एवं स्तुतः स भगवान्गुह्यैस्तथ्यैश्च नामभिः। तं मुनिं दर्शयामास नारदं विश्वरूपधृक् ॥३-३२६-१॥
evaṃ stutaḥ sa bhagavān guhyaistathyaiś ca nāmabhiḥ। taṃ muniṃ darśayāmāsa nāradaṃ viśvarūpadhṛk ॥3-326-1॥
[एवं (evaṃ) - thus; स्तुतः (stutaḥ) - praised; स (sa) - he; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the Lord; गुह्यैः (guhyaiḥ) - by secret; तथ्यैः (tathyaiḥ) - by true; च (ca) - and; नामभिः (nāmabhiḥ) - by names; तं (taṃ) - that; मुनिं (muniṃ) - sage; दर्शयामास (darśayāmāsa) - showed; नारदं (nāradaṃ) - Nārada; विश्वरूपधृक् (viśvarūpadhṛk) - assuming universal form;]
(Thus, praised he the Lord by secret and true names; that sage showed Nārada, assuming universal form.)
Thus, when praised by secret and true names, the Lord, assuming a universal form, revealed himself to the sage Nārada. (3-326-1)
किञ्चिच्चन्द्रविशुद्धात्मा किञ्चिच्चन्द्राद्विशेषवान्। कृशानुवर्णः किञ्चिच्च किञ्चिद्धिष्ण्याकृतिः प्रभुः ॥३-३२६-२॥
kiñciccandraviśuddhātmā kiñciccandrādviśeṣavān। kṛśānuvarṇaḥ kiñcicca kiñciddhiṣṇyākṛtiḥ prabhuḥ ॥3-326-2॥
[किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - somewhat; a little; चन्द्र (candra) - moon; विशुद्ध (viśuddha) - pure; cleansed; आत्मा (ātmā) - self; essence; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - somewhat; a little; चन्द्रात् (candrāt) - from the moon; विशेषवान् (viśeṣavān) - possessing distinction; special; कृशानु (kṛśānu) - fire; flame; वर्णः (varṇaḥ) - color; appearance; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - somewhat; a little; च (ca) - and; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - somewhat; a little; धिष्ण्य (dhiṣṇya) - altar; seat; आकृतिः (ākṛtiḥ) - form; shape; प्रभुः (prabhuḥ) - lord; master;]
(Somewhat moon-pure-self, somewhat from the moon possessing distinction; fire-color, somewhat and somewhat altar-form lord.)
He is somewhat pure like the moon in essence, somewhat distinct from the moon; having the color of fire, somewhat and somewhat having the form of an altar, the lord. (3-326-2)
शुकपत्रवर्णः किञ्चिच्च किञ्चित्स्फटिकसप्रभः। नीलाञ्जनचयप्रख्यो जातरूपप्रभः क्वचित् ॥३-३२६-३॥
śukapatravarṇaḥ kiñcic ca kiñcit sphāṭika-sa-prabhaḥ। nīlāñjanacaya-prakhyo jātarūpaprabhaḥ kvacit ॥3-326-3॥
[शुकपत्रवर्णः (śukapatravarṇaḥ) - having the color of a parrot's feather; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - somewhat; च (ca) - and; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - somewhat; स्फटिकसप्रभः (sphāṭika-sa-prabhaḥ) - having a luster like crystal; नीलाञ्जनचयप्रख्यः (nīlāñjanacaya-prakhyaḥ) - resembling a mass of blue collyrium; जातरूपप्रभः (jātarūpaprabhaḥ) - having the luster of gold; क्वचित् (kvacit) - at some places;]
(Having the color of a parrot's feather, somewhat and somewhat having a luster like crystal, resembling a mass of blue collyrium, having the luster of gold at some places.)
He was of the color of a parrot's feather, at some places somewhat like crystal in luster, at others resembling a mass of blue collyrium, and in some places shining like gold. (3-326-3)
प्रवालाङ्कुरवर्णश्च श्वेतवर्णः क्वचिद्बभौ। क्वचित्सुवर्णवर्णाभो वैडूर्यसदृशः क्वचित् ॥३-३२६-४॥
pravālāṅkuravarṇaś ca śvetavarṇaḥ kvacid babhau। kvacit suvarṇavarṇābho vaiḍūryasadṛśaḥ kvacit ॥3-326-4॥
[प्रवाल (pravāla) - coral; अङ्कुर (aṅkura) - sprout; वर्ण (varṇa) - color; श्च (ś ca) - and; श्वेत (śveta) - white; वर्णः (varṇaḥ) - color; क्वचित् (kvacit) - at some place; बभौ (babhau) - shone; क्वचित् (kvacit) - at some place; सुवर्ण (suvarṇa) - gold; वर्ण (varṇa) - color; आभः (ābhaḥ) - having the luster; वैडूर्य (vaiḍūrya) - cat's eye gem; सदृशः (sadṛśaḥ) - resembling; क्वचित् (kvacit) - at some place;]
(Coral sprout color and white color at some place shone; at some place gold color having the luster cat's eye gem resembling at some place.)
In some places, it shone with the color of a coral sprout and in others with a white hue; elsewhere, it had the luster of gold, and in some places, it resembled a cat's eye gem. (3-326-4)
नीलवैडूर्यसदृश इन्द्रनीलनिभः क्वचित्। मयूरग्रीववर्णाभो मुक्ताहारनिभः क्वचित् ॥३-३२६-५॥
nīlavaiḍūryasadṛśa indranīlanibhaḥ kvacit। mayūragrīvavarṇābho muktāhāranibhaḥ kvacit ॥3-326-5॥
[नीलवैडूर्यसदृश (nīlavaiḍūryasadṛśa) - like blue beryl; इन्द्रनीलनिभः (indranīlanibhaḥ) - having the appearance of sapphire; क्वचित् (kvacit) - at some places; मयूरग्रीववर्णाभः (mayūragrīvavarṇābhaḥ) - having the color like the neck of a peacock; मुक्ताहारनिभः (muktāhāranibhaḥ) - having the appearance of a pearl necklace; क्वचित् (kvacit) - at some places;]
(Like blue beryl, having the appearance of sapphire at some places; having the color like the neck of a peacock, having the appearance of a pearl necklace at some places.)
In some places, it resembled blue beryl or sapphire; elsewhere, it had the color of a peacock's neck or the appearance of a pearl necklace. (3-326-5)
एतान्वर्णान्बहुविधान्रूपे बिभ्रत्सनातनः। सहस्रनयनः श्रीमाञ्शतशीर्षः सहस्रपात् ॥३-३२६-६॥
etān varṇān bahuvidhān rūpe bibhrat sanātanaḥ। sahasranayanaḥ śrīmān śataśīrṣaḥ sahasrapāt ॥3-326-6॥
[एतान् (etān) - these; वर्णान् (varṇān) - colors; बहुविधान् (bahuvidhān) - of many kinds; रूपे (rūpe) - forms; बिभ्रत् (bibhrat) - bearing; सनातनः (sanātanaḥ) - eternal; सहस्रनयनः (sahasranayanaḥ) - thousand-eyed; श्रीमान् (śrīmān) - possessed of fortune; शतशीर्षः (śataśīrṣaḥ) - hundred-headed; सहस्रपात् (sahasrapāt) - thousand-footed;]
(The eternal one, bearing these colors, of many kinds, in forms, thousand-eyed, possessed of fortune, hundred-headed, thousand-footed.)
The eternal one, bearing these many kinds of colors and forms, with a thousand eyes, endowed with fortune, a hundred heads, and a thousand feet. (3-326-6)
सहस्रोदरबाहुश्च अव्यक्त इति च क्वचित्। ओङ्कारमुद्गिरन्वक्त्रात्सावित्रीं च तदन्वयाम् ॥३-३२६-७॥
sahasrodarabāhuś ca avyakta iti ca kvacit। oṅkāram udgiran vaktrāt sāvitrīṃ ca tadanvayām ॥3-326-7॥
[सहस्र (sahasra) - thousand; उदर (udara) - belly; बाहु (bāhu) - arm; श् (ś) - and; च (ca) - and; अव्यक्त (avyakta) - unmanifest; इति (iti) - thus; च (ca) - and; क्वचित् (kvacit) - sometimes; ओङ्कारम् (oṅkāram) - the syllable Om; उद्गिरन् (udgiran) - uttering forth; वक्त्रात् (vaktrāt) - from the mouth; सावित्रीम् (sāvitrīm) - the Sāvitrī (Gāyatrī mantra); च (ca) - and; तदन्वयाम् (tadanvayām) - its sequence;]
(Thousand belly arm and and unmanifest thus and sometimes. The syllable Om uttering forth from the mouth, the Sāvitrī and its sequence.)
Sometimes, he is described as having a thousand bellies and arms, and as the unmanifest. He utters the syllable "Om" from his mouth, as well as the Sāvitrī and its sequence. (3-326-7)
शेषेभ्यश्चैव वक्त्रेभ्यश्चतुर्वेदोद्गतं वसु। आरण्यकं जगौ देवो हरिर्नारायणो वशी ॥३-३२६-८॥
śeṣebhyaś caiva vaktrebhyaś caturvedodgataṃ vasu। āraṇyakaṃ jagau devo harir nārāyaṇo vaśī ॥3-326-8॥
[शेषेभ्यः (śeṣebhyaḥ) - to the remaining ones; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; वक्त्रेभ्यः (vaktrebhyaḥ) - to the mouths; चतुर्वेदोद्गतम् (caturvedodgatam) - arisen from the four Vedas; वसु (vasu) - wealth; आरण्यकम् (āraṇyakam) - Āraṇyaka (forest treatise); जगौ (jagau) - sang; देवः (devaḥ) - the god; हरिः (hariḥ) - Hari; नारायणः (nārāyaṇaḥ) - Nārāyaṇa; वशी (vaśī) - the controller;]
(To the remaining ones and indeed to the mouths, the wealth arisen from the four Vedas, the god Hari Nārāyaṇa, the controller, sang the Āraṇyaka.)

वेदीं कमण्डलुं दर्भान्मणिरूपानथोपलान्। अजिनं दण्डकाष्ठं च ज्वलितं च हुताशनम् ॥ धारयामास देवेशो हस्तैर्यज्ञपतिस्तदा ॥३-३२६-९॥
vedīṃ kamaṇḍaluṃ darbhān maṇirūpān atha upalān | ajinaṃ daṇḍakāṣṭhaṃ ca jvalitaṃ ca hutāśanam ॥ dhārayāmāsa deveśo hastair yajñapatiḥ tadā ॥3-326-9॥
[वेदीम् (vedīm) - altar; कमण्डलुम् (kamaṇḍalum) - water-pot; दर्भान् (darbhān) - sacrificial grasses; मणिरूपान् (maṇirūpān) - gem-formed; अथ (atha) - then; उपलान् (upalān) - stones; अजिनम् (ajinam) - deerskin; दण्डकाष्ठम् (daṇḍakāṣṭham) - staff-wood; च (ca) - and; ज्वलितम् (jvalitam) - kindled; च (ca) - and; हुताशनम् (hutāśanam) - fire; धारयामास (dhārayāmāsa) - held; देवेशः (deveśaḥ) - lord of the gods; हस्तैः (hastaiḥ) - with hands; यज्ञपतिः (yajñapatiḥ) - lord of sacrifice; तदा (tadā) - then;]
(altar, water-pot, sacrificial grasses, gem-formed stones, then stones, deerskin, staff-wood and kindled and fire; held the lord of the gods with hands, the lord of sacrifice then.)
Then the lord of sacrifice, the lord of the gods, held with his hands the altar, water-pot, sacrificial grasses, gem-formed stones, stones, deerskin, staff-wood, and the kindled fire. (3-326-9)
तं प्रसन्नं प्रसन्नात्मा नारदो द्विजसत्तमः। वाग्यतः प्रयतो भूत्वा ववन्दे परमेश्वरम् ॥ तमुवाच नतं मूर्ध्ना देवानामादिरव्ययः ॥३-३२६-१०॥
taṃ prasannaṃ prasannātmā nārado dvijasattamaḥ। vāgyataḥ prayato bhūtvā vavande parameśvaram ॥ tamuvāca nataṃ mūrdhnā devānām ādir avyayaḥ ॥3-326-10॥
[तं (taṃ) - him; प्रसन्नं (prasannaṃ) - gracious; प्रसन्नात्मा (prasannātmā) - with a clear mind; नारदः (nāradaḥ) - Nārada; द्विजसत्तमः (dvijasattamaḥ) - best among the twice-born; वाग्यतः (vāgyataḥ) - restraining speech; प्रयतः (prayataḥ) - purified; भूत्वा (bhūtvā) - having become; ववन्दे (vavande) - bowed; परमेश्वरम् (parameśvaram) - the supreme lord; तम् (tam) - him; उवाच (uvāca) - said; नतं (nataṃ) - bowed; मूर्ध्ना (mūrdhnā) - with the head; देवानाम् (devānām) - of the gods; आदिः (ādiḥ) - the first; अव्ययः (avyayaḥ) - imperishable;]
(Him gracious, with a clear mind Nārada, best among the twice-born, restraining speech, purified, having become, bowed to the supreme lord. To him, said, bowed, with the head, of the gods, the first, imperishable.)
Nārada, the best among the twice-born, with a clear mind and purified, restraining his speech, bowed to the gracious supreme lord. The imperishable first of the gods, seeing him bowed with his head, spoke to him. (3-326-10)
एकतश्च द्वितश्चैव त्रितश्चैव महर्षयः। इमं देशमनुप्राप्ता मम दर्शनलालसाः ॥३-३२६-११॥
ekataś ca dvitataś caiva tritataś caiva maharṣayaḥ। imaṃ deśam anuprāptā mama darśanalālasāḥ॥3-326-11॥
[एकतश् (ekataś) - one by one; च (ca) - and; द्वितश् (dvitataś) - two by two; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; त्रितश् (tritataś) - three by three; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; महर्षयः (maharṣayaḥ) - great sages; इमम् (imam) - this; देशम् (deśam) - place; अनुप्राप्ताः (anuprāptāḥ) - arrived; मम (mama) - my; दर्शनलालसाः (darśanalālasāḥ) - desirous of seeing;]
(One by one and two by two indeed and three by three indeed great sages arrived at this place, desirous of seeing me.)
Great sages, desirous of seeing me, arrived at this place one by one, two by two, and three by three. (3-326-11)
न च मां ते ददृशिरे न च द्रक्ष्यति कश्चन। ऋते ह्येकान्तिकश्रेष्ठात्त्वं चैवैकान्तिको मतः ॥३-३२६-१२॥
na ca māṃ te dadṛśire na ca drakṣyati kaścana। ṛte hyekāntikaśreṣṭhāttvaṃ caivaikāntiko mataḥ ॥3-326-12॥
[न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; माम् (mām) - me; ते (te) - they; ददृशिरे (dadṛśire) - have seen; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; द्रक्ष्यति (drakṣyati) - will see; कश्चन (kaścana) - anyone; ऋते (ṛte) - except; हि (hi) - indeed; एकान्तिकश्रेष्ठात् (ekāntikaśreṣṭhāt) - from the supremely devoted; त्वम् (tvam) - you; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; एकान्तिकः (ekāntikaḥ) - supremely devoted; मतः (mataḥ) - considered;]
(Not and me they have seen, not and will see anyone; except indeed from the supremely devoted, you and indeed are considered supremely devoted.)
No one has seen me, nor will anyone see me, except for the supremely devoted; you are indeed considered supremely devoted. (3-326-12)
ममैतास्तनवः श्रेष्ठा जाता धर्मगृहे द्विज। तास्त्वं भजस्व सततं साधयस्व यथागतम् ॥३-३२६-१३॥
mamaitāstanavaḥ śreṣṭhā jātā dharmagṛhe dvija। tāstvaṃ bhajasva satataṃ sādhayasva yathāgatam ॥3-326-13॥
[मम (mama) - of me; my; एताः (etāḥ) - these (feminine plural); तनवः (tanavaḥ) - daughters; bodies; श्रेष्ठाः (śreṣṭhāḥ) - excellent; best; जाता (jātāḥ) - born; धर्मगृहे (dharmagṛhe) - in the house of dharma; in the righteous house; द्विज (dvija) - twice-born; Brahmin; ताः (tāḥ) - them; those; त्वम् (tvam) - you; भजस्व (bhajasva) - accept; take; सततम् (satatam) - always; continually; साधयस्व (sādhayasva) - accomplish; fulfill; यथागतम् (yathāgatam) - as come; as arrived;]
(Of me these daughters excellent born in the house of dharma, O twice-born; them you accept always, accomplish as come. (3-326-13))
These daughters of mine, excellent and born in the house of dharma, O Brahmin, you should always accept them and fulfill (your duties) as they have come. (3-326-13)
वृणीष्व च वरं विप्र मत्तस्त्वं यमिहेच्छसि। प्रसन्नोऽहं तवाद्येह विश्वमूर्तिरिहाव्ययः ॥३-३२६-१४॥
vṛṇīṣva ca varaṃ vipra mattastvaṃ yam iha icchasi। prasanno'ham tavādya iha viśvamūrtir iha avyayaḥ ॥3-326-14॥
[वृणीष्व (vṛṇīṣva) - choose; च (ca) - and; वरं (varaṃ) - boon; विप्र (vipra) - brāhmaṇa; मत्तः (mattaḥ) - from me; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; यम् (yam) - which; इह (iha) - here; इच्छसि (icchasi) - you desire; प्रसन्नः (prasannaḥ) - pleased; अहम् (aham) - I; तव (tava) - to you; अद्य (adya) - today; इह (iha) - here; विश्वमूर्ति (viśvamūrti) - of universal form; इह (iha) - here; अव्ययः (avyayaḥ) - imperishable;]
(Choose and boon, brāhmaṇa, from me, you, which here you desire. Pleased I am to you today here, of universal form, here, imperishable.)
O brāhmaṇa, choose any boon from me that you desire here. I am pleased with you today, here, as the imperishable one of universal form. (3-326-14)
नारद उवाच॥

