Vibhāṇḍaka said.
रक्षांसि चैतानि चरन्ति पुत्र; रूपेण तेनाद्भुतदर्शनेन। अतुल्यरूपाण्यतिघोरवन्ति; विघ्नं सदा तपसश्चिन्तयन्ति ॥०३-११३-१॥
rakṣāṃsi caitāni caranti putra; rūpeṇa tenād-bhuta-darśanena. atulya-rūpāṇy-atighoravanti; vighnaṃ sadā tapasaś-cintayanti ॥03-113-1॥
[रक्षांसि (rakṣāṃsi) - demons; च (ca) - and; एतानि (etāni) - these; चरन्ति (caranti) - move about; पुत्र (putra) - son; रूपेण (rūpeṇa) - by form; तेन (tena) - with that; अद्भुतदर्शनेन (adbhuta-darśanena) - of wondrous appearance; अतुल्यरूपाणि (atulya-rūpāṇi) - having incomparable forms; अतिघोरवन्ति (ati-ghoravanti) - very-terrible ones; विघ्नं (vighnam) - obstacle; सदा (sadā) - always; तपसः (tapasaḥ) - of austerity; चिन्तयन्ति (cintayanti) - they scheme;]
(Demons and these move about, son; by form, with that wondrous appearance. Incomparable forms, very-terrible ones; obstacle always of austerity they scheme. (03-113-1))
Son, these demons with their most wonderful appearance move about; with incomparable, extremely terrible forms, they are always plotting obstacles to austerity. (03-113-1)
सुरूपरूपाणि च तानि तात; प्रलोभयन्ते विविधैरुपायैः। सुखाच्च लोकाच्च निपातयन्ति; तान्युग्रकर्माणि मुनीन्वनेषु ॥०३-११३-२॥
surūparūpāṇi ca tāni tāta; pralobhayante vividhairupāyaiḥ. sukhācca lokācca nipātayanti; tānyugrakarmāṇi munīn vaneṣu ॥03-113-2॥
[सुरूपरूपाणि (surūparūpāṇi) - beautiful forms; च (ca) - and; तानि (tāni) - those; तात (tāta) - dear one; प्रलोभयन्ते (pralobhayante) - they entice; विविधैः (vividhaiḥ) - by various; उपायैः (upāyaiḥ) - means; सुखात् (sukhāt) - from happiness; च (ca) - and; लोकात् (lokāt) - from the world; च (ca) - and; निपातयन्ति (nipātayanti) - they make fall; तानि (tāni) - those; उग्रकर्माणि (ugrakarmāṇi) - of fierce actions; मुनीन् (munīn) - sages; वनेषु (vaneṣu) - in the forests;]
(Beautiful forms and those, dear one, they entice by various means. And from happiness and from the world, they make (sages) fall; those of fierce actions, sages in the forests.)
Those beautiful forms, dear one, entice (even sages) in the forests by various means; and by their fierce actions, they cause sages to fall from happiness and from their spiritual world. (03-113-2)
न तानि सेवेत मुनिर्यतात्मा; सतां लोकान्प्रार्थयानः कथञ्चित्। कृत्वा विघ्नं तापसानां रमन्ते; पापाचारास्तपसस्तान्यपाप ॥०३-११३-३॥
na tāni seveta munir yatātmā; satāṃ lokān prārthayānaḥ kathañcit. kṛtvā vighnaṃ tāpasānāṃ ramante; pāpācārās tapasas tāny apāpa ॥03-113-3॥
[न (na) - not; तानि (tāni) - those; सेवेत (seveta) - should seek/interact with; मुनिः (muniḥ) - sage; यतात्मा (yatātmā) - self-controlled; सतां (satām) - of the virtuous; लोकान् (lokān) - worlds; प्रार्थयानः (prārthayānaḥ) - longing for; कथञ्चित् (kathañcit) - by any means; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having caused; विघ्नम् (vighnam) - obstacle; तापसानाम् (tāpasānām) - of ascetics; रमन्ते (ramante) - they delight; पापाचाराः (pāpācārāḥ) - those who behave viciously; तपसः (tapasas) - with regard to austerity; तानि (tāni) - those; अपाप (apāpa) - not (for) the wicked.;]
(Not those should the self-controlled sage seek; the worlds of the virtuous, longing for by any means. Having caused obstacle to ascetics, those who behave viciously delight with regard to those austerities, not (for) the wicked.)
