Dhritarashtra spoke:
तथा गतेषु शूरेषु तेषां मम च सञ्जय। किं वै भीमस्तदाकार्षीत्तन्ममाचक्ष्व सञ्जय ॥७-१२३-१॥
tathā gateṣu śūreṣu teṣāṃ mama ca sañjaya। kiṃ vai bhīmastadākārṣīttanmamācakṣva sañjaya ॥7-123-1॥
[तथा (tathā) - thus; गतेषु (gateṣu) - having gone; शूरेषु (śūreṣu) - heroes; तेषां (teṣāṃ) - their; मम (mama) - my; च (ca) - and; सञ्जय (sañjaya) - Sanjaya; किं (kiṃ) - what; वै (vai) - indeed; भीमः (bhīmaḥ) - Bhima; तत् (tad) - that; आकार्षीत् (ākārṣīt) - did; तत् (tan) - that; मम (mama) - to me; आचक्ष्व (ācakṣva) - tell; सञ्जय (sañjaya) - Sanjaya;]
(Thus, having gone, the heroes, their and my Sanjaya, what indeed did Bhima do? Tell that to me, Sanjaya.)
Thus, when the heroes had departed, tell me, Sanjaya, what exactly did Bhima do?

विरथो भीमसेनो वै कर्णवाक्षल्यपीडितः। अमर्षवशमापन्नः फल्गुनं वाक्यमब्रवीत् ॥७-१२३-२॥
viratho bhīmaseno vai karṇavākṣalyapīḍitaḥ। amarṣavaśamāpannaḥ phalgunaṃ vākyamabravīt ॥7-123-2॥
[विरथः (virathaḥ) - without chariot; भीमसेनः (bhīmasenaḥ) - Bhimasena; वै (vai) - indeed; कर्ण (karṇa) - Karna; वाक्षल्य (vākṣalya) - harsh words; पीडितः (pīḍitaḥ) - afflicted; अमर्ष (amarṣa) - anger; वशम् (vaśam) - control; आपन्नः (āpannaḥ) - fallen into; फल्गुनम् (phalgunaṃ) - to Arjuna; वाक्यम् (vākyam) - words; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke;]
(Bhimasena, indeed without a chariot, afflicted by Karna's harsh words, fallen into the control of anger, spoke words to Arjuna.)
Bhimasena, having lost his chariot and being tormented by Karna's harsh words, succumbed to anger and addressed Arjuna.
पुनः पुनस्तूबरक मूढ औदरिकेति च। अकृतास्त्रक मा योधीर्बाल सङ्ग्रामकातर ॥७-१२३-३॥
punaḥ punastūbaraka mūḍha audariketi ca। akṛtāstraka mā yodhīrbāla saṅgrāmakātara ॥7-123-3॥
[पुनः (punaḥ) - again; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; तूबरक (tūbaraka) - foolish boy; मूढ (mūḍha) - ignorant; औदरिकेति (audariketi) - gluttonous; च (ca) - and; अकृतास्त्रक (akṛtāstraka) - unskilled in weapons; मा (mā) - do not; योधीर् (yodhīr) - fight; बाल (bāla) - child; सङ्ग्रामकातर (saṅgrāmakātara) - afraid of battle;]
(Again and again, foolish boy, ignorant, gluttonous, and unskilled in weapons, do not fight, child afraid of battle.)
"Again and again, O foolish boy, ignorant and gluttonous, do not engage in battle, for you are unskilled in weapons and afraid of the fight."
इति मामब्रवीत्कर्णः पश्यतस्ते धनञ्जय। एवं वक्ता च मे वध्यस्तेन चोक्तोऽस्मि भारत ॥७-१२३-४॥
iti mām abravīt karṇaḥ paśyataḥ te dhanañjaya। evaṃ vaktā ca me vadhyas tena cokto'smi bhārata ॥7-123-4॥
[इति (iti) - thus; माम् (mām) - me; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; कर्णः (karṇaḥ) - Karna; पश्यतः (paśyataḥ) - while watching; ते (te) - your; धनञ्जय (dhanañjaya) - Dhananjaya; एवं (evaṃ) - thus; वक्ता (vaktā) - speaker; च (ca) - and; मे (me) - my; वध्यः (vadhyaḥ) - to be killed; तेन (tena) - by him; च (ca) - and; उक्तः (uktaḥ) - told; अस्मि (asmi) - am; भारत (bhārata) - O Bharata;]
(Thus Karna said to me while you were watching, O Dhananjaya. Thus, the speaker and my killer, I was told by him, O Bharata.)
