evaṁ sambhāṣamāṇe tu dhaumye kauravanandana। lomaśaḥ sumahātejā ṛṣiḥ tatrājagāma ha ॥03-89-1॥
[एवं (evaṁ) - thus; सम्भाषमाणे (sambhāṣamāṇe) - while conversing; तु (tu) - but; धौम्ये (dhaumye) - with Dhaumya; कौरवनन्दन (kauravanandana) - O delight of the Kurus; लोमशः (lomaśaḥ) - Lomasha; सुमहातेजा (sumahātejā) - of great splendour; ऋषि (ṛṣiḥ) - sage; तत्र (tatra) - there; आजगाम (ājagāma) - came; ह (ha) - indeed;]
(Thus, while conversing but with Dhaumya, O delight of the Kurus, Lomasha, the sage of great splendour, there came indeed.)
O delight of the Kurus, as Dhaumya was thus conversing, there the sage Lomasha, who was of great splendour, indeed came. (03-89-1)
तं पाण्डवाग्रजो राजा सगणो ब्राह्मणाश्च ते। उदतिष्ठन्महाभागं दिवि शक्रमिवामराः ॥०३-८९-२॥
taṃ pāṇḍavāgrajo rājā sagaṇo brāhmaṇāś ca te। udatishṭhan mahābhāgaṃ divi śakram ivāmarāḥ ॥03-89-2॥
[तं (taṃ) - him; पाण्डवाग्रजः (pāṇḍavāgrajaḥ) - the eldest Pandava; राजा (rājā) - king; सगणः (sagaṇaḥ) - together with his attendants; ब्राह्मणाः (brāhmaṇāḥ) - the Brahmanas; च (ca) - and; ते (te) - they; उदतिष्ठन् (udatiṣṭhan) - stood up; महाभागं (mahābhāgam) - the highly fortunate; दिवि (divi) - in heaven; शक्रम् (śakram) - Indra; इव (iva) - like; अमराः (amarāḥ) - the immortals (gods);]
(Him, the eldest Pandava king, together with his attendants and the Brahmanas, they stood up, the highly fortunate, in heaven, Indra like, the immortals.)
The king, the eldest of the Pandavas, along with his attendants and the Brahmanas, all stood up for him, just as the immortals in heaven stand up for Indra. (03-89-2)
तमभ्यर्च्य यथान्यायं धर्मराजो युधिष्ठिरः। पप्रच्छागमने हेतुमटने च प्रयोजनम् ॥०३-८९-३॥
tam abhyarcya yathā-nyāyaṃ dharma-rājo yudhiṣṭhiraḥ। papraccha āgamane hetum aṭane ca prayojanam॥03-89-3॥
[तम् (tam) - him; (object pronoun); अभ्यर्च्य (abhyarcya) - having worshipped; (by showing respect); यथा-न्यायम् (yathā-nyāyam) - according to proper method; as is right; धर्मराजः (dharma-rājaḥ) - king of dharma; (Yudhiṣṭhira); युधिष्ठिरः (yudhiṣṭhiraḥ) - Yudhiṣṭhira; (proper noun); पप्रच्छ (papraccha) - asked; inquired; आगमने (āgamane) - regarding arrival; about coming; हेतुम् (hetum) - cause; reason; अटन े च (aṭane ca) - and regarding wandering; and motion; प्रयोजनम् (prayojanam) - purpose; object;]
(Him having worshipped as is right, the king of dharma, Yudhiṣṭhira, asked (the) reason for arrival and the purpose of wandering.)
