राजपुत्र उवाच॥

The prince said.
न निकृत्या न दम्भेन ब्रह्मन्निच्छामि जीवितुम्। नाधर्मयुक्तानिच्छेयमर्थान्सुमहतोऽप्यहम् ॥१२-१०७-१॥
na nikṛtyā na dambhena brahman nicchāmi jīvitum। nādharmayuktān iccheyam arthān sumahato'py aham ॥12-107-1॥
[न (na) - not; निकृत्या (nikṛtyā) - by deceit; न (na) - not; दम्भेन (dambhena) - by hypocrisy; ब्रह्मन् (brahman) - O Brāhmaṇa; निच्छामि (nicchāmi) - I desire; जीवितुम् (jīvitum) - to live; न (na) - not; अधर्मयुक्तान् (adharmayuktān) - connected with unrighteousness; इच्छेयम् (iccheyam) - I would wish; अर्थान् (arthān) - objects (wealth); सुमहतः (sumahataḥ) - very great; अपि (api) - even; अहम् (aham) - I;]
(Not by deceit, not by hypocrisy, O Brāhmaṇa, do I desire to live; nor would I wish for objects (wealth) connected with unrighteousness, even if they are very great.)
O Brāhmaṇa, I do not wish to live by deceit or hypocrisy; nor would I desire wealth gained through unrighteous means, even if it is very great.
पुरस्तादेव भगवन्मयैतदपवर्जितम्। येन मां नाभिशङ्केत यद्वा कृत्स्नं हितं भवेत् ॥१२-१०७-२॥
purastādeva bhagavan mayaitad apavarjitam। yena māṃ nābhiśaṅketa yad vā kṛtsnaṃ hitaṃ bhavet ॥12-107-2॥
[पुरस्तात् (purastāt) - before; earlier; एव (eva) - indeed; only; भगवन् (bhagavan) - O Lord; मया (mayā) - by me; एतत् (etat) - this; अपवर्जितम् (apavarjitam) - removed; set aside; येन (yena) - by which; माम् (mām) - me; न (na) - not; अभिशङ्केत (abhiśaṅketa) - would suspect; यत् (yat) - whatever; वा (vā) - or; कृत्स्नम् (kṛtsnam) - entire; whole; हितम् (hitam) - benefit; welfare; भवेत् (bhavet) - might be; would be;]
(Before indeed, O Lord, by me this has been set aside; by which me not would suspect, or whatever entire benefit might be.)
O Lord, I have already set this aside myself, so that no one would suspect me, or so that whatever is wholly beneficial may result.
आनृशंस्येन धर्मेण लोके ह्यस्मिञ्जिजीविषुः। नाहमेतदलं कर्तुं नैतन्मय्युपपद्यते ॥१२-१०७-३॥
ānṛśaṁsyena dharmeṇa loke hyasmiñ jijīviṣuḥ। nāham etad alaṁ kartuṁ naitan mayyupapadyate ॥12-107-3॥
[आनृशंस्येन (ānṛśaṁsyena) - by non-cruelty; धर्मेण (dharmeṇa) - by righteousness; लोके (loke) - in the world; हि (hi) - indeed; अस्मिन् (asmin) - in this; जिजीविषुः (jijīviṣuḥ) - desiring to live; न (na) - not; अहम् (aham) - I; एतत् (etat) - this; अलम् (alam) - capable; कर्तुम् (kartum) - to do; न (na) - not; एतत् (etat) - this; मयि (mayi) - in me; उपपद्यते (upapadyate) - is fitting;]
(By non-cruelty, by righteousness, in the world, indeed, in this, desiring to live; not I this capable to do; not this in me is fitting.)
One who desires to live in this world should act with non-cruelty and righteousness; I am not able to do this, nor is this fitting for me.
मुनिरुवाच॥

The sage said.
