(001. Conversation of Sañjaya and Dhṛtarāṣṭra. Sitting down under the banyan tree in the middle of the forest, having arrived there by Drauṇi, Kṛpa, and Kṛtavarman. There at night, Drauṇi, who saw the killing of many crows by the owl, similarly determined the killing of the Pāṇḍavas by himself. Then, Kṛpa and Kṛtavarman, having awakened, request to state their own duty. (70))
001. Sañjaya and Dhṛtarāṣṭra converse. Drauṇi, Kṛpa, and Kṛtavarman arrive at the center of the forest and sit beneath a banyan tree. That night, Drauṇi, having witnessed an owl kill many crows, resolves to destroy the Pāṇḍavas in the same way. Afterwards, Kṛpa and Kṛtavarman awaken and ask about their own duties. (70)

015. arjunena vyāsa-nārada-bhāva-anurodhena svaprayukta-brahmaśirastra-pratisaṃhāraḥ॥ kṛṣṇena aśvatthāmānaṃ prati uttara-garbhe aiṣīkāstra-pāte'pi mṛta-śiśoḥ svena samujjīvana-pratijñā॥ brahmacaryābhāvāt asra-pratisaṃhāra-asamarthena drauṇinā vyāsa-kṛṣṇa-avana-adṛśya pāṇḍava-garbheṣu aiṣīkāstra-utsarjanam॥
[अर्जुनेन (arjunena) - by Arjuna; व्यासनारदभावानुरोधेन (vyāsa-nārada-bhāva-anurodhena) - at the request of Vyāsa and Nārada; स्वप्रयुक्तब्रह्मशिरोस्त्रप्रतिसंहारः (svaprayukta-brahmaśirastra-pratisaṃhāraḥ) - withdrawal of the Brahmaśiras weapon launched by himself; कृष्णेन (kṛṣṇena) - by Kṛṣṇa; अश्वत्थामानं (aśvatthāmānam) - towards Aśvatthāmā; प्रति (prati) - towards; उत्तरागर्भे (uttara-garbhe) - in the womb of Uttara; ऐषीकास्त्रपातेऽपि (aiṣīkāstra-pāte'pi) - even when the missile was cast; मृतशिशोः (mṛta-śiśoḥ) - of the dead child; स्वेन (svena) - by his own; समुज्जीवनप्रतिज्ञा (samujjīvana-pratijñā) - vow to revive; ब्रह्मचर्याभावात् (brahmacaryābhāvāt) - due to lack of celibacy; अस्रप्रतिसंहारासमर्थेन (asra-pratisaṃhāra-asamarthena) - being unable to withdraw the weapon; द्रौणिना (drauṇinā) - by the son of Droṇa; व्यासकृष्णावनादृस्य (vyāsa-kṛṣṇa-avana-adṛśya) - disregarding the protection of Vyāsa and Kṛṣṇa; पाण्वगर्भेषु (pāṇḍava-garbheṣu) - in the wombs of the Pāṇḍavas; ऐषीकास्त्रोत्सर्जनम् (aiṣīkāstra-utsarjanam) - release of the missile;]
(By Arjuna, at the request of Vyāsa and Nārada, withdrawal of the Brahmaśiras weapon launched by himself. By Kṛṣṇa, towards Aśvatthāmā, even when the missile was cast at the fetus of Uttara, vow to revive the dead child by his own power. By the son of Droṇa, due to lack of celibacy, being unable to withdraw the weapon, disregarding the protection of Vyāsa and Kṛṣṇa, release of the missile at the fetuses of the Pāṇḍavas.)
015. Arjuna, at the request of Vyāsa and Nārada, withdrew the Brahmaśiras weapon he had launched. Kṛṣṇa, even when Aśvatthāmā cast the missile at Uttara's unborn child, vowed to revive the dead child by his own power. The son of Droṇa, unable to withdraw the weapon due to lack of celibacy and disregarding the protection of Vyāsa and Kṛṣṇa, released the missile at the Pāṇḍava fetuses.

016. Kṛṣṇa, by breaking his own promise, and Vyāsa, by approving the curse given to Aśvatthāman, and Bhīma, by taking the jewel from Droṇa's son's head, comforted Draupadī; Yudhiṣṭhira, following Draupadī's words, wore that jewel on his own head.
०१७. युधिष्ठिरेण द्रौणेरेकस्य बहुमारणशक्तिप्रश्ने कृष्णेन रुद्रप्रसादादित्युक्त्वा रुद्रमहिमकथनम्॥ (26)

[युधिष्ठिरेण (yudhiṣṭhireṇa) - by Yudhishthira; द्रौणेः (drauṇeḥ) - of Drona's son (Ashvatthama); एकस्य (ekasya) - of one; बहु (bahu) - many; मरण (māraṇa) - killing; शक्ति (śakti) - power; प्रश्ने (praśne) - in the question; कृष्णेन (kṛṣṇena) - by Krishna; रुद्र (rudra) - Rudra; प्रसादात् (prasādāt) - by the grace; इति (iti) - thus; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having said; रुद्र (rudra) - Rudra; महिम (mahima) - greatness; कथनम् (kathanam) - narration;]
(By Yudhishthira, regarding Drona's son's (Ashvatthama's) question about the power to kill many by one, Krishna, having said 'by the grace of Rudra', narrates the greatness of Rudra.)
017. Yudhishthira asked Krishna about Ashvatthama's ability to kill many at once, and Krishna, saying it was by Rudra's grace, narrated the greatness of Rudra.
