tathā śailanipātena bhīṣitāḥ khāṇḍavālayāḥ। dānavā rākṣasā nāgāstarakṣvṛkṣavanaukasah ॥ dvipāḥ prabhinnāḥ śārdūlāḥ siṃhāḥ kesariṇastathā ॥1-219-1॥

(Thus, by the falling of rocks, the inhabitants of Khāṇḍava—Dānavas, Rākṣasas, Nāgas, hyenas, wolves, forest-dwellers, elephants, broken, tigers, lions, those with manes—were frightened thus.)

मृगाश्च महिषाश्चैव शतशः पक्षिणस्तथा। समुद्विग्ना विससृपुस्तथान्या भूतजातयः ॥१-२१९-२॥

[मृगाः (mṛgāḥ) - deer; च (ca) - and; महिषाः (mahiṣāḥ) - buffaloes; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; शतशः (śataśaḥ) - by the hundreds; पक्षिणः (pakṣiṇaḥ) - birds; तथा (tathā) - also; समुद्विग्नाः (samudvignāḥ) - greatly agitated; विससृपुः (visasṛpuḥ) - scattered; तथा (tathā) - also; अन्याः (anyāḥ) - other; भूतजातयः (bhūtajātyaḥ) - creature-species;]
(Deer and buffaloes indeed by the hundreds, birds also, greatly agitated, scattered; also other creature-species.)
Deer, buffaloes by the hundreds, and birds, all greatly agitated, scattered; other species of creatures also fled in fear.
तं दावं समुदीक्षन्तः कृष्णौ चाभ्युद्यतायुधौ। उत्पातनादशब्देन सन्त्रासित इवाभवन् ॥१-२१९-३॥
taṃ dāvaṃ samudīkṣantaḥ kṛṣṇau cābhyudyatāyudhau। utpātanādaśabdena santrāsita ivābhavan ॥1-219-3॥

