अथैनां रुपिणीं साध्वीमुपातिष्ठदुपश्रुतिः। तां वयोरूपसम्पन्नां दृष्ट्वा देवीमुपस्थिताम् ॥५-१४-१॥
athaināṃ rupiṇīṃ sādhvīmupātiṣṭhadupaśrutiḥ। tāṃ vayorūpasampannāṃ dṛṣṭvā devīmupasthitām ॥5-14-1॥
[अथ (atha) - then; एनाम् (enām) - her; रुपिणीम् (rupiṇīm) - beautiful; साध्वीम् (sādhvīm) - virtuous; उपातिष्ठत् (upātiṣṭhat) - approached; उपश्रुतिः (upaśrutiḥ) - a divine voice; ताम् (tām) - her; वयः (vayaḥ) - youth; रूप (rūpa) - beauty; सम्पन्नाम् (sampannām) - endowed with; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - seeing; देवीम् (devīm) - goddess; उपस्थिताम् (upasthitām) - present;]
(Then a divine voice approached her, the beautiful and virtuous one. Seeing her endowed with youth and beauty, the goddess was present.)

(Indrani, delighted, having worshipped her, asked: "I wish to know you. Who are you? Tell me, O beautiful-faced one.")

उपश्रुतिरहं देवि तवान्तिकमुपागता। दर्शनं चैव सम्प्राप्ता तव सत्येन तोषिता ॥५-१४-३॥

(I have heard, O goddess, and have come into your presence. Indeed, having obtained your sight, I am pleased by your truth.)

पतिव्रतासि युक्ता च यमेन नियमेन च। दर्शयिष्यामि ते शक्रं देवं वृत्रनिषूदनम् ॥ क्षिप्रमन्वेहि भद्रं ते द्रक्ष्यसे सुरसत्तमम् ॥५-१४-४॥

[पतिव्रता (pativratā) - devoted to husband; असि (asi) - you are; युक्ता (yuktā) - engaged; च (ca) - and; यमेन (yamena) - by restraint; नियमेन (niyamena) - by discipline; च (ca) - and; दर्शयिष्यामि (darśayiṣyāmi) - I will show; ते (te) - to you; शक्रम् (śakram) - Indra; देवम् (devam) - god; वृत्रनिषूदनम् (vṛtraniṣūdanam) - slayer of Vṛtra; क्षिप्रम् (kṣipram) - quickly; अन्वेहि (anvehi) - follow; भद्रम् (bhadram) - good; ते (te) - to you; द्रक्ष्यसे (drakṣyase) - you will see; सुरसत्तमम् (surasattamam) - best of gods;]
(You are devoted to your husband and engaged in restraint and discipline. I will show you Indra, the god and slayer of Vṛtra. Quickly follow, good will come to you, you will see the best of gods.)

ततस्तां प्रस्थितां देवीमिन्द्राणी सा समन्वगात्। देवारण्यान्यतिक्रम्य पर्वतांश्च बहूंस्ततः ॥ हिमवन्तमतिक्रम्य उत्तरं पार्श्वमागमत् ॥५-१४-५॥
tatastāṃ prasthitāṃ devīm indrāṇī sā samanvagāt। devāraṇyānyatikramya parvatāṃśca bahūṃstataḥ ॥ himavantamatikramya uttaraṃ pārśvamāgamat ॥5-14-5॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; तां (tāṃ) - her; प्रस्थितां (prasthitāṃ) - departed; देवीम् (devīm) - goddess; इन्द्राणी (indrāṇī) - Indrani; सा (sā) - she; समान्वगात् (samanvagāt) - followed; देव (deva) - divine; अरण्यानि (araṇyāni) - forests; अतिक्रम्य (atikramya) - crossing; पर्वतान् (parvatān) - mountains; च (ca) - and; बहून् (bahūn) - many; ततः (tataḥ) - then; हिमवन्तम् (himavantam) - Himalayas; अतिक्रम्य (atikramya) - crossing; उत्तरं (uttaraṃ) - northern; पार्श्वम् (pārśvam) - side; आगमत् (āgamat) - arrived;]
(Then Indrani, the goddess, followed her as she departed, crossing the divine forests and many mountains. Then, crossing the Himalayas, she arrived at the northern side.)

समुद्रं च समासाद्य बहुयोजनविस्तृतम्। आससाद महाद्वीपं नानाद्रुमलतावृतम् ॥५-१४-६॥

[समुद्रं (samudraṁ) - ocean; च (ca) - and; समासाद्य (samāsādya) - having reached; बहुयोजनविस्तृतम् (bahuyojanavistṛtam) - extensive for many yojanas; आससाद (āsasāda) - approached; महाद्वीपं (mahādvīpaṁ) - great island; नानाद्रुमलतावृतम् (nānādrumalatāvṛtam) - covered with various trees and creepers;]
(Having reached the ocean, extensive for many yojanas, he approached the great island covered with various trees and creepers.)

