Pancharatra and Core: Both Duryodhana and Drona assure Saindhava of protection and prepare him for the next day's war.

(Having heard that great sound of the Pandavas eager for sons, informed by spies, Jayadratha rose there.)
Upon hearing the great noise made by the Pandavas, who were eager for their sons, Jayadratha, having been informed by spies, rose up there.
शोकसंमूढहृदयो दुःखेनाभिहतो भृशम्। मज्जमान इवागाधे विपुले शोकसागरे ॥७-५२-२॥
śokasaṁmūḍhahṛdayo duḥkhenābhihato bhṛśam। majjamāna ivāgādhe vipule śokasāgare ॥7-52-2॥
[शोक (śoka) - grief; संमूढ (saṁmūḍha) - confused; हृदयः (hṛdayaḥ) - heart; दुःखेन (duḥkhena) - by sorrow; अभिहतः (abhihataḥ) - struck; भृशम् (bhṛśam) - greatly; मज्जमानः (majjamānaḥ) - sinking; इव (iva) - as if; अगाधे (agādhe) - in the unfathomable; विपुले (vipule) - vast; शोकसागरे (śokasāgare) - in the ocean of grief;]
(His heart, confused by grief, was greatly struck by sorrow, as if sinking in the vast, unfathomable ocean of grief.)

जगाम समितिं राज्ञां सैन्धवो विमृशन्बहु। स तेषां नरदेवानां सकाशे परिदेवयन् ॥७-५२-३॥
jagāma samitiṃ rājñāṃ saindhavo vimṛśanbahu। sa teṣāṃ naradevānāṃ sakāśe paridevayan ॥7-52-3॥

(The Sindhu prince went to the assembly of kings, considering much. He lamented in the presence of those kings.)

स निनीषति दुर्बुद्धिर्मां किलैकं यमक्षयम्। तत्स्वस्ति वोऽस्तु यास्यामि स्वगृहं जीवितेप्सया ॥७-५२-५॥
sa ninīṣati durbuddhirmāṃ kilaikaṃ yamakṣayam। tatsvasti vo'stu yāsyāmi svagṛhaṃ jīvitepsayā ॥7-52-5॥
[स (sa) - he; निनीषति (ninīṣati) - desires to take; दुर्बुद्धिः (durbuddhiḥ) - evil-minded; माम् (mām) - me; किल (kila) - indeed; एकम् (ekam) - alone; यमक्षयम् (yamakṣayam) - to the abode of Yama; तत् (tat) - therefore; स्वस्ति (svasti) - welfare; वः (vaḥ) - to you; अस्तु (astu) - be; यास्यामि (yāsyāmi) - I shall go; स्वगृहम् (svagṛham) - to my home; जीवितेप्सया (jīvitepsayā) - with the desire to live;]
(He, the evil-minded, indeed desires to take me alone to the abode of Yama. Therefore, welfare be to you; I shall go to my home with the desire to live.)
The evil-minded one indeed wishes to take me alone to the abode of Yama. Therefore, may welfare be to you all; I shall return to my home with the hope of preserving my life.
अथ वा स्थ प्रतिबलास्त्रातुं मां क्षत्रियर्षभाः। पार्थेन प्रार्थितं वीरास्ते ददन्तु ममाभयम् ॥७-५२-६॥
atha vā stha pratibalāstrātuṃ māṃ kṣatriyarṣabhāḥ। pārthena prārthitaṃ vīrāste dadantu mamābhayam ॥7-52-6॥
[अथ (atha) - now; वा (vā) - or; स्थ (stha) - you are; प्रतिबलाः (pratibalāḥ) - equal in strength; त्रातुम् (trātum) - to protect; माम् (mām) - me; क्षत्रियर्षभाः (kṣatriyarṣabhāḥ) - O best of the warriors; पार्थेन (pārthena) - by Arjuna; प्रार्थितम् (prārthitam) - requested; वीराः (vīrāḥ) - heroes; ते (te) - they; ददन्तु (dadantu) - may give; मम (mama) - my; अभयम् (abhayam) - protection;]
(Now, or if you are equal in strength, O best of the warriors, may those heroes requested by Arjuna give me protection.)