उपपन्नस्त्वमेतेन यथा क्षत्रिय भाषसे। प्रकृत्या ह्युपपन्नोऽसि बुद्ध्या चाद्भुतदर्शन ॥१२-१०७-४॥
upapannastvametena yathā kṣatriya bhāṣase। prakṛtyā hyupapanno'si buddhyā cādbhutadarśana ॥12-107-4॥
[उपपन्नः (upapannaḥ) - arisen; attained; त्वम् (tvam) - you; एतेन (etena) - by this; यथा (yathā) - as; like; क्षत्रिय (kṣatriya) - warrior; भाषसे (bhāṣase) - you speak; प्रकृत्या (prakṛtyā) - by nature; हि (hi) - indeed; उपपन्नः (upapannaḥ) - arisen; attained; असि (asi) - you are; बुद्ध्या (buddhyā) - by intellect; च (ca) - and; अद्भुतदर्शन (adbhutadarśana) - of wonderful vision;]
(Arisen you by this as a warrior you speak. By nature indeed arisen you are, by intellect and of wonderful vision.)
You speak as a warrior, having attained this state. By nature and intellect, you are indeed of wonderful vision.
उभयोरेव वामर्थे यतिष्ये तव तस्य च। संश्लेषं वा करिष्यामि शाश्वतं ह्यनपायिनम् ॥१२-१०७-५॥
ubhayoreva vāmarthe yatiṣye tava tasya ca। saṃśleṣaṃ vā kariṣyāmi śāśvataṃ hyanapāyinam ॥12-107-5॥
[उभयोः (ubhayoḥ) - of both; एव (eva) - indeed; वाम् (vām) - for you; अर्थे (arthe) - for the sake; यतिष्ये (yatiṣye) - I will strive; तव (tava) - for you; तस्य (tasya) - for him; च (ca) - and; संश्लेषं (saṃśleṣaṃ) - union; वा (vā) - or; करिष्यामि (kariṣyāmi) - I will make; शाश्वतम् (śāśvatam) - eternal; हि (hi) - indeed; अनपायिनम् (anapāyinam) - unfailing;]
(Of both indeed for the sake I will strive, for you and for him; union or I will make, eternal indeed unfailing.)
I will strive for the benefit of both you and him; or I will bring about a union that is eternal and unfailing.
त्वादृशं हि कुले जातमनृशंसं बहुश्रुतम्। अमात्यं को न कुर्वीत राज्यप्रणयकोविदम् ॥१२-१०७-६॥
tvādṛśaṃ hi kule jātamanṛśaṃsaṃ bahuśrutam। amātyaṃ ko na kurvīta rājyapraṇayakovidam ॥12-107-6॥
[त्वादृशम् (tvādṛśam) - like you; (of your kind; हि (hi) - indeed; कुले (kule) - in a family; जातम् (jātam) - born; अनृशंसम् (anṛśaṃsam) - compassionate; बहुश्रुतम् (bahuśrutam) - well-learned; अमात्यम् (amātyam) - minister; कः (kaḥ) - who; न (na) - not; कुर्वीत (kurvīta) - would appoint; राज्यप्रणयकोविदम् (rājyapraṇayakovidam) - skilled in the conduct of state; ॥१२-१०७-६॥ (॥12-107-6॥) - ;]
(Who indeed would not appoint as a minister, one like you, born in a noble family, compassionate, well-learned, skilled in the conduct of state?)
Who would not appoint as a minister someone like you, born in a noble family, compassionate, learned, and skilled in statecraft?
