श्रान्ता दुःखपरीता च वातवर्षेण तेन च। सौकुमार्याच्च पाञ्चाली संमुमोह यशस्विनी ॥०३-१४४-२॥

सा पात्यमाना मोहेन बाहुभ्यामसितेक्षणा। वृत्ताभ्यामनुरूपाभ्यामूरू समवलम्बत ॥०३-१४४-३॥

अदुःखार्हा परं दुःखं प्राप्तेयं मृदुगामिनी। आश्वासय महाराज तामिमां श्रमकर्शिताम् ॥०३-१४४-७॥
aduḥkhārhā paraṃ duḥkhaṃ prāpteyaṃ mṛdugāminī। āśvāsaya mahārāja tām imāṃ śramakarśitām ॥03-144-7॥

This gentle lady, who does not deserve suffering but has encountered great pain and is worn by fatigue—O great king, console her. (03-144-7)

तामवेक्ष्य तु कौन्तेयो विवर्णवदनां कृशाम्। अङ्कमानीय धर्मात्मा पर्यदेवयदातुरः ॥०३-१४४-९॥
tām avekṣya tu kaunteyaḥ vivarṇavadanāṃ kṛśām। aṅkam ānīya dharmātmā paryadevayad āturaḥ॥03-144-9॥

kathaṁ veśmasu gupṯeṣu svāstīrṇaśayanocitā। śete nipatitā bhūmau sukhārhā varavarṇinī॥03-144-10॥

सुकुमारौ कथं पादौ मुखं च कमलप्रभम्। मत्कृतेऽद्य वरार्हायाः श्यामतां समुपागतम् ॥०३-१४४-११॥
sukumārau kathaṁ pādau mukhaṁ ca kamalaprabham। matkṛte'dya varārhāyāḥ śyāmatāṁ samupāgatam ॥03-144-11॥

किमिदं द्यूतकामेन मया कृतमबुद्धिना। आदाय कृष्णां चरता वने मृगगणायुते ॥०३-१४४-१२॥
kim idaṁ dyūta-kāmena mayā kṛtam abuddhinā। ādāya kṛṣṇām caratā vane mṛga-gaṇa-ayute ॥03-144-12॥

(What is this that, through desire for gambling, by me, done foolishly? Having taken Kṛṣṇā, wandering in the forest filled with groups of deer.)
What have I, out of desire for gambling and in my foolishness, done? Having brought Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī), I wander in a forest full of herds of deer. (03-144-12)
सुखं प्राप्स्यति पाञ्चाली पाण्डवान्प्राप्य वै पतीन्। इति द्रुपदराजेन पित्रा दत्तायतेक्षणा ॥०३-१४४-१३॥
sukhaṃ prāpsyati pāñcālī pāṇḍavān prāpya vai patīn। iti drupadarājena pitrā dattāyatekṣaṇā ॥03-144-13॥

(Happiness will obtain Pāñcālī, the Pāṇḍavas having indeed obtained as husbands; thus by King Drupada, by (her) father, given, wide-eyed (one). (03-144-13))
Pāñcālī, after obtaining the Pāṇḍavas as husbands, will attain happiness; thus, the wide-eyed one was given by her father King Drupada. (03-144-13)
तत्सर्वमनवाप्यैव श्रमशोकाद्धि कर्शिता। शेते निपतिता भूमौ पापस्य मम कर्मभिः ॥०३-१४४-१४॥
tatsarvamanavāpyaiva śramaśokāddhi karśitā। śete nipatitā bhūmau pāpasya mama karmabhiḥ ॥03-144-14॥

