Pancharatra: Krishna and Balarama visit Pandavas.

भ्रातुर्वचस्तत्प्रसमीक्ष्य सर्वे; ज्येष्ठस्य पाण्डोस्तनयास्तदानीम्। तमेवार्थं ध्यायमाना मनोभि; रासां चक्रुरथ तत्रामितौजाः ॥१-१८३-१॥
bhrātur vacas tat-prasamīkṣya sarve; jyeṣṭhasya pāṇḍos tanayās tadānīm. tam eva arthaṃ dhyāyamānā manobhiḥ; āsāṃ cakruḥ atha tatra amita-aujāḥ ॥1-183-1॥
[भ्रातुः (bhrātuḥ) - of the brother; वचः (vacaḥ) - word; तत् (tat) - that; प्रसमीक्ष्य (prasamīkṣya) - having considered; सर्वे (sarve) - all; ज्येष्ठस्य (jyeṣṭhasya) - of the eldest; पाण्डोः (pāṇḍoḥ) - of Pāṇḍu; तनयाः (tanayāḥ) - sons; तदानीम् (tadānīm) - then; तम् (tam) - that; एव (eva) - indeed; अर्थम् (artham) - meaning; ध्यायमाना (dhyāyamānā) - contemplating; मनोभिः (manobhiḥ) - with their minds; आसाम् (āsām) - of them; चक्रुः (cakruḥ) - they did; अथ (atha) - then; तत्र (tatra) - there; अमितौजाः (amita-aujāḥ) - of immeasurable energy;]
(Having considered the brother's word, all the sons of Pāṇḍu, then, contemplating that very meaning with their minds, those of immeasurable energy, then, there, acted.)
All the sons of Pāṇḍu, having considered the words of their elder brother, then, with their minds fixed on that very meaning, those of immeasurable energy, acted accordingly there.
वृष्णिप्रवीरस्तु कुरुप्रवीरा; नाशङ्कमानः सहरौहिणेयः। जगाम तां भार्गवकर्मशालां; यत्रासते ते पुरुषप्रवीराः ॥१-१८३-२॥
vṛṣṇipravīras tu kurupravīrāḥ; nāśaṅkamānaḥ saharauhiṇeyaḥ. jagāma tāṃ bhārgavakarmaśālāṃ; yatrāsate te puruṣapravīrāḥ ॥1-183-2॥
[वृष्णिप्रवीरः (vṛṣṇipravīraḥ) - the eminent hero of the Vṛṣṇis; तु (tu) - but; कुरुप्रवीराः (kurupravīrāḥ) - the eminent heroes of the Kurus; न (na) - not; आशङ्कमानः (āśaṅkamānaḥ) - fearing; सहरौहिणेयः (saharauhiṇeyaḥ) - together with the son of Rohiṇī; जगाम (jagāma) - went; तां (tāṃ) - to that; भार्गवकर्मशालां (bhārgavakarmaśālāṃ) - workshop of Bhārgava; यत्र (yatra) - where; आसते (āsate) - sit; ते (te) - those; पुरुषप्रवीराः (puruṣapravīrāḥ) - eminent men;]
(The eminent hero of the Vṛṣṇis, but the eminent heroes of the Kurus, not fearing, together with the son of Rohiṇī, went to that workshop of Bhārgava, where those eminent men sit.)
But the eminent hero of the Vṛṣṇis, together with the son of Rohiṇī, unafraid of the eminent Kurus, went to the workshop of Bhārgava, where those eminent men reside.
