duryodhana vijānīhi yattvāṃ vakṣyāmi putrakaḥ। utpathaṃ manyase mārgamanabhijña ivādhvagaḥ ॥5-63-1॥
[दुर्योधन (duryodhana) - Duryodhana; विजानीहि (vijānīhi) - know; यत् (yat) - that; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; वक्ष्यामि (vakṣyāmi) - I will tell; पुत्रक (putraka) - dear son; उत्पथम् (utpatham) - wrong path; मन्यसे (manyase) - you consider; मार्गम् (mārgam) - path; अनभिज्ञः (anabhijñaḥ) - ignorant; इव (iva) - like; अध्वगः (adhvagaḥ) - traveler;]
(Duryodhana, know that I will tell you, dear son. You consider the wrong path as the path, like an ignorant traveler.)
Duryodhana, understand what I am going to tell you, my dear son. You are mistaking the wrong path for the right one, like a traveler who is unaware of the way.
पञ्चानां पाण्डुपुत्राणां यत्तेजः प्रमिमीषसि। पञ्चानामिव भूतानां महतां सुमहात्मनाम् ॥५-६३-२॥
pañcānāṃ pāṇḍuputrāṇāṃ yat tejaḥ pramimīṣasi। pañcānām iva bhūtānāṃ mahatāṃ sumahātmanām ॥5-63-2॥
[पञ्चानां (pañcānāṃ) - of the five; पाण्डुपुत्राणां (pāṇḍuputrāṇāṃ) - of the sons of Pandu; यत् (yat) - which; तेजः (tejaḥ) - splendor; प्रमिमीषसि (pramimīṣasi) - you consider; पञ्चानाम् (pañcānām) - of the five; इव (iva) - like; भूतानां (bhūtānāṃ) - of beings; महताम् (mahatām) - great; सुमहात्मनाम् (sumahātmanām) - of the great souls;]
(The splendor of the five sons of Pandu, which you consider, is like that of the five great beings, the great souls.)

भीमसेनं च कौन्तेयं यस्य नास्ति समो बले। रणान्तकं तर्कयसे महावातमिव द्रुमः ॥५-६३-४॥
bhīmasenaṃ ca kaunteyaṃ yasya nāsti samo bale। raṇāntakaṃ tarkayase mahāvātamiva drumaḥ ॥5-63-4॥
[भीमसेनं (bhīmasenaṃ) - Bhimasena; च (ca) - and; कौन्तेयं (kaunteyaṃ) - son of Kunti; यस्य (yasya) - whose; नास्ति (nāsti) - there is no; समः (samaḥ) - equal; बले (bale) - in strength; रणान्तकं (raṇāntakaṃ) - destroyer of foes; तर्कयसे (tarkayase) - you consider; महावातमिव (mahāvātamiva) - like a great wind; द्रुमः (drumaḥ) - tree;]
(Bhimasena and the son of Kunti, whose equal in strength there is none, you consider the destroyer of foes like a great wind to a tree.)

sarvaśastrabhṛtāṃ śreṣṭhaṃ meruṃ śikhariṇāmiva। yudhi gāṇḍīvadhanvānaṃ ko nu yudhyeta buddhimān ॥5-63-5॥
[सर्व (sarva) - all; शस्त्रभृताम् (śastrabhṛtām) - of the weapon-bearers; श्रेष्ठम् (śreṣṭham) - best; मेरुम् (merum) - Meru; शिखरिणाम् (śikhariṇām) - of the peaks; इव (iva) - like; युधि (yudhi) - in battle; गाण्डीवधन्वानम् (gāṇḍīvadhanvānam) - the wielder of the Gandiva bow; कः (kaḥ) - who; नु (nu) - indeed; युध्येत (yudhyeta) - would fight; बुद्धिमान् (buddhimān) - wise;]
(Who indeed, being wise, would fight in battle with the wielder of the Gandiva bow, the best of all weapon-bearers, like Meru among the peaks?)

धृष्टद्युम्नश्च पाञ्चाल्यः कमिवाद्य न शातयेत्। शत्रुमध्ये शरान्मुञ्चन्देवराडशनीमिव ॥५-६३-६॥

