Pancharatra: Krishna’s various son’s fight Shalva’s army.

तां तूपयात्वा राजेन्द्र शाल्वः सौभपतिस्तदा। प्रभूतनरनागेन बलेनोपविवेश ह ॥३-१७-१॥
tāṃ tūpayātvā rājendra śālvaḥ saubhapatis tadā। prabhūta-nara-nāgena balena upaviveśa ha ॥3-17-1॥
[ताम् (tām) - her; तु (tu) - but; उपयात्वा (upayātvā) - having approached; राजेन्द्र (rājendra) - O king; शाल्वः (śālvaḥ) - Śālva; सौभपतिः (saubhapatiḥ) - the lord of Saubha; तदा (tadā) - then; प्रभूत (prabhūta) - abundant; नर (nara) - men; नागेन (nāgena) - with elephants; बलेन (balena) - with army; उपविवेश (upaviveśa) - he encamped; ह (ha) - indeed;]
(Her but having approached, O king, Śālva, the lord of Saubha, then, with abundant men and elephants, with army, indeed encamped.)
But having approached her, O king, Śālva, the lord of Saubha, then encamped there with a great army of men and elephants. (3-17-1)
समे निविष्टा सा सेना प्रभूतसलिलाशये। चतुरङ्गबलोपेता शाल्वराजाभिपालिता ॥३-१७-२॥

(On the level ground settled that army in the abundant water-reservoir, endowed with fourfold force, protected by King Śālva.)
That army, established on level ground in the area full of water, equipped with the fourfold forces, was guarded by King Śālva. (3-17-2)
वर्जयित्वा श्मशानानि देवतायतनानि च। वल्मीकांश्चैव चैत्यांश्च तन्निविष्टमभूद्बलम् ॥३-१७-३॥
varjayitvā śmaśānāni devatāyatnāni ca। valmīkāṃścaiva caityāṃśca tanniviṣṭamabhūdbalam ॥3-17-3॥

अनीकानां विभागेन पन्थानः षट्कृताभवन्। प्रवणा नव चैवासञ्शाल्वस्य शिबिरे नृप ॥३-१७-४॥
anīkānāṃ vibhāgena panthānaḥ ṣaṭkṛtābhavan। pravaṇā nava caivāsañśālvasya śibire nṛpa ॥3-17-4॥

तुष्टपुष्टजनोपेतं वीरलक्षणलक्षितम्। विचित्रध्वजसंनाहं विचित्ररथकार्मुकम् ॥३-१७-६॥
tuṣṭapuṣṭajanopetaṃ vīralakṣaṇalakṣitam। vicitradhvajasaṃnāhaṃ vicitrarathakārmukam ॥3-17-6॥
[तुष्ट (tuṣṭa) - pleased; satisfied; पुष्ट (puṣṭa) - nourished; strong; जन (jana) - people; persons; उपेतं (upetaṃ) - endowed with; accompanied by; वीर (vīra) - hero; brave; लक्षण (lakṣaṇa) - mark; sign; characteristic; लक्षितम् (lakṣitam) - marked; distinguished; विचित्र (vicitra) - variegated; wonderful; ध्वज (dhvaja) - banner; flag; संनाहं (saṃnāhaṃ) - armor; array; विचित्र (vicitra) - variegated; wonderful; रथ (ratha) - chariot; कार्मुकम् (kārmukam) - bow;]
(Endowed with pleased and nourished people, marked by the characteristics of heroes, with wonderful banners and armor, with wonderful chariots and bows.)
It was accompanied by satisfied and strong people, distinguished by heroic marks, adorned with wonderful banners and armor, and equipped with splendid chariots and bows. (3-17-6)
संनिवेश्य च कौरव्य द्वारकायां नरर्षभ। अभिसारयामास तदा वेगेन पतगेन्द्रवत् ॥३-१७-७॥
saṁniveśya ca kauravya dvārakāyāṁ nararṣabha। abhisārayāmāsa tadā vegena patagendravat ॥3-17-7॥
[संनिवेश्य (saṁniveśya) - having placed together; च (ca) - and; कौरव्य (kauravya) - O descendant of Kuru; द्वारकायां (dvārakāyām) - in Dvārakā; नरर्षभ (nararṣabha) - O bull among men; अभिसारयामास (abhisārayāmāsa) - he caused to proceed; तदा (tadā) - then; वेगेन (vegena) - with speed; पतगेन्द्रवत् (patagendravat) - like the king of birds;]