यस्त्वं प्रव्रजितो राज्याद्व्यसनं चोत्तमं गतः। आनृशंस्येन वृत्तेन क्षत्रियेच्छसि जीवितुम् ॥१२-१०७-७॥
yastvaṃ pravrajito rājyād vyasanaṃ cottamaṃ gataḥ। ānṛśaṃsyena vṛttena kṣatriyecchasi jīvitum ॥12-107-7॥
[यः (yaḥ) - who; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; प्रव्रजितः (pravrajitaḥ) - departed; राज्यात् (rājyāt) - from the kingdom; व्यसनम् (vyasanam) - misfortune; च (ca) - and; उत्तमम् (uttamam) - supreme; गतः (gataḥ) - attained; आनृशंस्येन (ānṛśaṃsyena) - by compassion; वृत्तेन (vṛttena) - by conduct; क्षत्रियेच्छसि (kṣatriyechchasi) - you wish (to act) as a kṣatriya; जीवितुम् (jīvitum) - to live;]
(Who, you, having departed from the kingdom, have attained the supreme misfortune; by compassionate conduct, you wish to live as a kṣatriya.)
You, who have left the kingdom and reached the greatest misfortune, now wish to live as a kṣatriya by following a path of compassion.
आगन्ता मद्गृहं तात वैदेहः सत्यसङ्गरः। यथाहं तं नियोक्ष्यामि तत्करिष्यत्यसंशयम् ॥१२-१०७-८॥
āgantā madgṛhaṃ tāta vaidehaḥ satyasaṅgaraḥ। yathāhaṃ taṃ niyokṣyāmi tatkariṣyatyasaṃśayam ॥12-107-8॥
[आगन्ता (āgantā) - he who will come; (from ā-√gam, to come) मद्गृहं (mad-gṛham) - my house; (mad - my, gṛham - house;) तात (tāta) - dear one; father; वैदेहः (vaidehaḥ) - the son of Videha; (epithet of Janaka;) सत्यसङ्गरः (satyasaṅgaraḥ) - one firm in truth; (satya - truth, saṅgara - steadfast;) यथा (yathā) - as; in the manner; अहम् (aham) - I; तम् (tam) - him; नियोक्ष्यामि (niyokṣyāmi) - I shall instruct; (ni-√yuj, to appoint, to instruct;) तत् (tat) - that; करिष्यति (kariṣyati) - he will do; (√kṛ, to do;) असंशयम् (asaṃśayam) - without doubt; (a - not, saṃśaya - doubt;);]
(He who will come to my house, dear one, the son of Videha, steadfast in truth—as I instruct him, that he will do, without doubt.)
O dear one, the son of Videha, who is steadfast in truth, will come to my house; whatever I instruct him, he will certainly do without any doubt.
भीष्म उवाच॥

Bhīṣma said.
तत आहूय वैदेहं मुनिर्वचनमब्रवीत्। अयं राजकुले जातो विदिताभ्यन्तरो मम ॥१२-१०७-९॥
tata āhūya vaidehaṃ munir vacanam abravīt। ayaṃ rājakule jāto viditābhyantaro mama ॥12-107-9॥
[तत् (tat) - then; आहूय (āhūya) - having called; वैदेहम् (vaideham) - Vaideha (Janaka); मुनिः (muniḥ) - the sage; वचनम् (vacanam) - words; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke; अयम् (ayam) - this; राजकुले (rājakule) - in the royal family; जातः (jātaḥ) - born; विदित (vidita) - known; अभ्यन्तरः (abhyantaraḥ) - inner (one); मम (mama) - to me;]
(Then, having called Vaideha, the sage spoke words: "This one, born in the royal family, is known as an inner (one) to me.")
Then, having summoned Vaideha, the sage said: "This person, born in the royal family, is known to me as an intimate."
आदर्श इव शुद्धात्मा शारदश्चन्द्रमा इव। नास्मिन्पश्यामि वृजिनं सर्वतो मे परीक्षितः ॥१२-१०७-१०॥
ādarśa iva śuddhātmā śāradaścandramā iva। nāsminpaśyāmi vṛjinaṃ sarvato me parīkṣitaḥ ॥12-107-10॥
[आदर्श (ādarśa) - mirror; इव (iva) - like; शुद्धात्मा (śuddhātmā) - pure-souled; शारद (śārada) - autumn; चन्द्रमा (candramā) - moon; इव (iva) - like; न (na) - not; अस्मिन् (asmin) - in this (person); पश्यामि (paśyāmi) - I see; वृजिनं (vṛjinaṃ) - sin; सर्वतः (sarvataḥ) - anywhere; मे (me) - by me; परीक्षितः (parīkṣitaḥ) - having been examined;]
(Like a mirror, pure-souled, like the autumn moon. In this (person), I do not see sin anywhere, having been examined by me.)