Karna said to me in your presence, O Dhananjaya, that I am to be killed by him, O Bharata.
एतद्व्रतं महाबाहो त्वया सह कृतं मया। यथैतन्मम कौन्तेय तथा तव न संशयः ॥७-१२३-५॥
etadvrataṁ mahābāho tvayā saha kṛtaṁ mayā। yathaitan mama kaunteya tathā tava na sanśayaḥ ॥7-123-5॥
[एतत् (etat) - this; व्रतम् (vratam) - vow; महाबाहो (mahābāho) - O mighty-armed; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; सह (saha) - with; कृतम् (kṛtam) - done; मया (mayā) - by me; यथा (yathā) - as; एतत् (etat) - this; मम (mama) - my; कौन्तेय (kaunteya) - O son of Kunti; तथा (tathā) - so; तव (tava) - your; न (na) - no; संशयः (sanśayaḥ) - doubt;]
(This vow, O mighty-armed, was undertaken by you with me. As this is mine, O son of Kunti, so it is yours, without a doubt.)
O mighty-armed one, this vow was undertaken by you along with me. Just as it is mine, O son of Kunti, it is also yours, without any doubt.
तद्वधाय नरश्रेष्ठ स्मरैतद्वचनं मम। यथा भवति तत्सत्यं तथा कुरु धनञ्जय ॥७-१२३-६॥
tadvadhāya naraśreṣṭha smaraitadvacanaṃ mama। yathā bhavati tatsatyaṃ tathā kuru dhanañjaya ॥7-123-6॥
[तद्वधाय (tadvadhāya) - for his killing; नरश्रेष्ठ (naraśreṣṭha) - O best of men; स्मर (smara) - remember; एतद्वचनं (etadvacanaṃ) - this word; मम (mama) - my; यथा (yathā) - as; भवति (bhavati) - it happens; तत्सत्यं (tatsatyaṃ) - that truth; तथा (tathā) - so; कुरु (kuru) - do; धनञ्जय (dhanañjaya) - O Dhananjaya;]
(For his killing, O best of men, remember this word of mine. As it happens, that truth, so do, O Dhananjaya.)
"O best of men, remember my words for his killing. Ensure that what happens is the truth, so act accordingly, O Dhananjaya."
तच्छ्रुत्वा वचनं तस्य भीमस्यामितविक्रमः। ततोऽर्जुनोऽब्रवीत्कर्णं किञ्चिदभ्येत्य संयुगे ॥७-१२३-७॥
tacchrutvā vacanaṃ tasya bhīmāsyāmitavikramaḥ। tato'rjuno'bravīt karṇaṃ kiñcidabhyetya saṃyuge ॥7-123-7॥
[तत् (tat) - that; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; वचनम् (vacanam) - words; तस्य (tasya) - his; भीमस्य (bhīmasya) - of Bhima; अमितविक्रमः (amitavikramaḥ) - of immeasurable valor; ततः (tataḥ) - then; अर्जुनः (arjunaḥ) - Arjuna; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; कर्णम् (karṇam) - to Karna; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - a little; अभ्येत्य (abhyetya) - approaching; संयुगे (saṃyuge) - in the battle;]
(Having heard those words of Bhima of immeasurable valor, then Arjuna said to Karna, approaching a little in the battle.)
Upon hearing the words of the immensely valiant Bhima, Arjuna approached Karna slightly in the battle and spoke to him.