(That all not attaining indeed from fatigue and sorrow indeed emaciated lies fallen on the ground by the actions of my sin.)
She, not having attained all that, emaciated by fatigue and sorrow, lies fallen on the ground by the actions of my sin. (03-144-14)
तथा लालप्यमाने तु धर्मराजे युधिष्ठिरे। धौम्यप्रभृतयः सर्वे तत्राजग्मुर्द्विजोत्तमाः ॥०३-१४४-१५॥
tathā lālapyamāne tu dharmarāje yudhiṣṭhire। dhaumyaprabhṛtayaḥ sarve tatrājagmur dvijottamāḥ ॥03-144-15॥
[तथा (tathā) - thus; लालप्यमाने (lālapyamāne) - lamenting; तु (tu) - but; धर्मराजे (dharmarāje) - upon Dharmarāja; युधिष्ठिरे (yudhiṣṭhire) - on Yudhiṣṭhira; धौम्यप्रभृतयः (dhaumyaprabhṛtayaḥ) - Dhaumya and others; सर्वे (sarve) - all; तत्र (tatra) - there; अजग्मुः (ajagmuḥ) - arrived; द्विजोत्तमाः (dvijottamāḥ) - excellent Brāhmaṇas;]
(Thus, while lamenting but upon Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira, Dhaumya and others, all there arrived, excellent Brāhmaṇas.)
Thus, as Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira was lamenting, Dhaumya and all the foremost Brāhmaṇas arrived there. (03-144-15)
ते समाश्वासयामासुराशीर्भिश्चाप्यपूजयन्। रक्षोघ्नांश्च तथा मन्त्राञ्जेपुश्चक्रुश्च ते क्रियाः ॥०३-१४४-१६॥
te samāśvāsayāmāsur āśīr bhiś cāpy apūjayan. rakṣo-ghnāṁś ca tathā mantrāñ jepuś cakruś ca te kriyāḥ ॥03-144-16॥
[ते (te) - they; समाश्वासयामासुः (samāśvāsayāmāsuḥ) - consoled; आशीर्भिः (āśīrbhiḥ) - with blessings; च (ca) - and; अप्य (api) - also; पूजयन् (apūjayan) - honored; रक्षोघ्नान् (rakṣo-ghnān) - destructive (of) demons; च (ca) - and; तथा (tathā) - likewise; मन्त्रान् (mantrān) - mantras; जेपुः (jepuḥ) - recited; चक्रुः (cakruḥ) - performed; च (ca) - and; ते (te) - they; क्रियाः (kriyāḥ) - rites;]
(They consoled (him), and also honored (him) with blessings; and likewise, they recited destructive-of-demons mantras, and they performed rites.)
They comforted him and honored him with blessings; they also recited mantras that destroy demons and performed rituals. (03-144-16)
पठ्यमानेषु मन्त्रेषु शान्त्यर्थं परमर्षिभिः। स्पृश्यमाना करैः शीतैः पाण्डवैश्च मुहुर्मुहुः ॥०३-१४४-१७॥
paṭhyamāneṣu mantreṣu śānty-arthaṃ paramarṣibhiḥ। spṛśyamānā karaiḥ śītaiḥ pāṇḍavaiś ca muhurmuhuḥ॥03-144-17॥