Having assembled everything in Dvārakā, O descendant of Kuru, the bull among men then set out swiftly, like the king of birds. (3-17-7)
तदापतन्तं संदृश्य बलं शाल्वपतेस्तदा। निर्याय योधयामासुः कुमारा वृष्णिनन्दनाः ॥३-१७-८॥
tadāpatantaṃ sandṛśya balaṃ śālvapates tadā। niryāya yodhayāmāsuḥ kumārā vṛṣṇinandanāḥ ॥3-17-8॥
[तदा (tadā) - then; अपतन्तम् (apatantam) - falling upon; संदृश्य (sandṛśya) - having seen; बलम् (balam) - army; शाल्वपतेः (śālvapateḥ) - of the lord of Śālva; तदा (tadā) - then; निर्याय (niryāya) - having gone out; योधयामासुः (yodhayāmāsuḥ) - they fought; कुमाराः (kumārāḥ) - princes; वृष्णिनन्दनाः (vṛṣṇinandanāḥ) - descendants of Vṛṣṇi;]
(Then, having seen the army of the lord of Śālva falling upon (them), then, having gone out, the princes, descendants of Vṛṣṇi, fought.)
Then, seeing the army of the lord of Śālva advancing, the princes, descendants of Vṛṣṇi, went out and fought. (3-17-8)
असहन्तोऽभियानं तच्छाल्वराजस्य कौरव। चारुदेष्णश्च साम्बश्च प्रद्युम्नश्च महारथः ॥३-१७-९॥
asahanto’bhiyānaṃ tacchālvarājasya kaurava। cārudeṣṇaś ca sāmbaś ca pradyumnaś ca mahārathaḥ ॥3-17-9॥
[असहन्तः (asahantaḥ) - not enduring; not tolerating; अभियानम् (abhiyānam) - attack; assault; तत् (tat) - that; शाल्वराजस्य (śālvarājasya) - of the king of Śālva; कौरव (kaurava) - O Kaurava; चारुदेष्णः (cārudeṣṇaḥ) - Cārudeṣṇa; च (ca) - and; साम्बः (sāmbaḥ) - Sāmba; च (ca) - and; प्रद्युम्नः (pradyumnaḥ) - Pradyumna; च (ca) - and; महारथः (mahārathaḥ) - great chariot-warrior;]
(Not enduring the attack of that king of Śālva, O Kaurava, Cārudeṣṇa and Sāmba and Pradyumna, the great chariot-warrior.)
O Kaurava, Cārudeṣṇa, Sāmba, and Pradyumna, the great chariot-warrior, could not endure the attack of that king of Śālva. (3-17-9)
ते रथैर्दंशिताः सर्वे विचित्राभरणध्वजाः। संसक्ताः शाल्वराजस्य बहुभिर्योधपुङ्गवैः ॥३-१७-१०॥
te rathair daṃśitāḥ sarve vicitrābharaṇadhvajāḥ। saṃsaktāḥ śālvarājasya bahubhir yodhapuṅgavaiḥ ॥3-17-10॥
[ते (te) - they; रथैः (rathaiḥ) - by chariots; दंशिताः (daṃśitāḥ) - adorned; सर्वे (sarve) - all; विचित्र (vicitra) - various; आभरण (ābharaṇa) - ornaments; ध्वजाः (dhvajāḥ) - banners; संसक्ताः (saṃsaktāḥ) - joined; शाल्वराजस्य (śālvarājasya) - of the king of Śālva; बहुभिः (bahubhiḥ) - by many; योध (yodha) - warrior; पुङ्गवैः (puṅgavaiḥ) - heroes;]
(They, adorned by chariots, all with various ornaments and banners, joined with the king of Śālva by many warrior heroes.)
All of them, adorned with chariots, various ornaments, and banners, were joined with the king of Śālva, accompanied by many heroic warriors. (3-17-10)
गृहीत्वा तु धनुः साम्बः शाल्वस्य सचिवं रणे। योधयामास संहृष्टः क्षेमवृद्धिं चमूपतिम् ॥३-१७-११॥
gṛhītvā tu dhanuḥ sāmbhaḥ śālvasya sacivaṃ raṇe। yodhayāmāsa saṃhṛṣṭaḥ kṣemavṛddhiṃ camūpatim ॥3-17-11॥