He is pure-souled like a mirror, like the autumn moon. I have examined him in every way and do not see any fault in him.
तेन ते सन्धिरेवास्तु विश्वसास्मिन्यथा मयि। न राज्यमनमात्येन शक्यं शास्तुममित्रहन् ॥१२-१०७-११॥
tena te sandhirevāstu viśvasāsmin yathā mayi। na rājyam an amātyena śakyaṃ śāstum amitrahan ॥12-107-11॥
[तेन (tena) - by that; by him; ते (te) - your; for you; सन्धिः (sandhiḥ) - alliance; agreement; एव (eva) - indeed; only; अस्तु (astu) - let it be; may it be; विश्वस (viśvasa) - trust; confidence; अस्मिन् (asmin) - in this; यथा (yathā) - as; just as; मयि (mayi) - in me; न (na) - not; राज्यम् (rājyam) - kingdom; rule; अनमात्येन (an-amātyena) - without a minister; शक्यम् (śakyam) - possible; able; शास्तुम् (śāstum) - to govern; to rule; अमित्रहन् (amitrahan) - destroyer of enemies;]
(By that, let there indeed be alliance for you, trust in this as in me. The kingdom cannot be governed without a minister, O destroyer of enemies.)
Therefore, let there be an alliance for you, with trust in this as in me. A kingdom cannot be ruled without a minister, O destroyer of enemies.
अमात्यः शूर एव स्याद्बुद्धिसम्पन्न एव च। ताभ्यां चैव भयं राज्ञः पश्य राज्यस्य योजनम् ॥ धर्मात्मनां क्वचिल्लोके नान्यास्ति गतिरीदृशी ॥१२-१०७-१२॥
amātyaḥ śūra eva syādbuddhisampanna eva ca। tābhyāṃ caiva bhayaṃ rājñaḥ paśya rājyasya yojanam ॥ dharmātmanāṃ kvacilloke nānyāsti gatirīdṛśī ॥12-107-12॥
[अमात्यः (amātyaḥ) - minister; शूरः (śūraḥ) - brave; एव (eva) - indeed; स्यात् (syāt) - should be; बुद्धिसम्पन्नः (buddhisampannaḥ) - endowed with intelligence; एव (eva) - indeed; च (ca) - and; ताभ्यां (tābhyām) - by both (qualities); च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; भयम् (bhayam) - danger; राज्ञः (rājñaḥ) - of the king; पश्य (paśya) - see; राज्यस्य (rājyasya) - of the kingdom; योजनम् (yojanam) - arrangement; धर्मात्मनाम् (dharmātmanām) - of the righteous; क्वचित् (kvacit) - anywhere; लोके (loke) - in the world; न (na) - not; अन्या (anyā) - other; अस्ति (asti) - exists; गतिः (gatiḥ) - path; ईदृशी (īdṛśī) - such as this;]
(The minister should indeed be brave and endowed with intelligence; by both these, indeed, see the danger to the king and the arrangement of the kingdom. For the righteous, nowhere in the world does any other path such as this exist.)
A minister must be both brave and intelligent; through these qualities, he perceives dangers to the king and manages the kingdom. For the righteous, there is no other path like this anywhere in the world.