(While the mantras were being recited by the supreme sages for the purpose of appeasement, being touched again and again by the cool hands of the Pāṇḍavas;)
As the supreme sages recited the mantras for the sake of peace, she was repeatedly touched by the cool hands of the Pāṇḍavas. (03-144-17)
सेव्यमाना च शीतेन जलमिश्रेण वायुना। पाञ्चाली सुखमासाद्य लेभे चेतः शनैः शनैः ॥०३-१४४-१८॥
sevyamānā ca śītena jala-miśreṇa vāyunā। pāñcālī sukham-āsādya lebhe cetaḥ śanaiḥ śanaiḥ ॥03-144-18॥
[सेव्यमाना (sevyamānā) - being attended; च (ca) - and; शीतेन (śītena) - with cool; जलमिश्रेण (jala-miśreṇa) - water-mixed; वायुना (vāyunā) - by wind; पाञ्चाली (pāñcālī) - Pañcālī (Draupadī); सुखमासाद्य (sukham-āsādya) - having attained ease; लेभे (lebhe) - obtained; चेतः (cetaḥ) - consciousness; शनैः शनैः (śanaiḥ śanaiḥ) - slowly, gradually;]
(Being attended and with cool, water-mixed wind, Pañcālī, having attained ease, obtained consciousness slowly, gradually.)
Attended by a cool breeze mixed with water, Pañcālī (Draupadī) gradually regained consciousness and comfort. (03-144-18)
परिगृह्य च तां दीनां कृष्णामजिनसंस्तरे। तदा विश्रामयामासुर्लब्धसञ्ज्ञां तपस्विनीम् ॥०३-१४४-१९॥
parigṛhya ca tāṃ dīnāṃ kṛṣṇāmajinasaṃstare। tadā viśrāmayāmāsur labdhasaṃjñāṃ tapasvinīm ॥03-144-19॥
[परिगृह्य (parigṛhya) - having embraced; च (ca) - and; तां (tāṃ) - her; दीनां (dīnāṃ) - distressed; कृष्णाम्-अजिन-संस्तरे (kṛṣṇām-ajina-saṃstare) - on a black-deer-skin seat; तदा (tadā) - then; विश्रामयामासुः (viśrāmayāmāsuḥ) - they caused to rest; लब्ध-सञ्ज्ञाम् (labdha-saṃjñām) - who had regained consciousness; तपस्विनीम् (tapasvinīm) - the ascetic woman;]
(Having embraced her distressed (one) on a black-deer-skin seat, then they caused to rest the ascetic woman who had regained consciousness.)
They embraced the distressed woman, and then, on the black-deer-skin seat, they let the ascetic regain her strength once she had returned to consciousness. (03-144-19)
तस्या यमौ रक्ततलौ पादौ पूजितलक्षणौ। कराभ्यां किणजाताभ्यां शनकैः संववाहतुः ॥०३-१४४-२०॥
tasyā yamau raktatalau pādau pūjitalakṣaṇau। karābhyāṃ kiṇajātābhyāṃ śanakaiḥ saṃvavāhatuḥ ॥03-144-20॥

They gently massaged her two feet, which had red soles and marks of worship, with their ornamented hands. (03-144-20)
पर्याश्वासयदप्येनां धर्मराजो युधिष्ठिरः। उवाच च कुरुश्रेष्ठो भीमसेनमिदं वचः ॥०३-१४४-२१॥
paryāśvāsayad apy enāṃ dharmarājo yudhiṣṭhiraḥ। uvāca ca kuruśreṣṭho bhīmasenam idaṃ vacaḥ॥03-144-21॥
[पर्याश्वासयत् (paryāśvāsayat) - he caused to console; अपि (api) - also; एनाम् (enām) - her; धर्मराजः (dharmarājaḥ) - Dharmarāja (Yudhiṣṭhira); युधिष्ठिरः (yudhiṣṭhiraḥ) - Yudhiṣṭhira; उवाच (uvāca) - said; च (ca) - and; कुरुश्रेष्ठः (kuruśreṣṭhaḥ) - the foremost of the Kurus; भीमसेनम् (bhīmasenam) - to Bhīmasena; इदं (idaṃ) - this; वचः (vacaḥ) - speech;]
(Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira also caused her to be consoled; and the foremost of the Kurus, Yudhiṣṭhira, said this speech to Bhīmasena.)
Yudhiṣṭhira, the king of righteousness, consoled her as well, and then the foremost of the Kurus spoke these words to Bhīmasena. (03-144-21)
बहवः पर्वता भीम विषमा हिमदुर्गमाः। तेषु कृष्णा महाबाहो कथं नु विचरिष्यति ॥०३-१४४-२२॥
bahavaḥ parvatā bhīma viṣamā himadurgamāḥ। teṣu kṛṣṇā mahābāho kathaṃ nu vicariṣyati॥03-144-22॥
[बहवः (bahavaḥ) - many; पर्वता (parvatā) - mountains; भीम (bhīma) - terrible; विषमा (viṣamā) - uneven; हिमदुर्गमाः (himadurgamāḥ) - difficult because of snow; तेषु (teṣu) - among them; कृष्णा (kṛṣṇā) - Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī); महाबाहो (mahābāho) - O mighty-armed; कथं (kathaṃ) - how; नु (nu) - indeed; विचरिष्यति (vicariṣyati) - will move about;]
(Many mountains, terrible, uneven, difficult because of snow; among them, Kṛṣṇā, O mighty-armed, how indeed will move about?)
O mighty-armed one, there are many mountains, terrible, uneven and difficult because of snow; how indeed will Kṛṣṇā move among them? (03-144-22)

