rādheyo'hamādhirathiḥ karṇastvāmabhivādaye । prāptā kimarthaṃ bhavatī brūhi kiṃ karavāṇi te ॥5-143-1॥
[राधेयः (rādheyaḥ) - son of Radha; अहम् (aham) - I; आधिरथिः (ādhirathiḥ) - son of Adhiratha; कर्णः (karṇaḥ) - Karna; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; अभिवादये (abhivādaye) - greet; प्राप्ता (prāptā) - arrived; किमर्थम् (kimartham) - for what purpose; भवती (bhavatī) - you; ब्रूहि (brūhi) - tell; किम् (kim) - what; करवाणि (karavāṇi) - shall I do; ते (te) - for you;]
(I, Karna, son of Radha and Adhiratha, greet you. For what purpose have you arrived? Tell me what shall I do for you.)
I am Karna, son of Radha and Adhiratha, and I greet you. Please tell me the purpose of your visit and what I can do for you.

कौन्तेयस्त्वं न राधेयो न तवाधिरथः पिता । नासि सूतकुले जातः कर्ण तद्विद्धि मे वचः ॥५-१४३-२॥
kaunteyastvaṁ na rādheyo na tavādhirathaḥ pitā । nāsi sūtakule jātaḥ karṇa tadviddhi me vacaḥ ॥5-143-2॥
[कौन्तेयः (kaunteyaḥ) - son of Kunti; त्वं (tvaṁ) - you; न (na) - not; राधेयः (rādheyaḥ) - son of Radha; न (na) - not; तव (tava) - your; अधिरथः (adhirathaḥ) - Adhiratha; पिता (pitā) - father; न (na) - not; असि (asi) - are; सूतकुले (sūtakule) - in the charioteer's family; जातः (jātaḥ) - born; कर्ण (karṇa) - Karna; तत् (tat) - that; विद्धि (viddhi) - know; मे (me) - my; वचः (vacaḥ) - words;]
(Son of Kunti, you are not the son of Radha, nor is Adhiratha your father. You are not born in the charioteer's family, Karna, know that my words.)
Karna, you are actually the son of Kunti, not Radha, and Adhiratha is not your father. You were not born into a charioteer's family. Know this as my words.
कानीनस्त्वं मया जातः पूर्वजः कुक्षिणा धृतः । कुन्तिभोजस्य भवने पार्थस्त्वमसि पुत्रक ॥५-१४३-३॥
kānīnastvaṃ mayā jātaḥ pūrvajaḥ kukṣiṇā dhṛtaḥ । kuntibhojasya bhavane pārthastvamasi putraka ॥5-143-3॥
[कानीनः (kānīnaḥ) - born out of wedlock; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; मया (mayā) - by me; जातः (jātaḥ) - born; पूर्वजः (pūrvajaḥ) - elder; कुक्षिणा (kukṣiṇā) - in the womb; धृतः (dhṛtaḥ) - held; कुन्तिभोजस्य (kuntibhojasya) - of Kuntibhoja; भवने (bhavane) - in the house; पार्थः (pārthaḥ) - son of Pritha; त्वम् (tvam) - you; असि (asi) - are; पुत्रक (putraka) - dear son;]
(You were born out of wedlock by me, held in the womb, elder. In the house of Kuntibhoja, you are the son of Pritha, dear son.)

प्रकाशकर्मा तपनो योऽयं देवो विरोचनः । अजीजनत्त्वां मय्येष कर्ण शस्त्रभृतां वरम् ॥५-१४३-४॥
prakāśakarmā tapano yo'yaṃ devo virocanaḥ । ajījanattvāṃ mayyeṣa karṇa śastrabhṛtāṃ varam ॥5-143-4॥
[प्रकाशकर्मा (prakāśakarmā) - performer of illuminating actions; तपनः (tapanaḥ) - the burning one; यः (yaḥ) - who; अयम् (ayam) - this; देवः (devaḥ) - god; विरोचनः (virocanaḥ) - Virocana; अजीजनत् (ajījanat) - created; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; मयि (mayi) - in me; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this; कर्णः (karṇaḥ) - Karna; शस्त्रभृताम् (śastrabhṛtām) - of weapon-bearers; वरम् (varam) - the best;]
(The performer of illuminating actions, the burning one, this god Virocana, created you in me, this Karna, the best of weapon-bearers.)
The god Virocana, known for his illuminating actions and burning nature, created you, Karna, as the best among weapon-bearers, within me.
