एवं शुनासमान्भृत्यान्स्वस्थाने यो नराधिपः। नियोजयति कृत्येषु स राज्यफलमश्नुते ॥१२-११९-१॥
evaṃ śunāsamānbhṛtyānsvasthāne yo narādhipaḥ। niyojayati kṛtyeṣu sa rājyaphalamaśnute ॥12-119-1॥

स्वजातिकुलसम्पन्नाः स्वेषु कर्मस्ववस्थिताः। प्रकर्तव्या बुधा भृत्या नास्थाने प्रक्रिया क्षमा ॥१२-११९-३॥
svajāti-kula-sampannāḥ sveṣu karmasu avasthitāḥ। prakartavyā budhā bhṛtyā nāsthāne prakriyā kṣamā ॥12-119-3॥

शरभः शरभस्थाने सिंहः सिंह इवोर्जितः। व्याघ्रो व्याघ्र इव स्थाप्यो द्वीपी द्वीपी यथा तथा ॥१२-११९-५॥

(Subdued, devoted to that, forbearing, and pure, born of nature, auspicious, in their own respective places, not far removed, they may be the king's external agents.)

yastu siṃhaḥ śvabhiḥ kīrṇaḥ siṃhakarmaphale rataḥ। na sa siṃhaphalaṃ bhoktuṃ śaktaḥ śvabhirupāsitaḥ॥12-119-12॥

(But the lion who is surrounded by dogs, though engaged in the fruit of lion's action, he is not able to enjoy the lion's fruit, being attended by dogs.)

(Not unlearned, not crooked at the side, not ignorant, not very wealthy is to be accepted by kings; a servant is the best among those who have servants.)

bāṇavad-visṛtā yānti svāmi-kārya-parā janāḥ। ye bhṛtyāḥ pārthiva-hitās-teṣāṃ sāntvaṃ prayojayet ॥12-119-15॥
[बाणवत् (bāṇavat) - like an arrow; विसृता (visṛtāḥ) - sent forth; यान्ति (yānti) - go; स्वामि (svāmi) - master; कार्य (kārya) - work; परा (parāḥ) - devoted; जनाः (janāḥ) - people; ये (ye) - who; भृत्याः (bhṛtyāḥ) - servants; पार्थिव (pārthiva) - king; हिताः (hitāḥ) - well-wishers; तेषाम् (teṣām) - to them; सान्त्वम् (sāntvam) - conciliation; प्रयोजयेत् (prayojayet) - should employ;]
(Like arrows sent forth, people devoted to the master's work go. Those servants who are well-wishers of the king, to them conciliation should be employed.)

(The treasury, indeed, must always be protected with effort by kings; for kings are rooted in the treasury; be one who makes the treasury the root.)