Having properly worshipped him, Yudhiṣṭhira, the king of dharma, asked the reason for his arrival and the purpose of his wanderings. (03-89-3)
स पृष्टः पाण्डुपुत्रेण प्रीयमाणो महामनाः। उवाच श्लक्ष्णया वाचा हर्षयन्निव पाण्डवान् ॥०३-८९-४॥
sa pṛṣṭaḥ pāṇḍu-putreṇa prīyamāṇo mahā-manāḥ। uvāca ślakṣṇayā vācā harṣayanniva pāṇḍavān ॥03-89-4॥
[स (sa) - he; पृष्टः (pṛṣṭaḥ) - having been asked; पाण्डुपुत्रेण (pāṇḍu-putreṇa) - by the son of Pāṇḍu; प्रीयमाणः (prīyamāṇaḥ) - being pleased; महामनाः (mahā-manāḥ) - great-minded; उवाच (uvāca) - spoke; श्लक्ष्णया (ślakṣṇayā) - with gentle; वाचा (vācā) - speech; हर्षयन् (harṣayan) - delighting; इव (iva) - as if; पाण्डवान् (pāṇḍavān) - the Pāṇḍavas;]
(He, having been asked by the son of Pāṇḍu, being pleased, great-minded, spoke with gentle speech, as if delighting the Pāṇḍavas.)
He, the great-minded one, having been asked by the son of Pāṇḍu and being pleased, spoke with gentle words, as if giving joy to the Pāṇḍavas. (03-89-4)
सञ्चरन्नस्मि कौन्तेय सर्वलोकान्यदृच्छया। गतः शक्रस्य सदनं तत्रापश्यं सुरेश्वरम् ॥०३-८९-५॥
sañcarann asmi kaunteya sarvalokān yadṛcchayā। gataḥ śakrasya sadanaṃ tatrāpaśyaṃ sureśvaram॥03-89-5॥
[सञ्चरन् (sañcaran) - moving; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; कौन्तेय (kaunteya) - O son of Kunti; सर्वलोकान् (sarvalokān) - all worlds; यदृच्छया (yadṛcchayā) - by chance; गतः (gataḥ) - having gone; शक्रस्य (śakrasya) - of Śakra; सदनम् (sadanam) - residence; तत्र (tatra) - there; अपश्यम् (apaśyam) - I saw; सुरेश्वरम् (sureśvaram) - lord of the gods;]
(Moving, I am, O son of Kunti, all worlds by chance. Having gone to Śakra's residence, there I saw the lord of the gods.)
O son of Kunti, as I was moving by chance through all the worlds, I went to the abode of Śakra and there I saw the lord of the gods. (03-89-5)
तव च भ्रातरं वीरमपश्यं सव्यसाचिनम्। शक्रस्यार्धासनगतं तत्र मे विस्मयो महान् ॥ आसीत्पुरुषशार्दूल दृष्ट्वा पार्थं तथागतम् ॥०३-८९-६॥
tava ca bhrātaraṃ vīram apaśyaṃ savyasācinam। śakrasya ardhāsanagataṃ tatra me vismayo mahān॥ āsīt puruśaśārdūla dṛṣṭvā pārthaṃ tathāgatam॥03-89-6॥
[तव (tava) - of you; च (ca) - and; भ्रातरं (bhrātaram) - brother; वीरम् (vīram) - hero; अपश्यं (apaśyaṃ) - I saw; सव्यसाचिनम् (savyasācinam) - Savyasācin (ambidextrous, Arjuna); शक्रस्य (śakrasya) - of Śakra (Indra); अर्धासनगतं (ardhāsanagataṃ) - seated on half the seat; तत्र (tatra) - there; मे (me) - to me; विस्मयः (vismayaḥ) - astonishment; महान् (mahān) - great; आसीत् (āsīt) - arose; पुरुषशार्दूल (puruṣaśārdūla) - O best of men; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; पार्थम् (pārtham) - Pārtha (Arjuna); तथागतं (tathāgatam) - thus arrived;]
(Of you and brother, hero, I saw Savyasācin; of Śakra seated on half the seat, there to me astonishment great arose, O best of men, having seen Pārtha thus arrived.)