कुण्डली बद्धकवचो देवगर्भः श्रिया वृतः । जातस्त्वमसि दुर्धर्ष मया पुत्र पितुर्गृहे ॥५-१४३-५॥
kuṇḍalī baddhakavaco devagarbhaḥ śriyā vṛtaḥ । jātastvamasi durdharṣa mayā putra piturgṛhe ॥5-143-5॥
[कुण्डली (kuṇḍalī) - coiled; बद्धकवचः (baddhakavacaḥ) - armored; देवगर्भः (devagarbhaḥ) - divine womb; श्रिया (śriyā) - with splendor; वृतः (vṛtaḥ) - surrounded; जातः (jātaḥ) - born; त्वम् (tvam) - you; असि (asi) - are; दुर्धर्षः (durdharṣaḥ) - invincible; मया (mayā) - by me; पुत्र (putra) - son; पितुः (pituḥ) - father's; गृहे (gṛhe) - house;]
(Coiled, armored, divine womb, with splendor surrounded, born you are invincible by me, son, in father's house.)
You, who are coiled and armored, born of a divine womb and surrounded by splendor, are invincible, my son, born in your father's house.
स त्वं भ्रातॄनसम्बुद्ध्वा मोहाद्यदुपसेवसे । धार्तराष्ट्रान्न तद्युक्तं त्वयि पुत्र विशेषतः ॥५-१४३-६॥
sa tvaṃ bhrātṝnasambuddhvā mohādyadupasevase । dhārtarāṣṭrānna tadyuktaṃ tvayi putra viśeṣataḥ ॥5-143-6॥
[स (sa) - he; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; भ्रातॄन् (bhrātṝn) - brothers; असम्बुद्ध्वा (asambuddhvā) - without understanding; मोहात् (mohāt) - due to delusion; यत् (yat) - that; उपसेवसे (upasevase) - you serve; धार्तराष्ट्रान् (dhārtarāṣṭrān) - Dhritarashtra's sons; न (na) - not; तत् (tat) - that; युक्तं (yuktaṃ) - proper; त्वयि (tvayi) - for you; पुत्र (putra) - son; विशेषतः (viśeṣataḥ) - especially;]
(He, you, without understanding brothers, due to delusion, that you serve Dhritarashtra's sons, not that proper for you, son, especially.)
It is not proper for you, my son, especially to serve the sons of Dhritarashtra without understanding your brothers due to delusion.
एतद्धर्मफलं पुत्र नराणां धर्मनिश्चये । यत्तुष्यन्त्यस्य पितरो माता चाप्येकदर्शिनी ॥५-१४३-७॥
etaddharmaphalaṃ putra narāṇāṃ dharmaniścaye । yattuṣyantyasya pitaro mātā cāpyekadarśinī ॥5-143-7॥
[एतत् (etat) - this; धर्म (dharma) - duty; फलम् (phalam) - fruit; पुत्र (putra) - son; नराणाम् (narāṇām) - of men; धर्म (dharma) - duty; निश्चये (niścaye) - in determination; यत् (yat) - which; तुष्यन्ति (tuṣyanti) - are pleased; अस्य (asya) - his; पितरः (pitaraḥ) - fathers; माता (mātā) - mother; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; एकदर्शिनी (ekadarśinī) - single-minded;]
(This is the fruit of duty, O son, for men in determination of duty, which pleases his fathers and mother, also single-minded.)
This is the result of duty, O son, for men who are determined in their duty, which pleases his fathers and mother, who are also single-minded.
अर्जुनेनार्जितां पूर्वं हृतां लोभादसाधुभिः । आच्छिद्य धार्तराष्ट्रेभ्यो भुङ्क्ष्व यौधिष्ठिरीं श्रियम् ॥५-१४३-८॥
arjunenārjitāṃ pūrvaṃ hṛtāṃ lobhādasādhubhiḥ । ācchidya dhārtarāṣṭrebhyo bhuṅkṣva yaudhiṣṭhirīṃ śriyam ॥5-143-8॥
[अर्जुनेन (arjunena) - by Arjuna; अर्जितां (arjitām) - acquired; पूर्वं (pūrvam) - formerly; हृतां (hṛtām) - taken away; लोभात् (lobhāt) - out of greed; असाधुभिः (asādhubhiḥ) - by the wicked; आच्छिद्य (ācchidya) - having snatched; धार्तराष्ट्रेभ्यः (dhārtarāṣṭrebhyaḥ) - from the sons of Dhritarashtra; भुङ्क्ष्व (bhuṅkṣva) - enjoy; यौधिष्ठिरीं (yaudhiṣṭhirīm) - of Yudhishthira; श्रियम् (śriyam) - prosperity;]
(By Arjuna acquired formerly taken away out of greed by the wicked; having snatched from the sons of Dhritarashtra, enjoy the prosperity of Yudhishthira.)
The prosperity that was once acquired by Arjuna and taken away by the wicked out of greed, having been snatched back from the sons of Dhritarashtra, enjoy the wealth of Yudhishthira.
