एतान्सहस्रशश्चान्यान्समनुध्यातवान्हरः। कस्मात्प्रसादं भगवान्न कुर्यात्तव माधव ॥१३-१५-१॥
etān sahasraśaś cānyān samanudhyātavān haraḥ। kasmāt prasādaṃ bhagavān na kuryāt tava mādhava ॥13-15-1॥
[एतान् (etān) - these (accusative masculine plural); सहस्रशः (sahasraśaḥ) - by thousands; in thousands; च (ca) - and; अन्यान् (anyān) - others (accusative masculine plural); समनुध्यातवान् (samanudhyātavān) - has meditated upon; has contemplated; हरः (haraḥ) - Hara; Śiva; कस्मात् (kasmāt) - for what reason; why; प्रसादम् (prasādam) - grace; favor; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the Lord; न (na) - not; कुर्यात् (kuryāt) - should do; should grant; तव (tava) - to you; your; माधव (mādhava) - Mādhava; O Mādhava;]
(These by thousands and others has meditated upon Hara; for what reason grace the Lord not should grant to you Mādhava.)
Hara has meditated upon these and thousands of others; why should the Lord not grant grace to you, O Mādhava? (13-15-1)
त्वादृशेन हि देवानां श्लाघनीयः समागमः। ब्रह्मण्येनानृशंसेन श्रद्दधानेन चाप्युत ॥ जप्यं च ते प्रदास्यामि येन द्रक्ष्यसि शङ्करम् ॥१३-१५-२॥
tvādṛśena hi devānāṃ ślāghanīyaḥ samāgamaḥ। brahmaṇyenānṛśaṃsena śraddadhānena cāpyuta ॥ japyaṃ ca te pradāsyāmi yena drakṣyasi śaṅkaram ॥13-15-2॥
[त्वादृशेन (tvādṛśena) - by one like you; हि (hi) - indeed; देवानाम् (devānām) - of the gods; श्लाघनीयः (ślāghanīyaḥ) - praiseworthy; समागमः (samāgamaḥ) - meeting; ब्रह्मण्येन (brahmaṇyena) - by one devoted to Brahman; अनृशंसेन (anṛśaṃsena) - by one compassionate; श्रद्दधानेन (śraddadhānena) - by one faithful; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; उत (uta) - indeed; जप्यम् (japyam) - recitation; च (ca) - and; ते (te) - to you; प्रदास्यामि (pradāsyāmi) - I shall give; येन (yena) - by which; द्रक्ष्यसि (drakṣyasi) - you will see; शङ्करम् (śaṅkaram) - Śaṅkara;]
(Indeed, by one like you, the meeting of the gods is praiseworthy; by one devoted to Brahman, compassionate, and faithful, and also indeed. And I shall give you the recitation by which you will see Śaṅkara. (13-15-2))
Indeed, a meeting with the gods is praiseworthy when it is with someone like you—devoted to Brahman, compassionate, and faithful. I will also give you a mantra to recite, by which you will see Śaṅkara. (13-15-2)