त्वां राजन्राजपुत्रीं च यमौ च पुरुषर्षभौ। स्वयं नेष्यामि राजेन्द्र मा विषादे मनः कृथाः ॥०३-१४४-२३॥
tvāṁ rājann rājaputrīṁ ca yamau ca puruṣarṣabhau। svayaṁ neṣyāmi rājendra mā viṣāde manaḥ kṛthāḥ॥03-144-23॥
[त्वां (tvāṁ) - you; राजन् (rājan) - O king; राजपुत्रीं (rājaputrīṁ) - the princess; च (ca) - and; यमौ (yamau) - the two sons of Yama; च (ca) - and; पुरुषर्षभौ (puruṣarṣabhau) - bulls among men; स्वयम् (svayam) - myself; नेष्यामि (neṣyāmi) - I will lead; राजेन्द्र (rājendra) - O lord of kings; मा (mā) - do not; विषादे (viṣāde) - in despair; मनः (manaḥ) - mind; कृथाः (kṛthāḥ) - place;]
(You, O king, the princess and the two sons of Yama, bulls among men, I myself will lead. O lord of kings, do not place (your) mind in despair.)
O king, I myself will lead you, the princess, and the two sons of Yama, foremost among men. O lord of kings, do not let your mind fall into despair. (03-144-23)
अथ वासौ मया जातो विहगो मद्बलोपमः। वहेदनघ सर्वान्नो वचनात्ते घतोत्कचः ॥०३-१४४-२४॥
atha vāsau mayā jāto vihago madbalopamaḥ। vahedanagha sarvānno vacanātte ghaṭotkacaḥ॥03-144-24॥
[अथ (atha) - then; वा (vā) - or; असौ (asau) - he; मया (mayā) - by me; जातः (jātaḥ) - born; विहगः (vihagaḥ) - bird; मद्बल-उपमः (madbala-upamaḥ) - equal to my strength; वहेत् (vahet) - might carry; अनघ (anagha) - O sinless one; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; नः (naḥ) - us; वचनात् (vacanāt) - by (your/my) command; ते (te) - your; घटोत्त्कचः (ghaṭotkacaḥ) - Ghaṭotkaca (proper noun);]
(Then or he, by me born bird, equal to my strength, might carry, O sinless one, all us, by your command, Ghaṭotkaca.)
Then, O sinless one, this Ghaṭotkaca, the bird born by me and equal to my strength, might carry all of us by your command. (03-144-24)

