001. Sañjaya consoled Dhṛtarāṣṭra, who was grieving for his sons and others.
002. Vidura removed Dhṛtarāṣṭra's sorrow by narrating the meaning of the scriptures.(37)
003. Vidura expounds the meaning of the scriptures to dispel Dhritarashtra's ignorance.(20)
004. Vidura describes to Dhṛtarāṣṭra how the living being dwells in the womb.(20)
005. In the next chapter, Vidura is about to depict to Dhritarashtra the nature of saṃsāra and related matters as if they are like a forest and so on.

009. Dhṛtarāṣṭra, accompanied by Gandhari and other women, set out towards the battlefield to see the dead.
010. As Dhṛtarāṣṭra proceeded to the battlefield to see his dead relatives, he met Kṛpa, Kṛtavarman, and the son(s) of Droṇa on the way.
011. Yudhiṣṭhira, along with Kṛṣṇa and others, approached Dhṛtarāṣṭra and offered salutations. Dhṛtarāṣṭra gently embraced Yudhiṣṭhira, and then, knowing his feelings, Kṛṣṇa placed the iron effigy of Bhīma in front, which Dhṛtarāṣṭra broke with a firm embrace.
012. Inspired by Kṛṣṇa's words, Dhṛtarāṣṭra, with a delighted mind, embraced Bhīma and the others.(17)
013. Kṛṣṇa, Yudhiṣṭhira, and others approached Gāndhārī. Vyāsa, having arrived beforehand and knowing that Gāndhārī wished to curse Yudhiṣṭhira, pacified her anger.

025. Gāndhārī gives a curse to Kṛṣṇa, after narrating the reason for his indifference regarding the destruction of the Kurus and Pāṇḍavas, for the destruction of all their relatives.
026. Kṛṣṇa consoled Gāndhārī, who had fallen to the ground in grief. By Yudhiṣṭhira's command, Vidura, Sañjaya, and others performed the cremation rites for the dead.
027. Dhritarashtra, Yudhishthira, and others went to the bank of the Ganga to offer water to the dead. At the start of the water-offering, Kunti revealed to Yudhishthira that Karna was her own son and urged him to offer water. Dhritarashtra, Yudhishthira, and the others offered water to their relatives. (33)
