vidureṇaivamuktastu dhṛtarāṣṭro janādhipaḥ। prītimāna'bhavad rājā rājño jiṣṇoś ca karmaṇā ॥15-20-1॥
[विदुरेण (vidureṇa) - by Vidura; एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्तः (uktaḥ) - spoken (to); तु (tu) - but; धृतराष्ट्रः (dhṛtarāṣṭraḥ) - Dhṛtarāṣṭra; जनाधिपः (janādhipaḥ) - the king (lord of people); प्रीतिमान् (prītimān) - full of satisfaction; अभवत् (abhavat) - became; राजा (rājā) - the king; राज्ञः (rājñaḥ) - of the king; जिष्णोः (jiṣṇoḥ) - of Jiṣṇu (Arjuna); च (ca) - and; कर्मणा (karmaṇā) - by the action;]
(But Dhṛtarāṣṭra, the king, having thus been addressed by Vidura, became satisfied by the action of the king and of Jiṣṇu.)
When Vidura thus spoke, Dhṛtarāṣṭra, the king, became pleased on account of the actions of the king and of Jiṣṇu (Arjuna). (15-20-1)
ततोऽभिरूपान्भीष्माय ब्राह्मणानृषिसत्तमान्। पुत्रार्थे सुहृदां चैव स समीक्ष्य सहस्रशः ॥१५-२०-२॥
tato'bhirūpānbhīṣmāya brāhmaṇān ṛṣisattamān। putrārthe suhṛdāṃ caiva sa samīkṣya sahasraśaḥ॥15-20-2॥

कारयित्वान्नपानानि यानान्याच्छादनानि च। सुवर्णमणिरत्नानि दासीदासपरिच्छदान् ॥१५-२०-३॥

कम्बलाजिनरत्नानि ग्रामान्क्षेत्रानजाविकम्। अलङ्कारान्गजानश्वान्कन्याश्चैव वरस्त्रियः ॥ आदिश्यादिश्य विप्रेभ्यो ददौ स नृपसत्तमः ॥१५-२०-४॥
kambalājinaratnāni grāmānkṣetrānajāvikam। alaṅkārāngajānaśvānkanyāścaiva varastriyaḥ ॥ ādiśyādiśya viprebhyo dadau sa nṛpasattamaḥ ॥15-20-4॥
[कम्बल-आजिन-रत्नानि (kambalājinaratnāni) - blankets, animal-skins, jewels; ग्रामान् (grāmān) - villages; क्षेत्रान् (kṣetrān) - fields; अजाविकम् (ajāvikam) - goats and sheep; अलङ्कारान् (alaṅkārān) - ornaments; गजान् (gajān) - elephants; अश्वान् (aśvān) - horses; कन्याः (kanyāḥ) - girls; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; वर-स्त्रियः (varastriyaḥ) - excellent women; आदिश्य-आदिश्य (ādiśyādiśya) - having repeatedly enjoined; विप्रेभ्यः (viprebhyaḥ) - to the Brāhmaṇas; ददौ (dadau) - he gave; स नृपसत्तमः (sa nṛpasattamaḥ) - that best among kings;]
(Blankets, animal-skins, jewels, villages, fields, goats and sheep, ornaments, elephants, horses, girls and indeed excellent women—having repeatedly enjoined, to the Brāhmaṇas, he gave, that best among kings.)
That best among kings gave blankets, animal-skins, jewels, villages, fields, goats and sheep, ornaments, elephants, horses, girls, and excellent women again and again to the Brāhmaṇas. (15-20-4)
द्रोणं सङ्कीर्त्य भीष्मं च सोमदत्तं च बाह्लिकम्। दुर्योधनं च राजानं पुत्रांश्चैव पृथक्पृथक् ॥ जयद्रथपुरोगांश्च सुहृदश्चैव सर्वशः ॥१५-२०-५॥
droṇaṃ saṅkīrt-ya bhīṣmaṃ ca somadattaṃ ca bāhlikam। duryodhanaṃ ca rājānaṃ putrāṃś-caiva pṛthak-pṛthak ॥ jayadrathapurogāṃś-ca suhṛdaś-caiva sarvaśaḥ ॥15-20-5॥