(Looking at that forest fire, the two Krishnas, with weapons raised, became as if frightened by the ominous sound.)
The two Krishnas, seeing that forest fire and with their weapons raised, appeared to be frightened by the ominous sound.
स्वतेजोभास्वरं चक्रमुत्ससर्ज जनार्दनः। तेन ता जातयः क्षुद्राः सदानवनिशाचराः ॥ निकृत्ताः शतशः सर्वा निपेतुरनलं क्षणात् ॥१-२१९-४॥
svatejobhāsvaraṃ cakram utsasarja janārdanaḥ। tena tā jātayaḥ kṣudrāḥ sadānavaniśācarāḥ ॥ nikṛttāḥ śataśaḥ sarvā nipeturanalaṃ kṣaṇāt ॥1-219-4॥
[स्व (sva) - own; तेजः (tejaḥ) - splendor; भास्वरं (bhāsvaram) - shining; चक्रम् (cakram) - discus; उत्ससर्ज (utsasarja) - sent forth; जनार्दनः (janārdanaḥ) - Janardana; तेन (tena) - by that; ता (tā) - those; जातयः (jātayaḥ) - creatures; क्षुद्राः (kṣudrāḥ) - mean; सदा (sadā) - always; अनव (anava) - demons; निशाचराः (niśācarāḥ) - night-wanderers; निकृत्ताः (nikṛttāḥ) - cut down; शतशः (śataśaḥ) - by hundreds; सर्वा (sarvā) - all; निपेतुः (nipetuḥ) - fell; अनलम् (analam) - into fire; क्षणात् (kṣaṇāt) - in an instant;]
(Janardana sent forth his own shining discus. By that, those mean creatures, always demon night-wanderers, were cut down by hundreds, all fell into fire in an instant.)
Janardana released his radiant discus, and by it, those lowly demon night-wanderers were instantly cut down by the hundreds and all fell into the fire.
अदृश्यन्राक्षसास्तत्र कृष्णचक्रविदारिताः। वसारुधिरसम्पृक्ताः सन्ध्यायामिव तोयदाः ॥१-२१९-५॥
adṛśyanrākṣasāstatra kṛṣṇacakravidāritāḥ। vasārudhirasampṛktāḥ sandhyāyāmiva toyadāḥ ॥1-219-5॥
[अदृश्यन् (adṛśyan) - not visible; not seen; राक्षसाः (rākṣasāḥ) - rākṣasas; demons; तत्र (tatra) - there; कृष्णचक्र (kṛṣṇacakra) - black discus; (here: dark wheel, possibly referring to a weapon or mark); विदारिताः (vidāritāḥ) - torn; split; वसा (vasā) - fat; रुधिर (rudhira) - blood; सम्पृक्ताः (sampṛktāḥ) - smeared; covered; सन्ध्यायाम् (sandhyāyām) - at twilight; इव (iva) - like; as if; तोयदाः (toyadāḥ) - clouds;]
(The rākṣasas, not visible there, torn by the black discus, smeared with fat and blood, were like clouds at twilight.)
The rākṣasas, rendered invisible and torn apart by the black discus, their bodies smeared with fat and blood, looked like clouds at twilight.
पिशाचान्पक्षिणो नागान्पशूंश्चापि सहस्रशः। निघ्नंश्चरति वार्ष्णेयः कालवत्तत्र भारत ॥१-२१९-६॥
piśācānpakṣiṇo nāgānpaśūṃścāpi sahasraśaḥ। nighnaṃścarati vārṣṇeyaḥ kālavattatra bhārata ॥1-219-6॥
[पिशाचान् (piśācān) - flesh-eating spirits; पक्षिणः (pakṣiṇaḥ) - birds; नागान् (nāgān) - serpents; पशून् (paśūn) - animals; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; सहस्रशः (sahasraśaḥ) - by thousands; निघ्नन् (nighnan) - slaying; चरति (carati) - moves; वार्ष्णेयः (vārṣṇeyaḥ) - the descendant of Vṛṣṇi (i.e., Kṛṣṇa); कालवत् (kālavāt) - like Time; तत्र (tatra) - there; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata;]
(Slaying flesh-eating spirits, birds, serpents, and animals also by thousands, the descendant of Vṛṣṇi moves there like Time, O Bhārata.)
O Bhārata, there, the descendant of Vṛṣṇi (Kṛṣṇa) moves like Time, slaying by thousands the flesh-eating spirits, birds, serpents, and animals.
क्षिप्तं क्षिप्तं हि तच्चक्रं कृष्णस्यामित्रघातिनः। हत्वानेकानि सत्त्वानि पाणिमेति पुनः पुनः ॥१-२१९-७॥
kṣiptaṃ kṣiptaṃ hi tac cakraṃ kṛṣṇasya amitra-ghātinaḥ। hatvā anekāni sattvāni pāṇim eti punaḥ punaḥ॥1-219-7॥
[क्षिप्तं (kṣiptam) - hurled; thrown; क्षिप्तं (kṣiptam) - hurled; thrown; हि (hi) - indeed; surely; तत् (tat) - that; चक्रं (cakram) - discus; wheel; कृष्णस्य (kṛṣṇasya) - of Kṛṣṇa; अमित्रघातिनः (amitra-ghātinaḥ) - destroyer of enemies; हत्वा (hatvā) - having slain; अनेकानि (anekāni) - many; सत्त्वानि (sattvāni) - beings; पाणिम् (pāṇim) - hand; एति (eti) - reaches; goes; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; पुनः (punaḥ) - again;]
