Pancharatra: Krishna describes the landscape of Bharat and advises Yudhisthira to defeat Jarasanda, if he wants to perform Rajasuya sacrifice.

सर्वैर्गुणैर्महाराज राजसूयं त्वमर्हसि। जानतस्त्वेव ते सर्वं किञ्चिद्वक्ष्यामि भारत ॥२-१३-१॥
sarvair guṇair mahārāja rājasūyaṃ tvam arhasi। jānatās tveva te sarvaṃ kiñcid vakṣyāmi bhārata ॥2-13-1॥
[सर्वैः (sarvaiḥ) - by all; गुणैः (guṇaiḥ) - qualities; महाराज (mahārāja) - O great king; राजसूयम् (rājasūyam) - Rājasūya sacrifice; त्वम् (tvam) - you; अर्हसि (arhasi) - are worthy; जानतः (jānataḥ) - to one who knows; त्व (tva) - indeed; एव (eva) - only; ते (te) - to you; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - anything; वक्ष्यामि (vakṣyāmi) - I shall speak; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata;]
(O great king, you are worthy of the Rājasūya sacrifice by all qualities. To you, who knows, indeed, only to you, O Bhārata, I shall speak all, anything.)
O great king, endowed with all virtues, you are worthy of the Rājasūya sacrifice. O Bhārata, since you already know, I will nevertheless tell you everything. (2-13-1)
जामदग्न्येन रामेण क्षत्रं यदवशेषितम्। तस्मादवरजं लोके यदिदं क्षत्रसञ्ज्ञितम् ॥२-१३-२॥
jāmadagnyena rāmeṇa kṣatraṃ yadavaśeṣitam। tasmādavarajaṃ loke yadidaṃ kṣatrasañjñitam ॥2-13-2॥
[जामदग्न्येन (jāmadagnyena) - by Jāmadagnya (Paraśurāma); रामेण (rāmeṇa) - by Rāma; (i.e., Paraśurāma) क्षत्रं (kṣatram) - the warrior class; (kṣatriya) यत् (yat) - which; (that which) अवशेषितम् (avaśeṣitam) - was left; (remained) तस्मात् (tasmāt) - from that; (therefore) अवरजम् (avarajam) - younger; (descended later) लोके (loke) - in the world; यत् (yat) - which; इदम् (idam) - this; क्षत्रसञ्ज्ञितम् (kṣatrasañjñitam) - called kṣatra; (having the designation of kṣatriya);]
(By Jāmadagnya Rāma, the warrior class which was left; from that, the younger (descended later) in the world, which is this, is called kṣatra.)
The warrior class that remained after the actions of Jāmadagnya Rāma, from that, those who came later in the world are called 'kṣatra' (the warrior class). (2-13-2)
कृतोऽयं कुलसङ्कल्पः क्षत्रियैर्वसुधाधिप। निदेशवाग्भिस्तत्ते ह विदितं भरतर्षभ ॥२-१३-३॥
kṛto'yaṃ kulasaṅkalpaḥ kṣatriyairvasudhādhipa। nideśavāgbhistatte ha viditaṃ bharatarṣabha ॥2-13-3॥
[कृतः (kṛtaḥ) - done; accomplished; अयम् (ayam) - this; कुलसङ्कल्पः (kulasaṅkalpaḥ) - family resolution; clan decision; क्षत्रियैः (kṣatriyaiḥ) - by the kṣatriyas; by the warriors; वसुधाधिप (vasudhādhipa) - O lord of the earth; O king; निदेशवाग्भिः (nideśavāgbhiḥ) - by words of command; by authoritative speech; तत् (tat) - that; ते (te) - to you; ह (ha) - indeed; surely; विदितम् (viditam) - known; भरतर्षभ (bharatarṣabha) - O bull among the Bharatas;]
(This family resolution has been made by the kṣatriyas, O lord of the earth, by words of command; that indeed is known to you, O bull among the Bharatas.)
O best of the Bharatas, this family decision has been made by the kṣatriyas, O king, by their authoritative command; you surely know this. (2-13-3)
ऐलस्येक्ष्वाकुवंशस्य प्रकृतिं परिचक्षते। राजानः श्रेणिबद्धाश्च ततोऽन्ये क्षत्रिया भुवि ॥२-१३-४॥
ailasya ikṣvāku-vaṃśasya prakṛtiṃ paricakṣate। rājānaḥ śreṇi-baddhāś ca tato 'nye kṣatriyā bhuvi ॥2-13-4॥
[ऐलस्य (ailasya) - of Aila; (descendant of Ila); इक्ष्वाकुवंशस्य (ikṣvāku-vaṃśasya) - of the Ikṣvāku lineage; प्रकृतिं (prakṛtim) - nature; origin; परिचक्षते (paricakṣate) - describe; राजानः (rājānaḥ) - kings; श्रेणिबद्धाः (śreṇi-baddhāḥ) - arranged in order; च (ca) - and; ततः (tataḥ) - then; from that; अन्ये (anye) - other; क्षत्रियाः (kṣatriyāḥ) - kṣatriyas; भुवि (bhuvi) - on earth;]
(They describe the nature of Aila, of the Ikṣvāku lineage. The kings, arranged in order, and then other kṣatriyas on earth.)
They describe the origin of Aila of the Ikṣvāku dynasty. The kings are listed in succession, and then the other kṣatriyas on earth. (2-13-4)
ऐलवंश्यास्तु ये राजंस्तथैवेक्ष्वाकवो नृपाः। तानि चैकशतं विद्धि कुलानि भरतर्षभ ॥२-१३-५॥
ailavaṃśyāstu ye rājaṃstathaivekṣvākavo nṛpāḥ। tāni caikaśataṃ viddhi kulāni bharatarṣabha ॥2-13-5॥
[ऐलवंश्याः (ailavaṃśyāḥ) - descendants of Ila; तु (tu) - but; ये (ye) - who; राजन् (rājan) - O king; तथा (tathā) - likewise; एव (eva) - indeed; इक्ष्वाकवः (ikṣvākavaḥ) - descendants of Ikṣvāku; नृपाः (nṛpāḥ) - kings; तानि (tāni) - those; च (ca) - and; एकशतम् (ekaśatam) - one hundred; विद्धि (viddhi) - know; कुलानि (kulāni) - families; भरतर्षभ (bharatarṣabha) - bull among the Bharatas;]
(But, O king, those who are descendants of Ila and likewise the kings of the Ikṣvāku line—know those to be one hundred families, O bull among the Bharatas.)
O king, the descendants of Ila and the Ikṣvāku kings—know, O best of the Bharatas, that these constitute one hundred royal families. (2-13-5)
ययातेस्त्वेव भोजानां विस्तरोऽतिगुणो महान्। भजते च महाराज विस्तरः स चतुर्दिशम् ॥२-१३-६॥
yayātestveva bhojānāṃ vistarō'tiguṇō mahān। bhajatē ca mahārāja vistaraḥ sa caturdiśam ॥2-13-6॥
[ययातेः (yayāteḥ) - of Yayāti; तु (tu) - but; एव (eva) - indeed; भोजानाम् (bhojānām) - of the Bhojas; विस्तरः (vistaraḥ) - expansion; अतिगुणः (atiguṇaḥ) - exceedingly virtuous; महान् (mahān) - great; भजते (bhajate) - enjoys; च (ca) - and; महाराज (mahārāja) - O great king; विस्तरः (vistaraḥ) - expansion; सः (saḥ) - that; चतुर्दिशम् (caturdiśam) - in four directions;]
(Of Yayāti, but indeed, of the Bhojas, the expansion exceedingly virtuous, great; enjoys also, O great king, the expansion, that, in four directions.)
O great king, the exceedingly virtuous and great expansion of the Bhojas, originating from Yayāti, spreads in all four directions. (2-13-6)
तेषां तथैव तां लक्ष्मीं सर्वक्षत्रमुपासते। सोऽवनीं मध्यमां भुक्त्वा मिथोभेदेष्वमन्यत ॥२-१३-७॥
teṣāṃ tathaiva tāṃ lakṣmīṃ sarvakṣatramupāsate। so'vanīṃ madhyamāṃ bhuktvā mithobhedeṣvamanyata ॥2-13-7॥
[तेषां (teṣām) - of them; तथैव (tathaiva) - in the same way; तां (tām) - that; लक्ष्मीं (lakṣmīm) - prosperity; सर्वक्षत्रम् (sarvakṣatram) - all the kṣatriyas; उपासते (upāsate) - worship; सः (saḥ) - he; अवनीं (avanīm) - the earth; मध्यमाम् (madhyamām) - middle; भुक्त्वा (bhuktvā) - having enjoyed; मिथः (mithaḥ) - mutually; भेदेषु (bhedeṣu) - in divisions; अमन्यत (amanyata) - considered;]
(Of them, in the same way, all the kṣatriyas worship that prosperity. He, having enjoyed the middle earth, considered (it) among mutual divisions.)
In the same way, all the kṣatriyas worship that prosperity among them. Having enjoyed the central part of the earth, he considered it amidst their mutual divisions. (2-13-7)
चतुर्युस्त्वपरो राजा यस्मिन्नेकशतोऽभवत्। स साम्राज्यं जरासन्धः प्राप्तो भवति योनितः ॥२-१३-८॥
caturyus tv aparo rājā yasmin nekaśato 'bhavat। sa sāmrājyaṃ jarāsandhaḥ prāpto bhavati yonitaḥ ॥2-13-8॥
[चतुर्युः (caturyuḥ) - having four yokes; तु (tu) - but; अपरो (aparaḥ) - another; राजा (rājā) - king; यस्मिन् (yasmin) - in whom; एकशतः (ekaśataḥ) - one hundred; अभवत् (abhavat) - were; सः (saḥ) - he; साम्राज्यम् (sāmrājyam) - sovereignty; जरासन्धः (jarāsandhaḥ) - Jarāsandha; प्राप्तः (prāptaḥ) - attained; भवति (bhavati) - becomes; योनितः (yonitaḥ) - by birth;]
(But another king with four yokes, in whom there were one hundred, he, Jarāsandha, attained sovereignty, becomes by birth.)

