Core and Pancharatra: Informing Sanjaya, Duryodhana enters the lake. Only three chariots, that of Kripa, Krtavarma and Ashwatthama are left, who flee after seeing Pandavas. Yuyutsu takes permission from Yudhishthira and Bhima, and returns.

तानर्जुनः प्रत्यगृह्णात्सहदेवजये धृतः। भीमसेनश्च तेजस्वी क्रुद्धाशीविषदर्शनः ॥९-२८-२॥

(Arjuna accepted them, held in the victory of Sahadeva. Bhimasena, glorious and angry, appeared like a serpent.)

प्रगृहीतायुधान्बाहून्योधानामभिधावताम्। भल्लैश्चिच्छेद बीभत्सुः शिरांस्यपि हयानपि ॥९-२८-४॥

(Bibhatsu (Arjuna) cut the arms of the warriors rushing with held weapons, and also the heads and horses with arrows.)
Arjuna, known as Bibhatsu, severed the arms of the warriors who were rushing with weapons, and also cut off the heads and horses with his arrows.
ते हताः प्रत्यपद्यन्त वसुधां विगतासवः। त्वरिता लोकवीरेण प्रहताः सव्यसाचिना ॥९-२८-५॥

ततो दुर्योधनो राजा दृष्ट्वा स्वबलसङ्क्षयम्। हतशेषान्समानीय क्रुद्धो रथशतान्विभो ॥९-२८-६॥
tato duryodhano rājā dṛṣṭvā svabalasaṅkṣayam। hataśeṣānsamānīya kruddho rathaśatānvibho ॥9-28-6॥

(Then King Duryodhana, having seen the destruction of his own army, gathered the remaining slain ones, angry with hundreds of chariots, O lord.)

कुञ्जरांश्च हयांश्चैव पादातांश्च परन्तप। उवाच सहितान्सर्वान्धार्तराष्ट्र इदं वचः ॥९-२८-७॥

समासाद्य रणे सर्वान्पाण्डवान्ससुहृद्गणान्। पाञ्चाल्यं चापि सबलं हत्वा शीघ्रं निवर्तत ॥९-२८-८॥
samāsādya raṇe sarvān-pāṇḍavān-sasuhr̥d-gaṇān। pāñcālyaṃ cāpi sabalaṃ hatvā śīghraṃ nivartata ॥9-28-8॥

तस्य ते शिरसा गृह्य वचनं युद्धदुर्मदाः। प्रत्युद्ययू रणे पार्थांस्तव पुत्रस्य शासनात् ॥९-२८-९॥
tasya te śirasā gṛhya vacanaṃ yuddhadurmadāḥ। pratyudyayū raṇe pārthāṃstava putrasya śāsanāt ॥9-28-9॥

Upon accepting your words with respect, those arrogant in battle advanced against the sons of Pritha in the battlefield, following the command of your son.
तानभ्यापततः शीघ्रं हतशेषान्महारणे। शरैराशीविषाकारैः पाण्डवाः समवाकिरन् ॥९-२८-१०॥
tān abhyāpatataḥ śīghraṃ hataśeṣān mahāraṇe। śarair āśīviṣākāraiḥ pāṇḍavāḥ samavākiran ॥9-28-10॥

(The Pandavas quickly covered them, who were approaching, with arrows like serpents in the great battle, the remaining after being killed.)
The Pandavas swiftly attacked the approaching remnants in the great battle, showering them with serpent-like arrows.
तत्सैन्यं भरतश्रेष्ठ मुहूर्तेन महात्मभिः। अवध्यत रणं प्राप्य त्रातारं नाभ्यविन्दत ॥ प्रतिष्ठमानं तु भयान्नावतिष्ठत दंशितम् ॥९-२८-११॥
tatsainyaṃ bharataśreṣṭha muhūrtena mahātmabhiḥ। avadhyata raṇaṃ prāpya trātāraṃ nābhyavindata ॥ pratiṣṭhamānaṃ tu bhayānnāvatiṣṭhata daṃśitam ॥9-28-11॥

(That army, O best of the Bharatas, was killed in a moment by the great souls; having reached the battle, it found no protector. But standing, out of fear, it did not remain bitten.)
O best of the Bharatas, that army was swiftly destroyed by the great souls; upon reaching the battlefield, they found no protector. In fear, they stood but did not remain, as if bitten.
अश्वैर्विपरिधावद्भिः सैन्येन रजसा वृते। न प्राज्ञायन्त समरे दिशश्च प्रदिशस्तथा ॥९-२८-१२॥
aśvairviparidhāvadbhiḥ sainyena rajasā vṛte। na prājñāyanta samare diśaśca pradiśastathā ॥9-28-12॥