(Having taken the bow, but Sāmba, of Śālva the minister in battle, fought, joyful, Kṣemavṛddhi, commander of the army.)
But Sāmba, having taken up his bow, joyfully fought in battle with Kṣemavṛddhi, the commander of Śālva's army. (3-17-11)
तस्य बाणमयं वर्षं जाम्बवत्याः सुतो महत्। मुमोच भरतश्रेष्ठ यथा वर्षं सहस्रदृक् ॥३-१७-१२॥
tasya bāṇamayaṃ varṣaṃ jāmbavatyāḥ suto mahat। mumoca bharataśreṣṭha yathā varṣaṃ sahasradṛk ॥3-17-12॥

(Of him, a shower consisting of arrows, the son of Jāmbavatī, great, released, O best of the Bharatas, as rain (is released) by the thousand-eyed (Indra).)
O best of the Bharatas, the great son of Jāmbavatī released a shower of arrows, just as the thousand-eyed (Indra) releases rain. (3-17-12)
तद्बाणवर्षं तुमुलं विषेहे स चमूपतिः। क्षेमवृद्धिर्महाराज हिमवानिव निश्चलः ॥३-१७-१३॥
tad-bāṇa-varṣaṃ tumulaṃ viṣehe sa camūpatiḥ। kṣema-vṛddhir-mahārāja himavān-iva niścalaḥ॥3-17-13॥
[तत् (tat) - that; बाणवर्षम् (bāṇa-varṣam) - arrow-rain; तुमुलम् (tumulam) - tumultuous; विषेहे (viṣehe) - endured; सः (saḥ) - he; चमूपतिः (camūpatiḥ) - commander of the army; क्षेमवृद्धिः (kṣema-vṛddhiḥ) - Kṣemavṛddhi (name); महाराज (mahārāja) - O great king; हिमवान् (himavān) - Himavat (the Himalaya); इव (iva) - like; निश्चलः (niścalaḥ) - unmoving;]
(That arrow-rain tumultuous endured he, the commander of the army, Kṣemavṛddhi, O great king, like Himavat, unmoving.)
O great king, Kṣemavṛddhi, the commander of the army, endured that tumultuous shower of arrows, remaining unmoving like the Himalaya. (3-17-13)
ततः साम्बाय राजेन्द्र क्षेमवृद्धिरपि स्म ह। मुमोच मायाविहितं शरजालं महत्तरम् ॥३-१७-१४॥
tataḥ sāmbāya rājendra kṣemavṛddhir api sma ha। mumoca māyāvihitaṃ śarajālaṃ mahattaram ॥3-17-14॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; साम्बाय (sāmbāya) - to Sāmba; राजेन्द्र (rājendra) - O king; क्षेमवृद्धिः (kṣemavṛddhiḥ) - prosperity and increase; अपि (api) - also; स्म (sma) - indeed; ह (ha) - certainly; मुमोच (mumoca) - released; मायाविहितं (māyāvihitam) - created by illusion; शरजालं (śarajālam) - net of arrows; महत्तरम् (mahattaram) - very great;]
(Then to Sāmba, O king, prosperity and increase also indeed certainly. He released a very great net of arrows created by illusion.)

ततो मायामयं जालं माययैव विदार्य सः। साम्बः शरसहस्रेण रथमस्याभ्यवर्षत ॥३-१७-१५॥
tato māyāmayaṃ jālaṃ māyayāiva vidārya saḥ। sāmbhaḥ śarasahasreṇa ratham asya abhyavarṣata ॥3-17-15॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; मायामयं (māyāmayaṃ) - consisting of illusion; जालं (jālaṃ) - net; मायया (māyayā) - by illusion; एव (eva) - indeed; विदार्य (vidārya) - having torn; सः (saḥ) - he; साम्बः (sāmbhaḥ) - Samba; शरसहस्रेण (śarasahasreṇa) - with a thousand arrows; रथम् (ratham) - chariot; अस्य (asya) - his; अभ्यवर्षत (abhyavarṣata) - showered upon;]
(Then, having torn the net consisting of illusion indeed by illusion, he, Samba, showered his chariot with a thousand arrows.)