अद्य पश्यन्तु कुरवः कर्णार्जुनसमागमम् । सौभ्रात्रेण तदालक्ष्य संनमन्तामसाधवः ॥५-१४३-९॥
adya paśyantu kuravaḥ karṇārjunasamāgamam । saubhrātreṇa tadālakṣya saṁnamantāmasādhavaḥ ॥5-143-9॥
[अद्य (adya) - today; पश्यन्तु (paśyantu) - let them see; कुरवः (kuravaḥ) - Kurus; कर्णार्जुनसमागमम् (karṇārjunasamāgamam) - meeting of Karna and Arjuna; सौभ्रात्रेण (saubhrātreṇa) - with brotherhood; तदालक्ष्य (tadālakṣya) - having observed that; संनमन्ताम् (saṁnamantām) - let them bow; असाधवः (asādhavaḥ) - the wicked;]
(Today let the Kurus see the meeting of Karna and Arjuna. Having observed that with brotherhood, let the wicked bow.)
Today, the Kurus shall witness the meeting of Karna and Arjuna. Observing this with a sense of brotherhood, let the wicked bow down.
कर्णार्जुनौ वै भवतां यथा रामजनार्दनौ । असाध्यं किं नु लोके स्याद्युवयोः सहितात्मनोः ॥५-१४३-१०॥
karṇārjunau vai bhavatāṃ yathā rāmajanārdanau । asādhyaṃ kiṃ nu loke syādyuvayoḥ sahitātmanoḥ ॥5-143-10॥
[कर्णार्जुनौ (karṇārjunau) - Karna and Arjuna; वै (vai) - indeed; भवतां (bhavatāṃ) - of you; यथा (yathā) - as; रामजनार्दनौ (rāmajanārdanau) - Rama and Janardana; असाध्यं (asādhyaṃ) - impossible; किं (kiṃ) - what; नु (nu) - indeed; लोके (loke) - in the world; स्यात् (syāt) - would be; युवयोः (yuvayoḥ) - of you two; सहितात्मनोः (sahitātmanoḥ) - united in spirit;]
(Karna and Arjuna indeed of you as Rama and Janardana; impossible what indeed in the world would be of you two united in spirit.)
Just as Rama and Janardana were invincible, so too are Karna and Arjuna when united in spirit; nothing in the world would be impossible for you two.
कर्ण शोभिष्यसे नूनं पञ्चभिर्भ्रातृभिर्वृतः । वेदैः परिवृतो ब्रह्मा यथा वेदाङ्गपञ्चमैः ॥५-१४३-११॥
karṇa śobhiṣyase nūnaṃ pañcabhirbhrātṛbhirvṛtaḥ । vedaiḥ parivṛto brahmā yathā vedāṅgapañcamaiḥ ॥5-143-11॥
[कर्ण (karṇa) - Karna; शोभिष्यसे (śobhiṣyase) - you will shine; नूनं (nūnaṃ) - indeed; पञ्चभिः (pañcabhiḥ) - with five; भ्रातृभिः (bhrātṛbhiḥ) - brothers; वृतः (vṛtaḥ) - surrounded; वेदैः (vedaiḥ) - by Vedas; परिवृतः (parivṛtaḥ) - surrounded; ब्रह्मा (brahmā) - Brahma; यथा (yathā) - as; वेदाङ्ग (vedāṅga) - by Vedangas; पञ्चमैः (pañcamaiḥ) - five;]
(Karna, you will indeed shine surrounded by five brothers, as Brahma is surrounded by the Vedas and the five Vedangas.)

उपपन्नो गुणैः श्रेष्ठो ज्येष्ठः श्रेष्ठेषु बन्धुषु । सूतपुत्रेति मा शब्दः पार्थस्त्वमसि वीर्यवान् ॥५-१४३-१२॥
upapanno guṇaiḥ śreṣṭho jyeṣṭhaḥ śreṣṭheṣu bandhuṣu । sūtaputreti mā śabdaḥ pārthastvamasi vīryavān ॥5-143-12॥
[उपपन्नः (upapannaḥ) - endowed; गुणैः (guṇaiḥ) - with qualities; श्रेष्ठः (śreṣṭhaḥ) - best; ज्येष्ठः (jyeṣṭhaḥ) - eldest; श्रेष्ठेषु (śreṣṭheṣu) - among the best; बन्धुषु (bandhuṣu) - among relatives; सूतपुत्र (sūtaputra) - son of a charioteer; इति (iti) - thus; मा (mā) - do not; शब्दः (śabdaḥ) - word; पार्थ (pārtha) - O son of Pritha; त्वम् (tvam) - you; असि (asi) - are; वीर्यवान् (vīryavān) - valiant;]
(Endowed with qualities, best, eldest among the best relatives, do not use the word 'son of a charioteer', O son of Pritha, you are valiant.)
You are endowed with qualities and are the best and eldest among the best of relatives. Do not use the term 'son of a charioteer', O son of Pritha, for you are valiant.
