Pancharatra: Maya built a magnificent Palace and gave it to Pandavas.

Vaiśampāyana said.
अथाब्रवीन्मयः पार्थमर्जुनं जयतां वरम्। आपृच्छे त्वां गमिष्यामि क्षिप्रमेष्यामि चाप्यहम् ॥२-३-१॥
athābravīn mayaḥ pārtham arjunaṃ jayatāṃ varam। āpṛcche tvāṃ gamiṣyāmi kṣipram eṣyāmi cāpy aham ॥2-3-1॥

(Then Maya said to Pārtha, Arjuna, the best of the victorious: I take leave of you, I shall go, I shall also return quickly.)
Then Maya said to Pārtha, Arjuna, the best among the victorious: "I take leave of you; I shall go and will return quickly." (2-3-1)
उत्तरेण तु कैलासं मैनाकं पर्वतं प्रति। यक्ष्यमाणेषु सर्वेषु दानवेषु तदा मया ॥ कृतं मणिमयं भाण्डं रम्यं बिन्दुसरः प्रति ॥२-३-२॥
uttareṇa tu kailāsaṃ mainākaṃ parvataṃ prati। yakṣyamāṇeṣu sarveṣu dānaveṣu tadā mayā ॥ kṛtaṃ maṇimayaṃ bhāṇḍaṃ ramyaṃ bindusaraḥ prati ॥2-3-2॥
[उत्तरेण (uttareṇa) - by the north; तु (tu) - but; कैलासं (kailāsaṃ) - Kailāsa; मैनाकं (mainākaṃ) - Maināka; पर्वतं (parvataṃ) - mountain; प्रति (prati) - towards; यक्ष्यमाणेषु (yakṣyamāṇeṣu) - when sacrifices were being performed; सर्वेषु (sarveṣu) - by all; दानवेषु (dānaveṣu) - by the Dānavas; तदा (tadā) - then; मया (mayā) - by me; कृतं (kṛtaṃ) - made; मणिमयं (maṇimayaṃ) - jewel-made; भाण्डं (bhāṇḍaṃ) - vessel; रम्यं (ramyaṃ) - beautiful; बिन्दुसरः (bindusaraḥ) - Bindusaras; प्रति (prati) - towards;]
(By the north, but towards Kailāsa and Maināka mountain; when sacrifices were being performed by all the Dānavas, then by me a jewel-made beautiful vessel was made towards Bindusaras.)
To the north, towards Kailāsa and Maināka mountains, when all the Dānavas were performing sacrifices, I then made a beautiful vessel of jewels for Bindusaras. (2-3-2)
सभायां सत्यसन्धस्य यदासीद्वृषपर्वणः। आगमिष्यामि तद्गृह्य यदि तिष्ठति भारत ॥२-३-३॥
sabhāyāṃ satyasaṃdhasya yad āsīd vṛṣaparvaṇaḥ। āgamiṣyāmi tad gṛhya yadi tiṣṭhati bhārata ॥2-3-3॥
[सभायाम् (sabhāyām) - in the assembly; सत्यसन्धस्य (satyasaṃdhasya) - of the truth-abiding one; यत् (yat) - which; आसीत् (āsīt) - was; वृषपर्वणः (vṛṣaparvaṇaḥ) - of Vṛṣaparvan; आगमिष्यामि (āgamiṣyāmi) - I shall come; तत् (tat) - that; गृह्य (gṛhya) - having taken; यदि (yadi) - if; तिष्ठति (tiṣṭhati) - remains; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata;]
(In the assembly of the truth-abiding one, whatever was of Vṛṣaparvan, I shall come, having taken that, if it remains, O Bhārata.)
O Bhārata, in the assembly of the truth-abiding one, whatever belonged to Vṛṣaparvan, if it still remains, I will come and take it. (2-3-3)
ततः सभां करिष्यामि पाण्डवाय यशस्विने। मनःप्रह्लादिनीं चित्रां सर्वरत्नविभूषिताम् ॥२-३-४॥
tataḥ sabhāṃ kariṣyāmi pāṇḍavāya yaśasvine। manaḥprahlādinīṃ citrāṃ sarvaratnavibhūṣitām ॥2-3-4॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; सभाम् (sabhām) - assembly; करिष्यामि (kariṣyāmi) - I will make; पाण्डवाय (pāṇḍavāya) - for Pāṇḍava; यशस्विने (yaśasvine) - to the illustrious; मनःप्रह्लादिनीम् (manaḥprahlādinīm) - delighting the mind; चित्राम् (citrām) - wonderful; सर्वरत्नविभूषिताम् (sarvaratnavibhūṣitām) - adorned with all jewels;]