अब्रुवं तमहं ब्रह्मंस्त्वत्प्रसादान्महामुने। द्रक्ष्ये दितिजसङ्घानां मर्दनं त्रिदशेश्वरम् ॥१३-१५-३॥
abruvaṁ tam ahaṁ brahmaṁs tvat-prasādān mahāmune. drakṣye ditija-saṅghānāṁ mardanaṁ tridaśeśvaram ॥13-15-3॥
[अब्रुवं (abruvam) - I said; तम् (tam) - to him; अहम् (aham) - I; ब्रह्मन् (brahman) - O Brahman; त्वत्-प्रसादात् (tvat-prasādāt) - by your grace; महामुने (mahāmune) - O great sage; द्रक्ष्ये (drakṣye) - I shall see; दितिज-सङ्घानाम् (ditija-saṅghānām) - of the hosts of Diti's sons (demons); मर्दनम् (mardanam) - the destruction; त्रिदश-ईश्वरम् (tridaśeśvaram) - the lord of the gods;]
(I said to him: O Brahman, by your grace, O great sage, I shall see the destruction of the hosts of Diti's sons by the lord of the gods.)
I said to him, "O Brahman, by your grace, O great sage, I shall witness the destruction of the hosts of the sons of Diti by the lord of the gods." (13-15-3)
दिनेऽष्टमे च विप्रेण दीक्षितोऽहं यथाविधि। दण्डी मुण्डी कुशी चीरी घृताक्तो मेखली तथा ॥१३-१५-४॥
dine'ṣṭame ca vipreṇa dīkṣito'haṃ yathāvidhi। daṇḍī muṇḍī kuśī cīrī ghṛtākto mekhalī tathā ॥13-15-4॥
[दिने (dine) - on the day; अष्टमे (aṣṭame) - eighth; च (ca) - and; विप्रेण (vipreṇa) - by the brāhmaṇa; दीक्षितः (dīkṣitaḥ) - initiated; अहम् (aham) - I; यथा (yathā) - according to; विधि (vidhi) - procedure; दण्डी (daṇḍī) - staff-bearer; मुण्डी (muṇḍī) - shaven-headed; कुशी (kuśī) - having kuśa grass; चीरी (cīrī) - wearing bark garment; घृताक्तः (ghṛtāktaḥ) - anointed with ghee; मेखली (mekhalī) - wearing a girdle; तथा (tathā) - thus;]
(On the eighth day and by the brāhmaṇa I was initiated according to procedure; staff-bearer, shaven-headed, having kuśa grass, wearing bark garment, anointed with ghee, wearing a girdle, thus.)
On the eighth day, I was initiated by the brāhmaṇa according to the prescribed procedure, becoming a staff-bearer, shaven-headed, holding kuśa grass, clad in bark garments, anointed with ghee, and wearing a girdle, thus. (13-15-4)
मासमेकं फलाहारो द्वितीयं सलिलाशनः। तृतीयं च चतुर्थं च पञ्चमं चानिलाशनः ॥१३-१५-५॥
māsam ekaṃ phalāhāro dvitīyaṃ salilāśanaḥ। tṛtīyaṃ ca caturthaṃ ca pañcamaṃ ca anilāśanaḥ ॥13-15-5॥
[मासम् (māsam) - month; (accusative singular); एकम् (ekaṃ) - one; (accusative singular); फलाहारः (phalāhāraḥ) - fruit-eater; (one who eats fruits); द्वितीयम् (dvitīyam) - second; (accusative singular); सलिलाशनः (salilāśanaḥ) - water-eater; (one who subsists on water); तृतीयम् (tṛtīyam) - third; (accusative singular); च (ca) - and; चतुर्थम् (caturtham) - fourth; (accusative singular); च (ca) - and; पञ्चमम् (pañcamam) - fifth; (accusative singular); च (ca) - and; अनिलाशनः (anilāśanaḥ) - air-eater; (one who subsists on air);]
(One month fruit-eater, second water-eater, third and fourth and fifth and air-eater.)
For one month, he subsisted on fruits; for the second, on water; for the third, fourth, and fifth months, he subsisted on air. (13-15-5)
एकपादेन तिष्ठंश्च ऊर्ध्वबाहुरतन्द्रितः। तेजः सूर्यसहस्रस्य अपश्यं दिवि भारत ॥१३-१५-६॥
ekapādena tiṣṭhaṃś ca ūrdhvabāhur atandritaḥ। tejaḥ sūryasahasrasya apaśyaṃ divi bhārata ॥13-15-6॥
[एकपादेन (ekapādena) - with one foot; तिष्ठन् (tiṣṭhan) - standing; च (ca) - and; ऊर्ध्वबाहुः (ūrdhvabāhuḥ) - with arms raised; अतन्द्रितः (atandritaḥ) - untiring; तेजः (tejaḥ) - splendor; सूर्यसहस्रस्य (sūryasahasrasya) - of a thousand suns; अपश्यं (apaśyam) - I saw; दिवि (divi) - in the sky; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata;]
(With one foot standing and with arms raised, untiring; the splendor of a thousand suns I saw in the sky, O Bhārata.)
Standing on one foot, with arms raised and untiring, I saw in the sky, O Bhārata, a radiance like that of a thousand suns. (13-15-6)
तस्य मध्यगतं चापि तेजसः पाण्डुनन्दन। इन्द्रायुधपिनद्धाङ्गं विद्युन्मालागवाक्षकम् ॥ नीलशैलचयप्रख्यं बलाकाभूषितं घनम् ॥१३-१५-७॥
tasya madhyagataṃ cāpi tejasaḥ pāṇḍunandana। indrāyudhapinaddhāṅgaṃ vidyunmālāgavākṣakam ॥ nīlaśailacayaprakhyaṃ balākābhūṣitaṃ ghanam ॥13-15-7॥
[तस्य (tasya) - of him; मध्यगतं (madhyagataṃ) - situated in the middle; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; तेजसः (tejasaḥ) - of the brilliance; पाण्डुनन्दन (pāṇḍunandana) - O son of Pāṇḍu; इन्द्रायुधपिनद्धाङ्गं (indrāyudhapinaddhāṅgam) - having limbs bound by the rainbow; विद्युन्मालागवाक्षकम् (vidyunmālāgavākṣakam) - having windows of garlands of lightning; नीलशैलचयप्रख्यं (nīlaśailacayaprakhyam) - resembling a mass of blue mountains; बलाकाभूषितं (balākābhūṣitaṃ) - adorned with cranes; घनम् (ghanam) - cloud;]
(Of him, situated in the middle also, of the brilliance, O son of Pāṇḍu, having limbs bound by the rainbow, having windows of garlands of lightning, resembling a mass of blue mountains, adorned with cranes, cloud.)
O son of Pāṇḍu, in the midst of that brilliance, there was a cloud, its body encircled by a rainbow, with windows of lightning garlands, resembling a mass of blue mountains and adorned with cranes. (13-15-7)
तमास्थितश्च भगवान्देव्या सह महाद्युतिः। तपसा तेजसा कान्त्या दीप्तया सह भार्यया ॥१३-१५-८॥
tamāsthitaś ca bhagavān devyā saha mahādyutiḥ। tapasā tejasā kāntyā dīptyā saha bhāryayā ॥13-15-8॥
[तम् (tam) - him; आस्थितः (āsthitaḥ) - having approached; च (ca) - and; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the blessed one; देव्या (devyā) - with the goddess; सह (saha) - together with; महाद्युतिः (mahādyutiḥ) - of great splendor; तपसा (tapasā) - by austerity; तेजसा (tejasā) - by brilliance; कान्त्या (kāntyā) - by beauty; दीप्तया (dīptyā) - by radiance; सह (saha) - together with; भार्यया (bhāryayā) - with wife;]
(Him having approached and the blessed one with the goddess together with of great splendor by austerity by brilliance by beauty by radiance together with wife.)
Having approached him, the blessed one of great splendor, together with the goddess, along with his wife, shone with austerity, brilliance, beauty, and radiance. (13-15-8)
रराज भगवांस्तत्र देव्या सह महेश्वरः। सोमेन सहितः सूर्यो यथा मेघस्थितस्तथा ॥१३-१५-९॥
rarāja bhagavāṃs tatra devyā saha maheśvaraḥ। somena sahitaḥ sūryo yathā meghasthitas tathā ॥13-15-9॥
[रराज (rarāja) - shone; appeared splendid; भगवाञ् (bhagavāṃs) - the blessed one; the venerable one; तत्र (tatra) - there; देव्याः (devyā) - with the goddess; सह (saha) - together; with; महेश्वरः (maheśvaraḥ) - great lord; Śiva; सोमेन (somena) - with Soma; with the Moon; सहितः (sahitaḥ) - accompanied; together; सूर्यः (sūryaḥ) - the Sun; यथा (yathā) - just as; like; मेघस्थितः (meghasthitaḥ) - situated in the cloud; तथा (tathā) - so; in that way;]
(Shone the blessed one there with the goddess together, the great lord; with Soma accompanied, the Sun just as situated in the cloud, so.)
There, the blessed great lord shone together with the goddess, just as the Sun, accompanied by the Moon, shines while situated in a cloud. (13-15-9)
संहृष्टरोमा कौन्तेय विस्मयोत्फुल्ललोचनः। अपश्यं देवसङ्घानां गतिमार्तिहरं हरम् ॥१३-१५-१०॥
saṁhṛṣṭaromā kaunteya vismayotphullalocanaḥ। apaśyaṁ devasaṅghānāṁ gatimārtiharaṁ haram ॥13-15-10॥
[संहृष्टरोमा (saṁhṛṣṭaromā) - with hair standing on end; कौन्तेय (kaunteya) - O son of Kunti; विस्मय-उत्फुल्ल-लोचनः (vismaya-utphulla-locanaḥ) - with eyes widened in amazement; अपश्यं (apaśyaṁ) - I saw; देव-सङ्घानाम् (deva-saṅghānām) - of the assemblies of the gods; गति-मार्ति-हरम् (gati-mārti-haram) - the remover of the distress of the path; हरम् (haram) - Hara (Śiva);]
(With hair standing on end, O son of Kunti, with eyes widened in amazement, I saw Hara (Śiva), the remover of the distress of the path, of the assemblies of the gods.)