द्रोणदुर्योधनकृपाः कर्णमद्रेशबाह्लिकाः। दुःशासनादयः शक्तास्त्रातुमप्यन्तकाद्रितम् ॥७-५२-७॥

[द्रोण (droṇa) - Drona; दुर्योधन (duryodhana) - Duryodhana; कृपाः (kṛpāḥ) - Kripa; कर्ण (karṇa) - Karna; मद्रेश (madreśa) - King of Madra; बाह्लिकाः (bāhlikāḥ) - Bahlika; दुःशासन (duḥśāsana) - Duhshasana; आदयः (ādayaḥ) - and others; शक्ताः (śaktāḥ) - capable; त्रातुम् (trātum) - to protect; अपि (api) - even; अन्तकात् (antakāt) - from death; ऋतम् (ṛtam) - truth.;]

[किम् (kim) - what; अङ्ग (aṅga) - indeed; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; एकेन (ekena) - by one; फल्गुनेन (phalgunena) - by Arjuna; जिघांसता (jighāṁsatā) - desiring to kill; न (na) - not; त्रायेयुः (trāyeyuḥ) - would protect; भवन्तः (bhavantaḥ) - you all; माम् (mām) - me; समस्ताः (samastāḥ) - all; पतयः (patayaḥ) - lords; क्षितेः (kṣiteḥ) - of the earth;]
(What indeed, again, by one Arjuna desiring to kill, would you all not protect me, all lords of the earth?)
What indeed, if Arjuna alone desires to kill, would you all, the lords of the earth, not protect me?
प्रहर्षं पाण्डवेयानां श्रुत्वा मम महद्भयम्। सीदन्तीव च मेऽङ्गानि मुमूर्षोरिव पार्थिवाः ॥७-५२-९॥
praharṣaṃ pāṇḍaveyānāṃ śrutvā mama mahadbhayam। sīdantīva ca me'ṅgāni mumūrṣoriva pārthivāḥ ॥7-52-9॥
[प्रहर्षम् (praharṣam) - joy; पाण्डवेयानाम् (pāṇḍaveyānām) - of the sons of Pandu; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; मम (mama) - my; महद्भयम् (mahadbhayam) - great fear; सीदन्ति (sīdanti) - are sinking; इव (iva) - as if; च (ca) - and; मे (me) - my; अङ्गानि (aṅgāni) - limbs; मुमूर्षोः (mumūrṣoḥ) - of one desiring to die; इव (iva) - like; पार्थिवाः (pārthivāḥ) - kings;]
(Hearing the joy of the sons of Pandu, my great fear (arose). My limbs are sinking as if of one desiring to die, like kings.)
Upon hearing the joy of the Pandavas, I felt immense fear. My limbs seem to be sinking as if I were a dying king.
वधो नूनं प्रतिज्ञातो मम गाण्डीवधन्वना। तथा हि हृष्टाः क्रोशन्ति शोककालेऽपि पाण्डवाः ॥७-५२-१०॥
vadho nūnaṃ pratijñāto mama gāṇḍīvadhanvanā। tathā hi hṛṣṭāḥ krośanti śokakāle'pi pāṇḍavāḥ ॥7-52-10॥
[वधः (vadhaḥ) - killing; नूनम् (nūnam) - indeed; प्रतिज्ञातः (pratijñātaḥ) - promised; मम (mama) - my; गाण्डीवधन्वना (gāṇḍīvadhanvanā) - by the wielder of the Gandiva bow; तथा (tathā) - thus; हि (hi) - certainly; हृष्टाः (hṛṣṭāḥ) - joyful; क्रोशन्ति (krośanti) - are shouting; शोककाले (śokakāle) - in the time of grief; अपि (api) - even; पाण्डवाः (pāṇḍavāḥ) - the Pandavas;]
(The killing is indeed promised by my wielder of the Gandiva bow. Thus, certainly, the joyful Pandavas are shouting even in the time of grief.)