(Then I will make an assembly for Pāṇḍava, the illustrious one, wonderful, delighting the mind, adorned with all jewels.)
Then I shall construct a magnificent assembly hall for the illustrious Pāṇḍava, one that delights the mind and is adorned with every kind of jewel. (2-3-4)
अस्ति बिन्दुसरस्येव गदा श्रेष्ठा कुरूद्वह। निहिता यौवनाश्वेन राज्ञा हत्वा रणे रिपून् ॥ सुवर्णबिन्दुभिश्चित्रा गुर्वी भारसहा दृढा ॥२-३-५॥
asti bindusarasy-eva gadā śreṣṭhā kurūdvaha। nihitā yauvanāśvena rājñā hatvā raṇe ripūn ॥ suvarṇabindubhiś citrā gurvī bhārasahā dṛḍhā ॥2-3-5॥
[अस्ति (asti) - there is; बिन्दुसरस्य (bindusarasya) - of Bindusaras (the lake); इव (iva) - like; गदा (gadā) - mace; श्रेष्ठा (śreṣṭhā) - excellent; कुरूद्वह (kurūdvaha) - O best of Kurus; निहिता (nihitā) - deposited; यौवनाश्वेन (yauvanāśvena) - by Yauvanāśva; राज्ञा (rājñā) - by the king; हत्वा (hatvā) - having slain; रणे (raṇe) - in battle; रिपून् (ripūn) - enemies; सुवर्णबिन्दुभिः (suvarṇabindubhiḥ) - with golden drops; चित्रा (citrā) - adorned; गुर्वी (gurvī) - heavy; भारसहा (bhārasahā) - bearing weight; दृढा (dṛḍhā) - firm;]
(There is, O best of Kurus, an excellent mace like (that) of Bindusaras, deposited by King Yauvanāśva after having slain enemies in battle, adorned with golden drops, heavy, weight-bearing, and firm.)
O best of Kurus, there is an excellent mace, like that of Bindusaras, which was deposited by King Yauvanāśva after he had slain his enemies in battle. It is adorned with golden drops, heavy, able to bear weight, and firm. (2-3-5)
सा वै शतसहस्रस्य संमिता सर्वघातिनी। अनुरूपा च भीमस्य गाण्डीवं भवतो यथा ॥२-३-६॥
sā vai śatasahasrasya saṃmitā sarvaghātinī। anurūpā ca bhīmasya gāṇḍīvaṃ bhavato yathā ॥2-3-6॥
[सा (sā) - she; वै (vai) - indeed; शतसहस्रस्य (śatasahasrasya) - of a hundred thousand; संमिता (saṃmitā) - measured; सर्वघातिनी (sarvaghātinī) - destroyer of all; अनुरूपा (anurūpā) - suitable; च (ca) - and; भीमस्य (bhīmasya) - of Bhīma; गाण्डीवं (gāṇḍīvaṃ) - Gāṇḍīva bow; भवतो (bhavato) - of you; यथा (yathā) - just as;]
(She indeed, measured of a hundred thousand, destroyer of all; suitable and of Bhīma, Gāṇḍīva bow of you just as.)
She, indeed, who is measured as a hundred thousand and is the destroyer of all, is as suitable to Bhīma as the Gāṇḍīva bow is to you. (2-3-6)
वारुणश्च महाशङ्खो देवदत्तः सुघोषवान्। सर्वमेतत्प्रदास्यामि भवते नात्र संशयः ॥ इत्युक्त्वा सोऽसुरः पार्थं प्रागुदीचीमगाद्दिशम् ॥२-३-७॥
vāruṇaś ca mahāśaṅkho devadattaḥ sughoṣavān। sarvam etat pradāsyāmi bhavate nātra saṃśayaḥ ॥ ity uktvā so'suraḥ pārthaṃ prāgudīcīm agād diśam ॥2-3-7॥
[वारुणः (vāruṇaḥ) - of Varuṇa; च (ca) - and; महाशङ्खः (mahāśaṅkhaḥ) - great conch; देवदत्तः (devadattaḥ) - Devadatta; सुघोषवान् (sughoṣavān) - having a beautiful sound; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; एतत् (etat) - this; प्रदास्यामि (pradāsyāmi) - I shall give; भवते (bhavate) - to you; न (na) - not; अत्र (atra) - here; संशयः (saṃśayaḥ) - doubt; इति (iti) - thus; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having spoken; सः (saḥ) - he; असुरः (asuraḥ) - the demon; पार्थम् (pārtham) - to Pārtha (Arjuna); प्रागुदीचीम् (prāgudīcīm) - northeast; अगात् (agāt) - went; दिशम् (diśam) - direction;]