अद्य मे तपसो देव यमस्य नियमस्य च। सद्यः फलमवाप्तं वै दृष्टो यद्भगवान्मया ॥३-३२६-१५॥
adya me tapaso deva yamasya niyamasya ca। sadyaḥ phalam avāptaṃ vai dṛṣṭo yad bhagavān mayā ॥3-326-15॥
[अद्य (adya) - today; मे (me) - by me; तपसो (tapasaḥ) - of austerity; देव (deva) - O god; यमस्य (yamasya) - of restraint; नियमस्य (niyamasya) - of observance; च (ca) - and; सद्यः (sadyaḥ) - immediately; फलम् (phalam) - fruit; अवाप्तं (avāptam) - obtained; वै (vai) - indeed; दृष्टः (dṛṣṭaḥ) - seen; यत् (yat) - which; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the blessed one; मया (mayā) - by me;]
(Today by me, O god, of austerity, of restraint, of observance and, immediately the fruit obtained indeed, seen which the blessed one by me.)
O god, today by me, the fruit of austerity, restraint, and observance has indeed been immediately obtained, for I have seen the blessed one. (3-326-15)
वर एष ममात्यन्तं दृष्टस्त्वं यत्सनातनः। भगवान्विश्वदृक्सिंहः सर्वमूर्तिर्महाप्रभुः ॥३-३२६-१६॥
vara eṣa mamatyantaṃ dṛṣṭastvaṃ yatsanātanaḥ। bhagavān viśvadṛk siṃhaḥ sarvamūrtir mahāprabhuḥ ॥3-326-16॥
[वर (vara) - boon; एष (eṣa) - this; मम (mama) - my; अत्यन्तं (atyantam) - completely; दृष्टः (dṛṣṭaḥ) - seen; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; यत् (yat) - which; सनातनः (sanātanaḥ) - eternal; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the Lord; विश्वदृक् (viśvadṛk) - all-seeing; सिंहः (siṃhaḥ) - lion; सर्वमूर्तिः (sarvamūrtiḥ) - of all forms; महाप्रभुः (mahāprabhuḥ) - great lord;]
(This boon, my completely seen you which eternal; the Lord, all-seeing lion, of all forms, great lord.)
This boon of mine, you who are completely seen and eternal; the Lord, the all-seeing lion, of all forms, the great lord. (3-326-16)

एवं संदर्शयित्वा तु नारदं परमेष्ठिजम्। उवाच वचनं भूयो गच्छ नारद माचिरम् ॥३-३२६-१७॥
evaṃ sandarśayitvā tu nāradaṃ parameṣṭhijam। uvāca vacanaṃ bhūyo gaccha nārada māciram ॥3-326-17॥
[एवं (evaṃ) - thus; संदर्शयित्वा (sandarśayitvā) - having shown; तु (tu) - but; नारदं (nāradaṃ) - Nārada; परमेष्ठिजम् (parameṣṭhijam) - son of Brahmā; उवाच (uvāca) - said; वचनं (vacanaṃ) - word; भूयः (bhūyaḥ) - again; गच्छ (gaccha) - go; नारद (nārada) - O Nārada; माचिरम् (māciram) - without delay;]
(Thus, having shown (it), but (to) Nārada, the son of Brahmā, (he) said the word again: "Go, O Nārada, without delay." (3-326-17))

इमे ह्यनिन्द्रियाहारा मद्भक्ताश्चन्द्रवर्चसः। एकाग्राश्चिन्तयेयुर्मां नैषां विघ्नो भवेदिति ॥३-३२६-१८॥
ime hy anindriyāhārā madbhaktāś candravarcasaḥ। ekāgrāś cintayeyur māṃ naiṣāṃ vighno bhaved iti ॥3-326-18॥
[इमे (ime) - these; हि (hi) - indeed; अनिन्द्रियाहाराः (anindriyāhārāḥ) - not-consuming-sense-objects; मद्भक्ताः (madbhaktāḥ) - my-devotees; चन्द्रवर्चसः (candravarcasaḥ) - moon-bright; एकाग्राः (ekāgrāḥ) - single-minded; चिन्तयेयुः (cintayeyuḥ) - should meditate; माम् (mām) - me; न (na) - not; एषाम् (eṣām) - of these; विघ्नः (vighnaḥ) - obstacle; भवेत् (bhavet) - would be; इति (iti) - thus;]
(These indeed not-consuming-sense-objects my-devotees moon-bright single-minded should meditate me not of these obstacle would be thus.)
These, indeed, my devotees who do not consume sense-objects, who are bright as the moon and single-minded, should meditate on me; for them, there would be no obstacle. (3-326-18)
सिद्धाश्चैते महाभागाः पुरा ह्येकान्तिनोऽभवन्। तमोरजोविनिर्मुक्ता मां प्रवेक्ष्यन्त्यसंशयम् ॥३-३२६-१९॥
siddhāś caite mahābhāgāḥ purā hy ekāntino 'bhavan। tamo-rajo-vinirmuktā māṃ pravekṣyanty asaṃśayam ॥3-326-19॥
[सिद्धाः (siddhāḥ) - accomplished ones; च (ca) - and; एते (ete) - these; महाभागाः (mahābhāgāḥ) - greatly fortunate ones; पुरा (purā) - formerly; हि (hi) - indeed; एकान्तिनः (ekāntinaḥ) - single-minded ones; अभवन् (abhavan) - became; तमः (tamaḥ) - darkness; रजः (rajaḥ) - passion; विनिर्मुक्ताः (vinirmuktāḥ) - completely freed; माम् (mām) - me; प्रवेक्ष्यन्ति (pravekṣyanti) - will enter; असंशयम् (asaṃśayam) - without doubt;]
(Accomplished ones and these greatly fortunate ones formerly indeed single-minded became; darkness passion completely freed me will enter without doubt;)
These accomplished and greatly fortunate ones were formerly single-minded; being completely freed from darkness and passion, they will undoubtedly enter me. (3-326-19)
न दृश्यश्चक्षुषा योऽसौ न स्पृश्यः स्पर्शनेन च। न घ्रेयश्चैव गन्धेन रसेन च विवर्जितः ॥३-३२६-२०॥
na dṛśyaś cakṣuṣā yo'sau na spṛśyaḥ sparśanena ca। na ghreyaś caiva gandhena rasena ca vivarjitaḥ ॥3-326-20॥

(Not visible by the eye is that one, not touchable by touch and not smellable and indeed by smell, by taste and also devoid.)
That one is not visible to the eye, not touchable by touch, not smellable by smell, and is devoid of taste as well. (3-326-20)
सत्त्वं रजस्तमश्चैव न गुणास्तं भजन्ति वै। यश्च सर्वगतः साक्षी लोकस्यात्मेति कथ्यते ॥३-३२६-२१॥
sattvaṃ rajastamaścaiva na guṇāstaṃ bhajanti vai। yaśca sarvagataḥ sākṣī lokasyātmeti kathyate ॥3-326-21॥

(Existence, activity, and darkness indeed not qualities him associate with indeed; who and all-pervading witness of the world self thus is said;)
Existence, activity, and darkness are not qualities that affect him indeed; he who is the all-pervading witness, the self of the world, is thus called. (3-326-21)
भूतग्रामशरीरेषु नश्यत्सु न विनश्यति। अजो नित्यः शाश्वतश्च निर्गुणो निष्कलस्तथा ॥३-३२६-२२॥
bhūtagrāmaśarīreṣu naśyatsu na vinaśyati. ajo nityaḥ śāśvataś ca nirguṇo niṣkalas tathā ॥3-326-22॥

(When the aggregate of beings in bodies is perishing, the unborn is not destroyed. The unborn, eternal, perpetual, and likewise without qualities, without parts.)
Even when the aggregate of beings in bodies perishes, the unborn remains undestroyed. The unborn is eternal, perpetual, without qualities, and without parts. (3-326-22)
द्विर्द्वादशेभ्यस्तत्त्वेभ्यः ख्यातो यः पञ्चविंशकः। पुरुषो निष्क्रियश्चैव ज्ञानदृश्यश्च कथ्यते ॥३-३२६-२३॥
dvirdvādaśebhyas tattvebhyaḥ khyāto yaḥ pañcaviṃśakaḥ। puruṣo niṣkriyaś caiva jñānadṛśyaś ca kathyate ॥3-326-23॥

(The one who is known as the twenty-fifth from the twice twelve principles, puruṣa, inactive and indeed the witness of knowledge, is said.)
The puruṣa, who is known as the twenty-fifth principle after the twenty-four (twice twelve) tattvas, is described as inactive and as the witness of knowledge. (3-326-23)
यं प्रविश्य भवन्तीह मुक्ता वै द्विजसत्तम। स वासुदेवो विज्ञेयः परमात्मा सनातनः ॥३-३२६-२४॥
yaṃ praviśya bhavantīha muktā vai dvijasattama। sa vāsudevo vijñeyaḥ paramātmā sanātanaḥ ॥3-326-24॥

(Whom having entered, become here liberated indeed, O best of twice-born; he (is) Vāsudeva, to be known (as) the supreme self, eternal.)
O best of the twice-born, he whom, upon entering, one becomes liberated here, is to be known as Vāsudeva, the eternal supreme self. (3-326-24)
पश्य देवस्य माहात्म्यं महिमानं च नारद। शुभाशुभैः कर्मभिर्यो न लिप्यति कदाचन ॥३-३२६-२५॥
paśya devasya māhātmyaṃ mahimānaṃ ca nārada। śubhāśubhaiḥ karmabhiryo na lipyati kadācana ॥3-326-25॥

O Nārada, behold the greatness and majesty of the god, who is never affected by auspicious or inauspicious actions. (3-326-25)
सत्त्वं रजस्तमश्चैव गुणानेतान्प्रचक्षते। एते सर्वशरीरेषु तिष्ठन्ति विचरन्ति च ॥३-३२६-२६॥
sattvaṃ rajastamaścaiva guṇānetānpracakṣate। ete sarvaśarīreṣu tiṣṭhanti vicaranti ca ॥3-326-26॥

