Core-Pancharatra: Karna advises Dhritarastra to fight Pandavas militarily.
karṇa uvāca॥
Karna said.
duryodhana tava prajñā na samyagiti me matiḥ। na hyupāyena te śakyāḥ pāṇḍavāḥ kurunandana ॥1-194-1॥
Duryodhana, I believe your judgment is not correct. O delight of the Kurus, the Pāṇḍavas cannot be overcome by your strategies.
pūrvameva hi te sūkṣmairupāyairyatitāstvayā। nigrahītuṃ yadā vīra śakitā na tadā tvayā॥1-194-2॥
Indeed, previously you made efforts with subtle means; O hero, when you were not able to restrain (them), then also it was by you.
ihaiva vartamānās te samīpe tava pārthiva। ajātapakṣāḥ śiśavaḥ śakitā naiva bādhitum ॥1-194-3॥
O king, those not-yet-fledged children, being right here near you, are truly unable to cause any harm.
jātapakṣā videśasthā vivṛddhāḥ sarvaśo'dya te. nopāyasādhyāḥ kaunteyā mamaiṣā matiracyuta ॥1-194-4॥
O infallible one, my opinion is that those who have grown wings and are now in a foreign land, having fully matured, are today not attainable by any means, O son of Kunti.
na ca te vyasanair yoktuṃ śakyā diṣṭakṛtā hi te. śaṅkitāś cepsavaś caiva pitṛpaitāmahaṃ padam ॥1-194-5॥
And those people, whose actions are determined by fate, cannot be subdued by calamities. Indeed, they are both suspicious and desirous of the ancestral position.
paraspareṇa bhedaś ca nādhātuṃ teṣu śakyate। ekasyāṃ ye ratāḥ patnyāṃ na bhidyante parasparam ॥1-194-6॥
Mutual division cannot be established among them; those who are devoted to one wife are not divided from each other.
na cāpi kṛṣṇā śakyeta tebhyo bhedayituṃ paraiḥ। paridyūnānvṛtavatī kimutādya mṛjāvataḥ॥1-194-7॥
Not even Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī) could be separated from them by others; she has chosen those who are greatly distressed—what can be said now of those who are pure?
īpsitaś ca guṇaḥ strīṇām ekasyā bahubhārtṛtā। taṃ ca prāptavatī kṛṣṇā na sā bhedayituṃ sukham ॥1-194-8॥
The most desired quality among women is, for one, to have many husbands. Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī) has attained that, but she does not find it easy to divide herself among them.
āryavṛttaś ca pāñcālyo na sa rājā dhanapriyaḥ। na santyakṣyati kaunteyān rājyadānair api dhruvam॥1-194-9॥
The king, who is of noble conduct and the son of the Panchala, is not one who loves wealth. He will surely not abandon the sons of Kunti, not even for the sake of gifts of the kingdom.
tathāsya putro guṇavān anuraktaś ca pāṇḍavān। tasmān nopāya-sādhyāṃs tān ahaṃ manye kathaṃcana ॥1-194-10॥
Thus, his son is virtuous and devoted to the Pāṇḍavas; therefore, I do not think they can be overcome by any means whatsoever.
idaṃ tvadya kṣamaṃ kartumasmākaṃ puruṣarṣabha। yāvanna kṛtamūlāste pāṇḍaveyā viśāṃ pate ॥ tāvatpraharaṇīyāste rocatāṃ tava vikramaḥ ॥1-194-11॥
O bull among men, today it is proper for us to act thus by you; as long as those sons of Pandu are not rooted out, O lord of men, let your valour be shown in attacking them as long as it pleases you.
asmat-pakṣo mahān yāvad yāvat-pāñcālako laghuḥ। tāvat praharaṇaṃ teṣāṃ kriyatāṃ mā vicāraya ॥1-194-12॥
Our side is strong as long as the Pāñcāla side remains weak; therefore, strike them accordingly without hesitation or second thought.