O best of men, I saw your heroic brother, Savyasācin Arjuna, seated on half the throne of Indra. There a great astonishment arose in me, having seen Pārtha in that way. (03-89-6)
आह मां तत्र देवेशो गच्छ पाण्डुसुतानिति। सोऽहमभ्यागतः क्षिप्रं दिदृक्षुस्त्वां सहानुजम् ॥०३-८९-७॥
āha māṁ tatra deveśo gaccha pāṇḍusutān iti। so'ham abhy āgataḥ kṣipraṁ didṛkṣus tvāṁ saha-anujam ॥03-89-7॥
[आह (āha) - said; माम् (mām) - to me; तत्र (tatra) - there; देवेशः (deveśaḥ) - the lord of the gods; गच्छ (gaccha) - go; पाण्डुसुतान् (pāṇḍusutān) - the sons of Pāṇḍu; इति (iti) - thus; सः (saḥ) - he; अहम् (aham) - I; अभ्यागतः (abhyāgataḥ) - having come; क्षिप्रम् (kṣipram) - quickly; दिदृक्षुः (didṛkṣuḥ) - desiring to see; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; सह (saha) - together with; अनुजम् (anujam) - your younger brother;]
(He said to me there, the lord of the gods: "Go to the sons of Pāṇḍu." Thus, I have come quickly, desiring to see you together with your younger brother.)
The lord of the gods said to me there, "Go to the sons of Pāṇḍu." Therefore, I have come quickly, wishing to see you and your younger brother. (03-89-7)
वचनात्पुरुहूतस्य पार्थस्य च महात्मनः। आख्यास्ये ते प्रियं तात महत्पाण्डवनन्दन ॥०३-८९-८॥
vacanāt puruhūtasya pārthasya ca mahātmanaḥ. ākhyā­sye te priyaṃ tāta mahat pāṇḍava­nandana ॥03-89-8॥
[वचनात् (vacanāt) - from the words; पुरुहूतस्य (puruhūtasya) - of Puruhūta (Indra); पार्थस्य (pārthasya) - of Pārtha (Arjuna); च (ca) - and; महात्मनः (mahātmanaḥ) - of the great-souled; आख्यास्ये (ākhyā­sye) - I shall recount; ते (te) - to you; प्रियं (priyaṃ) - dear; तात (tāta) - O dear one; महत् (mahat) - great; पाण्डवनन्दन (pāṇḍava­nandana) - joy of the Pāṇḍavas (Yudhiṣṭhira);]
(From the words of Puruhūta, of Pārtha and of the great-souled, I shall recount to you, O dear one, the dear, great (matter), O joy of the Pāṇḍavas.)
O joy of the Pāṇḍavas, I shall recount to you, O dear one, the great and cherished matter as spoken by Puruhūta (Indra) and the great-souled Pārtha. (03-89-8)
भ्रातृभिः सहितो राजन्कृष्णया चैव तच्छृणु। यत्त्वयोक्तो महाबाहुरस्त्रार्थं पाण्डवर्षभ ॥०३-८९-९॥
bhrātṛbhiḥ sahito rājan kṛṣṇayā caiva tac chṛṇu। yat tvayokto mahābāhur astrārthaṃ pāṇḍavarṣabha ॥03-89-9॥
[भ्रातृभिः (bhrātṛbhiḥ) - with (his) brothers; सहितः (sahitaḥ) - accompanied (together, joined); राजन् (rājan) - O king; कृष्णया (kṛṣṇayā) - with Kṛṣṇā (Draupadi); च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; तत् (tat) - that; श्रुणु (śṛṇu) - hear; यत् (yat) - what; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; उक्तः (uktaḥ) - spoken; महाबाहुः (mahābāhuḥ) - the mighty-armed one; अस्त्रार्थम् (astrārtham) - for the sake of weapons; पाण्डवर्षभ (pāṇḍava-ṛṣabha) - bull among the Pāṇḍavas;]
(With brothers accompanied, O king, with Kṛṣṇā and indeed, that hear. What by you spoken, the mighty-armed, for weapons' sake, bull among Pāṇḍavas.)