(Existence, activity, and darkness indeed—these qualities they declare; these abide and move in all bodies.)
They declare that existence (sattva), activity (rajas), and darkness (tamas) are qualities; these qualities abide and move in all bodies. (3-326-26)
एतान्गुणांस्तु क्षेत्रज्ञो भुङ्क्ते नैभिः स भुज्यते। निर्गुणो गुणभुक्चैव गुणस्रष्टा गुणाधिकः ॥३-३२६-२७॥
etānguṇāṃstu kṣetrajño bhuṅkte naibhiḥ sa bhujyate. nirguṇo guṇabhukcaiva guṇasraṣṭā guṇādhikaḥ ॥3-326-27॥
[एतान् (etān) - these; (accusative plural masculine); गुणान् (guṇān) - qualities; (accusative plural masculine); तु (tu) - but; क्षेत्रज्ञः (kṣetrajñaḥ) - knower of the field; भुङ्क्ते (bhuṅkte) - enjoys; न (na) - not; एभिः (ebhiḥ) - by these; सः (saḥ) - he; भुज्यते (bhujyate) - is enjoyed; निर्गुणः (nirguṇaḥ) - without qualities; गुणभुक् (guṇabhuk) - enjoyer of qualities; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; गुणस्रष्टा (guṇasraṣṭā) - creator of qualities; गुणाधिकः (guṇādhikaḥ) - superior to qualities;]
(These qualities but the knower of the field enjoys; not by these he is enjoyed. Without qualities, enjoyer of qualities and indeed creator of qualities, superior to qualities.)
The knower of the field enjoys these qualities, but is not enjoyed by them. He is without qualities, yet the enjoyer of qualities, the creator of qualities, and is superior to the qualities. (3-326-27)
जगत्प्रतिष्ठा देवर्षे पृथिव्यप्सु प्रलीयते। ज्योतिष्यापः प्रलीयन्ते ज्योतिर्वायौ प्रलीयते ॥३-३२६-२८॥
jagatpratiṣṭhā devarṣe pṛthivyapsu pralīyate। jyotiṣyāpaḥ pralīyante jyotirvāyau pralīyate ॥3-326-28॥
[जगत्प्रतिष्ठा (jagatpratiṣṭhā) - foundation of the world; देवर्षे (devarṣe) - O divine sage; पृथिवि (pṛthivi) - earth; अप्सु (apsu) - in water; प्रलीयते (pralīyate) - is dissolved; ज्योतिषि (jyotiṣi) - in light; अपः (apaḥ) - waters; प्रलीयन्ते (pralīyante) - are dissolved; ज्योति (jyoti) - light; र्वायौ (rvāyau) - in air; प्रलीयते (pralīyate) - is dissolved;]
(Foundation of the world, O divine sage, the earth is dissolved in water; in light, waters are dissolved; light is dissolved in air.)
O divine sage, the foundation of the world—the earth—is dissolved in water; the waters are dissolved in light; and light is dissolved in air. (3-326-28)
खे वायुः प्रलयं याति मनस्याकाशमेव च। मनो हि परमं भूतं तदव्यक्ते प्रलीयते ॥३-३२६-२९॥
khe vāyuḥ pralayaṃ yāti manasy ākāśam eva ca। mano hi paramaṃ bhūtaṃ tad avyakte pralīyate ॥3-326-29॥
[खे (khe) - in space; वायुः (vāyuḥ) - wind; प्रलयं (pralayaṃ) - dissolution; याति (yāti) - goes; मनसि (manasi) - in the mind; आकाशम् (ākāśam) - ether; एव (eva) - indeed; च (ca) - and; मनो (mano) - mind; हि (hi) - indeed; परमं (paramaṃ) - supreme; भूतं (bhūtaṃ) - element; तत् (tat) - that; अव्यक्ते (avyakte) - in the unmanifest; प्रलीयते (pralīyate) - merges;]
(In space, wind goes to dissolution; in the mind, ether indeed and; mind indeed supreme element, that in the unmanifest merges.)
Wind dissolves in space; ether merges into the mind; the mind, which is indeed the supreme element, merges into the unmanifest. (3-326-29)
अव्यक्तं पुरुषे ब्रह्मन्निष्क्रिये सम्प्रलीयते। नास्ति तस्मात्परतरं पुरुषाद्वै सनातनात् ॥३-३२६-३०॥
avyaktaṃ puruṣe brahmanniṣkriye sampralīyate। nāsti tasmātparataraṃ puruṣādvai sanātanāt ॥3-326-30॥
[अव्यक्तं (avyaktaṃ) - unmanifested; पुरुषे (puruṣe) - in the Puruṣa; ब्रह्मन् (brahman) - O Brahman; निष्क्रिये (niṣkriye) - inactive; सम्प्रलीयते (sampralīyate) - is completely dissolved; नास्ति (nāsti) - there is not; तस्मात् (tasmāt) - than that; परतरं (parataraṃ) - higher; पुरुषात् (puruṣāt) - than the Puruṣa; वै (vai) - indeed; सनातनात् (sanātanāt) - from the eternal;]
(The unmanifested is completely dissolved in the inactive Puruṣa, O Brahman. There is not anything higher than that eternal Puruṣa indeed. (3-326-30))
O Brahman, the unmanifested merges completely into the inactive Puruṣa. Indeed, there is nothing higher than that eternal Puruṣa. (3-326-30)
नित्यं हि नास्ति जगति भूतं स्थावरजङ्गमम्। ऋते तमेकं पुरुषं वासुदेवं सनातनम् ॥ सर्वभूतात्मभूतो हि वासुदेवो महाबलः ॥३-३२६-३१॥
nityaṃ hi nāsti jagati bhūtaṃ sthāvarajaṅgamam। ṛte tamekaṃ puruṣaṃ vāsudevaṃ sanātanam ॥ sarvabhūtātmabhūto hi vāsudevo mahābalaḥ ॥3-326-31॥
[नित्यं (nityaṃ) - eternally; always; हि (hi) - indeed; surely; नास्ति (nāsti) - does not exist; जगति (jagati) - in the world; भूतं (bhūtaṃ) - being; entity; स्थावरजङ्गमम् (sthāvarajaṅgamam) - stationary and moving; ऋते (ṛte) - except; without; तम् (tam) - that; एकं (ekaṃ) - one; single; पुरुषं (puruṣaṃ) - person; being; वासुदेवं (vāsudevaṃ) - Vāsudeva; (Krishna); सनातनम् (sanātanam) - eternal; सर्वभूतात्मभूतः (sarvabhūtātmabhūtaḥ) - being the self of all beings; हि (hi) - indeed; surely; वासुदेवः (vāsudevaḥ) - Vāsudeva; (Krishna); महाबलः (mahābalaḥ) - of great strength;]
(Eternally indeed does not exist in the world any being, stationary or moving, except that one person, Vāsudeva, the eternal. Being the self of all beings indeed is Vāsudeva, of great strength.)
Truly, in this world, there is no being, whether stationary or moving, apart from that one eternal person, Vāsudeva. Vāsudeva, of great strength, is indeed the self of all beings. (3-326-31)
पृथिवी वायुराकाशमापो ज्योतिश्च पञ्चमम्। ते समेता महात्मानः शरीरमिति सञ्ज्ञितम् ॥३-३२६-३२॥
pṛthivī vāyur ākāśam āpo jyotiś ca pañcamam। te sametā mahātmānaḥ śarīram iti sañjñitam ॥3-326-32॥
[पृथिवी (pṛthivī) - earth; वायुः (vāyuḥ) - air; आकाशम् (ākāśam) - space; आपः (āpaḥ) - waters; ज्योतिः (jyotiḥ) - light; च (ca) - and; पञ्चमम् (pañcamam) - the fifth; ते (te) - they; समेता (sametā) - having come together; महात्मानः (mahātmānaḥ) - great elements; शरीरम् (śarīram) - body; इति (iti) - thus; सञ्ज्ञितम् (sañjñitam) - called;]
(Earth, air, space, waters, light and the fifth; these, having come together, the great elements, thus called the body.)
Earth, air, space, water, and light—the five great elements—when combined together, are called the body. (3-326-32)
तदाविशति यो ब्रह्मन्नदृश्यो लघुविक्रमः। उत्पन्न एव भवति शरीरं चेष्टयन्प्रभुः ॥३-३२६-३३॥
tadā viśati yaḥ brahman adṛśyaḥ laghuvikramaḥ। utpanna eva bhavati śarīraṃ ceṣṭayan prabhuḥ ॥3-326-33॥
[तदा (tadā) - then; at that time; विशति (viśati) - enters; penetrates; यः (yaḥ) - who; ब्रह्मन् (brahman) - O Brahman; O wise one; अदृश्यः (adṛśyaḥ) - unseen; invisible; लघुविक्रमः (laghuvikramaḥ) - of light stride; swift-moving; उत्पन्न (utpanna) - having arisen; born; एव (eva) - indeed; just; भवति (bhavati) - becomes; is; शरीरम् (śarīram) - body; चेष्टयन् (ceṣṭayan) - moving; causing to act; प्रभुः (prabhuḥ) - the lord; master;]
(Then enters who, O Brahman, the unseen, of light stride; having arisen indeed becomes, moving the body, the lord.)
Then, O Brahman, that unseen, swift-moving lord enters; as soon as he is born, he becomes the master, animating the body. (3-326-33)
न विना धातुसङ्घातं शरीरं भवति क्वचित्। न च जीवं विना ब्रह्मन्धातवश्चेष्टयन्त्युत ॥३-३२६-३४॥
na vinā dhātusaṅghātaṃ śarīraṃ bhavati kvacit। na ca jīvaṃ vinā brahmaṇ dhātavaś ceṣṭayanty uta ॥3-326-34॥
[न (na) - not; विना (vinā) - without; धातुसङ्घातं (dhātusaṅghātam) - aggregate of elements; शरीरं (śarīram) - body; भवति (bhavati) - arises; क्वचित् (kvacit) - anywhere; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; जीवं (jīvam) - life; विना (vinā) - without; ब्रह्मन् (brahman) - spirit; धातवः (dhātavaḥ) - elements; चेष्टयन्ति (ceṣṭayanti) - move; उत (uta) - indeed;]
(Not without aggregate of elements body arises anywhere. Not and life without spirit elements move indeed.)
Nowhere does a body arise without an aggregate of elements. Nor do the elements move without the spirit of life. (3-326-34)
स जीवः परिसङ्ख्यातः शेषः सङ्कर्षणः प्रभुः। तस्मात्सनत्कुमारत्वं यो लभेत स्वकर्मणा ॥३-३२६-३५॥
sa jīvaḥ parisaṅkhyātaḥ śeṣaḥ saṅkarṣaṇaḥ prabhuḥ। tasmātsanatkumāratvaṃ yo labheta svakarmaṇā ॥3-326-35॥
[स (sa) - he; जीवः (jīvaḥ) - living being; परिसङ्ख्यातः (parisaṅkhyātaḥ) - enumerated; शेषः (śeṣaḥ) - Śeṣa; सङ्कर्षणः (saṅkarṣaṇaḥ) - Saṅkarṣaṇa; प्रभुः (prabhuḥ) - lord; तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; सनत्कुमारत्वं (sanatkumāratvaṃ) - the state of Sanatkumāra; यः (yaḥ) - who; लभेत (labheta) - may obtain; स्वकर्मणा (svakarmaṇā) - by one's own action;]
(He, the living being, is enumerated as Śeṣa, Saṅkarṣaṇa, lord. Therefore, the state of Sanatkumāra, who may obtain by one's own action.)
He, the living being, is described as Śeṣa, Saṅkarṣaṇa, and lord. Therefore, whoever attains the state of Sanatkumāra by their own actions (3-326-35).
यस्मिंश्च सर्वभूतानि प्रलयं यान्ति सङ्क्षये। स मनः सर्वभूतानां प्रद्युम्नः परिपठ्यते ॥३-३२६-३६॥
yasmiṁś ca sarvabhūtāni pralayaṁ yānti saṅkṣaye। sa manaḥ sarvabhūtānāṁ pradyumnaḥ paripaṭhyate ॥3-326-36॥

(In which and all beings dissolution go at destruction; that mind of all beings Pradyumna is called;)
That in which all beings go to dissolution at the time of destruction, that mind of all beings is called Pradyumna. (3-326-36)
तस्मात्प्रसूतो यः कर्ता कार्यं कारणमेव च। यस्मात्सर्वं प्रभवति जगत्स्थावरजङ्गमम् ॥ सोऽनिरुद्धः स ईशानो व्यक्तिः सा सर्वकर्मसु ॥३-३२६-३७॥
tasmātprasūto yaḥ kartā kāryaṃ kāraṇameva ca। yasmātsarvaṃ prabhavati jagatsthāvarajaṅgamam ॥ so'niruddhaḥ sa īśāno vyaktiḥ sā sarvakarmasu ॥3-326-37॥
[तस्मात् (tasmāt) - from that; प्रसूतः (prasūtaḥ) - born; यः (yaḥ) - who; कर्ता (kartā) - doer; कार्यं (kāryam) - effect; कारणम् (kāraṇam) - cause; एव (eva) - indeed; च (ca) - and; यस्मात् (yasmāt) - from whom; सर्वं (sarvam) - all; प्रभवति (prabhavati) - arises; जगत् (jagat) - world; स्थावर (sthāvara) - immobile; जङ्गमम् (jaṅgamam) - mobile; सः (saḥ) - he; अनिरुद्धः (aniruddhaḥ) - Aniruddha; सः (saḥ) - he; ईशानः (īśānaḥ) - Īśāna; व्यक्तिः (vyaktiḥ) - manifestation; सा (sā) - she; सर्वकर्मसु (sarvakarmasu) - in all actions;]
(From that is born he who is the doer, the effect, and indeed the cause and; from whom all arises, the world, immobile and mobile. He is Aniruddha, he is Īśāna, the manifestation, she in all actions. (3-326-37))
From that arises the one who is the doer, the effect, and indeed the cause; from whom everything, the world of the immobile and mobile, comes forth. He is Aniruddha, he is Īśāna, the manifestation, she who is present in all actions. (3-326-37)
यो वासुदेवो भगवान्क्षेत्रज्ञो निर्गुणात्मकः। ज्ञेयः स एव भगवाञ्जीवः सङ्कर्षणः प्रभुः ॥३-३२६-३८॥
yo vāsudevo bhagavān kṣetrajño nirguṇātmakaḥ। jñeyaḥ sa eva bhagavāñ jīvaḥ saṅkarṣaṇaḥ prabhuḥ ॥3-326-38॥

मां प्रविश्य भवन्तीह मुक्ता भक्तास्तु ये मम। अहं हि पुरुषो ज्ञेयो निष्क्रियः पञ्चविंशकः ॥३-३२६-४१॥

(Without qualities, without parts, and indeed free from duality, without possessions; this by you not to be known as possessing form, thus is seen. Wishing, in an instant, I may disappear; I am the lord, the teacher of the world. (3-326-42))

māyā hyeṣā mayā sṛṣṭā yan māṃ paśyasi nārada। sarvabhūtaguṇair yuktaṃ naivaṃ tvaṃ jñātum arhasi ॥ mayaitat kathitaṃ samyak tava mūrticatuṣṭayam ॥3-326-43॥

