तस्य शिष्यो बभूवाग्र्यो राजोपरिचरो वसुः। अधीतवांस्तदा शास्त्रं सम्यक्चित्रशिखण्डिजम् ॥३-३२३-३॥

उवाच चोपरिचरं मया भागोऽयमुद्यतः। ग्राह्यः स्वयं हि देवेन मत्प्रत्यक्षं न संशयः ॥३-३२३-१४॥

Uparicara said: "This portion offered by me is to be accepted by the god himself, directly from me—there is no doubt about it." (3-323-14)
उद्यता यज्ञभागा हि साक्षात्प्राप्ताः सुरैरिह। किमर्थमिह न प्राप्तो दर्शनं स हरिर्विभुः ॥३-३२३-१५॥
udyatā yajñabhāgā hi sākṣātprāptāḥ surairiha। kimarthamiha na prāpto darśanaṃ sa harirvibhuḥ॥3-323-15॥

ततः स तं समुद्धूतं भूमिपालो महान्वसुः। प्रसादयामास मुनिं सदस्यास्ते च सर्वशः ॥३-३२३-१६॥
tataḥ sa taṃ samuddhūtaṃ bhūmipālo mahānvasuḥ। prasādayāmāsa muniṃ sadasyāste ca sarvaśaḥ ॥3-323-16॥

ऊचुश्चैनमसम्भ्रान्ता न रोषं कर्तुमर्हसि। नैष धर्मः कृतयुगे यस्त्वं रोषमचीकृथाः ॥३-३२३-१७॥
ūcuś cainam asambhrāntā na roṣaṃ kartum arhasi. naiṣa dharmaḥ kṛtayuge yas tvaṃ roṣam acīkṛthāḥ ॥3-323-17॥

(They said and to him unagitated, not anger to do you ought. Not this duty in the Krita Yuga which you anger did.)
They, unagitated, said to him: "You ought not to become angry. This is not the duty in the Krita Yuga, that you have become angry." (3-323-17)
अरोषणो ह्यसौ देवो यस्य भागोऽयमुद्यतः। न स शक्यस्त्वया द्रष्टुमस्माभिर्वा बृहस्पते ॥ यस्य प्रसादं कुरुते स वै तं द्रष्टुमर्हति ॥३-३२३-१८॥
aroṣaṇo hyasau devo yasya bhāgo'yamudyataḥ। na sa śakyastvayā draṣṭumasmābhirvā bṛhaspate ॥ yasya prasādaṃ kurute sa vai taṃ draṣṭumarhati ॥3-323-18॥

(Not-angry indeed that god whose portion this has risen. Not he is possible by you to see or by us, O Bṛhaspati. Whose favor he does, he indeed is worthy to see him. (3-323-18))
That god, who is not angry, whose portion this is that has arisen, cannot be seen by you or by us, O Bṛhaspati. He whom that god favors, he alone is truly worthy to see him. (3-323-18)
एकतद्वितत्रिता ऊचुः॥

[एक (eka) - one; तद् (tad) - that; द्वि (dvi) - two; त्रि (tri) - three; ता (tā) - they (feminine plural); ऊचुः (ūcuḥ) - said;]

The ones called one, that, two, and three said this.
वयं हि ब्रह्मणः पुत्रा मानसाः परिकीर्तिताः। गता निःश्रेयसार्थं हि कदाचिद्दिशमुत्तराम् ॥३-३२३-१९॥
vayaṃ hi brahmaṇaḥ putrā mānasāḥ parikīrtitāḥ। gatā niḥśreyasārthaṃ hi kadācid diśam uttarām ॥3-323-19॥

(We indeed of Brahman sons mind-born proclaimed; gone for the purpose of supreme good indeed at some time direction northern;)
We, indeed, are mind-born sons of Brahman, as proclaimed; at some time, for the purpose of supreme good, we went to the northern direction. (3-323-19)
तप्त्वा वर्षसहस्राणि चत्वारि तप उत्तमम्। एकपादस्थिताः सम्यक्काष्ठभूताः समाहिताः ॥३-३२३-२०॥
taptvā varṣasahasrāṇi catvāri tapa uttamam। ekapādasthitāḥ samyak kāṣṭhabhūtāḥ samāhitāḥ ॥3-323-20॥

(Having performed supreme austerity for four thousand years, standing on one foot, properly, having become like wood, concentrated.)

मेरोरुत्तरभागे तु क्षीरोदस्यानुकूलतः। स देशो यत्र नस्तप्तं तपः परमदारुणम् ॥ कथं पश्येमहि वयं देवं नारायणं त्विति ॥३-३२३-२१॥
meror uttarabhāge tu kṣīrodasyānukūlataḥ। sa deśo yatra nas taptaṃ tapaḥ paramadāruṇam ॥ kathaṃ paśyemahi vayaṃ devaṃ nārāyaṇaṃ tv iti ॥3-323-21॥
[मेरोः (meroḥ) - of Meru; उत्तरभागे (uttarabhāge) - in the northern part; तु (tu) - but; क्षीरोदस्य (kṣīrodasya) - of the Kṣīroda (Milk Ocean); अनुकूलतः (anukūlataḥ) - towards; in the direction of; स (sa) - that; देशः (deśaḥ) - region; यत्र (yatra) - where; नः (naḥ) - our; तप्तं (taptaṃ) - performed; तपः (tapaḥ) - austerity; परम (parama) - supreme; दारुणम् (dāruṇam) - severe; कथम् (katham) - how; पश्येमहि (paśyemahi) - may we see; वयम् (vayam) - we; देवम् (devam) - the god; नारायणम् (nārāyaṇam) - Nārāyaṇa; त्व् (tv) - you; इति (iti) - thus;]
(But in the northern part of Meru, towards the Kṣīroda (Milk Ocean), that region where our supreme severe austerity was performed. How may we see the god Nārāyaṇa, you, thus.)
