Sanjaya, it seemed to me that everything was contrary, where such a formidable force could not overcome the Pandavas in battle.
अथ वा पाण्डवार्थाय देवास्तत्र समागताः। युध्यन्ते मामकं सैन्यं यदवध्यन्त सञ्जय ॥६-७२-२३॥
atha vā pāṇḍavārthāya devāstatra samāgatāḥ। yudhyante māmakaṃ sainyaṃ yadavadhyanta sañjaya ॥6-72-23॥
[अथ (atha) - then; वा (vā) - or; पाण्डवार्थाय (pāṇḍavārthāya) - for the sake of the Pāṇḍavas; देवाः (devāḥ) - gods; तत्र (tatra) - there; समागताः (samāgatāḥ) - assembled; युध्यन्ते (yudhyante) - fight; मामकं (māmakaṃ) - my; सैन्यं (sainyaṃ) - army; यदवध्यन्त (yadavadhyanta) - which was being killed; सञ्जय (sañjaya) - Sañjaya;]
(Then or for the sake of the Pāṇḍavas, the gods assembled there. They fight my army, which was being killed, O Sañjaya.)

उक्तो हि विदुरेणेह हितं पथ्यं च सञ्जय। न च गृह्णाति तन्मन्दः पुत्रो दुर्योधनो मम ॥६-७२-२४॥
ukto hi vidureṇeha hitaṃ pathyaṃ ca sañjaya। na ca gṛhṇāti tanmandaḥ putro duryodhano mama ॥6-72-24॥
[उक्तः (uktaḥ) - spoken; हि (hi) - indeed; विदुरेण (vidureṇa) - by Vidura; इह (iha) - here; हितम् (hitam) - beneficial; पथ्यम् (pathyam) - wholesome; च (ca) - and; सञ्जय (sañjaya) - Sanjaya; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; गृह्णाति (gṛhṇāti) - accepts; तत् (tat) - that; मन्दः (mandaḥ) - foolish; पुत्रः (putraḥ) - son; दुर्योधनः (duryodhanaḥ) - Duryodhana; मम (mama) - my;]
(Indeed, spoken by Vidura here is beneficial and wholesome, O Sanjaya. But my foolish son Duryodhana does not accept that.)
Vidura has indeed spoken beneficial and wholesome advice here, O Sanjaya, but my foolish son Duryodhana does not accept it.
तस्य मन्ये मतिः पूर्वं सर्वज्ञस्य महात्मनः। आसीद्यथागतं तात येन दृष्टमिदं पुरा ॥६-७२-२५॥
tasya manye matiḥ pūrvaṃ sarvajñasya mahātmanaḥ। āsīdyathāgataṃ tāta yena dṛṣṭamidaṃ purā ॥6-72-25॥
[तस्य (tasya) - his; मन्ये (manye) - I think; मतिः (matiḥ) - intellect; पूर्वं (pūrvaṃ) - before; सर्वज्ञस्य (sarvajñasya) - of the omniscient; महात्मनः (mahātmanaḥ) - of the great soul; आसीत् (āsīt) - was; यथा (yathā) - as; आगतं (āgataṃ) - come; तात (tāta) - O dear; येन (yena) - by whom; दृष्टम् (dṛṣṭam) - seen; इदं (idaṃ) - this; पुरा (purā) - before;]
(I think his intellect was previously of the omniscient great soul, O dear, as this was seen by whom before.)
I believe that his intellect was once like that of the all-knowing great soul, O dear, as it was seen by someone in the past.
अथ वा भाव्यमेवं हि सञ्जयैतेन सर्वथा। पुरा धात्रा यथा सृष्टं तत्तथा न तदन्यथा ॥६-७२-२६॥
atha vā bhāvyamevaṃ hi sañjayaetena sarvathā। purā dhātrā yathā sṛṣṭaṃ tattathā na tadanyathā ॥6-72-26॥
[अथ (atha) - then; वा (vā) - or; भाव्यम् (bhāvyam) - to be; एवम् (evam) - thus; हि (hi) - indeed; सञ्जय (sañjaya) - Sanjaya; एतेन (etena) - by this; सर्वथा (sarvathā) - in every way; पुरा (purā) - formerly; धात्रा (dhātrā) - by the creator; यथा (yathā) - as; सृष्टम् (sṛṣṭam) - created; तत् (tat) - that; तथा (tathā) - so; न (na) - not; तत् (tad) - that; अन्यथा (anyathā) - otherwise;]
(Then or it is to be thus indeed, O Sanjaya, by this in every way. Formerly, by the creator, as created, so that not that otherwise.)
"Then, O Sanjaya, it is destined to be this way in every respect. As it was created by the creator in the past, so it is, and not otherwise."