vāhanāni prabhūtāni mitrāṇi bahulāni ca। yāvanna teṣāṃ gāndhāre tāvadevāśu vikrama ॥1-194-13॥
There are abundant vehicles and numerous friends; as long as they are not in Gandhara, quickly advance.
yāvac ca rājā pāñcālyo nodyame kurute manaḥ। saha putrair mahāvīryais tāvad evāśu vikrama ॥1-194-14॥
As long as the king, the son of Pāñcālī, does not resolve to act with his mighty sons, you may quickly advance.
yāvannāyāti vārṣṇeyaḥ karṣaṇyādavavāhinīm। rājyārthe pāṇḍaveyānāṃ tāvadevāśu vikrama ॥1-194-15॥
Until Kṛṣṇa arrives with the Yādava army, act swiftly and valiantly for the sake of the Pāṇḍavas' kingdom.
vasūni vividhānbhogān rājyam eva ca kevalam। nātyājyam asti kṛṣṇasya pāṇḍavārthe mahīpate ॥1-194-16॥
O king, for the sake of the Pāṇḍavas, Kṛṣṇa would not abandon wealth, various enjoyments, or even the kingdom itself.
vikrameṇa mahī prāptā bharatena mahātmanā। vikrameṇa ca lokāṃstrīñjitavānpākaśāsanaḥ ॥1-194-17॥
Bharata, the great-souled, gained the earth by his valor. Likewise, Indra, the lord of Pāka, conquered the three worlds by his prowess.
vikramaṃ ca praśaṃsanti kṣatriyasya viśāṃ pate। svako hi dharmaḥ śūrāṇāṃ vikramaḥ pārthivarṣabha ॥1-194-18॥
O best of kings, valour is praised as the true duty of a kṣatriya. For the brave, their own duty is indeed valour.
te balena vayaṃ rājan mahatā caturaṅgiṇā। pramathya drupadaṃ śīghram ānayāma iha pāṇḍavān ॥1-194-19॥
O king, let us, with a great fourfold army, overpower Drupada by force and quickly bring the Pāṇḍavas here.
na hi sāmnā na dānena na bhedena ca pāṇḍavāḥ। śakyāḥ sādhayituṃ tasmādvikrameṇaiva tāñjahi ॥1-194-20॥
The Pāṇḍavas cannot be subdued by conciliation, gifts, or division; therefore, conquer them only by valor.
tān vikrameṇa jitvā imām akhilām bhuṅkṣva medinīm। na anyam atra prapaśyāmi kāryopāyaṃ janādhipa ॥1-194-21॥
O lord of people, conquer all of them by your prowess and enjoy this entire earth. I do not see any other means for achieving your objective here.
vaiśampāyana uvāca॥
Vaiśampāyana said.
śrutvā tu rādheyavaco dhṛtarāṣṭraḥ pratāpavān। abhipūjya tataḥ paścāidaṃ vacanamabravīt ॥1-194-22॥
But after hearing the words of Rādheya, the glorious Dhṛtarāṣṭra, having duly honored him, then spoke these words.
upapannaṃ mahāprājñe kṛtāstre sūtanandane। tvayi vikramasampannamidaṃ vacanamīdṛśam ॥1-194-23॥
O greatly wise son of Sūta, who has mastered weapons and is endowed with valor, such words as these are appropriate in you.
bhūya eva tu bhīṣmaś ca droṇo vidura eva ca। yuvāṃ ca kurutāṃ buddhiṃ bhaved yā naḥ sukhodayā ॥1-194-24॥
But again, let Bhishma, Drona, Vidura, and you two together make a decision which may bring happiness to us.
tat ānāyya tānsarvānmantriṇaḥ sumahāyaśāḥ। dhṛtarāṣṭro mahārāja mantrayāmāsa vai tadā ॥1-194-25॥
Then the illustrious King Dhritarashtra, having summoned all his ministers, held a consultation at that time.