But in the northern part of Meru, towards the Milk Ocean, is that region where we performed our most severe austerity. How may we see the god Nārāyaṇa, you, thus. (3-323-21)
ततो व्रतस्यावभृथे वागुवाचाशरीरिणी। सुतप्तं वस्तपो विप्राः प्रसन्नेनान्तरात्मना ॥३-३२३-२२॥
tato vratasyāvabhṛthe vāguvācaaśarīriṇī। sutaptaṃ vastapo viprāḥ prasannenāntarātmanā ॥3-323-22॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; व्रतस्य (vratasya) - of the vow; आवभृथे (āvabhṛthe) - at the avabhṛtha (concluding bath); वाक् (vāk) - speech; उवाच (uvāca) - spoke; अशरीरिणी (aśarīriṇī) - bodiless; सुतप्तम् (sutaptam) - well-heated; वः (vaḥ) - your; तपः (tapaḥ) - austerity; विप्राः (viprāḥ) - Brāhmaṇas; प्रसन्नेन (prasannena) - with clear; अन्तरात्मना (antarātmanā) - inner self;]
(Then, at the avabhṛtha of the vow, speech, bodiless, spoke: "Well-heated is your austerity, Brāhmaṇas, with clear inner self.")
Then, at the concluding bath of the vow, a bodiless voice spoke: "O Brāhmaṇas, your austerity is well-performed with a pure heart." (3-323-22)
यूयं जिज्ञासवो भक्ताः कथं द्रक्ष्यथ तं प्रभुम्। क्षीरोदधेरुत्तरतः श्वेतद्वीपो महाप्रभः ॥३-३२३-२३॥
yūyaṃ jijñāsavo bhaktāḥ kathaṃ drakṣyatha taṃ prabhum। kṣīrodadheruttarataḥ śvetadvīpo mahāprabhaḥ ॥3-323-23॥
[यूयं (yūyam) - you (plural); जिज्ञासवः (jijñāsavaḥ) - desirous to know; भक्ताः (bhaktāḥ) - devotees; कथम् (katham) - how; द्रक्ष्यथ (drakṣyatha) - will see; तं (taṃ) - that; प्रभुम् (prabhum) - Lord; क्षीरोदधेः (kṣīrodadheḥ) - of the ocean of milk; उत्तरतः (uttarataḥ) - to the north; श्वेतद्वीपः (śvetadvīpaḥ) - Śvetadvīpa (the White Island); महाप्रभः (mahāprabhaḥ) - greatly radiant;]
(You, desirous to know, devotees, how will see that Lord? Of the ocean of milk, to the north, Śvetadvīpa, greatly radiant.)
You devotees, eager to know, how will you see that Lord? To the north of the ocean of milk is Śvetadvīpa, the greatly radiant one. (3-323-23)
तत्र नारायणपरा मानवाश्चन्द्रवर्चसः। एकान्तभावोपगतास्ते भक्ताः पुरुषोत्तमम् ॥३-३२३-२४॥
tatra nārāyaṇaparā mānavāścandravarcasaḥ। ekāntabhāvopagatāste bhaktāḥ puruṣottamam ॥3-323-24॥
[तत्र (tatra) - there; नारायणपरा (nārāyaṇaparā) - devoted to Nārāyaṇa; मानवाः (mānavāḥ) - humans; चन्द्रवर्चसः (candravarcasaḥ) - having the luster of the moon; एकान्तभावोपगताः (ekāntabhāvopagatāḥ) - attained single-minded devotion; ते (te) - they; भक्ताः (bhaktāḥ) - devotees; पुरुषोत्तमम् (puruṣottamam) - the Supreme Person;]
(There, devoted to Nārāyaṇa, humans with the luster of the moon, having attained single-minded devotion, they, devotees, (worship) the Supreme Person.)
There, humans devoted to Nārāyaṇa, shining with the radiance of the moon, having attained single-minded devotion, are the devotees who worship the Supreme Person. (3-323-24)
ते सहस्रार्चिषं देवं प्रविशन्ति सनातनम्। अतीन्द्रिया निराहारा अनिष्पन्दाः सुगन्धिनः ॥३-३२३-२५॥
te sahasrārciṣaṃ devaṃ praviśanti sanātanam। atīndriyā nirāhārā aniṣpandāḥ sugandhinaḥ ॥3-323-25॥
[ते (te) - they; सहस्रार्चिषम् (sahasrārciṣam) - of thousand flames; देवम् (devam) - divine being; प्रविशन्ति (praviśanti) - enter; सनातनम् (sanātanam) - eternal; अतीन्द्रियाः (atīndriyāḥ) - beyond the senses; निराहाराः (nirāhārāḥ) - without food; अनिष्पन्दाः (aniṣpandāḥ) - motionless; सुगन्धिनः (sugandhinaḥ) - fragrant;]
(They of thousand flames divine being enter eternal; beyond the senses; without food; motionless; fragrant;)
They, being of a thousand flames, enter the eternal divine being; they are beyond the senses, without food, motionless, and fragrant. (3-323-25)
एकान्तिनस्ते पुरुषाः श्वेतद्वीपनिवासिनः। गच्छध्वं तत्र मुनयस्तत्रात्मा मे प्रकाशितः ॥३-३२३-२६॥
ekāntinaste puruṣāḥ śvetadvīpanivāsinaḥ। gacchadhvaṃ tatra munayastatrātmā me prakāśitaḥ ॥3-323-26॥

(Devoted exclusively those men Śvetadvīpa inhabitants go there sages there self my manifested.)
Those men who are exclusively devoted, the inhabitants of Śvetadvīpa, go there; there, sages, my self is manifested. (3-323-26)
अथ श्रुत्वा वयं सर्वे वाचं तामशरीरिणीम्। यथाख्यातेन मार्गेण तं देशं प्रतिपेदिरे ॥३-३२३-२७॥
atha śrutvā vayaṃ sarve vācaṃ tāmaśarīriṇīm। yathākhyātena mārgeṇa taṃ deśaṃ pratipedire ॥3-323-27॥
[अथ (atha) - then; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; वयम् (vayam) - we; सर्वे (sarve) - all; वाचम् (vācam) - speech; ताम् (tām) - that; अशरीरिणीम् (aśarīriṇīm) - bodiless; यथा (yathā) - as; आख्यातेन (ākhyātena) - declared; मार्गेण (mārgeṇa) - by the path; तम् (tam) - that; देशम् (deśam) - region; प्रतिपेदिरे (pratipedire) - they proceeded;]
(Then, having heard, we all (heard) that bodiless speech; by the path as declared, they proceeded to that region.)