तं स राजा महाप्राज्ञ संश्रित्य किल सर्वशः। राजन्सेनापतिर्जातः शिशुपालः प्रतापवान् ॥२-१३-९॥
taṃ sa rājā mahāprājña saṃśritya kila sarvaśaḥ। rājansenāpatiḥ jātaḥ śiśupālaḥ pratāpavān ॥2-13-9॥
[तं (taṃ) - him; स (sa) - he; राजा (rājā) - king; महाप्राज्ञ (mahāprājña) - very wise; संश्रित्य (saṃśritya) - having resorted to; किल (kila) - indeed; सर्वशः (sarvaśaḥ) - in every way; राजन् (rājan) - O king; सेनापतिः (senāpatiḥ) - commander of the army; जातः (jātaḥ) - became; शिशुपालः (śiśupālaḥ) - Śiśupāla; प्रतापवान् (pratāpavān) - valiant;]
(Him, he, the very wise king, having resorted to indeed in every way, O king, the commander of the army became, Śiśupāla, valiant.)
O king, Śiśupāla, the valiant, having indeed in every way resorted to that very wise king, became the commander of the army. (2-13-9)
तमेव च महाराज शिष्यवत्समुपस्थितः। वक्रः करूषाधिपतिर्मायायोधी महाबलः ॥२-१३-१०॥
tameva ca mahārāja śiṣyavatsamupasthitaḥ। vakraḥ karūṣādhipatirmāyāyodhī mahābalaḥ ॥2-13-10॥
[तम् (tam) - him; एव (eva) - only; च (ca) - and; महाराज (mahārāja) - O great king; शिष्यवत्सम् (śiṣyavatsam) - like a disciple; उपस्थितः (upasthitaḥ) - approached; वक्रः (vakraḥ) - Vakra; करूषाधिपतिः (karūṣādhipatiḥ) - the lord of Karūṣa; मायायोधी (māyāyodhī) - one who fights with illusion; महाबलः (mahābalaḥ) - of great strength;]
(Him only and, O great king, like a disciple approached; Vakra, the lord of Karūṣa, one who fights with illusion, of great strength.)
O great king, Vakra, the mighty lord of Karūṣa skilled in illusion, approached him as a disciple. (2-13-10)
अपरौ च महावीर्यौ महात्मानौ समाश्रितौ। जरासन्धं महावीर्यं तौ हंसडिभकावुभौ ॥२-१३-११॥
aparau ca mahāvīryau mahātmānau samāśritau। jarāsandhaṃ mahāvīryaṃ tau haṃsaḍibhakāvubhau ॥2-13-11॥
[अपरौ (aparau) - the other two; च (ca) - and; महावीर्यौ (mahāvīryau) - of great strength; महात्मानौ (mahātmānau) - great-souled; समाश्रितौ (samāśritau) - having taken refuge; जरासन्धं (jarāsandham) - Jarāsandha; महावीर्यं (mahāvīryam) - of great strength; तौ (tau) - those two; हंसडिभकौ (haṃsaḍibhakau) - Haṃsa and Ḍibhaka; उभौ (ubhau) - both;]
(The other two, of great strength, great-souled, having taken refuge, Jarāsandha of great strength, those two, Haṃsa and Ḍibhaka, both.)
The other two, Haṃsa and Ḍibhaka, both great-souled and of great strength, took refuge with Jarāsandha, who was also of great strength. (2-13-11)
दन्तवक्रः करूषश्च कलभो मेघवाहनः। मूर्ध्ना दिव्यं मणिं बिभ्रद्यं तं भूतमणिं विदुः ॥२-१३-१२॥
dantavakraḥ karūṣaś ca kalabho meghavāhanaḥ। mūrdhnā divyaṃ maṇiṃ bibhradyam taṃ bhūtamaṇiṃ viduḥ॥2-13-12॥
[दन्तवक्रः (dantavakraḥ) - Dantavakra; (name of a person); करूषः (karūṣaḥ) - Karūṣa; (name of a person); च (ca) - and; कलभः (kalabhaḥ) - Kalabha; (name of a person); मेघवाहनः (meghavāhanaḥ) - Meghavāhana; (name of a person); मूर्ध्ना (mūrdhnā) - on the head; दिव्यम् (divyam) - divine; मणिम् (maṇim) - gem; बिभ्रत् (bibhrat) - bearing; यम् (yam) - which; तम् (tam) - that; भूतमणिम् (bhūtamaṇim) - Bhūtamaṇi; (name of the gem); विदुः (viduḥ) - they knew;]
(Dantavakra, Karūṣa, and Kalabha, Meghavāhana, bearing the divine gem on the head, that which is called Bhūtamaṇi, they knew.)
Dantavakra, Karūṣa, Kalabha, and Meghavāhana, all bore the divine gem called Bhūtamaṇi on their heads, and they recognized it as such. (2-13-12)
मुरं च नरकं चैव शास्ति यो यवनाधिपौ। अपर्यन्तबलो राजा प्रतीच्यां वरुणो यथा ॥२-१३-१३॥
muraṃ ca narakaṃ caiva śāsti yo yavanādhipau| aparyantabalo rājā pratīcyāṃ varuṇo yathā ||2-13-13||
[मुरम् (muraṃ) - Mura (a demon); च (ca) - and; नरकम् (narakaṃ) - Naraka (a demon); च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; शास्ति (śāsti) - rules; governs; यः (yaḥ) - who; यवनाधिपौ (yavanādhipau) - the two lords of the Yavanas; अपर्यन्तबलः (aparyantabalaḥ) - of boundless strength; राजा (rājā) - king; प्रतीच्याम् (pratīcyām) - in the west; वरुणः (varuṇaḥ) - Varuṇa (the deity); यथा (yathā) - just as; like;]
(He who rules Mura and Naraka and the two lords of the Yavanas, the king of boundless strength in the west, like Varuṇa.)
He who governs Mura, Naraka, and the two Yavana chiefs, is a king of limitless power in the west, like Varuṇa. (2-13-13)
भगदत्तो महाराज वृद्धस्तव पितुः सखा। स वाचा प्रणतस्तस्य कर्मणा चैव भारत ॥२-१३-१४॥
bhagadatto mahārāja vṛddhas tava pituḥ sakhā। sa vācā praṇatas tasya karmaṇā caiva bhārata ॥2-13-14॥