सिद्धा ह्येते महाभागा नरा ह्येकान्तिनोऽभवन्। तमोरजोभ्यां निर्मुक्ताः प्रवेक्ष्यन्ति च मां मुने ॥३-३२६-४४॥
siddhā hyete mahābhāgā narā hyekāntino'bhavan। tamorajobhyāṁ nirmuktāḥ pravekṣyanti ca māṁ mune ॥3-326-44॥

अहं कर्ता च कार्यं च कारणं चापि नारद। अहं हि जीवसञ्ज्ञो वै मयि जीवः समाहितः ॥ मैवं ते बुद्धिरत्राभूद्दृष्टो जीवो मयेति च ॥३-३२६-४५॥
ahaṃ kartā ca kāryaṃ ca kāraṇaṃ cāpi nārada। ahaṃ hi jīvasañjño vai mayi jīvaḥ samāhitaḥ ॥ maivaṃ te buddhir atrābhūd dṛṣṭo jīvo mayeti ca ॥3-326-45॥

(I am the doer and the action and the cause also, O Nārada. I indeed am truly designated as 'jīva'; in me the living being is established. Not thus should your understanding be here, that the living being is seen in me.)
O Nārada, I am the doer, the action, and the cause as well. I am indeed truly called the 'jīva'; the living being is established in me. Therefore, your understanding here should not be that the jīva is seen as separate from me. (3-326-45)
अहं सर्वत्रगो ब्रह्मन्भूतग्रामान्तरात्मकः। भूतग्रामशरीरेषु नश्यत्सु न नशाम्यहम् ॥३-३२६-४६॥
ahaṃ sarvatrago brahman bhūtagrāmāntarātmakaḥ। bhūtagrāmaśarīreṣu naśyatsu na naśāmy aham ॥3-326-46॥

(I, who go everywhere, O Brahman, having the inner self of the group of beings; in the bodies of the group of beings, when (they are) perishing, I do not perish.)
O Brahman, I am present everywhere and am the inner self of all beings; even when the bodies of beings perish, I do not perish. (3-326-46)
हिरण्यगर्भो लोकादिश्चतुर्वक्त्रो निरुक्तगः। ब्रह्मा सनातनो देवो मम बह्वर्थचिन्तकः ॥३-३२६-४७॥
hiraṇyagarbho lokādiścaturvaktro niruktagaḥ। brahmā sanātano devo mama bahvarthacintakaḥ ॥3-326-47॥

मया सृष्टः पुरा ब्रह्मा मद्यज्ञमयजत्स्वयम्। ततस्तस्मै वरान्प्रीतो ददावहमनुत्तमान् ॥३-३२६-५७॥

Brahmā, whom I had created long ago, himself performed my sacrifice. Then, being pleased, I gave him unsurpassed boons. (3-326-57)
मत्पुत्रत्वं च कल्पादौ लोकाध्यक्षत्वमेव च। अहङ्कारकृतं चैव नाम पर्यायवाचकम् ॥३-३२६-५८॥
matputratvaṃ ca kalpādau lokādhyakṣatvameva ca। ahaṅkārakṛtaṃ caiva nāma paryāyavācakam ॥3-326-58॥

(My son-ness and at the beginning of a kalpa, the state of being the overseer of the worlds indeed and the name made by ego and indeed, a synonymous word.)

त्वया कृतां च मर्यादां नातिक्राम्यति कश्चन। त्वं चैव वरदो ब्रह्मन्वरेप्सूनां भविष्यसि ॥३-३२६-५९॥
tvayā kṛtāṃ ca maryādāṃ nātikrāmyati kaścana। tvaṃ caiva varado brahman varepsūnāṃ bhaviṣyasi ॥3-326-59॥
[त्वया (tvayā) - by you; कृतां (kṛtām) - made; च (ca) - and; मर्यादां (maryādām) - boundary; न (na) - not; अतिक्राम्यति (atikrāmyati) - transgresses; कश्चन (kaścana) - anyone; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; वरदः (varadaḥ) - bestower of boons; ब्रह्मन् (brahman) - O Brahman; वरेप्सूनां (varepsūnām) - of those desiring boons; भविष्यसि (bhaviṣyasi) - you will be;]
(By you made and boundary not transgresses anyone. You and indeed bestower of boons O Brahman of those desiring boons you will be.)
No one will transgress the boundary made by you. And you, O Brahman, will indeed be the bestower of boons to those who desire boons. (3-326-59)
सुरासुरगणानां च ऋषीणां च तपोधन। पितॄणां च महाभाग सततं संशितव्रत ॥ विविधानां च भूतानां त्वमुपास्यो भविष्यसि ॥३-३२६-६०॥
surāsuragaṇānāṃ ca ṛṣīṇāṃ ca tapodhana. pitṝṇāṃ ca mahābhāga satataṃ saṃśitavrata ॥ vividhānāṃ ca bhūtānāṃ tvamupāsyo bhaviṣyasi ॥3-326-60॥

(Of the groups of gods and demons and of sages and those rich in austerity, of ancestors and, O greatly fortunate one, always firm in vow; of various beings also, you will become to be worshipped.)
O greatly fortunate one, you, always firm in your vow, will become worthy of worship by the groups of gods and demons, sages rich in austerity, ancestors, and various beings. (3-326-60)
प्रादुर्भावगतश्चाहं सुरकार्येषु नित्यदा। अनुशास्यस्त्वया ब्रह्मन्नियोज्यश्च सुतो यथा ॥३-३२६-६१॥
prādurbhāvagataś cāhaṃ surakāryeṣu nityadā। anuśāsyas tvayā brahman niyojyaś ca suto yathā ॥3-326-61॥

O Brahman, having come into manifestation, I am always present in the works of the gods; your son is to be instructed and employed by you as appropriate. (3-326-61)
एतांश्चान्यांश्च रुचिरान्ब्रह्मणेऽमिततेजसे। अहं दत्त्वा वरान्प्रीतो निवृत्तिपरमोऽभवम् ॥३-३२६-६२॥
etāṁś cānyāṁś ca rucirān brahmaṇe'mitatejase। ahaṁ dattvā varān prīto nivṛttiparamo'bhavam ॥3-326-62॥

Having given these and other splendid boons to Brahmā of immeasurable splendor, I became pleased and supremely withdrawn. (3-326-62)
निर्वाणं सर्वधर्माणां निवृत्तिः परमा स्मृता। तस्मान्निवृत्तिमापन्नश्चरेत्सर्वाङ्गनिर्वृतः ॥३-३२६-६३॥
nirvāṇaṃ sarvadharmāṇāṃ nivṛttiḥ paramā smṛtā। tasmānnivṛttimāpannaś caret sarvāṅganirvṛtaḥ ॥3-326-63॥
[निर्वाणं (nirvāṇam) - extinction; release; liberation; सर्वधर्माणां (sarvadharmāṇām) - of all dharmas; of all phenomena; निवृत्तिः (nivṛttiḥ) - cessation; withdrawal; परमा (paramā) - supreme; highest; स्मृता (smṛtā) - is considered; is remembered; तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; hence; निवृत्तिम् (nivṛttim) - cessation; withdrawal; आपन्नः (āpannaḥ) - having attained; having reached; चरेत् (caret) - should act; should conduct oneself; सर्वाङ्ग (sarvāṅga) - with all limbs; wholly; निर्वृतः (nirvṛtaḥ) - at peace; contented;]
(Extinction of all dharmas is considered the supreme cessation; therefore, having attained cessation, one should act wholly at peace.)

विद्यासहायवन्तं मामादित्यस्थं सनातनम्। कपिलं प्राहुराचार्याः साङ्ख्यनिश्चितनिश्चयाः ॥३-३२६-६४॥
vidyāsahāyavantaṃ mām ādityasthaṃ sanātanam। kapilaṃ prāhur ācāryāḥ sāṅkhyanishcitanishcayāḥ ॥3-326-64॥

(Knowledge-endowed with assistance me situated in the sun eternal Kapila they call teachers those whose determination is fixed on Sāṅkhya.)
The teachers whose resolve is firmly established in Sāṅkhya call me, Kapila, who is eternal, situated in the sun, and endowed with the aid of knowledge. (3-326-64)
हिरण्यगर्भो भगवानेष छन्दसि सुष्टुतः। सोऽहं योगगतिर्ब्रह्मन्योगशास्त्रेषु शब्दितः ॥३-३२६-६५॥
hiraṇyagarbho bhagavāneṣa chandasi suṣṭutaḥ। so'haṃ yogagatirbrahmanyogaśāstreṣu śabditaḥ ॥3-326-65॥

एषोऽहं व्यक्तिमागम्य तिष्ठामि दिवि शाश्वतः। ततो युगसहस्रान्ते संहरिष्ये जगत्पुनः ॥ कृत्वात्मस्थानि भूतानि स्थावराणि चराणि च ॥३-३२६-६६॥
eṣo'ham vyaktim āgamya tiṣṭhāmi divi śāśvataḥ। tato yugasahasrānte saṃhariṣye jagat punaḥ ॥ kṛtvā ātmasthāni bhūtāni sthāvarāṇi carāṇi ca ॥3-326-66॥

(This I, having attained manifest form, remain in heaven eternally; then, at the end of a thousand yugas, I will withdraw the world again, having placed the beings, immobile and mobile, in my own place.)
I, having assumed this manifest form, dwell eternally in heaven; then, at the end of a thousand yugas, I will again withdraw the world, having placed all beings, both immobile and mobile, into my own abode. (3-326-66)
एकाकी विद्यया सार्धं विहरिष्ये द्विजोत्तम। ततो भूयो जगत्सर्वं करिष्यामीह विद्यया ॥३-३२६-६७॥
ekākī vidyayā sārdhaṃ vihariṣye dvijottama। tato bhūyo jagatsarvaṃ kariṣyāmiha vidyayā ॥3-326-67॥

(Alone, with knowledge, together, I shall dwell, O best of twice-born; then again, all the world, I shall do here, by knowledge.)

अस्मन्मूर्तिश्चतुर्थी या सासृजच्छेषमव्ययम्। स हि सङ्कर्षणः प्रोक्तः प्रद्युम्नं सोऽप्यजीजनत् ॥३-३२६-६८॥
asmanmūrtiś caturthī yā sā sṛjac cheṣam avyayam। sa hi saṅkarṣaṇaḥ proktaḥ pradyumnaṃ so'py ajījanat ॥3-326-68॥

From Pradyumna comes Aniruddha; I am the creation, again and again. From Aniruddha likewise comes Brahmā, there at the beginning, who originated from the lotus. (3-326-69)
ब्रह्मणः सर्वभूतानि चराणि स्थावराणि च। एतां सृष्टिं विजानीहि कल्पादिषु पुनः पुनः ॥३-३२६-७०॥
brahmaṇaḥ sarvabhūtāni carāṇi sthāvarāṇi ca। etāṃ sṛṣṭiṃ vijānīhi kalpādiṣu punaḥ punaḥ ॥3-326-70॥

(Of Brahman all beings moving non-moving and; this creation know in the beginnings of kalpas again again.)
Know that all moving and non-moving beings are the creation of Brahman; this creation occurs again and again at the beginning of each kalpa. (3-326-70)
यथा सूर्यस्य गगनादुदयास्तमयाविह। नष्टौ पुनर्बलात्काल आनयत्यमितद्युतिः ॥ तथा बलादहं पृथ्वीं सर्वभूतहिताय वै ॥३-३२६-७१॥
yathā sūryasya gaganād udayāstamayāviha। naṣṭau punar balāt kāla ānayaty amita-dyutiḥ ॥ tathā balād ahaṃ pṛthvīṃ sarva-bhūta-hitāya vai ॥3-326-71॥
[यथा (yathā) - just as; सूर्यस्य (sūryasya) - of the sun; गगनात् (gaganāt) - from the sky; उदयास्तमयौ (udayāstamayau) - rising and setting; अविह (aviha) - here; नष्टौ (naṣṭau) - lost; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; बलात् (balāt) - by force; कालः (kālaḥ) - time; आनयति (ānayati) - brings; अमितद्युतिः (amita-dyutiḥ) - of immeasurable radiance; तथा (tathā) - so; बलात् (balāt) - by force; अहम् (aham) - I; पृथ्वीम् (pṛthvīm) - the earth; सर्वभूतहिताय (sarva-bhūta-hitāya) - for the welfare of all beings; वै (vai) - indeed;]
(Just as, of the sun, from the sky, rising and setting, here, lost, again, by force, time, brings, of immeasurable radiance; so, by force, I, the earth, for the welfare of all beings, indeed.)
Just as time, by force, brings back the sun of immeasurable radiance, whose rising and setting are lost here from the sky, so too, by force, I will bring back the earth for the welfare of all beings. (3-326-71)
सत्त्वैराक्रान्तसर्वाङ्गां नष्टां सागरमेखलाम्। आनयिष्यामि स्वं स्थानं वाराहं रूपमास्थितः ॥३-३२६-७२॥
sattvair ākrānta-sarvāṅgāṃ naṣṭāṃ sāgara-mekhalām। ānayiṣyāmi svaṃ sthānaṃ vārāhaṃ rūpam āsthitaḥ ॥3-326-72॥
[सत्त्वैः (sattvaiḥ) - by strengths; आक्रान्त (ākrānta) - overpowered; सर्वाङ्गां (sarvāṅgām) - all-limbed; नष्टां (naṣṭām) - lost; सागरमेखलाम् (sāgara-mekhalām) - ocean-girdled; आनयिष्यामि (ānayiṣyāmi) - I shall bring; स्वं (svaṃ) - own; स्थानं (sthānam) - place; वाराहं (vārāham) - boar; रूपम् (rūpam) - form; आस्थितः (āsthitaḥ) - having assumed;]
(By strengths overpowered all-limbed lost ocean-girdled, I shall bring own place, boar form having assumed.)
Having assumed the form of a boar, I shall bring back to her own place the lost earth, whose every limb has been overpowered by strengths and is girdled by the ocean. (3-326-72)
हिरण्याक्षं हनिष्यामि दैतेयं बलगर्वितम्। नारसिंहं वपुः कृत्वा हिरण्यकशिपुं पुनः ॥ सुरकार्ये हनिष्यामि यज्ञघ्नं दितिनन्दनम् ॥३-३२६-७३॥
hiraṇyākṣaṃ haniṣyāmi daiteyaṃ balagarvitam। nāra-siṃhaṃ vapuḥ kṛtvā hiraṇyakaśipuṃ punaḥ ॥ surakārye haniṣyāmi yajñaghnaṃ ditinandanam ॥3-326-73॥