A self-disciplined sage should not pursue such things: in longing for the realms belonging to the virtuous by any means, the vicious delight in obstructing the ascetics' austerities, but those worlds are not for the wicked. (03-113-3)
असज्जनेनाचरितानि पुत्र; पापान्यपेयानि मधूनि तानि। माल्यानि चैतानि न वै मुनीनां; स्मृतानि चित्रोज्ज्वलगन्धवन्ति ॥०३-११३-४॥
asajjanenācaritāni putra; pāpānyapeyāni madhūni tāni. mālyāni caitāni na vai munīnāṃ; smṛtāni citrojjvalagandhavanti ॥03-113-4॥
[असज्जनेन (asajjanena) - by a wicked person; आचरितानि (ācaritāni) - done; performed; पुत्र (putra) - O son; पापानि (pāpāni) - evil acts; अपेयानि (apeyāni) - to be discarded; मधूनि (madhūni) - sweets; honey; तानि (tāni) - those; माल्यानि (mālyāni) - garlands; च (ca) - and; एतानि (etāni) - these; न (na) - not; वै (vai) - indeed; मुनीनाम् (munīnāṃ) - of sages; स्मृतानि (smṛtāni) - remembered; considered; चित्र (citra) - wonderful; उज्ज्वल (ujjvala) - bright; गन्धवन्ति (gandhavanti) - fragrant;]
(O son, those acts done by a wicked person are evil, to be discarded like honey; these garlands, too, though wonderfully and brightly fragrant, are not indeed remembered by sages.)
O son, acts performed by bad people are to be shunned like honey tainted by evil; and these garlands, however wonderfully and brightly fragrant they may be, are not considered worthy by sages. (03-113-4)
लोमश उवाच॥

रक्षांसि तानीति निवार्य पुत्रं; विभाण्डकस्तां मृगयां बभूव। नासादयामास यदा त्र्यहेण; तदा स पर्याववृतेऽऽश्रमाय ॥०३-११३-५॥
rakṣāṃsi tānīti nivārya putraṃ; vibhāṇḍakastāṃ mṛgayāṃ babhūva. nāsādayāmāsa yadā tryaheṇa; tadā sa paryāvavṛte''śramāya ॥03-113-5॥
[रक्षांसि (rakṣāṃsi) - evil beings; तानि (tāni) - those; इति (iti) - thus; निवार्य (nivārya) - having warded off; पुत्रं (putraṃ) - son; विभाण्डकः (vibhāṇḍakaḥ) - Vibhāṇḍaka; तां (tāṃ) - that; मृगयाम् (mṛgayām) - hunting; बभूव (babhūva) - engaged in; न (na) - not; असादयामास (asādayāmāsa) - obtained; यदा (yadā) - when; त्र्यहेण (tryaheṇa) - in three days; तदा (tadā) - then; सः (saḥ) - he; पर्याववृते (paryāvavṛte) - returned; आश्रमाय (āśramāya) - to the āśrama;]
(Evil beings those—thus having warded off (his) son, Vibhāṇḍaka that hunting engaged. Not obtained when in three days, then he returned to the āśrama.)
Having thus warded off those evil beings from his son, Vibhāṇḍaka engaged in that hunt. When he did not obtain (his object) in three days, he then returned to the āśrama. (03-113-5)
यदा पुनः काश्यपो वै जगाम; फलान्याहर्तुं विधिना श्रामणेन। तदा पुनर्लोभयितुं जगाम; सा वेशयोषा मुनिमृश्यशृङ्गम् ॥०३-११३-६॥
yadā punaḥ kāśyapo vai jagāma; phalāny āhartuṃ vidhinā śrāmaṇena। tadā punar lobhayituṃ jagāma; sā veśayoṣā munim ṛśyaśṛṅgam ॥03-113-6॥
[यदा (yadā) - when; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; काश्यपः (kāśyapaḥ) - Kashyapa (the sage); वै (vai) - indeed; जगाम (jagāma) - went; फलानि (phalāni) - fruits; आहर्तुं (āhartuṃ) - to bring; विधिना (vidhinā) - in accordance with the rule; श्रामणेन (śrāmaṇena) - like an ascetic; तदा (tadā) - then; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; लोभयितुं (lobhayituṃ) - to allure; जगाम (jagāma) - went; सा (sā) - she; वेशयोषा (veśayoṣā) - courtesan; मुनिम् (munim) - to the sage; ऋश्यशृङ्गम् (ṛśyaśṛṅgam) - Rishyashringa;]
(When again Kashyapa indeed went to bring fruits in accordance with the rule like an ascetic, then again to allure went she, the courtesan, to the sage Rishyashringa.)