अनुज्ञातो धर्मराज्ञा पुत्रं सस्मार राक्षसम्। घटोत्कचश्च धर्मात्मा स्मृतमात्रः पितुस्तदा ॥ कृताञ्जलिरुपातिष्ठदभिवाद्याथ पाण्डवान् ॥०३-१४४-२५॥
anujñāto dharmarājñā putraṃ sasmāra rākṣasam। ghaṭotkacaś ca dharmātmā smṛtamātraḥ pituḥ tadā॥ kṛtāñjalir upātiṣṭhad abhivādyātha pāṇḍavān॥03-144-25॥
[अनुज्ञातः (anujñātaḥ) (anujñātaḥ) - permitted; धर्मराज्ञा (dharmarājñā) (dharmarājñā) - by the king of dharma (Yudhiṣṭhira); पुत्रम् (putram) (putram) - son; सस्मार (sasmāra) (sasmāra) - remembered; राक्षसम् (rākṣasam) (rākṣasam) - the Rākṣasa (demon); घटोत्कचः (ghaṭotkacaḥ) (ghaṭotkacaḥ) - Ghaṭotkaca; च (ca) (ca) - and; धर्मात्मा (dharmātmā) (dharmātmā) - righteous; स्मृतमात्रः (smṛtamātraḥ) (smṛtamātraḥ) - on being only remembered; पितुः (pituḥ) (pituḥ) - by his father; तदा (tadā) (tadā) - then; कृताञ्जलिः (kṛtāñjaliḥ) (kṛtāñjaliḥ) - with joined palms; उपातिष्ठत् (upātiṣṭhat) (upātiṣṭhat) - approached; अभिवाद्य (abhivādya) (abhivādya) - having saluted; अथ (atha) (atha) - then; पाण्डवान् (pāṇḍavān) (pāṇḍavān) - the Pāṇḍavas;]
(Permitted by the king of dharma, (Bhīma) remembered the Rākṣasa son. And righteous Ghaṭotkaca, when only remembered by his father then, with joined palms, having saluted, approached the Pāṇḍavas.)
Permitted by Yudhiṣṭhira, Bhīma remembered his Rākṣasa son; and Ghaṭotkaca, the righteous one, appeared at once upon being remembered by his father. With joined palms, after saluting, he then approached the Pāṇḍavas. (03-144-25)
ब्राह्मणांश्च महाबाहुः स च तैरभिनन्दितः। उवाच भीमसेनं स पितरं सत्यविक्रमः ॥०३-१४४-२६॥
brāhmaṇāṁś ca mahābāhuḥ sa ca tair abhinanditaḥ। uvāca bhīmasenaṁ sa pitaraṁ satyavikramaḥ ॥03-144-26॥
[ब्राह्मणान् (brāhmaṇān) - the Brāhmaṇas; च (ca) - and; महाबाहुः (mahābāhuḥ) - the great-armed one; स (sa) - he; च (ca) - and; तैः (taiḥ) - by them; अभिनन्दितः (abhinanditaḥ) - welcomed; उवाच (uvāca) - said; भीमसेनम् (bhīmasenam) - Bhīmasena; स (sa) - he; पितरम् (pitaram) - father; सत्यविक्रमः (satyavikramaḥ) - of true valor;]
(And the great-armed one, having been welcomed by those Brāhmaṇas, he said to Bhīmasena, his father, of true valor.)
The great-armed one, after being welcomed by those Brāhmaṇas, addressed Bhīmasena, his father endowed with true valor. (03-144-26)
स्मृतोऽस्मि भवता शीघ्रं शुश्रूषुरहमागतः। आज्ञापय महाबाहो सर्वं कर्तास्म्यसंशयम् ॥ तच्छ्रुत्वा भीमसेनस्तु राक्षसं परिषस्वजे ॥०३-१४४-२७॥
smṛto'smi bhavatā śīghraṃ śuśrūṣurahamāgataḥ। ājñāpaya mahābāho sarvaṃ kartāsmyaśaṃśayam ॥ tacchrutvā bhīmasenastu rākṣasaṃ pariṣasvaje ॥03-144-27॥
[स्मृतः (smṛtaḥ) - remembered; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; भवता (bhavatā) - by you; शीघ्रं (śīghram) - quickly; शुश्रूषुः (śuśrūṣuḥ) - desirous to serve; अहम् (aham) - I; आगतः (āgataḥ) - have come; आज्ञापय (ājñāpaya) - command; महाबाहो (mahābāho) - O mighty-armed; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; कर्तास्मि (kartāsmi) - I shall do; असंशयम् (asaṃśayam) - without doubt; तत् (tat) - that; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; भीमसेनः (bhīmasenaḥ) - Bhimasena; तु (tu) - indeed; राक्षसम् (rākṣasam) - the rākṣasa; परिषस्वजे (pariṣasvaje) - embraced;]
(Remembered I am by you, quickly desirous to serve I have come; command, O mighty-armed, all I shall do without doubt. That having heard, Bhimasena indeed the rākṣasa embraced. (03-144-27))
"I am remembered by you; quickly, desiring to serve, I have come. Command me, O mighty-armed one; I will do everything without doubt." Having heard that, Bhimasena embraced the rākṣasa. (03-144-27)