(Of Varuṇa and the great conch Devadatta, having a beautiful sound, all this I shall give to you; here is no doubt. Thus having spoken, that demon went to the northeast direction to Pārtha. (2-3-7))
"Of Varuṇa and the great conch Devadatta, which has a beautiful sound, I shall give all this to you; there is no doubt about it." Having said this, the demon went to the northeast direction towards Pārtha. (2-3-7)
उत्तरेण तु कैलासं मैनाकं पर्वतं प्रति। हिरण्यशृङ्गो भगवान्महामणिमयो गिरिः ॥२-३-८॥
uttareṇa tu kailāsaṃ mainākaṃ parvataṃ prati। hiraṇyaśṛṅgo bhagavān mahāmaṇimayo giriḥ ॥2-3-8॥
[उत्तरेण (uttareṇa) - to the north; तु (tu) - but; कैलासं (kailāsaṃ) - Kailāsa; मैनाकं (mainākaṃ) - Maināka; पर्वतं (parvataṃ) - mountain; प्रति (prati) - towards; हिरण्यशृङ्गः (hiraṇyaśṛṅgaḥ) - golden-peaked; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the venerable; महामणिमयः (mahāmaṇimayaḥ) - composed of great jewels; गिरिः (giriḥ) - mountain;]
(To the north, but towards Kailāsa and Maināka mountain, the golden-peaked, venerable, great jewel-composed mountain (stands).)
To the north, beyond Kailāsa and Maināka mountain, stands the venerable mountain Hiraṇyaśṛṅga, composed of great jewels and crowned with golden peaks. (2-3-8)
रम्यं बिन्दुसरो नाम यत्र राजा भगीरथः। दृष्ट्वा भागीरथीं गङ्गामुवास बहुलाः समाः ॥२-३-९॥
ramyaṃ bindusaro nāma yatra rājā bhagīrathaḥ। dṛṣṭvā bhāgīrathīṃ gaṅgāmuvāsa bahulāḥ samāḥ ॥2-3-9॥
[रम्यं (ramyaṃ) - beautiful; pleasant; बिन्दुसरः (bindusaraḥ) - Bindu Lake; नाम (nāma) - named; called; यत्र (yatra) - where; राजा (rājā) - king; भगीरथः (bhagīrathaḥ) - Bhagīratha; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; भागीरथीं (bhāgīrathīṃ) - Bhāgīrathī (Ganga); गङ्गाम् (gaṅgām) - Ganga; उवास (uvāsa) - dwelt; stayed; बहुलाः (bahulāḥ) - many; समाः (samāḥ) - years;]
(The beautiful Bindu Lake named, where King Bhagīratha, having seen the Bhāgīrathī Ganga, dwelt for many years.)
At the beautiful lake called Bindu, King Bhagīratha, after seeing the Bhāgīrathī Ganga, stayed there for many years. (2-3-9)
यत्रेष्ट्वा सर्वभूतानामीश्वरेण महात्मना। आहृताः क्रतवो मुख्याः शतं भरतसत्तम ॥२-३-१०॥
yatreṣṭvā sarvabhūtānām īśvareṇa mahātmanā। āhṛtāḥ kratavo mukhyāḥ śataṃ bharatasattama ॥2-3-10॥
[यत्र (yatra) - where; इष्ट्वा (iṣṭvā) - having worshipped; सर्वभूतानाम् (sarvabhūtānām) - of all beings; ईश्वरेण (īśvareṇa) - by the lord; महात्मना (mahātmanā) - by the great-souled one; आहृताः (āhṛtāḥ) - have been offered; क्रतवः (kratavaḥ) - sacrifices; मुख्याः (mukhyāḥ) - principal; शतम् (śatam) - a hundred; भरतसत्तम (bharatasattama) - O best of the Bharatas;]
(Where, having worshipped the lord, the great-souled one, a hundred principal sacrifices of all beings have been offered, O best of the Bharatas.)

