ऋश्यशृङ्ग उवाच॥

Ṛśyaśṛṅga said.
इहागतो जटिलो ब्रह्मचारी; न वै ह्रस्वो नातिदीर्घो मनस्वी। सुवर्णवर्णः कमलायताक्षः; सुतः सुराणामिव शोभमानः ॥०३-११२-१॥
ihāgato jaṭilo brahmacārī; na vai hrasvo nātidīrgho manasvī। suvarṇavarṇaḥ kamalāyatākṣaḥ; sutaḥ surāṇām iva śobhamānaḥ ॥03-112-1॥
[इहागतः (ihāgataḥ) - he has come here; जटिलः (jaṭilaḥ) - having matted hair; ब्रह्मचारी (brahmacārī) - celibate student; न (na) - not; वै (vai) - indeed; ह्रस्वः (hrasvaḥ) - short (in stature); न (na) - not; अतिदीर्घः (atidīrghaḥ) - excessively tall; मनस्वी (manasvī) - intelligent; सुवर्णवर्णः (suvarṇavarṇaḥ) - golden-complexioned; कमलायताक्षः (kamalāyatākṣaḥ) - lotus-like wide-eyed; सुतः (sutaḥ) - son; सुराणाम् (surāṇām) - of the gods; इव (iva) - as if; शोभमानः (śobhamānaḥ) - shining; appearing splendid;]
(He who has come here, with matted hair, a celibate student; not indeed short, not excessively tall, intelligent. Golden-complexioned, lotus-like wide-eyed; son, shining as if (he were) of the gods.)
A brahmacārin with matted hair has come here; he is neither short nor overly tall, and is of keen intellect. His complexion is golden, his eyes are as wide as lotuses; he appears radiant, as if a son of the gods. (03-112-1)
समृद्धरूपः सवितेव दीप्तः; सुशुक्लकृष्णाक्षतरश्चकोरैः। नीलाः प्रसन्नाश्च जटाः सुगन्धा; हिरण्यरज्जुग्रथिताः सुदीर्घाः ॥०३-११२-२॥
samṛddharūpaḥ saviteva dīptaḥ; suśuklakṛṣṇākṣataraścakoraiḥ. nīlāḥ prasannāśca jaṭāḥ sugandhā; hiraṇyarajjugrathitāḥ sudīrghāḥ ॥03-112-2॥
[समृद्धरूपः (samṛddharūpaḥ) - of prosperous form; सवितेव (savitā iva) - like Savitṛ; दीप्तः (dīptaḥ) - shining; सुशुक्लकृष्णाक्षतरः (suśuklakṛṣṇākṣataraḥ) - whose white and black eyes are very excellent; चकोरैः (cakoraiḥ) - by Cakora birds; नीलाः (nīlāḥ) - dark-blue; प्रसन्नाः (prasannāḥ) - clear; च (ca) - and; जटाः (jaṭāḥ) - matted locks; सुगन्धा (sugandhāḥ) - fragrant; हिरण्यरज्जुग्रथिताः (hiraṇyarajju-grathitāḥ) - bound with golden cords; सुदीर्घाः (sudīrghāḥ) - very long;]
(Of prosperous form, shining like Savitṛ; whose very excellent white and black eyes are by Cakora birds. Dark-blue, clear and matted locks fragrant; bound with golden cords, very long.)
He was of prosperous form, radiant like Savitṛ; his white and black eyes were so excellent they were desired by Cakora birds. His matted locks were dark-blue, clear, and fragrant, bound with golden cords, and very long. (03-112-2)
आधाररूपा पुनरस्य कण्ठे; विभ्राजते विद्युदिवान्तरिक्षे। द्वौ चास्य पिण्डावधरेण कण्ठ; मजातरोमौ सुमनोहरौ च ॥०३-११२-३॥
ādhārarūpā punarasya kaṇṭhe; vibhrājate vidyudivāntarikṣe. dvau cāsya piṇḍāvadhareṇa kaṇṭha; majātaromau sumanoharau ca ॥03-112-3॥
[आधाररूपा (ādhārarūpā) - having the form of a base; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; अस्य (asya) - of him; कण्ठे (kaṇṭhe) - at the neck; विभ्राजते (vibhrājate) - shines; विद्युति (vidyuti) - like lightning; इव (iva) - as if; अन्तरिक्षे (antarikṣe) - in the sky; द्वौ (dvau) - two; च (ca) - and; अस्य (asya) - of him; पिण्डौ (piṇḍau) - the two lumps; अधरेण (adhareṇa) - at the lower part; कण्ठ (kaṇṭha) - from the neck; मजा-तरौ (majā-tarou) - the two fleshy; रोमौ (romau) - hair; सुमनोहरौ (sumanoharau) - very beautiful; च (ca) - and;]
(Having the form of a base again at his neck, shines as if lightning in the sky. Two, also of him, lumps at the lower part of the neck, the two fleshy hairs, very beautiful and also.)