तत्रापश्यत्सरो दिव्यं नानाशकुनिभिर्वृतम्। शतयोजनविस्तीर्णं तावदेवायतं शुभम् ॥५-१४-७॥
tatrāpaśyatsaro divyaṃ nānāśakunibhirvṛtam। śatayojanavistīrṇaṃ tāvadevāyataṃ śubham ॥5-14-7॥
[तत्र (tatra) - there; अपश्यत् (apaśyat) - saw; सरः (saraḥ) - lake; दिव्यम् (divyam) - divine; नानाशकुनिभिः (nānāśakunibhiḥ) - with various birds; वृतम् (vṛtam) - surrounded; शतयोजनविस्तीर्णम् (śatayojanavistīrṇam) - hundred yojanas wide; तावत् (tāvat) - equally; एव (eva) - indeed; आयतम् (āyatam) - long; शुभम् (śubham) - beautiful;]
(There he saw a divine lake surrounded by various birds, a hundred yojanas wide and equally long, beautiful.)

तत्र दिव्यानि पद्मानि पञ्चवर्णानि भारत। षट्पदैरुपगीतानि प्रफुल्लानि सहस्रशः ॥५-१४-८॥
tatra divyāni padmāni pañcavarṇāni bhārata। ṣaṭpadairupagītāni praphullāni sahasraśaḥ ॥5-14-8॥
[तत्र (tatra) - there; दिव्यानि (divyāni) - divine; पद्मानि (padmāni) - lotuses; पञ्चवर्णानि (pañcavarṇāni) - five-colored; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata; षट्पदैः (ṣaṭpadaiḥ) - by bees; उपगीतानि (upagītāni) - sung; प्रफुल्लानि (praphullāni) - blooming; सहस्रशः (sahasraśaḥ) - in thousands;]
(There, O Bhārata, divine lotuses of five colors, sung by bees, are blooming in thousands.)

पद्मस्य भित्त्वा नालं च विवेश सहिता तया। बिसतन्तुप्रविष्टं च तत्रापश्यच्छतक्रतुम् ॥५-१४-९॥
padmasya bhittvā nālaṃ ca viveśa sahitā tayā। bisatantupraviṣṭaṃ ca tatrāpaśyacchatakratum ॥5-14-9॥
[पद्मस्य (padmasya) - of the lotus; भित्त्वा (bhittvā) - having pierced; नालं (nālam) - the stalk; च (ca) - and; विवेश (viveśa) - entered; सहिता (sahitā) - together; तया (tayā) - with her; बिसतन्तुप्रविष्टं (bisatantupraviṣṭaṃ) - entered the lotus fiber; च (ca) - and; तत्र (tatra) - there; अपश्यत् (apaśyat) - saw; शतक्रतुम् (śatakratum) - Indra;]
(Having pierced the stalk of the lotus, she entered together with her, and there saw Indra who had entered the lotus fiber.)

तं दृष्ट्वा च सुसूक्ष्मेण रूपेणावस्थितं प्रभुम्। सूक्ष्मरूपधरा देवी बभूवोपश्रुतिश्च सा ॥५-१४-१०॥
taṁ dṛṣṭvā ca susūkṣmeṇa rūpeṇāvasthitaṁ prabhum। sūkṣmarūpadharā devī babhūvopaśrutiśca sā ॥5-14-10॥
[तं (taṁ) - him; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; च (ca) - and; सुसूक्ष्मेण (susūkṣmeṇa) - very subtle; रूपेण (rūpeṇa) - form; आवस्थितं (āvasthitaṁ) - situated; प्रभुम् (prabhum) - lord; सूक्ष्मरूपधरा (sūkṣmarūpadharā) - assuming a subtle form; देवी (devī) - goddess; बभूव (babhūva) - became; उपश्रुतिः (upaśrutiḥ) - hearing; च (ca) - and; सा (sā) - she;]
(Having seen him situated in a very subtle form, the goddess also assumed a subtle form and became hearing.)
Upon seeing the lord in a very subtle form, the goddess transformed herself into a subtle form and became the embodiment of hearing.
इन्द्रं तुष्टाव चेन्द्राणी विश्रुतैः पूर्वकर्मभिः। स्तूयमानस्ततो देवः शचीमाह पुरंदरः ॥५-१४-११॥
indraṁ tuṣṭāva cendrāṇī viśrutaiḥ pūrvakarmabhiḥ। stūyamānastato devaḥ śacīmāha puraṁdaraḥ ॥5-14-11॥
[इन्द्रं (indraṁ) - Indra; तुष्टाव (tuṣṭāva) - praised; च (ca) - and; इन्द्राणी (indrāṇī) - Indrani; विश्रुतैः (viśrutaiḥ) - famous; पूर्वकर्मभिः (pūrvakarmabhiḥ) - by past deeds; स्तूयमानः (stūyamānaḥ) - being praised; ततः (tataḥ) - then; देवः (devaḥ) - the god; शचीम् (śacīm) - to Shachi; आह (āha) - said; पुरंदरः (puraṁdaraḥ) - Purandara;]
(Indra was praised by Indrani with famous past deeds. Then the god, being praised, Purandara, said to Shachi.)