The Pandavas, confident in the promise made by the wielder of the Gandiva bow, are expressing their joy even during this time of sorrow.
न देवा न च गन्धर्वा नासुरोरगराक्षसाः। उत्सहन्तेऽन्यथा कर्तुं कुत एव नराधिपाः ॥७-५२-११॥
na devā na ca gandharvā nāsuroragarākṣasāḥ। utsahante'nyathā kartuṃ kuta eva narādhipāḥ ॥7-52-11॥
[न (na) - not; देवाः (devāḥ) - gods; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; गन्धर्वाः (gandharvāḥ) - celestial beings; न (na) - not; असुर (asura) - demons; उरग (uraga) - serpents; राक्षसाः (rākṣasāḥ) - ogres; उत्सहन्ते (utsahante) - are able; अन्यथा (anyathā) - otherwise; कर्तुम् (kartum) - to do; कुतः (kutaḥ) - how; एव (eva) - indeed; नराधिपाः (narādhipāḥ) - kings;]
(Neither gods nor celestial beings, nor demons, serpents, or ogres are able to act otherwise; how indeed can kings?)

तस्मान्मामनुजानीत भद्रं वोऽस्तु नरर्षभाः। अदर्शनं गमिष्यामि न मां द्रक्ष्यन्ति पाण्डवाः ॥७-५२-१२॥
tasmān māmanujānīta bhadraṃ vo'stu nararṣabhāḥ। adarśanaṃ gamiṣyāmi na māṃ drakṣyanti pāṇḍavāḥ ॥7-52-12॥
[तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; माम् (mām) - me; अनुजानीत (anujānīta) - permit; भद्रम् (bhadram) - welfare; वः (vaḥ) - your; अस्तु (astu) - be; नरर्षभाः (nararṣabhāḥ) - O best among men; अदर्शनम् (adarśanam) - invisibility; गमिष्यामि (gamiṣyāmi) - I shall go; न (na) - not; माम् (mām) - me; द्रक्ष्यन्ति (drakṣyanti) - will see; पाण्डवाः (pāṇḍavāḥ) - the Pandavas;]
(Therefore, permit me; may your welfare be, O best among men. I shall go into invisibility; the Pandavas will not see me.)
Therefore, O best among men, permit me to leave. May your welfare be ensured. I shall become invisible, and the Pandavas will not see me.
एवं विलपमानं तं भयाद्व्याकुलचेतसम्। आत्मकार्यगरीयस्त्वाद्राजा दुर्योधनोऽब्रवीत् ॥७-५२-१३॥
evaṁ vilapamānaṁ taṁ bhayādvyākulacetasam। ātmakāryagarīyastvādrājā duryodhano'bravīt ॥7-52-13॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; विलपमानम् (vilapamānam) - lamenting; तम् (tam) - him; भयात् (bhayāt) - out of fear; व्याकुल (vyākula) - distressed; चेतसम् (cetasam) - mind; आत्म (ātma) - self; कार्य (kārya) - duty; गरीयस्त्वात् (garīyastvāt) - due to the importance; राजा (rājā) - king; दुर्योधनः (duryodhanaḥ) - Duryodhana; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said;]
(Thus, lamenting him with a mind distressed out of fear, King Duryodhana spoke due to the importance of self-duty.)