किरीटिनं गदिनं शूलपाणिं; व्याघ्राजिनं जटिलं दण्डपाणिम्। पिनाकिनं वज्रिणं तीक्ष्णदंष्ट्रं; शुभाङ्गदं व्यालयज्ञोपवीतम् ॥१३-१५-११॥
kirīṭinaṃ gadinaṃ śūlapāṇiṃ; vyāghrājinam jaṭilaṃ daṇḍapāṇim. pinākinaṃ vajriṇaṃ tīkṣṇadaṃṣṭraṃ; śubhāṅgadaṃ vyālayajñopavītam ॥13-15-11॥
[किरीटिनं (kirīṭinam) - crowned one; गदिनं (gadinaṃ) - mace-holder; शूलपाणिं (śūlapāṇiṃ) - trident-handed; व्याघ्राजिनं (vyāghrājinam) - tiger-skin-clad; जटिलं (jaṭilaṃ) - matted-haired; दण्डपाणिम् (daṇḍapāṇim) - staff-handed; पिनाकिनं (pinākinaṃ) - Pinaka-bearer; वज्रिणं (vajriṇaṃ) - thunderbolt-wielder; तीक्ष्णदंष्ट्रं (tīkṣṇadaṃṣṭraṃ) - sharp-toothed; शुभाङ्गदं (śubhāṅgadaṃ) - auspicious-braceleted; व्यालयज्ञोपवीतम् (vyālayajñopavītam) - serpent-sacred-threaded;]
(Crowned one, mace-holder, trident-handed; tiger-skin-clad, matted-haired, staff-handed. Pinaka-bearer, thunderbolt-wielder, sharp-toothed; auspicious-braceleted, serpent-sacred-threaded. (13-15-11))
He is crowned, holds a mace and a trident; is clad in tiger skin, has matted hair, and carries a staff. He bears the Pinaka bow, wields the thunderbolt, has sharp teeth, wears auspicious bracelets, and has a serpent as his sacred thread. (13-15-11)
दिव्यां मालामुरसानेकवर्णां; समुद्वहन्तं गुल्फदेशावलम्बाम्। चन्द्रं यथा परिविष्टं ससन्ध्यं; वर्षात्यये तद्वदपश्यमेनम् ॥१३-१५-१२॥
divyāṃ mālām urasā aneka-varṇāṃ; samudvahantaṃ gulfa-deśa-avalambām. candraṃ yathā pariviṣṭaṃ sa-sandhyaṃ; varṣātyaye tadvad apaśyam enam ॥13-15-12॥
[दिव्यां (divyāṃ) - divine; मालाम् (mālām) - garland; उरसा (urasā) - with the chest; अनेकवर्णां (aneka-varṇāṃ) - of many colors; समुद्वहन्तं (samudvahantam) - carrying up; गुल्फदेश (gulfa-deśa) - ankle-region; आवलम्बाम् (avalambām) - hanging down; चन्द्रम् (candram) - the moon; यथा (yathā) - as; परिविष्टम् (pariviṣṭam) - surrounded; ससन्ध्यम् (sa-sandhyam) - with twilight; वर्षात्यये (varṣātyaye) - at the end of the rainy season; तद्वत् (tadvat) - in that way; अपश्यम् (apaśyam) - I saw; एनम् (enam) - this (one);]
(A divine garland of many colors, carried on the chest, hanging down to the ankle-region; as the moon surrounded with twilight at the end of the rainy season, in that way I saw this one.)

प्रमथानां गणैश्चैव समन्तात्परिवारितम्। शरदीव सुदुष्प्रेक्ष्यं परिविष्टं दिवाकरम् ॥१३-१५-१३॥
pramathānāṃ gaṇaiś caiva samantāt parivāritam। śaradīva suduṣprekṣyaṃ pariviṣṭaṃ divākaram ॥13-15-13॥

आदित्या वसवः साध्या विश्वेदेवास्तथाश्विनौ। विश्वाभिः स्तुतिभिर्देवं विश्वदेवं समस्तुवन् ॥१३-१५-१५॥

(The Ādityas, Vasus, Sādhyas, Viśvedevas, likewise the Aśvins, by all praises, the god Viśvadeva they praised together.)