Again, at his neck, something of the form of a base shines as if lightning in the sky. And he has two soft, very beautiful lumps covered with hair at the lower part of his neck. (03-112-3)
विलग्नमध्यश्च स नाभिदेशे; कटिश्च तस्यातिकृतप्रमाणा। तथास्य चीरान्तरिता प्रभाति; हिरण्मयी मेखला मे यथेयम् ॥०३-११२-४॥
vilagnamadhyaś ca sa nābhideśe; kaṭiś ca tasyātikṛtapramāṇā. tathāsya cīrāntaritā prabhāti; hiraṇmayī mekhalā me yatheyam ॥03-112-4॥
[विलग्नमध्यः (vilagnamadhyaḥ) - with a slender waist; च (ca) - and; सः (saḥ) - he; नाभिदेशे (nābhideśe) - in the region of the navel; कटिः (kaṭiḥ) - hip; च (ca) - and; तस्य (tasya) - his; अतिकृतप्रमाणा (atikṛtapramāṇā) - exceedingly proportioned; तथा (tathā) - thus; अस्य (asya) - his; चीरान्तरिता (cīrāntaritā) - girdled with cloth; प्रभाति (prabhāti) - shines; हिरण्मयी (hiraṇmayī) - made of gold; मेखला (mekhalā) - girdle; मे (me) - my; यथा (yathā) - like; इयम् (iyam) - this;]
(With a slender middle and he in the navel region; and the hip of his exceedingly proportioned. Thus his cloth-girdled shines; a golden girdle, my, as this.)
His waist is slender and, in the region of his navel, his hips are exceedingly well proportioned. Thus, girdled with cloth, a golden belt shines upon him—like this one of mine. (03-112-4)
अन्यच्च तस्याद्भुतदर्शनीयं; विकूजितं पादयोः सम्प्रभाति। पाण्योश्च तद्वत्स्वनवन्निबद्धौ; कलापकावक्षमाला यथेयम् ॥०३-११२-५॥
anyacca tasyādbhutadarśanīyaṃ; vikūjitaṃ pādayoḥ samprabhāti. pāṇyośca tadvatsvanavannibaddhau; kalāpakāvakṣamālā yatheyam ॥03-112-5॥
[अन्यच्च (anyacca) - and also another; तस्य (tasya) - of him; अद्भुतदर्शनीयं (adbhutadarśanīyam) - wonderful to behold; विकूजितं (vikūjitam) - resounding; पादयोः (pādayoḥ) - at the feet; सम्प्रभाति (samprabhāti) - shines forth; पाण्योः (pāṇyoḥ) - at the hands; च (ca) - and; तद्वत् (tadvat) - likewise; सुनवन् (suvan) - pleasing sound; निबद्धौ (nibaddhau) - adorned; कलापकौ (kalāpakau) - Kalāpaka flowers; अक्षमाला (akṣamālā) - rosary; यथा (yathā) - like; इयम् (iyam) - this;]
(And also another, of him wonderful to behold; resounding at the feet shines forth. At the hands and likewise pleasing sound adorned; Kalāpaka rosary like this.)