When Kashyapa once again went, like an ascetic, to collect fruits according to the rule, then the courtesan again went to entice the sage Rishyashringa. (03-113-6)
दृष्ट्वैव तामृश्यशृङ्गः प्रहृष्टः; सम्भ्रान्तरूपोऽभ्यपतत्तदानीम्। प्रोवाच चैनां भवतोऽऽश्रमाय; गच्छाव यावन्न पिता ममैति ॥०३-११३-७॥
dṛṣṭvaiva tām ṛśyaśṛṅgaḥ prahṛṣṭaḥ; sambhrāntarūpo'bhyapatat tadānīm. provāca ca enāṃ bhavato'śramāya; gacchāva yāvan na pitā mama iti. (03-113-7)
[दृष्ट्वैव (dṛṣṭvaiva) - having seen — just then; ताम् (tām) - her; ऋश्यशृङ्गः (ṛśyaśṛṅgaḥ) - Ṛśyaśṛṅga; प्रहृष्टः (prahṛṣṭaḥ) - gladdened; delighted; सम्भ्रान्तरूपः (sambhrāntarūpaḥ) - with an appearance of agitation; अभ्यपतत् (abhyapatat) - he approached; तदानीम् (tadānīm) - at that time; प्रोवाच (provāca) - he said; च (ca) - and; एनाम् (enām) - to her; भवतः (bhavataḥ) - your; आश्रमाय (āśramāya) - to (your) hermitage; गच्छाव (gacchāva) - let us go; यावत् (yāvat) - as long as; न (na) - not; पिता (pitā) - my father; मम (mama) - my; इति (iti) - thus;]
(Having just seen her, Ṛśyaśṛṅga, delighted, with an appearance of agitation, approached at that time. And he said to her: 'Let us go to your hermitage, as long as my father does not (know),' thus.)
Seeing her, Ṛśyaśṛṅga, delighted yet appearing agitated, approached her then. And he said to her, 'Let us go to your hermitage before my father learns of this.' (03-113-7)
ततो राजन्काश्यपस्यैकपुत्रं; प्रवेश्य योगेन विमुच्य नावम्। प्रलोभयन्त्यो विविधैरुपायै; राजग्मुरङ्गाधिपतेः समीपम् ॥०३-११३-८॥
tato rājan kāśyapasyaika-putraṃ; praveśya yogena vimucya nāvam. pralobhayantyo vividhair-upāyaiḥ; rājagmur aṅgādhipateḥ samīpam ॥03-113-8॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; राजन् (rājan) - O king; काश्यपस्य (kāśyapasya) - of Kāśyapa; एकपुत्रं (eka-putraṃ) - the only son; प्रवेश्य (praveśya) - having caused to enter; योगेन (yogena) - by the means/method; विमुच्य (vimucya) - having released; नावम् (nāvam) - the boat; प्रलोभयन्त्यः (pralobhayantyaḥ) - enticers (they who were enticing); विविधैः (vividhaiḥ) - by various; उपायैः (upāyaiḥ) - means; राजग्मुः (rājagmuḥ) - they went (to the king); अङ्गाधिपतेः (aṅgādhipateḥ) - of the lord of Aṅga; समीपम् (samīpam) - near;]
(Then, O king, having caused the only son of Kāśyapa to enter by means, having released the boat, the enticers by various means went near the lord of Aṅga.)