विरोचनस्य बलवान्बलिः पुत्रो महासुरः। भविष्यति स शक्रं च स्वराज्याच्च्यावयिष्यति ॥३-३२६-७४॥
virocanasya balavān baliḥ putro mahāsuraḥ। bhaviṣyati sa śakraṃ ca svarājyāc cyāvayiṣyati ॥3-326-74॥

त्रैलोक्येऽपहृते तेन विमुखे च शचीपतौ। अदित्यां द्वादशः पुत्रः सम्भविष्यामि कश्यपात् ॥३-३२६-७५॥
trailokye'pahṛte tena vimukhe ca śacīpatau। adityāṃ dvādaśaḥ putraḥ sambhaviṣyāmi kaśyapāt॥3-326-75॥
[त्रैलोक्ये (trailokye) - in the three worlds; अपहृते (apahṛte) - having been taken away; तेन (tena) - by him; विमुखे (vimukhe) - turned away; च (ca) - and; शचीपतौ (śacīpatau) - in the lord of Śacī (Indra); अदित्यां (adityāṃ) - in Aditi; द्वादशः (dvādaśaḥ) - twelfth; पुत्रः (putraḥ) - son; सम्भविष्यामि (sambhaviṣyāmi) - I shall be born; कश्यपात् (kaśyapāt) - from Kaśyapa;]
(In the three worlds having been taken away, with him turned away and in the lord of Śacī, in Aditi, as the twelfth son, I shall be born from Kaśyapa.)
When the three worlds have been taken away and Indra, the lord of Śacī, has turned away, I shall be born as the twelfth son in Aditi, from Kaśyapa. (3-326-75)
ततो राज्यं प्रदास्यामि शक्रायामिततेजसे। देवताः स्थापयिष्यामि स्वेषु स्थानेषु नारद ॥ बलिं चैव करिष्यामि पातालतलवासिनम् ॥३-३२६-७६॥
tato rājyaṃ pradāsyāmi śakrāyāmitatejase। devatāḥ sthāpayiṣyāmi sveṣu sthāneṣu nārada ॥ baliṃ caiva kariṣyāmi pātālatalavāsinam ॥3-326-76॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; राज्यम् (rājyaṃ) - kingdom; प्रदास्यामि (pradāsyāmi) - I shall give; शक्राय (śakrāya) - to Śakra; अमिततेजसे (amitatejase) - of immeasurable brilliance; देवताः (devatāḥ) - the gods; स्थापयिष्यामि (sthāpayiṣyāmi) - I shall establish; स्वेषु (sveṣu) - in their own; स्थानेषु (sthāneṣu) - places; नारद (nārada) - O Nārada; बलिम् (baliṃ) - Bali; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; करिष्यामि (kariṣyāmi) - I shall make; पातालतलवासिनम् (pātālatalavāsinam) - dweller of the netherworld;]
(Then the kingdom I shall give to Śakra of immeasurable brilliance. The gods I shall establish in their own places, O Nārada. Bali also indeed I shall make a dweller of the netherworld. (3-326-76))
Then I will give the kingdom to Śakra, who possesses immeasurable brilliance. I will establish the gods in their respective places, O Nārada. And I will consign Bali to dwell in the netherworld. (3-326-76)
त्रेतायुगे भविष्यामि रामो भृगुकुलोद्वहः। क्षत्रं चोत्सादयिष्यामि समृद्धबलवाहनम् ॥३-३२६-७७॥
tretāyuge bhaviṣyāmi rāmo bhṛgukulodvahaḥ। kṣatraṃ cotsādayiṣyāmi samṛddhabalavāhanam ॥3-326-77॥
[त्रेतायुगे (tretāyuge) - in the Tretā age; भविष्यामि (bhaviṣyāmi) - I shall become; रामः (rāmaḥ) - Rāma; भृगुकुलोद्वहः (bhṛgukulodvahaḥ) - the exalted of the Bhṛgu lineage; क्षत्रम् (kṣatram) - the kṣatriya class; च (ca) - and; उत्सादयिष्यामि (utsādayiṣyāmi) - I shall destroy; समृद्धबलवाहनम् (samṛddhabalavāhanam) - possessing abundant strength and vehicles;]
(In the Tretā age, I shall become Rāma, the exalted of the Bhṛgu lineage; the kṣatriya class and I shall destroy, possessing abundant strength and vehicles.)
In the Tretā age, I will incarnate as Rāma, the illustrious one of the Bhṛgu lineage, and I will destroy the kṣatriya class, which possesses great strength and armies. (3-326-77)
सन्धौ तु समनुप्राप्ते त्रेतायां द्वापरस्य च। रामो दाशरथिर्भूत्वा भविष्यामि जगत्पतिः ॥३-३२६-७८॥
sandhau tu samanuprāpte tretāyāṃ dvāparasya ca। rāmo dāśarathirbhūtvā bhaviṣyāmi jagatpatiḥ ॥3-326-78॥
[सन्धौ (sandhau) - at the junction; तु (tu) - but; समनुप्राप्ते (samanuprāpte) - having been fully reached; त्रेतायाम् (tretāyām) - in the Tretā (age); द्वापरस्य (dvāparasya) - of Dvāpara (age); च (ca) - and; रामः (rāmaḥ) - Rāma; दाशरथिः (dāśarathiḥ) - son of Daśaratha; भूत्वा (bhūtvā) - having become; भविष्यामि (bhaviṣyāmi) - I shall become; जगत्पतिः (jagatpatiḥ) - lord of the world;]
(At the junction but having been fully reached in the Tretā (age) of Dvāpara (age) and Rāma, son of Daśaratha, having become, I shall become lord of the world.)
But at the junction, when the Tretā and Dvāpara ages have fully arrived, I shall become Rāma, the son of Daśaratha, and the lord of the world. (3-326-78)
त्रितोपघाताद्वैरूप्यमेकतोऽथ द्वितस्तथा। प्राप्स्यतो वानरत्वं हि प्रजापतिसुतावृषी ॥३-३२६-७९॥
tritopaghātād vairūpyam ekato'tha dvitastathā। prāpsyato vānaratvaṃ hi prajāpatisutāv ṛṣī ॥3-326-79॥
[त्रित (trit) - Trita; (a sage's name); उपघातात् (upaghātāt) - from injury; from harm; वैरूप्यम् (vairūpyam) - deformity; disfigurement; एकतः (ekataḥ) - on one side; from one; अथ (atha) - then; now; द्वितः (dvitaḥ) - from the second; on the other side; तथा (tathā) - likewise; thus; प्राप्स्यतः (prāpsyataḥ) - you two will obtain; you two will get; वानरत्वम् (vānaratvam) - monkey-hood; the state of being a monkey; हि (hi) - indeed; surely; प्रजापति (prajāpati) - Prajapati; lord of creatures; सुतौ (sutau) - two sons; ऋषी (ṛṣī) - sages;]
(From the injury by Trita, deformity on one side, then from the second likewise; you two will obtain monkey-hood indeed, O sages, sons of Prajapati.)
Because of the harm caused by Trita, you two, O sages who are sons of Prajapati, will become deformed on one side, and likewise from the second; thus, you both will attain the state of being monkeys. (3-326-79)
तयोर्ये त्वन्वये जाता भविष्यन्ति वनौकसः। ते सहाया भविष्यन्ति सुरकार्ये मम द्विज ॥३-३२६-८०॥
tayorye tvanvaye jātā bhaviṣyanti vanaukasaḥ। te sahāyā bhaviṣyanti surakārye mama dvija ॥3-326-80॥
[तयोः (tayoḥ) - of those two; ये (ye) - who; त्व् (tv) - indeed; अन्वये (anvaye) - in the lineage; जाता (jātā) - born; भविष्यन्ति (bhaviṣyanti) - will be; वनौकसः (vanaukasaḥ) - forest-dwellers; ते (te) - they; सहाया (sahāyā) - helpers; भविष्यन्ति (bhaviṣyanti) - will be; सुरकार्ये (surakārye) - in the work of the gods; मम (mama) - my; द्विज (dvija) - O twice-born;]
(Of those two, who indeed are born in the lineage, will be forest-dwellers; they will be helpers in the work of the gods, my O twice-born.)
O twice-born, those who are born in the lineage of those two and live in the forest will become my helpers in the work of the gods. (3-326-80)
ततो रक्षःपतिं घोरं पुलस्त्यकुलपांसनम्। हनिष्ये रावणं सङ्ख्ये सगणं लोककण्टकम् ॥३-३२६-८१॥
tato rakṣaḥpatiṃ ghoraṃ pulastyakulapāṃsanam। haniṣye rāvaṇaṃ saṅkhye sagaṇaṃ lokakaṇṭakam ॥3-326-81॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; रक्षःपतिम् (rakṣaḥpatim) - lord of the rākṣasas; घोरम् (ghoram) - terrible; पुलस्त्यकुलपांसनम् (pulastyakulapāṃsanam) - disgrace of the Pulastya lineage; हनिष्ये (haniṣye) - I shall slay; रावणम् (rāvaṇam) - Rāvaṇa; सङ्ख्ये (saṅkhye) - in battle; सगणम् (sagaṇam) - with his retinue; लोककण्टकम् (lokakaṇṭakam) - thorn of the worlds;]
(Then the lord of the rākṣasas, the terrible, disgrace of the Pulastya lineage, I shall slay Rāvaṇa in battle, with his retinue, the thorn of the worlds.)
Then I shall slay Rāvaṇa, the terrible lord of the rākṣasas, the disgrace of the Pulastya lineage, the thorn of the worlds, together with his retinue, in battle. (3-326-81)
द्वापरस्य कलेश्चैव सन्धौ पर्यवसानिके। प्रादुर्भावः कंसहेतोर्मथुरायां भविष्यति ॥३-३२६-८२॥
dvāparasya kaleścaiva sandhau paryavasānike। prādurbhāvaḥ kaṁsahetormathurāyāṁ bhaviṣyati ॥3-326-82॥
[द्वापरस्य (dvāparasya) - of Dvāpara (the third age); कलेः (kaleḥ) - of Kali (the fourth age); च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; सन्धौ (sandhau) - at the junction; पर्यवसानिके (paryavasānike) - at the conclusion; प्रादुर्भावः (prādurbhāvaḥ) - appearance; कंसहेतोः (kaṁsahetoḥ) - for the sake of Kaṁsa; मथुरायाम् (mathurāyām) - in Mathurā; भविष्यति (bhaviṣyati) - will be;]
(Of Dvāpara, of Kali and indeed at the junction at the conclusion, appearance for the sake of Kaṁsa in Mathurā will be.)
At the junction of Dvāpara and Kali, at the conclusion, there will be an appearance in Mathurā for the sake of Kaṁsa. (3-326-82)
तत्राहं दानवान्हत्वा सुबहून्देवकण्टकान्। कुशस्थलीं करिष्यामि निवासं द्वारकां पुरीम् ॥३-३२६-८३॥
tatrāhaṃ dānavānhatvā subahūndevakaṇṭakān। kuśasthalīṃ kariṣyāmi nivāsaṃ dvārakāṃ purīm ॥3-326-83॥
[तत्र (tatra) - there; अहम् (aham) - I; दानवान् (dānavān) - demons; हत्वा (hatvā) - having slain; सुबहून् (subahūn) - many; देवकण्टकान् (devakaṇṭakān) - thorns of the gods; कुशस्थलीम् (kuśasthalīm) - Kuśasthalī; करिष्यामि (kariṣyāmi) - I will make; निवासम् (nivāsam) - abode; द्वारकां (dvārakāṃ) - Dvārakā; पुरीम् (purīm) - city;]
(There I, having slain the demons, many thorns of the gods, will make Kuśasthalī, Dvārakā city, an abode.)
There, having slain the demons, the many thorns of the gods, I will make Kuśasthalī, the city of Dvārakā, my abode. (3-326-83)
वसानस्तत्र वै पुर्यामदितेर्विप्रियङ्करम्। हनिष्ये नरकं भौमं मुरं पीठं च दानवम् ॥३-३२६-८४॥
vasānas tatra vai puryām aditervipriyaṅkaram। haniṣye narakaṃ bhaumaṃ muraṃ pīṭhaṃ ca dānavam ॥3-326-84॥
[वसानः (vasānaḥ) - dwelling; residing; तत्र (tatra) - there; वै (vai) - indeed; पुर्याम् (puryām) - in the city; अदितेः (aditeḥ) - of Aditi; विप्रियङ्करम् (vipriyaṅkaram) - causing displeasure; हनिष्ये (haniṣye) - I shall slay; नरकं (narakaṃ) - Naraka; भौमं (bhaumaṃ) - son of Bhūmi (Earth); मुरं (muraṃ) - Mura; पीठं (pīṭham) - Pīṭha; च (ca) - and; दानवम् (dānavam) - the demon;]
(Dwelling there indeed in the city, causing displeasure to Aditi, I shall slay Naraka, the son of Bhūmi, Mura, Pīṭha, and the demon.)
While residing there in the city, who caused displeasure to Aditi, I will slay Naraka, the son of Bhūmi, as well as Mura, Pīṭha, and the demon. (3-326-84)
प्राग्ज्योतिषपुरं रम्यं नानाधनसमन्वितम्। कुशस्थलीं नयिष्यामि हत्वा वै दानवोत्तमान् ॥३-३२६-८५॥
prāgjyotiṣapuraṃ ramyaṃ nānādhana-samanvitam। kuśasthalīṃ nayiṣyāmi hatvā vai dānavottamān ॥3-326-85॥
[प्राक् (prāk) - eastward; before; ज्योतिष (jyotiṣa) - of light; shining; पुरम् (puram) - city; रम्यम् (ramyam) - beautiful; delightful; नाना (nānā) - various; many; धन (dhana) - wealth; riches; समन्वितम् (samanvitam) - endowed with; furnished with; कुशस्थलीम् (kuśasthalīm) - Kuśasthalī; (name of a city); नयिष्यामि (nayiṣyāmi) - I will lead; I will bring; हत्वा (hatvā) - having slain; after killing; वै (vai) - indeed; truly; दानवोत्तमान् (dānavottamān) - the foremost Dānavas; best of the Dānavas;]
(To the eastern city of light, beautiful, endowed with various riches, to Kuśasthalī, I will lead (you), having slain indeed the foremost Dānavas.)
I will lead (you) to the beautiful city of Prāgjyotiṣapura, endowed with many kinds of wealth, to Kuśasthalī, after having slain the foremost of the Dānavas. (3-326-85)
शङ्करं च महासेनं बाणप्रियहितैषिणम्। पराजेष्याम्यथोद्युक्तौ देवलोकनमस्कृतौ ॥३-३२६-८६॥
śaṅkaraṃ ca mahāsenaṃ bāṇapriyahitaiṣiṇam। parājeṣyāmyathodyuktau devalokanamaskṛtau ॥3-326-86॥
[शङ्करं (śaṅkaraṃ) - Śaṅkara; (Śiva); च (ca) - and; महासेनं (mahāsenaṃ) - Mahāsena; (Kārttikeya); बाणप्रियहितैषिणम् (bāṇapriya-hita-iṣiṇam) - desiring the welfare of Bāṇa's beloved; (one who seeks the good of Bāṇa's dear one); पराजेष्यामि (parājeṣyāmi) - I shall defeat; अथ (atha) - then; उद्युक्तौ (udyuktau) - prepared; (ready); देवलोकनमस्कृतौ (devaloka-namaskṛtau) - revered by the world of gods; (saluted by the divine realms);]
(Śaṅkara and Mahāsena, desiring the welfare of Bāṇa's beloved, I shall defeat, then, (those) prepared, revered by the world of gods.)
I shall defeat Śaṅkara and Mahāsena, who seek the welfare of Bāṇa's beloved, even though they are prepared and revered by the world of gods. (3-326-86)
ततः सुतं बलेर्जित्वा बाणं बाहुसहस्रिणम्। विनाशयिष्यामि ततः सर्वान्सौभनिवासिनः ॥३-३२६-८७॥
tataḥ sutaṃ baler jitvā bāṇaṃ bāhu-sahasriṇam। vināśayiṣyāmi tataḥ sarvān saubha-nivāsinaḥ ॥3-326-87॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; from that; सुतं (sutaṃ) - son; offspring; बलेः (baleḥ) - of Bali; जित्वा (jitvā) - having conquered; after defeating; बाणं (bāṇam) - Bāṇa; (proper name); बाहुसहस्रिणम् (bāhu-sahasriṇam) - with a thousand arms; विनाशयिष्यामि (vināśayiṣyāmi) - I will destroy; ततः (tataḥ) - then; from that; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; सौभनिवासिनः (saubha-nivāsinaḥ) - inhabitants of Saubha;]
(Then, having conquered the son of Bali, Bāṇa with a thousand arms, I will destroy then all the inhabitants of Saubha.)
Then, after defeating Bāṇa, the son of Bali who has a thousand arms, I will destroy all the inhabitants of Saubha. (3-326-87)
यः कालयवनः ख्यातो गर्गतेजोभिसंवृतः। भविष्यति वधस्तस्य मत्त एव द्विजोत्तम ॥३-३२६-८८॥
yaḥ kālayavanaḥ khyāto gargatejobhisaṁvṛtaḥ। bhaviṣyati vadhastasya matta eva dvijottama ॥3-326-88॥
[यः (yaḥ) - who; कालयवनः (kālayavanaḥ) - Kālayavana; ख्यातः (khyātaḥ) - famous; गर्गतेजोभिः (gargatejobhiḥ) - by the energies of Garga; संवृतः (saṁvṛtaḥ) - surrounded; भविष्यति (bhaviṣyati) - will be; वधः (vadhaḥ) - slaying; तस्य (tasya) - of him; मत्त (matta) - by me; एव (eva) - indeed; द्विजोत्तम (dvijottama) - O best of the twice-born;]
(Who Kālayavana, famous, surrounded by the energies of Garga, will be slaying of him by me indeed, O best of the twice-born.)
O best of the twice-born, Kālayavana, who is famous and surrounded by the energies of Garga, will be slain by me. (3-326-88)
जरासन्धश्च बलवान्सर्वराजविरोधकः। भविष्यत्यसुरः स्फीतो भूमिपालो गिरिव्रजे ॥ मम बुद्धिपरिस्पन्दाद्वधस्तस्य भविष्यति ॥३-३२६-८९॥
jarāsandhaś ca balavān sarva-rāja-virodhakaḥ। bhaviṣyaty asuraḥ sphīto bhūmipālo girivraje ॥ mama buddhi-parispandād vadhas tasya bhaviṣyati ॥3-326-89॥
[जरासन्धः (jarāsandhaḥ) - Jarāsandha; (proper name); च (ca) - and; बलवान् (balavān) - strong; सर्वराजविरोधकः (sarva-rāja-virodhakaḥ) - opposer of all kings; भविष्यति (bhaviṣyati) - will be; असुरः (asuraḥ) - demon; स्फीतः (sphītaḥ) - prosperous; भूमिपालः (bhūmipālaḥ) - king; गिरिव्रजे (girivraje) - in Girivraja; मम (mama) - my; बुद्धिपरिस्पन्दात् (buddhi-parispandāt) - from the movement of (my) intellect; वधः (vadhaḥ) - slaying; तस्य (tasya) - of him; भविष्यति (bhaviṣyati) - will be;]
(Jarāsandha and strong opposer of all kings will be; demon prosperous king in Girivraja. From my intellect's movement, the slaying of him will be.)
Jarāsandha, the strong and the adversary of all kings, will become a powerful demon-like king in Girivraja. By the movement of my intellect, his slaying will occur. (3-326-89)
समागतेषु बलिषु पृथिव्यां सर्वराजसु। वासविः सुसहायो वै मम ह्येको भविष्यति ॥३-३२६-९०॥
samāgateṣu baliṣu pṛthivyāṃ sarvarājasu। vāsaviḥ susahāyo vai mama hyeko bhaviṣyati ॥3-326-90॥
[समागतेषु (samāgateṣu) - having assembled; in those who have come together; बलिषु (baliṣu) - in the offerings; in the tributes; पृथिव्यां (pṛthivyāṃ) - on the earth; सर्वराजसु (sarvarājasu) - among all kings; वासविः (vāsaviḥ) - the son of Vāsava (Indra); सुसहायः (susahāyaḥ) - with good allies; well-aided; वै (vai) - indeed; मम (mama) - my; हि (hi) - surely; indeed; एकः (ekaḥ) - one; alone; भविष्यति (bhaviṣyati) - will be; will become;]
(Among those assembled for the offerings on the earth, among all kings, the son of Vāsava, well-aided indeed, surely my one will be.)
Among all the kings assembled for the tribute on earth, the son of Vāsava, with good allies, will indeed be my only one. (3-326-90)
एवं लोका वदिष्यन्ति नरनारायणावृषी। उद्युक्तौ दहतः क्षत्रं लोककार्यार्थमीश्वरौ ॥३-३२६-९१॥
evaṃ lokā vadiṣyanti naranārāyaṇāvṛṣī। udyuktau dahataḥ kṣatraṃ lokakāryārthamīśvarau ॥3-326-91॥
[एवं (evaṃ) - thus; in this way; लोका (lokā) - people; worlds; वदिष्यन्ति (vadiṣyanti) - will say; will speak; नरनारायणावृषी (naranārāyaṇāvṛṣī) - Nara and Nārāyaṇa sages; उद्युक्तौ (udyuktau) - prepared; ready; दहतः (dahataḥ) - burning; destroying; क्षत्रं (kṣatram) - the kṣatriya class; warrior class; लोककार्यार्थम् (lokakāryārtham) - for the purpose of the world's work; for the sake of the world's duty; ईश्वरौ (īśvarau) - the two lords; the two masters;]
(Thus people will say: Nara and Nārāyaṇa sages, prepared, burning the kṣatriya class for the purpose of the world's work, the two lords.)
Thus, people will say that the sages Nara and Nārāyaṇa, being prepared, destroyed the kṣatriya class for the sake of the world's welfare, as the two lords. (3-326-91)
कृत्वा भारावतरणं वसुधाया यथेप्सितम्। सर्वसात्वतमुख्यानां द्वारकायाश्च सत्तम ॥३-३२६-९२॥
kṛtvā bhārāvataraṇaṃ vasudhāyā yathepsitam। sarvasātvatamukhyānāṃ dvārakāyāś ca sattama ॥3-326-92॥
[कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having done; भारावतरणं (bhārāvataraṇam) - removal of the burden; वसुधाया (vasudhāyāḥ) - of the earth; यथेप्सितम् (yathepsitam) - as desired; सर्वसात्वतमुख्यानां (sarvasātvatamukhyānām) - of all the chief Sātvatas; द्वारकायाः (dvārakāyāḥ) - of Dvārakā; च (ca) - and; सत्तम (sattama) - O best among beings;]
(Having done the removal of the burden of the earth as desired, of all the chief Sātvatas and of Dvārakā, and O best among beings.)