Furthermore, there is another (feature) of him, wonderful to behold; a melodious sound radiates from his feet. Similarly, both of his hands are adorned with rosaries of Kalāpaka flowers, like this string of beads. (03-112-5)
विचेष्टमानस्य च तस्य तानि; कूजन्ति हंसा सरसीव मत्ताः। चीराणि तस्याद्भुतदर्शनानि; नेमानि तद्वन्मम रूपवन्ति ॥०३-११२-६॥
viceṣṭamānasya ca tasya tāni; kūjanti haṃsā sarasīva mattāḥ. cīrāṇi tasyādbhutadarśanāni; nemāni tadvanmama rūpavanti ॥03-112-6॥
[विचेष्टमानस्य (viceṣṭamānasya) - moving; of (the one) acting; of the moving; च (ca) - and; तस्य (tasya) - his; तानि (tāni) - those; कूजन्ति (kūjanti) - cry; make (calling) sounds; हंसा (haṃsā) - swans; सरसीव (sarasīva) - like in a lake; मत्ताः (mattāḥ) - intoxicated; excited; चीराणि (cīrāṇi) - bark-garments; garments of bark; तस्य (tasya) - his; अद्भुतदर्शनानि (adbhutadarśanāni) - wonderful in appearance; न (na) - not; इमानी (imāni) - these; तद्वत् (tadvat) - like those; मम (mama) - my; रूपवन्ति (rūpavanti) - beautiful; endowed with form;]
(And of the moving (one), his those (things); swans, like intoxicated (ones) in a lake, cry. His bark-garments, wonderful in appearance; not these, like those, my (are) beautiful.)
And, as for him who was in motion, those (garments of his); swans, intoxicated, cry as if in a lake. His bark-garments, wonderful in appearance—these of mine are not as beautiful as his. (03-112-6)
वक्त्रं च तस्याद्भुतदर्शनीयं; प्रव्याहृतं ह्लादयतीव चेतः। पुंस्कोकिलस्येव च तस्य वाणी; तां शृण्वतो मे व्यथितोऽन्तरात्मा ॥०३-११२-७॥
vaktraṃ ca tasyādbhuta-darśanīyaṃ; pravyāhṛtaṃ hlādayatīva cetaḥ. puṃs-kokilasyeva ca tasya vāṇī; tāṃ śṛṇvato me vyathito'ntarātmā ॥03-112-7॥
[वक्त्रं (vaktram) - face; च (ca) - and; तस्य (tasya) - his; अद्भुतदर्शनीयं (adbhuta-darśanīyam) - wondrous-to-be-seen; प्रव्याहृतं (pravyāhṛtam) - uttered; ह्लादयतीव (hlādayatīva) - as if gladdening; चेतः (cetaḥ) - mind; पुंस्कोकिलस्येव (puṃs-kokilasyeva) - like (the call) of a male cuckoo; च (ca) - and; तस्य (tasya) - his; वाणी (vāṇī) - speech; तां (tām) - that (speech); शृण्वतः (śṛṇvataḥ) - hearing; मे (me) - my; व्यथितः (vyathitaḥ) - afflicted; अन्तरात्मा (antarātmā) - inner self;]
(And his face, wondrous to behold, when uttered, seems to gladden the mind. And his speech, like the song of a male cuckoo; hearing that, my inner self is afflicted.)
And his face is wondrous to see, and his uttered words seem to delight the mind. His speech is like the song of a male cuckoo; hearing it, my heart is troubled. (03-112-7)
यथा वनं माधवमासि मध्ये; समीरितं श्वसनेनाभिवाति। तथा स वात्युत्तमपुण्यगन्धी; निषेव्यमाणः पवनेन तात ॥०३-११२-८॥
yathā vanaṁ mādhavam āsi madhye; samīritaṁ śvasanenābhivāti. tathā sa vāty uttamapuṇyagandhī; niṣevyamāṇaḥ pavanena tāta ॥03-112-8॥
[यथा (yathā) - just as; वनम् (vanam) - forest; माधवम् (mādhavam) - mādhava-flower; आसि (āsi) - is; मध्ये (madhye) - in the middle; समीरितम् (samīritam) - made fragrant; श्वसनेन (śvasanena) - by the wind; अभिवाति (abhivāti) - blows, brings (smell); तथा (tathā) - so; सः (saḥ) - he; वाति (vāti) - breathes, spreads (fragrance); उत्तमपुण्यगन्धी (uttamapuṇyagandhī) - possessing excellent auspicious fragrance; निषेव्यमाणः (niṣevyamāṇaḥ) - being enjoyed; पवनेन (pavanena) - by the wind; तात (tāta) - dear father;]
(Just as in the middle of the forest the mādhava-flower, made fragrant, by the wind is blown, so he, possessing excellent auspicious fragrance, being enjoyed by the wind, dear father.)
