vaiśampāyana uvāca॥
Vaiśampāyana spoke:
evaṃ sanatsu-jātena vidureṇa ca dhīmatā। sārdhaṃ kathayato rājñaḥ sā vyatīyāya śarvarī ॥5-46-1॥
Thus, the night passed as Sanatsujata and the wise Vidura spoke together with the king.
tasyāṃ rajanyāṃ vyuṣṭāyāṃ rājānaḥ sarva eva te। sabhāmāviviśurhṛṣṭāḥ sūtasyopadidṛkṣayā ॥5-46-2॥
During that night, as dawn broke, all the kings, filled with joy, entered the assembly with the intention of meeting the charioteer.
śuśrūṣamāṇāḥ pārthānāṃ vaco dharmārthasaṃhitam। dhṛtarāṣṭramukhāḥ sarve yayu rājasabhāṃ śubhām ॥5-46-3॥
Upon hearing the wise and meaningful words of the sons of Pṛthā, everyone, led by Dhṛtarāṣṭra, proceeded to the auspicious royal court.
sudhāvadātāṃ vistīrṇāṃ kanakājirabhūṣitām। candraprabhāṃ surucirāṃ siktāṃ paramavāriṇā ॥5-46-4॥
The place, pure as nectar and vast, adorned with golden courtyards, shines like moonlight, is beautiful, and is sprinkled with the purest water.
rucirairāsanaiḥ stīrṇāṃ kāñcanairdāravairapi। aśmasāramayairdāntaiḥ svāstīrṇaiḥ sottaracchadaiḥ ॥5-46-5॥
The area was beautifully adorned with seats made of gold, wood, and polished marble, all well-arranged with upper coverings.
bhīṣmo droṇaḥ kṛpaḥ śalyaḥ kṛtavarmā jayadrathaḥ। aśvatthāmā vikarṇaśca somadattaśca bāhlikaḥ ॥5-46-6॥
Bhishma, Drona, Kripa, Shalya, Kritavarma, Jayadratha, Ashwatthama, Vikarna, Somadatta, and Bahlika are present.
viduraśca mahāprājño yuyutsuśca mahārathaḥ। sarve ca sahitāḥ śūrāḥ pārthivā bharatarṣabha ॥ dhṛtarāṣṭraṃ puraskṛtya viviśustāṃ sabhāṃ śubhām ॥5-46-7॥
Vidura, known for his great wisdom, and Yuyutsu, a formidable chariot-warrior, along with all the heroic kings, entered the auspicious assembly, led by Dhritarashtra, O best of the Bharatas.
duḥśāsanaścitrasenaḥ śakuniścāpi saubalaḥ। durmukho duḥsahaḥ karṇa ulūko'tha viviṃśatiḥ ॥5-46-8॥
Duhshasana, Citrasena, Shakuni, Saubala, Durmukha, Duhsaha, Karna, Uluka, and Vivimshati were present.
kururājaṃ puraskṛtya duryodhanamarṣaṇam। viviśustāṃ sabhāṃ rājansurāḥ śakrasado yathā ॥5-46-9॥
The Kuru king, Duryodhana, who was impatient, was placed at the forefront as they entered the assembly, just as the gods enter the assembly of Indra, O king.
āviśadbhistadā rājañśūraiḥ parighabāhubhiḥ। śuśubhe sā sabhā rājansiṃhairiva girerguhā ॥5-46-10॥
Then, O king, the assembly, entered by heroes with club-like arms, shone like a mountain cave filled with lions.
te praviśya maheṣvāsāḥ sabhāṃ samitiśobhanāḥ। āsanāni mahārhāṇi bhejire sūryavarcasaḥ ॥5-46-11॥
The great archers entered the assembly, which was splendidly adorned, and took their seats, which were as radiant as the sun.
āsanasthēṣu sarvēṣu tēṣu rājasu bhārata। dvāḥsthō nivedayāmāsa sūtaputramupasthitam ॥5-46-12॥
O Bharata, the doorkeeper informed all the seated kings that Suta's son has arrived.
ayaṁ sa ratha āyāti yo'yāsīt pāṇḍavān prati। dūto nas tūrṇam āyātaḥ saindhavaiḥ sādhuvāhibhiḥ ॥5-46-13॥
The chariot that went towards the Pandavas is returning. Our messenger has swiftly arrived with Sindhu horses and skilled drivers.
upayāya tu sa kṣipraṃ rathātpraskandya kuṇḍalī। praviveśa sabhāṃ pūrṇāṃ mahīpālairmahātmabhiḥ ॥5-46-14॥
Kundali quickly approached, jumped down from the chariot, and entered the assembly filled with noble kings and great souls.
sañjaya uvāca॥
Sanjaya said:
prāpto'smi pāṇḍavāngatvā tadvijānīta kauravāḥ। yathāvayaḥ kurūnsarvānpratinandanti pāṇḍavāḥ ॥5-46-15॥
I have reached the Pāṇḍavas; go and inform the Kauravas that just as we greet all the Kurus, the Pāṇḍavas do the same.
abhivādayanti vṛddhāṃśca vayasyāṃśca vayasyavat। yūnaścābhyavadanpārthāḥ pratipūjya yathāvayaḥ ॥5-46-16॥
The sons of Pritha greeted the elders and peers with respect as they would their equals, and addressed the younger ones appropriately according to their age.
yathāhaṃ dhṛtarāṣṭreṇa śiṣṭaḥ pūrvamito gataḥ। abruvaṃ pāṇḍavāngatvā tannibodhata pārthivāḥ ॥5-46-17॥
As I was previously instructed by Dhritarashtra, I went and conveyed to the Pandavas, 'Understand this, O kings.'