शतक्रतुश्च भगवान्विष्णुश्चादितिनन्दनौ। ब्रह्मा रथन्तरं साम ईरयन्ति भवान्तिके ॥१३-१५-१६॥
śatakratuś ca bhagavān viṣṇuś ca aditi-nandanau। brahmā rathantaraṃ sāma īrayanti bhavān tike ॥13-15-16॥

(Having a hundred sacrifices and the illustrious one, Viṣṇu and the two sons of Aditi, Brahmā cause the Rathantara Sāma to be sung in your presence.)

योगीश्वराः सुबहवो योगदं पितरं गुरुम्। ब्रह्मर्षयश्च ससुतास्तथा देवर्षयश्च वै ॥१३-१५-१७॥

पृथिवी चान्तरिक्षं च नक्षत्राणि ग्रहास्तथा। मासार्धमासा ऋतवो रात्र्यः संवत्सराः क्षणाः ॥१३-१५-१८॥

The Gandharvas, Apsaras, and those skilled in song and music, singing with divine melody, praise the wondrous marvel. The Vidyadharas, Danavas, Guhyakas, and Rakshasas also join in. (13-15-25)
सर्वाणि चैव भूतानि स्थावराणि चराणि च। नमस्यन्ति महाराज वाङ्मनःकर्मभिर्विभुम् ॥ पुरस्ताद्विष्ठितः शर्वो ममासीत्त्रिदशेश्वरः ॥१३-१५-२६॥
sarvāṇi caiva bhūtāni sthāvarāṇi carāṇi ca। namasyanti mahārāja vāṅ-manaḥ-karmabhir vibhum॥ purastād viṣṭhitaḥ śarvo mam āsīt tridaśeśvaraḥ॥13-15-26॥

पुरस्ताद्विष्ठितं दृष्ट्वा ममेशानं च भारत। सप्रजापतिशक्रान्तं जगन्मामभ्युदैक्षत ॥१३-१५-२७॥

ईक्षितुं च महादेवं न मे शक्तिरभूत्तदा। ततो मामब्रवीद्देवः पश्य कृष्ण वदस्व च ॥१३-१५-२८॥
īkṣituṃ ca mahādevaṃ na me śaktirabhūttadā। tato māmabravīddevaḥ paśya kṛṣṇa vadasva ca ॥13-15-28॥

(To see and Mahādeva not to me power was then. Then to me said the god: See, Kṛṣṇa, and speak also. (13-15-28))
At that time, I did not have the power to see Mahādeva. Then the god said to me: "See, Kṛṣṇa, and speak as well." (13-15-28)
शिरसा वन्दिते देवे देवी प्रीता उमाभवत्। ततोऽहमस्तुवं स्थाणुं स्तुतं ब्रह्मादिभिः सुरैः ॥१३-१५-२९॥
śirasā vandite deve devī prītā umābhavat। tato'hamastuvaṃ sthāṇuṃ stutaṃ brahmādibhiḥ suraiḥ ॥13-15-29॥

(With the head having been saluted to the god, the goddess Umā became pleased. Then I praised Sthāṇu, who was praised by Brahmā and other gods. (13-15-29))

नमोऽस्तु ते शाश्वत सर्वयोने; ब्रह्माधिपं त्वामृषयो वदन्ति। तपश्च सत्त्वं च रजस्तमश्च; त्वामेव सत्यं च वदन्ति सन्तः ॥१३-१५-३०॥
namo'stu te śāśvata sarvayone; brahmādhipaṃ tvām ṛṣayo vadanti. tapaś ca sattvaṃ ca rajastamaś ca; tvām eva satyaṃ ca vadanti santaḥ ॥13-15-30॥

(Obeisance let it be to you, eternal, origin of all; lord of Brahmā you sages say. Austerity and purity and passion and darkness and you indeed truth and say the good.)
Obeisance be to you, O eternal one, origin of all; the sages call you the lord of Brahmā. Austerity, purity, passion, and darkness—and you alone, as truth—so say the good (the virtuous). (13-15-30)
त्वं वै ब्रह्मा च रुद्रश्च वरुणोऽग्निर्मनुर्भवः। धाता त्वष्टा विधाता च त्वं प्रभुः सर्वतोमुखः ॥१३-१५-३१॥
tvaṁ vai brahmā ca rudraś ca varuṇo'gnir manur bhavaḥ। dhātā tvaṣṭā vidhātā ca tvaṁ prabhuḥ sarvatomukhaḥ ॥13-15-31॥
[त्वं (tvaṁ) - you; वै (vai) - indeed; ब्रह्मा (brahmā) - Brahmā; च (ca) - and; रुद्रः (rudraḥ) - Rudra; च (ca) - and; वरुणः (varuṇaḥ) - Varuṇa; अग्निः (agniḥ) - Agni; मनुः (manuḥ) - Manu; भवः (bhavaḥ) - are; धाता (dhātā) - Dhātā; त्वष्टा (tvaṣṭā) - Tvaṣṭā; विधाता (vidhātā) - Vidhātā; च (ca) - and; त्वं (tvaṁ) - you; प्रभुः (prabhuḥ) - master; सर्वतोमुखः (sarvatomukhaḥ) - having faces on all sides;]
(You indeed Brahmā and Rudra and Varuṇa, Agni, Manu are; Dhātā, Tvaṣṭā, Vidhātā and you master having faces on all sides.)
You are indeed Brahmā, Rudra, Varuṇa, Agni, Manu; you are Dhātā, Tvaṣṭā, Vidhātā, and you are the master who faces all directions. (13-15-31)
त्वत्तो जातानि भूतानि स्थावराणि चराणि च। त्वमादिः सर्वभूतानां संहारश्च त्वमेव हि ॥१३-१५-३२॥
tvatto jātāni bhūtāni sthāvarāṇi carāṇi ca। tvamādiḥ sarvabhūtānāṃ saṃhāraśca tvameva hi ॥13-15-32॥
[त्वत्तः (tvattaḥ) - from you; जातानि (jātāni) - born; भूतानि (bhūtāni) - beings; स्थावराणि (sthāvarāṇi) - immovable; चराणि (carāṇi) - movable; च (ca) - and; त्वम् (tvam) - you; आदिः (ādiḥ) - origin; सर्वभूतानाम् (sarvabhūtānām) - of all beings; संहारः (saṃhāraḥ) - dissolution; च (ca) - and; त्वम् (tvam) - you; एव (eva) - indeed; हि (hi) - certainly;]
(From you beings are born, immovable and movable and; you origin of all beings, dissolution and you indeed certainly.)
All beings, both immovable and movable, are born from you; you are the origin and the dissolution of all beings, indeed. (13-15-32)
ये चेन्द्रियार्थाश्च मनश्च कृत्स्नं; ये वायवः सप्त तथैव चाग्निः। ये वा दिविस्था देवताश्चापि पुंसां; तस्मात्परं त्वामृषयो वदन्ति ॥१३-१५-३३॥
ye cendriyārthāś ca manaś ca kṛtsnaṃ; ye vāyavaḥ sapta tathaiva cāgniḥ। ye vā divisthā devatāś cāpi puṃsāṃ; tasmāt paraṃ tvām ṛṣayo vadanti ॥13-15-33॥