कृतात्मा राजपुत्रोऽयं सतां मार्गमनुष्ठितः। सुसङ्गृहीतस्त्वेवैष त्वया धर्मपुरोगमः ॥ संसेव्यमानः शत्रूंस्ते गृह्णीयान्महतो गणान् ॥१२-१०७-१३॥
kṛtātmā rājaputro'yaṃ satāṃ mārgam anuṣṭhitaḥ। susaṅgṛhītastvevaiṣa tvayā dharmapurogamaḥ॥ saṃsevyamānaḥ śatrūṃste gṛhṇīyānmahato gaṇān॥12-107-13॥
[कृतात्मा (kṛtātmā) - one who has mastered himself; राजपुत्रः (rājaputraḥ) - prince; अयम् (ayam) - this; सताम् (satām) - of the virtuous; मार्गम् (mārgam) - path; अनुष्ठितः (anuṣṭhitaḥ) - practiced; सुसङ्गृहीतः (susaṅgṛhītaḥ) - well-collected; त्व (tva) - indeed; एव (eva) - only; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; धर्मपुरोगमः (dharmapurogamaḥ) - preceded by dharma; संसेव्यमानः (saṃsevyamānaḥ) - being served; शत्रून् (śatrūn) - enemies; ते (te) - your; गृह्णीयात् (gṛhṇīyāt) - should conquer; महतः (mahataḥ) - great; गणान् (gaṇān) - hosts;]
(One who has mastered himself, this prince, having practiced the path of the virtuous, being well-collected and indeed only by you, preceded by dharma, being served, should conquer your enemies, great hosts.)
This prince, who has mastered himself and follows the path of the virtuous, being well-collected and guided by dharma by you, should, when served, conquer your great hosts of enemies.
यद्ययं प्रतियुध्येत्त्वां स्वकर्म क्षत्रियस्य तत्। जिगीषमाणस्त्वां युद्धे पितृपैतामहे पदे ॥१२-१०७-१४॥
yadyayaṃ pratiyudhyet tvāṃ svakarma kṣatriyasya tat। jigīṣamāṇas tvāṃ yuddhe pitṛpaitāmahe pade ॥12-107-14॥
[यदि (yadi) - if; अयम् (ayam) - this; प्रतियुध्येत् (pratiyudhyet) - would fight against; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; स्वकर्म (svakarma) - own duty; क्षत्रियस्य (kṣatriyasya) - of a kṣatriya; तत् (tat) - that; जिगीषमाणः (jigīṣamāṇaḥ) - desiring to conquer; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; युद्धे (yuddhe) - in battle; पितृपैतामहे (pitṛpaitāmahe) - ancestral; पदे (pade) - position;]
(If this (person), desiring to conquer, would fight against you in battle for the ancestral position, that is the own duty of a kṣatriya.)
If this person, wishing to conquer, fights you in battle for the ancestral position, that is the proper duty of a kṣatriya.
त्वं चापि प्रतियुध्येथा विजिगीषुव्रते स्थितः। अयुद्ध्वैव नियोगान्मे वशे वैदेह ते स्थितः ॥१२-१०७-१५॥
tvaṃ cāpi pratiyudhyethā vijigīṣuvrate sthitaḥ। ayuddhvaiva niyogānme vaśe vaideha te sthitaḥ॥12-107-15॥
[त्वम् (tvam) - you; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; प्रतियुध्येथा (pratiyudhyethā) - should fight back; विजिगीषु-व्रते (vijigīṣu-vrate) - in the vow of wishing to conquer; स्थितः (sthitaḥ) - situated; अयुद्ध्वा (ayuddhvā) - without fighting; एव (eva) - indeed; नियोगात् (niyogāt) - by command; मे (me) - my; वशे (vaśe) - under control; वैदेह (vaideha) - O Vaideha; ते (te) - your; स्थितः (sthitaḥ) - positioned;]
(You also, being situated in the vow of wishing to conquer, should fight back. O Vaideha, even without fighting, by my command, you are under my control, your position is established.)
You too, established in the resolve to conquer, should fight back. O Vaideha, even without fighting, by my command, you are under my authority and your position is secure.
