for he indeed me will consider inferior.)
O princess, you have many obedient female attendants; send another one, for he will indeed think less of me. (04-14-15)

इत्यस्याः प्रददौ कांस्यं सपिधानं हिरण्मयम्। सा शङ्कमाना रुदती दैवं शरणमीयुषी ॥०४-१४-१७॥
ityasyāḥ pradadau kāṁsyaṁ sapidhānaṁ hiraṇmayam। sā śaṅkamānā rudatī daivaṁ śaraṇamīyuṣī ॥04-14-17॥

[अन्तर्हितम् (antarhitam) - disappeared; withdrawn; ततः (tataḥ) - then; from there; तस्या (tasyāḥ) - her; रक्षः (rakṣaḥ) - Rakshasa; demon; रक्षार्थम् (rakṣārtham) - for protection; आदिशत् (ādiśat) - he commanded; he ordered; तत् (tat) - that; च (ca) - and; एनाम् (enām) - her (accusative); न (na) - not; अजहात् (ajahāt) - did abandon; तत्र (tatra) - there; सर्वावस्थासु (sarvāvasthāsu) - in all conditions; in every situation; अनिन्दिताम् (aninditām) - the blameless one;]
(Disappeared then from her, the Rakshasa for protection commanded. And that (Rakshasa) did not abandon her there in all conditions, the blameless one.)
Then that Rakshasa, having become invisible, ordered protection for her. And he did not abandon her, the blameless one, in any situation there. (04-14-20)
तां मृगीमिव वित्रस्तां दृष्ट्वा कृष्णां समीपगाम्। उदतिष्ठन्मुदा सूतो नावं लब्ध्वेव पारगः ॥०४-१४-२१॥
tāṃ mṛgīm iva vitrastāṃ dṛṣṭvā kṛṣṇāṃ samīpagām। udatiṣṭhan mudā sūto nāvaṃ labdhvaiva pāragaḥ॥04-14-21॥
[ताम् (tām) - her; मृगीम् (mṛgīm) - doe; इव (iva) - like; वित्रस्ताम् (vitrastām) - terrified; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; कृष्णाम् (kṛṣṇām) - Kṛṣṇā; समीपगाम् (samīpagām) - approaching (coming near); उदतिष्ठन् (udatiṣṭhan) - rose up; मुदा (mudā) - with joy; सूतः (sūtaḥ) - the charioteer; नावम् (nāvam) - boat; लब्ध्वा (labdhvā) - having obtained; इव (iva) - as if; पारगः (pāragaḥ) - one who wishes to cross to the other shore;]
(Her, like a terrified doe, having seen Kṛṣṇā approaching, rose up with joy the charioteer, as if having obtained a boat, the one who wishes to cross to the other shore.)
When he saw Kṛṣṇā approaching, terrified like a frightened doe, the charioteer joyfully rose up, as if someone wishing to cross over had found a boat. (04-14-21)