(Who and the objects of the senses and the mind and entirety; who the winds seven likewise and fire; who or those abiding in heaven deities and also of men; therefore beyond you sages say.)
All these—the objects of the senses, the mind in its entirety, the seven winds, fire, and even the deities abiding in heaven and those among men—the sages declare you to be beyond all these. (13-15-33)
वेदाः यज्ञाश्च सोमश्च दक्षिणा पावको हविः। यज्ञोपगं च यत्किञ्चिद्भगवांस्तदसंशयम् ॥१३-१५-३४॥
vedāḥ yajñāś ca somaś ca dakṣiṇā pāvako haviḥ। yajñopagaṃ ca yat kiñcid bhagavāṃs tad asaṃśayam ॥13-15-34॥

(Vedas; sacrifices; and; Soma; and; offering; fire; oblation; that which is connected to sacrifice; and; whatever; anything; the Lord; that; without doubt;)
The Vedas, sacrifices, Soma, offerings, fire, oblations, whatever is connected to sacrifice, and anything else—all these, O Lord, are indeed without doubt (yours). (13-15-34)
इष्टं दत्तमधीतं च व्रतानि नियमाश्च ये। ह्रीः कीर्तिः श्रीर्द्युतिस्तुष्टिः सिद्धिश्चैव त्वदर्पणा ॥१३-१५-३५॥
iṣṭaṃ dattam adhītaṃ ca vratāni niyamāś ca ye। hrīḥ kīrtiḥ śrīr dyutis tuṣṭiḥ siddhiś caiva tvad-arpaṇā ॥13-15-35॥
[इष्टम् (iṣṭam) - sacrificial offering; दत्तम् (dattam) - given; अधीतम् (adhītam) - studied; च (ca) - and; व्रतानि (vratāni) - vows; नियमाः (niyamāḥ) - observances; च (ca) - and; ये (ye) - which; ह्रीः (hrīḥ) - modesty; कीर्तिः (kīrtiḥ) - fame; श्रीः (śrīḥ) - prosperity; द्युतिः (dyutiḥ) - splendor; तुष्टिः (tuṣṭiḥ) - contentment; सिद्धिः (siddhiḥ) - success; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; त्वदर्पणा (tvad-arpaṇā) - offered to you;]
(Sacrificial offering, given, studied, and vows, observances which, modesty, fame, prosperity, splendor, contentment, success and indeed offered to you.)
All sacrificial offerings, gifts, studies, vows, observances, as well as modesty, fame, prosperity, splendor, contentment, and success are indeed offered to you. (13-15-35)
कामः क्रोधो भयं लोभो मदः स्तम्भोऽथ मत्सरः। आधयो व्याधयश्चैव भगवंस्तनयास्तव ॥१३-१५-३६॥
kāmaḥ krodho bhayaṃ lobho madaḥ stambho'tha matsaraḥ। ādhayo vyādhayaścaiva bhagavaṃstanayāstava ॥13-15-36॥
[कामः (kāmaḥ) - desire; क्रोधः (krodhaḥ) - anger; भयम् (bhayam) - fear; लोभः (lobhaḥ) - greed; मदः (madaḥ) - arrogance; स्तम्भः (stambhaḥ) - pride; अथ (atha) - and; मत्सरः (matsaraḥ) - envy; आधयः (ādhayaḥ) - mental afflictions; व्याधयः (vyādhayaḥ) - physical diseases; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; भगवन् (bhagavan) - O Lord; तनयाः (tanayāḥ) - sons; तव (tava) - of you;]
(Desire; anger; fear; greed; arrogance; pride and envy; mental afflictions; physical diseases and indeed, O Lord, are the sons of you.)
Desire, anger, fear, greed, arrogance, pride, and envy, as well as mental and physical afflictions, O Lord, are your sons. (13-15-36)
कृतिर्विकारः प्रलयः प्रधानं प्रभवोऽव्ययः। मनसः परमा योनिः स्वभावश्चापि शाश्वतः ॥ अव्यक्तः पावन विभो सहस्रांशो हिरण्मयः ॥१३-१५-३७॥
kṛtirvikāraḥ pralayaḥ pradhānaṃ prabhavo'vyayaḥ। manasaḥ paramā yoniḥ svabhāvaścāpi śāśvataḥ॥ avyaktaḥ pāvana vibho sahasrāṃśo hiraṇmayaḥ॥13-15-37॥