किमर्थमसि सम्प्राप्ता विज्ञातश्च कथं त्वहम्। ततः सा कथयामास नहुषस्य विचेष्टितम् ॥५-१४-१२॥
kimarthamasi samprāptā vijñātaśca kathaṁ tvaham। tataḥ sā kathayāmāsa nahuṣasya viceṣṭitam ॥5-14-12॥
[किमर्थम् (kimartham) - for what purpose; असि (asi) - are you; सम्प्राप्ता (samprāptā) - arrived; विज्ञातः (vijñātaḥ) - known; च (ca) - and; कथम् (katham) - how; त्वम् (tvam) - you; अहम् (aham) - I; ततः (tataḥ) - then; सा (sā) - she; कथयामास (kathayāmāsa) - told; नहुषस्य (nahuṣasya) - of Nahusha; विचेष्टितम् (viceṣṭitam) - actions;]
(For what purpose have you arrived and how am I known? Then she told the actions of Nahusha.)
Why have you come here and how do you know me? Then she narrated the actions of Nahusha.
इन्द्रत्वं त्रिषु लोकेषु प्राप्य वीर्यमदान्वितः। दर्पाविष्टश्च दुष्टात्मा मामुवाच शतक्रतो ॥ उपतिष्ठ मामिति क्रूरः कालं च कृतवान्मम ॥५-१४-१३॥
indratvaṃ triṣu lokeṣu prāpya vīryamadānvitaḥ। darpāviṣṭaśca duṣṭātmā māmuvāca śatakrato ॥ upatiṣṭha mām iti krūraḥ kālaṃ ca kṛtavān mama ॥5-14-13॥
[इन्द्रत्वं (indratvam) - Indrahood; त्रिषु (triṣu) - in the three; लोकेषु (lokeṣu) - worlds; प्राप्य (prāpya) - having obtained; वीर्यमदान्वितः (vīryamadānvitaḥ) - endowed with heroism and pride; दर्पाविष्टः (darpāviṣṭaḥ) - overcome with arrogance; च (ca) - and; दुष्टात्मा (duṣṭātmā) - wicked soul; मामुवाच (māmuvāca) - said to me; शतक्रतो (śatakrato) - O Shatakratu; उपतिष्ठ (upatiṣṭha) - serve; माम् (mām) - me; इति (iti) - thus; क्रूरः (krūraḥ) - cruel; कालं (kālam) - time; च (ca) - and; कृतवान् (kṛtavān) - made; मम (mama) - my;]
(Having obtained Indrahood in the three worlds, endowed with heroism and pride, overcome with arrogance, and being a wicked soul, he said to me, O Shatakratu, 'Serve me,' thus the cruel one made my time.)
Having achieved the status of Indra in the three worlds, filled with heroism and pride, and overcome by arrogance, the wicked soul addressed me, O Shatakratu, saying, 'Serve me.' Thus, the cruel one dictated my fate.
यदि न त्रास्यसि विभो करिष्यति स मां वशे। एतेन चाहं सन्तप्ता प्राप्ता शक्र तवान्तिकम् ॥ जहि रौद्रं महाबाहो नहुषं पापनिश्चयम् ॥५-१४-१४॥
yadi na trāsyasi vibho kariṣyati sa māṃ vaśe। etena cāhaṃ santaptā prāptā śakra tavāntikam ॥ jahi raudraṃ mahābāho nahuṣaṃ pāpaniścayam ॥5-14-14॥
[यदि (yadi) - if; न (na) - not; त्रास्यसि (trāsyasi) - you frighten; विभो (vibho) - O Lord; करिष्यति (kariṣyati) - he will do; स (sa) - he; मां (māṃ) - me; वशे (vaśe) - under control; एतेन (etena) - by this; च (ca) - and; अहम् (aham) - I; सन्तप्ता (santaptā) - tormented; प्राप्ता (prāptā) - have come; शक्र (śakra) - O Indra; तव (tava) - your; अन्तिकम् (antikam) - presence; जहि (jahi) - destroy; रौद्रं (raudraṃ) - fierce; महाबाहो (mahābāho) - O mighty-armed one; नहुषं (nahuṣaṃ) - Nahusha; पापनिश्चयम् (pāpaniścayam) - wicked-minded;]
(If you do not frighten him, O Lord, he will bring me under control. Tormented by this, I have come to your presence, O Indra. Destroy the fierce Nahusha, O mighty-armed one, who is wicked-minded.)

(Reveal yourself, O destroyer of demons and giants; attain splendor, O mighty one; rule the divine kingdom.)
