वैशम्पायन उवाच॥
Vaiśampāyana said.
ततो विजित्य सङ्ग्रामे कुरून्गोवृषभेक्षणः। समानयामास तदा विराटस्य धनं महत् ॥०४-६२-१॥
Afterwards, having defeated the Kurus in battle, Arjuna (the bull-eyed one) brought back the great wealth of Virāṭa. (04-62-1)
गतेषु च प्रभग्नेषु धार्तराष्ट्रेषु सर्वशः। वनान्निष्क्रम्य गहनाद्बहवः कुरुसैनिकाः ॥०४-६२-२॥
When the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra had departed and were scattered in every way, many Kuru soldiers came out from the dense forest. (04-62-2)
भयात्सन्त्रस्तमनसः समाजग्मुस्ततस्ततः। मुक्तकेशा व्यदृश्यन्त स्थिताः प्राञ्जलयस्तदा ॥०४-६२-३॥
From fear, with terrified minds, they gathered from all directions. With loosened hair, they stood with joined palms at that time. (04-62-3)
क्षुत्पिपासापरिश्रान्ता विदेशस्था विचेतसः। ऊचुः प्रणम्य सम्भ्रान्ताः पार्थ किं करवाम ते ॥०४-६२-४॥
Exhausted by hunger and thirst, residing in a foreign land and distressed, they respectfully bowed and confusedly said, "O Pārtha, what shall we do for you?" (04-62-4)
अर्जुन उवाच॥
Arjuna said.
स्वस्ति व्रजत भद्रं वो न भेतव्यं कथञ्चन। नाहमार्ताञ्जिघांसामि भृशमाश्वासयामि वः ॥०४-६२-५॥
Go with welfare, may good be to you—there is nothing to fear in any way. I do not intend to harm the afflicted; I greatly comfort you. (04-62-5)
वैशम्पायन उवाच॥
Vaiśampāyana said.
तस्य तामभयां वाचं श्रुत्वा योधाः समागताः। आयुःकीर्तियशोदाभिस्तमाशिर्भिरनन्दयन् ॥०४-६२-६॥
Hearing his fearless speech, the assembled warriors delighted him with blessings that granted longevity, fame, and glory. (04-62-6)
ततो निवृत्ताः कुरवः प्रभग्ना वशमास्थिताः। पन्थानमुपसङ्गम्य फल्गुनो वाक्यमब्रवीत् ॥०४-६२-७॥
Thereupon, the Kurus, having withdrawn and being utterly shattered and brought under control, entered the path; Phalguna (Arjuna), having approached, spoke these words. (04-62-7)
राजपुत्र प्रत्यवेक्ष समानीतानि सर्वशः। गोकुलानि महाबाहो वीर गोपालकैः सह ॥०४-६२-८॥
O prince, O mighty-armed hero, inspect all the assembled herds of cows together with the cowherds. (04-62-8)
ततोऽपराह्णे यास्यामो विराटनगरं प्रति। आश्वास्य पाययित्वा च परिप्लाव्य च वाजिनः ॥०४-६२-९॥
Then, in the afternoon, we shall proceed to the city of Virāṭa, having refreshed, watered, and bathed the horses. (04-62-9)
गच्छन्तु त्वरिताश्चैव गोपालाः प्रेषितास्त्वया। नगरे प्रियमाख्यातुं घोषयन्तु च ते जयम् ॥०४-६२-१०॥
Let the swift herdsmen you have sent go; in the city let them announce the good news and proclaim your victory. (04-62-10)
वैशम्पायन उवाच॥
Vaiśampāyana said.
उत्तरस्त्वरमाणोऽथ दूतानाज्ञापयत्ततः। वचनादर्जुनस्यैव आचक्षध्वं जयं मम ॥०४-६२-११॥
Uttara, quickly, then ordered the messengers: "Report my victory just as Arjuna said." (04-62-11)