Then, having heard that bodiless voice, we all proceeded to that region by the path that was described. (3-323-27)
प्राप्य श्वेतं महाद्वीपं तच्चित्तास्तद्दिदृक्षवः। ततो नो दृष्टिविषयस्तदा प्रतिहतोऽभवत् ॥३-३२३-२८॥
prāpya śvetaṃ mahādvīpaṃ taccittās taddidṛkṣavaḥ। tato no dṛṣṭiviṣayas tadā pratihato'bhavat ॥3-323-28॥
[प्राप्य (prāpya) - having attained; श्वेतं (śvetam) - white; महाद्वीपं (mahādvīpam) - great continent; तत्-चित्ताः (tat-cittāḥ) - their minds (being); तत्-दिदृक्षवः (tat-didṛkṣavaḥ) - desiring to see that; ततः (tataḥ) - from there; नः (naḥ) - our; दृष्टि-विषयः (dṛṣṭi-viṣayaḥ) - object of sight; तदा (tadā) - then; प्रतिहतः (pratihataḥ) - obstructed; अभवत् (abhavat) - became;]
(Having attained the white great continent, their minds being desirous to see that; from there, our object of sight then became obstructed.)
After reaching the white great continent, with our minds intent on seeing it, our sight was then obstructed from there. (3-323-28)
न च पश्याम पुरुषं तत्तेजोहृतदर्शनाः। ततो नः प्रादुरभवद्विज्ञानं देवयोगजम् ॥३-३२३-२९॥
na ca paśyāma puruṣaṃ tat-tejo-hṛta-darśanāḥ। tato naḥ prādurabhavad-vijñānaṃ deva-yoga-jam ॥3-323-29॥
[न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; पश्याम (paśyāma) - we see; पुरुषं (puruṣam) - man; तत् (tat) - that; तेजः (tejaḥ) - splendor; हृत (hṛta) - taken away; दर्शनाः (darśanāḥ) - sight; ततः (tataḥ) - then; नः (naḥ) - our; प्रादुरभवत् (prādurabhavat) - arose; विज्ञानं (vijñānam) - knowledge; देव (deva) - divine; योगजम् (yogajam) - born of union;]
(Not and we see man; that splendor taken away sight; then our arose knowledge divine born of union;)
And we do not see the man, our sight having been deprived of that splendor; then there arose in us a knowledge born of divine union. (3-323-29)
न किलातप्ततपसा शक्यते द्रष्टुमञ्जसा। ततः पुनर्वर्षशतं तप्त्वा तात्कालिकं महत् ॥३-३२३-३०॥
na kilātaptatapasā śakyate draṣṭumañjasā। tataḥ punarvarṣaśataṃ taptvā tāt kālikaṃ mahat ॥3-323-30॥
[न (na) - not; किल (kila) - indeed; अतप्ततपसा (ataptatapasā) - by one whose austerity is not heated; शक्यते (śakyate) - is possible; द्रष्टुम् (draṣṭum) - to see; अञ्जसा (añjasā) - easily; ततः (tataḥ) - therefore; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; वर्षशतम् (varṣaśatam) - a hundred years; तप्त्वा (taptvā) - having performed austerity; तात्कालिकम् (tāt kālikam) - immediate; महत् (mahat) - great;]
(Not indeed by one whose austerity is not heated is it possible to see easily. Therefore, again, having performed austerity for a hundred years, (the) immediate great (result).)
It is indeed not possible for one whose austerity is not intense to see (this) easily. Therefore, after performing austerity again for a hundred years, (one attains) the immediate great result. (3-323-30)
व्रतावसाने सुशुभान्नरान्ददृशिरे वयम्। श्वेतांश्चन्द्रप्रतीकाशान्सर्वलक्षणलक्षितान् ॥३-३२३-३१॥
vratāvasāne suśubhān narān dadṛśire vayam। śvetāṁś candrapratīkāśān sarvalakṣaṇalakṣitān ॥3-323-31॥
[व्रतावसाने (vratāvasāne) - at the end of the vow; सुशुभान् (suśubhān) - very beautiful; नरान् (narān) - men; ददृशिरे (dadṛśire) - we saw; वयम् (vayam) - we; श्वेतान् (śvetān) - white; चन्द्रप्रतीकाशान् (candrapratīkāśān) - moon-like in appearance; सर्वलक्षणलक्षितान् (sarvalakṣaṇalakṣitān) - endowed with all auspicious marks;]
(At the end of the vow, we saw very beautiful men; white, moon-like in appearance, endowed with all auspicious marks.)
At the conclusion of the vow, we saw very handsome men, white and shining like the moon, marked with all auspicious signs. (3-323-31)
नित्याञ्जलिकृतान्ब्रह्म जपतः प्रागुदङ्मुखान्। मानसो नाम स जपो जप्यते तैर्महात्मभिः ॥ तेनैकाग्रमनस्त्वेन प्रीतो भवति वै हरिः ॥३-३२३-३२॥
nityāñjalikṛtānbrahma japataḥ prāgudaṅmukhān। mānaso nāma sa japo japyate tairmahātmabhiḥ ॥ tenaikāgramanastvena prīto bhavati vai hariḥ ॥3-323-32॥
[नित्य (nitya) - eternal; अञ्जलिकृतान् (añjalikṛtān) - with hands joined in reverence; ब्रह्म (brahma) - Brahman; जपतः (japataḥ) - reciting; प्राक् (prāk) - eastward; उदङ्मुखान् (udaṅmukhān) - facing north; मानसः (mānasaḥ) - mental; नाम (nāma) - named; सः (saḥ) - that; जपः (japaḥ) - recitation; जप्यते (japyate) - is recited; तैः (taiḥ) - by those; महात्मभिः (mahātmabhiḥ) - by great souls; तेन (tena) - by that; एकाग्रमनस्त्वेन (ekāgramanastvena) - with one-pointed mind; प्रीतः (prītaḥ) - pleased; भवति (bhavati) - becomes; वै (vai) - indeed; हरिः (hariḥ) - Hari;]
(Eternal with hands joined in reverence Brahman reciting eastward facing north; mental named that recitation is recited by those great souls; by that with one-pointed mind pleased becomes indeed Hari; (3-323-32))
Those who always recite Brahman with joined hands, facing east or north, perform what is called mental recitation; this is practiced by those great souls. By that, with a one-pointed mind, Hari indeed becomes pleased. (3-323-32)
या भवेन्मुनिशार्दूल भाः सूर्यस्य युगक्षये। एकैकस्य प्रभा तादृक्साभवन्मानवस्य ह ॥३-३२३-३३॥
yā bhaven muniśārdūla bhāḥ sūryasya yugakṣaye। ekaikasya prabhā tādṛk sā bhaven mānavasya ha ॥3-323-33॥
[या (yā) - which; (feminine singular nominative); भवेत् (bhavet) - would be; (third person singular optative); मुनिशार्दूल (muniśārdūla) - O best of sages; (vocative); भाः (bhāḥ) - light; radiance; (nominative singular); सूर्यस्य (sūryasya) - of the sun; (genitive singular); युगक्षये (yugakṣaye) - at the end of an age; (locative singular); एकैकस्य (ekaikasya) - of each one; (genitive singular); प्रभा (prabhā) - light; radiance; (nominative singular); तादृक् (tādṛk) - such; of that kind; (adjective); सा (sā) - she; that; (feminine singular nominative); भवेत् (bhavet) - would be; (third person singular optative); मानवस्य (mānavasya) - of a man; (genitive singular); ह (ha) - indeed; surely; (particle);]
(Which would be, O best of sages, the light of the sun at the end of an age, the light of each one would be such, that would be of a man indeed.)