ततः स विद्धः साम्बेन क्षेमवृद्धिश्चमूपतिः। अपायाज्जवनैरश्वैः साम्बबाणप्रपीडितः ॥३-१७-१६॥

[ततः (tataḥ) - then; स (sa) - he; विद्धः (viddhaḥ) - pierced; साम्बेन (sāmbena) - by Sāmba; क्षेमवृद्धिः (kṣemavṛddhiḥ) - Kṣemavṛddhi; च (ca) - and; मूपतिः (camūpatiḥ) - commander of the army; अपायात् (apāyāt) - departed; जवनैः (javanaiḥ) - by swift; अश्वैः (aśvaiḥ) - horses; साम्ब (sāmba) - Sāmba; बाण (bāṇa) - arrow; प्रपीडितः (prapīḍitaḥ) - oppressed;]
(Then he, pierced by Sāmba, Kṣemavṛddhi, the commander of the army, departed by swift horses, oppressed by Sāmba's arrow.)
Then Kṣemavṛddhi, the commander of the army, having been pierced by Sāmba and afflicted by Sāmba's arrow, departed quickly on swift horses. (3-17-16)
तस्मिन्विप्रद्रुते क्रूरे शाल्वस्याथ चमूपतौ। वेगवान्नाम दैतेयः सुतं मेऽभ्यद्रवद्बली ॥३-१७-१७॥
tasmin vipradrute krūre śālvasya atha camūpatau। vegavān nāma daiteyaḥ sutaṃ me 'abhyadravad balī ॥3-17-17॥
[तस्मिन् (tasmin) - in that; विप्रद्रुते (vipradrute) - when routed; क्रूरे (krūre) - cruel; शाल्वस्य (śālvasya) - of Śālva; अथ (atha) - then; चमूपतौ (camūpatau) - army-chief; वेगवान् (vegavān) - Vegavān; नाम (nāma) - named; दैतेयः (daiteyaḥ) - son of Diti (demon); सुतं (sutaṃ) - son; मे (me) - my; अभ्यद्रवत् (abhyadravat) - rushed at; बली (balī) - powerful;]
(In that routed, cruel army-chief of Śālva, then Vegavān named Daiteya, my son, powerful, rushed at.)
When the cruel army-chief of Śālva was routed, then Vegavān, the powerful Daiteya by name, rushed at my son. (3-17-17)
अभिपन्नस्तु राजेन्द्र साम्बो वृष्णिकुलोद्वहः। वेगं वेगवतो राजंस्तस्थौ वीरो विधारयन् ॥३-१७-१८॥
abhipannastu rājendra sāmbho vṛṣṇikulodvahaḥ। vegaṃ vegavato rājaṃstasthau vīro vidhārayan ॥3-17-18॥
[अभिपन्नः (abhipannaḥ) - having approached; तु (tu) - but; राजेन्द्र (rājendra) - O king; साम्बः (sāmbhaḥ) - Sāmba; वृष्णिकुलोद्वहः (vṛṣṇikulodvahaḥ) - the best of the Vṛṣṇi clan; वेगं (vegam) - speed; वेगवतः (vegavataḥ) - of the one with speed; राजन् (rājan) - O king; तस्थौ (tasthau) - stood; वीरः (vīraḥ) - the hero; विधारयन् (vidhārayan) - restraining;]
(But having approached, O king, Sāmba, the best of the Vṛṣṇi clan, stood restraining the speed of the one with speed, O king, the hero.)
But Sāmba, the foremost of the Vṛṣṇi clan, O king, having approached, stood firm and restrained the speed of the swift one, O heroic king. (3-17-18)
स वेगवति कौन्तेय साम्बो वेगवतीं गदाम्। चिक्षेप तरसा वीरो व्याविध्य सत्यविक्रमः ॥३-१७-१९॥
sa vegavatī kaunteya sāmbho vegavatīṃ gadām। cikṣepa tarasā vīro vyāvidhya satyavikramaḥ ॥3-17-19॥
[स (sa) - he; वेगवति (vegavatī) - with speed; कौन्तेय (kaunteya) - O son of Kunti; साम्बः (sāmbhaḥ) - Sāmba; वेगवतीम् (vegavatīm) - swift; गदाम् (gadām) - mace; चिक्षेप (cikṣepa) - hurled; तरसा (tarasā) - with force; वीरः (vīraḥ) - the hero; व्याविध्य (vyāvidhya) - having whirled; सत्यविक्रमः (satyavikramaḥ) - of true valor;]
(He with speed, O son of Kunti, Sāmba, the swift mace, hurled with force, the hero, having whirled, of true valor.)
He, O son of Kunti, Sāmba, the hero of true valor, having whirled his swift mace with speed, hurled it with force. (3-17-19)
तया त्वभिहतो राजन्वेगवानपतद्भुवि। वातरुग्ण इव क्षुण्णो जीर्णमूलो वनस्पतिः ॥३-१७-२०॥
tayā tv abhihato rājan vegavān apatad bhuvi। vātarugṇa iva kṣuṇṇo jīrṇamūlo vanaspatiḥ ॥3-17-20॥