स्नेहबद्धस्तु पितृवन्मनसा भक्तिमांस्त्वयि। प्रतीच्यां दक्षिणं चान्तं पृथिव्याः पाति यो नृपः ॥२-१३-१५॥
snehabaddhastu pitṛvanmanasā bhaktimāṃstvayi. pratīcyāṃ dakṣiṇaṃ cāntaṃ pṛthivyāḥ pāti yo nṛpaḥ ॥2-13-15॥
[स्नेहबद्धः (snehabaddhaḥ) - bound by affection; तु (tu) - but; पितृवत् (pitṛvat) - like a father; मनसा (manasā) - with mind; भक्तिमान् (bhaktimān) - devoted; त्वयि (tvayi) - to you; प्रतीच्याम् (pratīcyām) - in the west; दक्षिणम् (dakṣiṇam) - south; च (ca) - and; अन्तम् (antam) - end; पृथिव्याः (pṛthivyāḥ) - of the earth; पाति (pāti) - protects; यः (yaḥ) - who; नृपः (nṛpaḥ) - king;]
(But the king who, bound by affection, like a father, with mind devoted to you, protects the end of the earth in the west and south.)

मातुलो भवतः शूरः पुरुजित्कुन्तिवर्धनः। स ते संनतिमानेकः स्नेहतः शत्रुतापनः ॥२-१३-१६॥
mātulo bhavataḥ śūraḥ purujit-kuntivardhanaḥ। sa te saṁnatimānekaḥ snehaṭaḥ śatrutāpanaḥ ॥2-13-16॥

(Your maternal uncle, the valiant Purujit and Kuntivardhana; he, respectful to you, out of affection, the tormentor of enemies.)

जरासन्धं गतस्त्वेवं पुरा यो न मया हतः। पुरुषोत्तमविज्ञातो योऽसौ चेदिषु दुर्मतिः ॥२-१३-१७॥
jarāsandhaṃ gatastvevaṃ purā yo na mayā hataḥ। puruṣottamavijñāto yo'sau cediṣu durmatiḥ ॥2-13-17॥

आत्मानं प्रतिजानाति लोकेऽस्मिन्पुरुषोत्तमम्। आदत्ते सततं मोहाद्यः स चिह्नं च मामकम् ॥२-१३-१८॥
ātmānaṃ pratijānāti loke'smin puruṣottamam। ādatte satataṃ mohād yaḥ sa cihnaṃ ca māmakam ॥2-13-18॥
[आत्मानम् (ātmānam) - self; प्रतिजानाति (pratijānāti) - claims; लोके (loke) - in the world; अस्मिन् (asmin) - in this; पुरुषोत्तमम् (puruṣottamam) - the best among men; आदत्ते (ādatte) - takes; सततम् (satatam) - always; मोहात् (mohāt) - out of delusion; यः (yaḥ) - who; सः (saḥ) - he; चिह्नम् (cihnam) - mark; च (ca) - and; मामकम् (māmakam) - mine;]
(He claims himself as the best among men in this world; he who, always out of delusion, takes the mark and mine.)
In this world, one who, out of delusion, always claims himself to be the best among men, takes as his own both the mark and what belongs to me. (2-13-18)
वङ्गपुण्ड्रकिरातेषु राजा बलसमन्वितः। पौण्ड्रको वासुदेवेति योऽसौ लोकेषु विश्रुतः ॥२-१३-१९॥
vaṅgapuṇḍrakirāteṣu rājā balasamanvitaḥ। pauṇḍrako vāsudeveti yo'sau lokeṣu viśrutaḥ ॥2-13-19॥
[वङ्ग (vaṅga) - in the region of Vanga; पुण्ड्र (puṇḍra) - in the region of Puṇḍra; किरातेषु (kirāteṣu) - among the Kirātas; राजा (rājā) - king; बलसमन्वितः (balasamanvitaḥ) - endowed with strength; पौण्ड्रकः (pauṇḍrakaḥ) - Pauṇḍraka; वासुदेव (vāsudeva) - Vāsudeva; इति (iti) - thus; यः (yaḥ) - who; असौ (asau) - that; लोकेषु (lokeṣu) - among the worlds; विश्रुतः (viśrutaḥ) - famous;]
(In the regions of Vanga, Puṇḍra, and among the Kirātas, the king endowed with strength, Pauṇḍraka, who is known as 'Vāsudeva', is famous among the worlds.)
In the regions of Vanga, Puṇḍra, and among the Kirātas, there was a powerful king named Pauṇḍraka, who was renowned everywhere as 'Vāsudeva'. (2-13-19)
चतुर्युः स महाराज भोज इन्द्रसखो बली। विद्याबलाद्यो व्यजयत्पाण्ड्यक्रथककैशिकान् ॥२-१३-२०॥
caturyuḥ sa mahārāja bhoja indrasakho balī। vidyābalādyo vyajayat pāṇḍyakrathakakaiśikān ॥2-13-20॥