कर्ण कर्ण वृथादृष्टे सूतपुत्रात्मसंस्तुत। अधर्मबुद्धे शृणु मे यत्त्वा वक्ष्यामि साम्प्रतम् ॥७-१२३-८॥
karṇa karṇa vṛthādṛṣṭe sūtaputrātmasaṁstuta। adharmabuddhe śṛṇu me yattvā vakṣyāmi sāmpratam ॥7-123-8॥
[कर्ण (karṇa) - Karna; कर्ण (karṇa) - Karna; वृथादृष्टे (vṛthādṛṣṭe) - vainly-seen; सूतपुत्रात्मसंस्तुत (sūtaputrātmasaṁstuta) - self-praised son of a charioteer; अधर्मबुद्धे (adharmabuddhe) - wicked-minded; शृणु (śṛṇu) - listen; मे (me) - my; यत् (yat) - what; त्वा (tvā) - to you; वक्ष्यामि (vakṣyāmi) - I will say; साम्प्रतम् (sāmpratam) - now;]
(Karna, Karna, vainly-seen, self-praised son of a charioteer, wicked-minded, listen to what I will say to you now.)
"Karna, Karna, you who are vainly proud and self-praised as the son of a charioteer, with a wicked mind, listen to what I have to say to you now."
द्विविधं कर्म शूराणां युद्धे जयपराजयौ। तौ चाप्यनित्यौ राधेय वासवस्यापि युध्यतः ॥७-१२३-९॥
dvividham karma śūrāṇāṃ yuddhe jayaparājayau। tau cāpyanityau rādheya vāsavasyāpi yudhyataḥ ॥7-123-9॥
[द्विविधं (dvividham) - twofold; कर्म (karma) - action; शूराणां (śūrāṇāṃ) - of heroes; युद्धे (yuddhe) - in battle; जयपराजयौ (jayaparājayau) - victory and defeat; तौ (tau) - those two; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; अनित्यौ (anityau) - impermanent; राधेय (rādheya) - O son of Radha; वासवस्य (vāsavasya) - of Indra; अपि (api) - even; युध्यतः (yudhyataḥ) - fighting;]
(The twofold actions of heroes in battle are victory and defeat. Those two are also impermanent, O son of Radha, even for Indra who fights.)
In battle, heroes face two outcomes: victory and defeat. These outcomes are impermanent, O son of Radha, even for the mighty Indra.
मुमूर्षुर्युयुधानेन विरथोऽसि विसर्जितः। यदृच्छया भीमसेनं विरथं कृतवानसि ॥७-१२३-१०॥
mumūrṣuryuyudhānena viratho'si visarjitaḥ। yadṛcchayā bhīmasenaṃ virathaṃ kṛtavānasi ॥7-123-10॥
[मुमूर्षुः (mumūrṣuḥ) - desiring to die; युयुधानेन (yuyudhānena) - by Yuyudhana; विरथः (virathaḥ) - without a chariot; असि (asi) - you are; विसर्जितः (visarjitaḥ) - abandoned; यदृच्छया (yadṛcchayā) - by chance; भीमसेनम् (bhīmasenam) - Bhimasena; विरथम् (viratham) - without a chariot; कृतवानसि (kṛtavānasi) - you have made;]
(Desiring to die, you are abandoned by Yuyudhana, being without a chariot. By chance, you have made Bhimasena without a chariot.)
In your desire to die, you have been left without a chariot by Yuyudhana. By chance, you have rendered Bhimasena chariotless.
अधर्मस्त्वेष राधेय यत्त्वं भीममवोचथाः। युद्धधर्मं विजानन्वै युध्यन्तमपलायिनम् ॥ पूरयन्तं यथाशक्ति शूरकर्माहवे तथा ॥७-१२३-११॥
adharmastveṣa rādheya yattvaṃ bhīmamavocathāḥ। yuddhadharmaṃ vijānanvai yudhyantamapālāyinam ॥ pūrayantaṃ yathāśakti śūrakarmāhave tathā ॥7-123-11॥
[अधर्मः (adharmaḥ) - unrighteousness; तू (tu) - but; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this; राधेय (rādheya) - O son of Radha; यत् (yat) - that; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; भीमम् (bhīmam) - Bhima; अवोचथाः (avocathāḥ) - spoke; युद्धधर्मम् (yuddhadharmam) - duty of war; विजानन् (vijānan) - knowing; वै (vai) - indeed; युध्यन्तम् (yudhyantam) - fighting; अपलायिनम् (apālāyinam) - not fleeing; पूरयन्तम् (pūrayantam) - fulfilling; यथा (yathā) - as; शक्ति (śakti) - ability; शूरकर्म (śūrakarma) - heroic deeds; अहवे (ahave) - in battle; तथा (tathā) - thus;]
(But this is unrighteousness, O son of Radha, that you spoke to Bhima, knowing the duty of war, to one who fights and does not flee, fulfilling heroic deeds in battle as per ability.)