Action, transformation, dissolution, primordial matter, origin, imperishable, the supreme source of the mind, own nature, and also the eternal, the unmanifest, the purifier, O all-pervading one, thousand-rayed, golden. (13-15-37)
आदिर्गुणानां सर्वेषां भवान्वै जीवनाश्रयः। महानात्मा मतिर्ब्रह्मा विश्वः शम्भुः स्वयम्भुवः ॥१३-१५-३८॥
ādirguṇānāṃ sarveṣāṃ bhavānvai jīvanāśrayaḥ। mahānātmā matirbrahmā viśvaḥ śambhuḥ svayambhuvaḥ ॥13-15-38॥

You are indeed the origin of all qualities, the support of life; the great soul, intellect, Brahmā, the universe, Śambhu, and the self-born. (13-15-38)
बुद्धिः प्रज्ञोपलब्धिश्च संवित्ख्यातिर्धृतिः स्मृतिः। पर्यायवाचकैः शब्दैर्महानात्मा विभाव्यसे ॥१३-१५-३९॥
buddhiḥ prajñopalabdhiś ca saṁvit khyātir dhṛtiḥ smṛtiḥ। paryāyavācakaiḥ śabdair mahān ātmā vibhāvyase ॥13-15-39॥

You are conceived as the great self by synonymous words such as intellect, wisdom, perception, consciousness, knowledge, steadfastness, and memory. (13-15-39)
त्वां बुद्ध्वा ब्राह्मणो विद्वान्न प्रमोहं निगच्छति। हृदयं सर्वभूतानां क्षेत्रज्ञस्त्वमृषिष्टुतः ॥१३-१५-४०॥
tvāṃ buddhvā brāhmaṇo vidvān na pramohaṃ nigacchati। hṛdayaṃ sarvabhūtānāṃ kṣetrajñas tvam ṛṣi-stutaḥ ॥13-15-40॥