स त्वं धर्ममवेक्षस्व त्यक्त्वाधर्ममसाम्प्रतम्। न हि कामान्न च द्रोहात्स्वधर्मं हातुमर्हसि ॥१२-१०७-१६॥
sa tvaṃ dharmam avekṣasva tyaktvā adharmaṃ asāmpratam। na hi kāmāt na ca drohāt svadharmam hātum arhasi ॥12-107-16॥
[स (sa) - he; त्वम् (tvam) - you; धर्मम् (dharmam) - dharma; अवेक्षस्व (avekṣasva) - consider; त्यक्त्वा (tyaktvā) - having abandoned; अधर्मम् (adharmam) - adharma; असाम्प्रतम् (asāmpratam) - not appropriate at this time; न (na) - not; हि (hi) - indeed; कामात् (kāmāt) - from desire; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; द्रोहात् (drohāt) - from hostility; स्वधर्मम् (svadharmam) - one's own dharma; हातुम् (hātum) - to abandon; अर्हसि (arhasi) - you ought;]
(He, you consider dharma, having abandoned adharma not appropriate at this time. Indeed, not from desire nor from hostility ought you to abandon your own dharma.)
Therefore, you should consider what is dharma, having set aside adharma that is not appropriate now. Indeed, you should not abandon your own dharma either out of desire or out of hostility.
नैव नित्यं जयस्तात नैव नित्यं पराजयः। तस्माद्भोजयितव्यश्च भोक्तव्यश्च परो जनः ॥१२-१०७-१७॥
naiva nityaṃ jayastāta naiva nityaṃ parājayaḥ। tasmādbhōjayitavyaśca bhōktavyaśca parō janaḥ ॥12-107-17॥
[न (na) - not; एव (eva) - indeed; नित्यं (nityaṃ) - always; जयः (jayaḥ) - victory; तात (tāta) - dear one; न (na) - not; एव (eva) - indeed; नित्यं (nityaṃ) - always; पराजयः (parājayaḥ) - defeat; तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; भोजयितव्यः (bhōjayitavyaḥ) - should be fed; च (ca) - and; भोक्तव्यः (bhōktavyaḥ) - should be eaten; च (ca) - and; परः (paraḥ) - other; जनः (janaḥ) - person;]
(Not indeed always victory, dear one, not indeed always defeat; therefore, should be fed and should be eaten the other person.)
O dear one, victory is not always certain, nor is defeat always certain; therefore, one should both feed and accept food from others.
आत्मन्येव हि संदृश्यावुभौ जयपराजयौ। निःशेषकारिणां तात निःशेषकरणाद्भयम् ॥१२-१०७-१८॥
ātman-yeva hi sandṛśyāvubhau jaya-parājayau। niḥśeṣakāriṇāṃ tāta niḥśeṣakaraṇād-bhayam ॥12-107-18॥
[आत्मनि (ātmani) - in the self; एव (eva) - indeed; हि (hi) - for; संदृश्यौ (sandṛśyau) - are seen; उभौ (ubhau) - both; जय (jaya) - victory; पराजयौ (parājayau) - and defeat; निःशेषकारिणां (niḥśeṣakāriṇāṃ) - of those who act without remainder; तात (tāta) - O dear one; निःशेषकरणात् (niḥśeṣakaraṇāt) - from complete accomplishment; भयम् (bhayam) - fear;]
(Indeed, in the self alone, both victory and defeat are seen; O dear one, for those who act without remainder, fear arises from complete accomplishment.)
O dear one, both victory and defeat are perceived only within oneself; for those who act without leaving anything undone, fear arises from the very act of complete accomplishment.
