सौमदत्तेश्च वीरस्य भगदत्तस्य चोभयोः। अश्वत्थाम्नस्तथा तात शूराणां सुमहात्मनाम् ॥६-८५-४॥

अन्येषां चैव वीराणां मध्यगास्तनया मम। यदहन्यन्त सङ्ग्रामे किमन्यद्भागधेयतः ॥६-८५-५॥

न हि दुर्योधनो मन्दः पुरा प्रोक्तमबुध्यत। वार्यमाणो मया तात भीष्मेण विदुरेण च ॥६-८५-६॥
na hi duryodhano mandaḥ purā proktamabudhyata। vāryamāṇo mayā tāta bhīṣmeṇa vidureṇa ca ॥6-85-6॥

Duryodhana, in his foolishness, failed to comprehend the advice given to him earlier, despite being cautioned by me, dear one, as well as by Bhishma and Vidura.
गान्धार्या चैव दुर्मेधाः सततं हितकाम्यया। नावबुध्यत्पुरा मोहात्तस्य प्राप्तमिदं फलम् ॥६-८५-७॥
gāndhāryā caiva durmedhāḥ satataṃ hitakāmyayā। nāvabudhyatpurā mohāttasya prāptamidaṃ phalam ॥6-85-7॥

Gāndhārī, always desiring the welfare, did not realize the consequences of her actions due to her foolishness and delusion. This is the result he has obtained.
यद्भीमसेनः समरे पुत्रान्मम विचेतसः। अहन्यहनि सङ्क्रुद्धो नयते यमसादनम् ॥६-८५-८॥
yadbhīmasenaḥ samare putrānmama vicetasaḥ। ahanyahani saṅkruddho nayate yamasādanam ॥6-85-8॥
[यत् (yat) - when; भीमसेनः (bhīmasenaḥ) - Bhimasena; समरे (samare) - in battle; पुत्रान् (putrān) - sons; मम (mama) - my; विचेतसः (vicetasaḥ) - unconscious; अहनि (ahani) - day; अहनि (ahani) - by day; सङ्क्रुद्धः (saṅkruddhaḥ) - angry; नयते (nayate) - leads; यमसादनम् (yamasādanam) - to the abode of Yama;]

idaṃ tatsamanuprāptaṃ kṣatturvacanamuttamam। na buddhavānasi vibho procyamānaṃ hitaṃ tadā ॥6-85-9॥

(This excellent speech of the minister was attained. O lord, you did not understand the beneficial words being spoken then.)
The excellent advice given by the minister was not understood by you, O lord, at that time, even though it was beneficial.
निवारय सुतान्द्यूतात्पाण्डवान्मा द्रुहेति च। सुहृदां हितकामानां ब्रुवतां तत्तदेव च ॥६-८५-१०॥
nivāraya sutāndyūtātpāṇḍavānmā druheti ca। suhṛdāṃ hitakāmānāṃ bruvatāṃ tattadeva ca ॥6-85-10॥
[निवारय (nivāraya) - restrain; सुतान् (sutān) - sons; द्यूतात् (dyūtāt) - from gambling; पाण्डवान् (pāṇḍavān) - Pāṇḍavas; मा (mā) - do not; द्रुह (druha) - harm; इति (iti) - thus; च (ca) - and; सुहृदाम् (suhṛdām) - of friends; हितकामानाम् (hitakāmānām) - well-wishers; ब्रुवताम् (bruvatām) - speaking; तत्तदेव (tattadeva) - that very thing; च (ca) - and;]
(Restrain the sons from gambling, do not harm the Pāṇḍavas, thus and of friends, well-wishers speaking that very thing and.)
Restrain your sons from gambling and do not harm the Pāṇḍavas, as advised by the well-wishing friends who speak of the same repeatedly.
न शुश्रूषसि यद्वाक्यं मर्त्यः पथ्यमिवौषधम्। तदेव त्वामनुप्राप्तं वचनं साधु भाषितम् ॥६-८५-११॥
na śuśrūṣasi yadvākyaṃ martyaḥ pathyamivauṣadham। tadeva tvāmanuprāptaṃ vacanaṃ sādhu bhāṣitam ॥6-85-11॥
[न (na) - not; शुश्रूषसि (śuśrūṣasi) - you listen; यत् (yat) - which; वाक्यं (vākyaṃ) - word; मर्त्यः (martyaḥ) - mortal; पथ्यम् (pathyam) - beneficial; इव (iva) - like; औषधम् (auṣadham) - medicine; तत् (tat) - that; एव (eva) - indeed; त्वाम् (tvām) - to you; अनुप्राप्तम् (anuprāptam) - has come; वचनं (vacanaṃ) - speech; साधु (sādhu) - good; भाषितम् (bhāṣitam) - spoken;]
(The word which you, a mortal, do not listen to, like beneficial medicine, that very speech has indeed come to you, well spoken.)
The wise words that you, as a mortal, ignore like beneficial medicine, have now reached you, well articulated.
विदुरद्रोणभीष्माणां तथान्येषां हितैषिणाम्। अकृत्वा वचनं पथ्यं क्षयं गच्छन्ति कौरवाः ॥६-८५-१२॥
viduradroṇabhīṣmāṇāṃ tathānyeṣāṃ hitaiṣiṇām। akṛtvā vacanaṃ pathyaṃ kṣayaṃ gacchanti kauravāḥ ॥6-85-12॥
[विदुर (vidura) - Vidura; द्रोण (droṇa) - Drona; भीष्माणां (bhīṣmāṇāṃ) - of Bhishma; तथा (tathā) - and; अन्येषां (anyeṣāṃ) - of others; हितैषिणाम् (hitaiṣiṇām) - well-wishers; अकृत्वा (akṛtvā) - not following; वचनं (vacanaṃ) - advice; पथ्यं (pathyaṃ) - beneficial; क्षयं (kṣayaṃ) - destruction; गच्छन्ति (gacchanti) - go; कौरवाः (kauravāḥ) - Kauravas;]
(The Kauravas, not following the beneficial advice of Vidura, Drona, Bhishma, and other well-wishers, go to destruction.)
The Kauravas ignored the wise counsel of Vidura, Drona, Bhishma, and others who wished them well, leading them to their downfall.
तदेतत्समतिक्रान्तं पूर्वमेव विशां पते। तस्मान्मे शृणु तत्त्वेन यथा युद्धमवर्तत ॥६-८५-१३॥
tadetatsamatikrāntaṃ pūrvameva viśāṃ pate। tasmānme śṛṇu tattvena yathā yuddhamavartata ॥6-85-13॥

मध्याह्ने सुमहारौद्रः सङ्ग्रामः समपद्यत। लोकक्षयकरो राजंस्तन्मे निगदतः शृणु ॥६-८५-१४॥
madhyāhne sumahāraudraḥ saṅgrāmaḥ samapadyata। lokakṣayakaro rājanstanme nigadataḥ śṛṇu ॥6-85-14॥
