keśavasya tu tadvākyaṃ karṇaḥ śrutvā hitaṃ śubham । abravīdabhisampūjya kṛṣṇaṃ madhuniṣūdanam ॥ jānanmāṃ kiṃ mahābāho saṃmohayitumicchasi ॥5-141-1॥

(But having heard that speech of Keśava, Karṇa, having honored Kṛṣṇa, the slayer of Madhu, said: "O mighty-armed one, knowing me, why do you wish to delude me?")

योऽयं पृथिव्याः कार्त्स्न्येन विनाशः समुपस्थितः । निमित्तं तत्र शकुनिरहं दुःशासनस्तथा ॥ दुर्योधनश्च नृपतिर्धृतराष्ट्रसुतोऽभवत् ॥५-१४१-२॥
yo'yaṁ pṛthivyāḥ kārtsnyena vināśaḥ samupasthitaḥ । nimittaṁ tatra śakunirahaṁ duḥśāsanastathā ॥ duryodhanaśca nṛpatirdhṛtarāṣṭrasuto'bhavat ॥5-141-2॥

अहं चान्ये च राजानो यच्च तत्क्षत्रमण्डलम् । गाण्डीवाग्निं प्रवेक्ष्याम इति मे नास्ति संशयः ॥५-१४१-४२॥
ahaṃ cānye ca rājāno yacca tatkṣatramaṇḍalam । gāṇḍīvāgniṃ pravekṣyāma iti me nāsti saṃśayaḥ ॥5-141-42॥
[अहं (ahaṃ) - I; चान्ये (cānye) - and others; च (ca) - and; राजानः (rājānaḥ) - kings; यत् (yat) - which; च (ca) - and; तत् (tat) - that; क्षत्रमण्डलम् (kṣatramaṇḍalam) - Kshatriya circle; गाण्डीवाग्निम् (gāṇḍīvāgnim) - Gandiva fire; प्रवेक्ष्याम (pravekṣyāma) - will enter; इति (iti) - thus; मे (me) - my; न (na) - not; अस्ति (asti) - is; संशयः (saṃśayaḥ) - doubt;]
(I and other kings, and that Kshatriya circle, will enter the Gandiva fire; thus, there is no doubt in my mind.)
I, along with other kings and the entire Kshatriya circle, will enter the Gandiva fire; of this, I have no doubt.
कृष्ण उवाच॥

Krishna spoke:
उपस्थितविनाशेयं नूनमद्य वसुन्धरा । तथा हि मे वचः कर्ण नोपैति हृदयं तव ॥५-१४१-४३॥
upasthitavināśeyaṃ nūnamadya vasundharā । tathā hi me vacaḥ karṇa nopaiti hṛdayaṃ tava ॥5-141-43॥
[उपस्थितविनाशा (upasthitavināśā) - present destruction; इयं (iyaṃ) - this; नूनम् (nūnam) - indeed; अद्य (adya) - today; वसुन्धरा (vasundharā) - earth; तथा (tathā) - thus; हि (hi) - for; मे (me) - my; वचः (vacaḥ) - words; कर्ण (karṇa) - ears; न (na) - not; उपैति (upaiti) - reach; हृदयं (hṛdayaṃ) - heart; तव (tava) - your;]
(The present destruction of the earth is indeed today, for thus my words do not reach your ears, your heart.)
The earth is indeed facing destruction today, as my words do not reach your ears or your heart.
सर्वेषां तात भूतानां विनाशे समुपस्थिते । अनयो नयसङ्काशो हृदयान्नापसर्पति ॥५-१४१-४४॥
sarveṣāṃ tāta bhūtānāṃ vināśe samupasthite । anayo nayasaṅkāśo hṛdayānnāpasarpati ॥5-141-44॥
[सर्वेषां (sarveṣāṃ) - of all; तात (tāta) - dear; भूतानां (bhūtānāṃ) - beings; विनाशे (vināśe) - destruction; समुपस्थिते (samupasthite) - approaching; अनयो (anayo) - this; नयसङ्काशः (nayasaṅkāśaḥ) - like a guide; हृदयात् (hṛdayāt) - from the heart; न (na) - not; अपसर्पति (apasarpati) - departs;]
(When the destruction of all beings is approaching, dear, this guide-like presence does not depart from the heart.)