O king, accompanied by his brothers and by Kṛṣṇā, listen to that which the mighty-armed bull among the Pāṇḍavas did, for the sake of weapons, as spoken by you. (03-89-9)
तदस्त्रमाप्तं पार्थेन रुद्रादप्रतिमं महत्। यत्तद्ब्रह्मशिरो नाम तपसा रुद्रमागतम् ॥०३-८९-१०॥
tadastram āptaṃ pārthena rudrād apratimaṃ mahat। yat tad brahmaśiro nāma tapasā rudram āgatam॥03-89-10॥
[तदस्त्रं (tad astraṃ) - that missile; ाप्तं (āptam) - obtained; पार्थेन (pārthena) - by Pārtha (Arjuna); रुद्रात् (rudrāt) - from Rudra; अप्रतिमं (apratimaṃ) - unequalled; महत् (mahat) - great; यत् (yat) - that which; तत् (tat) - that; ब्रह्मशिरो (brahmaśiro) - Brahmaśiras (the Brahma-head missile); नाम (nāma) - named; तपसा (tapasā) - by austerity; रुद्रम् (rudram) - to Rudra; आगतम् (āgatam) - had come;]
(That missile, obtained by Pārtha from Rudra, unequalled and great; that which is named Brahmaśiras, by austerity had come to Rudra.)
That missile, the unmatched and great weapon called Brahmaśiras, was obtained by Pārtha (Arjuna) from Rudra, to whom it had come by austerity. (03-89-10)
अमृतादुत्थितं रौद्रं तल्लब्धं सव्यसाचिना। तत्समन्त्रं ससंहारं सप्रायश्चित्तमङ्गलम् ॥०३-८९-११॥
amṛtād utthitaṃ raudraṃ tallabdhaṃ savyasācinā। tatsamantraṃ sasaṃhāraṃ saprāyaścittamaṅgalam ॥03-89-11॥
[अमृतात् (amṛtāt) - from amṛta (nectar of immortality); उत्थितम् (utthitam) - arisen; emerged; रौद्रं (raudram) - fierce; terrible; तत् (tat) - that; लब्धं (labdham) - obtained; सव्यसाचिना (savyasācinā) - by Savyasācin (Arjuna); तत् (tat) - that; समन्त्रं (samantram) - with mantra; ससंहारं (sasaṃhāram) - with procedure of withdrawal; सप्रायश्चित्तम् (saprāyaścittam) - with atonement; मङ्गलम् (maṅgalam) - auspicious act;]
(The fierce (weapon) arisen from amṛta, that was obtained by Savyasācin; that (weapon), with mantra, with withdrawal procedure, with atonement, (and) auspicious act.)
That fierce weapon, which had arisen from the amṛta and was obtained by Savyasācin (Arjuna), along with its mantras, withdrawal procedure, atonement, and auspicious rites. (03-89-11)
वज्रं चान्यानि चास्त्राणि दण्डादीनि युधिष्ठिर। यमात्कुबेराद्वरुणादिन्द्राच्च कुरुनन्दन ॥ अस्त्राण्यधीतवान्पार्थो दिव्यान्यमितविक्रमः ॥०३-८९-१२॥
vajraṃ ca anyāni ca astrāṇi daṇḍādīni yudhiṣṭhira। yamāt kuberaād varuṇāt indrāc ca kurunandana॥ astrāṇi adhītavān pārtho divyāni amita-vikramaḥ॥03-89-12॥
[वज्रं (vajram) - thunderbolt; च (ca) - and; अन्यानि (anyāni) - other; च (ca) - and; अस्त्राणि (astrāṇi) - weapons; दण्डादीनि (daṇḍādīni) - punishments etc.; युधिष्ठिर (yudhiṣṭhira) - Yudhiṣṭhira; यमात् (yamāt) - from Yama; कुबेरात् (kuberaāt) - from Kubera; वरुणात् (varuṇāt) - from Varuṇa; इन्द्रात् (indrāt) - from Indra; च (ca) - and; कुरुनन्दन (kurunandana) - O joy of the Kurus; अस्त्राणि (astrāṇi) - weapons; अधीतवान् (adhītavān) - (he) learned; पार्थः (pārthaḥ) - Pārtha (Arjuna); दिव्यानि (divyāni) - divine; अमितविक्रमः (amita-vikramaḥ) - of immeasurable valor;]
(Thunderbolt and other weapons and punishments etc., O Yudhiṣṭhira, from Yama, from Kubera, from Varuṇa, from Indra and, O joy of the Kurus, weapons (were) learned (by) Partha, divine, of immeasurable valor. (03-89-12))
O Yudhiṣṭhira, Partha, of immeasurable valor, learned the thunderbolt and other weapons, and punishments and the rest from Yama, Kubera, Varuṇa, and Indra, O joy of the Kurus; he learned divine weapons. (03-89-12)
विश्वावसोश्च तनयाद्गीतं नृत्तं च साम च। वादित्रं च यथान्यायं प्रत्यविन्दद्यथाविधि ॥०३-८९-१३॥
viśvāvasoś ca tanayād gītaṁ nṛttaṁ ca sāma ca। vāditraṁ ca yathānyāyaṁ pratyavindad yathāvidhi॥03-89-13॥
[विश्वावसोः (viśvāvasoḥ) - of Viśvāvasu; च (ca) - and; तनयात् (tanayāt) - from the son; गीतं (gītam) - song; नृत्तं (nṛttam) - dance; च (ca) - and; साम (sāma) - chant; च (ca) - and; वादित्रं (vāditram) - instrumental music; च (ca) - and; यथान्यायं (yathānyāyam) - as proper; प्रत्यविन्दत् (pratyavindat) - he obtained; यथाविधि (yathāvidhi) - as prescribed;]
(Of Viśvāvasu and from the son, song, dance and chant, and instrumental music, as proper, he obtained as prescribed.)