कस्यचित्त्वथ कालस्य कंसो निर्मथ्य बान्धवान्। बार्हद्रथसुते देव्यावुपागच्छद्वृथामतिः ॥२-१३-२९॥
kasyacit tv atha kālasya kaṃso nirmathya bāndhavān। bārhadrathasute devyāv upāgacchad vṛthā-matiḥ ॥2-13-29॥

अस्तिः प्राप्तिश्च नाम्ना ते सहदेवानुजेऽबले। बलेन तेन स ज्ञातीनभिभूय वृथामतिः ॥२-१३-३०॥
astiḥ prāptiś ca nāmnā te sahadevānuje’bale। balena tena sa jñātīn abhibhūya vṛthāmatiḥ ॥2-13-30॥

(There is attainment also by name for you, O weak one, (of) Sahadeva's younger brother. By strength, by him, he, having overcome kinsmen, (is) vain-minded.)
You, O weak one, have a reputation for attainment as Sahadeva's younger brother. By his strength, he has overcome his kinsmen and has become vain-minded. (2-13-30)
श्रैष्ठ्यं प्राप्तः स तस्यासीदतीवापनयो महान्। भोजराजन्यवृद्धैस्तु पीड्यमानैर्दुरात्मना ॥२-१३-३१॥
śraiṣṭhyaṃ prāptaḥ sa tasyāsīdatīvāpanayo mahān। bhojarājanyavṛddhaistu pīḍyamānairdurātmanā ॥2-13-31॥
[श्रैष्ठ्यं (śraiṣṭhyaṃ) - excellence; superiority; प्राप्तः (prāptaḥ) - attained; obtained; स (sa) - he; तस्य (tasya) - his; आसीत् (āsīt) - was; अतीव (atīva) - exceedingly; greatly; अपनयः (apanayaḥ) - removal; loss; महान् (mahān) - great; भोजराजन्यवृद्धैः (bhojarājanyavṛddhaiḥ) - by the elder nobles of the Bhoja clan; तु (tu) - but; पीड्यमानैः (pīḍyamānaiḥ) - being oppressed; दुरात्मना (durātmanā) - by the wicked one;]
(Excellence attained he; his was exceedingly great removal; by the elder nobles of the Bhoja clan but being oppressed by the wicked one.)
He had attained excellence; but his great loss was that, being oppressed by the elder nobles of the Bhoja clan and by the wicked one. (2-13-31)
ज्ञातित्राणमभीप्सद्भिरस्मत्सम्भावना कृता। दत्त्वाक्रूराय सुतनुं तामाहुकसुतां तदा ॥२-१३-३२॥
jñātitrāṇam abhipsadbhir asmat-sambhāvanā kṛtā। dattvākrūrāya sutanuṃ tām āhukasutāṃ tadā ॥2-13-32॥
[ज्ञाति (jñāti) - relative; त्राणम् (trāṇam) - protection; अभीप्सद्भिः (abhipsadbhih) - by those desiring; अस्मत् (asmat) - our; सम्भावना (sambhāvanā) - honor; कृता (kṛtā) - was done; दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; अक्रूराय (akrūrāya) - to Akrura; सुतनुम् (sutanuṃ) - the slender one; ताम् (tām) - her; आहुकसुताम् (āhukasutāṃ) - the daughter of Ahuka; तदा (tadā) - then;]
(Protection of relatives was desired by our people; honor was done. Having given the slender one, the daughter of Ahuka, to Akrura then.)
Our people, desiring the protection of relatives, honored Akrura by giving him the slender one, the daughter of Ahuka, at that time. (2-13-32)
सङ्कर्षणद्वितीयेन ज्ञातिकार्यं मया कृतम्। हतौ कंससुनामानौ मया रामेण चाप्युत ॥२-१३-३३॥
saṅkarṣaṇadvitīyena jñātikāryaṃ mayā kṛtam। hatau kaṃsasunāmānau mayā rāmeṇa cāpyuta ॥2-13-33॥

With Saṅkarṣaṇa as my second, I fulfilled my duty towards my relatives. The two sons of Kaṃsa were slain by me and by Rāma as well. (2-13-33)
भये तु समुपक्रान्ते जरासन्धे समुद्यते। मन्त्रोऽयं मन्त्रितो राजन्कुलैरष्टादशावरैः ॥२-१३-३४॥
bhaye tu samupakrānte jarāsandhe samudyate. mantro'yaṃ mantrito rājan kulair aṣṭādaśāvaraiḥ ॥2-13-34॥
[भये (bhaye) - in danger; तु (tu) - but; समुपक्रान्ते (samupakrānte) - having approached; जरासन्धे (jarāsandhe) - Jarasandha; समुद्यते (samudyate) - having arisen; मन्त्रः (mantraḥ) - counsel; अयम् (ayam) - this; मन्त्रितः (mantritaḥ) - deliberated; राजन् (rājan) - O king; कुलैः (kulaiḥ) - by families; अष्टादश (aṣṭādaśa) - eighteen; आवरैः (āvaraiḥ) - by chiefs;]
(But when danger approached and Jarasandha arose, this counsel was deliberated, O king, by the eighteen chief families.)