Then, O king, after making the only son of Kāśyapa get aboard by some method and releasing the boat, those who were enticing with various means went to the presence of the lord of Aṅga. (03-113-8)
संस्थाप्य तामाश्रमदर्शने तु; सन्तारितां नावमतीव शुभ्राम्। तीरादुपादाय तथैव चक्रे; राजाश्रमं नाम वनं विचित्रम् ॥०३-११३-९॥
saṁsthāpya tām āśrama-darśane tu; santāritāṁ nāvam atīva śubhrām। tīrād upādāya tathaiva cakre; rājāśramaṁ nāma vanaṁ vicitram ॥03-113-9॥
[संस्थाप्य (saṁsthāpya) - having caused to be established; ताम् (tām) - her (the boat); आश्रमदर्शने (āśrama-darśane) - at the sight of the hermitage; तु (tu) - but; सन्तारिताम् (santāritām) - caused to be crossed over; नावम् (nāvam) - the boat; अतीव (atīva) - exceedingly; शुभ्राम् (śubhrām) - bright; तीरात् (tīrāt) - from the bank; उपादाय (upādāya) - taking; तथैव (tathaiva) - in the same way; चक्रे (cakre) - did (he) make; राजाश्रमम् (rājāśramam) - king's hermitage; नाम (nāma) - named; वनम् (vanam) - forest; विचित्रम् (vicitram) - wondrous;]
(Having established her at the view of the hermitage but, having caused the exceedingly bright boat to cross over, taking (it) from the bank, in the same way he made a forest named the king's hermitage, wondrous.)
But after establishing her at the hermitage view, and having caused the exceedingly bright boat to cross, taking it from the bank, he likewise made the wondrous forest named King’s Hermitage. (03-113-9)
अन्तःपुरे तं तु निवेश्य राजा; विभाण्डकस्यात्मजमेकपुत्रम्। ददर्श देवं सहसा प्रवृष्ट; मापूर्यमाणं च जगज्जलेन ॥०३-११३-१०॥
antaḥpure taṃ tu niveśya rājā; vibhāṇḍakasya ātmajam ekaputram। dadarśa devaṃ sahasā pravṛṣṭaṃ āpūryamāṇaṃ ca jagaj-jalena॥03-113-10॥
[अन्तःपुरे (antaḥpure) - in the inner apartments; तं (taṃ) - him; तु (tu) - indeed; निवेश्य (niveśya) - having settled; राजा (rājā) - the king; विभाण्डकस्य (vibhāṇḍakasya) - of Vibhāṇḍaka; आत्मजम् (ātmajam) - son; एकपुत्रम् (ekaputram) - the only son; ददर्श (dadarśa) - saw; देवं (devaṃ) - (as a) god; सहसा (sahasā) - suddenly; प्रवृष्टम् (pravṛṣṭam) - (being) poured down; आपूर्यमाणं (āpūryamāṇaṃ) - being filled; च (ca) - and; जगत् (jagat) - world; जलेन (jalena) - with water;]
(In the inner apartments, having settled him indeed, the king saw the only son of Vibhāṇḍaka (as a) god, and suddenly (saw) the world being filled with water being poured down.)

स लोमपादः परिपूर्णकामः; सुतां ददावृश्यशृङ्गाय शान्ताम्। क्रोधप्रतीकारकरं च चक्रे; गोभिश्च मार्गेष्वभिकर्षणं च ॥०३-११३-११॥
sa lomapādaḥ paripūrṇakāmaḥ; sutāṃ dadāv ṛṣyaśṛṅgāya śāntām. krodhapratīkārakaraṃ ca cakre; gobhiś ca mārgeṣv abhikarṣaṇaṃ ca ॥03-113-11॥
[स (sa) - he; लोमपादः (lomapādaḥ) - Lomapada; परिपूर्णकामः (paripūrṇakāmaḥ) - having fulfilled desire; सुताम् (sutām) - daughter; ददौ (dadau) - gave; ऋश्यशृङ्गाय (ṛṣyaśṛṅgāya) - to R̥ṣyaśr̥ṅga; शान्ताम् (śāntām) - Śāntā; क्रोधप्रतीकारकरम् (krodhapratīkārakaram) - act counteracting wrath; च (ca) - and; चक्रे (cakre) - did; गोभिः (gobhiḥ) - with cows; च (ca) - and; मार्गेषु (mārgeṣu) - on the paths; अभिकर्षणम् (abhikarṣaṇam) - drawing (them along); च (ca) - and;]
(He Lomapada having fulfilled desire, daughter gave to R̥ṣyaśr̥ṅga Śāntā. Act counteracting wrath and did; with cows and on the paths drawing (them along) and.)