He obtained from the son of Viśvāvasu, in accordance with the proper method, song, dance, chant, and instrumental music, all as prescribed. (03-89-13)
एवं कृतास्त्रः कौन्तेयो गान्धर्वं वेदमाप्तवान्। सुखं वसति बीभत्सुरनुजस्यानुजस्तव ॥०३-८९-१४॥
evaṃ kṛtāstraḥ kaunteyo gāndharvaṃ vedam āptavān। sukhaṃ vasati bhībhatsur anujasyānujas tava ॥03-89-14॥
[एवं (evaṃ) (evaṃ) - thus; कृतास्त्रः (kṛtāstraḥ) (kṛtāstraḥ) - having accomplished (mastered) weapons; कौन्तेयः (kaunteyaḥ) (kaunteyaḥ) - son of Kunti; गान्धर्वम् (gāndharvam) (gāndharvam) - Gandharva (music/art); वेदम् (vedam) (vedam) - science; आप्तवान् (āptavān) (āptavān) - attained; सुखम् (sukham) (sukham) - happily; वसति (vasati) (vasati) - dwells; बीभत्सु: (bhībhatsuḥ) (bhībhatsuḥ) - Bhībhatsu (Arjuna, name); अनुजस्य (anujasya) (anujasya) - of the younger brother; अनुज: (anujaḥ) (anujaḥ) - younger brother; तव (tava) (tava) - of yours;]
(Thus, having mastered weapons, the son of Kunti attained the Gandharva science. Bhībhatsu happily dwells, the younger brother of your younger brother.)
Thus, Kaunteya (Arjuna), having mastered weapons, obtained the Gandharva science. Bhībhatsu (Arjuna), the younger brother of your younger brother, is living happily. (03-89-14)
यदर्थं मां सुरश्रेष्ठ इदं वचनमब्रवीत्। तच्च ते कथयिष्यामि युधिष्ठिर निबोध मे ॥०३-८९-१५॥
yadarthaṃ māṃ suraśreṣṭha idaṃ vacanam abravīt। tac ca te kathayiṣyāmi yudhiṣṭhira nibodha me ॥03-89-15॥
[यदर्थं (yad-artham) - for what purpose; माम् (mām) - me; सुरश्रेष्ठ (sura-śreṣṭha) - O best of gods; इदं (idaṃ) - this; वचनम् (vacanam) - speech; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke; तत् (tat) - that; च (ca) - and; ते (te) - to you; कथयिष्यामि (kathayiṣyāmi) - I will relate; युधिष्ठिर (yudhiṣṭhira) - Yudhiṣṭhira; निबोध (nibodha) - listen; मे (me) - to me;]
(For what purpose to me, O best of gods, this speech was spoken— that also I will relate to you, Yudhiṣṭhira, listen to me.)
