तस्मिन्विनिहते वीरे सैन्धवे सव्यसाचिना। मामका यदकुर्वन्त तन्ममाचक्ष्व सञ्जय ॥७-१२२-१॥
tasmin vinihate vīre saindhave savyasācinā। māmakā yad akurvanta tan mamācakṣva sañjaya ॥7-122-1॥

(In that slain hero Saindhava by Arjuna, what my people did, that tell me, Sanjaya.)

saindhavaṁ nihataṁ dṛṣṭvā raṇe pārthena māriṣa। amarṣavaśamāpannaḥ kṛpaḥ śāradvatastadā ॥7-122-2॥

(Having seen Jayadratha slain in battle by Arjuna, O sir, Kṛpa, the son of Śaradvat, was then overcome with anger.)
Upon witnessing Jayadratha's death at the hands of Arjuna in the battle, Kṛpa, the son of Śaradvat, was filled with rage.
महता शरवर्षेण पाण्डवं समवाकिरत्। द्रौणिश्चाभ्यद्रवत्पार्थं रथमास्थाय फल्गुनम् ॥७-१२२-३॥

(Those two, the best of charioteers, by chariots, showered this best among chariots from both sides with sharp arrows.)

स तथा शरवर्षाभ्यां सुमहद्भ्यां महाभुजः। पीड्यमानः परामार्तिमगमद्रथिनां वरः ॥७-१२२-५॥

(He, the mighty-armed, thus being tormented by very great showers of arrows, attained great distress, the best of charioteers.)
The mighty-armed hero, under the intense barrage of arrows, found himself in great distress, standing out as the best among charioteers.
सोऽजिघांसुर्गुरुं सङ्ख्ये गुरोस्तनयमेव च। चकाराचार्यकं तत्र कुन्तीपुत्रो धनञ्जयः ॥७-१२२-६॥
so'jighāṃsur guruṃ saṅkhye gurostanayameva ca। cakārācāryakaṃ tatra kuntīputro dhanañjayaḥ ॥7-122-6॥

(He, intending to kill the teacher and also the teacher's son in the battle, performed the duty of a teacher there, the son of Kunti, Dhananjaya.)

अथ शारद्वतो राजन्कौन्तेयशरपीडितः। अवासीदद्रथोपस्थे मूर्च्छामभिजगाम ह ॥७-१२२-९॥

(Then Śāradvata, O king, afflicted by the arrows of the son of Kunti, sank onto the seat of the chariot and indeed entered unconsciousness.)

विह्वलं तमभिज्ञाय भर्तारं शरपीडितम्। हतोऽयमिति च ज्ञात्वा सारथिस्तमपावहत् ॥७-१२२-१०॥
vihvalaṃ tam abhijñāya bhartāraṃ śarapīḍitam। hato'yam iti ca jñātvā sārathis tam apāvahat ॥7-122-10॥

(Recognizing him as distressed and afflicted by arrows, knowing 'this one is killed', the charioteer removed him.)

तस्मिन्सन्ने महाराज कृपे शारद्वते युधि। अश्वत्थामाप्यपायासीत्पाण्डवेयाद्रथान्तरम् ॥७-१२२-११॥
tasminsanne mahārāja kṛpe śāradvate yudhi। aśvatthāmāpyapāyāsītpāṇḍaveyādrathāntaram ॥7-122-11॥

(In that proximity, O great king, Kṛpa, son of Śaradvat, in battle, Aśvatthāmā also went away from the Pāṇḍava to another chariot.)

पश्यन्निदं महाप्राज्ञः क्षत्ता राजानमुक्तवान्। कुलान्तकरणे पापे जातमात्रे सुयोधने ॥७-१२२-१३॥
paśyannidaṃ mahāprājñaḥ kṣattā rājānamuktavān। kulāntakaraṇe pāpe jātamātre suyodhane ॥7-122-13॥

(Seeing this, the wise minister said to the king, "The sinful destroyer of the family, Suyodhana, has just been born.")

नीयतां परलोकाय साध्वयं कुलपांसनः। अस्माद्धि कुरुमुख्यानां महदुत्पत्स्यते भयम् ॥७-१२२-१४॥
nīyatāṃ paralokāya sādhvayaṃ kulapāṃsanaḥ। asmāddhi kurumukhyānāṃ mahadutpatsyate bhayam ॥7-122-14॥
[नीयताम् (nīyatām) - let it be sent; परलोकाय (paralokāya) - to the other world; साधु (sādhu) - good; अयम् (ayam) - this; कुलपांसनः (kulapāṃsanaḥ) - disgrace of the family; अस्मात् (asmāt) - from this; हि (hi) - indeed; कुरुमुख्यानाम् (kurumukhyānām) - of the chiefs of the Kuru; महत् (mahat) - great; उत्पत्स्यते (utpatsyate) - will arise; भयम् (bhayam) - fear;]
(Let this disgrace of the family be sent to the other world; for from this, indeed, great fear will arise for the chiefs of the Kuru.)

तदिदं समनुप्राप्तं वचनं सत्यवादिनः। तत्कृते ह्यद्य पश्यामि शरतल्पगतं कृपम् ॥७-१२२-१५॥
tadidaṁ samanuprāptaṁ vacanaṁ satyavādinaḥ। tatkṛte hyadya paśyāmi śaratalpagataṁ kṛpam ॥7-122-15॥
[तत् (tat) - that; इदं (idaṁ) - this; समनुप्राप्तं (samanuprāptaṁ) - reached; वचनं (vacanaṁ) - word; सत्यवादिनः (satyavādinaḥ) - of the truth-speaker; तत् (tat) - for that; कृते (kṛte) - for the sake; हि (hi) - indeed; अद्य (adya) - today; पश्यामि (paśyāmi) - I see; शरतल्पगतं (śaratalpagataṁ) - lying on the bed of arrows; कृपम् (kṛpam) - Kṛpa;]
(That this word of the truth-speaker has reached. For that indeed today I see Kṛpa lying on the bed of arrows.)

धिगस्तु क्षात्रमाचारं धिगस्तु बलपौरुषम्। को हि ब्राह्मणमाचार्यमभिद्रुह्येत मादृशः ॥७-१२२-१६॥
dhigastu kṣātramācāraṃ dhigastu balapauruṣam। ko hi brāhmaṇamācāryamabhidruhyeta mādṛśaḥ ॥7-122-16॥
[धिक् (dhik) - shame; अस्तु (astu) - be; क्षात्रम् (kṣātram) - of the warrior class; आचारम् (ācāram) - conduct; धिक् (dhik) - shame; अस्तु (astu) - be; बल (bala) - strength; पौरुषम् (pauruṣam) - manliness; कः (kaḥ) - who; हि (hi) - indeed; ब्राह्मणम् (brāhmaṇam) - a Brahmin; आचार्यम् (ācāryam) - teacher; अभिद्रुह्येत (abhidruhyeta) - would harm; मादृशः (mādṛśaḥ) - like me;]
(Shame be upon the conduct of the warrior class, shame be upon strength and manliness. Who indeed like me would harm a Brahmin teacher?)

ऋषिपुत्रो ममाचार्यो द्रोणस्य दयितः सखा। एष शेते रथोपस्थे मद्बाणैरभिपीडितः ॥७-१२२-१७॥

अकामयानेन मया विशिखैरर्दितो भृशम्। अवासीदद्रथोपस्थे प्राणान्पीडयतीव मे ॥७-१२२-१८॥

(Having prepared knowledge, indeed, the best among men offer to the teachers here who desire, they attain divinity.)