api tvā kṛṣṇa paśyāma jīvantosmānmahāraṇāt । samuttīrṇā mahābāho vīrakṣayavināśanāt ॥5-141-45॥
[अपि (api) - also; त्वा (tvā) - you; कृष्ण (kṛṣṇa) - Kṛṣṇa; पश्याम (paśyāma) - we see; जीवन्तः (jīvantaḥ) - alive; अस्मान् (asmān) - us; महारणात् (mahāraṇāt) - from the great battle; समुत्तीर्णाः (samuttīrṇāḥ) - having emerged; महाबाहो (mahābāho) - O mighty-armed one; वीरक्षयविनाशनात् (vīrakṣayavināśanāt) - from the destruction of heroes;]
(Also, O mighty-armed Kṛṣṇa, we see you alive, having emerged from the great battle and the destruction of heroes.)
O mighty-armed Kṛṣṇa, we are relieved to see you alive, having survived the great battle and the destruction of heroes.
अथ वा सङ्गमः कृष्ण स्वर्गे नो भविता ध्रुवम् । तत्रेदानीं समेष्यामः पुनः सार्धं त्वयानघ ॥५-१४१-४६॥
atha vā saṅgamaḥ kṛṣṇa svarge no bhavitā dhruvam । tatredānīṃ sameṣyāmaḥ punaḥ sārdhaṃ tvayānagha ॥5-141-46॥
[अथ (atha) - then; वा (vā) - or; सङ्गमः (saṅgamaḥ) - meeting; कृष्ण (kṛṣṇa) - Krishna; स्वर्गे (svarge) - in heaven; नः (naḥ) - our; भविता (bhavitā) - will be; ध्रुवम् (dhruvam) - certainly; तत्र (tatra) - there; इदानीं (idānīṃ) - now; समेष्यामः (sameṣyāmaḥ) - we shall meet; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; सार्धं (sārdhaṃ) - together; त्वया (tvayā) - with you; अनघ (anagha) - sinless one;]
(Then or meeting, Krishna, in heaven our will be certainly. There now we shall meet again together with you, sinless one.)
Then, O Krishna, if not here, certainly our meeting will be in heaven. There, now, we shall meet again together with you, O sinless one.
सञ्जय उवाच॥

[सञ्जय (sañjaya) - Sanjaya; उवाच (uvāca) - said;]

इत्युक्त्वा माधवं कर्णः परिष्वज्य च पीडितम् । विसर्जितः केशवेन रथोपस्थादवातरत् ॥५-१४१-४७॥
ityuktvā mādhavaṃ karṇaḥ pariṣvajya ca pīḍitam । visarjitaḥ keśavena rathopasthādavātarat ॥5-141-47॥
[इति (iti) - thus; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having spoken; माधवम् (mādhavam) - to Mādhava; कर्णः (karṇaḥ) - Karṇa; परिष्वज्य (pariṣvajya) - embracing; च (ca) - and; पीडितम् (pīḍitam) - afflicted; विसर्जितः (visarjitaḥ) - dismissed; केशवेन (keśavena) - by Keśava; रथोपस्थात् (rathopasthāt) - from the chariot; अवातरत् (avātarat) - descended;]
(Thus, having spoken to Mādhava, Karṇa, embracing and afflicted, was dismissed by Keśava and descended from the chariot.)
After speaking thus to Mādhava, Karṇa, who was both embracing and afflicted, was dismissed by Keśava and descended from the chariot.
ततः स्वरथमास्थाय जाम्बूनदविभूषितम् । सहास्माभिर्निववृते राधेयो दीनमानसः ॥५-१४१-४८॥
tataḥ svaratham āsthāya jāmbūnadavibhūṣitam । sahāsmābhirnivavṛte rādheyo dīnamānasaḥ ॥5-141-48॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; स्वरथम् (svaratham) - his own chariot; आस्थाय (āsthāya) - having mounted; जाम्बूनदविभूषितम् (jāmbūnadavibhūṣitam) - adorned with gold; सह (saha) - with; अस्माभिः (asmābhiḥ) - us; निववृते (nivavṛte) - returned; राधेयः (rādheyaḥ) - Karna; दीनमानसः (dīnamānasaḥ) - with a sorrowful mind;]
(Then, having mounted his own chariot adorned with gold, Karna returned with us, with a sorrowful mind.)

ततः शीघ्रतरं प्रायात्केशवः सहसात्यकिः । पुनरुच्चारयन्वाणीं याहि याहीति सारथिम् ॥५-१४१-४९॥
tataḥ śīghrataraṃ prāyāt keśavaḥ sahasātyakiḥ । punar uccārayan vāṇīṃ yāhi yāhīti sārathim ॥5-141-49॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; शीघ्रतरं (śīghrataraṃ) - more swiftly; प्रायात् (prāyāt) - went; केशवः (keśavaḥ) - Keshava; सहसात्यकिः (sahasātyakiḥ) - with Satyaki; पुनः (punar) - again; उच्चारयन् (uccārayan) - uttering; वाणीं (vāṇīṃ) - words; याहि (yāhi) - go; याहि (yāhi) - go; इति (iti) - thus; सारथिम् (sārathim) - to the charioteer;]
(Then Keshava went more swiftly with Satyaki, again uttering the words "Go, go" to the charioteer.)
Then Keshava, accompanied by Satyaki, quickly proceeded, repeatedly urging the charioteer to move forward with the words "Go, go."