Lomapada, his desires fulfilled, gave his daughter Śāntā to R̥ṣyaśr̥ṅga. He also performed acts to avert wrath, including leading cows along the roads. (03-113-11)
विभाण्डकस्याव्रजतः स राजा; पशून्प्रभूतान्पशुपांश्च वीरान्। समादिशत्पुत्रगृद्धी महर्षि; र्विभाण्डकः परिपृच्छेद्यदा वः ॥०३-११३-१२॥
vibhāṇḍakasya āvrajataḥ sa rājā; paśūn prabhūtān paśupāṁś ca vīrān. samādiśat putragṛddhī maharṣiḥ; vibhāṇḍakaḥ paripṛcchet yadā vaḥ ॥03-113-12॥
[विभाण्डकस्याव्रजतः (vibhāṇḍakasya āvrajataḥ) - of Vibhāṇḍaka, when arriving; स (sa) - he; राजा (rājā) - king; पशून् (paśūn) - animals; प्रभूतान् (prabhūtān) - abundant; पशुपान् (paśupān) - herdsmen; च (ca) - and; वीरान् (vīrān) - heroes; समादिशत् (samādiśat) - ordered; पुत्रगृद्धी (putragṛddhī) - one eager for (his) son; महर्षि (maharṣi) - great sage; विभाण्डकः (vibhāṇḍakaḥ) - Vibhāṇḍaka; परिपृच्छेत् (paripṛcchet) - should ask, question; यदा (yadā) - when; वः (vaḥ) - you (pl.);]
(Of Vibhāṇḍaka, when arriving, he, the king, ordered abundant animals, herdsmen and heroes. The great sage, eager for (his) son, (if) Vibhāṇḍaka should question you, when.)
When Vibhāṇḍaka arrives, the king ordered many animals, herdsmen, and heroes. If the great sage Vibhāṇḍaka, eager for his son, asks you, (do as instructed). (03-113-12)
स वक्तव्यः प्राञ्जलिभिर्भवद्भिः; पुत्रस्य ते पशवः कर्षणं च। किं ते प्रियं वै क्रियतां महर्षे; दासाः स्म सर्वे तव वाचि बद्धाः ॥०३-११३-१३॥
sa vaktavyaḥ prāñjalibhir bhavadbhiḥ; putrasya te paśavaḥ karṣaṇaṁ ca. kiṁ te priyaṁ vai kriyatāṁ maharṣe; dāsāḥ sma sarve tava vāci baddhāḥ ॥03-113-13॥
[स (sa) - he; वक्तव्यः (vaktavyaḥ) - should be spoken; प्राञ्जलिभिः (prāñjalibhiḥ) - with joined palms; भवद्भिः (bhavadbhiḥ) - by you; पुत्रस्य (putrasya) - of son; ते (te) - your; पशवः (paśavaḥ) - cattle; कर्षणं (karṣaṇam) - ploughing; च (ca) - and; किं (kiṁ) - what; ते (te) - for you; प्रियं (priyam) - dear; वै (vai) - indeed; क्रियतां (kriyatām) - let it be done; महर्षे (maharṣe) - O great sage; दासाः (dāsāḥ) - servants; स्म (sma) - indeed; सर्वे (sarve) - all; तव (tava) - your; वाचि (vāci) - to the word; बद्धाः (baddhāḥ) - bound;]
(He should be addressed with joined palms by you; the cattle of your son and ploughing also. What dear (thing) for you indeed let it be done, O great sage; servants indeed all (of us) bound to your word.)