Just as, dear father, in the midst of the forest the fragrance of the mādhava flower is carried and spread by the wind, so does his supreme virtuous fragrance spread as it is enjoyed by the wind. (03-112-8)
सुसंयताश्चापि जटा विभक्ता; द्वैधीकृता भान्ति समा ललाटे। कर्णौ च चित्रैरिव चक्रवालैः; समावृतौ तस्य सुरूपवद्भिः ॥०३-११२-९॥
susaṃyatāś cāpi jaṭā vibhaktā; dvaidhīkṛtā bhānti samā lalāṭe. karṇau ca citrair iva cakravālaiḥ; samāvṛtau tasya surūpavadbhiḥ ॥03-112-9॥
[सुसंयताः (susaṃyatāḥ) - well-restrained; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; जटा (jaṭā) - matted locks; विभक्ता (vibhaktā) - parted; द्वैधीकृता (dvaidhīkṛtā) - divided into two; भान्ति (bhānti) - shine; समा (samā) - evenly; ललाटे (lalāṭe) - on (the) forehead; कर्णौ (karṇau) - the (two) ears; च (ca) - and; चित्रैः (citraiḥ) - with variegated; इव (iva) - like; चक्रवालैः (cakravālaiḥ) - with circular ornaments; समावृतौ (samāvṛtau) - well-covered; तस्य (tasya) - his; सुरूपवद्भिः (surūpavadbhiḥ) - with beautiful ones;]
(Well-restrained also matted locks parted, divided into two, shine evenly on the forehead. The ears also with variegated, like circular ornaments, are well-covered by his beautiful ones.)
His well-kept matted locks, parted and divided in two, shine evenly upon his forehead; and his ears are adorned, as if with variegated circular ornaments, being well-covered by handsome ornaments. (03-112-9)
तथा फलं वृत्तमथो विचित्रं; समाहनत्पाणिना दक्षिणेन। तद्भूमिमासाद्य पुनः पुनश्च; समुत्पतत्यद्भुतरूपमुच्चैः ॥०३-११२-१०॥
tathā phalaṃ vṛttam atho vicitraṃ; samāhanat pāṇinā dakṣiṇena. tad bhūmim āsādya punaḥ punaś ca; samutpatat yadbhutarūpam uccaiḥ ॥03-112-10॥
[तथा (tathā) - in that way; फलं (phalaṃ) - fruit; वृत्तम् (vṛttam) - round; अथ (atha) - then; विचित्रम् (vicitram) - wonderful; समाहनत् (samāhanat) - struck; पाणिना (pāṇinā) - with (his) hand; दक्षिणेन (dakṣiṇena) - right; तत् (tat) - that; भूमिम् (bhūmim) - ground; आसाद्य (āsādya) - having reached; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; च (ca) - and; समुत्पतत् (samutpatat) - leaping up; अद्भुतरूपम् (adbhutarūpam) - wondrous appearance; उच्चैः (uccaiḥ) - high;]
(Thus fruit round then wonderful struck with (his) right hand. That ground having reached again again and leaping up wondrous appearance high.)