(Having known you, the brāhmaṇa, the wise one, does not attain delusion. The heart of all beings, you are the knower of the field, praised by the sages. (13-15-40))
Having realized you, the wise brāhmaṇa does not fall into delusion. You, the heart of all beings, are the knower of the field, praised by the sages. (13-15-40)
सर्वतःपाणिपादस्त्वं सर्वतोक्षिशिरोमुखः। सर्वतःश्रुतिमाँल्लोके सर्वमावृत्य तिष्ठसि ॥१३-१५-४१॥
sarvataḥ-pāṇi-pādas tvaṃ sarvato-akṣi-śiro-mukhaḥ। sarvataḥ-śrutimān loke sarvam āvṛtya tiṣṭhasi ॥13-15-41॥
[सर्वतः (sarvataḥ) - from all sides; पाणि (pāṇi) - hand; पाद (pāda) - foot; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; सर्वतः (sarvataḥ) - from all sides; अक्षि (akṣi) - eye; शिरस् (śiras) - head; मुख (mukha) - mouth; सर्वतः (sarvataḥ) - from all sides; श्रुतिमान् (śrutimān) - possessing hearing; लोके (loke) - in the world; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; आवृत्य (āvṛtya) - having enveloped; तिष्ठसि (tiṣṭhasi) - you stand;]
(From all sides hand foot you, from all sides eye head mouth; from all sides possessing hearing in the world, all having enveloped you stand. "13-15-41")
You have hands and feet on all sides, eyes, heads, and mouths on all sides; possessing hearing from all sides in the world, having enveloped all, you stand. (13-15-41)
फलं त्वमसि तिग्मांशो निमेषादिषु कर्मसु। त्वं वै प्रभार्चिः पुरुषः सर्वस्य हृदि संस्थितः ॥ अणिमा लघिमा प्राप्तिरीशानो ज्योतिरव्ययः ॥१३-१५-४२॥
phalaṁ tvam asi tigmāṁśo nimeṣādiṣu karmasu। tvaṁ vai prabhārciḥ puruṣaḥ sarvasya hṛdi saṁsthitaḥ ॥ aṇimā laghimā prāptir īśāno jyotir avyayaḥ ॥13-15-42॥
[फलं (phalaṁ) - fruit; result; त्वम् (tvam) - you; असि (asi) - are; तिग्मांशो (tigmāṁśo) - O blazing-rayed (Sun); निमेषादिषु (nimeṣādiṣu) - in blinking and others; कर्मसु (karmasu) - in actions; त्वं (tvaṁ) - you; वै (vai) - indeed; प्रभार्चिः (prabhārciḥ) - radiant flame; पुरुषः (puruṣaḥ) - person; spirit; सर्वस्य (sarvasya) - of all; हृदि (hṛdi) - in the heart; संस्थितः (saṁsthitaḥ) - situated; अणिमा (aṇimā) - minuteness; लघिमा (laghimā) - lightness; प्राप्तिः (prāptiḥ) - attainment; ईशानः (īśānaḥ) - lord; ज्योतिः (jyotiḥ) - light; अव्ययः (avyayaḥ) - imperishable;]
(Fruit you are O blazing-rayed, in blinking and other actions. You indeed radiant flame, person of all in the heart situated. Minuteness, lightness, attainment, lord, light, imperishable. (13-15-42))
O blazing-rayed one, you are the result in actions such as blinking. You are indeed the radiant flame, the spirit situated in the heart of all. You are minuteness, lightness, attainment, lordship, light, and the imperishable. (13-15-42)
त्वयि बुद्धिर्मतिर्लोकाः प्रपन्नाः संश्रिताश्च ये। ध्यानिनो नित्ययोगाश्च सत्यसन्धा जितेन्द्रियाः ॥१३-१५-४३॥
tvayi buddhirmatirlokāḥ prapannāḥ saṃśritāśca ye. dhyānino nityayogāśca satyasaṃdhā jitendriyāḥ ॥13-15-43॥
[त्वयि (tvayi) - in you; बुद्धिः (buddhiḥ) - intellect; मतिः (matiḥ) - mind; लोकाः (lokāḥ) - people; प्रपन्नाः (prapannāḥ) - surrendered; संश्रिताः (saṃśritāḥ) - taken refuge; च (ca) - and; ये (ye) - who; ध्यानिनः (dhyāninaḥ) - meditators; नित्ययोगाः (nityayogāḥ) - ever-united; च (ca) - and; सत्यसन्धाः (satyasaṃdhāḥ) - truthful; जितेन्द्रियाः (jitendriyāḥ) - self-controlled;]
(In you, intellect, mind, people, surrendered, taken refuge, and who, meditators, ever-united, and, truthful, self-controlled.)
Those whose intellect and mind are fixed in you, who have surrendered and taken refuge, who are meditators, ever-united, truthful, and self-controlled. (13-15-43)
यस्त्वां ध्रुवं वेदयते गुहाशयं; प्रभुं पुराणं पुरुषं विश्वरूपम्। हिरण्मयं बुद्धिमतां परां गतिं; स बुद्धिमान्बुद्धिमतीत्य तिष्ठति ॥१३-१५-४४॥
yastvāṃ dhruvaṃ vedayate guhāśayaṃ; prabhuṃ purāṇaṃ puruṣaṃ viśvarūpam। hiraṇmayaṃ buddhimatāṃ parāṃ gatiṃ; sa buddhimānbuddhimatītya tiṣṭhati ॥13-15-44॥
[यः (yaḥ) - who; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; ध्रुवम् (dhruvam) - eternal; वेदयते (vedayate) - knows; गुहाशयम् (guhāśayam) - dweller in the cave (of the heart); प्रभुम् (prabhum) - lord; पुराणम् (purāṇam) - ancient; पुरुषम् (puruṣam) - person; विश्वरूपम् (viśvarūpam) - of universal form; हिरण्मयम् (hiraṇmayam) - golden; बुद्धिमताम् (buddhimatām) - of the wise; पराम् (parām) - supreme; गतिम् (gatim) - goal; सः (saḥ) - he; बुद्धिमान् (buddhimān) - wise; बुद्धिमतीत्य (buddhimatītya) - having surpassed the wise; तिष्ठति (tiṣṭhati) - remains;]
(Who knows you, the eternal, the dweller in the cave (of the heart), the lord, the ancient, the person of universal form, the golden, the supreme goal of the wise; he, wise, having surpassed the wise, remains.)
He who knows you as the eternal one, the indweller of the heart, the lord, the ancient person of universal form, the golden one, the supreme goal of the wise—he, being wise, stands above even the wise. (13-15-44)
विदित्वा सप्त सूक्ष्माणि षडङ्गं त्वां च मूर्तितः। प्रधानविधियोगस्थस्त्वामेव विशते बुधः ॥१३-१५-४५॥
viditvā sapta sūkṣmāṇi ṣaḍ-aṅgaṃ tvāṃ ca mūrtitaḥ। pradhāna-vidhi-yoga-sthas-tvām-eva viśate budhaḥ ॥13-15-45॥
[विदित्वा (viditvā) - having known; सप्त (sapta) - seven; सूक्ष्माणि (sūkṣmāṇi) - subtle (things); षडङ्गं (ṣaḍ-aṅgam) - six-limbed; त्वां (tvām) - you; च (ca) - and; मूर्तितः (mūrtitaḥ) - as embodied; प्रधानविधियोगस्थः (pradhāna-vidhi-yoga-sthaḥ) - situated in the principal method of union; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; एव (eva) - only; विशते (viśate) - enters; बुधः (budhaḥ) - the wise one;]
(Having known the seven subtle (things), the six-limbed, you and as embodied, situated in the principal method of union, the wise one enters only you.)