इत्युक्तः प्रत्युवाचेदं वचनं ब्राह्मणर्षभम्। अभिपूज्याभिसत्कृत्य पूजार्हमनुमान्य च ॥१२-१०७-१९॥
ityuktaḥ pratyuvācedaṃ vacanaṃ brāhmaṇarṣabham। abhipūjyābhisatkṛtya pūjārhamanumānya ca ॥12-107-19॥
[इति (iti) - thus; उक्तः (uktaḥ) - having been spoken; प्रत्युवाच (pratyuvāca) - replied; इदं (idaṃ) - this; वचनं (vacanam) - speech; ब्राह्मणर्षभम् (brāhmaṇarṣabham) - the foremost among Brāhmaṇas; अभिपूज्य (abhipūjya) - having duly honored; अभिसत्कृत्य (abhisatkṛtya) - having respectfully received; पूजार्हम् (pūjārham) - worthy of worship; अनुमान्य (anumānya) - having been permitted; च (ca) - and;]
(Thus having been spoken, he replied this speech to the foremost among Brāhmaṇas, having duly honored, having respectfully received, having considered as worthy of worship, and having been permitted.)
Thus addressed, he respectfully honored and received the foremost among Brāhmaṇas, considered him worthy of worship, and, having been permitted, replied with these words.
यथा ब्रूयान्महाप्राज्ञो यथा ब्रूयाद्बहुश्रुतः। श्रेयस्कामो यथा ब्रूयादुभयोर्यत्क्षमं भवेत् ॥१२-१०७-२०॥
yathā brūyān mahāprājño yathā brūyād bahuśrutaḥ। śreyaskāmo yathā brūyād ubhayor yat kṣamaṃ bhavet॥12-107-20॥

One should speak in the manner that a great wise person, a learned one, and one seeking welfare would speak—whatever is appropriate for both parties.
तथा वचनमुक्तोऽस्मि करिष्यामि च तत्तथा। एतद्धि परमं श्रेयो न मेऽत्रास्ति विचारणा ॥१२-१०७-२१॥
tathā vacanamukto'smi kariṣyāmi ca tattathā। etaddhi paramaṃ śreyo na me'trāsti vicāraṇā ॥12-107-21॥

(Thus, having been addressed, I shall do that thus. This indeed is the supreme good; for me here there is no deliberation.)

ततः कौशल्यमाहूय वैदेहो वाक्यमब्रवीत्। धर्मतो नीतितश्चैव बलेन च जितो मया ॥१२-१०७-२२॥

so'ham tvayā tvātmaguṇairjitaḥ pārthivasattama। ātmānam anavajñāya jitavad vartatāṃ bhavān ॥12-107-23॥

O best of kings, I have been conquered by you through your own qualities. You should conduct yourself as one who has conquered himself, without disregarding the self.
नावमन्ये च ते बुद्धिं नावमन्ये च पौरुषम्। नावमन्ये जयामीति जितवद्वर्ततां भवान् ॥१२-१०७-२४॥
nāvamanye ca te buddhiṃ nāvamanye ca pauruṣam। nāvamanye jayāmīti jitavad vartatāṃ bhavān ॥12-107-24॥
[न (na) - not; अवमन्ये (avamanye) - I disregard; च (ca) - and; ते (te) - your; बुद्धिं (buddhiṃ) - intellect; न (na) - not; अवमन्ये (avamanye) - I disregard; च (ca) - and; पौरुषम् (pauruṣam) - manliness; न (na) - not; अवमन्ये (avamanye) - I disregard; जयामि (jayāmi) - I conquer; इति (iti) - thus; जितवत् (jitavat) - as if victorious; वर्तताम् (vartatām) - let him behave; भवान् (bhavān) - yourself;]
(Not I disregard and your intellect, not I disregard and manliness. Not I disregard (that) 'I conquer', thus, as if victorious let yourself behave.)
I do not disregard your intellect, nor do I disregard your manliness. Do not think that I disregard the idea of 'I conquer'; let yourself act as one who is already victorious.
यथावत्पूजितो राजन्गृहं गन्तासि मे गृहात्। ततः सम्पूज्य तौ विप्रं विश्वस्तौ जग्मतुर्गृहान् ॥१२-१०७-२५॥
yathāvatpūjito rājan gṛhaṃ gantāsi me gṛhāt। tataḥ sampūjya tau vipraṃ viśvastau jagmatur gṛhān ॥12-107-25॥