अनारमन्तो निघ्नन्तो महास्त्रैः शतघातिभिः। न हन्याम वयं तस्य त्रिभिर्वर्षशतैर्बलम् ॥२-१३-३५॥
anāramanto nighnanto mahāstraiḥ śataghātibhiḥ। na hanyāma vayaṃ tasya tribhirvarṣaśatairbalam ॥2-13-35॥
[अनारमन्तः (anāramantaḥ) - not-relaxing; निघ्नन्तः (nighnantaḥ) - striking; महास्त्रैः (mahāstraiḥ) - with great weapons; शतघातिभिः (śataghātibhiḥ) - with those who strike a hundred times; न (na) - not; हन्याम (hanyāma) - could kill; वयम् (vayam) - we; तस्य (tasya) - his; त्रिभिः (tribhiḥ) - with three; वर्षशतैः (varṣaśataiḥ) - hundred years; बलम् (balam) - strength;]
(Not relaxing, striking with great weapons and with those who strike a hundred times, we could not kill his strength even in three hundred years.)
Even if we do not relax and keep striking with great weapons and with warriors who strike a hundred times, we could not destroy his strength even in three hundred years. (2-13-35)
तस्य ह्यमरसङ्काशौ बलेन बलिनां वरौ। नामभ्यां हंसडिभकावित्यास्तां योधसत्तमौ ॥२-१३-३६॥
tasya hy amarasaṅkāśau balena balināṃ varau। nāmabhyāṃ haṃsaḍibhakāv ity āstāṃ yodhasattamau ॥2-13-36॥
[तस्य (tasya) - of him; हि (hi) - indeed; अमरसङ्काशौ (amarasaṅkāśau) - resembling immortals; बलेन (balena) - by strength; बलिनां (balinām) - of the strong; वरौ (varau) - the best; नामभ्यां (nāmabhyām) - by names; हंसडिभकौ (haṃsaḍibhakau) - Haṃsa and Ḍibhaka; इति (iti) - thus; आस्ताम् (āstām) - were; योधसत्तमौ (yodhasattamau) - the foremost warriors;]
(Of him indeed, resembling immortals, by strength, the best of the strong; by names Haṃsa and Ḍibhaka thus were, the foremost warriors.)
They, indeed, who resembled immortals and were the strongest among the strong, were known by the names Haṃsa and Ḍibhaka, and were the foremost of warriors. (2-13-36)
तावुभौ सहितौ वीरौ जरासन्धश्च वीर्यवान्। त्रयस्त्रयाणां लोकानां पर्याप्ता इति मे मतिः ॥२-१३-३७॥
tāvubhau sahitau vīrau jarāsandhaś ca vīryavān। trayas trayāṇāṃ lokānāṃ paryāptā iti me matiḥ ॥2-13-37॥
[तौ (tau) - those two; उभौ (ubhau) - both; सहितौ (sahitau) - together; वीरौ (vīrau) - heroes; जरासन्धः (jarāsandhaḥ) - Jarāsandha; च (ca) - and; वीर्यवान् (vīryavān) - powerful; त्रयः (trayaḥ) - three; त्रयाणाम् (trayāṇām) - of the three; लोकानाम् (lokānām) - of the worlds; पर्याप्ताः (paryāptāḥ) - sufficient; इति (iti) - thus; मे (me) - my; मतिः (matiḥ) - opinion;]
(Those two, both together, heroes, and Jarāsandha, powerful; three of the three worlds are sufficient—thus is my opinion.)
Those two heroes together, along with the powerful Jarāsandha, are sufficient to face the three worlds—this is my opinion. (2-13-37)
न हि केवलमस्माकं यावन्तोऽन्ये च पार्थिवाः। तथैव तेषामासीच्च बुद्धिर्बुद्धिमतां वर ॥२-१३-३८॥
na hi kevalamasmākaṃ yāvanto'nye ca pārthivāḥ। tathaiva teṣām āsīc ca buddhir buddhimatāṃ vara ॥2-13-38॥
[न (na) - not; हि (hi) - indeed; केवलम् (kevalam) - only; अस्माकम् (asmākam) - our; यावन्तः (yāvantaḥ) - as many as; अन्ये (anye) - others; च (ca) - and; पार्थिवाः (pārthivāḥ) - kings; तथैव (tathaiva) - in the same way; तेषाम् (teṣām) - of them; आसीत् (āsīt) - there was; च (ca) - and; बुद्धिः (buddhiḥ) - understanding; बुद्धिमताम् (buddhimatām) - of the wise; वर (vara) - best;]
(Not indeed only of us, as many other kings also; in the same way, of them there was also understanding, O best of the wise.)

अथ हंस इति ख्यातः कश्चिदासीन्महान्नृपः। स चान्यैः सहितो राजन्सङ्ग्रामेऽष्टादशावरैः ॥२-१३-३९॥

(Then, Haṃsa, thus well-known, some great king was. He and with others, O king, accompanied in battle with eighteen protectors.)

(Killed swan thus was said then by someone, O Bhārata; that having heard, the jackal, royal sage, in the water drowned.)
O Bhārata, when someone said, "The swan has been killed," upon hearing that, the jackal, the royal sage, drowned himself in the water. (2-13-40)
विना हंसेन लोकेऽस्मिन्नाहं जीवितुमुत्सहे। इत्येतां मतिमास्थाय डिभको निधनं गतः ॥२-१३-४१॥
vinā haṃsena loke'sminnāhaṃ jīvitumutsahe. ityetāṃ matimāsthāya ḍibhako nidhanaṃ gataḥ ॥2-13-41॥

(Without the swan, in this world, I am able to live—thus, having adopted this thought, the jackal went to death.)
Thinking, "Without the swan, I am able to live in this world," the jackal, having adopted this thought, went to his death. (2-13-41)
तथा तु डिभकं श्रुत्वा हंसः परपुरञ्जयः। प्रपेदे यमुनामेव सोऽपि तस्यां न्यमज्जत ॥२-१३-४२॥
tathā tu ḍibhakaṃ śrutvā haṃsaḥ parapurañjayaḥ। prapede yamunāmeva so'pi tasyāṃ nyamajjat ॥2-13-42॥

(Thus but the jackal having heard, the swan, conqueror of enemy cities, reached only the Yamunā; he also in her sank down.)
Thus, having heard the jackal, the swan, conqueror of enemy cities, went to the Yamunā river and he too sank in her. (2-13-42)
तौ स राजा जरासन्धः श्रुत्वाप्सु निधनं गतौ। स्वपुरं शूरसेनानां प्रययौ भरतर्षभ ॥२-१३-४३॥
tau sa rājā jarāsandhaḥ śrutvā apsu nidhanaṃ gatau। svapuraṃ śūrasenānāṃ prayayau bharatarṣabha ॥2-13-43॥
[तौ (tau) - those two; स (sa) - that; राजा (rājā) - king; जरासन्धः (jarāsandhaḥ) - Jarāsandha; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; अप्सु (apsu) - in the water; निधनं (nidhanaṃ) - death; गतौ (gatau) - gone; स्वपुरं (svapuraṃ) - his own city; शूरसेनानां (śūrasenānāṃ) - of the Śūrasenas; प्रययौ (prayayau) - departed; भरतर्षभ (bharatarṣabha) - O best of the Bharatas;]
(Those two, that king Jarāsandha, having heard of the death in the water, went. To his own city of the Śūrasenas, he departed, O best of the Bharatas.)

ततो वयममित्रघ्न तस्मिन्प्रतिगते नृपे। पुनरानन्दिताः सर्वे मथुरायां वसामहे ॥२-१३-४४॥
tato vayam amitraghna tasmin pratigate nṛpe। punar ānanditāḥ sarve mathurāyāṃ vasāmahe ॥2-13-44॥

(Then we, the destroyer of enemies, when that king had returned, again all delighted, dwell in Mathurā.)