You should address him with joined palms; your son's cattle and the ploughing (are at your disposal). Whatever is dear to you, O great sage, let it be done. We are all your servants, indeed bound by your word. (03-113-13)
अथोपायात्स मुनिश्चण्डकोपः; स्वमाश्रमं मूलफलानि गृह्य। अन्वेषमाणश्च न तत्र पुत्रं; ददर्श चुक्रोध ततो भृशं सः ॥०३-११३-१४॥
athopāyāts muniś caṇḍakopaḥ; svam āśramaṃ mūlaphalāni gṛhya. anveṣamāṇaś ca na tatra putraṃ; dadarśa cukrodha tato bhṛśaṃ saḥ ॥03-113-14॥
[अथ (atha) - then; उपायात् (upāyāt) - approached; सः (saḥ) - he; मुनिः (muniḥ) - sage; चण्डकोपः (caṇḍakopaḥ) - with fierce anger; स्वम् (svam) - his own; आश्रमम् (āśramam) - hermitage; मूलफलानि (mūlaphalāni) - roots and fruits; गृह्य (gṛhya) - having taken; अन्वेषमाणः (anveṣamāṇaḥ) - searching; च (ca) - and; न (na) - not; तत्र (tatra) - there; पुत्रम् (putram) - son; ददर्श (dadarśa) - he saw; चु क्रोध (cukrodha) - became angry; ततः (tataḥ) - then; भृशम् (bhṛśam) - intensely; सः (saḥ) - he;]
(Then, approached he the sage of fierce anger, his own hermitage, having taken roots and fruits; searching and not there (was) his son, (he) saw (this) and became intensely angry then he.)
Then the sage, fiercely angry, approached his own hermitage carrying roots and fruits; searching but not finding his son there, he saw this and became intensely enraged. (03-113-14)
ततः स कोपेन विदीर्यमाण; आशङ्कमानो नृपतेर्विधानम्। जगाम चम्पां प्रदिधक्षमाण; स्तमङ्गराजं विषयं च तस्य ॥०३-११३-१५॥
tataḥ sa kopena vidīryamāṇa; āśaṅkāmāno nṛpatervidhānam। jagāma campāṃ pradidhakṣamāṇaḥ; tam aṅgarājaṃ viṣayaṃ ca tasya ॥03-113-15॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; स (sa) - he; कोपेन (kopena) - with anger; विदीर्यमाणः (vidīryamāṇaḥ) - being torn apart; आशङ्कमानः (āśaṅkāmānaḥ) - suspecting; नृपतेः (nṛpateḥ) - of the king; विधानम् (vidhānam) - plan; जगाम (jagāma) - he went; चम्पाम् (campām) - to Campā (the city); प्रदिधक्षमाणः (pradidhakṣamāṇaḥ) - intending to burn; तम् (tam) - him; अङ्गराजम् (aṅgarājam) - the king of Aṅga; विषयम् (viṣayam) - domain; च (ca) - and; तस्य (tasya) - his;]
(Then he with anger being torn apart, suspecting the king's plan, he went to Campā, intending to burn him, the king of Aṅga and his domain.)

(He indeed, tired, hungry, Kāśyapa, those prosperous settlements had reached. By the cowherds and by them duly being honored, like a king, that night he spent there.)
Kāśyapa, being tired and hungry, reached those prosperous settlements. There, being duly honored by the cowherds like a king, he spent the night there. (03-113-16)
सम्प्राप्य सत्कारमतीव तेभ्यः; प्रोवाच कस्य प्रथिताः स्थ सौम्याः। ऊचुस्ततस्तेऽभ्युपगम्य सर्वे; धनं तवेदं विहितं सुतस्य ॥०३-११३-१७॥
samprāpya satkāram atīva tebhyaḥ; provāca kasya prathitāḥ stha saumyāḥ. ūcus tataste'bhyupagamya sarve; dhanaṃ tavedam vihitaṃ sutasya ॥03-113-17॥

(Having obtained honor extremely from them, he said, "Of whom are you renowned, gentle ones?" Then they all, having approached, said, "This wealth of yours is appointed for your son." (03-113-17))
After receiving great honor from them, he asked, "Gentle ones, whose fame do you belong to?" Then they all approached and said, "This wealth of yours has been allotted to your son." (03-113-17)
देशे तु देशे तु स पूज्यमान; स्तांश्चैव शृण्वन्मधुरान्प्रलापान्। प्रशान्तभूयिष्ठरजाः प्रहृष्टः; समाससादाङ्गपतिं पुरस्थम् ॥०३-११३-१८॥
deśe tu deśe tu sa pūjyamānaḥ tāṃś caiva śṛṇvan madhurān pralāpān | praśānta-bhūyiṣṭha-rajāḥ prahṛṣṭaḥ samāsasāda aṅgapatiṃ purastham ॥03-113-18॥

(But in region, but in region, he those being honored and indeed hearing sweet utterances, with dust mostly calmed, delighted, approached the lord of Aṅga, who was standing before.)
