स तां दृष्ट्वा विशालाक्षीं राजपुत्रीं सखीं सखा। प्रहसन्नब्रवीद्राजन्कुत्रागमनमित्युत ॥०४-३५-१॥
sa tāṃ dṛṣṭvā viśālākṣīṃ rājaputrīṃ sakhīṃ sakhā। prahasannabravīdrājankutrāgamanamityuta ॥04-35-1॥
[स (sa) - he; तां (tāṃ) - her; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; विशालाक्षीं (viśālākṣīṃ) - large-eyed; राजपुत्रीं (rājaputrīṃ) - princess; सखीं (sakhīṃ) - friend (female); सखा (sakhā) - friend (male); प्रहसन्न (prahasan) - smiling; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; राजन् (rājan) - O king; कुत्र (kutra) - where; आगमनम् (āgamanam) - arrival; इति (iti) - thus; उत (uta) - indeed;]
(He, having seen her, the large-eyed princess, friend (female), (his) friend (male), smiling, said, O king, where (is the) arrival, thus indeed.)
He, having seen her, the large-eyed princess and his female friend, his male friend smilingly said, "O king, where have you come from?" (4-35-1)
तमब्रवीद्राजपुत्री समुपेत्य नरर्षभम्। प्रणयं भावयन्ती स्म सखीमध्य इदं वचः ॥०४-३५-२॥
tam abravīd rājaputrī samupetya nararṣabham। praṇayaṃ bhāvayantī sma sakhīmadhya idaṃ vacaḥ ॥04-35-2॥

(Him spoke the princess, having approached the bull among men, cherishing affection, indeed, in the midst of friends, this speech.)

गावो राष्ट्रस्य कुरुभिः काल्यन्ते नो बृहन्नडे। तान्विजेतुं मम भ्राता प्रयास्यति धनुर्धरः ॥०४-३५-३॥
gāvo rāṣṭrasya kurubhiḥ kālyante no bṛhannaḍe. tān vijetuṃ mama bhrātā prayāsyati dhanurdharaḥ ॥04-35-3॥
[गावो (gāvaḥ) - cows; राष्ट्रस्य (rāṣṭrasya) - of the kingdom; कुरुभिः (kurubhiḥ) - by the Kurus; काल्यन्ते (kālyante) - are being driven (or oppressed); नो (naḥ) - our; बृहन्नडे (bṛhannaḍe) - in the large cattle-shed; तान् (tān) - them; विजेतुम् (vijetuṃ) - to conquer; मम (mama) - my; भ्राता (bhrātā) - brother; प्रयास्यति (prayāsyati) - will go; धनुर्धरः (dhanurdharaḥ) - the bowman;]
(The cows of the kingdom are being driven by the Kurus in the large cattle-shed of ours. In order to conquer them, my brother, the bowman, will go.)
The cows of our kingdom are being driven by the Kurus in the great cattle-shed. To recover them, my brother, the bowman, will go. (04-35-3)
नचिरं च हतस्तस्य सङ्ग्रामे रथसारथिः। तेन नास्ति समः सूतो योऽस्य सारथ्यमाचरेत् ॥०४-३५-४॥
naciraṃ ca hatastasya saṅgrāme rathasārathiḥ। tena nāsti samaḥ sūto yo'sya sārathyamācareta ॥04-35-4॥
[नचिरं (naciram) - not long (ago); च (ca) - and; हतः (hataḥ) - slain; तस्य (tasya) - his; सङ्ग्रामे (saṅgrāme) - in battle; रथसारथिः (rathasārathiḥ) - charioteer; तेन (tena) - by him; नास्ति (nāsti) - there is no; समः (samaḥ) - equal; सूतः (sūtaḥ) - charioteer; यः (yaḥ) - who; अस्य (asya) - his; सारथ्यम् (sārathyam) - the act of charioteering; आचरेत् (ācaret) - could perform;]
(Not long (ago) and slain his in battle charioteer. By him there is no equal charioteer who his charioteering could perform.)
Not long ago, his charioteer was slain in battle. By him, there is no equal charioteer who could perform his charioteering. (04-35-4)
तस्मै प्रयतमानाय सारथ्यर्थं बृहन्नडे। आचचक्षे हयज्ञाने सैरन्ध्री कौशलं तव ॥०४-३५-५॥
tasmai prayatamānāya sārathyarthaṁ bṛhannade। ācacakṣe hayajñāne sairandhrī kauśalaṁ tava ॥04-35-5॥

(To him endeavoring, for the purpose of charioteering, to Bṛhannadā, explained in the science of horses Sairandhrī your skill.)