यदा त्वभ्येत्य पितरं सा वै राजीवलोचना। कंसभार्या जरासन्धं दुहिता मागधं नृपम् ॥२-१३-४५॥
yadā tvabhyetya pitaraṃ sā vai rājīvalocanā। kaṃsabhāryā jarāsandhaṃ duhitā māgadhaṃ nṛpam ॥2-13-45॥

(When indeed, having approached her father, she, the lotus-eyed, wife of Kaṃsa, daughter of Jarāsandha, the king of Magadha.)
When she, the lotus-eyed woman, wife of Kaṃsa, daughter of Jarāsandha, the king of Magadha, approached her father. (2-13-45)
चोदयत्येव राजेन्द्र पतिव्यसनदुःखिता। पतिघ्नं मे जहीत्येवं पुनः पुनररिंदम ॥२-१३-४६॥
codayatyeva rājendra pativyasanaduḥkhitā। patighnaṃ me jahītyevaṃ punaḥ punararindama ॥2-13-46॥

(Indeed, O king, distressed by the affliction of her husband, she keeps inciting me again and again, saying, 'Destroy the slayer of my husband thus, O subduer of enemies.')
O King, afflicted by her husband's suffering, she repeatedly urges me, saying, 'O subduer of enemies, destroy the slayer of my husband.' (2-13-46)
ततो वयं महाराज तं मन्त्रं पूर्वमन्त्रितम्। संस्मरन्तो विमनसो व्यपयाता नराधिप ॥२-१३-४७॥
tato vayaṃ mahārāja taṃ mantraṃ pūrvamantritam। saṃsmaranto vimanasaḥ vyapayātā narādhipa ॥2-13-47॥

(Then we, O great king, remembering that counsel previously deliberated, dispirited, departed, O ruler of men.)

पृथक्त्वेन द्रुता राजन्सङ्क्षिप्य महतीं श्रियम्। प्रपतामो भयात्तस्य सधनज्ञातिबान्धवाः ॥२-१३-४८॥
pṛthaktvena drutā rājan saṅkṣipya mahatīṃ śriyam। prapatāmo bhayāt tasya sadhana-jñāti-bāndhavāḥ ॥2-13-48॥
[पृथक्त्वेन (pṛthaktvena) - by separation; by being apart; द्रुता (drutā) - hurried; rushed; राजन् (rājan) - O king; सङ्क्षिप्य (saṅkṣipya) - having gathered; having collected; महतीं (mahatīm) - great; large; श्रियम् (śriyam) - wealth; prosperity; प्रपतामः (prapatāmaḥ) - we fall; we plunge; भयात् (bhayāt) - from fear; तस्य (tasya) - of him; of that one; सधन (sadhana) - with wealth; ज्ञाति (jñāti) - relatives; बान्धवाः (bāndhavāḥ) - kinsmen; friends;]
(By separation, hurried, O king, having gathered great wealth, we fall from fear of him, with wealth, relatives, and kinsmen.)
O king, being separated and in haste, having gathered great wealth, we, along with our wealth, relatives, and kinsmen, fall down out of fear of him. (2-13-48)
इति सञ्चिन्त्य सर्वे स्म प्रतीचीं दिशमाश्रिताः। कुशस्थलीं पुरीं रम्यां रैवतेनोपशोभिताम् ॥२-१३-४९॥
iti sañcintya sarve sma pratīcīṃ diśam āśritāḥ। kuśasthalīṃ purīṃ ramyāṃ raivatena upaśobhitām ॥2-13-49॥
[इति (iti) - thus; सञ्चिन्त्य (sañcintya) - having considered; सर्वे (sarve) - all; स्म (sma) - indeed; प्रतीचीं (pratīcīṃ) - western; दिशम् (diśam) - direction; आश्रिताः (āśritāḥ) - having resorted to; कुशस्थलीं (kuśasthalīṃ) - Kuśasthalī; पुरीं (purīṃ) - city; रम्यां (ramyāṃ) - beautiful; रैवतेन (raivatena) - by Raivata; उपशोभिताम् (upaśobhitām) - adorned;]
(Thus, having considered, all indeed resorted to the western direction, to the beautiful city of Kuśasthalī, adorned by Raivata.)
Having thus deliberated, they all proceeded towards the west, to the beautiful city of Kuśasthalī, which was adorned by Raivata. (2-13-49)
पुनर्निवेशनं तस्यां कृतवन्तो वयं नृप। तथैव दुर्गसंस्कारं देवैरपि दुरासदम् ॥२-१३-५०॥
punarniveśanaṃ tasyāṃ kṛtavanto vayaṃ nṛpa। tathaiva durgasaṃskāraṃ devair api durāsadam ॥2-13-50॥
[पुनः (punaḥ) - again; निवेशनम् (niveśanam) - settlement; तस्याम् (tasyām) - in that (place/female); कृतवन्तः (kṛtavantaḥ) - have done; वयम् (vayam) - we; नृप (nṛpa) - O king; तथैव (tathaiva) - in the same way; दुर्गसंस्कारम् (durgasaṃskāram) - fortification; देवैः (devaiḥ) - by the gods; अपि (api) - even; दुरासदम् (durāsadam) - difficult to approach;]
(Again, settlement in that (place) we have made, O king; in the same way, fortification, even by the gods difficult to approach.)
O king, we have again established a settlement there; likewise, we have constructed a fortification that is difficult even for the gods to approach. (2-13-50)
स्त्रियोऽपि यस्यां युध्येयुः किं पुनर्वृष्णिपुङ्गवाः। तस्यां वयममित्रघ्न निवसामोऽकुतोभयाः ॥२-१३-५१॥
striyo'pi yasyāṃ yudhyeyuḥ kiṃ punarvṛṣṇipuṅgavāḥ। tasyāṃ vayam amitraghna nivasāmo'kutobhayāḥ ॥2-13-51॥
[स्त्रियः (striyaḥ) - women; अपि (api) - even; यस्याम् (yasyām) - in which; युध्येयुः (yudhyeyuḥ) - would fight; किम् (kim) - what (to speak of); पुनः (punar) - again; वृष्णिपुङ्गवाः (vṛṣṇipuṅgavāḥ) - bulls among the Vṛṣṇis; तस्याम् (tasyām) - in that (city); वयम् (vayam) - we; अमित्रघ्न (amitraghna) - destroyer of enemies; निवसामः (nivasāmaḥ) - would dwell; अकुतोभयाः (akutobhayāḥ) - free from fear from any quarter;]
(Women even in which would fight; what (to speak of) again bulls among the Vṛṣṇis; in that (city) we, destroyer of enemies, would dwell, free from fear from any quarter.)
Even women would fight in that city; what then of the mighty Vṛṣṇis? In such a place, O destroyer of enemies, we would live without fear from any quarter. (2-13-51)
आलोक्य गिरिमुख्यं तं माधवीतीर्थमेव च। माधवाः कुरुशार्दूल परां मुदमवाप्नुवन् ॥२-१३-५२॥
ālokya girimukhyaṃ taṃ mādhavītīrthameva ca। mādhavāḥ kuruśārdūla parāṃ mudamavāpnuvan ॥2-13-52॥
[आलोक्य (ālokya) - having seen; गिरिमुख्यं (girimukhyaṃ) - the chief mountain; तं (taṃ) - that; माधवीतीर्थम् (mādhavītīrtham) - Mādhavī tīrtha; एव (eva) - indeed; च (ca) - and; माधवाः (mādhavāḥ) - the Mādhavas; कुरुशार्दूल (kuruśārdūla) - O tiger among Kurus; परां (parāṃ) - supreme; मुदम् (mudam) - joy; अवाप्नुवन् (avāpnuvan) - attained;]
(Having seen that chief mountain and indeed the Mādhavī tīrtha, the Mādhavas, O tiger among Kurus, attained supreme joy.)

