tānabhidravato dṛṣṭvā pāṇḍavāṃstāvakṃ balam। krośatastava putrasya na sma rājannyavartata ॥8-34-1॥

(Seeing them charging, your army, the Pāṇḍavas, did not stop shouting, O king, your son indeed.)

ततः पक्षात्प्रपक्षाच्च प्रपक्षैश्चापि दक्षिणात्। उदस्तशस्त्राः कुरवो भीममभ्यद्रवन्रणे ॥८-३४-२॥
tataḥ pakṣāt prapakṣāc ca prapakṣaiś cāpi dakṣiṇāt। udastaśastrāḥ kuravo bhīmam abhyadravan raṇe ॥8-34-2॥

The horses, dispatched by the great king Śalya, who shone in battle, were yoked to Bhīmasena's chariot after reaching it.
दृष्ट्वा कर्णं समायान्तं भीमः क्रोधसमन्वितः। मतिं दध्रे विनाशाय कर्णस्य भरतर्षभ ॥८-३४-५॥
dṛṣṭvā karṇaṃ samāyāntaṃ bhīmaḥ krodhasamanvitaḥ। matiṃ dadhre vināśāya karṇasya bharatarṣabha ॥8-34-5॥

सोऽब्रवीत्सात्यकिं वीरं धृष्टद्युम्नं च पार्षतम्। एनं रक्षत राजानं धर्मात्मानं युधिष्ठिरम् ॥ संशयान्महतो मुक्तं कथञ्चित्प्रेक्षतो मम ॥८-३४-६॥
so'bravītsātyakiṃ vīraṃ dhṛṣṭadyumnaṃ ca pārṣatam। enaṃ rakṣata rājānaṃ dharmātmānaṃ yudhiṣṭhiram ॥ saṃśayānmahato muktaṃ kathañcitprekṣato mama ॥8-34-6॥

(He said to the heroic Satyaki and Dhṛṣṭadyumna, the son of Pṛṣata: "Protect this righteous king Yudhiṣṭhira, who has somehow been freed from great danger while I was watching.")

अग्रतो मे कृतो राजा छिन्नसर्वपरिच्छदः। दुर्योधनस्य प्रीत्यर्थं राधेयेन दुरात्मना ॥८-३४-७॥

antamadya kariṣyāmi tasya duḥkhasya pārṣata। hantā vāasmi raṇe karṇaṃ sa vā māṃ nihaniṣyati ॥ saṅgrāmeṇa sughoreṇa satyametadbravīmi vaḥ ॥8-34-8॥

(Today I will end his sorrow, O son of Prishata. Either I am the killer of Karna in battle, or he will kill me. By this terrible battle, I speak the truth to you.)

राजानमद्य भवतां न्यासभूतं ददामि वै। अस्य संरक्षणे सर्वे यतध्वं विगतज्वराः ॥८-३४-९॥
rājānam adya bhavatāṃ nyāsabhūtaṃ dadāmi vai। asya saṃrakṣaṇe sarve yatadhvaṃ vigatajvarāḥ ॥8-34-9॥

एवमुक्त्वा महाबाहुः प्रायादाधिरथिं प्रति। सिंहनादेन महता सर्वाः संनादयन्दिशः ॥८-३४-१०॥
evamuktvā mahābāhuḥ prāyādādhirathiṃ prati। siṃhanādena mahatā sarvāḥ saṃnādayandiśaḥ ॥8-34-10॥

दृष्ट्वा त्वरितमायान्तं भीमं युद्धाभिनन्दिनम्। सूतपुत्रमथोवाच मद्राणामीश्वरो विभुः ॥८-३४-११॥

पश्य कर्ण महाबाहुं क्रुद्धं पाण्डवनन्दनम्। दीर्घकालार्जितं क्रोधं मोक्तुकामं त्वयि ध्रुवम् ॥८-३४-१२॥
paśya karṇa mahābāhuṃ kruddhaṃ pāṇḍavanandanam। dīrghakālāṛjitaṃ krodhaṃ moktukāmaṃ tvayi dhruvam ॥8-34-12॥

ईदृशं नास्य रूपं मे दृष्टपूर्वं कदाचन। अभिमन्यौ हते कर्ण राक्षसे वा घटोत्कचे ॥८-३४-१३॥
īdṛśaṃ nāsya rūpaṃ me dṛṣṭapūrvaṃ kadācana। abhimanyau hate karṇa rākṣase vā ghaṭotkace ॥8-34-13॥

trailokyasya samastasya śaktaḥ kruddho nivāraṇe। bibharti yādṛśaṃ rūpaṃ kālāgnisadṛśaṃ śubham ॥8-34-14॥
[त्रैलोक्यस्य (trailokyasya) - of the three worlds; समस्तस्य (samastasya) - of all; शक्तः (śaktaḥ) - capable; क्रुद्धः (kruddhaḥ) - angry; निवारणे (nivāraṇe) - in restraining; बिभर्ति (bibharti) - bears; यादृशम् (yādṛśam) - such; रूपम् (rūpam) - form; कालाग्निसदृशम् (kālāgnisadṛśam) - like the fire of destruction; शुभम् (śubham) - auspicious;]
(He, capable of restraining all of the three worlds when angry, bears a form like the auspicious fire of destruction.)

यदुक्तं वचनं मेऽद्य त्वया मद्रजनेश्वर। भीमसेनं प्रति विभो तत्सत्यं नात्र संशयः ॥८-३४-१७॥

एष शूरश्च वीरश्च क्रोधनश्च वृकोदरः। निरपेक्षः शरीरे च प्राणतश्च बलाधिकः ॥८-३४-१८॥

(He, today, armed at the head of the battle, intoxicated with anger, even with death as a servant with a raised stick, would go to battle.)