O best of sages, the light that is of the sun at the end of an age, such would be the light of each man. (3-323-33)
तेजोनिवासः स द्वीप इति वै मेनिरे वयम्। न तत्राभ्यधिकः कश्चित्सर्वे ते समतेजसः ॥३-३२३-३४॥
tejonivāsaḥ sa dvīpa iti vai menire vayam। na tatrābhyadhikaḥ kaścit sarve te samatejasaḥ ॥3-323-34॥
[तेजोनिवासः (tejonivāsaḥ) - abode of brilliance; स (sa) - that; द्वीप (dvīpa) - island; इति (iti) - thus; वै (vai) - indeed; मेनिरे (menire) - we considered; वयम् (vayam) - we; न (na) - not; तत्र (tatra) - there; अभ्यधिकः (abhyadhikaḥ) - superior; कश्चित् (kaścit) - anyone; सर्वे (sarve) - all; ते (te) - they; समतेजसः (samatejasaḥ) - equal in brilliance;]
(abode of brilliance; that island thus indeed we considered; we; not there superior anyone; all they equal in brilliance;)
We considered that island as the abode of brilliance; there, no one was superior, all of them were equal in brilliance. (3-323-34)
अथ सूर्यसहस्रस्य प्रभां युगपदुत्थिताम्। सहसा दृष्टवन्तः स्म पुनरेव बृहस्पते ॥३-३२३-३५॥
atha sūryasahasrasya prabhāṃ yugapadutthitām। sahasā dṛṣṭavantaḥ sma punareva bṛhaspate ॥3-323-35॥
[अथ (atha) - then; सूर्यसहस्रस्य (sūryasahasrasya) - of a thousand suns; प्रभां (prabhām) - radiance; युगपद् (yugapad) - simultaneously; उत्थिताम् (utthitām) - risen; सहसा (sahasā) - suddenly; दृष्टवन्तः (dṛṣṭavantaḥ) - saw; स्म (sma) - indeed; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; एव (eva) - just; बृहस्पते (bṛhaspate) - O Bṛhaspati;]
(Then, the radiance of a thousand suns risen simultaneously, suddenly we saw indeed, again just, O Bṛhaspati.)
Then, O Bṛhaspati, we suddenly saw the radiance of a thousand suns rising at once, once again.
सहिताश्चाभ्यधावन्त ततस्ते मानवा द्रुतम्। कृताञ्जलिपुटा हृष्टा नम इत्येव वादिनः ॥३-३२३-३६॥
sahitāś cābhyadhāvanta tatas te mānavā drutam। kṛtāñjalipuṭā hṛṣṭā nama ityeva vā dinaḥ ॥3-323-36॥
[सहिताः (sahitāḥ) - together; joined; associated; च (ca) - and; अभ्यधावन्त (abhyadhāvanta) - ran towards; approached quickly; ततः (tataḥ) - then; thereafter; ते (te) - they; मानवाः (mānavāḥ) - men; humans; द्रुतम् (drutam) - quickly; swiftly; कृताञ्जलिपुटाः (kṛtāñjalipuṭāḥ) - with folded hands; having made the gesture of añjali; हृष्टाः (hṛṣṭāḥ) - joyful; delighted; नम (nama) - obeisance; salutation; इति (iti) - thus; so; एव (eva) - indeed; only; वादिनः (vā dinaḥ) - speaking; saying;]
(Together and they ran towards then those men quickly, with folded hands, joyful, 'obeisance' thus indeed speaking.)
Then those men, together, quickly ran forward, joyfully with folded hands, saying only 'obeisance'. (3-323-36)
ततोऽभिवदतां तेषामश्रौष्म विपुलं ध्वनिम्। बलिः किलोपह्रियते तस्य देवस्य तैर्नरैः ॥३-३२३-३७॥
tato'bhivadatāṃ teṣāmaśrauṣma vipulaṃ dhvanim। baliḥ kilopahriyate tasya devasya tair naraiḥ ॥3-323-37॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; from that; अभिवदताम् (abhivadatām) - of those greeting; of those saluting; तेषाम् (teṣām) - of them; their; अश्रौष्म (aśrauṣma) - we heard; विपुलम् (vipulam) - great; extensive; ध्वनिम् (dhvanim) - sound; noise; बलिः (baliḥ) - offering; oblation; किल (kila) - indeed; surely; उपह्रियते (upahriyate) - is brought; is offered; तस्य (tasya) - of him; his; देवस्य (devasya) - of the god; तैः (taiḥ) - by them; नरैः (naraiḥ) - by men;]
(Then, of those greeting, of them, we heard great sound. The offering indeed is brought of him, of the god, by them, by men.)
Then, among those who were greeting, we heard a great sound. Indeed, the offering for that god is being brought by those men. (3-323-37)
वयं तु तेजसा तस्य सहसा हृतचेतसः। न किञ्चिदपि पश्यामो हृतदृष्टिबलेन्द्रियाः ॥३-३२३-३८॥
vayaṃ tu tejasā tasya sahasā hṛtacetasaḥ। na kiñcidapi paśyāmo hṛtadṛṣṭibalendriyāḥ ॥3-323-38॥
[वयं (vayaṃ) - we; तु (tu) - but; तेजसा (tejasā) - by the brilliance; तस्य (tasya) - of him; सहसा (sahasā) - suddenly; हृतचेतसः (hṛtacetasaḥ) - with minds seized; न (na) - not; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - anything; अपि (api) - even; पश्यामः (paśyāmaḥ) - we see; हृतदृष्टिबल-इन्द्रियाः (hṛtadṛṣṭibala-indriyāḥ) - with sight, strength, and senses seized;]
(We but by the brilliance of him suddenly with minds seized not anything even we see with sight, strength, and senses seized.)