To Bṛhannadā, who was endeavoring for the purpose of charioteering, Sairandhrī explained to you the skill in the science of horses. (04-35-5)
सा सारथ्यं मम भ्रातुः कुरु साधु बृहन्नडे। पुरा दूरतरं गावो ह्रियन्ते कुरुभिर्हि नः ॥०४-३५-६॥
sā sārathyaṃ mama bhrātuḥ kuru sādhu bṛhannade| purā dūrataraṃ gāvo hriyante kurubhir hi naḥ ॥04-35-6॥
[सा (sā) - she; सारथ्यं (sārathyaṃ) - charioteering; मम (mama) - my; भ्रातुः (bhrātuḥ) - brother's; कुरु (kuru) - do; साधु (sādhu) - properly; बृहन्नडे (bṛhannade) - O Bṛhannada; पुरा (purā) - before; दूरतरं (dūrataraṃ) - do farther; गावः (gāvaḥ) - cows; ह्रियन्ते (hriyante) - are being taken away; कुरुभिः (kurubhiḥ) - by the Kurus; हि (hi) - indeed; नः (naḥ) - our;]
(She do my brother's charioteering properly, O Bṛhannada, before the cows are taken farther away by the Kurus indeed from us.)
O Bṛhannada, please skillfully become my brother's charioteer before our cows are carried farther away by the Kurus. (04-35-6)
अथैतद्वचनं मेऽद्य नियुक्ता न करिष्यसि। प्रणयादुच्यमाना त्वं परित्यक्ष्यामि जीवितम् ॥०४-३५-७॥
athaitadvacanaṃ me'dya niyuktā na kariṣyasi। praṇayāducyamānā tvaṃ parityakṣyāmi jīvitam ॥04-35-7॥
[अथ (atha) - now; then; एतद्-वचनम् (etad-vacanam) - this word; this command; मे (me) - my; of me; अद्य (adya) - today; नियुक्ता (niyuktā) - being instructed; appointed; न (na) - not; करिष्यसि (kariṣyasi) - you will do; प्रणयात् (praṇayāt) - from affection; out of love; उच्यमाना (ucyamānā) - being spoken; being addressed; त्वम् (tvam) - you; परित्यक्ष्यामि (parityakṣyāmi) - I will abandon; जीवितम् (jīvitam) - life;]
(Now this word of mine today, being instructed, if you will not do, being spoken out of affection, you, I will abandon life.)
Now, if, being instructed, you do not carry out this word of mine today, though I speak out of affection, I will give up my life. (04-35-7)
एवमुक्तस्तु सुश्रोण्या तया सख्या परन्तपः। जगाम राजपुत्रस्य सकाशममितौजसः ॥०४-३५-८॥
evam-uktas tu suśroṇyā tayā sakhyā parantapaḥ। jagāma rājaputrasya sakāśam amita-ojasah ॥04-35-8॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्तः (uktaḥ) - addressed; तु (tu) - but; सुश्रोण्या (suśroṇyā) - by Suśroṇī (of beautiful hips); तया (tayā) - by her; सख्या (sakhyā) - by the friend; परन्तपः (parantapaḥ) - the scorcher of foes; जगाम (jagāma) - went; राजपुत्रस्य (rājaputrasya) - of the prince; सकाशम् (sakāśam) - to the presence; अमितौजसः (amita-ojasah) - of boundless energy;]
(Thus addressed but by Suśroṇī, by her, by the friend, the scorcher of foes went to the presence of the prince of boundless energy.)

तं सा व्रजन्तं त्वरितं प्रभिन्नमिव कुञ्जरम्। अन्वगच्छद्विशालाक्षी शिशुर्गजवधूरिव ॥०४-३५-९॥
taṃ sā vrajantaṃ tvaritaṃ prabhinnam iva kuñjaram। anvagacchad viśālākṣī śiśur gaja-vadhūr iva ॥04-35-9॥
[तं (taṃ) - him; सा (sā) - she; व्रजन्तं (vrajantam) - going; त्वरितं (tvaritam) - hurried; प्रभिन्नम् (prabhinnam) - broken; इव (iva) - like; कुञ्जरम् (kuñjaram) - elephant; अन्वगच्छत् (anvagacchat) - followed; विशालाक्षी (viśālākṣī) - the large-eyed one; शिशुः (śiśuḥ) - the young; गजवधूः (gaja-vadhūḥ) - elephant-cow; इव (iva) - like;]
(She, the large-eyed one, followed him who was going hurried, like a broken elephant, just as a young elephant-cow (would);)
The large-eyed lady followed him as he hurried along like a wild or broken elephant, just as a young elephant-cow follows.