न भेतव्यं नरव्याघ्र को हि त्वा पुरुषर्षभ। मध्ये क्षत्रियवीराणां तिष्ठन्तं प्रार्थयेद्युधि ॥७-५२-१४॥
na bhetavyaṁ naravyāghra ko hi tvā puruṣarṣabha। madhye kṣatriyavīrāṇāṁ tiṣṭhantaṁ prārthayed yudhi ॥7-52-14॥
[न (na) - not; भेतव्यम् (bhetavyam) - to be feared; नरव्याघ्र (naravyāghra) - O tiger among men; कः (kaḥ) - who; हि (hi) - indeed; त्वा (tvā) - you; पुरुषर्षभ (puruṣarṣabha) - O bull among men; मध्ये (madhye) - among; क्षत्रियवीराणाम् (kṣatriyavīrāṇām) - warrior kshatriyas; तिष्ठन्तम् (tiṣṭhantam) - standing; प्रार्थयेत् (prārthayet) - would challenge; युधि (yudhi) - in battle;]
(Not to be feared, O tiger among men, who indeed would challenge you, O bull among men, standing among warrior kshatriyas in battle.)
"Do not be afraid, O tiger among men, for who would dare challenge you, O bull among men, as you stand among the warrior kshatriyas in battle?"
अहं वैकर्तनः कर्णश्चित्रसेनो विविंशतिः। भूरिश्रवाः शलः शल्यो वृषसेनो दुरासदः ॥७-५२-१५॥
ahaṁ vaikartanaḥ karṇaścitraseno viviṁśatiḥ। bhūriśravāḥ śalaḥ śalyo vṛṣaseno durāsadaḥ ॥7-52-15॥

पुरुमित्रो जयो भोजः काम्बोजश्च सुदक्षिणः। सत्यव्रतो महाबाहुर्विकर्णो दुर्मुखः सहः ॥७-५२-१६॥

त्वं चापि रथिनां श्रेष्ठः स्वयं शूरोऽमितद्युतिः। स कथं पाण्डवेयेभ्यो भयं पश्यसि सैन्धव ॥७-५२-१८॥
tvaṁ cāpi rathināṁ śreṣṭhaḥ svayaṁ śūro'mitadyutiḥ। sa kathaṁ pāṇḍaveyebhyo bhayaṁ paśyasi saindhava ॥7-52-18॥
[त्वम् (tvam) - you; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; रथिनाम् (rathinām) - of charioteers; श्रेष्ठः (śreṣṭhaḥ) - the best; स्वयम् (svayam) - yourself; शूरः (śūraḥ) - heroic; अमितद्युतिः (amitadyutiḥ) - of immeasurable splendor; सः (saḥ) - he; कथम् (katham) - how; पाण्डवेयेभ्यः (pāṇḍaveyebhyaḥ) - from the sons of Pandu; भयम् (bhayam) - fear; पश्यसि (paśyasi) - you see; सैन्धव (saindhava) - O Saindhava;]
(You also, the best of charioteers, yourself heroic and of immeasurable splendor, how do you see fear from the sons of Pandu, O Saindhava?)
You, who are the best among charioteers, heroic and of immeasurable splendor, how can you, O Saindhava, perceive fear from the Pandavas?
अक्षौहिण्यो दशैका च मदीयास्तव रक्षणे। यत्ता योत्स्यन्ति मा भैस्त्वं सैन्धव व्येतु ते भयम् ॥७-५२-१९॥
akṣauhiṇyo daśaikā ca madīyāstava rakṣaṇe। yattā yotsyanti mā bhaistvaṃ saindhava vyetu te bhayam ॥7-52-19॥
[अक्षौहिण्यः (akṣauhiṇyaḥ) - armies; दश (daśa) - ten; एक (eka) - one; च (ca) - and; मदीयाः (madīyāḥ) - my; तव (tava) - your; रक्षणे (rakṣaṇe) - in protection; यत्ताः (yattāḥ) - prepared; योत्स्यन्ति (yotsyanti) - will fight; मा (mā) - do not; भैः (bhais) - fear; त्वम् (tvam) - you; सैन्धव (saindhava) - O Saindhava; व्येतु (vyetu) - let be gone; ते (te) - your; भयम् (bhayam) - fear;]
(Ten and one armies of mine will fight for your protection. Do not fear, O Saindhava, let your fear be gone.)