In this way, he struck the round and wonderful fruit with his right hand. That fruit, having reached the ground again and again, leaped up in a wondrous form to a great height. (03-112-10)
तच्चापि हत्वा परिवर्ततेऽसौ; वातेरितो वृक्ष इवावघूर्णः। तं प्रेक्ष्य मे पुत्रमिवामराणां; प्रीतिः परा तात रतिश्च जाता ॥०३-११२-११॥
taccāpi hatvā parivartate'sau; vāterito vṛkṣa ivāvaghūrṇaḥ. taṃ prekṣya me putramivāmarāṇāṃ; prītiḥ parā tāta ratiś ca jātā ॥03-112-11॥
[तत् (tat) - that; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; हत्वा (hatvā) - having slain; परिवर्तते (parivartate) - rolls around; turns; असौ (asau) - he; वात-इरितः (vāta-iritaḥ) - set in motion by wind; वृक्षः (vṛkṣaḥ) - tree; इव (iva) - like; अवघूर्णः (avaghūrṇaḥ) - tossed about; whirling; तम् (tam) - him; प्रेक्ष्य (prekṣya) - having seen; मे (me) - my; पुत्रम् (putram) - son; इव (iva) - like; अमराणाम् (amarāṇām) - of the immortals; of the gods; प्रीतिः (prītiḥ) - delight; joy; परा (parā) - supreme; तात (tāta) - O dear one; father; रतिः (ratiḥ) - pleasure; च (ca) - and; जाता (jātā) - was produced; arose;]
(That and also having slain, he rolls around; like a tree set in motion by wind, tossed about. Having seen him, my son, like of the immortals, supreme delight, O dear one, and pleasure was produced.)
And even after having slain (his foe), he (the enemy) rolls about like a tree tossed by the wind. Seeing him—my son, like the son of the immortals—supreme joy and pleasure arose in me, O dear one. (03-112-11)
स मे समाश्लिष्य पुनः शरीरं; जटासु गृह्याभ्यवनाम्य वक्त्रम्। वक्त्रेण वक्त्रं प्रणिधाय शब्दं; चकार तन्मेऽजनयत्प्रहर्षम् ॥०३-११२-१२॥
sa me samāśliṣya punaḥ śarīraṃ; jaṭāsu gṛhyābhyavanāmya vaktram. vaktreṇa vaktraṃ praṇidhāya śabdaṃ; cakāra tan me'janayat praharṣam ॥03-112-12॥
[स (sa) - he; (that one); मे (me) - to me; (for me); समाश्लिष्य (samāśliṣya) - having embraced; (enfolded closely); पुनः (punaḥ) - again; शरीरं (śarīraṃ) - body; (person); जटासु (jaṭāsu) - on matted locks; गृह्य (gṛhya) - having grasped; (having taken hold of); अभ्यवनाम्य (abhyavanāmya) - having bent down; (caused to bow); वक्त्रम् (vaktram) - face; (mouth); वक्त्रेण (vaktreṇa) - with (his) face; (by means of face); वक्त्रं (vaktraṃ) - (my) face; (mouth); प्रणिधाय (praṇidhāya) - having placed closely; (having pressed); शब्दं (śabdaṃ) - sound; चकार (cakāra) - he made; (he uttered); तत् (tat) - that; (it); मे (me) - to me; (for me); अजनयत् (ajanayat) - generated; (produced); प्रहर्षम् (praharṣam) - delight; (joy);]
(He, having embraced me again, (my) body; having grasped (my head) on the matted locks, having bent down the face, with his face having placed closely (to) my face, made a sound; that produced delight for me.)
He embraced me again, holding my body; he took hold of my head by the matted locks, bent down his face and placed it close to mine; then, making a sound, he caused great joy in me. (03-112-12)
न चापि पाद्यं बहु मन्यतेऽसौ; फलानि चेमानि मयाहृतानि। एवंव्रतोऽस्मीति च मामवोच; त्फलानि चान्यानि नवान्यदान्मे ॥०३-११२-१३॥
na cāpi pādyaṃ bahu manyate'sau; phalāni cemāni mayāhṛtāni. evaṃvrato'smīti ca māmavoca; tphalāni cānyāni navānyadānme ॥03-112-13॥
[न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; पाद्यं (pādyaṃ) - water for feet; बहु (bahu) - much; मन्यते (manyate) - considers; असौ (asau) - he; फलानि (phalāni) - fruits; च (ca) - and; इमानि (imāni) - these; मया (mayā) - by me; आहृतानि (āhṛtāni) - brought; एवंव्रतः (evaṃvrataḥ) - thus-vowed; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; इति (iti) - thus; च (ca) - and; माम् (mām) - to me; अवोचत् (avocat) - said; फलानि (phalāni) - fruits; च (ca) - and; अन्यानि (anyāni) - other; नवानि (navāni) - new; अदात् (adāt) - gave; मे (me) - to me;]
(Not also does he consider water for feet much; and these fruits brought by me. 'Thus is my vow' thus to me he said; and gave me other new fruits.)