(Dhṛṣṭadyumna, the son of Pāñcāla, whom would he not slay today, like Indra releasing arrows like thunderbolts in the midst of enemies?)
Dhṛṣṭadyumna, the son of Pāñcāla, is ready to slay anyone today, like Indra releasing his thunderbolt among enemies.
सात्यकिश्चापि दुर्धर्षः संमतोऽन्धकवृष्णिषु। ध्वंसयिष्यति ते सेनां पाण्डवेयहिते रतः ॥५-६३-७॥
sātyakiścāpi durdharṣaḥ saṁmato'ndhakavṛṣṇiṣu। dhvaṁsayiṣyati te senāṁ pāṇḍaveyahite rataḥ ॥5-63-7॥
[सात्यकिः (sātyakiḥ) - Satyaki; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; दुर्धर्षः (durdharṣaḥ) - invincible; संमतः (saṁmataḥ) - respected; अन्धकवृष्णिषु (andhakavṛṣṇiṣu) - among the Andhakas and Vrishnis; ध्वंसयिष्यति (dhvaṁsayiṣyati) - will destroy; ते (te) - your; सेनाम् (senām) - army; पाण्डवेयहिते (pāṇḍaveyahite) - for the welfare of the Pandavas; रतः (rataḥ) - engaged in;]
(Satyaki, who is invincible and respected among the Andhakas and Vrishnis, will destroy your army, being engaged in the welfare of the Pandavas.)
Satyaki, esteemed among the Andhakas and Vrishnis and known for his invincibility, is committed to the Pandavas' cause and will annihilate your forces.
यः पुनः प्रतिमानेन त्रीँल्लोकानतिरिच्यते। तं कृष्णं पुण्डरीकाक्षं को नु युध्येत बुद्धिमान् ॥५-६३-८॥
yaḥ punaḥ pratimānena trī̱ṁllokān atiricyate। taṁ kṛṣṇaṁ puṇḍarīkākṣaṁ ko nu yudhyeta buddhimān ॥5-63-8॥
[यः (yaḥ) - who; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; प्रतिमानेन (pratimānena) - by measure; त्रीँल्लोकान् (trī̱ṁllokān) - three worlds; अतिरिच्यते (atiricyate) - exceeds; तं (tam) - him; कृष्णं (kṛṣṇam) - Krishna; पुण्डरीकाक्षं (puṇḍarīkākṣam) - lotus-eyed; कः (kaḥ) - who; नु (nu) - indeed; युध्येत (yudhyeta) - would fight; बुद्धिमान् (buddhimān) - wise;]
(Who again, by measure, exceeds the three worlds; who indeed, being wise, would fight him, Krishna, the lotus-eyed?)

एकतो ह्यस्य दाराश्च ज्ञातयश्च सबान्धवाः। आत्मा च पृथिवी चेयमेकतश्च धनञ्जयः ॥५-६३-९॥
ekato hy asya dārāś ca jñātayaś ca sabāndhavāḥ। ātmā ca pṛthivī ceyam ekataś ca dhanañjayaḥ ॥5-63-9॥
[एकतः (ekataḥ) - on one side; हि (hi) - indeed; अस्य (asya) - his; दाराः (dārāḥ) - wives; च (ca) - and; ज्ञातयः (jñātayaḥ) - relatives; च (ca) - and; सबंधवाः (sabāndhavāḥ) - allies; आत्मा (ātmā) - self; च (ca) - and; पृथिवी (pṛthivī) - earth; च (ca) - and; इयम् (iyam) - this; एकतः (ekataḥ) - on the other side; च (ca) - and; धनञ्जयः (dhanañjayaḥ) - Arjuna;]
(On one side are indeed his wives, relatives, and allies; and on the other side are the self, the earth, and this Arjuna.)

वासुदेवोऽपि दुर्धर्षो यतात्मा यत्र पाण्डवः। अविषह्यं पृथिव्यापि तद्बलं यत्र केशवः ॥५-६३-१०॥

(Vasudeva, who is invincible and self-controlled, is where Pandava is. That irresistible strength is also on earth where Keshava is.)

tiṣṭha tāta satāṃ vākye suhṛdāmarthavādinām। vṛddhaṃ śāṃtanavaṃ bhīṣmaṃ titikṣasva pitāmaham ॥5-63-11॥
[तिष्ठ (tiṣṭha) - stand; तात (tāta) - dear; सतां (satāṃ) - of the virtuous; वाक्ये (vākye) - in the words; सुहृदाम् (suhṛdām) - of friends; अर्थवादिनाम् (arthavādinām) - of those who speak of purpose; वृद्धं (vṛddhaṃ) - aged; शान्तनवं (śāṃtanavaṃ) - son of Śāṃtanu; भीष्मं (bhīṣmaṃ) - Bhīṣma; तितिक्षस्व (titikṣasva) - tolerate; पितामहम् (pitāmaham) - grandfather;]
(Stand, dear, in the words of the virtuous, of friends who speak of purpose. Tolerate the aged Bhīṣma, son of Śāṃtanu, the grandfather.)
Dear one, stand firm in the counsel of the virtuous and well-meaning friends. Show tolerance towards the aged Bhīṣma, the son of Śāṃtanu and your grandfather.
मां च ब्रुवाणं शुश्रूष कुरूणामर्थवादिनम्। द्रोणं कृपं विकर्णं च महाराजं च बाह्लिकम् ॥५-६३-१२॥
māṁ ca bruvāṇaṁ śuśrūṣa kurūṇāmarthavādinam। droṇaṁ kṛpaṁ vikarṇaṁ ca mahārājaṁ ca bāhlikam ॥5-63-12॥
[मां (māṁ) - me; च (ca) - and; ब्रुवाणं (bruvāṇam) - speaking; शुश्रूष (śuśrūṣa) - listen; कुरूणाम् (kurūṇām) - of the Kurus; अर्थवादिनम् (arthavādinam) - speaking of benefits; द्रोणं (droṇam) - Droṇa; कृपं (kṛpam) - Kṛpa; विकर्णं (vikarṇam) - Vikarṇa; च (ca) - and; महाराजं (mahārājam) - great king; च (ca) - and; बाह्लिकम् (bāhlikam) - Bāhlika;]
(Me, speaking, listen to the Kurus speaking of benefits: Droṇa, Kṛpa, Vikarṇa, and the great king Bāhlika.)