दूरादेव तु तं प्रेक्ष्य राजपुत्रोऽभ्यभाषत। त्वया सारथिना पार्थः खाण्डवेऽग्निमतर्पयत् ॥०४-३५-१०॥
dūrādeva tu taṃ prekṣya rājaputro'bhyabhāṣata। tvayā sārathinā pārthaḥ khāṇḍave'gnimatarpayat ॥04-35-10॥
[दूरात् एव (dūrāt eva) - from afar indeed; तु (tu) - but; तं (taṃ) - him; प्रेक्ष्य (prekṣya) - having seen; राजपुत्रः (rājaputraḥ) - the prince; अभ्यभाषत (abhyabhāṣata) - addressed; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; सारथिना (sārathinā) - by the charioteer; पार्थः (pārthaḥ) - Pārtha (Arjuna); खाण्डवे (khāṇḍave) - in Khāṇḍava (forest); अग्निम् (agnim) - Agni; अतर्पयत् (atarpayat) - satisfied;]
(But from afar, having seen him, the prince addressed (thus): By you, the charioteer, Pārtha satisfied Agni in Khāṇḍava.)
But seeing him from a distance, the prince spoke: By you as his charioteer, Pārtha satisfied Agni in the Khāṇḍava forest. (04-35-10)
पृथिवीमजयत्कृत्स्नां कुन्तीपुत्रो धनञ्जयः। सैरन्ध्री त्वां समाचष्ट सा हि जानाति पाण्डवान् ॥०४-३५-११॥
pṛthivīm ajayat kṛtsnām kuntī-putro dhanañjayaḥ। sairandhrī tvāṃ samācaṣṭa sā hi jānāti pāṇḍavān॥04-35-11॥
[पृथिवीम् (pṛthivīm) - earth (object); अजयत् (ajayat) - conquered; कृत्स्नाम् (kṛtsnām) - entire; कुन्तीपुत्रः (kuntī-putraḥ) - son of Kuntī; धनञ्जयः (dhanañjayaḥ) - Dhanañjaya (another name for Arjuna); सैरन्ध्री (sairandhrī) - Sairandhrī (Draupadī in disguise); त्वाम् (tvām) - you (object); समाचष्ट (samācaṣṭa) - has described; सा (sā) - she; हि (hi) - indeed; जानाति (jānāti) - knows; पाण्डवान् (pāṇḍavān) - the Pāṇḍavas;]
(The son of Kuntī, Dhanañjaya, conquered the entire earth. Sairandhrī has described you; she indeed knows the Pāṇḍavas.)
Dhanañjaya, the son of Kuntī, conquered the whole world. Sairandhrī has spoken of you; for she truly knows the Pāṇḍavas. (04-35-11)
संयच्छ मामकानश्वांस्तथैव त्वं बृहन्नडे। कुरुभिर्योत्स्यमानस्य गोधनानि परीप्सतः ॥०४-३५-१२॥
saṁyaccha māmakānaśvāṁs tathaiva tvaṁ bṛhannade। kurubhir yotsyamānasya godhanāni parīpsataḥ ॥04-35-12॥
[संयच्छ (saṁyaccha) - restrain; मामकान् (māmakān) - my; अश्वान् (aśvān) - horses; तथैव (tathaiva) - in the same way; त्वं (tvaṁ) - you; बृहन्नडे (bṛhannade) - O Bṛhannada; कुरुभिः (kurubhiḥ) - by the Kurus; योत्स्यमानस्य (yotsyamānasya) - about to fight; गोधनानि (godhanāni) - herds of cows; परीप्सतः (parīpsataḥ) - desiring to seize;]
(Restrain my horses; in the same way, you, O Bṛhannada, (restrain) the herds of cows of the one about to fight with the Kurus, desirous to seize.)