यत्र यूपा मणिमयाश्चित्याश्चापि हिरण्मयाः। शोभार्थं विहितास्तत्र न तु दृष्टान्ततः कृताः ॥२-३-११॥
yatra yūpā maṇimayāś cityāś cāpi hiraṇmayāḥ। śobhārthaṃ vihitās tatra na tu dṛṣṭāntataḥ kṛtāḥ॥2-3-11॥
[यत्र (yatra) - where; यूपाः (yūpāḥ) - sacrificial posts; मणिमयाः (maṇimayāḥ) - made of jewels; च (ca) - and; इत्याः (cityāḥ) - altars; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; हिरण्मयाः (hiraṇmayāḥ) - made of gold; शोभार्थम् (śobhārtham) - for the sake of beauty; विहिताः (vihitāḥ) - arranged; तत्र (tatra) - there; न (na) - not; तु (tu) - but; दृष्टान्ततः (dṛṣṭāntataḥ) - as an example; कृताः (kṛtāḥ) - made;]

यत्रेष्ट्वा स गतः सिद्धिं सहस्राक्षः शचीपतिः। यत्र भूतपतिः सृष्ट्वा सर्वलोकान्सनातनः ॥ उपास्यते तिग्मतेजा वृतो भूतैः सहस्रशः ॥२-३-१२॥
yatreṣṭvā sa gataḥ siddhiṃ sahasrākṣaḥ śacīpatiḥ। yatra bhūtapatiḥ sṛṣṭvā sarvalokān sanātanaḥ ॥ upāsyate tigmatejā vṛto bhūtaiḥ sahasraśaḥ ॥2-3-12॥
[यत्र (yatra) - where; इष्ट्वा (iṣṭvā) - having worshipped; सः (saḥ) - he; गतः (gataḥ) - went; सिद्धिं (siddhiṃ) - success; सहस्राक्षः (sahasrākṣaḥ) - the thousand-eyed (Indra); शचीपतिः (śacīpatiḥ) - the lord of Śacī (Indra); यत्र (yatra) - where; भूतपतिः (bhūtapatiḥ) - the lord of beings (Śiva); सृष्ट्वा (sṛṣṭvā) - having created; सर्वलोकान् (sarvalokān) - all worlds; सनातनः (sanātanaḥ) - the eternal one; उपास्यते (upāsyate) - is worshipped; तिग्मतेजा (tigmatejā) - of sharp radiance; वृतः (vṛtaḥ) - surrounded; भूतैः (bhūtaiḥ) - by beings; सहस्रशः (sahasraśaḥ) - by thousands;]
(Where, having worshipped, he went to success, the thousand-eyed, the lord of Śacī (Indra); where the lord of beings (Śiva), having created all worlds, the eternal one, is worshipped, of sharp radiance, surrounded by beings by thousands.)