But we, our minds suddenly seized by his brilliance, with our sight, strength, and senses taken away, do not see anything at all. (3-323-38)
एकस्तु शब्दोऽविरतः श्रुतोऽस्माभिरुदीरितः। जितं ते पुण्डरीकाक्ष नमस्ते विश्वभावन ॥३-३२३-३९॥
ekas tu śabdo'virataḥ śruto'smābhir udīritaḥ। jitaṃ te puṇḍarīkākṣa namas te viśvabhāvana ॥3-323-39॥
[एकः (ekaḥ) - one; single; तु (tu) - but; however; शब्दः (śabdaḥ) - sound; word; अविरतः (aviraṭaḥ) - unceasing; uninterrupted; श्रुतः (śrutaḥ) - heard; listened; अस्माभिः (asmābhiḥ) - by us; उदीरितः (udīritaḥ) - uttered; spoken; जितम् (jitam) - conquered; subdued; ते (te) - by you; to you; पुण्डरीकाक्ष (puṇḍarīkākṣa) - O lotus-eyed; नमः (namaḥ) - salutation; obeisance; ते (te) - to you; विश्वभावन (viśvabhāvana) - creator of the universe;]
(One but sound unceasing heard by us uttered. Conquered by you, O lotus-eyed, salutation to you, creator of the universe.)
But only one unceasing sound has been heard and uttered by us. O lotus-eyed creator of the universe, you have conquered; salutations to you. (3-323-39)
नमस्तेऽस्तु हृषीकेश महापुरुषपूर्वज। इति शब्दः श्रुतोऽस्माभिः शिक्षाक्षरसमीरितः ॥३-३२३-४०॥
namaste'stu hṛṣīkeśa mahāpuruṣapūrvaja। iti śabdaḥ śruto'smābhiḥ śikṣākṣarasamīritaḥ ॥3-323-40॥
[नमस्ते (namaste) - obeisance to you; अस्तु (astu) - let it be; हृषीकेश (hṛṣīkeśa) - O master of the senses; महापुरुष (mahāpuruṣa) - great person; पूर्वज (pūrvaja) - ancestor; इति (iti) - thus; शब्दः (śabdaḥ) - sound; श्रुतः (śrutaḥ) - was heard; अस्माभिः (asmābhiḥ) - by us; शिक्षा (śikṣā) - instruction; अक्षर (akṣara) - syllable; समीरितः (samīritaḥ) - uttered;]
(Obeisance to you, let it be, O Hṛṣīkeśa, great person, ancestor; thus, the sound was heard by us, the instruction-syllable uttered.)
We heard the sound "Obeisance to you, O Hṛṣīkeśa, great person, ancestor; let it be," uttered as an instructional syllable. (3-323-40)
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे वायुः सर्वगन्धवहः शुचिः। दिव्यान्युवाह पुष्पाणि कर्मण्याश्चौषधीस्तथा ॥३-३२३-४१॥
etasminnantare vāyuḥ sarvagandhavahaḥ śuciḥ। divyānyuvāha puṣpāṇi karmaṇyāś cauṣadhīs tathā ॥3-323-41॥
[एतस्मिन् (etasmin) - in this; अन्तरे (antare) - interval; meantime; वायुः (vāyuḥ) - wind; सर्वगन्धवहः (sarvagandhavahaḥ) - carrier of all scents; शुचिः (śuciḥ) - pure; दिव्यानि (divyāni) - divine; उवाह (uvāha) - brought; पुष्पाणि (puṣpāṇi) - flowers; कर्मण्याः (karmaṇyāḥ) - fit for rites; च (ca) - and; औषधीः (auṣadhīḥ) - herbs; तथा (tathā) - likewise;]
(In this interval, the wind, carrier of all scents, pure, brought divine flowers and herbs fit for rites likewise.)
Meanwhile, the pure wind, which carries all fragrances, brought divine flowers and ritual herbs as well. (3-323-41)
तैरिष्टः पञ्चकालज्ञैर्हरिरेकान्तिभिर्नरैः। नूनं तत्रागतो देवो यथा तैर्वागुदीरिता ॥ वयं त्वेनं न पश्यामो मोहितास्तस्य मायया ॥३-३२३-४२॥
tairiṣṭaḥ pañcakālajñair harirekāntibhir naraiḥ। nūnaṃ tatrāgato devo yathā tair vāgudīritā ॥ vayaṃ tvenaṃ na paśyāmo mohitās tasya māyayā ॥3-323-42॥
[तैः (taiḥ) - by those; इष्टः (iṣṭaḥ) - worshipped; पञ्चकालज्ञैः (pañcakālajñaiḥ) - by those who know the five times; हरि (hari) - Hari; एकान्तिभिः (ekāntibhiḥ) - by those devoted solely; नरैः (naraiḥ) - by men; नूनं (nūnam) - certainly; तत्र (tatra) - there; आगतः (āgataḥ) - has come; देवः (devaḥ) - the god; यथा (yathā) - as; तैः (taiḥ) - by those; वाक् (vāk) - speech; उदीरिता (udīritā) - uttered; वयम् (vayam) - we; तु (tu) - but; एनम् (enam) - him; न (na) - not; पश्यामः (paśyāmaḥ) - see; मोहिताः (mohitāḥ) - deluded; तस्य (tasya) - by his; मायया (māyayā) - illusion;]
(By those worshipped, by those who know the five times, by men devoted solely to Hari, certainly there has come the god, as by those speech was uttered. We, however, do not see him, deluded by his illusion.)
