Core and Pancharatra: Special medicine was administered to Duryodhana to heal his wounds. Yudhishthira, observing the fierce circular formation, arranged his troops into a diamond formation on the seventh day of the war.

एते चान्ये च बहवस्त्वदर्थे त्यक्तजीविताः। देवानपि रणे जेतुं समर्था इति मे मतिः ॥६-७७-७॥
ete cānye ca bahavas tvadarthe tyaktajīvitāḥ। devān api raṇe jetuṃ samarthā iti me matiḥ ॥6-77-7॥

(These and many others, having sacrificed their lives for your sake, are capable of conquering even the gods in battle; thus is my opinion.)
These warriors, along with many others, have sacrificed their lives for you and are capable of defeating even the gods in battle. This is my belief.
अवश्यं तु मया राजंस्तव वाच्यं हितं सदा। अशक्याः पाण्डवा जेतुं देवैरपि सवासवैः ॥ वासुदेवसहायाश्च महेन्द्रसमविक्रमाः ॥६-७७-८॥
avaśyaṃ tu mayā rājaṃstava vācyaṃ hitaṃ sadā। aśakyāḥ pāṇḍavā jetuṃ devairapi savāsavaiḥ ॥ vāsudevasahāyāśca mahendrasamavikramāḥ ॥6-77-8॥

(Certainly, O king, it is always beneficial for me to speak to you. The Pandavas, assisted by Vasudeva and equal in valor to Indra, are impossible to conquer even by the gods with Indra.)
Certainly, O king, I must always speak what is beneficial to you. The Pandavas, with the help of Vasudeva and possessing valor equal to Indra, cannot be defeated even by the gods along with Indra.
सर्वथाहं तु राजेन्द्र करिष्ये वचनं तव। पाण्डवान्वा रणे जेष्ये मां वा जेष्यन्ति पाण्डवाः ॥६-७७-९॥
sarvathāhaṃ tu rājendra kariṣye vacanaṃ tava। pāṇḍavānvā raṇe jeṣye māṃ vā jeṣyanti pāṇḍavāḥ ॥6-77-9॥

(In every way, I, O king, will do your word. Either I will conquer the Pandavas in battle, or the Pandavas will conquer me.)

एवमुक्त्वा ददौ चास्मै विशल्यकरणीं शुभाम्। ओषधीं वीर्यसम्पन्नां विशल्यश्चाभवत्तदा ॥६-७७-१०॥
evamuktvā dadau cāsmai viśalyakaraṇīṃ śubhām। oṣadhīṃ vīryasampannāṃ viśalyaścābhavattadā ॥6-77-10॥

(Thus having spoken, he gave him the auspicious herb that removes arrows, full of potency, and then he became free from arrows.)

(Then, in the clear morning, the powerful Bhishma himself arranged the army formation with his own army, being an expert in formations.)

भीष्मेण धार्तराष्ट्राणां व्यूढः प्रत्यङ्मुखो युधि। मण्डलः सुमहाव्यूहो दुर्भेद्योऽमित्रघातिनाम् ॥ सर्वतः शुशुभे राजन्रणेऽरीणां दुरासदः ॥६-७७-२०॥

teṣāṃ rājasahasrāṇāṃ hayānāṃ dantināṃ tathā। dvābhyāṃ tribhiḥ śaraiścānyānpārtho vivyādha māriṣa ॥6-77-42॥
[तेषां (teṣām) - of them; राजसहस्राणां (rājasahasrāṇām) - of thousands of kings; हयानां (hayānām) - of horses; दन्तिनां (dantinām) - of elephants; तथा (tathā) - also; द्वाभ्यां (dvābhyām) - with two; त्रिभिः (tribhiḥ) - with three; शरैः (śaraiḥ) - with arrows; च (ca) - and; अन्यान् (anyān) - others; पार्थः (pārthaḥ) - Arjuna; विव्याध (vivyādha) - pierced; मारिष (māriṣa) - O lord;]
(Of them, of thousands of kings, of horses, and of elephants also, Arjuna pierced others with two or three arrows, O lord.)
Arjuna, with his skill, pierced through the ranks of thousands of kings, horses, and elephants, striking others with two or three arrows, O lord.
ते हन्यमानाः पार्थेन भीष्मं शान्तनवं ययुः। अगाधे मज्जमानानां भीष्मस्त्राताभवत्तदा ॥६-७७-४३॥
te hanyamānāḥ pārthena bhīṣmaṃ śāntanavaṃ yayuḥ। agādhe majjamānānāṃ bhīṣmastrātābhavattadā ॥6-77-43॥
[ते (te) - they; हन्यमानाः (hanyamānāḥ) - being killed; पार्थेन (pārthena) - by Arjuna; भीष्मं (bhīṣmaṃ) - Bhishma; शान्तनवं (śāntanavaṃ) - son of Shantanu; ययुः (yayuḥ) - went; अगाधे (agādhe) - in the unfathomable; मज्जमानानां (majjamānānāṃ) - of those sinking; भीष्मः (bhīṣmaḥ) - Bhishma; त्राता (trātā) - savior; अभवत् (abhavat) - became; तदा (tadā) - then;]
(They, being killed by Arjuna, went to Bhishma, the son of Shantanu. In the unfathomable, Bhishma became the savior of those sinking, then.)
As they were being slain by Arjuna, they sought refuge in Bhishma, the son of Shantanu. At that time, Bhishma became the savior for those who were sinking in the unfathomable depths.
आपतद्भिस्तु तैस्तत्र प्रभग्नं तावकं बलम्। सञ्चुक्षुभे महाराज वातैरिव महार्णवः ॥६-७७-४४॥
āpatadbhistu taistatra prabhagnaṃ tāvakaṃ balam। sañcukṣubhe mahārāja vātairiva mahārṇavaḥ ॥6-77-44॥
[आपतद्भिः (āpatadbhiḥ) - attacking; तु (tu) - but; तैः (taiḥ) - by them; तत्र (tatra) - there; प्रभग्नं (prabhagnaṃ) - broken; तावकं (tāvakaṃ) - your; बलम् (balam) - army; सञ्चुक्षुभे (sañcukṣubhe) - was agitated; महाराज (mahārāja) - O great king; वातैः (vātaiḥ) - by winds; इव (iva) - like; महार्णवः (mahārṇavaḥ) - great ocean;]
(But, O great king, your army was broken there by them attacking, and was agitated like a great ocean by winds.)
O great king, your army was shattered there by their attack and was agitated like a great ocean stirred by the winds.