I will tell you, Yudhiṣṭhira, for what purpose the best of gods spoke these words to me; listen to me. (03-89-15)
भवान्मनुष्यलोकाय गमिष्यति न संशयः। ब्रूयाद्युधिष्ठिरं तत्र वचनान्मे द्विजोत्तम ॥०३-८९-१६॥
bhavān manuṣyalokāya gamiṣyati na saṃśayaḥ। brūyād yudhiṣṭhiraṃ tatra vacanān me dvijottama ॥03-89-16॥
[भवान् (bhavān) - you; (respectful pronoun); मनुष्यलोकाय (manuṣyalokāya) - to the world of men; गमिष्यति (gamiṣyati) - will go; न (na) - not; संशयः (saṃśayaḥ) - doubt; ब्रूयात् (brūyāt) - should speak; युधिष्ठिरम् (yudhiṣṭhiraṃ) - to Yudhishthira; तत्र (tatra) - there; वचनान् (vacanān) - words; मे (me) - of me; my; द्विजोत्तम (dvijottama) - O best of twice-born;]
(You to the world of men will go, not doubt. You should speak to Yudhishthira there my words, O best of twice-born.)
You will certainly go to the world of men; there, O best of twice-born, you must convey my words to Yudhishthira. (03-89-16)
आगमिष्यति ते भ्राता कृतास्त्रः क्षिप्रमर्जुनः। सुरकार्यं महत्कृत्वा यदाशक्यं दिवौकसैः ॥०३-८९-१७॥
āgamiṣyati te bhrātā kṛtāstraḥ kṣipram arjunaḥ. surakāryaṃ mahat kṛtvā yad aśakyaṃ divaukasaiḥ ॥03-89-17॥
[आगमिष्यति (āgamiṣyati) - will come; ते (te) - your; भ्राता (bhrātā) - brother; कृतास्त्रः (kṛtāstraḥ) - master of weapons; क्षिप्रम् (kṣipram) - soon; अर्जुनः (arjunaḥ) - Arjuna; सुरकार्यं (surakāryam) - godly mission; महत् (mahat) - great; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having performed; यत् (yat) - which; अशक्यम् (aśakyam) - impossible; दिवौकसैः (divaukasaiḥ) - by the dwellers of heaven;]
(Will come your brother, master of weapons, soon, Arjuna; the godly mission, great, having performed, which is impossible by the dwellers of heaven.)
Your brother Arjuna, master of weapons, will come soon—having accomplished the great mission of the gods, which even the dwellers of heaven could not achieve. (03-89-17)
तपसा तु त्वमात्मानं भ्रातृभिः सह योजय। तपसो हि परं नास्ति तपसा विन्दते महत् ॥०३-८९-१८॥
tapasā tu tvam ātmānaṃ bhrātṛbhiḥ saha yojaya। tapaso hi paraṃ nāsti tapasā vindate mahat ॥03-89-18॥
[तपसा (tapasā) - by austerity; तु (tu) - but; त्वम् (tvam) - you; आत्मानं (ātmānaṃ) - the self; भ्रातृभिः (bhrātṛbhiḥ) - with brothers; सह (saha) - together; योजय (yojaya) - unite; तपसो (tapaso) - of austerity; हि (hi) - indeed; परं (paraṃ) - higher; नास्ति (nāsti) - there is not; तपसा (tapasā) - by austerity; विन्दते (vindate) - one attains; महत् (mahat) - great (thing);]
(But by austerity you the self with brothers together unite. Of austerity indeed higher there is not; by austerity one attains great (thing).)
But by means of austerity, unite yourself together with your brothers. Indeed, there is nothing higher than austerity; by austerity one attains greatness. (03-89-18)
अहं च कर्णं जानामि यथावद्भरतर्षभ। न स पार्थस्य सङ्ग्रामे कलामर्हति षोडशीम् ॥०३-८९-१९॥
ahaṃ ca karṇaṃ jānāmi yathāvad bharatarṣabha। na sa pārthasya saṅgrāme kalām arhati ṣoḍaśīm॥03-89-19॥
[अहं (ahaṃ) - I; च (ca) - and; कर्णं (karṇam) - Karna; जानामि (jānāmi) - know; यथावत् (yathāvat) - as he truly is; भरतर्षभ (bharatarṣabha) - O bull among the Bharatas; न (na) - not; स (sa) - he; पार्थस्य (pārthasya) - of Partha (Arjuna); सङ्ग्रामे (saṅgrāme) - in battle; कलाम् (kalām) - a sixteenth part; अर्हति (arhati) - deserves; षोडशीम् (ṣoḍaśīm) - one sixteenth;]
(I and Karna I know as he truly is, O bull among the Bharatas; not he of Partha in battle a sixteenth part deserves of one sixteenth.)