नरनारायणौ ब्रह्मा यमः स्थाणुश्च पञ्चमः। उपासते यत्र सत्रं सहस्रयुगपर्यये ॥२-३-१३॥
naranārāyaṇau brahmā yamaḥ sthāṇuśca pañcamaḥ। upāsate yatra satraṃ sahasrayugaparyaye ॥2-3-13॥
[नरनारायणौ (naranārāyaṇau) - Nara and Nārāyaṇa; (dual) ब्रह्मा (brahmā) - Brahmā; (the creator) यमः (yamaḥ) - Yama; (the god of death) स्थाणुः (sthāṇuḥ) - Sthāṇu; (epithet of Śiva) च (ca) - and; पञ्चमः (pañcamaḥ) - the fifth; उपासते (upāsate) - worship; (they worship) यत्र (yatra) - where; सत्रम् (satram) - sacrifice; (ritual) सहस्रयुगपर्यये (sahasrayugaparyaye) - at the end of a thousand yugas;]
(Nara and Nārāyaṇa, Brahmā, Yama, Sthāṇu and the fifth, worship where the sacrifice (is), at the end of a thousand yugas.)

यत्रेष्टं वासुदेवेन सत्रैर्वर्षसहस्रकैः। श्रद्दधानेन सततं शिष्टसम्प्रतिपत्तये ॥२-३-१४॥
yatreṣṭaṃ vāsudevena satrair varṣasahasrakaiḥ। śraddadhānena satataṃ śiṣṭasampratipattaye ॥2-3-14॥
[यत्र (yatra) - where; इष्टं (iṣṭam) - sacrificed; offered; वासुदेवेन (vāsudevena) - by Vāsudeva; सत्रैः (satraiḥ) - by sacrificial sessions; वर्षसहस्रकैः (varṣasahasrakaiḥ) - with thousands of years; श्रद्दधानेन (śraddadhānena) - by one endowed with faith; सततं (satatam) - always; continually; शिष्टसम्प्रतिपत्तये (śiṣṭasampratipattaye) - for the attainment of the conduct of the wise;]
(Where sacrifice was offered by Vāsudeva with sacrificial sessions lasting thousands of years, by one endowed with faith, always, for the attainment of the conduct of the wise.)

सुवर्णमालिनो यूपाश्चित्याश्चाप्यतिभास्वराः। ददौ यत्र सहस्राणि प्रयुतानि च केशवः ॥२-३-१५॥
suvarṇamālino yūpāścityāścāpyatibhāsvarāḥ। dadau yatra sahasrāṇi prayutāni ca keśavaḥ ॥2-3-15॥
[सुवर्ण (suvarṇa) - gold; मालिनः (mālinaḥ) - garlanded; यूपाः (yūpāḥ) - sacrificial posts; च (ca) - and; इत्याः (ityāḥ) - such; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; अति (ati) - very; भास्वराः (bhāsvarāḥ) - shining; ददौ (dadau) - gave; यत्र (yatra) - where; सहस्राणि (sahasrāṇi) - thousands; प्रयुतानि (prayutāni) - tens of millions; च (ca) - and; केशवः (keśavaḥ) - Keśava (Kṛṣṇa);]
(Where Keśava gave thousands and tens of millions of sacrificial posts garlanded with gold and such, also very shining.)
Keśava gave thousands and tens of millions of sacrificial posts adorned with golden garlands, all of which were exceedingly radiant. (2-3-15)
तत्र गत्वा स जग्राह गदां शङ्खं च भारत। स्फाटिकं च सभाद्रव्यं यदासीद्वृषपर्वणः ॥ किङ्करैः सह रक्षोभिरगृह्णात्सर्वमेव तत् ॥२-३-१६॥
tatra gatvā sa jagrāha gadāṃ śaṅkhaṃ ca bhārata। sphāṭikaṃ ca sabhādravyaṃ yad āsīd vṛṣaparvaṇaḥ ॥ kiṅkaraiḥ saha rakṣobhir agṛhṇāt sarvam eva tat ॥2-3-16॥
[तत्र (tatra) - there; गत्वा (gatvā) - having gone; सः (saḥ) - he; जग्राह (jagrāha) - seized; गदाम् (gadām) - mace; शङ्खम् (śaṅkham) - conch; च (ca) - and; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata; स्फाटिकम् (sphāṭikam) - crystal; च (ca) - and; सभाद्रव्यं (sabhādravyaṃ) - assembly property; यत् (yat) - which; आसीत् (āsīt) - was; वृषपर्वणः (vṛṣaparvaṇaḥ) - of Vṛṣaparvan; किङ्करैः (kiṅkaraiḥ) - by attendants; सह (saha) - together with; रक्षोभिः (rakṣobhiḥ) - by demons; अगृह्णात् (agṛhṇāt) - took; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; एव (eva) - indeed; तत् (tat) - that;]
(There having gone, he seized the mace, conch, and, O Bhārata, the crystal and the assembly property which was of Vṛṣaparvan. Together with the attendants and demons, he took all that indeed.)