एवं वयं जरासन्धादादितः कृतकिल्बिषाः। सामर्थ्यवन्तः सम्बन्धाद्भवन्तं समुपाश्रिताः ॥२-१३-५३॥
evaṃ vayaṃ jarāsandhād āditaḥ kṛtakilbiṣāḥ। sāmarthyavantaḥ sambandhād bhavantaṃ samupāśritāḥ ॥2-13-53॥
[एवं (evaṃ) - thus; वयम् (vayam) - we; जरासन्धात् (jarāsandhāt) - from Jarasandha; आदितः (āditaḥ) - having been attacked; कृतकिल्बिषाः (kṛtakilbiṣāḥ) - having committed sin; सामर्थ्यवन्तः (sāmarthyavantaḥ) - possessing strength; सम्बन्धात् (sambandhāt) - due to relationship; भवन्तम् (bhavantaṃ) - you; समुपाश्रिताः (samupāśritāḥ) - have taken refuge;]
(Thus we, having been attacked by Jarasandha, having committed sin, possessing strength, due to relationship, you, have taken refuge.)
Thus, having been attacked by Jarasandha and having committed sin, we, though possessing strength, have taken refuge with you due to our relationship. (2-13-53)
त्रियोजनायतं सद्म त्रिस्कन्धं योजनादधि। योजनान्ते शतद्वारं विक्रमक्रमतोरणम् ॥ अष्टादशावरैर्नद्धं क्षत्रियैर्युद्धदुर्मदैः ॥२-१३-५४॥
triyojanāyataṃ sadma triskandhaṃ yojanād-adhi। yojanānte śatadvāraṃ vikramakramatoraṇam ॥ aṣṭādaśāvarairnaddhaṃ kṣatriyairyuddhadurmadaiḥ ॥2-13-54॥

(A mansion three yojanas long, with three stories, rising above a yojana; at the end of a yojana, a hundred gates, an archway of valour and steps; bound by eighteen enclosures by kṣatriyas arrogant in battle.)

अष्टादश सहस्राणि व्रातानां सन्ति नः कुले। आहुकस्य शतं पुत्रा एकैकस्त्रिशतावरः ॥२-१३-५५॥
aṣṭādaśa sahasrāṇi vrātānāṃ santi naḥ kule। āhukasya śataṃ putrā ekaikastrīśatāvaraḥ ॥2-13-55॥

(Destroyers of people, heroes, possessing strength, of great might, remembering the middle region, in the midst of the Vṛṣṇis, free from distress.)

स त्वं सम्राड्गुणैर्युक्तः सदा भरतसत्तम। क्षत्रे सम्राजमात्मानं कर्तुमर्हसि भारत ॥२-१३-६०॥
sa tvaṃ samrāḍ-guṇair yuktaḥ sadā bharatasattama। kṣatre samrājam ātmānaṃ kartum arhasi bhārata ॥2-13-60॥
[स (sa) - he; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; सम्राट् (samrāṭ) - emperor; गुणैः (guṇaiḥ) - with virtues; युक्तः (yuktaḥ) - endowed; सदा (sadā) - always; भरतसत्तम (bharatasattama) - O best of the Bharatas; क्षत्रे (kṣatre) - in the kṣatriya (order); सम्राजम् (samrājam) - emperor; आत्मानम् (ātmānam) - yourself; कर्तुम् (kartum) - to make; अर्हसि (arhasi) - you ought; भारत (bhārata) - O descendant of Bharata;]
(He, you, emperor, with virtues, endowed, always, O best of the Bharatas, in the kṣatriya (order), emperor, yourself, to make, you ought, O descendant of Bharata.)
O best of the Bharatas, you, always endowed with virtues, ought to make yourself emperor in the kṣatriya order, O descendant of Bharata. (2-13-60)
न तु शक्यं जरासन्धे जीवमाने महाबले। राजसूयस्त्वया प्राप्तुमेषा राजन्मतिर्मम ॥२-१३-६१॥
na tu śakyaṃ jarāsandhe jīvamāne mahābale। rājasūyastvayā prāptumeṣā rājanmatirmama ॥2-13-61॥
[न (na) - not; तु (tu) - but; शक्यं (śakyaṃ) - possible; जरासन्धे (jarāsandhe) - in Jarasandha; जीवमाने (jīvamāne) - while living; महाबले (mahābale) - mighty; राजसूयः (rājasūyaḥ) - Rājasūya (sacrifice); त्वया (tvayā) - by you; प्राप्तुम् (prāptum) - to be obtained; एषा (eṣā) - this; राजन् (rājan) - O king; मतिः (matiḥ) - thought; मम (mama) - my;]
(But it is not possible, while Jarasandha, the mighty, is living, for you to obtain the Rājasūya; this, O king, is my thought.)
But, O king, my opinion is that as long as the mighty Jarasandha lives, it is not possible for you to accomplish the Rājasūya sacrifice. (2-13-61)
तेन रुद्धा हि राजानः सर्वे जित्वा गिरिव्रजे। कन्दरायां गिरीन्द्रस्य सिंहेनेव महाद्विपाः ॥२-१३-६२॥
tena ruddhā hi rājānaḥ sarve jitvā girivraje। kandarāyāṃ girīndrasya siṃheneva mahādvipāḥ ॥2-13-62॥
[तेन (tena) - by him; रुद्धाः (ruddhāḥ) - restrained; हि (hi) - indeed; राजानः (rājānaḥ) - kings; सर्वे (sarve) - all; जित्वा (jitvā) - having conquered; गिरिव्रजे (girivraje) - in the mountain city; कन्दरायाम् (kandarāyām) - in the cave; गिरीन्द्रस्य (girīndrasya) - of the lord of mountains; सिंहेन (siṃhena) - by the lion; इव (iva) - like; महाद्विपाः (mahādvipāḥ) - great elephants;]
(By him, indeed, all the kings, having been restrained, having conquered in the mountain city, in the cave of the lord of mountains, like great elephants by the lion.)
By him, indeed, all the kings, after being conquered, were restrained in the mountain city, in the cave of the lord of mountains, just as great elephants are by the lion. (2-13-62)
सोऽपि राजा जरासन्धो यियक्षुर्वसुधाधिपैः। आराध्य हि महादेवं निर्जितास्तेन पार्थिवाः ॥२-१३-६३॥
so'pi rājā jarāsandho yiyakṣurvasudhādhipaiḥ। ārādhya hi mahādevaṃ nirjitāstena pārthivāḥ ॥2-13-63॥
[सः (saḥ) - he; अपि (api) - also; राजा (rājā) - king; जरासन्धः (jarāsandhaḥ) - Jarāsandha; यियक्षुः (yiyakṣuḥ) - desiring to conquer; वसुधाधिपैः (vasudhādhipaiḥ) - by the lords of the earth; आराध्य (ārādhya) - having worshipped; हि (hi) - indeed; महादेवं (mahādevaṃ) - Mahādeva (Śiva); निर्जिताः (nirjitāḥ) - conquered; तेन (tena) - by him; पार्थिवाः (pārthivāḥ) - kings;]
(He also, King Jarāsandha, desiring to conquer, by the lords of the earth, having worshipped indeed Mahādeva, conquered by him the kings.)
King Jarāsandha also, wishing for victory over the rulers of the earth, worshipped Mahādeva; by him, the kings were conquered. (2-13-63)
स हि निर्जित्य निर्जित्य पार्थिवान्पृतनागतान्। पुरमानीय बद्ध्वा च चकार पुरुषव्रजम् ॥२-१३-६४॥
sa hi nirjitya nirjitya pārthivān pṛtanā-gatān। puram ānīya baddhvā ca cakāra puruṣa-vrajam ॥2-13-64॥
[स (sa) - he; हि (hi) - indeed; निर्जित्य (nirjitya) - having conquered; निर्जित्य (nirjitya) - having conquered; पार्थिवान् (pārthivān) - kings; पृतनागतान् (pṛtanāgatān) - those who had come to the battle; पुरम् (puram) - to the city; आनीय (ānīya) - having brought; बद्ध्वा (baddhvā) - having bound; च (ca) - and; चकार (cakāra) - made; पुरुषव्रजम् (puruṣa-vrajam) - a multitude of men;]
(He indeed, having conquered, having conquered the kings who had come to the battle, having brought (them) to the city and having bound (them), made a multitude of men.)