But in each region, as he, being honored, heard their sweet utterances, with most of the dust settled, delighted, he approached the lord of Aṅga, who stood before him. (03-113-18)
सम्पूजितस्तेन नरर्षभेण; ददर्श पुत्रं दिवि देवं यथेन्द्रम्। शान्तां स्नुषां चैव ददर्श तत्र; सौदामिनीमुच्चरन्तीं यथैव ॥०३-११३-१९॥
sampūjitastena naraṛṣabheṇa; dadarśa putraṃ divi devaṃ yathendram. śāntāṃ snuṣāṃ caiva dadarśa tatra; saudāminīmuccarantīṃ yathaiva ॥03-113-19॥

(Honored by him, by the bull among men; he saw the son in the heavens, a god like Indra. The tranquil daughter-in-law also he saw there; shining like lightning just so.)
Having been honored by that bull among men, he saw his son in heaven, a god like Indra. There, too, he saw the tranquil daughter-in-law, shining just like lightning. (03-113-19)
ग्रामांश्च घोषांश्च सुतं च दृष्ट्वा; शान्तां च शान्तोऽस्य परः स कोपः। चकार तस्मै परमं प्रसादं; विभाण्डको भूमिपतेर्नरेन्द्र ॥०३-११३-२०॥
grāmāṁś ca ghoṣāṁś ca sutaṁ ca dṛṣṭvā; śāntāṁ ca śānto'sya paraḥ sa kopaḥ। cakāra tasmai paramaṁ prasādaṁ; vibhāṇḍako bhūmipater narendra ॥03-113-20॥

(Villages and livestock settlements and son and having seen; calm and calmed his great that anger; made to him supreme favor; Vibhāṇḍaka of the lord of the earth, O king (03-113-20))
O king, Vibhāṇḍaka, having seen the villages, livestock settlements, and his son, and when his great anger was calmed, bestowed his supreme favor upon the lord of the earth. (03-113-20)
स तत्र निक्षिप्य सुतं महर्षि; रुवाच सूर्याग्निसमप्रभावम्। जाते पुत्रे वनमेवाव्रजेथा; राज्ञः प्रियाण्यस्य सर्वाणि कृत्वा ॥०३-११३-२१॥
sa tatra nikṣipya sutaṃ maharṣi; uvāca sūryāgnisamaprabhāvam. jāte putre vanamevāvrajetā; rājñaḥ priyāṇyasya sarvāṇi kṛtvā ॥03-113-21॥

(He, having placed the son there, O great sage, said (to him) of the same power as the sun and fire. When the son is born, into the forest only should you go, having done all the dear things for this king.)
He placed his son there and said to the great sage, who had power equal to the sun and fire: "When a son is born, you should go to the forest after having done all that is dear to the king." (03-113-21)
स तद्वचः कृतवानृश्यशृङ्गो; ययौ च यत्रास्य पिता बभूव। शान्ता चैनं पर्यचरद्यथाव; त्खे रोहिणी सोममिवानुकूला ॥०३-११३-२२॥
sa tadvacaḥ kṛtavān ṛśyaśṛṅgaḥ; yayau ca yatrāsya pitā babhūva. śāntā ca enaṃ paryacarad yathāv; takhe rohiṇī somam ivānukūlā ॥03-113-22॥

(He those words Ṛśyaśṛṅga performed; and went where his father was. Śāntā also him attended as Rohiṇī the Moon like devoted.)