Restrain my horses; in the same manner, you, O Bṛhannada, restrain the herds of cows belonging to the one who is about to fight with the Kurus, wishing to seize them. (04-35-12)
अर्जुनस्य किलासीस्त्वं सारथिर्दयितः पुरा। त्वयाजयत्सहायेन पृथिवीं पाण्डवर्षभः ॥०४-३५-१३॥
arjunasya kilāsīstvaṁ sārathirdayitaḥ purā। tvayājayatsahāyena pṛthivīṁ pāṇḍavarṣabhaḥ ॥04-35-13॥
[अर्जुनस्य (arjunasya) - of Arjuna; किल (kil) - indeed; असीः (asīḥ) - (you) were; त्वं (tvaṁ) - you; सारथिः (sārathiḥ) - charioteer; दयितः (dayitaḥ) - beloved; पुरा (purā) - formerly; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; अजयत् (ajayat) - conquered; सहायेन (sahāyena) - with the assistance; पृथिवीम् (pṛthivīm) - the earth; पाण्डवर्षभः (pāṇḍavarṣabhaḥ) - the bull among the Pāṇḍavas;]
(Of Arjuna indeed (you) were you charioteer beloved formerly. By you having conquered with the assistance the earth the bull among the Pāṇḍavas.)
You were indeed formerly Arjuna's beloved charioteer. With your assistance, the bull among the Pāṇḍavas conquered the earth. (04-35-13)
एवमुक्ता प्रत्युवाच राजपुत्रं बृहन्नडा। का शक्तिर्मम सारथ्यं कर्तुं सङ्ग्राममूर्धनि ॥०४-३५-१४॥
evamuktā pratyuvāca rājaputraṃ bṛhannadā. kā śaktirmama sārathyaṃ kartuṃ saṃgrāmamūrdhani ॥04-35-14॥
[एवम्-उक्ता (evam-uktā) - thus-spoken; thus addressed; प्रत्युवाच (pratyuvāca) - replied; spoke in return; राजपुत्रम् (rājaputram) - prince; बृहन्नडा (bṛhannadā) - Bṛhannadā; (proper noun); का (kā) - what; which; (feminine, nominative singular, interrogative pronoun) शक्तिः (śaktiḥ) - power; ability; मम (mama) - my; सारथ्यम् (sārathyam) - the task of being a charioteer; कर्तुम् (kartum) - to do; to perform; सङ्ग्राम-मूर्धनि (saṃgrāma-mūrdhani) - on the crest (forefront) of battle;]
(Thus addressed, replied to the prince, Bṛhannadā: "What power is mine to do charioteering at the peak of battle?")
Thus addressed, Bṛhannadā replied to the prince: "What power do I have to act as a charioteer on the battlefield's front?" (04-35-14)
गीतं वा यदि वा नृत्तं वादित्रं वा पृथग्विधम्। तत्करिष्यामि भद्रं ते सारथ्यं तु कुतो मयि ॥०४-३५-१५॥
gītaṁ vā yadi vā nṛttaṁ vāditraṁ vā pṛthag-vidham। tat kariṣyāmi bhadraṁ te sārathyaṁ tu kuto mayi॥04-35-15॥
[गीतं (gītaṁ) (gītaṁ) - song; वा (vā) (vā) - or; यदि (yadi) (yadi) - if; वा (vā) (vā) - or; नृत्तं (nṛttaṁ) (nṛttaṁ) - dance; वादित्रं (vāditram) (vāditram) - musical instrument; वा (vā) (vā) - or; पृथग्विधम् (pṛthag-vidham) (pṛthag-vidham) - of various kinds; तत् (tat) (tat) - that; करिष्यामि (kariṣyāmi) (kariṣyāmi) - I shall do; भद्रं (bhadraṁ) (bhadraṁ) - good; ते (te) (te) - for you; सारथ्यं (sārathyaṁ) (sārathyaṁ) - charioteering; तु (tu) (tu) - but; कुतः (kutaḥ) (kutaḥ) - how (from where); मयि (mayi) (mayi) - in me;]
(Song or if or dance or musical instrument of various kinds that I shall do, good for you; charioteering but how (from where) in me?)