Hari, worshipped by those who know the five times and are solely devoted, has certainly come there, as declared by their words. But we do not see him, being deluded by his illusion. (3-323-42)
मारुते संनिवृत्ते च बलौ च प्रतिपादिते। चिन्ताव्याकुलितात्मानो जाताः स्मोऽङ्गिरसां वर ॥३-३२३-४३॥
mārute saṁnivṛtte ca balau ca pratipāditē। cintāvyākulitātmānō jātāḥ smō'ṅgirasāṁ vara ॥3-323-43॥
[मारुते (mārute) - when the wind; (marut: wind; locative singular) संनिवृत्ते (saṁnivṛtte) - ceased; (sam-ni-vṛt: to cease; past participle, locative singular) च (ca) - and; बलौ (balau) - the two armies; (bala: army; dual nominative) च (ca) - and; प्रतिपादिते (pratipāditē) - were set in motion; (prati-pād: to set forth, to cause to move; past participle, locative singular) चिन्ता (cintā) - thought; anxiety; व्याकुलित (vyākulita) - agitated; disturbed; आत्मानः (ātmānaḥ) - selves; (ātman: self; nominative plural) जाताः (jātāḥ) - became; (jan: to become; past participle, nominative plural) स्मः (smaḥ) - we; अङ्गिरसां (aṅgirasām) - of the Angiras (sages); (aṅgiras: name of a sage; genitive plural) वर (vara) - O best; (vocative singular);]
(When the wind had ceased and the two armies were set in motion, our selves became agitated with anxiety, O best of the Angiras.)
O best of the Angiras, when the wind had ceased and the two armies were set in motion, we became anxious and disturbed. (3-323-43)
मानवानां सहस्रेषु तेषु वै शुद्धयोनिषु। अस्मान्न कश्चिन्मनसा चक्षुषा वाप्यपूजयत् ॥३-३२३-४४॥
mānavānāṃ sahasreṣu teṣu vai śuddhayoniṣu। asmān na kaścin manasā cakṣuṣā vā apy apūjayat ॥3-323-44॥
[मानवानाम् (mānavānām) - of men; सहस्रेषु (sahasreṣu) - among thousands; तेषु (teṣu) - among those; वै (vai) - indeed; शुद्धयोनिषु (śuddhayoniṣu) - among pure origins; अस्मात् (asmāt) - us; न (na) - not; कश्चित् (kaścit) - anyone; मनसा (manasā) - with mind; चक्षुषा (cakṣuṣā) - with eye; वा (vā) - or; अपि (api) - even; अपूजयत् (apūjayat) - honored;]
(Of men among thousands among those indeed among pure origins us not anyone with mind with eye or even honored.)
Among thousands of men, even among those of pure origin, not a single one honored us, either in mind or with their eyes or in any way. (3-323-44)
तेऽपि स्वस्था मुनिगणा एकभावमनुव्रताः। नास्मासु दधिरे भावं ब्रह्मभावमनुष्ठिताः ॥३-३२३-४५॥
te'pi svasthā munigaṇā ekabhāvamanuvratāḥ। nāsmāsu dadhire bhāvaṃ brahmabhāvamanuṣṭhitāḥ ॥3-323-45॥
[ते (te) - they; अपि (api) - also; स्वस्था (svasthāḥ) - self-abiding; मुनिगणा (munigaṇāḥ) - groups of sages; एकभाव (ekabhāva) - one state; अनुव्रताः (anuvratāḥ) - following; न (na) - not; अस्मासु (asmāsu) - in us; दधिरे (dadhire) - held; भावं (bhāvam) - state; ब्रह्मभाव (brahmabhāva) - state of Brahman; अनुष्ठिताः (anuṣṭhitāḥ) - established;]
(They also, self-abiding, groups of sages, following one state, did not hold in us the state, being established in the state of Brahman.)
Those groups of sages, also self-abiding and united in one state, did not hold any feeling towards us, being established in the state of Brahman. (3-323-45)
ततोऽस्मान्सुपरिश्रान्तांस्तपसा चापि कर्शितान्। उवाच खस्थं किमपि भूतं तत्राशरीरकम् ॥३-३२३-४६॥
tato'smān supariśrāntāṁs tapasā cāpi karśitān। uvāca kha-sthaṁ kim api bhūtaṁ tatra aśarīrakam ॥3-323-46॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; अस्मान् (asmān) - us; सुपरिश्रान्तान् (supariśrāntān) - very exhausted; तपसा (tapasā) - by austerity; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; कर्शितान् (karśitān) - emaciated; उवाच (uvāca) - said; खस्थम् (kha-stham) - situated in the sky; किम् (kim) - what; अपि (api) - some; भूतम् (bhūtam) - being; तत्र (tatra) - there; अशरीरकम् (aśarīrakam) - bodiless;]
(Then, to us, very exhausted, by austerity and also emaciated, said (a) being situated in the sky, some, there, bodiless.)
Then, when we were very exhausted and emaciated by austerity, a certain bodiless being situated in the sky spoke to us there. (3-323-46)
दृष्टा वः पुरुषाः श्वेताः सर्वेन्द्रियविवर्जिताः। दृष्टो भवति देवेश एभिर्दृष्टैर्द्विजोत्तमाः ॥३-३२३-४७॥
dṛṣṭā vaḥ puruṣāḥ śvetāḥ sarvendriyavivarjitāḥ। dṛṣṭo bhavati deveśa ebhirdṛṣṭairdvijottamāḥ ॥3-323-47॥
[दृष्टा (dṛṣṭā) - seen; वः (vaḥ) - by you; पुरुषाः (puruṣāḥ) - men; श्वेताः (śvetāḥ) - white; सर्वेन्द्रियविवर्जिताः (sarvendriya-vivarjitāḥ) - devoid of all senses; दृष्टः (dṛṣṭaḥ) - seen; भवति (bhavati) - becomes; देवेश (deveśa) - O lord of the gods; एभिः (ebhiḥ) - by these; दृष्टैः (dṛṣṭaiḥ) - by those who are seen; द्विजोत्तमाः (dvijottamāḥ) - best of the twice-born;]
(Seen by you are men, white, devoid of all senses. Seen becomes, O lord of the gods, by these seen, the best of the twice-born.)
O lord of the gods, the white men devoid of all senses whom you have seen—by seeing these, the best of the twice-born is seen. (3-323-47)
गच्छध्वं मुनयः सर्वे यथागतमितोऽचिरात्। न स शक्यो अभक्तेन द्रष्टुं देवः कथञ्चन ॥३-३२३-४८॥
gacchadhvaṃ munayaḥ sarve yathāgatam ito'cirāt। na sa śakyo abhaktena draṣṭuṃ devaḥ kathaṃcana ॥3-323-48॥
[गच्छध्वं (gacchadhvaṃ) - go (you all); मुनयः (munayaḥ) - sages; सर्वे (sarve) - all; यथा (yathā) - as; आगतम् (āgatam) - you have come; इतः (itaḥ) - from here; अचिरात् (acirāt) - without delay; न (na) - not; सः (saḥ) - he; शक्यः (śakyaḥ) - possible; अभक्तेन (abhaktena) - by one who is not devoted; द्रष्टुम् (draṣṭum) - to see; देवः (devaḥ) - the god; कथञ्चन (kathaṃcana) - in any way;]
(Go, all sages, as you have come, from here without delay. He is not possible to be seen by one who is not devoted, the god, in any way.)
