7.147 With the day almost over and Jayadratha hidden, Krishna created an illusion of darkness by covering the sun. Thinking the sun had set, Jayadratha came out fearlessly. 7.200 Ashwatthama, angered by the death of Drona, used the Narayana weapon against the enemy army. As the brilliance of the weapon tormented them, Krishna advised them to protect themselves by descending from their vehicles and laying down their weapons. Bhima, however, continued to fight back with a single weapon, and the weapon blazed on his head.

7.202 When the Narayana weapon was rendered ineffective, Ashvatthama again used the Agneya weapon. As he departed, he accidentally met Vyasa and questioned him about the failure of his weapon. Vyasa explained that Krishna and Arjuna were the embodiments of Nara and Narayana. Understanding this, Drona's son withdrew the army.
