वैशम्पायन उवाच॥
Vaiśampāyana said.
ततोऽर्जुनश्चित्रसेनं प्रहसन्निदमब्रवीत्। मध्ये गन्धर्वसैन्यानां महेष्वासो महाद्युतिः ॥०३-२३५-१॥
Then Arjuna, the illustrious great archer, smiling, spoke these words to Citrasena in the midst of the Gandharva armies. (03-235-1)
किं ते व्यवसितं वीर कौरवाणां विनिग्रहे। किमर्थं च सदारोऽयं निगृहीतः सुयोधनः ॥०३-२३५-२॥
O hero, what have you decided for restraining the Kauravas? And for what reason has Suyodhana been restrained here with his wife? (03-235-2)
चित्रसेन उवाच॥
Citrasena said.
विदितोऽयमभिप्रायस्तत्रस्थेन महात्मना। दुर्योधनस्य पापस्य कर्णस्य च धनञ्जय ॥०३-२३५-३॥
O Dhanañjaya, this intention of wicked Duryodhana and Karṇa is known by the great-souled one who is there. (03-235-3)
वनस्थान्भवतो ज्ञात्वा क्लिश्यमानाननर्हवत्। इमेऽवहसितुं प्राप्ता द्रौपदीं च यशस्विनीम् ॥०३-२३५-४॥
Knowing that you, who are undeserving, are afflicted and dwelling in the forest, these have come to ridicule you and the illustrious Draupadī. (03-235-4)
ज्ञात्वा चिकीर्षितं चैषां मामुवाच सुरेश्वरः। गच्छ दुर्योधनं बद्ध्वा सामात्यं त्वमिहानय ॥०३-२३५-५॥
Knowing the intentions of these men, the lord of the gods said to me: "Go, seize Duryodhana and his ministers and bring them here." (03-235-5)
धनञ्जयश्च ते रक्ष्यः सह भ्रातृभिराहवे। स हि प्रियः सखा तुभ्यं शिष्यश्च तव पाण्डवः ॥०३-२३५-६॥
Dhananjaya must be protected by you along with his brothers in battle, for he is indeed your dear friend, disciple, and the son of Pandu. (03-235-6)
वचनाद्देवराजस्य ततोऽस्मीहागतो द्रुतम्। अयं दुरात्मा बद्धश्च गमिष्यामि सुरालयम् ॥०३-२३५-७॥
At the command of the king of the gods, I have come here swiftly. This wicked soul is bound, and I will go to the abode of the gods. (03-235-7)
अर्जुन उवाच॥
Arjuna said;
उत्सृज्यतां चित्रसेन भ्रातास्माकं सुयोधनः। धर्मराजस्य संदेशान्मम चेदिच्छसि प्रियम् ॥०३-२३५-८॥
If you wish to do me a favor, let Suyodhana's brother Citraseṇa be released as per the message of Dharmarāja and myself. (03-235-8)
चित्रसेन उवाच॥
Citrāsen said.
पापोऽयं नित्यसंदुष्टो न विमोक्षणमर्हति। प्रलब्धा धर्मराजस्य कृष्णायाश्च धनञ्जय ॥०३-२३५-९॥
This sinful man, always wicked, does not deserve to be freed. Dharmarāja, Kṛṣṇā, and you, O Dhanañjaya, have been insulted. (03-235-9)
नेदं चिकीर्षितं तस्य कुन्तीपुत्रो महाव्रतः। जानाति धर्मराजो हि श्रुत्वा कुरु यथेच्छसि ॥०३-२३५-१०॥
The son of Kuntī, who is of great vow, did not desire this to be done; Dharmarāja indeed is aware of it. Having heard, do as you wish. (03-235-10)
वैशम्पायन उवाच॥
Vaiśampāyana said.