(Having recited Droṇa, and Bhīṣma, and Somadatta, and Bāhlika, and Duryodhana, the king, and the sons indeed each separately, and also those headed by Jayadratha, and friends indeed entirely.)
He recalled Droṇa, Bhīṣma, Somadatta, Bāhlika, Duryodhana the king, the sons individually, as well as all the friends, including those headed by Jayadratha, completely. (15-20-5)
स श्राद्धयज्ञो ववृधे बहुगोधनदक्षिणः। अनेकधनरत्नौघो युधिष्ठिरमते तदा ॥१५-२०-६॥
sa śrāddhayajño vavṛdhe bahu-godhana-dakṣiṇaḥ। aneka-dhana-ratna-oghaḥ yudhiṣṭhira-mate tadā ॥15-20-6॥
[स (sa) - he; (or) that; (here, referring to the śrāddhayajña); श्राद्धयज्ञः (śrāddhayajñaḥ) - the śrāddha sacrifice; (funeral or ancestral rite); ववृधे (vavṛdhe) - increased; grew; became expanded; बहुगोधनदक्षिणः (bahu-godhana-dakṣiṇaḥ) - with many cows and wealth (as) gifts; (bahu = many, godhana = cows and wealth, dakṣiṇaḥ = gifts;) अनेकधनरत्नौघः (aneka-dhana-ratna-oghaḥ) - with a multitude of numerous wealth and jewels; (aneka = various, dhanaratna = wealth and jewels, oghaḥ = flood, multitude;) युधिष्ठिरमते (yudhiṣṭhira-mate) - in the wish (or decision) of Yudhiṣṭhira; (under Yudhiṣṭhira's direction;) तदा (tadā) - at that time;]
(He, the śrāddha sacrifice, increased, with many cows and wealth (as) gifts; with a multitude of various wealth and jewels, in the decision of Yudhiṣṭhira at that time.)
At that time, the śrāddha sacrifice increased greatly with many cows and gifts of wealth, and with an abundance of riches and jewels, according to the decision of Yudhiṣṭhira. (15-20-6)
अनिशं यत्र पुरुषा गणका लेखकास्तथा। युधिष्ठिरस्य वचनात्तदापृच्छन्ति तं नृपम् ॥१५-२०-७॥
aniśaṁ yatra puruṣā gaṇakā lekhakās tathā। yudhiṣṭhirasya vacanāt tad āpṛcchanti taṁ nṛpam॥15-20-7॥
[अनिशं (aniśam) - always; यत्र (yatra) - where; पुरुषाः (puruṣāḥ) - men; गणकाः (gaṇakāḥ) - accountants; लेखकाः (lekhakāḥ) - scribes; तथा (tathā) - likewise; युधिष्ठिरस्य (yudhiṣṭhirasya) - of Yudhiṣṭhira; वचनात् (vacanāt) - from the words; तत् (tat) - that; आपृच्छन्ति (āpṛcchanti) - inquire; तम् (tam) - him; नृपम् (nṛpam) - king;]
(Always where men, accountants, scribes likewise, from the words of Yudhiṣṭhira, that inquire him, king.)
Wherever there are always men, accountants, and scribes, they inquire of that king in accordance with Yudhiṣṭhira's words. (15-20-7)
आज्ञापय किमेतेभ्यः प्रदेयं दीयतामिति। तदुपस्थितमेवात्र वचनान्ते प्रदृश्यते ॥१५-२०-८॥
ājñāpaya kim etebhyaḥ pradeyaṃ dīyatām iti. tad upasthitam eva atra vacanānte pradṛśyate ॥15-20-8॥

शते देये दशशतं सहस्रे चायुतं तथा। दीयते वचनाद्राज्ञः कुन्तीपुत्रस्य धीमतः ॥१५-२०-९॥
śate deye daśaśataṃ sahasre cāyutaṃ tathā। dīyate vacanādrājñaḥ kuntīputrasya dhīmataḥ ॥15-20-9॥
[शते (śate) - for a hundred; देये (deye) - to be given; दशशतम् (daśaśatam) - a thousand (ten hundred); सहस्रे (sahasre) - for a thousand; च (ca) - and; आयुतम् (āyutam) - ten thousand; तथा (tathā) - likewise; दीयते (dīyate) - is given; वचनात् (vacanāt) - by the word; राज्ञः (rājñaḥ) - of the king; कुन्तीपुत्रस्य (kuntīputrasya) - of the son of Kuntī; धीमतः (dhīmataḥ) - of the wise;]
(For a hundred, to be given is a thousand; for a thousand, likewise ten thousand is given; by the word of the wise king, son of Kuntī.)
When a hundred is to be given, a thousand is granted; and for a thousand, likewise ten thousand is granted, by the command of the wise son of Kuntī, the king. (15-20-9)
एवं स वसुधाराभिर्वर्षमाणो नृपाम्बुदः। तर्पयामास विप्रांस्तान्वर्षन्भूमिमिवाम्बुदः ॥१५-२०-१०॥
evaṃ sa vasudhārābhir varṣamāṇo nṛpāmbudaḥ। tarpayāmāsa viprāṃs tān varṣan bhūmim ivāmbudaḥ॥15-20-10॥
[एवं (evaṃ) - thus; स (sa) - he; वसुधाराभिः (vasudhārābhiḥ) - with streams of gifts; वर्षमाणः (varṣamāṇaḥ) - pouring; नृपाम्बुदः (nṛpa-ambudaḥ) - the king-cloud; तर्पयामास (tarpayāmāsa) - satisfied; विप्रान् (viprān) - the Brāhmaṇas; तान् (tān) - those; वर्षन् (varṣan) - raining; भूमिम् (bhūmim) - the earth; इव (iva) - like; अम्बुदः (ambudaḥ) - cloud;]
(Thus, he, pouring (gifts) with streams of gifts, the king-cloud, satisfied those Brāhmaṇas, raining upon (them) like a cloud (rains) on the earth.)
In this way, the king, like a cloud pouring streams of gifts, satisfied those Brāhmaṇas just as a cloud rains upon the earth. (15-20-10)
ततोऽनन्तरमेवात्र सर्ववर्णान्महीपतिः। अन्नपानरसौघेन प्लावयामास पार्थिवः ॥१५-२०-११॥
tato'nantaramevātra sarvavarṇānmahīpatiḥ| annapānarasaughena plāvayāmāsa pārthivaḥ ॥15-20-11॥