(By her indeed struck, O king, the swift (one) fell on the ground; like a tree with decayed root, shattered, broken by wind.)
O king, struck by her, the swift one fell to the ground, like a tree with decayed roots shattered by the wind. (3-17-20)
तस्मिन्निपतिते वीरे गदानुन्ने महासुरे। प्रविश्य महतीं सेनां योधयामास मे सुतः ॥३-१७-२१॥
tasminnipatite vīre gadānunne mahāsure। praviśya mahatīṃ senāṃ yodhayāmāsa me sutaḥ ॥3-17-21॥
[तस्मिन् (tasmin) - in that; निपतिते (nipatite) - fallen; वीरे (vīre) - hero; गदा (gadā) - mace; उन्ने (unne) - raised; महा (mahā) - great; असुरे (asure) - asura; प्रविश्य (praviśya) - having entered; महतीं (mahatīṃ) - great; सेनां (senāṃ) - army; योधयामास (yodhayāmāsa) - fought; मे (me) - my; सुतः (sutaḥ) - son;]
(In that (place), with the hero fallen, the mace raised, the great asura, having entered the great army, my son fought.)
When the hero, the great asura with the raised mace, had fallen there, my son entered the great army and fought. (3-17-21)
चारुदेष्णेन संसक्तो विविन्ध्यो नाम दानवः। महारथः समाज्ञातो महाराज महाधनुः ॥३-१७-२२॥
cārudeṣṇena saṁsakto vivindhyo nāma dānavaḥ। mahārathaḥ samājñāto mahārāja mahādhanuḥ ॥3-17-22॥

O great king, a demon named Vivindhya, a great chariot-warrior and wielder of a mighty bow, well-known, was joined by Cārudeṣṇa. (3-17-22)
ततः सुतुमुलं युद्धं चारुदेष्णविविन्ध्ययोः। वृत्रवासवयो राजन्यथा पूर्वं तथाभवत् ॥३-१७-२३॥
tataḥ sutumulaṃ yuddhaṃ cārudeṣṇavivindhyayoḥ। vṛtravāsavayo rājan yathā pūrvaṃ tathābhavat ॥3-17-23॥

(Then a very tumultuous battle between Cārudeṣṇa and Vivindhya, O king, as formerly between Vṛtra and Vāsava, so it happened.)
Then, O king, a very tumultuous battle took place between Cārudeṣṇa and Vivindhya, just as it had once occurred between Vṛtra and Indra. (3-17-23)
अन्योन्यस्याभिसङ्क्रुद्धावन्योन्यं जघ्नतुः शरैः। विनदन्तौ महाराज सिंहाविव महाबलौ ॥३-१७-२४॥
anyonyasyābhisaṅkruddhāv anyonyaṃ jaghnatuḥ śaraiḥ। vinadantau mahārāja siṃhāv iva mahābalau ॥3-17-24॥