He does not value the water for feet highly, nor these fruits I have brought. He said to me, 'This is my vow,' and gave me other new fruits. (03-112-13)
मयोपयुक्तानि फलानि तानि; नेमानि तुल्यानि रसेन तेषाम्। न चापि तेषां त्वगियं यथैषां; साराणि नैषामिव सन्ति तेषाम् ॥०३-११२-१४॥
mayopayuktāni phalāni tāni; nemāni tulyāni rasena teṣām। na cāpi teṣāṃ tvag iyaṃ yatha eṣām; sārāṇi naiṣām iva santi teṣām ॥03-112-14॥
[मया (mayā) (mayā) - by me; उपयुक्तानि (upayuktāni) (upayuktāni) - utilized; consumed; फलानि (phalāni) (phalāni) - fruits; तानि (tāni) (tāni) - those; न (na) (na) - not; इमानि (imāni) (imāni) - these; तुल्यानि (tulyāni) (tulyāni) - equal; रसेन (rasena) (rasena) - in taste; with juice; तेषाम् (teṣām) (teṣām) - of them; न (na) (na) - not; च (ca) (ca) - and; अपि (api) (api) - also; तेषाम् (teṣām) (teṣām) - of them; त्वक् (tvak) (tvak) - skin; इयम् (iyam) (iyam) - this; यथा (yathā) (yathā) - like; as; एषाम् (eṣām) (eṣām) - of these; साराणि (sārāṇi) (sārāṇi) - essences; substantial parts; न (na) (na) - not; एषाम् (eṣām) (eṣām) - of these; इव (iva) (iva) - as; like; सन्ति (santi) (santi) - are; तेषाम् (teṣām) (teṣām) - of them;]
(Those fruits utilized by me; these are not equal to them in taste. Nor also is this skin of theirs like that of these; their essences are not like those of these, of them.)
The fruits I have consumed—these here are not equal to them in taste. Nor is this skin of theirs as it is with these; their essence is not as it is with these. (03-112-14)
तोयानि चैवातिरसानि मह्यं; प्रादात्स वै पातुमुदाररूपः। पीत्वैव यान्यभ्यधिकः प्रहर्षो; ममाभवद्भूश्चलितेव चासीत् ॥०३-११२-१५॥
toyāni caiva atirasāni mahyaṁ; prādāt sa vai pātuṁ udārarūpaḥ। pītvā eva yāni abhyadhikaḥ praharṣaḥ; mama abhavat bhūḥ calitā iva ca āsīt ॥03-112-15॥
[तोयानि (toyāni) - those waters; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; अतिरसानि (atirasāni) - exceedingly tasteful; मह्यम् (mahyaṁ) - to me; प्रादात् (prādāt) - he gave; सः (saḥ) - he; वै (vai) - indeed; पातुम् (pātum) - to drink; उदाररूपः (udārarūpaḥ) - noble in form; पीत्वा (pītvā) - having drunk; एव (eva) - indeed; यानि (yāni) - which; अभ्यधिकः (abhyadhikaḥ) - exceeding; प्रहर्षः (praharṣaḥ) - joy; मम (mama) - to me; अभवत् (abhavat) - arose; भूः (bhūḥ) - earth; चलिता (calitā) - shaking; इव (iva) - as if; च (ca) - and; आसीत् (āsīt) - was;]
(Those waters and indeed exceedingly tasteful to me he gave; he, indeed noble in form, to drink. Having drunk indeed which exceeding joy to me arose; the earth as if shaking also was.)