करिष्ये प्रलयं घोरमात्मज्ञातिविनाशनम् ॥३-३२६-९२॥
kariṣye pralayaṃ ghoram ātmajñātivināśanam ॥3-326-92॥
[करिष्ये (kariṣye) - I will do; I will make; प्रलयम् (pralayaṃ) - dissolution; destruction; घोरम् (ghoram) - terrible; dreadful; आत्म (ātma) - self; oneself; ज्ञाति (jñāti) - relative; kinsman; विनाशनम् (vināśanam) - destruction; annihilation;]
(I will do dissolution terrible self-relative-destruction.)
I will bring about a terrible destruction that will annihilate myself and my relatives. (3-326-92)
कर्माण्यपरिमेयानि चतुर्मूर्तिधरो ह्यहम्। कृत्वा लोकान्गमिष्यामि स्वानहं ब्रह्मसत्कृतान् ॥३-३२६-९३॥
karmāṇyaparimeyāni caturmūrtidharo hyaham। kṛtvā lokāngamiṣyāmi svānahaṃ brahmasatkṛtān ॥3-326-93॥
[कर्माणि (karmāṇi) - actions; अपरिमेयानि (aparimeyāni) - immeasurable; चतुर्मूर्तिधरः (caturmūrtidharaḥ) - bearer of four forms; हि (hi) - indeed; अहम् (aham) - I; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having done; लोकान् (lokān) - worlds; गमिष्यामि (gamiṣyāmi) - I shall go; स्वान् (svān) - my own; अहम् (aham) - I; ब्रह्मसत्कृतान् (brahmasatkṛtān) - honored by Brahman;]
(Actions immeasurable, bearer of four forms indeed I; having done worlds I shall go to my own I honored by Brahman.)
I, the bearer of four forms, indeed perform immeasurable actions; having created the worlds, I shall go to my own, those honored by Brahman. (3-326-93)
हंसो हयशिराश्चैव प्रादुर्भावा द्विजोत्तम। यदा वेदश्रुतिर्नष्टा मया प्रत्याहृता तदा ॥ सवेदाः सश्रुतीकाश्च कृताः पूर्वं कृते युगे ॥३-३२६-९४॥
haṃso hayaśirāścaiva prādurbhāvā dvijottama। yadā vedaśrutirnaṣṭā mayā pratyāhṛtā tadā ॥ savedāḥ saśrutīkāśca kṛtāḥ pūrvaṃ kṛte yuge ॥3-326-94॥
[हंसः (haṃsaḥ) - the Swan; (a form of Viṣṇu); हयशिराः (hayaśirāḥ) - Horse-headed; (a form of Viṣṇu); च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; प्रादुर्भावाः (prādurbhāvāḥ) - manifestations; appearances; द्विजोत्तम (dvijottama) - O best of twice-born; यदा (yadā) - when; वेदश्रुतिः (vedaśrutiḥ) - Vedic recitation; Vedic knowledge; नष्टा (naṣṭā) - lost; मया (mayā) - by me; प्रत्याहृता (pratyāhṛtā) - recovered; brought back; तदा (tadā) - then; सवेदाः (savedāḥ) - with the Vedas; सश्रुतीकाः (saśrutīkāḥ) - with the recitations; with the śrutis; च (ca) - and; कृताः (kṛtāḥ) - made; created; पूर्वं (pūrvaṃ) - formerly; before; कृते (kṛte) - in the Kṛta (first) Yuga; युगे (yuge) - in the age; in the Yuga;]
(The Swan, the Horse-headed, indeed, manifestations, O best of twice-born; when the Vedic recitation was lost, by me recovered then; with the Vedas, with the recitations, and, made, formerly, in the Kṛta Yuga.)
O best of the twice-born, the manifestations as the Swan and the Horse-headed (forms) occurred; whenever the Vedic recitation was lost, I recovered it then. The Vedas along with their recitations were established by me in the former Kṛta Yuga. (3-326-94)
अतिक्रान्ताः पुराणेषु श्रुतास्ते यदि वा क्वचित्। अतिक्रान्ताश्च बहवः प्रादुर्भावा ममोत्तमाः ॥ लोककार्याणि कृत्वा च पुनः स्वां प्रकृतिं गताः ॥३-३२६-९५॥
atikrāntāḥ purāṇeṣu śrutās te yadi vā kvacit। atikrāntāś ca bahavaḥ prādurbhāvā mamottamāḥ ॥ lokakāryāṇi kṛtvā ca punaḥ svāṃ prakṛtiṃ gatāḥ ॥3-326-95॥
[अतिक्रान्ताः (atikrāntāḥ) - transcended; पुराणेषु (purāṇeṣu) - in the ancient (texts); श्रुताः (śrutāḥ) - heard; ते (te) - they; यदि (yadi) - if; वा (vā) - or; क्वचित् (kvacit) - somewhere; अतिक्रान्ताः (atikrāntāḥ) - transcended; च (ca) - and; बहवः (bahavaḥ) - many; प्रादुर्भावाः (prādurbhāvāḥ) - manifestations; मम (mama) - my; उत्तमाः (uttamāḥ) - excellent; लोककार्याणि (lokakāryāṇi) - worldly duties; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having done; च (ca) - and; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; स्वाम् (svām) - own; प्रकृतिम् (prakṛtim) - nature; गताः (gatāḥ) - gone;]
(Transcended in the ancient (texts) heard they, if or somewhere. Transcended and many manifestations my excellent. Worldly duties having done and again own nature gone.)
Those who have transcended are heard of in the ancient texts, whether here or elsewhere. Many excellent manifestations of mine have also transcended. Having performed worldly duties, they again return to their own nature. (3-326-95)
न ह्येतद्ब्रह्मणा प्राप्तमीदृशं मम दर्शनम्। यत्त्वया प्राप्तमद्येह एकान्तगतबुद्धिना ॥३-३२६-९६॥
na hy etad brahmaṇā prāptam īdṛśaṃ mama darśanam। yat tvayā prāptam adya iha ekāntagata-buddhinā ॥3-326-96॥
[न (na) - not; हि (hi) - indeed; एतत् (etad) - this; ब्रह्मणा (brahmaṇā) - by Brahmā; प्राप्तम् (prāptam) - obtained; ईदृशम् (īdṛśam) - such; मम (mama) - my; दर्शनम् (darśanam) - sight; यत् (yat) - which; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; प्राप्तम् (prāptam) - obtained; अद्य (adya) - today; इह (iha) - here; एकान्तगतबुद्धिना (ekāntagata-buddhinā) - with mind gone to solitude;]
(Not indeed this by Brahmā obtained such my sight; which by you obtained today here with mind gone to solitude;)
Indeed, even Brahmā has not obtained such a vision of me as you have attained today here, with your mind absorbed in solitude. (3-326-96)
एतत्ते सर्वमाख्यातं ब्रह्मन्भक्तिमतो मया। पुराणं च भविष्यं च सरहस्यं च सत्तम ॥३-३२६-९७॥
etat te sarvam ākhyātaṃ brahman bhaktimato mayā। purāṇaṃ ca bhaviṣyaṃ ca sarahasyaṃ ca sattama ॥3-326-97॥
[एतत् (etat) - this; ते (te) - to you; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; आख्यातम् (ākhyātam) - declared; ब्रह्मन् (brahman) - O Brahman; भक्तिमतः (bhaktimataḥ) - of the devoted one; मया (mayā) - by me; पुराणम् (purāṇam) - ancient; च (ca) - and; भविष्यम् (bhaviṣyam) - future; च (ca) - and; सरहस्यम् (sarahasyam) - with secret; च (ca) - and; सत्तम (sattama) - O best one;]
(This to you all declared O Brahman of the devoted one by me; ancient and future and with secret and O best one.)
O best Brahman, all this—ancient, future, and secret—has been declared to you, who are devoted, by me. (3-326-97)
एवं स भगवान्देवो विश्वमूर्तिधरोऽव्ययः। एतावदुक्त्वा वचनं तत्रैवान्तरधीयत ॥३-३२६-९८॥
evaṃ sa bhagavān devo viśvamūrtidharo'vyayaḥ। etāvad uktvā vacanaṃ tatraiva antaradhīyata ॥3-326-98॥
[एवं (evaṃ) - thus; स (sa) - he; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the blessed one; देवः (devaḥ) - god; विश्वमूर्ति (viśvamūrti) - of universal form; धरः (dharaḥ) - bearing; अव्ययः (avyayaḥ) - imperishable; एतावत् (etāvat) - this much; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having spoken; वचनम् (vacanam) - word; तत्र (tatra) - there; एव (eva) - indeed; अन्तरधीयत (antaradhīyata) - disappeared;]
(Thus he, the blessed god, bearing the universal form, imperishable; having spoken this much word, there indeed disappeared.)
Thus, the blessed god of imperishable and universal form, after speaking these words, disappeared right there. (3-326-98)
नारदोऽपि महातेजाः प्राप्यानुग्रहमीप्सितम्। नरनारायणौ द्रष्टुं प्राद्रवद्बदराश्रमम् ॥३-३२६-९९॥
nārado'pi mahātejāḥ prāpyānugrahamīpsitam। naranārāyaṇau draṣṭuṃ prādravadbadarāśramam ॥3-326-99॥

