Mahabharata - Virāṭa Parva (महाभारत - विराटपर्वम्)
04.058
Vaiśampāyana said;
Then Duryodhana, Karṇa, Duḥśāsana, Viviṃśati, Droṇa with his son, and Kṛpa, all great chariot-warriors in battle. (04-58-1)
Again, greatly enraged with the desire to slay Dhanañjaya, they advanced, stretching their strong and firm bows. (04-58-2)
O great king, the one whose banner bears the monkey, with a chariot adorned with scattered banners and the brilliance of the sun, approached all of them. (04-58-3)
Then Kṛpa, Karṇa, and Droṇa, the best among chariot-warriors, surrounded the mighty Dhanañjaya with powerful weapons. (04-58-4)
Like clouds of the rainy season pouring down, they showered volleys of arrows upon the falling warrior wearing a crown. (04-58-5)
With many arrows, the zealous monkeys swiftly surrounded the battlefield from nearby and filled it. (04-58-6)
Thus, as he was showered on all sides by those divine weapons, not even a space as wide as two fingers of him could be seen as exposed. (04-58-7)
Then, having smiled, Bībhatsu (Arjuna), the mighty chariot-warrior, fitted the divine Indra missile, radiant like the sun, to his Gāṇḍīva bow. (04-58-8)
He, like the sun scorching with his rays in battle—mighty, crowned, the son of Kunti—covered all the Kurus. (04-58-9)
Just as lightning appears in the cloud or fire shines on a mountain peak, so the Gāṇḍīva bow looked, stretched like Indra's weapon (the rainbow). (04-58-10)
Just as when it rains in the cloud and lightning flashes in the sky, so too did the flying Gāṇḍīva cover all ten directions. (04-58-11)
All the chariot-warriors became frightened there—all of them. All of them, having become intent on peace, could not regain their own minds. All those warriors, turned away from battle, were bereft of sense. (04-58-12)
Thus, O bull among the Bharatas, all the defeated armies fled in every direction, despairing for their very lives. (04-58-13)