Whether it is singing, or dancing, or playing on various musical instruments, I will do that for you; but how can I act as a charioteer? (04-35-15)

बृहन्नडे गायनो वा नर्तनो वा पुनर्भव। क्षिप्रं मे रथमास्थाय निगृह्णीष्व हयोत्तमान् ॥०४-३५-१६॥
bṛhannade gāyano vā nartano vā punarbhava। kṣipraṃ me ratham āsthāya nigṛhṇīṣva hayottamān ॥04-35-16॥
[बृहन्नडे (bṛhannade) - O Bṛhannada; गायनो (gāyanaḥ) - singer; वा (vā) - or; नर्तनो (nartanaḥ) - dancer; वा (vā) - or; पुनर्भव (punar bhava) - become again; क्षिप्रं (kṣipram) - quickly; मे (me) - my; रथम् (ratham) - chariot; आस्थाय (āsthāya) - mounting; निगृह्णीष्व (nigṛhṇīṣva) - take hold; हयोत्तमान् (hayottamān) - excellent horses;]
(O Bṛhannada, singer or dancer or become again; quickly my chariot mounting, take hold of the excellent horses.)
O Bṛhannada, whether as a singer or a dancer, resume your task again; quickly mount my chariot and take hold of the excellent horses. (04-35-16)

स तत्र नर्मसंयुक्तमकरोत्पाण्डवो बहु। उत्तरायाः प्रमुखतः सर्वं जानन्नरिंदम ॥०४-३५-१७॥
sa tatra narma-saṁyuktam akarot pāṇḍavaḥ bahu। uttarāyāḥ pramukhataḥ sarvaṁ jānan nariṁdama ॥04-35-17॥
[स (sa) - he; तत्र (tatra) - there; नर्मसंयुक्तम् (narma-saṁyuktam) - with jest; अकरोत् (akarot) - did; पाण्डवः (pāṇḍavaḥ) - the Pāṇḍava (Arjuna); बहु (bahu) - much; उत्तरायाः (uttarāyāḥ) - of Uttarā; प्रमुखतः (pramukhataḥ) - in presence; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; जानन् (jānan) - knowing; नरिंदम (nariṁdama) - O subduer of men;]
(He there with jest did much, the Pāṇḍava, in presence of Uttarā, all knowing, O subduer of men.)
There, the Pāṇḍava did many playful things in Uttarā’s presence, knowing everything, O subduer of men. (04-35-17)
ऊर्ध्वमुत्क्षिप्य कवचं शरीरे प्रत्यमुञ्चत। कुमार्यस्तत्र तं दृष्ट्वा प्राहसन्पृथुलोचनाः ॥०४-३५-१८॥
ūrdhvam utkṣipya kavacaṃ śarīre praty amuñcata। kumāryas tatra taṃ dṛṣṭvā prāhasan pṛthulocanāḥ ॥04-35-18॥
[ऊर्ध्वम् (ūrdhvam) - upwards; उत्क्षिप्य (utkṣipya) - having lifted; कवचम् (kavacam) - armor; शरीरे (śarīre) - upon (his) body; प्रत्य् (praty) - again; अमुञ्चत (amuñcata) - he put on; कुमार्यः (kumāryaḥ) - maidens; तत्र (tatra) - there; तम् (tam) - him; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; प्राहसन् (prāhasan) - smiled; पृथुलोचनाः (pṛthulocanāḥ) - wide-eyed (ones);]
(Upwards having lifted the armor upon the body, again he put on. The maidens there, having seen him, smiled, the wide-eyed ones.)
Having lifted the armor upwards and put it upon his body again, the maidens there, wide-eyed, saw him and smiled. (04-35-18)
स तु दृष्ट्वा विमुह्यन्तं स्वयमेवोत्तरस्ततः। कवचेन महार्हेण समनह्यद्बृहन्नडाम् ॥०४-३५-१९॥
sa tu dṛṣṭvā vimuḥyantaṃ svayam evottaras tataḥ। kavacena mahārheṇa samanahyad bṛhannadām ॥04-35-19॥
[स (sa) - he; तु (tu) - but; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; विमुह्यन्तं (vimuḥyantam) - becoming bewildered; स्वयम् (svayam) - himself; एव (eva) - indeed; उत्तरः (uttaraḥ) - Uttara (proper noun, masculine); ततः (tataḥ) - then; कवचेन (kavacena) - with armor; महार्हेण (mahārheṇa) - exceedingly precious; समनह्यत् (samanahyat) - donned; बृहन्नडाम् (bṛhannadām) - Bṛhannadā (proper noun, feminine, Arjuna in disguise);]
(He but having seen (him) becoming bewildered, Uttara himself indeed then donned exceedingly precious armor upon Bṛhannadā.)