My eleven armies are prepared to fight for your protection. Do not fear, O Saindhava, let your fear be dispelled.
एवमाश्वासितो राजन्पुत्रेण तव सैन्धवः। दुर्योधनेन सहितो द्रोणं रात्रावुपागमत् ॥७-५२-२०॥
evam āśvāsito rājanputreṇa tava saindhavaḥ। duryodhanena sahito droṇaṃ rātrāvupāgamat ॥7-52-20॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; आश्वासितः (āśvāsitaḥ) - consoled; राजन् (rājan) - O king; पुत्रेण (putreṇa) - by the son; तव (tava) - your; सैन्धवः (saindhavaḥ) - Saindhava; दुर्योधनेन (duryodhanena) - by Duryodhana; सहितः (sahitaḥ) - accompanied; द्रोणम् (droṇam) - Drona; रात्रौ (rātrau) - at night; उपागमत् (upāgamat) - approached;]
(Thus consoled by your son, O king, Saindhava, accompanied by Duryodhana, approached Drona at night.)
Thus reassured by your son, O king, Saindhava, along with Duryodhana, went to meet Drona during the night.
उपसङ्ग्रहणं कृत्वा द्रोणाय स विशां पते। उपोपविश्य प्रणतः पर्यपृच्छदिदं तदा ॥७-५२-२१॥

(Having approached and done homage to Droṇa, he, the lord of men, sat down near, bowed, and then asked this.)
After approaching and paying respects to Droṇa, he, the lord of men, sat down nearby, bowed, and then inquired about this.
निमित्ते दूरपातित्वे लघुत्वे दृढवेधने। मम ब्रवीतु भगवान्विशेषं फल्गुनस्य च ॥७-५२-२२॥
nimitte dūrapātitve laghutve dṛḍhavedhane। mama bravītu bhagavānviśeṣaṃ phalgunasya ca ॥7-52-22॥
[निमित्ते (nimitte) - in the cause; दूरपातित्वे (dūrapātitve) - in long-distance striking; लघुत्वे (laghutve) - in lightness; दृढवेधने (dṛḍhavedhane) - in firm piercing; मम (mama) - my; ब्रवीतु (bravītu) - may tell; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the revered one; विशेषं (viśeṣaṃ) - the distinction; फल्गुनस्य (phalgunasya) - of Arjuna; च (ca) - and;]
(In the cause, in long-distance striking, in lightness, in firm piercing, may the revered one tell my distinction and of Arjuna.)
May the revered one explain the unique qualities of myself and Arjuna in terms of cause, long-distance striking, lightness, and firm piercing.
विद्याविशेषमिच्छामि ज्ञातुमाचार्य तत्त्वतः। ममार्जुनस्य च विभो यथातत्त्वं प्रचक्ष्व मे ॥७-५२-२३॥
vidyāviśeṣamicchāmi jñātumācārya tattvataḥ। mamārjunasya ca vibho yathātattvaṃ pracakṣva me ॥7-52-23॥
[विद्या (vidyā) - knowledge; विशेषम् (viśeṣam) - specific; इच्छामि (icchāmi) - I desire; ज्ञातुम् (jñātum) - to know; आचार्य (ācārya) - O teacher; तत्त्वतः (tattvataḥ) - truly; मम (mama) - my; अर्जुनस्य (arjunasya) - of Arjuna; च (ca) - and; विभो (vibho) - O lord; यथातत्त्वम् (yathātattvam) - as it is; प्रचक्ष्व (pracakṣva) - explain; मे (me) - to me;]
(I desire to know the specific knowledge truly, O teacher. O lord, explain to me as it is, of my Arjuna.)
I wish to truly understand the specific knowledge, O teacher. O lord, please explain to me the true nature concerning my Arjuna.