O son of Radha, it is unrighteous that you spoke to Bhima in such a manner, knowing well the duty of a warrior, as he fights bravely in battle without fleeing, fulfilling his heroic duties to the best of his ability.
पश्यतां सर्वसैन्यानां केशवस्य ममैव च। विरथो भीमसेनेन कृतोऽसि बहुशो रणे ॥ न च त्वां परुषं किञ्चिदुक्तवान्पण्डुनन्दनः ॥७-१२३-१२॥
paśyatāṃ sarvasainyānāṃ keśavasya mamaiva ca। viratho bhīmasenena kṛto'si bahuśo raṇe ॥ na ca tvāṃ paruṣaṃ kiñciduktavānpaṇḍunandanaḥ ॥7-123-12॥
[पश्यतां (paśyatām) - of those who are watching; सर्वसैन्यानां (sarvasainyānāṃ) - of all armies; केशवस्य (keśavasya) - of Keshava; ममैव (mamaiva) - of mine indeed; च (ca) - and; विरथः (virathaḥ) - deprived of chariot; भीमसेनेन (bhīmasenena) - by Bhimasena; कृतः (kṛtaḥ) - made; असि (asi) - you are; बहुशः (bahuśaḥ) - many times; रणे (raṇe) - in battle; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; त्वां (tvāṃ) - you; परुषं (paruṣam) - harsh; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - anything; उक्तवान् (uktavān) - said; पण्डुनन्दनः (paṇḍunandanaḥ) - son of Pandu;]
(Of those who are watching, of all armies, of Keshava, of mine indeed, and; deprived of chariot by Bhimasena, you are made many times in battle. And the son of Pandu has not said anything harsh to you.)
In the presence of all the armies and Keshava, and even myself, you have been deprived of your chariot many times in battle by Bhimasena. Yet, the son of Pandu has not spoken any harsh words to you.
यस्मात्तु बहु रूक्षं च श्रावितस्ते वृकोदरः। परोक्षं यच्च सौभद्रो युष्माभिर्निहतो मम ॥७-१२३-१३॥
yasmāttu bahu rūkṣaṃ ca śrāvitas te vṛkodaraḥ। parokṣaṃ yacca saubhadro yuṣmābhir nihato mama ॥7-123-13॥
[यस्मात् (yasmāt) - because; तु (tu) - but; बहु (bahu) - much; रूक्षं (rūkṣam) - harsh; च (ca) - and; श्रावितः (śrāvitaḥ) - was told; ते (te) - to you; वृकोदरः (vṛkodaraḥ) - Vrikodara; परोक्षं (parokṣam) - indirectly; यत् (yat) - that; च (ca) - and; सौभद्रः (saubhadraḥ) - Saubhadra; युष्माभिः (yuṣmābhiḥ) - by you; निहतः (nihataḥ) - was killed; मम (mama) - my;]
(Because much harshness was told to you by Vrikodara, and indirectly, Saubhadra was killed by you, my.)
Because Vrikodara told you many harsh things, and indirectly, my Saubhadra was killed by you.
तस्मादस्यावलेपस्य सद्यः फलमवाप्नुहि। त्वया तस्य धनुश्छिन्नमात्मनाशाय दुर्मते ॥७-१२३-१४॥
tasmādasyaāvalepasya sadyaḥ phalamavāpnuhi। tvayā tasya dhanuśchinnamātmanāśāya durmate ॥7-123-14॥
[तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; अस्य (asya) - his; अवलेपस्य (avalepasya) - arrogance; सद्यः (sadyaḥ) - immediately; फलम् (phalam) - result; अवाप्नुहि (avāpnuhi) - obtain; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; तस्य (tasya) - his; धनुः (dhanuḥ) - bow; छिन्नम् (chinnam) - broken; आत्मनाशाय (ātmanāśāya) - for self-destruction; दुर्मते (durmate) - O wicked-minded one;]
(Therefore, immediately obtain the result of his arrogance. By you, his bow is broken for self-destruction, O wicked-minded one.)