एते ह्यपि यथैवाहं मन्तुमर्हसि तांस्तथा। सर्वे धर्मविदो ह्येते तुल्यस्नेहाश्च भारत ॥५-६३-१३॥
ete hyapi yathaivāhaṁ mantumarhasi tāṁstathā। sarve dharmavido hyete tulyasnehāśca bhārata ॥5-63-13॥
[एते (ete) - these; हि (hi) - indeed; अपि (api) - also; यथा (yathā) - as; एव (eva) - indeed; अहम् (aham) - I; मन्तुम् (mantum) - to consider; अर्हसि (arhasi) - you should; तान् (tān) - them; तथा (tathā) - thus; सर्वे (sarve) - all; धर्मविदः (dharmavidaḥ) - knowers of dharma; हि (hi) - indeed; एते (ete) - these; तुल्य (tulya) - equal; स्नेहाः (snehāḥ) - affection; च (ca) - and; भारत (bhārata) - O Bharata;]
(These indeed also, as I should consider them thus. All are knowers of dharma indeed, these are equal in affection, O Bharata.)
"These, indeed, should be considered by you as I do. All of them are knowers of dharma and are equally affectionate, O Bharata."
यत्तद्विराटनगरे सह भ्रातृभिरग्रतः। उत्सृज्य गाः सुसन्त्रस्तं बलं ते समशीर्यत ॥५-६३-१४॥
yattadvirāṭanagare saha bhrātṛbhiragrataḥ। utsṛjya gāḥ susantrastaṃ balaṃ te samaśīryata ॥5-63-14॥
[यत् (yat) - which; तत् (tat) - that; विराटनगरे (virāṭanagare) - in the city of Virata; सह (saha) - with; भ्रातृभिः (bhrātṛbhiḥ) - brothers; अग्रतः (agrataḥ) - in front; उत्सृज्य (utsṛjya) - having abandoned; गाः (gāḥ) - cows; सुसन्त्रस्तम् (susantrastam) - very frightened; बलम् (balam) - army; ते (te) - they; समशीर्यत (samaśīryata) - scattered;]
(Which, in the city of Virata, with brothers in front, having abandoned the cows, the very frightened army, they scattered.)

यच्चैव तस्मिन्नगरे श्रूयते महदद्भुतम्। एकस्य च बहूनां च पर्याप्तं तन्निदर्शनम् ॥५-६३-१५॥
yaccaiva tasminnagare śrūyate mahadadbhutam। ekasya ca bahūnāṃ ca paryāptaṃ tannidarśanam ॥5-63-15॥
[यत् (yat) - that which; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; तस्मिन् (tasmin) - in that; नगरे (nagare) - city; श्रूयते (śrūyate) - is heard; महत् (mahat) - great; अद्भुतम् (adbhutam) - wonder; एकस्य (ekasya) - of one; च (ca) - and; बहूनाम् (bahūnām) - of many; च (ca) - and; पर्याप्तम् (paryāptam) - sufficient; तत् (tat) - that; निदर्शनम् (nidarśanam) - example;]
(That which is heard as a great wonder in that city is an example of sufficiency for one and many.)
The great wonder heard in that city serves as an example of something that is sufficient for both one and many.
अर्जुनस्तत्तथाकार्षीत्किं पुनः सर्व एव ते। सभ्रातॄनभिजानीहि वृत्त्या च प्रतिपादय ॥५-६३-१६॥
arjunastattathākārṣītkiṃ punaḥ sarva eva te। sabhrātṝnabhiānīhi vṛttyā ca pratipādaya ॥5-63-16॥