etad-āścarya-bhūtaṃ hi māhātmyaṃ tasya dhīmataḥ। kiṃ brahmā na vijānīte yataḥ śuśrāva nāradāt ॥3-326-102॥

(This wonderful-being indeed greatness of him of the wise; what Brahmā not knows because heard from Nārada;)
Indeed, this greatness of the wise one is wonderful; what is there that Brahmā does not know, since he heard it from Nārada? (3-326-102)
पितामहो हि भगवांस्तस्माद्देवादनन्तरः। कथं स न विजानीयात्प्रभावममितौजसः ॥३-३२६-१०३॥
pitāmaho hi bhagavāṃs tasmād devād anantaraḥ। kathaṃ sa na vijānīyāt prabhāvam amitaujasaḥ ॥3-326-103॥
[पितामहः (pitāmahaḥ) - grandfather; हि (hi) - indeed; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the venerable; तस्मात् (tasmāt) - from him; देवात् (devāt) - from the god; अनन्तरः (anantaraḥ) - immediately after; कथम् (katham) - how; सः (saḥ) - he; न (na) - not; विजानीयात् (vijānīyāt) - would know; प्रभावम् (prabhāvam) - power; अमितौजसः (amitaujasaḥ) - of immeasurable energy;]
(Grandfather indeed the venerable from him from the god immediately after; how he not would know power of immeasurable energy;)
Indeed, the venerable Grandfather, who comes immediately after that god—how could he not know the power of one of immeasurable energy? (3-326-103)

(Great aeon thousands, great aeon hundreds and, completely passed, O king, creations and dissolutions and indeed.)
O king, thousands and hundreds of great aeons have completely passed; indeed, many creations and dissolutions have occurred. (3-326-104)
सर्गस्यादौ स्मृतो ब्रह्मा प्रजासर्गकरः प्रभुः। जानाति देवप्रवरं भूयश्चातोऽधिकं नृप ॥ परमात्मानमीशानमात्मनः प्रभवं तथा ॥३-३२६-१०५॥
sargasyādau smṛto brahmā prajāsargakaraḥ prabhuḥ। jānāti devapravaraṃ bhūyaścāto'dhikaṃ nṛpa ॥ paramātmānam īśānam ātmanaḥ prabhavaṃ tathā ॥3-326-105॥

