ततः काम्बोजमुख्यानां नदीजानां च वाजिनाम् । आरट्टानां महीजानां सिन्धुजानां च सर्वशः ॥६-८६-३॥

वनायुजानां शुभ्राणां तथा पर्वतवासिनाम् । ये चापरे तित्तिरजा जवना वातरंहसः ॥६-८६-४॥

(Adorned with gold, these well-arranged armors, by horses swift as the wind, the strong son of Pandava advanced that army, joyful in appearance, scorcher of foes.)

(Handsome, endowed with valor, virtuous, truly courageous, he quickly went to Indra's realm, having heard that Arjuna had gone there.)

सोऽभिगम्य महात्मानं पितरं सत्यविक्रमम् । अभ्यवादयदव्यग्रो विनयेन कृताञ्जलिः ॥ इरावानस्मि भद्रं ते पुत्रश्चाहं तवाभिभो ॥६-८६-११॥
so'bhigamya mahātmānaṃ pitaraṃ satyavikramam । abhyavādayadavyagro vinayena kṛtāñjaliḥ ॥ irāvān asmi bhadraṃ te putraś cāhaṃ tavābhibho ॥6-86-11॥

(He, having approached the great-souled father of true prowess, saluted calmly with humility and folded hands. "I am Iravan, blessings to you, I am your son, O lord.")

मातुः समागमो यश्च तत्सर्वं प्रत्यवेदयत् । तच्च सर्वं यथावृत्तमनुसस्मार पाण्डवः ॥६-८६-१२॥
mātuḥ samāgamo yaśca tatsarvaṃ pratyavedayat । tacca sarvaṃ yathāvṛttamanusasmāra pāṇḍavaḥ ॥6-86-12॥

परिष्वज्य सुतं चापि सोऽऽत्मनः सदृशं गुणैः । प्रीतिमानभवत्पार्थो देवराजनिवेशने ॥६-८६-१३॥
pariṣvajya sutaṃ cāpi so''tmanaḥ sadṛśaṃ guṇaiḥ । prītimānabhavatpārtho devarājaniveśane ॥6-86-13॥

(Having embraced his son, who was similar to himself in qualities, Arjuna became pleased in the abode of the king of gods.)

सोऽर्जुनेन समाज्ञप्तो देवलोके तदा नृप । प्रीतिपूर्वं महाबाहुः स्वकार्यं प्रति भारत ॥ युद्धकाले त्वयास्माकं साह्यं देयमिति प्रभो ॥६-८६-१४॥
so'rjunena samājñapto devaloke tadā nṛpa । prītipūrvaṃ mahābāhuḥ svakāryaṃ prati bhārata ॥ yuddhakāle tvayāsmākaṃ sāhyaṃ deyamiti prabho ॥6-86-14॥

(He, instructed by Arjuna, then in the world of the gods, O king, with affection, the mighty-armed, towards his own task, O descendant of Bharata, at the time of war, assistance by you, our, should be given, thus, O lord.)

बाढमित्येवमुक्त्वा च युद्धकाल उपागतः । कामवर्णजवैरश्वैः संवृतो बहुभिर्नृप ॥६-८६-१५॥
bāḍhamityevamuktvā ca yuddhakāla upāgataḥ । kāmavarṇajavairaśvaiḥ saṃvṛto bahubhirnṛpa ॥6-86-15॥

(Certainly, having spoken thus, and having arrived at the time for battle, the king was surrounded by many horses of desirable color and speed.)
The king, having affirmed and spoken in this manner, arrived at the battlefield, surrounded by many swift and beautifully colored horses.
ते हयाः काञ्चनापीडा नानावर्णा मनोजवाः । उत्पेतुः सहसा राजन्हंसा इव महोदधौ ॥६-८६-१६॥
te hayāḥ kāñcanāpīḍā nānāvarṇā manojavāḥ । utpetuḥ sahasā rājanhaṃsā iva mahodadhau ॥6-86-16॥

ते त्वदीयान्समासाद्य हयसङ्घान्महाजवान् । क्रोडैः क्रोडानभिघ्नन्तो घोणाभिश्च परस्परम् ॥ निपेतुः सहसा राजन्सुवेगाभिहता भुवि ॥६-८६-१७॥

(They, having reached your groups of horses of great speed, striking each other with flanks and snouts, suddenly fell down on the ground, O king, struck by great speed.)
They reached your fast-moving groups of horses and, striking each other with their flanks and snouts, suddenly fell to the ground, O king, overwhelmed by their great speed.
निपतद्भिस्तथा तैश्च हयसङ्घैः परस्परम् । शुश्रुवे दारुणः शब्दः सुपर्णपतने यथा ॥६-८६-१८॥
nipatadbhiḥ tathā taiśca hayasaṅghaiḥ parasparam । śuśruve dāruṇaḥ śabdaḥ suparṇapatane yathā ॥6-86-18॥
[निपतद्भिः (nipatadbhiḥ) - falling; तथा (tathā) - thus; तैः (taiḥ) - by them; च (ca) - and; हय (haya) - horses; सङ्घैः (saṅghaiḥ) - by the groups; परस्परम् (parasparam) - mutually; शुश्रुवे (śuśruve) - was heard; दारुणः (dāruṇaḥ) - terrible; शब्दः (śabdaḥ) - sound; सुपर्ण (suparṇa) - Garuda; पतने (patane) - in the fall; यथा (yathā) - as;]

तथैव च महाराज समेत्यान्योन्यमाहवे । परस्परवधं घोरं चक्रुस्ते हयसादिनः ॥६-८६-१९॥

(In the same way, O great king, having come together in battle, those horsemen performed terrible mutual killing.)

तस्मिंस्तथा वर्तमाने सङ्कुले तुमुले भृशम् । उभयोरपि संशान्ता हयसङ्घाः समन्ततः ॥६-८६-२०॥
tasmiṁstathā vartamāne saṅkule tumule bhṛśam । ubhayorapi saṁśāntā hayasaṅghāḥ samantataḥ ॥6-86-20॥

(In that thus existing confused tumultuous intensely, of both also calmed groups of horses all around.)
In that situation, which was thus intensely confused and tumultuous, the groups of horses on both sides were calmed all around.
प्रक्षीणसायकाः शूरा निहताश्वाः श्रमातुराः । विलयं समनुप्राप्तास्तक्षमाणाः परस्परम् ॥६-८६-२१॥

बाढमित्येवमुक्त्वा तु राक्षसो घोरदर्शनः । प्रययौ सिंहनादेन यत्रार्जुनसुतो युवा ॥६-८६-४८॥

(Illusion is indeed innate to them; their age and form are born of desire. Thus, that demon's limb, cut and cut, grew again.)

(We indeed do not see anyone who protects lives in battle like a demon, in that warrior king.)