But seeing him becoming bewildered, Uttara himself then put the exceedingly precious armor on Bṛhannadā. (04-35-19)
स बिभ्रत्कवचं चाग्र्यं स्वयमप्यंशुमत्प्रभम्। ध्वजं च सिंहमुच्छ्रित्य सारथ्ये समकल्पयत् ॥०४-३५-२०॥
sa bibhratkavacaṃ cāgryaṃ svayamapyaṃśumatprabham। dhvajaṃ ca siṃhamucchritya sārathye samakalpayat॥04-35-20॥
[स (sa) - he; बिभ्रत् (bibhrat) - bearing; कवचं (kavacaṃ) - armor; च (ca) - and; आग्र्यं (āgryaṃ) - excellent; स्वयम् (svayam) - himself; अपि (api) - also; अंशुमत्प्रभम् (aṃśumat-prabham) - radiant like the sun; ध्वजं (dhvajaṃ) - banner; च (ca) - and; सिंहम् (siṃham) - lion; उच्छ्रित्य (ucchritya) - raising; सारथ्ये (sārathye) - for the charioteer’s task; समकल्पयत् (samakalpayat) - prepared;]
(He, bearing excellent armor himself and also radiant like the sun, and after raising the banner with a lion, prepared (himself) for the charioteer's task.)
He donned excellent armor, himself shining like the sun, and, raising a banner with a lion, made preparations for the role of charioteer. (04-35-20)
धनूंषि च महार्हाणि बाणांश्च रुचिरान्बहून्। आदाय प्रययौ वीरः स बृहन्नडसारथिः ॥०४-३५-२१॥
dhanuṃṣi ca mahārhāṇi bāṇāṃś ca rucirān bahūn। ādāya prayayau vīraḥ sa bṛhannada-sārathiḥ ॥04-35-21॥
[धनूंषि (dhanuṃṣi) - bows; च (ca) - and; महार्हाणि (mahārhāṇi) - most valuable; बाणान् (bāṇān) - arrows; च (ca) - and; रुचिरान् (rucirān) - splendid; बहून् (bahūn) - many; आदाय (ādāya) - having taken; प्रययौ (prayayau) - departed; वीरः (vīraḥ) - hero; स (sa) - he; बृहन्नडसारथिः (bṛhannada-sārathiḥ) - the charioteer of Bṛhannada;]
(Bows and most valuable, arrows and splendid many, having taken, departed hero he, the charioteer of Bṛhannada.)
He, the hero and charioteer of Bṛhannada, having taken many splendid arrows and the most valuable bows, departed. (04-35-21)
अथोत्तरा च कन्याश्च सख्यस्तामब्रुवंस्तदा। बृहन्नडे आनयेथा वासांसि रुचिराणि नः ॥०४-३५-२२॥
athottarā ca kanyāś ca sakhyas tām abruvaṁs tadā। bṛhannade ānayetā vāsāṁsi rucirāṇi naḥ॥04-35-22॥
[अथ (atha) - then; उत्तरा (uttarā) - Uttarā (proper noun, a girl's name); च (ca) - and; कन्याः (kanyāḥ) - maidens; च (ca) - and; सख्यः (sakhyaḥ) - friends; ताम् (tām) - her; अब्रुवन् (abruvan) - said; तदा (tadā) - at that time; बृहन्नडे (bṛhannade) - Bṛhannadā (proper noun, a person's name); आनयेथ (ānayetā) - bring; वासांसि (vāsāṁsi) - garments; रुचिराणि (rucirāṇi) - beautiful; नः (naḥ) - for us;]
(Then Uttarā and the maidens and friends said to her at that time, "O Bṛhannadā, bring the beautiful garments for us." (04-35-22))

पाञ्चालिकार्थं सूक्ष्माणि चित्राणि विविधानि च। विजित्य सङ्ग्रामगतान्भीष्मद्रोणमुखान्कुरून् ॥०४-३५-२३॥
pāñcālikārthaṃ sūkṣmāṇi citrāṇi vividhāni ca। vijitya saṅgrāmagatānbhīṣmadroṇamukhānkūrūn ॥04-35-23॥
[पाञ्चालिक-arthं (pāñcālika-artham) - for the sake of Draupadī (the Pāñcālī); सूक्ष्माणि (sūkṣmāṇi) - subtle; delicate; चित्राणि (citrāṇi) - wonderful; विविधानि (vividhāni) - various; च (ca) - and; विजित्य (vijitya) - having conquered; सङ्ग्राम-गतान् (saṅgrāma-gatān) - those who had gone to battle; भीष्म-द्रोण-मुखान् (bhīṣma-droṇa-mukhān) - headed by Bhīṣma and Droṇa; कुरून् (kurūn) - the Kuru warriors;]
(For the sake of Draupadī, subtle, wonderful, and various (deeds); having conquered, those who had gone to battle, headed by Bhīṣma and Droṇa, the Kurus.)