सममाचार्यकं तात तव चैवार्जुनस्य च। योगाद्दुःखोचितत्वाच्च तस्मात्त्वत्तोऽधिकोऽर्जुनः ॥७-५२-२४॥
samamācāryakaṃ tāta tava caivārjunasya ca। yogādduḥkhocitatvācca tasmāttvatto'dhiko'rjunaḥ ॥7-52-24॥
[सममाचार्यकं (samamācāryakaṃ) - equally instructed; तात (tāta) - O father; तव (tava) - your; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; अर्जुनस्य (arjunasya) - of Arjuna; च (ca) - and; योगात् (yogāt) - due to practice; दुःखोचितत्वात् (duḥkhocitatvāt) - from the appropriateness of suffering; च (ca) - and; तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; त्वत्तः (tvattaḥ) - than you; अधिकः (adhikaḥ) - greater; अर्जुनः (arjunaḥ) - Arjuna;]
(Equally instructed, O father, are you and Arjuna. Due to practice and the appropriateness of suffering, therefore, Arjuna is greater than you.)
O father, both you and Arjuna have been equally instructed. However, due to his practice and the appropriateness of suffering, Arjuna has become greater than you.
न तु ते युधि सन्त्रासः कार्यः पार्थात्कथञ्चन। अहं हि रक्षिता तात भयात्त्वां नात्र संशयः ॥७-५२-२५॥
na tu te yudhi santrāsaḥ kāryaḥ pārthātkathañcana। ahaṃ hi rakṣitā tāta bhayāttvāṃ nātra saṃśayaḥ ॥7-52-25॥
[न (na) - not; तु (tu) - but; ते (te) - your; युधि (yudhi) - in battle; सन्त्रासः (santrāsaḥ) - fear; कार्यः (kāryaḥ) - should be; पार्थात् (pārthāt) - from Arjuna; कथञ्चन (kathañcana) - in any way; अहम् (aham) - I; हि (hi) - indeed; रक्षिता (rakṣitā) - protector; तात (tāta) - dear; भयात् (bhayāt) - from fear; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; न (na) - not; अत्र (atra) - here; संशयः (saṃśayaḥ) - doubt;]
(But your fear in battle from Arjuna should not be in any way. I am indeed the protector, dear, from fear you not here doubt.)
"Do not fear Arjuna in battle, for I am your protector, dear one. There is no doubt about it."
न हि मद्बाहुगुप्तस्य प्रभवन्त्यमरा अपि। व्यूहिष्यामि च तं व्यूहं यं पार्थो न तरिष्यति ॥७-५२-२६॥
na hi madbāhuguptasya prabhavantyamarā api। vyūhiṣyāmi ca taṃ vyūhaṃ yaṃ pārtho na tariṣyati ॥7-52-26॥
[न (na) - not; हि (hi) - indeed; मद्बाहुगुप्तस्य (madbāhuguptasya) - protected by my arms; प्रभवन्ति (prabhavanti) - are capable; अमरा (amarā) - the immortals; अपि (api) - even; व्यूहिष्यामि (vyūhiṣyāmi) - I will arrange; च (ca) - and; तं (taṃ) - that; व्यूहं (vyūhaṃ) - formation; यं (yaṃ) - which; पार्थः (pārthaḥ) - Arjuna; न (na) - not; तरिष्यति (tariṣyati) - will cross;]
(Indeed, even the immortals are not capable of overcoming the one protected by my arms. I will arrange that formation which Arjuna will not cross.)
Even the gods cannot overcome the one protected by my arms. I will arrange a formation that Arjuna cannot penetrate.
तस्माद्युध्यस्व मा भैस्त्वं स्वधर्ममनुपालय। पितृपैतामहं मार्गमनुयाहि नराधिप ॥७-५२-२७॥
tasmādyudhyasva mā bhaistvaṃ svadharmamanu pālaya। pitṛpaitāmahaṃ mārgam anuyāhi narādhipa ॥7-52-27॥
[तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; युध्यस्व (yudhyasva) - fight; मा (mā) - do not; भैः (bhais) - fear; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; स्वधर्मम् (svadharmam) - own duty; अनुपालय (anupālaya) - follow; पितृपैतामहम् (pitṛpaitāmaham) - ancestral; मार्गम् (mārgam) - path; अनुयाहि (anuyāhi) - follow; नराधिप (narādhipa) - O king;]
(Therefore, fight; do not fear; you follow your own duty. Follow the ancestral path, O king.)