ये त्वन्ये ब्रह्मसदने सिद्धसङ्घाः समागताः। तेभ्यस्तच्छ्रावयामास पुराणं वेदसंमितम् ॥३-३२६-१०६॥
ye tvan·ye brahma-sadane siddha-saṅghāḥ samāgatāḥ। tebhyas tac chrāvayāmāsa purāṇaṃ veda-saṃmitam ॥3-326-106॥
[ये (ye) - who; (those); तु (tu) - but; indeed; अन्ये (anye) - other; (others); ब्रह्मसदने (brahma-sadane) - in the assembly of Brahman; (in Brahma's hall); सिद्धसङ्घाः (siddha-saṅghāḥ) - groups of Siddhas; (assemblies of perfected beings); समागताः (samāgatāḥ) - assembled; (gathered); तेभ्यः (tebhyaḥ) - to them; (unto those); तत् (tat) - that; श्रावयामास (śrāvayāmāsa) - caused to be heard; (made hear); पुराणम् (purāṇam) - Purāṇa; (ancient lore); वेदसंमितम् (veda-saṃmitam) - equal to the Veda; (measured with the Veda);]
(Who indeed others in the assembly of Brahman, groups of Siddhas assembled; to them that caused to be heard the Purāṇa equal to the Veda.)
But the other groups of Siddhas who had assembled in the assembly of Brahman, to them he caused that Purāṇa, which is equal to the Veda, to be heard. (3-326-106)
तेषां सकाशात्सूर्यश्च श्रुत्वा वै भावितात्मनाम्। आत्मानुगामिनां ब्रह्म श्रावयामास भारत ॥३-३२६-१०७॥
teṣāṃ sakāśātsūryaśca śrutvā vai bhāvitātmanām। ātmānugāmināṃ brahma śrāvayāmāsa bhārata ॥3-326-107॥
[तेषाम् (teṣām) - of them; सकाशात् (sakāśāt) - from the presence; सूर्यः (sūryaḥ) - the Sun; च (ca) - and; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; वै (vai) - indeed; भावितात्मनाम् (bhāvitātmanām) - of those whose minds are purified; आत्मानुगामिनाम् (ātmānugāminām) - of those who follow the self; ब्रह्म (brahma) - the Veda; श्रावयामास (śrāvayāmāsa) - caused to be heard; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata;]
(Of them, from the presence, the Sun and, having heard indeed, of those whose minds are purified, of those who follow the self, the Veda, caused to be heard, O Bhārata.)
O Bhārata, having heard from them, the Sun indeed caused the Veda to be heard to those whose minds are purified and who follow the self. (3-326-107)
षट्षष्टिर्हि सहस्राणि ऋषीणां भावितात्मनाम्। सूर्यस्य तपतो लोकान्निर्मिता ये पुरःसराः ॥ तेषामकथयत्सूर्यः सर्वेषां भावितात्मनाम् ॥३-३२६-१०८॥
ṣaṭṣaṣṭir hi sahasrāṇi ṛṣīṇāṃ bhāvitātmanām। sūryasya tapato lokān nirmitā ye puraḥsarāḥ ॥ teṣām akathayat sūryaḥ sarveṣāṃ bhāvitātmanām ॥3-326-108॥
[षट्षष्टिः (ṣaṭṣaṣṭiḥ) - sixty-six; हि (hi) - indeed; सहस्राणि (sahasrāṇi) - thousands; ऋषीणाम् (ṛṣīṇām) - of sages; भावितात्मनाम् (bhāvitātmanām) - of those whose selves are purified; सूर्यस्य (sūryasya) - of the Sun; तपतः (tapataḥ) - of the one who is performing austerity; लोकान् (lokān) - worlds; निर्मिताः (nirmitāḥ) - created; ये (ye) - who; पुरःसराः (puraḥsarāḥ) - leaders; तेषाम् (teṣām) - of them; अकथयत् (akathayat) - told; सूर्यः (sūryaḥ) - the Sun; सर्वेषाम् (sarveṣām) - of all; भावितात्मनाम् (bhāvitātmanām) - of those whose selves are purified;]
(Sixty-six thousand indeed of sages of those whose selves are purified; of the Sun performing austerity, the worlds were created, who (were) the leaders. To them the Sun told, of all those whose selves are purified.)
Indeed, sixty-six thousand sages whose selves were purified, the leaders among them, were created by the Sun performing austerity. To all those purified sages, the Sun spoke. (3-326-108)
सूर्यानुगामिभिस्तात ऋषिभिस्तैर्महात्मभिः। मेरौ समागता देवाः श्राविताश्चेदमुत्तमम् ॥३-३२६-१०९॥
sūryānugāmibhis tāta ṛṣibhis tair mahātmabhiḥ। merau samāgatā devāḥ śrāvitāś cedam uttamam ॥3-326-109॥
[सूर्य (sūrya) - sun; अनुगामिभिः (anugāmibhiḥ) - by those who follow; तात (tāta) - O dear one; ऋषिभिः (ṛṣibhiḥ) - by sages; तैः (taiḥ) - by those; महात्मभिः (mahātmabhiḥ) - by great souls; मेरौ (merau) - on Meru; समागताः (samāgatāḥ) - assembled; देवाः (devāḥ) - gods; श्राविताः (śrāvitāḥ) - were made to hear; च (ca) - and; इदम् (idam) - this; उत्तमम् (uttamam) - excellent;]
(O dear one, by those who follow the sun, by those sages, by those great souls, on Meru, the gods assembled, and were made to hear this excellent (thing).)
O dear one, the gods assembled on Mount Meru by those sun-following sages of great soul, and were made to hear this excellent matter. (3-326-109)
देवानां तु सकाशाद्वै ततः श्रुत्वासितो द्विजः। श्रावयामास राजेन्द्र पितॄणां मुनिसत्तमः ॥३-३२६-११०॥
devānāṃ tu sakāśād vai tataḥ śrutvā asitaḥ dvijaḥ। śrāvayām āsa rājendra pitṝṇāṃ munisattamaḥ ॥3-326-110॥
[देवानाम् (devānām) - of the gods; तु (tu) - but; सकाशात् (sakāśāt) - from the presence (of); वै (vai) - indeed; ततः (tataḥ) - then; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; असितः (asitaḥ) - Asita; द्विजः (dvijaḥ) - the twice-born; श्रावयामास (śrāvayām āsa) - caused to be heard; राजेन्द्र (rājendra) - O king; पितॄणाम् (pitṝṇām) - to the ancestors; मुनिसत्तमः (munisattamaḥ) - the best among sages;]
(Of the gods but from the presence indeed then having heard Asita the twice-born caused to be heard O king to the ancestors the best among sages.)
O king, the best among sages, the twice-born Asita, having heard this from the presence of the gods, indeed caused it to be heard to the ancestors. (3-326-110)
मम चापि पिता तात कथयामास शन्तनुः। ततो मयैतच्छ्रुत्वा च कीर्तितं तव भारत ॥३-३२६-१११॥
mama cāpi pitā tāta kathayāmāsa śantanuḥ। tato mayaitacchrutvā ca kīrtitaṃ tava bhārata ॥3-326-111॥
[मम (mama) - of me; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; पिता (pitā) - father; तात (tāta) - O dear one; कथयामास (kathayāmāsa) - told; शन्तनुः (śantanuḥ) - Śantanu; ततः (tataḥ) - then; मया (mayā) - by me; एतत् (etat) - this; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; च (ca) - and; कीर्तितं (kīrtitaṃ) - declared; तव (tava) - to you; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata;]
(Of me and also father, O dear one, Śantanu told; then by me, having heard this and declared to you, O Bhārata.)
My father also, O dear one, Śantanu, told (this); then, having heard this, I have declared it to you, O Bhārata. (3-326-111)
सुरैर्वा मुनिभिर्वापि पुराणं यैरिदं श्रुतम्। सर्वे ते परमात्मानं पूजयन्ति पुनः पुनः ॥३-३२६-११२॥
surairvā munibhirvāpi purāṇaṃ yairidaṃ śrutam। sarve te paramātmānaṃ pūjayanti punaḥ punaḥ ॥3-326-112॥
[सुरैः (suraiḥ) - by the gods; वा (vā) - or; मुनिभिः (munibhiḥ) - by sages; वा (vā) - or; अपि (api) - also; पुराणम् (purāṇam) - the Purāṇa; यैः (yaiḥ) - by whom; इदं (idaṃ) - this; श्रुतम् (śrutam) - has been heard; सर्वे (sarve) - all; ते (te) - they; परमात्मानम् (paramātmānam) - the Supreme Self; पूजयन्ति (pūjayanti) - worship; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; पुनः (punaḥ) - again;]
(By the gods or by sages also, the Purāṇa by whom this has been heard, all they the Supreme Self worship again and again.)
Whether by gods or by sages, whoever has heard this Purāṇa, all of them worship the Supreme Self again and again. (3-326-112)
इदमाख्यानमार्षेयं पारम्पर्यागतं नृप। नावासुदेवभक्ताय त्वया देयं कथञ्चन ॥३-३२६-११३॥
idam ākhyānam ārṣeyam pāramparyāgataṃ nṛpa। na avāsudevabhaktāya tvayā deyaṃ kathaṃcana ॥3-326-113॥
[इदम् (idam) - this; आख्यानम् (ākhyānam) - narrative; आर्षेयम् (ārṣeyam) - of the ṛṣis; पारम्पर्यागतम् (pāramparyāgatam) - come by tradition; नृप (nṛpa) - O king; न (na) - not; अवासुदेवभक्ताय (avāsudevabhaktāya) - to one who is not a devotee of Vāsudeva; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; देयम् (deyam) - should be given; कथञ्चन (kathaṃcana) - in any way;]
(This narrative of the ṛṣis, come by tradition, O king, should not be given by you in any way to one who is not a devotee of Vāsudeva.)
O king, this narrative of the ṛṣis, received through tradition, should never be given by you to anyone who is not a devotee of Vāsudeva. (3-326-113)
मत्तोऽन्यानि च ते राजन्नुपाख्यानशतानि वै। यानि श्रुतानि धर्म्याणि तेषां सारोऽयमुद्धृतः ॥३-३२६-११४॥
matto'nyāni ca te rājan nupākhyānaśatāni vai। yāni śrutāni dharmyāṇi teṣāṃ sāro'yam uddhṛtaḥ ॥3-326-114॥
[मत्तः (mattaḥ) - from me; अन्यानि (anyāni) - other; च (ca) - and; ते (te) - to you; राजन् (rājan) - O king; उपाख्यानशतानि (upākhyānaśatāni) - hundreds of stories; वै (vai) - indeed; यानि (yāni) - which; श्रुतानि (śrutāni) - have been heard; धर्म्याणि (dharmyāṇi) - righteous; तेषां (teṣāṃ) - of those; सारः (sāraḥ) - essence; अयम् (ayam) - this; उद्धृतः (uddhṛtaḥ) - has been extracted;]
(From me, other hundreds of stories indeed to you, O king, which have been heard, righteous, of those, the essence, this has been extracted.)
O king, from me you have indeed heard hundreds of other righteous stories; of those, this is the essence that has been extracted. (3-326-114)
सुरासुरैर्यथा राजन्निर्मथ्यामृतमुद्धृतम्। एवमेतत्पुरा विप्रैः कथामृतमिहोद्धृतम् ॥३-३२६-११५॥
surāsurair yathā rājan nirmathyāmṛtam uddhṛtam। evam etat purā vipraiḥ kathāmṛtam iho'dhṛtam ॥3-326-115॥
[सुरासुरैः (surāsuraiḥ) - by the gods and demons; यथा (yathā) - just as; राजन् (rājan) - O king; निर्मथ्य (nirmathya) - having churned; अमृतम् (amṛtam) - nectar; उद्धृतम् (uddhṛtam) - was extracted; एवम् (evam) - so; एतत् (etat) - this; पुरा (purā) - formerly; विप्रैः (vipraiḥ) - by the Brāhmaṇas; कथा-अमृतम् (kathāmṛtam) - the nectar of stories; इह (iha) - here; उद्धृतम् (uddhṛtam) - was extracted;]
(By the gods and demons, just as, O king, having churned, nectar was extracted; so this, formerly, by the Brāhmaṇas, the nectar of stories, here, was extracted;)
O king, just as the gods and demons once churned and extracted nectar, so too, in former times, the Brāhmaṇas have here extracted the nectar of stories. (3-326-115)
यश्चेदं पठते नित्यं यश्चेदं शृणुयान्नरः। एकान्तभावोपगत एकान्ते सुसमाहितः ॥३-३२६-११६॥
yaś cedaṃ paṭhate nityaṃ yaś cedaṃ śṛṇuyān naraḥ। ekāntabhāvopagata ekānte susamāhitaḥ ॥3-326-116॥
[यः (yaḥ) - who; च (ca) - and; इदं (idaṃ) - this; पठते (paṭhate) - recites; नित्यं (nityaṃ) - always; यः (yaḥ) - who; च (ca) - and; इदं (idaṃ) - this; शृणुयात् (śṛṇuyāt) - may hear; नरः (naraḥ) - man; एकान्तभावोपगतः (ekāntabhāvopagataḥ) - who has attained the state of solitude; एकान्ते (ekānte) - in solitude; सुसमाहितः (susamāhitaḥ) - well concentrated;]
(Who and this recites always, who and this may hear man, who has attained the state of solitude, in solitude, well concentrated.)
Whoever recites this always, and whoever, being a man, hears this, having attained the state of solitude, being well concentrated in solitude. (3-326-116)
प्राप्य श्वेतं महाद्वीपं भूत्वा चन्द्रप्रभो नरः। स सहस्रार्चिषं देवं प्रविशेन्नात्र संशयः ॥३-३२६-११७॥
prāpya śvetaṃ mahādvīpaṃ bhūtvā candraprabho naraḥ। sa sahasrārciṣaṃ devaṃ praviśennātra saṃśayaḥ॥3-326-117॥
[प्राप्य (prāpya) - having attained; श्वेतं (śvetam) - white; महाद्वीपं (mahādvīpam) - great continent; भूत्वा (bhūtvā) - having become; चन्द्रप्रभः (candraprabhaḥ) - moon-radiant; नरः (naraḥ) - man; स (sa) - he; सहस्रार्चिषम् (sahasrārciṣam) - thousand-rayed; देवम् (devam) - deity; प्रविशेत् (praviśet) - should enter; नात्र (nātra) - not here; संशयः (saṃśayaḥ) - doubt;]
(Having attained the white great continent, having become moon-radiant man, he should enter the thousand-rayed deity; not here (is) doubt;)
Having reached the white great continent and having become radiant like the moon, the man enters the thousand-rayed deity; there is no doubt about this. (3-326-117)
मुच्येदार्तस्तथा रोगाच्छ्रुत्वेमामादितः कथाम्। जिज्ञासुर्लभते कामान्भक्तो भक्तगतिं व्रजेत् ॥३-३२६-११८॥
mucyed ārtaḥ tathā rogāt śrutvā imām āditaḥ kathām। jijñāsuḥ labhate kāmān bhaktaḥ bhaktigatim vrajet ॥3-326-118॥
[मुच्येत (mucyeta) - may be released; आर्तः (ārtaḥ) - afflicted one; तथा (tathā) - likewise; रोगात् (rogāt) - from disease; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; इमाम् (imām) - this; आदितः (āditaḥ) - from the beginning; कथाम् (kathām) - story; जिज्ञासुः (jijñāsuḥ) - one who desires to know; लभते (labhate) - obtains; कामान् (kāmān) - desires; भक्तः (bhaktaḥ) - devotee; भक्तिगतिम् (bhaktigatim) - the state of a devotee; व्रजेत् (vrajet) - may attain;]
(The afflicted one may be released, likewise from disease, having heard this story from the beginning; one who desires to know obtains desires, the devotee may attain the state of a devotee.)
An afflicted person may be freed, and likewise from disease, by hearing this story from the beginning; one who seeks knowledge attains his desires, and a devotee attains the state of devotion. (3-326-118)
त्वयापि सततं राजन्नभ्यर्च्यः पुरुषोत्तमः। स हि माता पिता चैव कृत्स्नस्य जगतो गुरुः ॥३-३२६-११९॥
tvayāpi satataṃ rājannabhyarcyaḥ puruṣottamaḥ। sa hi mātā pitā caiva kṛtsnasya jagato guruḥ ॥3-326-119॥
[त्वया (tvayā) - by you; अपि (api) - also; सततं (satatam) - always; राजन् (rājan) - O king; अभ्यर्च्यः (abhyarcyaḥ) - to be worshipped; पुरुषोत्तमः (puruṣottamaḥ) - the Supreme Person; स (sa) - he; हि (hi) - indeed; माता (mātā) - mother; पिता (pitā) - father; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; कृत्स्नस्य (kṛtsnasya) - of all; जगतः (jagataḥ) - of the world; गुरुः (guruḥ) - teacher;]
(By you also always, O king, the Supreme Person is to be worshipped; he indeed is the mother, father, and also the teacher of all the world.)
O king, you too must always worship the Supreme Person, for he is truly the mother, father, and the teacher of the entire world. (3-326-119)
ब्रह्मण्यदेवो भगवान्प्रीयतां ते सनातनः। युधिष्ठिर महाबाहो महाबाहुर्जनार्दनः ॥३-३२६-१२०॥
brahmaṇyadevo bhagavān prīyatāṃ te sanātanaḥ। yudhiṣṭhira mahābāho mahābāhur janārdanaḥ ॥3-326-120॥
[ब्रह्मण्यदेवः (brahmaṇyadevaḥ) - the god devoted to Brahman; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the Lord; प्रीयताम् (prīyatām) - may he be pleased; ते (te) - with you; सनातनः (sanātanaḥ) - the eternal one; युधिष्ठिर (yudhiṣṭhira) - O Yudhishthira; महाबाहो (mahābāho) - O mighty-armed one; महाबाहुः (mahābāhuḥ) - the mighty-armed one; जनार्दनः (janārdanaḥ) - Janardana;]
(The god devoted to Brahman, the Lord, may he be pleased with you, the eternal one. O Yudhishthira, O mighty-armed one, the mighty-armed Janardana.)
May the god devoted to Brahman, the eternal Lord, be pleased with you. O Yudhishthira, O mighty-armed one, Janardana, the mighty-armed.
वैशम्पायन उवाच॥

Vaiśampāyana said.
श्रुत्वैतदाख्यानवरं धर्मराड्जनमेजय। भ्रातरश्चास्य ते सर्वे नारायणपराभवन् ॥३-३२६-१२१॥
śrutvaitadākhyānavaraṃ dharmarāḍjanamejaya. bhrātaraś cāsya te sarve nārāyaṇaparābhavan ॥3-326-121॥
[श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; एतत् (etat) - this; आख्यानवरम् (ākhyānavaram) - excellent narrative; धर्मराट् (dharmarāṭ) - king of dharma; जनमेजय (janamejaya) - Janamejaya; भ्रातरः (bhrātaraḥ) - brothers; च (ca) - and; अस्य (asya) - his; ते (te) - they; सर्वे (sarve) - all; नारायणपराः (nārāyaṇaparāḥ) - devoted to Nārāyaṇa; अभवन् (abhavan) - became;]
(Having heard this excellent narrative, King Janamejaya and all his brothers became devoted to Nārāyaṇa.)
After hearing this excellent story, King Janamejaya and all his brothers became devoted to Nārāyaṇa. (3-326-121)
जितं भगवता तेन पुरुषेणेति भारत। नित्यं जप्यपरा भूत्वा सरस्वतीमुदीरयन् ॥३-३२६-१२२॥
jitaṃ bhagavatā tena puruṣeṇeti bhārata। nityaṃ japyaparā bhūtvā sarasvatīmudīrayan ॥3-326-122॥
[जितं (jitaṃ) - conquered; भगवता (bhagavatā) - by the blessed one; तेन (tena) - by that; पुरुषेण (puruṣeṇa) - by the man; इति (iti) - thus; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata; नित्यं (nityaṃ) - always; जप्यपरा (japyaparā) - devoted to recitation; भूत्वा (bhūtvā) - having become; सरस्वतीम् (sarasvatīm) - Sarasvatī; उदीरयन् (udīrayan) - uttering;]
(Conquered by the blessed one by that man thus, O Bhārata; always, devoted to recitation, having become, Sarasvatī, uttering.)
O Bhārata, it is said, "That man has conquered by the blessed one;" always being devoted to recitation, uttering Sarasvatī. (3-326-122)
यो ह्यस्माकं गुरुः श्रेष्ठः कृष्णद्वैपायनो मुनिः। स जगौ परमं जप्यं नारायणमुदीरयन् ॥३-३२६-१२३॥
yo hy asmākaṃ guruḥ śreṣṭhaḥ kṛṣṇadvaipāyano muniḥ। sa jagau paramaṃ japyaṃ nārāyaṇam udīrayan ॥3-326-123॥
[यः (yaḥ) - who; हि (hi) - indeed; अस्माकम् (asmākam) - our; गुरुः (guruḥ) - teacher; श्रेष्ठः (śreṣṭhaḥ) - the best; कृष्णद्वैपायनः (kṛṣṇadvaipāyanaḥ) - Kṛṣṇa Dvaipāyana; मुनिः (muniḥ) - sage; सः (saḥ) - he; जगौ (jagau) - sang; परमम् (paramam) - supreme; जप्यम् (japyam) - recitation; नारायणम् (nārāyaṇam) - Nārāyaṇa; उदीरयन् (udīrayan) - uttering;]
(Who indeed our teacher the best Kṛṣṇa Dvaipāyana sage he sang the supreme recitation Nārāyaṇa uttering.)
He who is indeed our best teacher, the sage Kṛṣṇa Dvaipāyana, sang the supreme recitation, uttering 'Nārāyaṇa'. (3-326-123)
गत्वान्तरिक्षात्सततं क्षीरोदममृताशयम्। पूजयित्वा च देवेशं पुनरायात्स्वमाश्रमम् ॥३-३२६-१२४॥
gatvāntarikṣātsatataṃ kṣīrodamamṛtāśayam। pūjayitvā ca deveśaṃ punarāyātsvamāśramam ॥3-326-124॥
[गत्वा (gatvā) - having gone; अन्तरिक्षात् (antarikṣāt) - from the sky; सततम् (satatam) - always; क्षीर-उदम् (kṣīra-udam) - milk-ocean; अमृत-आशयम् (amṛta-āśayam) - nectar-abode; पूजयित्वा (pūjayitvā) - having worshipped; च (ca) - and; देव-ईशम् (deva-īśam) - lord of the gods; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; आयात् (āyāt) - came; स्व-अश्रमम् (sva-āśramam) - his own hermitage;]
(Having gone from the sky always to the milk-ocean, the abode of nectar, and having worshipped the lord of the gods, he again came to his own hermitage.)
He always went from the sky to the milk-ocean, the abode of nectar; after worshipping the lord of the gods, he returned again to his own hermitage. (3-326-124)