(Hurled, hurled indeed that discus of Kṛṣṇa, destroyer of enemies, having slain many beings, reaches the hand again and again.)
That discus of Kṛṣṇa, the destroyer of enemies, when hurled again and again, after slaying many beings, returns to his hand repeatedly.
तथा तु निघ्नतस्तस्य सर्वसत्त्वानि भारत। बभूव रूपमत्युग्रं सर्वभूतात्मनस्तदा ॥१-२१९-८॥
tathā tu nighnatas tasya sarvasattvāni bhārata। babhūva rūpam atyugraṃ sarvabhūtātmanas tadā ॥1-219-8॥
[तथा (tathā) - in that manner; तु (tu) - but; निघ्नतः (nighnataḥ) - while striking; तस्य (tasya) - of him; सर्वसत्त्वानि (sarvasattvāni) - all beings; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata; बभूव (babhūva) - became; रूपम् (rūpam) - form; अत्युग्रं (atyugram) - very fierce; सर्वभूतात्मनः (sarvabhūtātmanaḥ) - of the soul of all beings; तदा (tadā) - then;]
(In that manner but while striking of him all beings O Bhārata became form very fierce of the soul of all beings then.)
O Bhārata, in that manner, while he was striking all beings, then the form of the soul of all beings became very fierce.
समेतानां च देवानां दानवानां च सर्वशः। विजेता नाभवत्कश्चित्कृष्णपाण्डवयोर्मृधे ॥१-२१९-९॥
sametānāṃ ca devānāṃ dānavānāṃ ca sarvaśaḥ। vijetā nābhavatkaścitkṛṣṇapāṇḍavayormṛdhe ॥1-219-9॥
[समेतानाम् (sametānām) - of those assembled; च (ca) - and; देवानाम् (devānām) - of the gods; दानवानाम् (dānavānām) - of the demons; च (ca) - and; सर्वशः (sarvaśaḥ) - entirely; विजेता (vijetā) - conqueror; न (na) - not; अभवत् (abhavat) - became; कश्चित् (kaścit) - anyone; कृष्णपाण्डवयोः (kṛṣṇapāṇḍavayoḥ) - of Kṛṣṇa and Pāṇḍava; मृधे (mṛdhe) - in battle;]
(Of those assembled and of the gods and of the demons entirely, not anyone became conqueror in the battle of Kṛṣṇa and Pāṇḍava.)
Among all those assembled, whether gods or demons, no one became the victor in the battle between Kṛṣṇa and the Pāṇḍava.
तयोर्बलात्परित्रातुं तं दावं तु यदा सुराः। नाशक्नुवञ्शमयितुं तदाभूवन्पराङ्मुखाः ॥१-२१९-१०॥
tayor-balāt-paritrātuṃ taṃ dāvaṃ tu yadā surāḥ। nāśaknuvan-śamayituṃ tadābhūvan-parāṅmukhāḥ ॥1-219-10॥
[तयोः (tayoh) - of those two; बलात् (balāt) - by force; परित्रातुम् (paritrātum) - to save; तं (taṃ) - that; दावम् (dāvam) - forest fire; तु (tu) - but; यदा (yadā) - when; सुराः (surāḥ) - the gods; न (na) - not; अशक्नुवन् (aśaknuvan) - were able; शमयितुम् (śamayitum) - to extinguish; तदा (tadā) - then; अभूवन् (abhūvan) - became; पराङ्मुखाः (parāṅmukhāḥ) - turned away;]
(Of those two, by force, to save that forest fire, but when the gods were not able to extinguish (it), then they became turned away.)
But when the gods were unable to extinguish that forest fire by force to save the two, they turned away.
शतक्रतुश्च सम्प्रेक्ष्य विमुखान्देवतागणान्। बभूवावस्थितः प्रीतः प्रशंसन्कृष्णपाण्डवौ ॥१-२१९-११॥
śatakratuś ca samprekṣya vimukhān devatā-gaṇān। babhūvāvasthitaḥ prītaḥ praśaṁsan kṛṣṇa-pāṇḍavau ॥1-219-11॥
[शतक्रतुः (śatakratuḥ) - Indra; च (ca) - and; सम्प्रेक्ष्य (samprekṣya) - having observed; विमुखान् (vimukhān) - turned away; देवतागणान् (devatā-gaṇān) - groups of gods; बभूव (babhūva) - became; आवस्थितः (avasthitaḥ) - standing; प्रीतः (prītaḥ) - pleased; प्रशंसन् (praśaṁsan) - praising; कृष्णपाण्डवौ (kṛṣṇa-pāṇḍavau) - Kṛṣṇa and Pāṇḍava (Arjuna);]
(Indra, and having observed the groups of gods turned away, became standing, pleased, praising Kṛṣṇa and Pāṇḍava (Arjuna).)
Indra, seeing that the groups of gods had turned away, stood there pleased, praising Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna.