Having realized the seven subtle principles, the six limbs, and you in embodied form, the wise one, established in the principal method of union, enters into you alone. (13-15-45)
एवमुक्ते मया पार्थ भवे चार्तिविनाशने। चराचरं जगत्सर्वं सिंहनादमथाकरोत् ॥१३-१५-४६॥
evamukte mayā pārtha bhave cārtivināśane। carācaraṃ jagatsarvaṃ siṃhanādamathākarot ॥13-15-46॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्ते (ukte) - having been said; मया (mayā) - by me; पार्थ (pārtha) - O Pārtha; भवे (bhave) - in the becoming; च (ca) - and; आर्ति-विनाशने (ārtivināśane) - in the destroyer of distress; चराचरम् (carācaram) - moving and unmoving; जगत् (jagat) - world; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; सिंहनादम् (siṃhanādam) - lion's roar; अथ (atha) - then; अकरोत् (akarot) - made;]
(Thus having been said by me, O Pārtha, in the becoming and in the destroyer of distress, the entire world, moving and unmoving, then made a lion's roar.)
When I had thus spoken, O Pārtha, in the presence of the destroyer of distress, the entire world, both moving and unmoving, then let out a lion's roar. (13-15-46)
सविप्रसङ्घाश्च सुरासुराश्च; नागाः पिशाचाः पितरो वयांसि। रक्षोगणा भूतगणाश्च सर्वे; महर्षयश्चैव तथा प्रणेमुः ॥१३-१५-४७॥
saviprasaṅghāś ca surāsurāś ca; nāgāḥ piśācāḥ pitaro vayāṃsi। rakṣogaṇā bhūtagaṇāś ca sarve; maharṣayaś caiva tathā praṇemuḥ ॥13-15-47॥
[सविप्रसङ्घाः (saviprasaṅghāḥ) - together-with-brahmin-groups; च (ca) - and; सुरासुराः (surāsurāḥ) - gods-and-demons; च (ca) - and; नागाः (nāgāḥ) - serpents; पिशाचाः (piśācāḥ) - goblins; पितरः (pitarah) - ancestors; वयांसि (vayāṃsi) - birds; रक्षोगणाः (rakṣogaṇāḥ) - rakṣasa-groups; भूतगणाः (bhūtagaṇāḥ) - spirit-groups; च (ca) - and; सर्वे (sarve) - all; महर्षयः (maharṣayaḥ) - great-sages; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; तथा (tathā) - likewise; प्रणेमुः (praṇemuḥ) - bowed;]
(Together-with-brahmin-groups and gods-and-demons and serpents, goblins, ancestors, birds, rakṣasa-groups, spirit-groups and all, great-sages and indeed likewise bowed.)
Together with the groups of brahmins, the gods and demons, serpents, goblins, ancestors, birds, the rakṣasa hosts, all the spirit hosts, and all the great sages likewise bowed. (13-15-47)
मम मूर्ध्नि च दिव्यानां कुसुमानां सुगन्धिनाम्। राशयो निपतन्ति स्म वायुश्च सुसुखो ववौ ॥१३-१५-४८॥
mama mūrdhni ca divyānāṃ kusumānāṃ sugandhinām। rāśayo nipatanti sma vāyuśca susukho vavau ॥13-15-48॥
[मम (mama) - my; मूर्ध्नि (mūrdhni) - on (the) head; च (ca) - and; दिव्यानाम् (divyānām) - of divine; कुसुमानाम् (kusumānām) - of flowers; सुगन्धिनाम् (sugandhinām) - fragrant; राशयः (rāśayaḥ) - heaps; निपतन्ति (nipatanti) - fall; स्म (sma) - indeed; वायुः (vāyuḥ) - wind; च (ca) - and; सुसुखः (susukhaḥ) - very pleasant; ववौ (vavau) - blew;]
(My on (the) head and of divine of flowers fragrant heaps fall indeed; wind and very pleasant blew.)
Heaps of fragrant divine flowers fell on my head, and a very pleasant wind blew. (13-15-48)
निरीक्ष्य भगवान्देवीमुमां मां च जगद्धितः। शतक्रतुं चाभिवीक्ष्य स्वयं मामाह शङ्करः ॥१३-१५-४९॥
nirīkṣya bhagavān devīm umām māṃ ca jagaddhitaḥ। śatakratuṃ ca abhivīkṣya svayam mām āha śaṅkaraḥ ॥13-15-49॥
[निरीक्ष्य (nirīkṣya) - having observed; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the venerable one; देवीम् (devīm) - the goddess; उमाम् (umām) - Umā; माम् (mām) - me; च (ca) - and; जगद्धितः (jagaddhitaḥ) - for the welfare of the world; शतक्रतुं (śatakratuṃ) - Indra; च (ca) - and; अभिवीक्ष्य (abhivīkṣya) - having looked at; स्वयम् (svayam) - himself; माम् (mām) - to me; आह (āha) - said; शङ्करः (śaṅkaraḥ) - Śaṅkara;]
(Having observed the goddess Umā, me, and for the welfare of the world, and having looked at Indra, himself Śaṅkara said to me.)
Śaṅkara, having looked at the goddess Umā, myself, and Indra for the welfare of the world, then spoke to me himself. (13-15-49)
विद्मः कृष्ण परां भक्तिमस्मासु तव शत्रुहन्। क्रियतामात्मनः श्रेयः प्रीतिर्हि परमा त्वयि ॥१३-१५-५०॥
vidmaḥ kṛṣṇa parāṃ bhaktim asmāsu tava śatruhan। kriyatām ātmanaḥ śreyaḥ prītir hi paramā tvayi ॥13-15-50॥
[विद्मः (vidmaḥ) - we know; कृष्ण (kṛṣṇa) - O Kṛṣṇa; परां (parām) - supreme; भक्तिम् (bhaktim) - devotion; अस्मासु (asmāsu) - in us; तव (tava) - your; शत्रुहन् (śatruhan) - O destroyer of enemies; क्रियताम् (kriyatām) - let it be done; आत्मनः (ātmanaḥ) - for the self; श्रेयः (śreyaḥ) - welfare; प्रीतिः (prītiḥ) - affection; हि (hi) - indeed; परमा (paramā) - supreme; त्वयि (tvayi) - in you;]
(We know, O Kṛṣṇa, supreme devotion in us, your, O destroyer of enemies. Let it be done for the self, welfare. Affection indeed supreme in you. (13-15-50))
O Kṛṣṇa, destroyer of enemies, we know that supreme devotion to you exists in us. Let the highest welfare for the self be accomplished, for indeed, supreme affection is in you. (13-15-50)
वृणीष्वाष्टौ वरान्कृष्ण दातास्मि तव सत्तम। ब्रूहि यादवशार्दूल यानिच्छसि सुदुर्लभान् ॥१३-१५-५१॥
vṛṇīṣvāṣṭau varānkṛṣṇa dātāsmi tava sattama। brūhi yāda-vaśārdūla yānicchasi sudurlabhān ॥13-15-51॥
[वृणीष्व (vṛṇīṣva) - choose; (imperative); अष्टौ (aṣṭau) - eight; वरान् (varān) - boons; कृष्ण (kṛṣṇa) - Kṛṣṇa; दाता (dātā) - giver; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; तव (tava) - your; सत्तम (sattama) - best (among beings); ब्रूहि (brūhi) - speak; (imperative); यादव (yādava) - descendant of Yadu; शार्दूल (śārdūla) - tiger; यानि (yāni) - which; इच्छसि (icchasi) - you desire; सुदुर्लभान् (sudurlabhān) - very difficult to obtain;]
(Choose eight boons, Kṛṣṇa; I am the giver, your best (among beings). Speak, O tiger among Yadus, which very difficult to obtain (boons) you desire.)
Choose eight boons, Kṛṣṇa; I am your giver, O best among beings. Tell me, O tiger among the Yadavas, which very rare boons you desire. (13-15-51)