He, who was noble in form, gave me those waters—exceedingly delicious—to drink. Upon drinking them, a great joy arose in me, and it seemed as if the earth was shaking. (03-112-15)
इमानि चित्राणि च गन्धवन्ति; माल्यानि तस्योद्ग्रथितानि पट्टैः। यानि प्रकीर्येह गतः स्वमेव; स आश्रमं तपसा द्योतमानः ॥०३-११२-१६॥
imāni citrāṇi ca gandhavanti; mālyāni tasyodgrathitāni paṭṭaiḥ. yāni prakīryeha gataḥ svameva; sa āśramaṃ tapasā dyotamānaḥ ॥03-112-16॥
[इमानि (imāni) - these (neuter plural); चित्राणि (citrāṇi) - variegated (things); च (ca) - and; गन्धवन्ति (gandhavanti) - fragrant; माल्यानि (mālyāni) - garlands; तस्य (tasya) - his; उद्ग्रथितानि (udgrathitāni) - unfastened; पट्टैः (paṭṭaiḥ) - with bands; यानि (yāni) - which (neuter plural); प्रकीर्य (prakīrya) - scattering; इह (iha) - here; गतः (gataḥ) - gone; स्वमेव (svam eva) - by himself; स (sa) - he; आश्रमं (āśramam) - hermitage; तपसा (tapasā) - by austerity; द्योतमानः (dyotamānaḥ) - shining;]
(These variegated and fragrant garlands of his unfastened with bands, which scattering here having gone by himself, he (shining) to the hermitage by austerity.)
He, shining with austerity, having scattered here these variegated and fragrant garlands of his, unfastened with bands, went by himself to the hermitage. (03-112-16)
गतेन तेनास्मि कृतो विचेता; गात्रं च मे सम्परितप्यतीव। इच्छामि तस्यान्तिकमाशु गन्तुं; तं चेह नित्यं परिवर्तमानम् ॥०३-११२-१७॥
gatena tenāsmi kṛto vicetā; gātraṃ ca me samparitapyatīva. icchāmi tasyāntikam āśu gantum; taṃ ceha nityaṃ parivartamānam ॥03-112-17॥
[गतेन (gatena) - by the one who has gone; by the departed; तेन (tena) - by him; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; कृतः (kṛtaḥ) - made; rendered; विचेता (vicetā) - dispossessed of sense; bewildered; गात्रम् (gātram) - body; च (ca) - and; मे (me) - my; सम्परितप्य (samparitapya) - utterly scorched; excessively tormented; अतीव (atīva) - exceedingly; इच्छामि (icchāmi) - I wish; तस्य (tasya) - to him; अन्तिकम् (antikam) - nearness; proximity; आशु (āśu) - quickly; गन्तुम् (gantum) - to go; तम् (tam) - him; च (ca) - and; इह (iha) - here; नित्यम् (nityam) - always; परिवर्तमानम् (parivartamānam) - moving about; revolving;]
(By him who has gone, I am made bewildered; my body also is exceedingly scorched. I wish quickly to go to his proximity; and him always moving about here.)
I have become bewildered by him who has departed; my body is greatly tormented. I desire to swiftly reach his presence—him who is ever moving about here. (03-112-17)
गच्छामि तस्यान्तिकमेव तात; का नाम सा व्रतचर्या च तस्य। इच्छाम्यहं चरितुं तेन सार्धं; यथा तपः स चरत्युग्रकर्मा ॥०३-११२-१८॥
gacchāmi tasyāntikameva tāta; kā nāma sā vratacaryā ca tasya. icchāmyahaṃ carituṃ tena sārdhaṃ; yathā tapaḥ sa caratyugrakarmā ॥03-112-18॥
[गच्छामि (gacchāmi) - I go; तस्य (tasya) - his; अन्तिकम् (antikam) - proximity; एव (eva) - indeed; तात (tāta) - O father; का (kā) - what; नाम (nāma) - indeed; सा (sā) - that; व्रतचर्या (vratacaryā) - vow-practice; च (ca) - and; तस्य (tasya) - his; इच्छामि (icchāmi) - I wish; अहम् (aham) - I; चरितुम् (caritum) - to observe; तेन (tena) - with him; सार्धम् (sārdham) - together; यथा (yathā) - as; तपः (tapaḥ) - austerity; स (sa) - he; चरति (carati) - practices; उग्रकर्मा (ugrakarmā) - performer of severe acts;]
(I go indeed to his proximity, O father; what indeed is that vow-practice of his? I wish to observe together with him, as he practices austerity, performer of severe acts.)
O father, I will go right to him; what indeed is that vow-practice of his? I wish to undertake it together with him, as he, the performer of severe acts, practices his austerity. (03-112-18)