तत्रोपविष्टं पृथुदीर्घबाहुं; ददर्श कृष्णः सहरौहिणेयः। अजातशत्रुं परिवार्य तांश्च; उपोपविष्टाञ्ज्वलनप्रकाशान् ॥१-१८३-३॥
tatropaviṣṭaṃ pṛthudīrghabāhuṃ; dadarśa kṛṣṇaḥ saharauhiṇeyaḥ. ajātaśatruṃ parivārya tāṃśca; upopaviṣṭāñjvalanaprakāśān ॥1-183-3॥
[तत्र (tatra) - there; उपविष्टं (upaviṣṭam) - seated; पृथु (pṛthu) - broad; दीर्घ (dīrgha) - long; बाहुं (bāhum) - armed; ददर्श (dadarśa) - saw; कृष्णः (kṛṣṇaḥ) - Kṛṣṇa; सहरौहिणेयः (saharauhiṇeyaḥ) - with Rāma (Rauhiṇeya, i.e., Balarāma); अजातशत्रुं (ajātaśatruṃ) - Ajātaśatru (Yudhiṣṭhira, 'one whose enemy is not born'); परिवार्य (parivārya) - having surrounded; तान् (tān) - them; च (ca) - and; उपोपविष्टान् (upopaviṣṭān) - seated nearby; ज्वलन (jvalana) - shining; प्रकाशान् (prakāśān) - brilliant;]
(There seated, broad and long-armed, Kṛṣṇa with Rauhiṇeya saw Ajātaśatru, having surrounded them, and those seated nearby, shining, brilliant.)
There, Kṛṣṇa together with Balarāma saw Yudhiṣṭhira, the enemyless one, surrounded by his companions and those seated nearby, all shining with brilliance.
ततोऽब्रवीद्वासुदेवोऽभिगम्य; कुन्तीसुतं धर्मभृतां वरिष्ठम्। कृष्णोऽहमस्मीति निपीड्य पादौ; युधिष्ठिरस्याजमीढस्य राज्ञः ॥१-१८३-४॥
tato'bravīd vāsudevo'bhigamya; kuntīsutaṃ dharmabhṛtāṃ variṣṭham। kṛṣṇo'ham asmīti nipīḍya pādau; yudhiṣṭhirasya ajamīḍhasya rājñaḥ ॥1-183-4॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke; वासुदेवः (vāsudevaḥ) - Vasudeva; अभिगम्य (abhigamya) - having approached; कुन्ती-सुतम् (kuntī-sutam) - Kunti's son; धर्म-भृताम् (dharma-bhṛtām) - of the upholders of dharma; वरिष्ठम् (variṣṭham) - the foremost; कृष्णः (kṛṣṇaḥ) - Kṛṣṇa; अहम् (aham) - I; अस्मि (asmi) - am; इति (iti) - thus; निपीड्य (nipīḍya) - having pressed; पादौ (pādau) - feet; युधिष्ठिरस्य (yudhiṣṭhirasya) - of Yudhiṣṭhira; अजमीढस्य (ajamīḍhasya) - of Ajāmīḍha (epithet of Yudhiṣṭhira); राज्ञः (rājñaḥ) - of the king;]
(Then Vasudeva, having approached Kunti's son, the foremost of the upholders of dharma, Kṛṣṇa, said, "I am he," and having pressed the feet of Yudhiṣṭhira, Ajāmīḍha, the king.)
Then Vasudeva approached Yudhiṣṭhira, the foremost among the upholders of dharma, and Kṛṣṇa, pressing the feet of King Yudhiṣṭhira (Ajāmīḍha), declared, "I am he."
तथैव तस्याप्यनु रौहिणेय; स्तौ चापि हृष्टाः कुरवोऽभ्यनन्दन्। पितृष्वसुश्चापि यदुप्रवीरा; वगृह्णतां भारतमुख्य पादौ ॥१-१८३-५॥
tathaiva tasyāpyanu rauhiṇeya; stau cāpi hṛṣṭāḥ kuravo'bhyanandan. pitṛṣvasuścāpi yadupravīrā; vagṛhṇatāṃ bhāratamukhya pādau ॥1-183-5॥
[तथैव (tathaiva) - in the same manner; तस्यापि (tasyāpi) - of him also; अनु (anu) - after; रौहिणेय (rauhiṇeya) - Rauhineya (son of Rohini, i.e., Balarama); स्तौ (stau) - praised; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; हृष्टाः (hṛṣṭāḥ) - delighted; कुरवः (kuravaḥ) - the Kurus; अभ्यनन्दन् (abhyanandan) - welcomed; पितृष्वसुश्च (pitṛṣvasuśca) - and the paternal aunts; अपि (api) - also; यदुप्रवीराः (yadupravīrāḥ) - the foremost of the Yadus; वगृह्णताम् (vagṛhṇatām) - were embracing; भारतमुख्य (bhāratamukhya) - O chief of the Bharatas; पादौ (pādau) - feet;]
(In the same manner, after him also, Rauhineya; praised, and also delighted, the Kurus welcomed. And the paternal aunts also, the foremost of the Yadus, were embracing, O chief of the Bharatas, the feet.)