वयं चैव महाराज जरासन्धभयात्तदा। मथुरां सम्परित्यज्य गता द्वारवतीं पुरीम् ॥२-१३-६५॥
vayaṃ caiva mahārāja jarāsandhabhayāttadā। mathurāṃ samparityajya gatā dvāravatīṃ purīm ॥2-13-65॥
[वयं (vayaṃ) - we; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; महाराज (mahārāja) - O great king; जरासन्ध (jarāsandha) - Jarāsandha; भयात् (bhayāt) - from fear; तदा (tadā) - then; मथुराम् (mathurām) - Mathurā; सम्परित्यज्य (samparityajya) - having completely abandoned; गता (gatā) - went; द्वारवतीम् (dvāravatīm) - to Dvāravatī; पुरीम् (purīm) - city;]
(We indeed, O great king, then from fear of Jarāsandha, having completely abandoned Mathurā, went to the city of Dvāravatī.)
O great king, we then, out of fear of Jarāsandha, completely abandoned Mathurā and went to the city of Dvāravatī. (2-13-65)
यदि त्वेनं महाराज यज्ञं प्राप्तुमिहेच्छसि। यतस्व तेषां मोक्षाय जरासन्धवधाय च ॥२-१३-६६॥
yadi tvenaṃ mahārāja yajñaṃ prāptum ihecchasi। yatasva teṣāṃ mokṣāya jarāsandhavadāya ca ॥2-13-66॥
[यदि (yadi) - if; त्व (tva) - you; एनम् (enam) - this; महाराज (mahārāja) - great king; यज्ञम् (yajñam) - sacrifice; प्राप्तुम् (prāptum) - to obtain; इह (iha) - here; इच्छसि (icchasi) - you desire; यतस्व (yatasva) - strive; तेषाम् (teṣām) - of them; मोक्षाय (mokṣāya) - for liberation; जरासन्धवधाय (jarāsandhavadāya) - for the killing of Jarasandha; च (ca) - and;]
(If you, O great king, desire to obtain the sacrifice here, strive for their liberation and for the killing of Jarasandha also.)
If you wish to perform the sacrifice here, O great king, then strive for their liberation and for the slaying of Jarasandha as well. (2-13-66)
समारम्भो हि शक्योऽयं नान्यथा कुरुनन्दन। राजसूयस्य कार्त्स्न्येन कर्तुं मतिमतां वर ॥२-१३-६७॥
samārambho hi śakyo'yaṃ nānyathā kurunandana। rājasūyasya kārtsnyena kartuṃ matimatāṃ vara ॥2-13-67॥
[समारम्भः (samārambhaḥ) - commencement; undertaking; हि (hi) - indeed; शक्यः (śakyaḥ) - possible; अयम् (ayam) - this; न (na) - not; अन्यथा (anyathā) - otherwise; कुरुनन्दन (kurunandana) - O delight of the Kurus; राजसूयस्य (rājasūyasya) - of the rājasūya (royal consecration); कार्त्स्न्येन (kārtsnyena) - in entirety; कर्तुम् (kartum) - to do; मतिमताम् (matimatām) - of the wise; वर (vara) - best;]
(The commencement indeed is possible, O delight of the Kurus, not otherwise, to perform the rājasūya in entirety, O best of the wise.)
O Kurunandana, the undertaking is possible only in this way, not otherwise, to perform the rājasūya sacrifice in its entirety, O best among the wise. (2-13-67)
इत्येषा मे मती राजन्यथा वा मन्यसेऽनघ। एवं गते ममाचक्ष्व स्वयं निश्चित्य हेतुभिः ॥२-१३-६८॥
ityeṣā me matī rājanyathā vā manyase'nagha। evaṃ gate mamācakṣva svayaṃ niścitya hetubhiḥ ॥2-13-68॥
[इति (iti) - thus; एषा (eṣā) - this; मे (me) - my; मती (matī) - thought; राजन् (rājan) - O king; यथा (yathā) - as; वा (vā) - or; मन्यसे (manyase) - you think; अनघ (anagha) - O sinless one; एवं (evaṃ) - thus; गते (gate) - having happened; मम (mama) - to me; आचक्ष्व (ācakṣva) - tell; स्वयम् (svayam) - yourself; निश्चित्य (niścitya) - having ascertained; हेतुभिः (hetubhiḥ) - with reasons;]
(Thus this is my thought, O king; or as you think, O sinless one. In this situation, tell me yourself, having ascertained with reasons.)
This is my opinion, O king; but if you think otherwise, O sinless one, then, in this situation, tell me your view after considering the reasons yourself. (2-13-68)