निवृत्तेषु तु देवेषु वागुवाचाशरीरिणी। शतक्रतुमभिप्रेक्ष्य महागम्भीरनिःस्वना ॥१-२१९-१२॥
nivṛtteṣu tu deveṣu vāguvāca-aśarīriṇī। śatakratum-abhiprekṣya mahā-gambhīra-niḥsvanā ॥1-219-12॥
[निवृत्तेषु (nivṛtteṣu) - having withdrawn; तु (tu) - but; देवेषु (deveṣu) - in the gods; वाक् (vāk) - speech; उवाच (uvāca) - spoke; अशरीरिणी (aśarīriṇī) - bodiless; शतक्रतुम् (śatakratum) - Indra; अभिप्रेक्ष्य (abhiprekṣya) - having looked at; महागम्भीरनिःस्वना (mahā-gambhīra-niḥsvanā) - with a great deep sound;]
(But when the gods had withdrawn, speech, bodiless, spoke, having looked at Indra, with a great deep sound.)
But when the gods had withdrawn, the bodiless voice, having looked at Indra, spoke with a great and deep sound.
न ते सखा संनिहितस्तक्षकः पन्नगोत्तमः। दाहकाले खाण्डवस्य कुरुक्षेत्रं गतो ह्यसौ ॥१-२१९-१३॥
na te sakhā saṃnihitastakṣakaḥ pannagottamaḥ। dāhakāle khāṇḍavasya kurukṣetraṃ gato hyasau ॥1-219-13॥
[न (na) - not; ते (te) - your; सखा (sakhā) - friend; संनिहितः (saṃnihitaḥ) - present; तक्षकः (takṣakaḥ) - Takshaka (name of a serpent); पन्नग-उत्तमः (pannaga-uttamaḥ) - best among serpents; दाह-काले (dāha-kāle) - at the time of burning; खाण्डवस्य (khāṇḍavasya) - of Khāṇḍava (forest); कुरुक्षेत्रम् (kurukṣetram) - Kurukshetra; गतः (gataḥ) - gone; हि (hi) - indeed; असौ (asau) - he;]
(Not your friend, the present Takshaka, best among serpents; at the time of burning of Khāṇḍava, he indeed had gone to Kurukshetra.)
Your friend Takshaka, the foremost of serpents, was not present; at the time of the burning of Khāṇḍava, he had gone to Kurukshetra.
न च शक्यौ त्वया जेतुं युद्धेऽस्मिन्समवस्थितौ। वासुदेवार्जुनौ शक्र निबोधेदं वचो मम ॥१-२१९-१४॥
na ca śakyau tvayā jetuṃ yuddhe'smin samavasthitau। vāsudevārjunau śakra nibodhedaṃ vaco mama ॥1-219-14॥
[न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; शक्यौ (śakyau) - able (dual); त्वया (tvayā) - by you; जेतुम् (jetum) - to conquer; युद्धे (yuddhe) - in battle; अस्मिन् (asmin) - in this; समवस्थितौ (samavasthitau) - standing together (dual); वासुदेव-अर्जुनौ (vāsudeva-arjunau) - Vasudeva and Arjuna (dual); शक्र (śakra) - O Śakra; निबोध (nibodha) - know; इदं (idaṃ) - this; वचः (vacaḥ) - speech; मम (mama) - of mine;]
(And not able by you to conquer in this battle, standing together, Vasudeva and Arjuna, O Śakra, know this speech of mine.)
O Śakra, know this: Vasudeva and Arjuna, standing together in this battle, cannot be conquered by you. This is my statement.
नरनारायणौ देवौ तावेतौ विश्रुतौ दिवि। भवानप्यभिजानाति यद्वीर्यौ यत्पराक्रमौ ॥१-२१९-१५॥
naranārāyaṇau devau tāvetau viśrutau divi। bhavānapyabhijānāti yad-vīryau yat-parākramau ॥1-219-15॥
[नर (nara) - man; नारायणौ (nārāyaṇau) - Nārāyaṇa (the divine being); देवौ (devau) - the two gods; तौ (tau) - those two; एतौ (etau) - these two; विश्रुतौ (viśrutau) - renowned; दिवि (divi) - in heaven; भवान् (bhavān) - you (honorific); अपि (api) - also; अभिजानाति (abhijānāti) - know; यत् (yat) - whose; वीर्यौ (vīryau) - powers; यत् (yat) - whose; पराक्रमौ (parākramau) - valors;]
(Nara and Nārāyaṇa, the two gods, these two renowned in heaven; you also know whose powers, whose valors.)
Nara and Nārāyaṇa are the two gods, these two are renowned in heaven; you too know their powers and valors.
नैतौ शक्यौ दुराधर्षौ विजेतुमजितौ युधि। अपि सर्वेषु लोकेषु पुराणावृषिसत्तमौ ॥१-२१९-१६॥
naitau śakyau durādharṣau vijetum ajitau yudhi। api sarveṣu lokeṣu purāṇau ṛṣisattamau ॥1-219-16॥
[न (na) - not; एतौ (etau) - these two; शक्यौ (śakyau) - possible (to be); दुराधर्षौ (durādharṣau) - difficult to overpower; विजेतुम् (vijetum) - to conquer; अजितौ (ajitau) - unconquered; युधि (yudhi) - in battle; अपि (api) - even; सर्वेषु (sarveṣu) - in all; लोकेषु (lokeṣu) - worlds; पुराणौ (purāṇau) - ancient; ऋषिसत्तमौ (ṛṣisattamau) - the best among sages;]