सवस्त्रफेनरत्नौघो मृदङ्गनिनदस्वनः। गवाश्वमकरावर्तो नारीरत्नमहाकरः ॥१५-२०-१२॥
savastraphēnaratnaugho mṛdaṅganinadasvanaḥ। gavāśvakarāvarto nārīratnamahākaraḥ ॥15-20-12॥

A great river, having cloth, foam, heaps of jewels, the sound of mṛdaṅga drums, the noise of cows and horses, swirling with crocodiles, and adorned with women and gems. (15-20-12)
ग्रामाग्रहारकुल्याढ्यो मणिहेमजलार्णवः। जगत्सम्प्लावयामास धृतराष्ट्रदयाम्बुधिः ॥१५-२०-१३॥
grāmāgrāhārakulyāḍhyo maṇi-hema-jalārṇavaḥ। jagat-samplāvayāmāsa dhṛtarāṣṭra-dayāmbudhiḥ ॥15-20-13॥

एवं स पुत्रपौत्राणां पितॄणामात्मनस्तथा। गान्धार्याश्च महाराज प्रददावौर्ध्वदेहिकम् ॥१५-२०-१४॥
evaṃ sa putrapautrāṇāṃ pitṝṇām ātmanas tathā। gāndhāryāś ca mahārāja pradadāv aurdhvadehikam ॥15-20-14॥
[एवं (evaṃ) - thus; स (sa) - he; पुत्रपौत्राणां (putrapautrāṇām) - of sons and grandsons; पितॄणाम् (pitṝṇām) - of fathers (ancestors); आत्मनः (ātmanas) - of himself; तथा (tathā) - also; गान्धार्याश्च (gāndhāryāś ca) - and of Gāndhārī; महाराज (mahārāja) - O great king; प्रददौ (pradadāu) - gave; और्ध्वदेहिकम् (aurdhvadehikam) - funerary (rites);]

परिश्रान्तो यदासीत्स ददद्दानान्यनेकशः। ततो निर्वर्तयामास दानयज्ञं कुरूद्वहः ॥१५-२०-१५॥
pariśrānto yadāsīts dadaddānānyanekaśaḥ. tato nirvartayāmāsa dānayajñaṃ kurūdvahaḥ ॥15-20-15॥
[परिश्रान्तः (pariśrāntaḥ) - fatigued; weary; यदा (yadā) - when; असीत् (asīt) - he was; सः (saḥ) - he; ददत् (dadat) - giving; दानानि (dānāni) - gifts; अनेकशः (anekazaḥ) - repeatedly; many times; ततः (tataḥ) - then; निर्वर्तयामास (nirvartayāmāsa) - he accomplished; he performed; दानयज्ञम् (dānayajñam) - gift-sacrifice; donation ceremony; कुरूद्वहः (kurūdvahaḥ) - O best of the Kurus;]

एवं स राजा कौरव्यश्चक्रे दानमहोत्सवम्। नटनर्तकलास्याढ्यं बह्वन्नरसदक्षिणम् ॥१५-२०-१६॥
evaṁ sa rāyā kauravyaś cakre dānamahotsavam। naṭa-nartaka-lāsyāḍhyaṁ bahv-annarasa-dakṣiṇam ॥15-20-16॥
[एवं (evaṁ) - thus; स (sa) - he; राजा (rājā) - king; कौरव्यः (kauravyaḥ) - Kauravya (descendant of Kuru); चक्रे (cakre) - performed; दानमहोत्सवम् (dānamahotsavam) - great festival of gifts; नटनर्तकलास्याढ्यम् (naṭa-nartaka-lāsyāḍhyam) - abounding in actors, dancers, and dances; बह्वन्नरसदक्षिणम् (bahv-anna-rasa-dakṣiṇam) - abundant in food, drinks, and gifts;]
(Thus he king Kauravya performed great festival of gifts, abounding in actors, dancers, and dances, abundant in food, drinks, and gifts.)
Thus King Kauravya performed a great festival of charity, which was full of actors, dancers, and performances, and abundant in food, delicacies, and generous gifts. (15-20-16)
दशाहमेवं दानानि दत्त्वा राजाम्बिकासुतः। बभूव पुत्रपौत्राणामनृणो भरतर्षभ ॥१५-२०-१७॥
daśāham-evaṃ dānāni dattvā rājāmbikāsutaḥ। babhūva putra-pautrāṇām anṛṇo bharatarṣabha ॥15-20-17॥