ते सर्व एव राजानमभिजग्मुर्युधिष्ठिरम्। अभिगम्य च तत्सर्वं शशंसुस्तस्य दुष्कृतम् ॥०३-२३५-११॥
They all went to King Yudhishthira; after approaching him, they told him all about that evil deed of his. (03-235-11)
अजातशत्रुस्तच्छ्रुत्वा गन्धर्वस्य वचस्तदा। मोक्षयामास तान्सर्वान्गन्धर्वान्प्रशशंस च ॥०३-२३५-१२॥
Ajātaśatru, having heard the words of the Gandharva at that time, set all those Gandharvas free and also praised them. (03-235-12)
दिष्ट्या भवद्भिर्बलिभिः शक्तैः सर्वैर्न हिंसितः। दुर्वृत्तो धार्तराष्ट्रोऽयं सामात्यज्ञातिबान्धवः ॥०३-२३५-१३॥
By good fortune, this wicked son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra with his ministers, kinsmen, and friends has not been harmed by you all, powerful and capable as you are. (03-235-13)
उपकारो महांस्तात कृतोऽयं मम खेचराः। कुलं न परिभूतं मे मोक्षेणास्य दुरात्मनः ॥०३-२३५-१४॥
O father, a great favor has been done for me, O sky-dwellers; my family has not been humiliated by the liberation of this wicked-minded one. (03-235-14)
आज्ञापयध्वमिष्टानि प्रीयामो दर्शनेन वः। प्राप्य सर्वानभिप्रायांस्ततो व्रजत माचिरम् ॥०३-२३५-१५॥
Order whatever you wish. We are pleased to see you. Having received all your wishes, depart now without delay. (03-235-15)
अनुज्ञातास्तु गन्धर्वाः पाण्डुपुत्रेण धीमता। सहाप्सरोभिः संहृष्टाश्चित्रसेनमुखा ययुः ॥०३-२३५-१६॥
But after being permitted by the wise son of Pāṇḍu, the delighted Gandharvas, headed by Citraseṇa, departed together with the Apsarases. (03-235-16)
देवराडपि गन्धर्वान्मृतांस्तान्समजीवयत्। दिव्येनामृतवर्षेण ये हताः कौरवैर्युधि ॥०३-२३५-१७॥
The king of the gods also revived those Gandharvas who had been slain by the Kauravas in battle, by means of a divine shower of nectar. (03-235-17)
ज्ञातींस्तानवमुच्याथ राजदारांश्च सर्वशः। कृत्वा च दुष्करं कर्म प्रीतियुक्ताश्च पाण्डवाः ॥०३-२३५-१८॥
The Pāṇḍavas, having released those relatives and all the royal women, and having accomplished the difficult task, were filled with satisfaction. (03-235-18)
सस्त्रीकुमारैः कुरुभिः पूज्यमाना महारथाः। बभ्राजिरे महात्मानः कुरुमध्ये यथाग्नयः ॥०३-२३५-१९॥
Honored by the women and boys of the Kurus, the great chariot-warriors, those great souls, shone among the Kurus like blazing fires. (03-235-19)
ततो दुर्योधनं मुच्य भ्रातृभिः सहितं तदा। युधिष्ठिरः सप्रणयमिदं वचनमब्रवीत् ॥०३-२३५-२०॥
Then, after Duryodhana was released along with his brothers, Yudhishthira affectionately spoke these words. (03-235-20)
मा स्म तात पुनः कार्षीरीदृशं साहसं क्वचित्। न हि साहसकर्तारः सुखमेधन्ति भारत ॥०३-२३५-२१॥
Dear one, do not ever again perform such rashness. Indeed, those who act recklessly do not find happiness, O Bhārata. (03-235-21)
स्वस्तिमान्सहितः सर्वैर्भ्रातृभिः कुरुनन्दन। गृहान्व्रज यथाकामं वैमनस्यं च मा कृथाः ॥०३-२३५-२२॥
O Kurunandana, depart to your homes with all your brothers in well-being and as you desire, and do not cause any enmity. (03-235-22)
पाण्डवेनाभ्यनुज्ञातो राजा दुर्योधनस्तदा। विदीर्यमाणो व्रीडेन जगाम नगरं प्रति ॥०३-२३५-२३॥
Then, having been permitted by the Pāṇḍava, King Duryodhana, torn with shame, went towards the city. (03-235-23)
तस्मिन्गते कौरवेये कुन्तीपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः। भ्रातृभिः सहितो वीरः पूज्यमानो द्विजातिभिः ॥०३-२३५-२४॥
When the Kaurava had departed, Yudhiṣṭhira, the son of Kunti, heroically together with his brothers, was honored by the twice-born. (03-235-24)
तपोधनैश्च तैः सर्वैर्वृतः शक्र इवामरैः। वने द्वैतवने तस्मिन्विजहार मुदा युतः ॥०३-२३५-२५॥
Surrounded by all those ascetics like Indra is by the immortals, he sported joyfully in that Dvaita forest.