(Not these two are possible (to be) difficult to overpower to conquer unconquered in battle; even in all worlds ancient the best among sages.)
These two, ancient and foremost among sages, are unconquerable and difficult to overpower in battle, not even in all the worlds.
पूजनीयतमावेतावपि सर्वैः सुरासुरैः। सयक्षरक्षोगन्धर्वनरकिंनरपन्नगैः ॥१-२१९-१७॥
pūjanīyatamāvetāvapi sarvaiḥ surāsuraiḥ। sayakṣarakṣogandharvanarakiṁnarapannagaiḥ ॥1-219-17॥
[पूजनीयतमौ (pūjanīyatamau) - most worthy of worship; (dual, two) एतौ (etau) - these two; अपि (api) - also; सर्वैः (sarvaiḥ) - by all; सुरासुरैः (surāsuraiḥ) - by gods and asuras; स (sa) - with; यक्ष (yakṣa) - yakṣas; रक्षः (rakṣaḥ) - rākṣasas; गन्धर्व (gandharva) - gandharvas; नर (nara) - men; किंनर (kiṁnara) - kiṁnaras; पन्नगैः (pannagaiḥ) - by serpents;]
(These two, most worthy of worship, also by all gods and asuras, with yakṣas, rākṣasas, gandharvas, men, kiṁnaras, and serpents.)
These two are most worthy of worship by all—gods, asuras, yakṣas, rākṣasas, gandharvas, humans, kiṁnaras, and serpents alike.
तस्मादितः सुरैः सार्धं गन्तुमर्हसि वासव। दिष्टं चाप्यनुपश्यैतत्खाण्डवस्य विनाशनम् ॥१-२१९-१८॥
tasmāditaḥ suraiḥ sārdhaṃ gantum arhasi vāsava। diṣṭaṃ cāpy anupaśyaitat khāṇḍavasya vināśanam ॥1-219-18॥
[तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; इतः (itaḥ) - from here; सुरैः (suraiḥ) - with the gods; सार्धं (sārdham) - together; गन्तुम् (gantum) - to go; अर्हसि (arhasi) - you ought; वासव (vāsava) - O Indra; दिष्टं (diṣṭam) - ordained; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; अनुपश्य (anupaśya) - behold; एतत् (etat) - this; खाण्डवस्य (khāṇḍavasya) - of Khāṇḍava; विनाशनम् (vināśanam) - destruction;]
(Therefore, from here, together with the gods, you ought to go, O Indra. And also behold this ordained destruction of Khāṇḍava.)
Therefore, O Indra, you should go from here together with the gods. Also, see this destruction of Khāṇḍava as ordained.
इति वाचमभिश्रुत्य तथ्यमित्यमरेश्वरः। कोपामर्षौ समुत्सृज्य सम्प्रतस्थे दिवं तदा ॥१-२१९-१९॥
iti vācam abhiśrutya tathyam iti amareśvaraḥ। kopāmarṣau samutsṛjya sampratasthe divaṃ tadā ॥1-219-19॥
[इति (iti) - thus; वाचम् (vācam) - speech; अभिश्रुत्य (abhiśrutya) - having heard; तथ्यम् (tathyam) - true; इति (iti) - thus; अमरेश्वरः (amareśvaraḥ) - lord of the immortals; कोपामर्षौ (kopāmarṣau) - anger and indignation; समुत्सृज्य (samutsṛjya) - having abandoned; सम्प्रतस्थे (sampratasthe) - set forth; दिवम् (divam) - to heaven; तदा (tadā) - then;]
(Thus, having heard the speech, 'It is true,' the lord of the immortals, having abandoned anger and indignation, then set forth to heaven.)
Having heard these words, 'It is true,' the lord of the immortals let go of his anger and indignation and then departed for heaven.
तं प्रस्थितं महात्मानं समवेक्ष्य दिवौकसः। त्वरिताः सहिता राजन्ननुजग्मुः शतक्रतुम् ॥१-२१९-२०॥
taṃ prasthitaṃ mahātmānaṃ samavekṣya divaukasaḥ। tvaritāḥ sahitā rājannanujagmuḥ śatakratum ॥1-219-20॥
[तं (taṃ) - him; प्रस्थितं (prasthitam) - departed; महात्मानं (mahātmānam) - great-souled; समवेक्ष्य (samavekṣya) - having observed; दिवौकसः (divaukasaḥ) - the dwellers of heaven; त्वरिताः (tvaritāḥ) - swift; सहिताः (sahitāḥ) - together; राजन् (rājan) - O king; अनुजग्मुः (anujagmuḥ) - followed; शतक्रतुम् (śatakratum) - Indra;]
(Him departed, the great-souled, having observed, the dwellers of heaven, swift, together, O king, followed Indra.)
O king, seeing the great-souled one depart, the swift dwellers of heaven together followed Indra.