तदाहृत्य तु तां चक्रे सोऽसुरोऽप्रतिमां सभाम्। विश्रुतां त्रिषु लोकेषु दिव्यां मणिमयीं शुभाम् ॥२-३-१७॥
tad āhṛtya tu tāṃ cakre so'suro'pratimāṃ sabhām। viśrutāṃ triṣu lokeṣu divyāṃ maṇimayīṃ śubhām॥2-3-17॥
[तत् (tat) - that; आहृत्य (āhṛtya) - having brought; तु (tu) - but; ताम् (tām) - her; चक्रे (cakre) - made; सः (saḥ) - he; असुरः (asuraḥ) - the asura; अप्रतिमाम् (apratimām) - unrivaled; सभाम् (sabhām) - assembly hall; विश्रुताम् (viśrutām) - renowned; त्रिषु (triṣu) - in three; लोकेषु (lokeṣu) - worlds; दिव्याम् (divyām) - divine; मणिमयीम् (maṇimayīm) - made of jewels; शुभाम् (śubhām) - auspicious;]
(That having brought but her made he the asura unrivaled assembly hall renowned in three worlds divine made of jewels auspicious.)
But having brought that, the asura made her into an unrivaled, auspicious assembly hall, renowned in the three worlds, divine and made of jewels. (2-3-17)
गदां च भीमसेनाय प्रवरां प्रददौ तदा। देवदत्तं च पार्थाय ददौ शङ्खमनुत्तमम् ॥२-३-१८॥
gadāṃ ca bhīmasenāya pravarāṃ pradadau tadā। devadattaṃ ca pārthāya dadau śaṅkham-anuttamam ॥2-3-18॥

सभा तु सा महाराज शातकुम्भमयद्रुमा। दश किष्कुसहस्राणि समन्तादायताभवत् ॥२-३-१९॥

यथा वह्नेर्यथार्कस्य सोमस्य च यथैव सा। भ्राजमाना तथा दिव्या बभार परमं वपुः ॥२-३-२०॥

न दाशार्ही सुधर्मा वा ब्रह्मणो वापि तादृशी। आसीद्रूपेण सम्पन्ना यां चक्रेऽप्रतिमां मयः ॥२-३-२४॥
na dāśārhī sudharmā vā brahmaṇo vāpi tādṛśī। āsīdrūpeṇa sampannā yāṃ cakre'pratimāṃ mayaḥ ॥2-3-24॥

(Of those born in water and of garlands, of those born on land and in all ways, the wind, having taken the fragrance, indeed serves the Pāṇḍavas.)
The wind, carrying the fragrance of water-born and land-born flowers and garlands in every way, attends upon the Pāṇḍavas. (2-3-33)
ईदृशीं तां सभां कृत्वा मासैः परिचतुर्दशैः। निष्ठितां धर्मराजाय मयो राज्ञे न्यवेदयत् ॥२-३-३४॥
īdṛśīṃ tāṃ sabhāṃ kṛtvā māsaiḥ paricaturdaśaiḥ। niṣṭhitāṃ dharmarājāya mayo rājñe nyavedayat ॥2-3-34॥

(Such a hall having made, in full fourteen months, established, to Dharmarāja, Maya to the king submitted.)
After constructing such a hall in exactly fourteen months, Maya presented the completed assembly to King Dharmarāja. (2-3-34)