(Of each other, both greatly enraged, each other struck with arrows; both roaring, O great king, like lions, both of great strength.)
O great king, both of them, greatly enraged, struck each other with arrows, roaring like two lions of immense strength. (3-17-24)
रौक्मिणेयस्ततो बाणमग्न्यर्कोपमवर्चसम्। अभिमन्त्र्य महास्त्रेण संदधे शत्रुनाशनम् ॥३-१७-२५॥
raukmiṇeyas tato bāṇam agny-arkopama-varcasam। abhimantr̥ya mahāstreṇa sandadhe śatrunāśanam ॥3-17-25॥
[रौक्मिणेयः (raukmiṇeyaḥ) - son of Rukmiṇī; ततः (tataḥ) - then; बाणम् (bāṇam) - arrow; अग्नि-अर्क-उपम-वर्चसम् (agni-arka-upama-varcasam) - having brilliance like fire and sun; अभिमन्त्र्य (abhimantr̥ya) - having consecrated with mantra; महास्त्रेण (mahāstreṇa) - with the great missile; संदधे (sandadhe) - fixed (to the bow); शत्रु-नाशनम् (śatru-nāśanam) - destroyer of enemies;]
(The son of Rukmiṇī then, an arrow having brilliance like fire and sun, having consecrated with mantra, with the great missile, fixed (to the bow) the destroyer of enemies.)
Then the son of Rukmiṇī, having consecrated an arrow as brilliant as fire and the sun with a great missile mantra, fixed the enemy-destroying shaft to his bow. (3-17-25)
स विविन्ध्याय सक्रोधः समाहूय महारथः। चिक्षेप मे सुतो राजन्स गतासुरथापतत् ॥३-१७-२६॥
sa vivindhyāya sakrodhaḥ samāhūya mahārathaḥ। cikṣepa me suto rājans gatāsur athāpatat ॥3-17-26॥
[स (sa) - he; विविन्ध्याय (vivindhyāya) - to Vivindhya; स (sa) - he; क्रोधः (krodhaḥ) - anger; समाहूय (samāhūya) - having summoned; महारथः (mahārathaḥ) - the great chariot-warrior; चिक्षेप (cikṣepa) - hurled; मे (me) - my; सुतः (sutaḥ) - son; राजन् (rājan) - O king; गतासुः (gatāsuḥ) - lifeless; अथ (atha) - then; अपतत् (apatat) - fell;]
(He, to Vivindhya, with anger, having summoned, the great chariot-warrior, hurled; my son, O king, lifeless, then, fell.)

विविन्ध्यं निहतं दृष्ट्वा तां च विक्षोभितां चमूम्। कामगेन स सौभेन शाल्वः पुनरुपागमत् ॥३-१७-२७॥
vivindhyaṃ nihataṃ dṛṣṭvā tāṃ ca vikṣobhitāṃ camūm। kāmagena sa saubhena śālvaḥ punarupāgamat ॥3-17-27॥
[विविन्ध्यं (vivindhyam) - Vivindhya; (a name); निहतं (nihatam) - slain; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; तां (tām) - that; च (ca) - and; विक्षोभितां (vikṣobhitām) - disturbed; चमूम् (camūm) - army; कामगेन (kāmagena) - by the wish-moving (vehicle); स (sa) - he; सौभेन (saubhena) - by Saubha (the flying city); शाल्वः (śālvaḥ) - Śālva (the king); पुनः (punaḥ) - again; उपागमत् (upāgamat) - approached;]
(Having seen Vivindhya slain and that army disturbed, he, Śālva, by the wish-moving Saubha, again approached.)
Seeing Vivindhya slain and his army thrown into confusion, Śālva once again approached in his flying city Saubha. (3-17-27)
ततो व्याकुलितं सर्वं द्वारकावासि तद्बलम्। दृष्ट्वा शाल्वं महाबाहो सौभस्थं पृथिवीगतम् ॥३-१७-२८॥
tato vyākulitaṃ sarvaṃ dvārakāvāsi tadbalam। dṛṣṭvā śālvaṃ mahābāho saubhasthaṃ pṛthivīgatam ॥3-17-28॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - from then; व्याकुलितं (vyākulitam) - agitated; सर्वं (sarvam) - all; द्वारकावासि (dvārakāvāsi) - Dvaraka-inhabitants; तद्बलम् (tadbalam) - that army; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; शाल्वं (śālvaṃ) - Shalva; महाबाहो (mahābāho) - O mighty-armed; सौभस्थं (saubhastham) - situated in Saubha; पृथिवीगतम् (pṛthivīgatam) - descended to earth;]
(From then, all the Dvaraka-inhabitants, that army, having seen Shalva, O mighty-armed, situated in Saubha, descended to earth.)
Then, O mighty-armed one, all the inhabitants of Dvaraka and their army became agitated when they saw Shalva, who had descended to earth from his Saubha vehicle. (3-17-28)
ततो निर्याय कौन्तेय व्यवस्थाप्य च तद्बलम्। आनर्तानां महाराज प्रद्युम्नो वाक्यमब्रवीत् ॥३-१७-२९॥
tato niryāya kaunteya vyavasthāpya ca tadbalam। ānartānāṃ mahārāja pradyumno vākyam abravīt ॥3-17-29॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - from there; निर्याय (niryāya) - having gone out; कौन्तेय (kaunteya) - O son of Kunti; व्यवस्थाप्य (vyavasthāpya) - having arranged; च (ca) - and; तत् (tat) - that; बलम् (balam) - army; आनर्तानाम् (ānartānām) - of the Anartas; महाराज (mahārāja) - O great king; प्रद्युम्नः (pradyumnaḥ) - Pradyumna; वाक्यम् (vākyam) - speech; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke;]
(From there, having gone out, O son of Kunti, having arranged and that army, of the Anartas, O great king, Pradyumna speech spoke.)
Then, O son of Kunti, after going out and arranging that army of the Anartas, Pradyumna spoke these words, O great king. (3-17-29)
सर्वे भवन्तस्तिष्ठन्तु सर्वे पश्यन्तु मां युधि। निवारयन्तं सङ्ग्रामे बलात्सौभं सराजकम् ॥३-१७-३०॥
sarve bhavantastiṣṭhantu sarve paśyantu māṃ yudhi। nivārayantaṃ saṅgrāme balātsaubhaṃ sarājakam ॥3-17-30॥