(Covered by dust raised by the army and horses running around, the directions and sub-directions were not recognized in the battle.)
In the battle, the dust raised by the army and the horses running around enveloped everything, making it impossible to recognize the directions and sub-directions.
ततस्तु पाण्डवानीकान्निःसृत्य बहवो जनाः। अभ्यघ्नंस्तावकान्युद्धे मुहूर्तादिव भारत ॥ ततो निःशेषमभवत्तत्सैन्यं तव भारत ॥९-२८-१३॥

(Then, having emerged from the Pandava army, many people struck your men in battle, like in a moment, O Bharata. Then, that army of yours became completely destroyed, O Bharata.)
Then, many people emerged from the Pandava army and attacked your men in battle, as if in an instant, O Bharata. Consequently, your entire army was annihilated, O Bharata.
अक्षौहिण्यः समेतास्तु तव पुत्रस्य भारत। एकादश हता युद्धे ताः प्रभो पाण्डुसृञ्जयैः ॥९-२८-१४॥
akṣauhiṇyaḥ sametāstu tava putrasya bhārata। ekādaśa hatā yuddhe tāḥ prabho pāṇḍusṛñjayaiḥ ॥9-28-14॥

(The divisions of army assembled, but your son's, O Bharata, eleven were killed in battle, they, O lord, by the Pandavas and Srinjayas.)

तेषु राजसहस्रेषु तावकेषु महात्मसु। एको दुर्योधनो राजन्नदृश्यत भृशं क्षतः ॥९-२८-१५॥

(Among those thousands of kings, among your great souls, one Duryodhana, O king, was seen greatly wounded.)
Among the thousands of kings and your great warriors, only Duryodhana was seen severely wounded, O king.
ततो वीक्ष्य दिशः सर्वा दृष्ट्वा शून्यां च मेदिनीम्। विहीनः सर्वयोधैश्च पाण्डवान्वीक्ष्य संयुगे ॥९-२८-१६॥
tato vīkṣya diśaḥ sarvā dṛṣṭvā śūnyāṃ ca medinīm। vihīnaḥ sarvayodhaiśca pāṇḍavānvīkṣya saṃyuge ॥9-28-16॥

मुदितान्सर्वसिद्धार्थान्नर्दमानान्समन्ततः। बाणशब्दरवांश्चैव श्रुत्वा तेषां महात्मनाम् ॥९-२८-१७॥

(Joyful, all-accomplished, roaring all around, having heard the noise of the sound of arrows, of those great souls.)
The great souls, joyful and accomplished, roared all around upon hearing the noise of the arrows.
दुर्योधनो महाराज कश्मलेनाभिसंवृतः। अपयाने मनश्चक्रे विहीनबलवाहनः ॥९-२८-१८॥

(When my army was killed and the camp was completely destroyed, O charioteer, what strength of the Pandavas was left then? Tell me this, as you are skilled, Sanjaya.)

यच्च दुर्योधनो मन्दः कृतवांस्तनयो मम। बलक्षयं तथा दृष्ट्वा स एकः पृथिवीपतिः ॥९-२८-२०॥

(Which foolish Duryodhana, my son, did; seeing thus the loss of strength, he, the one king of the earth.)

अनुज्ञातस्त्वहं तेन न्यस्तवर्मा निरायुधः। प्रातिष्ठं येन नगरं सायाह्ने रुधिरोक्षितः ॥९-२८-३९॥
anujñātastvahaṃ tena nyastavarmā nirāyudhaḥ। prātiṣṭhaṃ yena nagaraṃ sāyāhne rudhirokṣitaḥ ॥9-28-39॥

ततो राज्ञः कलत्राणि भ्रातॄणां चास्य सर्वशः। वाहनेषु समारोप्य स्त्र्यध्यक्षाः प्राद्रवन्भयात् ॥९-२८-८८॥
tato rājñaḥ kalatrāṇi bhrātṝṇāṃ cāsya sarvaśaḥ। vāhaneṣu samāropya stryadhyakṣāḥ prādravanbhayāt ॥9-28-88॥

etacchrutvā tu vacanaṃ vaiśyāputreṇa bhāṣitam। prāptakālamiti jñātvā viduraḥ sarvadharmavit ॥ apūjayadameyātmā yuyutsuṃ vākyakovidam ॥9-28-90॥

(This time has arrived for all at the end of the Bharata dynasty. Today you are rested here; tomorrow you will go to Yudhishthira.)
The time has come for everything to conclude with the end of the Bharata dynasty. Today, you have rested here; tomorrow, you will go to meet Yudhishthira.
एतावदुक्त्वा वचनं विदुरः सर्वधर्मवित्। युयुत्सुं समनुज्ञाप्य प्रविवेश नृपक्षयम् ॥ युयुत्सुरपि तां रात्रिं स्वगृहे न्यवसत्तदा ॥९-२८-९२॥
