sañjaya uvāca॥
Sanjaya spoke:
karṇasya vacanaṃ śrutvā keśavaḥ paravīrahā । uvāca prahasanvākyaṃ smitapūrvamidaṃ tadā ॥5-140-1॥
Upon hearing Karna's words, Keshava, the slayer of enemy heroes, responded with a smile, saying these words.
api tvāṃ na tapetkarṇa rājyalābhopapādanā । mayā dattāṃ hi pṛthivīṃ na praśāsitumicchasi ॥5-140-2॥
Indeed, Karna, does it not trouble you that you do not wish to rule the earth that I have given, by acquiring the kingdom?
dhruvo jayaḥ pāṇḍavānāmitīdaṃ; na saṃśayaḥ kaścana vidyate'tra । jayadhvajo dṛśyate pāṇḍavasya; samucchrito vānararāja ugraḥ ॥5-140-3॥
The victory of the Pandavas is assured; there is no doubt about it. The victory banner of the Pandava is visible, and the fierce monkey king is raised high.
divyā māyā vihitā bhauvaneṇa; samucchr̥tā indraketuprakāśā । divyāni bhūtāni bhayāvahāni; dṛśyanti caivātra bhayānakāni ॥5-140-4॥
A divine illusion created by the celestial, raised and shining like Indra's banner, reveals divine beings that are both fearful and terrifying, seen here indeed.
na sajjate śailavanaspatibhya; ūrdhvaṃ tiryagyojanamātrarūpaḥ । śrīmāndhvajaḥ karṇa dhanañjayasya; samucchritaḥ pāvakatulyarūpaḥ ॥5-140-5॥
The glorious banner of Karna and Dhananjaya, resembling fire, stands tall, unattached to mountains and trees, extending upwards and horizontally for a yojana.
yadā drakṣyasi saṅgrāme śvetāśvaṃ kṛṣṇasārathim । aindramastraṃ vikurvāṇamubhe caivāgnimārute ॥5-140-6॥
When you see in the battle the one with white horses and Krishna as the charioteer, wielding Indra's weapon, it will be both Agni and Marut indeed.
gāṇḍīvasya ca nirghoṣaṃ visphūrjitamivāśaneḥ । na tadā bhavitā tretā na kṛtaṃ dvāparaṃ na ca ॥5-140-7॥
The sound of Gandiva will be like the crack of thunder, and then there will be neither Treta, nor Krita, nor Dvapara.
yadā drakṣyasi saṅgrāme kuntīputraṃ yudhiṣṭhiram । japahomasamāyuktaṃ svāṃ rakṣantaṃ mahācamūm ॥5-140-8॥
When you see Yudhishthira, the son of Kunti, in the battle, engaged in prayers and rituals, protecting his great army.
ādityam iva durdharṣaṃ tapantaṃ śatruvāhinīm । na tadā bhavitā tretā na kṛtaṃ dvāparaṃ na ca ॥5-140-9॥
Like the sun, invincible and scorching the enemy forces, then neither the Tretā Yuga, nor the Kṛta Yuga, nor the Dvāpara Yuga will exist.
yadā drakṣyasi saṅgrāme bhīmasenaṃ mahābalam । duḥśāsanasya rudhiraṃ pītvā nṛtyantamāhave ॥5-140-10॥
When you witness the mighty Bhimasena in the battlefield, having drunk the blood of Duhshasana, dancing in the midst of the battle.
prabhinnam iva mātaṅgaṃ pratidviradaghātinam । na tadā bhavitā tretā na kṛtaṃ dvāparaṃ na ca ॥5-140-11॥
Like a broken elephant opposing an elephant slayer, then neither Tretā Yuga, nor Kṛta Yuga, nor Dvāpara Yuga will exist.
yadā drakṣyasi saṅgrāme mādrīputrau mahārathau । vāhinīṃ dhārtarāṣṭrāṇāṃ kṣobhayantau gajāviva ॥5-140-12॥
When you see the sons of Madri, the great warriors, causing turmoil in the army of Dhritarashtra's sons like elephants in battle.
vigāḍhe śastrasampāte paravīrarathārujau । na tadā bhavitā tretā na kṛtaṃ dvāparaṃ na ca ॥5-140-13॥
In the intense battle, where weapons clash and enemy heroes' chariots are destroyed, there will be no Tretā, Kṛta, or Dvāpara Yuga.
yadā drakṣyasi saṅgrāme droṇaṃ śāntanavaṃ kṛpam । suyodhanaṃ ca rājānaṃ saindhavaṃ ca jayadratham ॥5-140-14॥
When you see Drona, the son of Santanu, Kripa, King Suyodhana, and Jayadratha of Sindhu in the battle.
yuddhāyāpatatastūrṇaṃ vāritānsavyasācinā । na tadā bhavitā tretā na kṛtaṃ dvāparaṃ na ca ॥5-140-15॥
As they approached quickly for battle, they were restrained by Arjuna. At that time, neither the Tretā Yuga, nor the Kṛta Yuga, nor the Dvāpara Yuga will exist.
brūyāḥ karṇa ito gatvā droṇaṃ śāntanavaṃ kṛpam । saumyo'yaṃ vartate māsaḥ suprāpayavasendhanaḥ ॥5-140-16॥
You should inform Karna to go from here to Drona, the son of Shantanu, and Kripa, that this gentle month is well-supplied with clothes and fuel.
pakvauṣadhivanasphītaḥ phalavānalpamakṣikaḥ । niṣpaṅko rasavattoyo nātyuṣṇaśiśiraḥ sukhaḥ ॥5-140-17॥
The place is abundant with ripe medicinal plants, fruitful, and has few flies. The water is clear and juicy, neither too hot nor too cold, making it pleasant.
saptamāccāpi divasādamāvāsyā bhaviṣyati । saṅgrāmaṃ yojayettatra tāṃ hyāhuḥ śakradevatām ॥5-140-18॥
On the seventh day from now, the new moon will occur. It is said that a battle should be arranged there, as she is considered to be the deity of Indra.
tathā rājño vadeḥ sarvānye yuddhāyābhyupāgatāḥ । yadvo manīṣitaṃ tadvai sarvaṃ sampādayāmi vaḥ ॥5-140-19॥
Thus, at the king's command, all others have gathered for battle. Whatever you desire, I shall fulfill it entirely for you.
rājāno rājaputrāśca duryodhanavaśānugāḥ । prāpya śastreṇa nidhanaṃ prāpsyanti gatimuttamām ॥5-140-20॥
The kings and princes who follow Duryodhana will meet their end by weapons and will achieve the highest state.