Therefore, O king, do not fear and engage in battle. Uphold your duty and follow the path of your ancestors.
अधीत्य विधिवद्वेदानग्नयः सुहुतास्त्वया। इष्टं च बहुभिर्यज्ञैर्न ते मृत्युभयाद्भयम् ॥७-५२-२८॥
adhītya vidhivadvedānagnayaḥ suhutāstvayā। iṣṭaṃ ca bahubhiryañjñairna te mṛtyubhayādbhayam ॥7-52-28॥
[अधीत्य (adhītya) - having studied; विधिवत् (vidhivat) - properly; वेदान् (vedān) - the Vedas; अग्नयः (agnayaḥ) - fires; सुहुताः (suhutāḥ) - well-offered; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; इष्टं (iṣṭaṃ) - worshipped; च (ca) - and; बहुभिः (bahubhiḥ) - by many; यज्ञैः (yañjñaiḥ) - sacrifices; न (na) - not; ते (te) - your; मृत्युभयात् (mṛtyubhayāt) - from fear of death; भयम् (bhayam) - fear;]
(Having studied the Vedas properly, the fires have been well-offered by you. Worshipped with many sacrifices, there is no fear for you from the fear of death.)
Having properly studied the Vedas and offered sacrifices, you have worshipped the fires well. Therefore, you have no fear from the fear of death.
दुर्लभं मानुषैर्मन्दैर्महाभाग्यमवाप्य तु। भुजवीर्यार्जिताँल्लोकान्दिव्यान्प्राप्स्यस्यनुत्तमान् ॥७-५२-२९॥
durlabhaṁ mānuṣairmandairmahābhāgyamavāpya tu। bhujavīryārjitām̐llokāndivyānprāpsyasyanuttamān ॥7-52-29॥
[दुर्लभम् (durlabham) - difficult to obtain; मानुषैः (mānuṣaiḥ) - by humans; मन्दैः (mandaiḥ) - by the slow-witted; महाभाग्यम् (mahābhāgyam) - great fortune; अवाप्य (avāpya) - having obtained; तु (tu) - but; भुजवीर्य (bhujavīrya) - by the strength of arms; अर्जितान् (arjitān) - acquired; लोकान् (lokān) - worlds; दिव्यान् (divyān) - divine; प्राप्स्यसि (prāpsyasi) - you will attain; अनुत्तमान् (anuttamān) - unsurpassed;]
(Difficult to obtain by humans and the slow-witted, having obtained great fortune, but by the strength of arms, you will attain the divine, unsurpassed worlds.)
Though great fortune is difficult to obtain by the slow-witted humans, by the strength of your arms, you will attain the unsurpassed divine worlds.
कुरवः पाण्डवाश्चैव वृष्णयोऽन्ये च मानवाः। अहं च सह पुत्रेण अध्रुवा इति चिन्त्यताम् ॥७-५२-३०॥
kuravaḥ pāṇḍavāścaiva vṛṣṇayo'nye ca mānavāḥ। ahaṃ ca saha putreṇa adhruvā iti cintyatām ॥7-52-30॥
[कुरवः (kuravaḥ) - Kurus; पाण्डवाः (pāṇḍavāḥ) - Pāṇḍavas; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; वृष्णयः (vṛṣṇayaḥ) - Vṛṣṇis; अन्ये (anye) - others; च (ca) - and; मानवाः (mānavāḥ) - humans; अहम् (aham) - I; च (ca) - and; सह (saha) - with; पुत्रेण (putreṇa) - son; अध्रुवा (adhruvā) - impermanent; इति (iti) - thus; चिन्त्यताम् (cintyatām) - should be considered;]
(The Kurus, the Pāṇḍavas, indeed the Vṛṣṇis, and other humans; I and my son are impermanent, thus should be considered.)