In the same way, after him, Balarama was praised, and the delighted Kurus welcomed him. The paternal aunts and the foremost of the Yadus also embraced the feet of the chief of the Bharatas.
अजातशत्रुश्च कुरुप्रवीरः; पप्रच्छ कृष्णं कुशलं निवेद्य। कथं वयं वासुदेव त्वयेह; गूढा वसन्तो विदिताः स्म सर्वे ॥१-१८३-६॥
ajātaśatruś ca kurupravīraḥ; papraccha kṛṣṇaṃ kuśalaṃ nivedya. kathaṃ vayaṃ vāsudeva tvayeha; gūḍhā vasanto viditāḥ sma sarve ॥1-183-6॥
[अजातशत्रुः (ajātaśatruḥ) - one whose enemy is not born; च (ca) - and; कुरुप्रवीरः (kurupravīraḥ) - the foremost among the Kurus; पप्रच्छ (papraccha) - asked; कृष्णम् (kṛṣṇam) - Kṛṣṇa; कुशलम् (kuśalam) - well-being; निवेद्य (nivedya) - having informed; कथम् (katham) - how; वयम् (vayam) - we; वासुदेव (vāsudeva) - O Vāsudeva; त्वयि (tvayi) - to you; इह (iha) - here; गूढाः (gūḍhāḥ) - hidden; वसन्तः (vasantaḥ) - dwelling; विदिताः (viditāḥ) - known; स्म (sma) - indeed; सर्वे (sarve) - all;]
(Ajātaśatru and the foremost among the Kurus, having informed Kṛṣṇa of their well-being, asked: "How is it, O Vāsudeva, that we, dwelling here hidden, have become known to you, all of us indeed?")
Ajātaśatru, the foremost of the Kurus, after informing Kṛṣṇa of their well-being, asked: "O Vāsudeva, how is it that all of us, though dwelling here in secret, have become known to you?"
तमब्रवीद्वासुदेवः प्रहस्य; गूढोऽप्यग्निर्ज्ञायत एव राजन्। तं विक्रमं पाण्डवेयानतीत्य; कोऽन्यः कर्ता विद्यते मानुषेषु ॥१-१८३-७॥
tam abravīd vāsudevaḥ prahasya; gūḍho'py agnir jñāyata eva rājan. taṃ vikramaṃ pāṇḍaveyān atītya; ko'nyaḥ kartā vidyate mānuṣeṣu ॥1-183-7॥
[तम् (tam) - him; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; वासुदेवः (vāsudevaḥ) - Vāsudeva; प्रहस्य (prahasya) - having smiled; गूढः (gūḍhaḥ) - hidden; अपि (api) - even; अग्निः (agniḥ) - fire; ज्ञायत (jñāyata) - is recognized; एव (eva) - indeed; राजन् (rājan) - O king; तम् (tam) - that; विक्रमम् (vikramam) - valour; पाण्डवेयान् (pāṇḍaveyān) - the sons of Pāṇḍu; अतीत्य (atītya) - having surpassed; कः (kaḥ) - who; अन्यः (anyaḥ) - other; कर्ता (kartā) - doer; विद्यते (vidyate) - exists; मानुषेषु (mānuṣeṣu) - among men;]
(Vāsudeva, having smiled, said to him: "Even if fire is hidden, O king, it is indeed recognized. Who else among men exists as a doer, having surpassed that valour of the sons of Pāṇḍu?")
Vāsudeva smiled and said to him: "O king, even if fire is concealed, it is always recognized. Who else among men could accomplish what the sons of Pāṇḍu have, surpassing such valour?"