(All you may stand, all may see me in battle, preventing in the war by force Saubha with its king.)
Let all of you stand, let all see me in battle, as I prevent Saubha and its king by force in the war. (3-17-30)
अहं सौभपतेः सेनामायसैर्भुजगैरिव। धनुर्भुजविनिर्मुक्तैर्नाशयाम्यद्य यादवाः ॥३-१७-३१॥
ahaṃ saubhapateḥ senā māyasair bhujagair iva। dhanurbhuja-vinirmuktair nāśayāmi adya yādavāḥ ॥3-17-31॥
[अहं (ahaṃ) - I; सौभपतेः (saubhapateḥ) - of the lord of Saubha; सेनामायसैः (senā māyasaiḥ) - army with magical; भुजगैः (bhujagaiḥ) - serpents; इव (iva) - like; धनुर्भुजविनिर्मुक्तैः (dhanurbhuja-vinirmuktaiḥ) - released from the bow-arm; नाशयामि (nāśayāmi) - I destroy; अद्य (adya) - today; यादवाः (yādavāḥ) - the Yādavas;]
(I, of the lord of Saubha, the army with magical serpents like, with those released from the bow-arm, destroy today the Yādavas.)
Today, I will destroy the Yādavas with missiles released from my bow, just as the lord of Saubha's magical army used serpents. (3-17-31)
आश्वसध्वं न भीः कार्या सौभराडद्य नश्यति। मयाभिपन्नो दुष्टात्मा ससौभो विनशिष्यति ॥३-१७-३२॥
āśvasadhvaṃ na bhīḥ kāryā saubharāḍadya naśyati। mayābhipanno duṣṭātmā sasaubho vinaśiṣyati ॥3-17-32॥
[आश्वसध्वं (āśvasadhvaṃ) - be reassured; न (na) - not; भीः (bhīḥ) - fear; कार्या (kāryā) - should be done; सौभराट् (saubharāṭ) - king of Saubha; अद्य (adya) - today; नश्यति (naśyati) - is perishing; मया (mayā) - by me; अभिपन्नः (abhipannaḥ) - attacked; दुष्टात्मा (duṣṭātmā) - wicked-souled; ससौभः (sasaubhaḥ) - with Saubha; विनशिष्यति (vinaśiṣyati) - will be destroyed;]
(Be reassured; not fear should be done; the king of Saubha today is perishing. By me attacked, the wicked-souled with Saubha will be destroyed.)
Be reassured; do not be afraid. Today the king of Saubha is perishing. Attacked by me, the wicked-souled one along with Saubha will be destroyed. (3-17-32)
एवं ब्रुवति संहृष्टे प्रद्युम्ने पाण्डुनन्दन। विष्ठितं तद्बलं वीर युयुधे च यथासुखम् ॥३-१७-३३॥
evaṃ bruvati saṃhṛṣṭe pradyumne pāṇḍunandana। viṣṭhitaṃ tadbalaṃ vīra yuyudhe ca yathāsukham ॥3-17-33॥

(Thus, when Pradyumna, delighted, was speaking, O son of Pāṇḍu, that army, arrayed, O hero, fought as it pleased and.)