The Kurus, Pāṇḍavas, Vṛṣṇis, and other humans, including myself and my son, should be considered as impermanent. This is a reflection on the transient nature of life.
पर्यायेण वयं सर्वे कालेन बलिना हताः। परलोकं गमिष्यामः स्वैः स्वैः कर्मभिरन्विताः ॥७-५२-३१॥
paryāyeṇa vayaṃ sarve kālena balinā hatāḥ। paralokaṃ gamiṣyāmaḥ svaiḥ svaiḥ karmabhiranvitāḥ ॥7-52-31॥
[पर्यायेण (paryāyeṇa) - in turn; वयम् (vayam) - we; सर्वे (sarve) - all; कालेन (kālena) - by time; बलिना (balinā) - by the powerful; हताः (hatāḥ) - killed; परलोकम् (paralokam) - to the other world; गमिष्यामः (gamiṣyāmaḥ) - shall go; स्वैः (svaiḥ) - by own; स्वैः (svaiḥ) - own; कर्मभिः (karmabhiḥ) - by actions; अन्विताः (anvitāḥ) - endowed;]
(In turn, we all are killed by time, the powerful one. We shall go to the other world, endowed with our own actions.)
In due course, we all are overpowered by time and shall proceed to the other world, each accompanied by our own deeds.
तपस्तप्त्वा तु याँल्लोकान्प्राप्नुवन्ति तपस्विनः। क्षत्रधर्माश्रिताः शूराः क्षत्रियाः प्राप्नुवन्ति तान् ॥७-५२-३२॥
tapastaptvā tu yāṁllokānprāpnuvanti tapasvinaḥ। kṣatradharmāśritāḥ śūrāḥ kṣatriyāḥ prāpnuvanti tān ॥7-52-32॥
[तपः (tapaḥ) - austerity; तप्त्वा (taptvā) - having performed; तु (tu) - but; यांश्च (yāṁśca) - which; लोकान् (lokān) - worlds; प्राप्नुवन्ति (prāpnuvanti) - attain; तपस्विनः (tapasvinaḥ) - ascetics; क्षत्रधर्माश्रिताः (kṣatradharmāśritāḥ) - those who follow the warrior's duty; शूराः (śūrāḥ) - heroes; क्षत्रियाः (kṣatriyāḥ) - warriors; प्राप्नुवन्ति (prāpnuvanti) - attain; तान् (tān) - those;]
(But the worlds which ascetics attain by performing austerity, those are attained by the heroes and warriors who follow the warrior's duty.)
The worlds attained by ascetics through austerity are also reached by brave warriors who adhere to their warrior duties.
सञ्जय उवाच॥

एवमाश्वासितो राजन्भारद्वाजेन सैन्धवः। अपानुदद्भयं पार्थाद्युद्धाय च मनो दधे ॥७-५२-३३॥
evam āśvāsito rājanbhāradvājena saindhavaḥ। apānudadbhayaṃ pārthādyuddhāya ca mano dadhe ॥7-52-33॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; आश्वासितः (āśvāsitaḥ) - encouraged; राजन् (rājan) - O king; भारद्वाजेन (bhāradvājena) - by Bharadvaja; सैन्धवः (saindhavaḥ) - Saindhava; अपानुदत् (apānudat) - dispelled; भयम् (bhayam) - fear; पार्थात् (pārthāt) - from Partha; युद्धाय (yuddhāya) - for battle; च (ca) - and; मनः (manaḥ) - mind; दधे (dadhe) - set;]
(Thus encouraged, O king, by Bharadvaja, Saindhava dispelled fear from Partha and set his mind for battle.)
Encouraged by Bharadvaja, Saindhava overcame his fear of Partha and prepared himself for the battle.