दिष्ट्या तस्मात्पावकात्सम्प्रमुक्ता; यूयं सर्वे पाण्डवाः शत्रुसाहाः। दिष्ट्या पापो धृतराष्ट्रस्य पुत्रः; सहामात्यो न सकामोऽभविष्यत् ॥१-१८३-८॥
diṣṭyā tasmātpāvakātsampramuktā; yūyaṃ sarve pāṇḍavāḥ śatrusāhāḥ। diṣṭyā pāpo dhṛtarāṣṭrasya putraḥ; sahāmātyo na sakāmo'bhaviṣyat ॥1-183-8॥
[दिष्ट्या (diṣṭyā) - by fortune; तस्मात् (tasmāt) - from that; पावकात् (pāvakāt) - from fire; सम्प्रमुक्ताः (sampramuktāḥ) - completely released; यूयम् (yūyam) - you; सर्वे (sarve) - all; पाण्डवाः (pāṇḍavāḥ) - Pāṇḍavas; शत्रुसाहाः (śatrusāhāḥ) - conquerors of enemies; दिष्ट्या (diṣṭyā) - by fortune; पापः (pāpaḥ) - the wicked; धृतराष्ट्रस्य (dhṛtarāṣṭrasya) - of Dhṛtarāṣṭra; पुत्रः (putraḥ) - son; सह (saha) - together with; अमात्यः (amātyaḥ) - minister; न (na) - not; सकामः (sakāmaḥ) - with desire; अभविष्यत् (abhaviṣyat) - would have been;]
(By fortune, from that fire you have been completely released; you all, Pāṇḍavas, conquerors of enemies. By fortune, the wicked son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, together with his minister, would not have remained with desire.)
By good fortune, you Pāṇḍavas, all conquerors of enemies, have been completely freed from that fire. By good fortune, the wicked son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, together with his minister, would not have survived with his desires.
भद्रं वोऽस्तु निहितं यद्गुहायां; विवर्धध्वं ज्वलन इवेध्यमानः। मा वो विद्युः पार्थिवाः केचनेह; यास्यावहे शिबिरायैव तावत् ॥ सोऽनुज्ञातः पाण्डवेनाव्ययश्रीः; प्रायाच्छीघ्रं बलदेवेन सार्धम् ॥१-१८३-९॥
bhadraṃ vo'stu nihitaṃ yadguhāyāṃ; vivardhadhvaṃ jvalana ivedhyamānaḥ। mā vo vidyuḥ pārthivāḥ kecaneha; yāsyāvahe śibirāyaiva tāvat ॥ so'anujñātaḥ pāṇḍavenāvyayaśrīḥ; prāyācchīghraṃ baladevena sārdham ॥1-183-9॥
[भद्रं (bhadram) - auspiciousness; वः (vaḥ) - to you (all); अस्तु (astu) - let it be; निहितं (nihitam) - placed; यत् (yat) - which; गुहायां (guhāyām) - in the cave; विवर्धध्वं (vivardhadhvam) - may you all grow; ज्वलनः (jvalanaḥ) - fire; इव (iva) - like; इध्यमानः (idhyamānaḥ) - being kindled; मा (mā) - not; वः (vaḥ) - to you (all); विद्युः (vidyuḥ) - may know; पार्थिवाः (pārthivāḥ) - kings; केचन (kecana) - any; इह (iha) - here; यास्यावहे (yāsyāvahe) - let us go; शिबिराय (śibirāya) - to the camp; एव (eva) - only; तावत् (tāvat) - for now; सः (saḥ) - he; अनुज्ञातः (anujñātaḥ) - permitted; पाण्डवेन (pāṇḍavena) - by the Pāṇḍava; अव्ययश्रीः (avyayaśrīḥ) - with imperishable glory; प्रायात् (prāyāt) - departed; शीघ्रं (śīghraṃ) - quickly; बलदेवेन (baladevena) - with Baladeva; सार्धम् (sārdham) - together;]
(Auspiciousness to you all, which is placed in the cave; may you all grow like fire being kindled. Let not any kings here know of you; let us go to the camp for now. He, permitted by the Pāṇḍava, with imperishable glory, departed quickly together with Baladeva.)
May auspiciousness, hidden in the cave, be with you; may you flourish like a kindled fire. Let no kings here discover you; let us go to the camp for now. He, granted leave by the Pāṇḍava and possessing imperishable glory, quickly departed together with Baladeva.