O king, after the king of the gods departed, Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna, delighted and fearless, once again set the forest ablaze.
स मारुत इवाभ्राणि नाशयित्वार्जुनः सुरान्। व्यधमच्छरसम्पातैः प्राणिनः खाण्डवालयान् ॥१-२१९-२३॥
sa māruta ivābhrāṇi nāśayitvārjunaḥ surān। vyadhamaccharasampātaiḥ prāṇinaḥ khāṇḍavālayān ॥1-219-23॥

न च स्म किञ्चिच्छक्नोति भूतं निश्चरितुं ततः। सञ्छिद्यमानमिषुभिरस्यता सव्यसाचिना ॥१-२१९-२४॥
na ca sma kiñcicchaknoti bhūtaṃ niścarituṃ tataḥ। sañchidyamānam iṣubhir asyata savyasācinā ॥1-219-24॥

नाशकंस्तत्र भूतानि महान्त्यपि रणेऽर्जुनम्। निरीक्षितुममोघेषुं करिष्यन्ति कुतो रणम् ॥१-२१९-२५॥
nāśakaṃs tatra bhūtāni mahānty api raṇe'rjunam। nirīkṣitum amogheṣuṃ kariṣyanti kuto raṇam॥1-219-25॥

Even the greatest beings there, O Arjuna, will only attempt to behold you, the destroyer, armed with unfailing arrows in battle; how then could they possibly fight?
शतेनैकं च विव्याध शतं चैकेन पत्रिणा। व्यसवस्तेऽपतन्नग्नौ साक्षात्कालहता इव ॥१-२१९-२६॥
śatenaikaṃ ca vivyādha śataṃ caikena patriṇā। vyasavaste'patannagnau sākṣātkālahatā iva ॥1-219-26॥

(Not indeed Arjuna mighty-armed, nor even Kṛṣṇa mighty in strength, to behold indeed is able anyone, to fight how again.)
Indeed, no one is able to even look upon mighty-armed Arjuna or mighty Kṛṣṇa, so how could anyone fight them again?
एकायनगता येऽपि निष्पतन्त्यत्र केचन। राक्षसान्दानवान्नागाञ्जघ्ने चक्रेण तान्हरिः ॥१-२१९-३०॥
ekāyanagatā ye'pi niṣpatantyatra kecana। rākṣasāndānavānnāgāñjaghne cakreṇa tānhariḥ ॥1-219-30॥

अथासुरं मयं नाम तक्षकस्य निवेशनात्। विप्रद्रवन्तं सहसा ददर्श मधुसूदनः ॥१-२१९-३५॥
athāsuraṃ mayaṃ nāma takṣakasya niveśanāt। vipradravantaṃ sahasā dadarśa madhusūdanaḥ ॥1-219-35॥

तमग्निः प्रार्थयामास दिधक्षुर्वातसारथिः। देहवान्वै जटी भूत्वा नदंश्च जलदो यथा ॥ जिघांसुर्वासुदेवश्च चक्रमुद्यम्य विष्ठितः ॥१-२१९-३६॥

(Having heard his fearful sound, Dhanañjaya said to Maya, "Do not fear," as if reviving him, O Bhārata.)

तं पार्थेनाभये दत्ते नमुचेर्भ्रातरं मयम्। न हन्तुमैच्छद्दाशार्हः पावको न ददाह च ॥१-२१९-३९॥
taṃ pārthenābhaye datte namucer bhrātaraṃ mayam। na hantum aicchad dāśārhaḥ pāvako na dadāha ca ॥1-219-39॥

When Maya, the brother of Namuci, was given safety by Pārtha, Krishna did not wish to kill him, and the fire did not burn him either.
तस्मिन्वने दह्यमाने षडग्निर्न ददाह च। अश्वसेनं मयं चापि चतुरः शार्ङ्गकानिति ॥१-२१९-४०॥
tasmin vane dahyamāne ṣaḍagnir na dadāha ca। aśvasenaṃ mayaṃ cāpi caturaḥ śārṅgakān iti ॥1-219-40॥