Therefore, you will immediately face the consequences of his arrogance. You have broken his bow, leading to your own destruction, O wicked-minded one.
तस्माद्वध्योऽसि मे मूढ सभृत्यबलवाहनः। कुरु त्वं सर्वकृत्यानि महत्ते भयमागतम् ॥७-१२३-१५॥
tasmādvadhyo'si me mūḍha sabhṛtyabalavāhanaḥ। kuru tvaṃ sarvakṛtyāni mahatte bhayamāgatam ॥7-123-15॥
[तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; वध्यः (vadhyaḥ) - to be killed; असि (asi) - you are; मे (me) - my; मूढ (mūḍha) - fool; सभृत्यबलवाहनः (sabhṛtyabalavāhanaḥ) - with servants, strength, and vehicle; कुरु (kuru) - do; त्वम् (tvam) - you; सर्वकृत्यानि (sarvakṛtyāni) - all duties; महत् (mahat) - great; ते (te) - your; भयम् (bhayam) - fear; आगतम् (āgatam) - has come;]
(Therefore, you are to be killed, my fool, with servants, strength, and vehicle. Do all your duties, great fear has come to you.)
Therefore, you are sentenced to death, my foolish one, along with your servants, strength, and vehicle. Attend to all your duties, for great fear has come upon you.
हन्तास्मि वृषसेनं ते प्रेक्षमाणस्य संयुगे। ये चान्येऽप्युपयास्यन्ति बुद्धिमोहेन मां नृपाः ॥ तांश्च सर्वान्हनिष्यामि सत्येनायुधमालभे ॥७-१२३-१६॥
hantāsmi vṛṣasenaṃ te prekṣamāṇasya saṃyuge। ye cānye'pyupayāsyanti buddhimohena māṃ nṛpāḥ ॥ tāṃśca sarvānhaniṣyāmi satyenāyudhamālabhe ॥7-123-16॥
[हन्तास्मि (hantāsmi) - I will slay; वृषसेनं (vṛṣasenaṃ) - Vṛṣasena; ते (te) - your; प्रेक्षमाणस्य (prekṣamāṇasya) - while watching; संयुगे (saṃyuge) - in battle; ये (ye) - who; च (ca) - and; अन्ये (anye) - others; अपि (api) - also; उपयास्यन्ति (upayāsyanti) - will approach; बुद्धिमोहेन (buddhimohena) - with delusion of mind; मां (māṃ) - me; नृपाः (nṛpāḥ) - kings; तान् (tān) - them; च (ca) - and; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; हनिष्यामि (haniṣyāmi) - I will slay; सत्येन (satyena) - truly; आयुधम् (āyudham) - weapon; आलभे (ālabhe) - I take;]
(I will slay Vṛṣasena in battle while you watch. And the other kings who will approach me with delusion of mind, I will slay them all. Truly, I take up the weapon.)
I will kill Vṛṣasena in the battle while you watch. Any other kings who approach me in their delusion, I will also kill them all. Truly, I take up my weapon.
त्वां च मूढाकृतप्रज्ञमतिमानिनमाहवे। दृष्ट्वा दुर्योधनो मन्दो भृशं तप्स्यति पातितम् ॥७-१२३-१७॥
tvāṃ ca mūḍhākṛtaprajñamatimāninamāhave। dṛṣṭvā duryodhano mando bhṛśaṃ tapsyati pātitam ॥7-123-17॥
[त्वाम् (tvām) - you; च (ca) - and; मूढ (mūḍha) - foolish; अकृत (akṛta) - unwise; प्रज्ञ (prajña) - intelligent; मतिमानिनम् (matimāninam) - arrogant; आहवे (āhave) - in battle; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - seeing; दुर्योधनः (duryodhanaḥ) - Duryodhana; मन्दः (mandaḥ) - slow-witted; भृशम् (bhṛśam) - greatly; तप्स्यति (tapsyati) - will suffer; पातितम् (pātitam) - fallen;]
(And seeing you, foolish, unwise, intelligent, arrogant in battle, Duryodhana, slow-witted, will greatly suffer fallen.)