For the sake of Draupadī, performing various subtle and wonderful deeds, he conquered the Kurus who had entered battle, led by Bhīṣma and Droṇa. (04-35-23)
अथ ता ब्रुवतीः कन्याः सहिताः पाण्डुनन्दनः। प्रत्युवाच हसन्पार्थो मेघदुन्दुभिनिःस्वनः ॥०४-३५-२४॥
atha tā bruvatīḥ kanyāḥ sahitāḥ pāṇḍunandanaḥ। pratyuvāca hasan pārtho meghadundubhiniḥsvanaḥ ॥04-35-24॥
[अथ (atha) - then; ता (tā) - those; ब्रुवतीः (bruvatīḥ) - speaking; कन्याः (kanyāḥ) - maidens; सहिताः (sahitāḥ) - together; पाण्डुनन्दनः (pāṇḍunandanaḥ) - son of Pāṇḍu; प्रत्युवाच (pratyuvāca) - replied; हसन् (hasan) - smiling; पार्थः (pārthaḥ) - Pārtha; मेघदुन्दुभिनिःस्वनः (meghadundubhiniḥsvanaḥ) - with the sound of thunder and kettledrum;]
(Then those speaking maidens together, the son of Pāṇḍu, replied, smiling Pārtha, with (a voice) like the sound of thunder and kettledrum.)
Then, as the maidens spoke together, the son of Pāṇḍu—Pārtha—replied with a smile, his voice resounding like thunder and a kettledrum. (04-35-24)
यद्युत्तरोऽयं सङ्ग्रामे विजेष्यति महारथान्। अथाहरिष्ये वासांसि दिव्यानि रुचिराणि च ॥०४-३५-२५॥
yady uttaro'yaṁ saṅgrāme vijeṣyati mahārathān। athāhariṣye vāsāṁsi divyāni rucirāṇi ca॥ 04-35-25॥
[यदि (yadi) - if; उत्तरोऽयम् (uttaraḥ ayam) - Uttara this (person); सङ्ग्रामे (saṅgrāme) - in battle; विजेष्यति (vijeṣyati) - will conquer; महारथान् (mahārathān) - great chariot-warriors; अथ (atha) - then; आहरिष्ये (āhariṣye) - I shall bring (back); वासांसि (vāsāṁsi) - garments; दिव्यानि (divyāni) - divine; रुचिराणि (rucirāṇi) - beautiful; च (ca) - and;]
(If this Uttara will conquer great chariot-warriors in battle, then I shall bring back garments, divine and beautiful also.)
If this Uttara conquers the great chariot-warriors in battle, then I will bring back the divine and beautiful garments as well. (04-35-25)
एवमुक्त्वा तु बीभत्सुस्ततः प्राचोदयद्धयान्। कुरूनभिमुखाञ्शूरो नानाध्वजपताकिनः ॥०४-३५-२६॥
evam uktvā tu bhībhatsus tataḥ prācodayad dhayān| kurūn abhimukhāñ śūro nānā-dhvaja-patākinaḥ ॥04-35-26॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having spoken; तु (tu) - but; बीभत्सु: (bhībhatsuḥ) - Bībhatsu (Arjuna); ततः (tataḥ) - then; प्राचोदयत् (prācodayat) - drove forward; हयान् (hayān) - horses; कुरून् (kurūn) - Kurus; अभिमुखान् (abhimukhān) - facing toward; शूरः (śūraḥ) - the hero; नाना-ध्वज-पताकिनः (nānā-dhvaja-patākinaḥ) - adorned with various banners and flags;]
(Thus having spoken but Bībhatsu then drove forward the horses toward the Kurus facing (them), the hero (who was) adorned with various banners and flags.)
Thus, having spoken, Bībhatsu (Arjuna), the hero adorned with various banners and flags, then drove the horses forward toward the Kurus.