Ṛśyaśṛṅga did as he was told and went where his father was. Śāntā served him, devotedly, just as Rohiṇī attends to the Moon. (03-113-22)
अरुन्धती वा सुभगा वसिष्ठं; लोपामुद्रा वापि यथा ह्यगस्त्यम्। नलस्य वा दमयन्ती यथाभू; द्यथा शची वज्रधरस्य चैव ॥०३-११३-२३॥
arundhatī vā subhagā vasiṣṭhaṃ; lopāmudrā vāpi yathā hyagastyam। nalasya vā damayantī yathābhū; yathā śacī vajradharasya caiva॥03-113-23॥

(Arundhatī or the fortunate one (towards) Vasiṣṭha; Lopāmudrā or also just as certainly (towards) Agastya. Of Nala, or Damayantī just as was; just as Śacī (towards) the wielder of the thunderbolt and indeed. (03-113-23))
Just as Arundhatī was devoted to Vasiṣṭha with good fortune; or as Lopāmudrā certainly was to Agastya; or just as Damayantī was to Nala; and as Śacī was to the wielder of the thunderbolt, Indra. (03-113-23)
नाडायनी चेन्द्रसेना यथैव; वश्या नित्यं मुद्गलस्याजमीढ। तथा शान्ता ऋश्यशृङ्गं वनस्थं; प्रीत्या युक्ता पर्यचरन्नरेन्द्र ॥०३-११३-२४॥
nāḍāyanī cendrasenā yathaiva; vaśyā nityaṃ mudgalasyājamīḍha. tathā śāntā ṛṣyaśṛṅgaṃ vanasthaṃ; prītyā yuktā paryacaran narendra ॥03-113-24॥
[नाडायनी (nāḍāyanī) - daughter of Nāḍāyana; च (ca) - and; इन्द्रसेना (indrasenā) - Indrasenā; यथैव (yathaiva) - just as; वश्या (vaśyā) - obedient; नित्यं (nityaṃ) - always; मुद्गलस्य (mudgalasya) - of Mudgala; अजमीढ (ajamīḍha) - Ajamiḍha (epithet for Mudgala); तथा (tathā) - so; शान्ता (śāntā) - Śāntā; ऋश्यशृङ्गं (ṛṣyaśṛṅgaṃ) - (to) Ṛṣyaśṛṅga; वनस्थं (vanasthaṃ) - dwelling in the forest; प्रीत्या (prītyā) - with affection; युक्ता (yuktā) - devoted; पर्यचरत् (paryacarat) - served; नरेन्द्र (narendra) - O king;]
(Nāḍāyanī and Indrasenā just as, obedient always to Mudgala, Ajamiḍha; so Śāntā (to) Ṛṣyaśṛṅga dwelling in the forest, with affection, devoted, served, O king.)
Just as Nāḍāyanī and Indrasenā were always obedient to Mudgala, O king, so Śāntā with affection and devotion served Ṛṣyaśṛṅga, who was dwelling in the forest. (3-113-24)
तस्याश्रमः पुण्य एषो विभाति; महाह्रदं शोभयन्पुण्यकीर्तेः। अत्र स्नातः कृतकृत्यो विशुद्ध; स्तीर्थान्यन्यान्यनुसंयाहि राजन् ॥०३-११३-२५॥
tasyāśramaḥ puṇya eṣo vibhāti; mahāhradaṃ śobhayan puṇya-kīrteḥ. atra snātaḥ kṛtakṛtyo viśuddhaḥ; tīrthāni anyāni anusamyāhi rājan ॥03-113-25॥
[तस्याश्रमः (tasya āśramaḥ) - his hermitage; पुण्य (puṇya) - auspicious; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this; विभाति (vibhāti) - shines; महाह्रदं (mahā-hradam) - great lake; शोभयन् (śobhayan) - beautifying; पुण्यकीर्तेः (puṇya-kīrteḥ) - of the one of auspicious fame; अत्र (atra) - here; स्नातः (snātaḥ) - having bathed; कृतकृत्यः (kṛtakṛtyaḥ) - one who has accomplished all (duties); विशुद्धः (viśuddhaḥ) - purified; तीर्थानि (tīrthāni) - holy places; अन्यानि (anyāni) - others; अनुसंयाहि (anusaṃyāhi) - go to (in succession); राजन् (rājan) - O king;]
(His hermitage, auspicious, this shines; the great lake beautifying the one of auspicious fame. Here, having bathed, one who has accomplished all (duties), purified, go to other holy places in succession, O king. (03-113-25))