Seeing you, who is foolish and arrogant in battle, Duryodhana, being slow-witted, will greatly suffer upon your fall.
अर्जुनेन प्रतिज्ञाते वधे कर्णसुतस्य तु। महान्सुतुमुलः शब्दो बभूव रथिनां तदा ॥७-१२३-१८॥
arjunena pratijñāte vadhe karṇasutasya tu। mahānsutumulaḥ śabdo babhūva rathināṃ tadā ॥7-123-18॥
[अर्जुनेन (arjunena) - by Arjuna; प्रतिज्ञाते (pratijñāte) - having vowed; वधे (vadhe) - to kill; कर्णसुतस्य (karṇasutasya) - of Karna's son; तु (tu) - indeed; महान् (mahān) - great; सुतुमुलः (sutumulaḥ) - tumultuous; शब्दः (śabdaḥ) - sound; बभूव (babhūva) - arose; रथिनां (rathināṃ) - of the charioteers; तदा (tadā) - then;]
(By Arjuna having vowed to kill Karna's son, a great tumultuous sound arose from the charioteers then.)
When Arjuna vowed to kill Karna's son, a great tumultuous sound arose from the charioteers.
तस्मिन्नाकुलसङ्ग्रामे वर्तमाने महाभये। मन्दरश्मिः सहस्रांशुरस्तं गिरिमुपागमत् ॥७-१२३-१९॥
tasminnākulasaṅgrāme vartamāne mahābhaye। manda raśmiḥ sahasrāṃśur astaṃ girim upāgamat ॥7-123-19॥
[तस्मिन् (tasmin) - in that; आकुल (ākula) - chaotic; सङ्ग्रामे (saṅgrāme) - battle; वर्तमाने (vartamāne) - ongoing; महाभये (mahābhaye) - great fear; मन्दरश्मिः (manda raśmiḥ) - slow-rayed; सहस्रांशुः (sahasrāṃśuḥ) - thousand-rayed; अस्तं (astaṃ) - set; गिरिम् (girim) - mountain; उपागमत् (upāgamat) - approached;]
(In that chaotic battle, ongoing with great fear, the slow-rayed, thousand-rayed sun approached the mountain to set.)
In the midst of that chaotic and fearsome battle, the sun, with its slow and thousand rays, approached the mountain to set.
ततो राजन्हृषीकेशः सङ्ग्रामशिरसि स्थितम्। तीर्णप्रतिज्ञं बीभत्सुं परिष्वज्येदमब्रवीत् ॥७-१२३-२०॥
tato rājan hṛṣīkeśaḥ saṅgrāmaśirasi sthitam। tīrṇapratijñaṃ bībhatsuṃ pariṣvajyedamabravīt ॥7-123-20॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; राजन् (rājan) - O king; हृषीकेशः (hṛṣīkeśaḥ) - Hṛṣīkeśa (Krishna); सङ्ग्रामशिरसि (saṅgrāmaśirasi) - at the forefront of the battle; स्थितम् (sthitam) - standing; तीर्णप्रतिज्ञम् (tīrṇapratijñam) - one who has fulfilled his vow; बीभत्सुम् (bībhatsum) - Bībhatsu (Arjuna); परिष्वज्य (pariṣvajya) - embracing; इदम् (idam) - this; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said;]
(Then, O king, Hṛṣīkeśa (Krishna), standing at the forefront of the battle, embraced Bībhatsu (Arjuna), who had fulfilled his vow, and said this.)
Then, O king, Krishna, standing at the forefront of the battle, embraced Arjuna, who had fulfilled his vow, and spoke these words.