All of you sages, depart from here at once as you have come. The god cannot be seen in any way by one who is not devoted. (3-323-48)
कामं कालेन महता एकान्तित्वं समागतैः। शक्यो द्रष्टुं स भगवान्प्रभामण्डलदुर्दृशः ॥३-३२३-४९॥
kāmaṃ kālena mahatā ekāntitvaṃ samāgataiḥ। śakyo draṣṭuṃ sa bhagavān prabhāmaṇḍala-durdṛśaḥ ॥3-323-49॥
[कामम् (kāmaṃ) - indeed; कालेन (kālena) - by time; महता (mahatā) - by great (time); एकान्तित्वम् (ekāntitvam) - solitude; समागतैः (samāgataiḥ) - having come together; शक्यः (śakyaḥ) - possible; द्रष्टुम् (draṣṭum) - to see; स (sa) - he; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the Lord; प्रभामण्डलदुर्दृशः (prabhāmaṇḍala-durdṛśaḥ) - difficult to see due to the circle of radiance;]
(Indeed, by great time, solitude having come together, possible to see he the Lord difficult to see due to the circle of radiance.)
Indeed, after a long time, when solitude is attained, it is possible to see that Lord who is difficult to behold because of his circle of radiance. (3-323-49)
महत्कार्यं तु कर्तव्यं युष्माभिर्द्विजसत्तमाः। इतः कृतयुगेऽतीते विपर्यासं गतेऽपि च ॥३-३२३-५०॥
mahatkāryaṃ tu kartavyaṃ yuṣmābhir dvijasattamāḥ। itaḥ kṛtayuge'tīte viparyāsaṃ gate'pi ca ॥3-323-50॥
[महत् (mahat) - great; कार्यं (kāryaṃ) - action; तु (tu) - but; कर्तव्यं (kartavyaṃ) - to be done; युष्माभिः (yuṣmābhiḥ) - by you; द्विजसत्तमाः (dvijasattamāḥ) - O best of twice-born; इतः (itaḥ) - from here; कृतयुगे (kṛtayuge) - in the Kṛta Yuga; अतीते (atīte) - having passed; विपर्यासं (viparyāsam) - change; गते (gate) - having gone; अपि (api) - even; च (ca) - and;]
(Great action but to be done by you O best of twice-born; from here in the Kṛta Yuga having passed, change having gone even and.)
O best of the twice-born, you must perform a great deed; even after the Kṛta Yuga has passed from here and change has occurred. (3-323-50)
वैवस्वतेऽन्तरे विप्राः प्राप्ते त्रेतायुगे ततः। सुराणां कार्यसिद्ध्यर्थं सहाया वै भविष्यथ ॥३-३२३-५१॥
vaivasvate'ntare viprāḥ prāpte tretāyuge tataḥ। surāṇāṃ kāryasiddhyarthaṃ sahāyā vai bhaviṣyatha ॥3-323-51॥
[वैवस्वते (vaivasvate) - in the Vaivasvata (Manvantara); अन्तरे (antare) - interval; period; विप्राः (viprāḥ) - Brāhmaṇas; sages; प्राप्ते (prāpte) - having arrived; having come; त्रेतायुगे (tretāyuge) - in the Tretā Yuga; ततः (tataḥ) - then; thereafter; सुराणां (surāṇām) - of the gods; कार्यसिद्ध्यर्थं (kāryasiddhyartham) - for the purpose of accomplishment of the task; सहाया (sahāyā) - helpers; assistants; वै (vai) - indeed; truly; भविष्यथ (bhaviṣyatha) - you will become; you will be;]
(In the Vaivasvata interval, Brāhmaṇas, when the Tretā Yuga has arrived, then, for the purpose of accomplishment of the gods' task, helpers indeed you will become.)
O Brāhmaṇas, in the Vaivasvata Manvantara, when the Tretā Yuga arrives, then, for the accomplishment of the gods' purpose, you will indeed become their helpers. (3-323-51)
ततस्तदद्भुतं वाक्यं निशम्यैवं स्म सोमप। तस्य प्रसादात्प्राप्ताः स्मो देशमीप्सितमञ्जसा ॥३-३२३-५२॥
tatastadadbhutaṃ vākyaṃ niśamyaivaṃ sma somapa। tasya prasādātprāptāḥ smo deśamīpsitamañjasā ॥3-323-52॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; तत् (tat) - that; अद्भुतं (adbhutaṃ) - wonderful; वाक्यं (vākyaṃ) - speech; निशम्य (niśamya) - having heard; एवं (evaṃ) - thus; स्म (sma) - indeed; सोमप (somapa) - O drinker of Soma; तस्य (tasya) - his; प्रसादात् (prasādāt) - by favor; प्राप्ताः (prāptāḥ) - attained; स्मः (smaḥ) - we; देशम् (deśam) - region; ईप्सितम् (īpsitam) - desired; अञ्जसा (añjasā) - easily;]
(Then that wonderful speech having heard thus indeed O drinker of Soma; by his favor attained we region desired easily.)