O bull among the Bharatas, I know Karna as he truly is; he does not deserve even a sixteenth part of Partha in battle. (03-89-19)
यच्चापि ते भयं तस्मान्मनसिस्थमरिंदम। तच्चाप्यपहरिष्यामि सव्यसाचाविहागते ॥०३-८९-२०॥
yaccāpi te bhayaṁ tasmān manasi stham ariṁdama। taccāpy apahariṣyāmi savyasācāvi hāgate ॥03-89-20॥
[यत् च अपि (yat ca api) - and whatever; ते (te) - your; भयम् (bhayam) - fear; तस्मात् (tasmāt) - from that; मनसि (manasi) - in (your) mind; स्थम् (stham) - situated; अरिंदम (ariṁdama) - O subduer of enemies; तत् च अपि (tat ca api) - and that also; अपहरिष्यामि (apahariṣyāmi) - I shall take away; सव्यसाच (savyasāca) - O Savyasācin; अविहागत (avihāgate) - when having come here;]
(And whatever fear of yours is from that, situated in the mind, O subduer of enemies, and that also, I shall take away, O Savyasācin, when you have come here.)
O subduer of enemies, whatever fear you may have from that, which is in your mind—I shall also remove that, O Savyasācin, when you come here. (03-89-20)
यच्च ते मानसं वीर तीर्थयात्रामिमां प्रति। तच्च ते लोमशः सर्वं कथयिष्यत्यसंशयम् ॥०३-८९-२१॥
yacca te mānasaṃ vīra tīrthayātrām imāṃ prati। tacca te lomaśaḥ sarvaṃ kathayiṣyaty asaṃśayam ॥03-89-21॥
[यच्च (yacca) - and that which; ते (te) - to you; मानसं (mānasaṃ) - (is) in (your) mind; वीर (vīra) - O hero; तीर्थयात्राम् (tīrthayātrām) - (regarding) pilgrimage; इमां (imāṃ) - this; प्रति (prati) - concerning; तच्च (tacca) - that also; ते (te) - to you; लोमशः (lomaśaḥ) - Lomasha (sage); सर्वं (sarvaṃ) - all; कथयिष्यति (kathayiṣyati) - will explain; असंशयम् (asaṃśayam) - without doubt;]
(And that which to you (is) in (your) mind, O hero, regarding this pilgrimage, that also to you Lomasha all will explain without doubt.)
O hero, whatever is in your mind concerning this pilgrimage, Lomasha will fully explain all that to you without any doubt. (03-89-21)
यच्च किञ्चित्तपोयुक्तं फलं तीर्थेषु भारत। महर्षिरेष यद्ब्रूयात्तच्छ्रद्धेयमनन्यथा ॥०३-८९-२२॥
yacca kiñcittapoyuktaṃ phalaṃ tīrtheṣu bhārata। maharṣireṣa yadbrūyāttacchraddheyamananyathā ॥03-89-22॥
[यत् (yat) - which; च (ca) - and; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - any; तपः-युक्तं (tapaḥ-yuktaṃ) - endowed with asceticism; फलं (phalaṃ) - fruit; तीर्थेषु (tīrtheṣu) - in holy places; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata; महर्षि (maharṣi) - great sage; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this; यत् (yat) - which; ब्रूयात् (brūyāt) - might say; तत् (tat) - that; श्रद्धेयम् (śraddheyam) - to be believed; अनन्यथा (ananyathā) - not otherwise;]
(And whatever fruit endowed with asceticism in holy places, O Bhārata, this great sage might say, that is to be believed, not otherwise.)
O Bhārata, whatever result in holy places is spoken by this great sage as imbued with asceticism, that alone should be believed, and not otherwise. (03-89-22)