दिष्ट्या सम्पादिता जिष्णो प्रतिज्ञा महती त्वया। दिष्ट्या च निहतः पापो वृद्धक्षत्रः सहात्मजः ॥७-१२३-२१॥
diṣṭyā sampāditā jiṣṇo pratijñā mahatī tvayā। diṣṭyā ca nihataḥ pāpo vṛddhakṣatraḥ sahātmajaḥ ॥7-123-21॥

धार्तराष्ट्रबलं प्राप्य देवसेनापि भारत। सीदेत समरे जिष्णो नात्र कार्या विचारणा ॥७-१२३-२२॥
dhārtarāṣṭrabalam prāpya devasenāpi bhārata। sīdet samare jiṣṇo nātra kāryā vicāraṇā ॥7-123-22॥

न तं पश्यामि लोकेषु चिन्तयन्पुरुषं क्वचित्। त्वदृते पुरुषव्याघ्र य एतद्योधयेद्बलम् ॥७-१२३-२३॥
na taṃ paśyāmi lokeṣu cintayanpuruṣaṃ kvacit। tvadṛte puruṣavyāghra ya etadyodhayedbalam ॥7-123-23॥

महाप्रभावा बहवस्त्वया तुल्याधिकापि वा। समेताः पृथिवीपाला धार्तराष्ट्रस्य कारणात् ॥ ते त्वां प्राप्य रणे क्रुद्धं नाभ्यवर्तन्त दंशिताः ॥७-१२३-२४॥

(Your strength and power are indeed like the anger of Rudra and Indra. No one can perform such valor in battle as you have done today, alone, tormentor of enemies.)

(Thus indeed, having been killed, Karna along with his followers, the wicked soul, I will increase you again, conqueror of enemies, destroyer of foes.)

तमर्जुनः प्रत्युवाच प्रसादात्तव माधव। प्रतिज्ञेयं मयोत्तीर्णा विबुधैरपि दुस्तरा ॥७-१२३-२७॥
tamarjunaḥ pratyuvāca prasādāttava mādhava। pratijñeyaṃ mayottīrṇā vibudhairapi dustarā ॥7-123-27॥

(Arjuna replied, "By your grace, O Mādhava, this promise has been fulfilled by me, even though it is difficult to cross by the wise.")
Arjuna replied to Krishna, "O Mādhava, it is by your grace that I have fulfilled this promise, which even the wise find difficult to accomplish."
अनाश्चर्यो जयस्तेषां येषां नाथोऽसि माधव। त्वत्प्रसादान्महीं कृत्स्नां सम्प्राप्स्यति युधिष्ठिरः ॥७-१२३-२८॥
anāścaryo jayasteṣāṃ yeṣāṃ nātho'si mādhava। tvatprasādānmahīṃ kṛtsnāṃ samprāpsyati yudhiṣṭhiraḥ ॥7-123-28॥

(Victory is not surprising for those whose lord you are, O Mādhava. By your grace, Yudhiṣṭhira will obtain the entire earth.)
It is no wonder that those who have you as their lord, O Mādhava, achieve victory. Through your grace, Yudhiṣṭhira will gain dominion over the entire earth.
तवैव भारो वार्ष्णेय तवैव विजयः प्रभो। वर्धनीयास्तव वयं प्रेष्याश्च मधुसूदन ॥७-१२३-२९॥

(Yours alone is the burden, O descendant of Vṛṣṇi, yours alone is the victory, O lord. To be enhanced are we, your servants, O slayer of Madhu.)
The responsibility and victory are solely yours, O descendant of Vṛṣṇi and lord. We are to be uplifted as your servants, O slayer of Madhu.
एवमुक्तः स्मयन्कृष्णः शनकैर्वाहयन्हयान्। दर्शयामास पार्थाय क्रूरमायोधनं महत् ॥७-१२३-३०॥
evamuktaḥ smayankṛṣṇaḥ śanakairvāhayanhayān। darśayāmāsa pārthāya krūramāyodhanaṃ mahat ॥7-123-30॥

Upon being spoken to in this manner, Krishna, with a smile, slowly drove the horses, revealing to Arjuna the vast and dreadful battlefield.