Then, O drinker of Soma, having thus heard that wonderful speech, by his favor we easily attained the desired region. (3-323-52)
एवं सुतपसा चैव हव्यकव्यैस्तथैव च। देवोऽस्माभिर्न दृष्टः स कथं त्वं द्रष्टुमर्हसि ॥ नारायणो महद्भूतं विश्वसृग्घव्यकव्यभुक् ॥३-३२३-५३॥
evaṃ sutapasā caiva havyakavyais tathaiva ca। devo'smābhir na dṛṣṭaḥ sa kathaṃ tvaṃ draṣṭum arhasi ॥ nārāyaṇo mahadbhūtaṃ viśvasṛg havyakavyabhuk ॥3-323-53॥
[एवं (evaṃ) - thus; सुतपसा (sutapasā) - by good austerity; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; हव्यकव्यैः (havyakavyaiḥ) - by oblations to gods and ancestors; तथैव (tathaiva) - in the same way; च (ca) - and; देवः (devaḥ) - the god; अस्माभिः (asmābhiḥ) - by us; न (na) - not; दृष्टः (dṛṣṭaḥ) - seen; स (sa) - he; कथम् (katham) - how; त्वम् (tvam) - you; द्रष्टुम् (draṣṭum) - to see; अर्हसि (arhasi) - are worthy; नारायणः (nārāyaṇaḥ) - Nārāyaṇa; महत् (mahat) - great; भूतं (bhūtaṃ) - being; विश्वसृक् (viśvasṛk) - creator of the universe; हव्यकव्यभुक् (havyakavyabhuk) - eater of oblations to gods and ancestors;]
(Thus, by good austerity and indeed by oblations to gods and ancestors in the same way, the god has not been seen by us; how are you worthy to see him? Nārāyaṇa, the great being, creator of the universe, eater of oblations to gods and ancestors. (3-323-53))
Thus, even with good austerities and offerings to gods and ancestors, we have not seen that god; so how are you able to see him? Nārāyaṇa is the great being, the creator of the universe, and the receiver of offerings to gods and ancestors. (3-323-53)

एवमेकतवाक्येन द्वितत्रितमतेन च। अनुनीतः सदस्यैश्च बृहस्पतिरुदारधीः ॥ समानीय ततो यज्ञं दैवतं समपूजयत् ॥३-३२३-५४॥
evamekatavākyena dvitatritamatena ca। anunītaḥ sadasyaiśca bṛhaspatirudāradhīḥ ॥ samānīya tato yajñaṃ daivataṃ samapūjayat ॥3-323-54॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; एकतवाक्येन (ekatavākyena) - by the statement of unity; द्वितत्रितमतेन (dvitatritamatena) - by the opinion of the second and third; च (ca) - and; अनुनीतः (anunītaḥ) - was persuaded; सदस्यैः (sadasyaiḥ) - by the members; च (ca) - and; बृहस्पतिः (bṛhaspatiḥ) - Bṛhaspati; उदारधीः (udāradhīḥ) - of noble intellect; समानीय (samānīya) - having brought together; ततः (tataḥ) - then; यज्ञम् (yajñam) - sacrifice; दैवतम् (daivatam) - the deity; समपूजयत् (samapūjayat) - worshipped completely;]
(Thus, by the statement of unity and by the opinion of the second and third, and persuaded by the members, Bṛhaspati of noble intellect, having brought together then the sacrifice, worshipped the deity completely.)
Thus, by the unified statement and the opinions of the second and third, and being persuaded by the members, the noble-minded Bṛhaspati, having assembled the sacrifice, then worshipped the deity completely. (3-323-54)
समाप्तयज्ञो राजापि प्रजाः पालितवान्वसुः। ब्रह्मशापाद्दिवो भ्रष्टः प्रविवेश महीं ततः ॥३-३२३-५५॥
samāptayajño rājāpi prajāḥ pālitavānvasuḥ। brahmaśāpāddivo bhraṣṭaḥ praviveśa mahīṃ tataḥ ॥3-323-55॥
[समाप्तयज्ञः (samāptayajñaḥ) - one whose sacrifice is completed; राजा (rājā) - king; अपि (api) - also; प्रजाः (prajāḥ) - subjects; पालितवान् (pālitavān) - protected; वसुः (vasuḥ) - Vasu (the king); ब्रह्मशापात् (brahmaśāpāt) - from the curse of Brahma; दिवः (divaḥ) - from heaven; भ्रष्टः (bhraṣṭaḥ) - fallen; प्रविवेश (praviveśa) - entered; महीम् (mahīm) - earth; ततः (tataḥ) - then;]
(The king whose sacrifice was completed, also Vasu, having protected the subjects, from the curse of Brahma, fallen from heaven, then entered the earth.)
After completing his sacrifice, King Vasu, who had protected his subjects, was cast down from heaven by Brahma's curse and then entered the earth. (3-323-55)
अन्तर्भूमिगतश्चैव सततं धर्मवत्सलः। नारायणपरो भूत्वा नारायणपदं जगौ ॥३-३२३-५६॥
antarbhūmigataś caiva satataṃ dharmavatsalaḥ। nārāyaṇaparo bhūtvā nārāyaṇapadaṃ jagau ॥3-323-56॥
[अन्तर्भूमिगतः (antarbhūmigataḥ) - gone within the earth; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; सततम् (satatam) - always; धर्मवत्सलः (dharmavatsalaḥ) - one who is fond of dharma; नारायणपरः (nārāyaṇaparaḥ) - devoted to Nārāyaṇa; भूत्वा (bhūtvā) - having become; नारायणपदम् (nārāyaṇapadam) - the state/abode of Nārāyaṇa; जगौ (jagau) - he attained;]
(Gone within the earth and indeed always one who is fond of dharma, having become devoted to Nārāyaṇa, he attained the state of Nārāyaṇa. (3-323-56))
Having gone within the earth, and always being fond of dharma, he became devoted to Nārāyaṇa and attained the abode of Nārāyaṇa. (3-323-56)
तस्यैव च प्रसादेन पुनरेवोत्थितस्तु सः। महीतलाद्गतः स्थानं ब्रह्मणः समनन्तरम् ॥ परां गतिमनुप्राप्त इति नैष्ठिकमञ्जसा ॥३-३२३-५७॥
tasyaiva ca prasādena punarevotthitastu saḥ। mahītalādgataḥ sthānaṃ brahmaṇaḥ samanantaram ॥ parāṃ gatimanuprāpta iti naiṣṭhikamañjasā ॥3-323-57॥
[तस्यैव (tasyaiva) - of him only; च (ca) - and; प्रसादेन (prasādena) - by grace; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; एव (eva) - indeed; उत्थितः (utthitaḥ) - risen; तु (tu) - but; सः (saḥ) - he; महीतलात् (mahītalāt) - from the surface of the earth; गतः (gataḥ) - gone; स्थानं (sthānam) - place; ब्रह्मणः (brahmaṇaḥ) - of Brahman; समनन्तरम् (samanantaram) - immediately after; परां (parām) - supreme; गतिम् (gatim) - state; अनुप्राप्त (anuprāpta) - attained; इति (iti) - thus; नैष्ठिकम् (naiṣṭhikam) - final; अञ्जसा (añjasā) - directly;]
(Of him only and by grace, again indeed risen but he; from the surface of the earth gone, the place of Brahman immediately after; the supreme state attained thus, final directly.)
By his grace alone, he again indeed rose up; having departed from the surface of the earth, he immediately reached the abode of Brahman; thus, he directly attained the supreme and final state. (3-323-57)
